[Ever Night]

[Episode 29]

[Tang Academy]

Ning Que, what are you doing again?

This is improper!

(Ward against fire, thieves, and Ning Que)

Sang Sang, I heard the Emperor met the Empress here.

A pair of ideal lovers; gently fluttering breeze.

How many died of envy.

Why do I see your envy?

What's for me to envy?

I recall telling you I don't understand love.

But those who mess with love, especially youth, are idiots.

But there are naturally things between men and women.

Right. Things between them are just things.

That can't be seen as love.

What's between men and women?

Sang Sang, look. People go here for such things.

(Red Sleeves Club)

You really know everything.

Greetings, Mister 13.

Sister Dewdrop, what's this?

It's Jian Dajia's orders.

Now your status changed, the girls must respect you.

Jian Dajia said to treat Mister 13 with good etiquette–

no getting handsy.

That's right.

Thanks, Sister Dewdrop. Thanks, Sisters.

Mister 13, Jian Daijia awaits you. Follow me.

Go quickly.

I entered Second Floor. Why's it not enough?

- How old are you? - I'm already 18.

18, so what?

Without my word, no city brothels will serve you.

Why?

2nd Floor is what sort of place?

Since you have the fortune to enter it, put all your efforts into Cultivation.

No need for love nests. Don't come again.

I think Fu Zi won't care.

For this, even Fu Zi needs my approval.

Aunt Jian, you're familiar with the Academy?

Jun Mo is still old-fashioned.

Jun Mo?

That's your 2nd-Senior Bro. You don't even know his name.

How'd I dare use his name? Don't you know he's proud?

Proud?

From the start, Little Momo enjoyed acting proudly.

L-Little Momo?

Little Momo...

My old friend was fond of that kid.

He kept him by his side often and taught him Haoran Sword.

That precocious kid was cute.

We older Sisters teased him and called him Little Momo.

My Little Sister would make him blush.

Thinking of it, on Little Sister's death,

that kid cried the most.

Your old friend is...

According to his status, he's your Martial Junior Uncle.

Martial Junior Uncle, Ke Haoran?

You came too late.

He died 20 years ago.

How did Junior Uncle die?

Don't ask too much.

I think Fu Zi won't want you to know of that past.

Cultivate well. Your path ahead is still long.

[Old Brush Shoppe]

What was Junior Uncle Ke Haoran like?

Young Master.

What's wrong?

I'm so cold.

Come here, come here. Hurry.

Today was so hot. How are your feet cold?

Are you fiery hot but I feel icy?

Yeah, still hot.

Then I'll cool you.

Okay.

Cooling off?

Young Master, why's your face so hot?

Sang Sang.

Sang Sang.

How old are you?

Even you don't know. How'd I know?

Figure it out. From finding me till now, how many years?

Are you no longer cold?

Much better.

And you? Still hot?

No. Sang Sang, sleep under my blankets.

- I'll use your icy bed. Here, sleep. - Okay.

Come sleep next to me.

Sleep by yourself.

Quickly, quickly.

So warm.

Dao Scripture has Seven Books.

They're Xiling treasures

for Shrine knowledge and protection.

But among the Seven Books, one is most important.

Bright Book's whereabouts is unknown.

Now Revelation High Priest has received divine guidance–

Bright Book is in the Wildland

and it could be in Demon Sect Mountain Gate.

Demon Sect Mountain Gate?

Things we lost must be found again.

Justice's Long Qing.

I'm here.

Regarding Tang, you have the most experience.

That faithless place won't see the Light.

So don't blame yourself for Academy events.

I think you'll always be Peach Mountain's Son of Light.

Thank you, Hierarch.

For this matter, are you willing to go to the Wildland?

I am.

Okay.

This Book matter

isn't as simple as entering the Academy.

Besides, someone didn't enter.

I went into deep Wildland.

Who better knows the Wildland or Demon Gate site?

Yes, yes, yes, indeed you know.

But don't forget, Xiling needs a real fighter in the Wildland,

- not just a guide. - In fighting skills,

I don't fall short of you.

Then try right now.

Go ahead.

Enough!

This is no place to fight.

Regarding the Wildland, it's settled.

