[Ever Night]

[Episode 44]

[Xiling Shrine]

So then, Lin Ling failed.

Lin Ling failed

but we have a strategy

that will defeat Ninq Que.

Long Qing is Hierarch's disciple

yet he was defeated by that weakest Student.

Even his Qihai Xueshan was ruined. So useless.

These insults came from Fu Zi and Tang Empire.

I don't care if Ning Que is Son of Hades.

I'll pin those crimes on him

so everyone knows

what kind of student Fu Zi chose.

Let God's believers

fight against such a godless country.

I understand, yet—

Yet what?

It's just that Ning Que

has quite a lot of support.

Though Yan Se is dead and Fu Zi is traveling,

there's still Tang Emperor and Ning Que's link.

- Tang Emperor won't sit back. - Don't worry about that.

We may provoke Cultivators to fight.

So he can't interfere.

Also, there's Child of Light.

Wei Guangming left Golden Compass to Ning Que's little maid.

Her power is still unknown to us.

As it's Wei Guangming's choice,

I believe she has the purest

power of God.

I'm worried she'll use Light's power

to protect Ning Que.

As Guangming's successor,

she can't roam the world.

I think the Priests will send someone to get her.

Then who should go?

Grand Priest Tianyu usually sits out of business.

But Xiling has charge of world affairs.

How can we ignore the world?

I think Grand Priest Tianyu

is the best choice.

Wang Jinglue wants me to torture that maid.

Does he want my life?

Then, Lord, what do we do?

The Army is involved.

General Xu Shi got a tip-off on returning to the capital.

Someone wants to expose Mister 13's doings

so they won't let go of his little maid.

What 'hiding a criminal treasonously'?

That's crap!

She minds the shop.

If she's so capable,

her Master won't hide it.

You mean someone is stirring up trouble.

Unluckily, a Xiling criminal

was sheltered by the maid.

That complicates matters.

But don't worry.

I went to the Palace and informed His Majesty.

So His Majesty wants to...

'Remain silent and observe'.

His Majesty would like to know who is against Mister 13.

But I won't touch this case again.

- Tie Ying. - Mm.

- Get me a basin of iced water. - Huh?

Iced water?

What did you say? Repeat it.

Sir, my Lord became ill.

His head hurts and he's can't eat. I'm afraid...

Since he can't walk, I'll have him carried here.

Men!

Here!

You can't. You can't, Sir Wang.

Imperial doctors can't help.

They told him to rest in bed and not move.

If he's really faking it,

neither Imperial doctors

nor Xiling Divine Pills

can save him.

What did you say?

When will he conduct the interrogation with me?

My Lord said,

as it's a military inquiry about the maid,

you can decide on your own.

That old fox fears the responsibility and lets me do it.

Tang law doesn't let the army directly interrogate.

My master said Lord Wang is only privately asking.

If it's not direct interrogation, it's fine.

Your lord's at death's door. Leave it at that.

These conditions aren't good.

I'm Wang Jinglue. I work for the army.

Let me ask.

You know that old man you sheltered recently.

Know who he is?

He's Wei Guangming, a wanted Xiling criminal.

And you lived with him in Old Brush Shoppe so long.

You...

You're just a little maid.

Don't expect your Young Master of Academy status

to speak up for you.

Of course, I don't want to be hard on you.

Just tell me your relationship with him.

- You really want to know about Young Master? - Yes.

I can't tell you.

Why?

Because Young Master always told me

not to talk to strangers.

Young Miss.

There are questions you must answer.

It's you?

I came on my Master's orders

to ask her urgent questions.

I wonder what Preceptor wants to ask.

Expert Wang, please leave us.

Though this is an army cell,

Lord Wang must know that

my Master is Tang State Preceptor.

Tang State Preceptor?

It's just soundproofing. It won't hurt you.

Before Senior Yan Se and Grand Priest of Light died,

only you were with them at the time.

I want to ask,

did my Senior Uncle leave anything?

That horse carriage

was left by Master Yan Se to Young Master.

Anything else?

Even if there was something,

Master Yan Se would leave it to Young Master.

Why's it your business?

Something is too important.

It relates to Tang's safety.

Even God's whole world.

Is this what you seek?

You...

I'm sorry. I was rude just now.

Please forgive me.

I'm Sang Sang, just a maid.

You needn't be so polite.

This item is what my Master gave me.

I won't give it to you.

After all, it's gold.

Miss, you misunderstood. That's not what I seek.

Then...?

Did my Senior Uncle leave anything else?

Such as...a Dao sword.

Such as...a Pivot.

Sorry to trouble you.

Hierarch, Yan Se is dead.

Tang's Astounding God heir

must be his Student.

If Ning Que gets its Eye Pivot,

he'll get the Array's protection.

Then he'd be harder to kill.

Luckily he isn't back.

I guess he doesn't have the Pivot yet.

So we must get the Pivot before he does.

The Array Eye Pivot is the key to destroy Tang.

I got He Mingchi to look for it.

Mingchi is now Third Prince's Tutor.

