[Ever Night]

[Episode 11]

Greetings, Instructor.

This is Old Library

with books from worldwide.

Fu Zi says books are the containers of ideas.

He also says ideas, once written on paper,

are no longer new but old knowledge.

That's why it's 'Old' Library.

Please follow me.

I'll explain rules.

Counting me, there are one Scholar and four staff.

You can read anytime

but remember 3 things.

First, Old Library has the richest collection,

because 100-Squad got books worldwide.

Generations of alumni also laboured to purchase many books.

So wash your hands before reading.

Don't spit on books in discussions.

Don't obsess over care, but don't trash them.

Second, we can't fetch books.

So if you can't find a book you want,

ask yourself if the book you seek is worth reading.

Dajun, I like her a lot.

- Her hair is so long. - Cute.

Last, above all, we forbid borrowing or copying books.

Don't look for me to try to persuade me to do elsewise.

Rules are rules.

Instructor Cao must've taught you that.

Don't question rules.

As for meaning behind a rule, try to make sense of it.

But don't expect me to explain.

I'm Instructor Yu Lian.

We'll see each other often.

Second floor mysterious books can't be memorised.

Beware of human limitations.

If you lack a Cultivation gift, forcing this has bad results.

Just do what you can.

'Analysis of Qi Sea & Snow Mount'

This is one I've seen before.

Hurry.

Hurry! Stop reading.

Staff.

Wait for me.

Hurry.

Instructor Yu, someone fainted upstairs.

[Tang Academy]

['Analysis of Qi Sea & Snow Mount']

What weird place is that?

You get sick from reading?

Tang Academy is the best but worst place.

What...what happened to me?

Why can't I remember anything?

I tried so hard but put myself in a difficult position.

That book.

I can't remember a word from it.

Maybe your method is wrong?

When you first found me,

I caught a chill and doctors had no answer.

Then wine worked.

Yeah. Cultivation is hard

and my body isn't ready for 'Qi Sea & Snow Mount'.

A mountain stops me.

I feel unwell.

For the mountain, detour.

What if the mountain is grand?

We can't go round.

So slice the mountain in half!

Are you off again?

I...I just wanna...

Young Master, do you need a doctor?

[Old Library]

[Tang Academy]

[Old Library]

If you keep reading, you'll die.

Second floor books were written using Psychic Power with ink.

You must enter See-through Realm to read them.

You don't qualify for Cultivation.

Forcing yourself by willpower is damaging you.

You should go out soon.

I ask, Instructor Yu— are you at See-through level?

On Academy admission, did you want to stay in Old Library?

You can't imagine what you don't experience.

Maybe there are other ways I can begin Cultivation.

I want to try.

You can write notes, though not borrow or copy books.

Notes might be helpful.

Isn't copying not allowed?

Rules are made by humans.

Thanks, Teacher Yu.

In these 17 days, I've tried so hard.

But I can't get anything.

I only watch knowledge flying over my head.

Once I used to dream of things while in a waking state

but they were never there.

If the words on the paper were nothing, why can I see them?

If they were real, why can't I remember them?

Is Cultivation real or is it nothing?

Going up another level, then another one.

All my worries from before are gone.

I was just Blue Lake Woodcutter.

Why poeticise cold weather.

It isn't Autumn yet.

If I can't Cultivate, how can I avenge my family and Zhou'er's village.

If I can't Cultivate, those villains go unpunished.

I can't live peacefully.

[Analysis of Qi Sea & Snow Mount]

Doctor, what's wrong with Sixth Prince.

Sixth Prince was always weak. His pulse is fluctuating.

He has internal ghostly heat.

Nonsense.

Your Majesty, be calm.

Maybe because...because..

Because what?

Because Princess...

Her energy opposes his.

Nonsense. Get out.

Go on.

Revelation Hall

says, in black night, a female brings chaos.

Impudence. You're rumour-mongering.

Be calm.

I know my fault.

- Eunuch Lin. - I'm here.

I order no more such rumours in the Palace.

If anyone offends, it's death penalty.

I obey.

Go.

What's this?

6th Prince is ill due to me.

He's the child of a Demonist Saintess and a foreigner.

It must be conflicting energy.

Don't believe those rumours.

Yu'er's blameless.