Prepare well. You're dismissed.

- Yes. - Yes.

Long Qing.

Greetings, Chief. I was about to find you.

When I go to the Wildland, I'll leave you

Justice Hall matters.

Don't be concerned about Justice Hall.

Mind your own tasks.

Oh. Do you know Flower Addict leaves today.

Leaves Peach Mountain?

Miss Flower Addict, why leave Peach Mountain?

How about I see you off?

Please stay far away from me.

What if I insist on getting closer to you?

Scoundrel!

Miss, I'm upper See-through.

You should understand.

Move back.

I said before, you're no longer my match.

You just won't believe me.

Wasting my time.

You found your Life Symbol!

You knew too late.

What?

How'd you get so strong so fast?

[Red Sleeves Club]

Sang Sang, you're unhappy somehow?

What happened?

Last night, Young Master suddenly asked my age.

And then?

Then...nothing then.

I just feel Young Master's acting weird.

Weird.

Does your Young Master have bad intent towards you?

Don't malign him.

Okay, okay, okay. I won't say it.

So how old might I be?

The day before, I found old books on war runes.

You're focused on

carving runes on weapons, so they'll come in handy.

So I called you here.

Take these and study them.

Thanks, 2nd-Senior Bro.

2nd-Senior Bro.

Did anyone call you Little Momo?

You met with Jian Daijia?

Jian Daijia back then was close to Junior Uncle.

She counts as one of our elders.

Junior Uncle was what kind of person?

Junior Uncle was an amazing person.

Compared with Fu Zi?

They were amazing in different ways.

~gathering heartfelt wishes brightly~

~time and again, frost and rain~

Your Majesty.

It's my fault.

This isn't your fault. It's my life.

~I look at you silently~

In my heart, two women are most important.

First is you.

Second is Yu'er.

If one day, I really must leave,

promise me you'll forgive Yu'er's wrongs.

And there's Xia Hou.

I know, when he commanded Northern Garrison

and you sent him to defend Tuyang City,

it was a precaution against him.

That's right.

You blame me?

In the past, I harmed you with poisoned wine.

Have you ever blamed me?

I did that willingly.

Otherwise, you couldn't hide your Demonism, and stay by me.

I'll always be beside you.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, Xiling sent a letter from Hierarch.

Bring it here.

To: Tang Emperor. Xiling Cavalry is advancing on Demon Sect remnants moving South. Hope Tang troops will join us to destroy them. From: Hierarch

Xiling advised Demonists are coming south.

A dispute ensued. What do Officials think?

Your Majesty, Dao South Gate received Hierarch's order.

Xiling called us to wipe out Demon Sect remnants.

South Jin, Yue Lun, and various States sent troops.

I request you to send troops and ally with Xiling to destroy

Demon Sect remants.

Is there a need to send troops?

Your Majesty, Demonist Cultivation defies God.

They kill our citizens while heading South.

Hierarch already despatched Justice Hall and Xiling guards.

If you don't send troops,

I fear Xiling may misunderstand.

Heaven Dao and Demon Sect's grudge

is a conflict of doctrines.

As Tang respects freedom of belief, we can't get involved.

- Your Majesty. - Preceptor.

Though you lead Dao South Gate,

you're Tang State Preceptor.

You're a Tang person.

Your Majesty is right

but Khan Wu Zhu is covetous.

Huangren owned the grasslands seized by Golden Horde.

If Wu Zhu loses to Huangren, will he breach our Tang border?

We must send troops.

Preceptor, who did Yue Lun and South Jin dispatch?

Yue Lun sent White Tower High Priestess, Qu Ni.

South Jin sent Sword Pavilion disciples.

Xiling Shrine Justice Hall and Revelation Hall

sent their men.

So everyone is showing off their strength

and conveniently training newbies.

Then I should get involved.

You mean–

Isn't it time for Academy students

to train at the frontier?

Your Majesty.

Academy training in late autumn

is to be with General Xu Shi in Southern Garrison.

Since it's already summer's end,

it's fine to move it forward.

Your Majesty aims

to send Academy students to North Yan Wildland.

Correct.

Since youth of many States will present themselves,

why can't Tang youth go?