Ambitious.

Perhaps you want to be next Tang State Preceptor?

Lord Wang, best not forget

whose little maid she is.

I warn you to treat young Miss courteously.

Do nothing out of line.

What's more, no torture.

Your attitude changed.

Entering, you looked like you would grill her.

Leaving, you look like a loyal servant.

You and I serve Light.

We must respect Light.

So interrogating the maid

offends the Academy?

So the Academy not influencing politics

is an empty saying?

Under law, the army can't arrest her.

Under law, South Gate can't interfere in politics.

We'll see.

One day, you'll be able to experience...a miracle.

Last night's iced water worked well.

But you avoided offending Mister 13

yet offended General Xu Shi.

How's that good?

I mustn't offend anybody. Only this way

protects my life first.

Do you have any good ideas?

Heaven's Will.

Sit here.

Don't fret. Sit down.

Hit me.

This...this...I can't, Lord.

Hurry, hit me. If I'm injured,

I can request leave to go home. Hurry, hit me.

Alright.

Here goes.

Hit me.

Father.

When Ning Que left, I promised him

I'd take good care of Sang Sang.

I beg you to order the army to release Sang Sang.

There must be a misunderstanding.

I just received Xiling's message.

They'll take Ning Que's little maid, Sang Sang, to Peach Mountain.

That little maid will become Grandmaster of Light.

I heard that she's Wei Guangming's successor.

Then...then Ning Que must agree to it.

Do you know Ning Que well?

He and I are just acquaintances.

As princess of Tang,

my priority is the nation.

It's a pity

you're only acquaintances.

Forget it.

On 15th of this month,

the Empress will host a feast for Officials' families.

You should come.

Then, I'll bring Hunyuan.

What for? No need. Just bring Xiao Man.

Yes.

You think, due to Young Master being Mister 13,

I won't dare to torture you?

You think I don't truly dare?!

Sang Sang, sorry I'm late.

Wang Jinglue. Magistrate Yangyu went home sick.

Must you jail a little miss?

You like her?

Who are you?

Transpassing in an army cell.

Sang Sang, let's go. 2nd Senior-Bro said to go home.

This is an army prison, not a restaurant.

Think you can just leave?

Almighty Finger.

Academy Mister 12.

Now you recognise me.

Invincible under Knowing Destiny

is still below Knowing Destiny.

You entered Knowing Destiny at such a young age.

Smart.

The Academy can't interfere in politics.

You want to take the prisoner away?

So what?

If you take her away, you must leave an explanation.

Look at you. Why should I explain to you?

Then how will I explain?

Why should I care?

You did this?

- I only knocked them out. - Ooh.

Let's go.

Hierarch. Wei Guangming is dead.

Before he died, he found his successor of Light.

Xiling has sent Tang a message.

Guangming's heir must come to Xiling.

I'm afraid Tang Empire won't agree easily.

It's vital to Xiling.

Please decide.

If so, I appoint you, Revelation Grand Priest,

to go to Tang capital.

Yes, Hierarch.

Mister 12 barged in. I couldn't keep the little maid.

You'll cough blood for two weeks.

I witnessed Almighty Finger.

It's worth a year of coughing.

But there's one thing I don't understand.

Why'd Mister 12 step in?

Perhaps the Academy will interfere in politics?

This time,

I'd like to see the Academy's response.

All the Court Officials,

and even some of the nobles,

feel the same.

There's a secular world and a spiritual world.

Correct, and the secular world

is controlled by the spiritual.

For example, Yue Lun King must be annointed by

White Tower Master on coronation day.

Also, Yan King's ascension

is approved by Xiling.

So, Cultivators are

the world's true masters.

If the Academy gets involved like Xiling, who can stop them?

The Academy's apolitical stance

is Fu Zi's rule.

I find this unexpected.

As a Tang,

I've never doubted Fu Zi.

But I say to you,

the greatest man must get old and die someday.

Once Fu Zi leaves this world,

Xiling will seize the chance to take action.

Therefore, we must be alert.

I understand.

You should rest.

Thanks, General.

Go!

In the Wildland, you got badly injured.

You dropped from Knowing Destiny to See-through.

Yes.

Whoever enters this Hall

must kneel to the Jade Throne

to show respect.

You think you're still the proud Ye Hongyu?

No.

Before, you didn't kneel

due to your power.

But now, you must kneel

and be more prudent and respectful.

I did nothing wrong.

Why should I kneel?

In order to find the lost Bright Book of Heaven,

how much effort has Xiling made?

Hierarch and I trusted you with this

but you return empty handed.

Shouldn't you take responsibility?

Long Qing was crippled in the Wildland.

He is Hierarch's Student, and Justice Vice-Chief.

You didn't avenge him, but let Mister 13 go.

Yet you dare to come back?

First. I entered Demon Mountain Gate

and didn't find Bright Book, due to Grand Priest's misinformation.

Second. Long Qing was crippled

because he broke the bet.

He deserved what he got.

In my opinion, Ning Que did nothing wrong.

