"Travels Across the Four Seas."

I read this when I was little.

Volume Five.

It tells tales of Dragon Bone Gobi.

When Master Wuchen crossed the desert,

at Dragon Claw Bay on the Sixth Bend,

he met a Western Saintess who wore a skull necklace.

Her red-eyed sand fox could sniff out the dead.

- And it could also... - Sleep.

But I'm not sleepy at all.

Do you hear that?

That's a night owl.

Your Highness,

are you afraid of night owls?

I was really scared of them when I was little.

I always felt their hoots

sounded like ghosts weeping.

But I grew out of it.

Now I even find their hoots quite funny.

Are you done reading?

I wanted to keep chatting.

We don't need to sit up to talk.

Your hands are so cold.

Are you cold?

The mountain night air gets everywhere.

It finds every little gap in your clothes.

Back when I lived on Li Mountain,

I often couldn't sleep because of the cold.

Qing Shuang would cuddle me to sleep.

That maid of yours?

Yes.

She liked to get warm by the fire before bed.

Her body was always so warm.

You're warm too, Your Highness.

[True Enlightenment]

This is your mother's grave.

Yes.

I thought she had returned to Li Mountain.

When my parents split up,

my mother was furious.

She became bedridden

and got kicked out of the house.

Luckily, the Temple Master helped us,

so we could stay here for treatment.

Unfortunately,

she didn't make it.

She passed away.

Can you help me up?

Dear Mother-in-law,

your son-in-law, Mo Xiu Yao, pays his respects.

Mother.

I'm still wearing the double-fish jade pendant

you gave me back then.

You said you hoped that someday

I'd find a good husband.

I've found him.

This is my husband.

He treats me very well.

We're soulmates.

My sister-in-law is very gentle.

She treats me well too.

And hey,

I also have a little nephew.

He can be pretty hot-headed,

but he is clever and cute.

This life...

is more than enough for me.

If you know this in the afterlife,

you can rest in peace.

Your mother passed away here.

So how did you get back to Li Mountain?

Qing Shuang went back with me.

They searched us at the foot of the mountain.

They took all our valuables.

They even pulled out my hairpins.

Only the double-fish pendant was left.

And then those soldiers let us go up the mountain.

Are you feeling sorry for me, Your Highness?

You don't need to.

Meeting you, Your Highness,

is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Senior Brother.

What are they doing?

They're all here because of the "Goddess with Downcast Eyes."

The Shang tone stands for farewell,

and the Yu tone for grief.

Yun Song Zi's tune

suits this farewell banquet perfectly.

Indeed.

He sings of parting,

yet he's also singing his own story.

Full of sadness and bitterness.

He's ambitious,

yet his dreams went unfulfilled.

Yun Song Zi is a master of poetry and painting.

Even a guy with his talent

ended up like this.

Of course.

Years ago,

when he was appointed Chuzhou Administrator,

Li Mountain Academy ran into trouble.

He got dragged into it and lost his position.

Was Yun Song Zi a student there?

Yes, but he only stayed for half a month.

You see,

he feasts on meat

and gulps down wine.

But the Academy's food was bland as water.

And they wouldn't let him drink his fill.

He felt

suffocated staying at Li Mountain,

so he grabbed his stuff and fled.

Since he was there for such a short time,

how did he get dragged into it?

While he was at Li Mountain, he wrote several poems

praising the beauty of Li Mountain.

Everyone knew he was from Li Mountain.

So when Li Mountain Academy got into trouble,

he couldn't avoid being affected.

Lady Ye,

can you sing a tune?

I can,

Why so down all of a sudden?

When you were drunk, you sang and danced.

You forced Yun Song Zi to teach you the pipa.

You even broke a few strings.

Wei Zhuang tried to stop you,

but you dragged others into a drinking game.

When you won, you ran around the yard.

When you lost, you fell flat on the floor

and acted all silly.

you wouldn't have left with me.

You've said that way too many times.

I want you to really remember this.

I'm here with you this time.

I haven't been this drunk in ages.