All these years, I've said

our youth lack in numbers; our empire declines.

I want the world to see Tang's new generation of gifted youth.

This batch is too young,

with no combat experience.

Isn't there Mister 13?

Your Majesty, Ning...

Mister 13 entered Second Floor.

Tradition dictates he needn't train at the frontier.

Though he entered Second Floor,

he's yet to officially become Fu Zi's Disciple.

He's still a Front Courtyard student.

Send him to lead the group.

You can't.

Aside from appearing excessive in sending a Second Floor student,

Ning Que just started Dao of Symbols, with average Cultivation.

It can be said he's the weakest student in all Second Floor history.

In this perplexing state, how can he face other nations' talents?

If Ning Que has a mishap in the Wildland,

on Fu Zi's return, how do we explain?

Jade not carved isn't useful.

He has an army background with varied battle experience.

We won't help Xiling destroy Demonism or Huangren.

Sending Mister 13 to lead Academy students

pays Xiling great respect.

Alright, I've decided.

I order Ning Que to lead Academy students.

Set out in a few days.

- As you command. - As you command.

Dismissed.

Court adjourned.

Hierarch.

Heaven Book in the Wildland is important.

Is it right to leave this to Long Qing?

Of course, not him alone.

But if you want his wholehearted service,

give him what he wants.

If he wants, give him glory.

If he wants to prove himself,

I'll give him a chance.

Send Ye Hongyu as well.

Yes, Hierarch. I'll inform her now.

Don't disclose this.

Let her feel Long Qing's in the Light, she's in the dark.

Our finding Heaven Book depends on her actions.

I see. Mutual resentment

is preferable to their amity.

Correct.

If the boat overturns, they won't drown together.

- Go. - Yes, Hierarch.

- Ning Que in the Wildland? - Yes. His Majesty said

Ning Que can lead student training.

The Academy got his Decree.

I thought Father's favouring Ning Que benefited us siblings.

He hasn't agreed to aid His Majesty.

We can't tell if he'll benefit you.

I see.

How's Hunyuan?

Don't fret. He's doing well in army camp.

I'll return to Army Ministry.

Wildland training.

Is he really just following Hierarch's orders?

If we're not fighting Demon Sect, nor killing Huangren,

what's the real motive for training?

I worry His Majesty's decision will be a big mistake.

You distrust my Student, Ning Que,

- or me? - Senior.

We two know Xiling's expedition,

besides killing Demonists, has another motive.

- What motive? - You know. Heaven Book!

Don't forget, Ning Que is your Student but still in the Academy.

You fear he may get Heaven Book and give it to Fu Zi?

You like Ning Que; His Majesty does too.

- But– - But now he studies Talismans,

these matters will entangle him.

He should use his own judgment.

This is about Heaven Book.

It can shock Heaven and Earth.

If Bright Book lost for 500 years

does turn up in the Wildland,

many will be watching. It won't fall on Ning Que.

If Heaven Book doesn't turn up in the Wildland,

it's unrelated to my Student.

Junior, don't overworry.

I have my own plans.

Recently, the Wildland situation is unstable.

Heaven Book appeared there.

Go to the Wildland.

Didn't you send Long Qing? Why me as well?

Hierarch and I trust you.

I wish to meditate on the mountain. Please choose another.

Ye Hongyu.

Xiling acknowledges your talent and focus.

It's why, when you provoked Chen Pipi to leave the Abbey for your brother,

Hierarch and I saved you.

But know

talent and perseverance are no excuse for pride.

Long Qing lost badly at the Academy to a Doubtless Realm youth.

It affected him.

It's just a pity, under Hierarch's and my care,

you've no chance to fail.

So Hierarch and Grand Priest want me to go to the Wildland to fail?

Fu Zi once said, "seek virtue to attain it".

Also, "seek failure to not fail."

So your seeking failure

is to hope in future you truly won't fail.

Enough. It's settled.

Ye Hongyu relies on her older bro. She's too uppity.

We're sending her to the Wildland

- to see how big the outside world is. - Yes.

She's called Dao Addict. She's too obsessed.

Cultivation should have benefits. She won't refuse.