Why would I kill him?

You mean it's not your concern.

You still disrespect Hierarch and me

due to your brother's and Abbot's support?

In Demon Sect Mountain Gate, what did you see?

Lian Sheng.

You saw Lian Sheng? Did Lian Sheng hurt you?

Lian Sheng was demonic.

I could only use Xiling's secret technique to degrade my Realm

to survive.

So your Realm keeps dropping?

You can't even stay in See-through Realm.

Perhaps this lifetime,

you can't advance again to Knowing Destiny.

You're not powerful Dao Addict.

You're disabled.

If I spread this news,

you'll lose all respect in

powerful Justice Hall and even be despised.

Your position will be reassigned.

Since you're still in Justice Hall,

do what you're capable of.

Make me copies of these books.

Women should do what women can.

Write nice copies.

I will be back.

She looks like an egg with a hard shell

but her outer shell can be broken to expose her softness.

Talk less pervertedly.

Did the Lan-ke people depart?

They have left.

Ghost Festival is soon. Master Qishan's disciple, Guanhai,

headed to Tang capital with an invitation.

Master Qishan isn't sociable.

His disciple, Guanhai, has a very gentle personality.

We just let him know

Ning Que ruined Long Qing's Qihai Xueshan.

He'll want a duel.

It's best they lead.

After all, they're Master Qishan's disciples.

They're quite capable.

Lan-ke Temple can't sit out this time.

It's a given.

Yes.

Light won't die.

Heaven is everlasting.

Light won't die.

God is everlasting.

Altar of Light is empty.

Our Heavenly Daoism has had millenia of glory.

But bad omens appeared.

Do humans destroy Dao

or Dao destroys humans?

General Xu Shi is back in the army.

I know.

Xu Shi has been loyal to Tang.

All these years, he had many achievements

but he's set in his ways.

You needn't explain.

Maybe in old General's eyes,

I shouldn't be Empress.

Ignore them. You're forever my Empress.

I think my health

is getting worse.

To think ahead,

- I plan to... - Your Majesty.

Our son is young.

I hope you take medicine

and get healthy.

Above all,

I don't want our family

to fall apart.

There'll be a day

I'll cast mother and son out of the Palace.

Princess. We just got news-

Sang Sang was taken away by Mister 12.

If Academy people break Fu Zi's 'no politics' rule,

what should we do?

That woman has Xia Hou's and Scholar Zeng Jing's support.

Even State Preceptor Li Qingshan is close to her.

On our side, though General Xu Shi is back in the capital,

we don't know if he'll help.

Most important is the Academy's attitude.

How can we find out which side the Academy is on?

Ning Que is my friend. I trust him.

What power has Ning Que over the Academy?

Don't doubt my judgment.

Even if Ning Que is unwilling, I believe Sang Sang will support me.

Sang Sang is a maid.

No. She's not just a maid.

She's Mister 13's life

and Xiling's important woman.

Shanyue. Invite her on the 15th

to attend the feast with me.

Ok. Come.

Greetings, Empress (Muhou/Imperial Mother).

Greetings, Empress.

Greetings, Empress.

Greetings, Empress.

Are we late?

Not at all.

Greetings, Princess.

Ladies, please rise.

Greetings, Empress Mother.

Greetings, Empress.

Your coming today makes me happy.

This is?

This is Miss Sang Sang.

You're Mister 13's maid, Sang Sang?

Respects, Empress.

Obedient and adorable.

Sit.

Thanks, Empress.

All sit.

Thanks, Empress.

What's her background? Princess and Empress esteem her.

She's the little maid of Academy Mister 13.

I see.

Madam, are there flowers on Sang Sang's face to view?

I married far from here

but I'd met everyone here.

This Madam is...?

She's Zeng Jing's wife.

She seldom leaves home or socialises.

Oh. So it's the Zeng concubine.

Yu'er. She's now Madam Zeng.

I remember now.

My poor aunt was sent back to Qinghe County

in disgrace.

So the Zeng concubine

became the wife.

What a great wife,

shaming my Grandpa Cui's family until today.

The one who shamed Cui Family wasn't me.

It was Madam Cui herself.

My lord and I lost our only child because of her.

Didn't we suffer enough?

Today is Lantern Festival. His Majesty sent us pastries.

Come, let's drink to thank His Majesty.

Thanks, Empress.

Miss Sang Sang.

Miss Sang Sang, how old are you?

I...was probably born in Tianqi Year-1.

Almost the same age.

Don't be afraid. Sit with me.

I miss my daughter too much, and lost my manners.

And her? Where is she?

She...died.

My daughter was also born in Tianqi Year-1.

If she was alive, she'd be your age.

Madam, don't be sad.

My Young Master says everyone has a fate.

Maybe she's in a better place.

Thank you for kind words. You're an adorable child.

So you're here.

- I've been looking for you. - Princess.

Let's go to my Residence.

Wait.

Madam Zeng, what else do you want?

I would like to...

escort Miss Sang Sang home. Please allow me.

Can I?