Sixth Prince will be protected.

He'll grow up just fine.

Don't know who designed this entrance.

Can't it be a bit wider?

Have they thought of students who are bigger.

2nd-Senior Bro is weird.

He bet me about this 'Analysis'.

I'm no special genius.

How I can remember my childhood reading?

Brazen.

Who dared to take notes in Old Library?

If I'd done it and 2nd-Senior Bro found out,

he'd kick me into the lake to feed his goose.

'But I can't get anything.'

Nice handwriting.

'Going up another level, then another one.'

'All my worries from before are gone.'

'I was just Blue Lake Woodcutter'.

'Why poeticise cold weather'.

'It's not Autumn yet.'

Woodcutter?

A woodcutter entered?

Ridiculous.

'Going up another level, then another one.'

'All my worries from before'.

Why so many worries?

It seems only genius me can resolve your worries.

Chen Pipi, Chen Pipi...

Why be a stickybeak?

Being tubby isn't just pitiful.

Being tubby with a good heart is the most pitiful.

Never mind.

Hello, Stranger.

I'm about to die.

I can't do this anymore.

I'm a goner.

Young Master.

A dying person won't yatter on.

Drink this ginger soup.

Young Master.

Have you considered, if you really can't Cultivate,

what you will do.

God shouldn't be that evil.

You're a good person.

God will surely fulfil your wish.

I'm no good.

You are.

I'm no good.

Young Master is really good.

Young Master is good?

You're really a good person.

Without you,

I'd be dead.

In fact, you have a soft heart.

And you can't stand evil ones.

You hate lying.

You hate bullies.

You always seek justice for bullied people.

Many put you down

but you use strength

with even greater force to show them you're not weak.

So you're working hard to become a Cultivator.

You suffer yet persevere.

But if you die this way...

what would become of me?

If you die, I don't want to live.

Sang Sang.

You're so noisy.

How am I supposed to sleep?

How often must I tell you? You forgot?

We struggled so very, very hard to survive.

So we can't die so easily.

We must do our best to live.

Look at you, crying at night.

Go to sleep now.

Sang Sang.

Even if everyone on earth dies...

this hoodlum won't die.

That's what Old Ma said.

Young Master, General Ma is right.

Wait. He's whom I'm waiting for.

Zi Mo, how's your investigation?

Your Highness, these past days, Luo Kedi replaced troops on south Peach Mountain.

The south side?

Elder Lin Feng of Light Hall.

Correct.

In 3 days, Elder Ling will invoke blessings for South Jin King.

He'll pray alone all night in the Temple.

Your Highness!

Your Highness, Luo Kedi's people aren't simple.

They're Masters who'll enter See-through soon.

Each is lethal.

With just you two's strength, you mightn't stop Luo Kedi.

Possibly...you'll die on Peach Mountain.

We can't avoid things we might not end.

However risky the path, I won't think of turning back.

Good wins.

With Light in our heart, don't fear death.

Young Master!

You're awake...

Sang Sang.

You watched over me all night?

No big deal.

I'll do anything to get you better.

I studied "Treatise on Response of Dao" for years but understood nothing.

I studied 'Qihai Xueshan'; I can't recall one word.

Young Master. What's 'Qihai Xueshan'?

The breath between Heaven and Earth is nascent energy or 'Qi'.

'Qi' is hidden in the body as if buried in sea or snow.

Cultivators call it 'Qi Sea & Snow Mount'– Qihai Xueshan.

Young Master! Are you alright?

Young Master!

Stand up.

Your Xueshan Qihai is empty.

Lad, you can never Cultivate.

Your fever's gone but it fried your brain!

Sang Sang.

Thanks for your care all night.

It's so good to have you.

You fooled me?

[Tang Academy]

- I say, enough. Time to stop. - Yes, don't go up.

You, a lowly soldier, contend with Master Xie.

That's all you're worth.

You all misunderstood. I go up to study.

It's nothing to do with competitiveness.

I think Master Xie is the same.

Xie Chengyun is a Nanjing noble.

with only one aim–

to get to Second Floor to be Fu Zi's disciple.

Where'd you spring from?

Report your family details.

Instructor Cao said clearly,

no distinction is made between students.

Also, what's Second Floor?