Watch her. If you find Heaven Book in the Wildland,

you know what to do.

Thanks, 4th Senior. Thanks, 6th Senior.

You made a weapon suited to me.

These old swords with runes aren't really worthy of our work.

Little Bro, come here. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Here.

Hold it. This bow is powerful.

Save it for critical moments.

Each arrow is single-use.

- Why? - Here.

The bow has an adamant piece. 7th-Senior Sis and I engraved a charm.

When you shoot an arrow,

the shaft and adamant create friction to activate the charm.

The released arrow, aided by the charm, has immense power.

The farther, the stronger.

So each arrow can only be used once.

Your teamwork created this.

Please give it a name.

The bow and arrow material is from raw silver you refined.

How about Silver Arrow?

Silver Arrow is good. Call it Silver Arrow!

You're very talented and knowledgeable. It's Silver Arrow.

No, no, no.

I put in effort.

That name's too cheap.

No, won't do.

Little Bro, why don't you find a name?

This bow borrows Primordial Qi.

There are 13 arrows.

My Rear Mountain rank is Thirteen.

How about *Yuan-13 Arrows? (*coin; origin)/i>

- It's a good name. - Good.

Yuan-13 Arrows. Good name.

- 2nd-Senior Bro. - Second S...

What's wrong with my arm?

You're just in Doubtless level.

Dao of Symbols exceeds your level. So using Yuan-13 Arrows

is overdoing it.

Little Bro, take care of yourself.

Soon you'll go to the Wildland to train.

A good body will be your asset.

To the Wildland? To train?

Sure. The Decree came today.

Tang Emperor chose you to lead Academy students in Wildland training.

Go to the Wildland. I-I'm leading?

So you're back. That's great.

I behaved badly with you. My apologies.

After returning from the Wildland, I want to go to Yue Lun with you.

Yue Lun has beautiful scenery. You'll enjoy seeing it.

I want to see your Royal Father.

See my Father?

Father is busy ruling, but still,

he'll be delighted to meet Xiling's Son of Light.

~light is in my dark eyes; rope-twisting wind wraps me~

I wish to tell him I want to marry you.

~river-deep desires feed my soul~

~take me~

Xiling's most beautiful flower now belongs to you.

~I don't have anyone to defeat~

~peach blossoms open~

~my heart hasn't left~

Yue Lun's most beautiful flower

belongs to Prince Long Qing.

~facing life and death~

~I kept fighting~

~just let me~

~live with no regrets~

~let me live for myself~

~let darkness be witness~

From now, you're the betrothed of Yan Prince, Long Qing.

~life has ups and downs~

We'll meet in the Wildland.

You go too?

Yes.

~no-one's in my heart~

I heard Mister 13 is also going.

~let me die in a place of danger~

Everything I lost before, I must get back this time.

Wait for me.

Sang Sang.

Young Master, you're back. I'll get you food.

Wait. Sit. I've something to tell you.

What is it?

- I must go somewhere far. - How far?

- Farther than Wei City. - How long?

I can't say.

Then it'd be an important Academy mission

or an Imperial secret task.

How'd you know?

We'll take warm clothes.

How'd you know it'll be cold.

We'll take meat I smoked today.

- You know everything? - We'll also...

Sang Sang. This time I must go alone.

[Ever Night]

~Hey, I can only say sorry~

~You, who've forgotten time, look a bit lost~

~You seem faraway, in front of me~

~Time blinks by~

~Take it easy~

~Life is still the same~

~Hey, let me change the ending~

~Yet I can cover it up only a short while~

~Don't obsess or say sorry~

~Loser just treats winner~

~Better not meet rather than cry on parting~

~Night is long and dark~

~Don't leave regrets~

~I've seen right, wrong, gratitude, grudges, words, acts~

~I risk danger, desperate for you~

~Umbrella in old Chang'an~

~Night nears; talismans burn~

~Fight till all is gone in chaos and darkness~

~See us blaze through darkness, changing Heaven and Earth~

~Spur the horses forward~

~Geese fly south before snow~

~Get drunk at a warm coast~

~Under slashes of the sword, we love each other still~

~Under slashes of the sword, we love each other still~