Usually, at the mansion,

I don't dare drink too much.

Was it the snake venom that caused my blindness?

Lady, you fell off the cliff,

and got bitten by a white-banded snake.

That snake's venom is very strong.

It entered through your arm,

got stuck in your meridians, and rose to your head.

That's why your sight is affected.

Will I go blind?

Don't worry, Lady.

It's just temporary.

Once your meridians clear and the leftover venom is gone,

you'll see clearly again.

How long will it take?

Seven to eight days at most.

Two or three if you're lucky.

Is your name You Lan?

Yes.

Thank you, You Lan, for looking after me.

It's my duty, Lady.

The Master told me to come and serve you.

The Master?

Did your Master save me?

Yes. This place is called Songyue Villa.

Who is your Master?

The Master...

is just the Master.

We are not allowed to say his name.

Then can you take me to see him?

I want to thank him myself.

Well...

I can't decide that.

But I can pass it to the steward.

Is this Songyue Villa far from the Capital?

I've never been there.

But the steward said it's not far.

You can get there in half a day.

I see.

You may go now.

Yes.

Excuse me.

Can you help me find a cane?

It would help me walk around the room.

Yes.

I will put a pitcher of water by your bedside in a moment.

So you can reach it easily.

I'll take my leave.

I made this medicine myself.

I added some almonds.

It warms you up and helps digestion.

Just come back.

Let's have a meal together, okay?

- Your Highness. - How did it go?

We've searched the bottom of the cliff.

We only found this.

Is this...

Her Highness's shoe?

Still,

we found no trace of her.

Don't worry too much.

The bottom's thick with rotted leaves.

Even if she fell, the leaves would've cushioned her fall.

There's a good chance she survived.

But

there are poisonous snakes down there. I'm not sure if she got bitten.

Snakes?

There's another strange thing. I can't figure it out.

I found this down there.

I think

there's a sword master down there.

He used a branch as a sword, killed the snake,

and saved Her Highness.

Master Feng reported that

they found the bandits.

Hello?

Is anyone there?

What time is it?

Hello?

How come there's no one here?

Thank you.

Are you from the villa?

Do you know where the Master is?

My surname is Ye.

I fell off the cliff a few days ago.

The Master here saved me.

I'd like to thank him in person.

The maid said she'd tell him,

but she never came back.

No one's come to my room either.

So I came out to look for someone.

But my eyes... I can't see a thing.

Can you show me the way?

Are you...

unable to speak?

Thank you anyway.

Are you that doctor's apprentice?

Or are you a servant here?

If you really can't talk,

could you get someone else for me?

Wait.

Could you help me deliver a message?

I fell off a cliff, and I've been gone for days.

My family must be worried.

Please send word to my husband.

Tell him I'm here, and ask him to come get me.

My husband is Prince Ding, Mo Xiu Yao.

If you find him,

he will surely reward you handsomely.

Listen...

I was only...

I was just trying to save her.

Do you think I'm a fool?

You're the one who pushed her off.

Confess now and save yourself the pain.

Our Master's patience

is way shorter than mine.

Will you talk?

Will you talk? Just talk!

Speak up!

Who are you?

Who sent you?

That woman...

I'm the one asking here!

Is she...

Is she still alive?

You won't talk?

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

You called for me?

He's from Tianyi Pavilion.

Han Ming Xi?

He's Han Ming Yue's little brother.

I've met him once before.

I'm sure.

After the fire at the Eastern Palace,

the Han family, as part of that faction,

got wiped out by Marquis Muyang.

On the road to exile,

only these two brothers survived.

I heard his martial arts aren't that great,

and his personality is totally different from his brother's.

I also heard that lately,

he fought with Han Ming Yue and left.

I didn't expect

that he would come to the Capital.

Then why did he want to kill Li?

Well...

- Come on! - Come on!

- All in! - I'm betting on big!

- Big! - I'm all in on small!

- Have a drink. - One more.

- Cheers! - Come on, bottoms up!

- Come on! - Drink!