It isn't in Old Library. It's the Rear Mountain.

Only Fu Zi and his personal Disciples cultivate there.

- How's Old Library linked? - Stupid.

A student must be excellent to enter Old Library 2nd floor.

To enter Second Floor building is even harder.

Fu Zi has 12 Disciples only.

So, to enter Second Floor,

you need to be phenomenal in Front Courtyard.

Understand?

Why tell him all that? He won't comprehend.

I say,

you can't go to Old Library.

Does Old Library belong to your family? No.

Does Tang Academy belong to your family. Also no.

Okay, okay, okay, Ning Que.

You're Ning Que. I'll remember.

Thanks, Your Highness.

Though I'm aware of what you've said to me,

I insist on going in.

- You... - Me...what?

Heard of border bandits?

They're cruel killers.

But hearing the name 'Blue Lake Woodcutter',

they cower and flee.

Why?

Because that guy beheads them like chopping wood.

I've read few books, but I've chopped a lot of wood.

Your Highness, want to see?

How brazen!

You're in Princess' presence.

Kneel!

Greetings, Princess.

Imperial sister.

What are you doing?

I heard a greenhouse flower envies a mountain Snow Lotus.

I never knew a skyborne goshawk envies a hen on the ground.

- All of you may leave. - Yes.

You two stay.

Your skills lag.

Train well.

To prevail over others,

rely on your abilities, not your position's power.

Back at home, self-reflect.

Yes, sister.

Ning Que.

Come with me.

I saw what just happened.

What?

Want to defend your brother?

Ning Que, where's all your pride come from?

You're ill-mannered towards me.

Wherever I go, I receive much respect from all people.

Pity I'm not one of them.

Your Highness, I can't accept your gift.

Take care, don't overwork.

Hunyuan spoke harshly, but he made sense.

Not long after admission, you rush for fame.

Care for your body. Contribute to Tang.

I don't seek fame

and Tang contribution isn't my ideal.

I want to Cultivate. Cultivators begin age 4 or 5

but I can't see how to begin. I can't waste my time.

So that's what you do in Old Library everyday.

I wonder why you called me today?

The day after tomorrow is my birthday.

Then best wishes, Princess, for Heaven's blessings.

I'm afraid "all people" are busy that day.

But it's also my mother's Memorial Day.

Father never mentions my birthday due to this.

Mother, it's Yu'er's birthday.

You promised to celebrate.

I'm so sorry.

No matter what, help your brother to rule.

In case Saintess gives birth, don't let his throne be taken.

Mother!

Mother, wake up.

Mother!

It'll just be a family dinner.

Bring Sang Sang with you.

This...is accepted.

"Princess' Residence"

I wanted to sort that guy out. Princess just had to butt in.

I'll add water.

There's a break in two days.

Come with me to Princess' Residence.

Yes, Young Master.

Add more.

Wanna burn me?

You were like this in Wei City.

What's that to do with it?

We must attend Princess' dinner and get business done–

East Town blacksmith, Chen Zixian.

(East Town Blacksmith)

Rain means less people.

I'll wait till only he is in the forge.

Wait at Princess' Residence.

I'll meet you there after.

When you've grown up, I'll take you into battle!

You want a sickle or an axe?

Chen Zixian!

No such person.

The one promoted to Deputy-General.

Chen..Zi..Xian!

Chen Zixian, you were like family to General Lin.

Yet you accused him of state treason.

That's 15 years ago.

A wrong is done; a debt is collected.

So just end me quickly.

How you die isn't up to you.

I want you to tell me,

even if he was guilty, why slaughter all his household?

Even the doorkeeper wasn't spared.

They're dead. What's the point of asking?

I've had a very hard life.

Who hasn't had a hard life?

Mine's worse.

The root of my suffering is people like you!

In other words, you're here to kill me.

Until now, I felt it didn't matter whether I did it or not.

I still have to die and I won't die in peace.

Tonight they aim to assassinate Elder Lin Feng.

If they succeed, Light Hall will no longer have Light.

Great Priest Lin Feng.

Night grows late.

You should rest.

Who ordered the massacre of General Lin's entire household?

You're impatient to spill my blood to repay those deaths?

My life of miserable poverty, suffering for the crime I did,

won't be enough to satisfy you.
