Thank you so much. Good evening.
Hello. Hi.
Good evening, everyone.
You're very welcome to the show.
I tell you, I am feeling good about tonight's show. The audience, you sound
amazing. And the guest list is sensational.
I've got my Skims underwear on.
Look over there, singing for us later for the first time. It's the fabulous
Little Sims.
be performing her new single, Lion.
But first, get ready to roar for my sofa guest tonight.
He first found fame as the mild-mannered dad in Malcolm in the Middle, then
turned drug kingpin in Breaking Bad, and this year won his seventh Emmy as an
unhinged movie boss in the studio. Now he's back on stage in Arthur Miller's
All My Sons. It's our good friend, Bryan Cranston!
in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story and this summer wowed London Palladium
audiences and passers-by with her startling performance in Evita. Please
welcome the brilliant Rachel Zegler!
And
we
have two stars from the new legal drama...
One earned an Emmy for her role as Marcia Clark in The People vs.
O.J. Simpson and starred in nine seasons of the cult anthology series American
Horror Story.
The other is part of a reality family dynasty who became a global
entrepreneur, fashion icon, and soon-to-be lawyer.
Please welcome Sarah Paulson and Kim Kardashian!
Back everybody first time. Welcome to Kim Kardashian. Hello I'm very happy to
see that is a sitting-down dress I saw you backstage and I thought will that be
a sitting-down dress, but it's good. I'm praying that it is So what is it it so
we can see through it you can it's it's a by Dilara It's like latex. I think
Sarah said it best. It's like a condom with a doily underneath it
She's wearing a couch and she's wearing a condom.
That's right.
And now, Rachel, am I right that you and Kim met at the Academy
Museum? Gala? Gala? We were at the same table, but... I didn't see her.
No, I couldn't see anyone.
Before you get over there, so this is Rachel.
This is Rachel, who's on the host committee.
I was hosting, yeah. You're on the host committee as Rachel, looking lovely.
Now, you're thinking, why couldn't Kim see Rachel? This is Kim.
Kim couldn't see anyone.
You know what, I really wanted to commit.
Before I walked out, I was in the car and I was about to put the mask on and I
text my sister Kylie a picture.
And I said, should I wear the mask or go in and take it off or just wear it at
the table and pretend to not eat or something?
And she said, commit.
And so I could see through it a little bit. And I saw your hair and the color
of your dress.
And I knew it was you. And then I felt so awkward going up to people like, hi.
It's me.
It's Kim.
The photo looks like you're in the witness protection.
But still wants to do the red carpet, God damn it. Still looks fabulous.
I did have like a full two and a half hour hair and makeup full glam under
there. What was the pitch when the designer said, and the...
The final piece, you're going to love it, is a mask.
It's a runway piece.
Like, was that how it was on the runway? And I really loved it. And it was just,
it's his vision. It was Glenn Martin at Margiela's vision. And I wanted to honor
his vision. Yeah. And your shoulder makeup, we get to see that. Your
shoulders have never looked finer.
Glowing. Glowing.
And Brian and Sarah, I know you've met because, Brian, you gave Sarah her Emmy.
Yes, I did. And I was...
Pleased to do it. I'm trying to remember which one.
I've only won one.
That's the one.
That was the one. I like the compliment, though.
I'll take it. I'll take it.
Yeah, you did hand me my Emmy, and you don't remember the face that I gave you
when I... Because I was climbing the stairs. Yes.
Living in, like, an apoplectic terror that I was going to faceplant.
Yes. And so... And that's why I... Oh, yeah, OK, you have a picture. You see
this, but what you're not seeing is that I'm looking at you like, get up here.
And I was, like, really giving him the old... Yeah.
The old, what, four in the eyeballs.
And what's sweet is that Brian would say, which one? He has seven. I know.
Seven. How dare you. How dare you.
How dare you.
They're all, you just won your latest, you just won your latest for The Studio.
Which you are so good in. So good. You are so good. You play a kind of big
studio uber boss.
Yeah. And there's that mad final show in the series where, is it mushrooms you're
on? I'm on all kinds of... Yeah, I'm wearing a phallus hat and I'm eating a
lobster. I'm absolutely supposed to be out of my mind high.
I love this next picture. This is you. I love that.
They did a Weekend at Bernie's tribute to try to get me up and
out of the way. And so we're...
Doing the scene, and the way Seth Rogen works on this show is fantastic.
You've all got to say yes when they call you because you have to get out the plot
points, but then say whatever you want, do whatever. You're playing the whole
time and throwing out ideas.
And one time on this last episode, I was in...
inside a fountain at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, and there was this
Venetian woman, and it was like, oh, my God, she was beautiful, and I was, you
know, first kissing her, and the next take, I was fondling her, and the next
take, she was fondling me.
And at one point, I thought, I'm just going to try to make the writers laugh,
because now it's take 16.
And, well,
I started...
copulating this statue.
Oh, yeah. Yeah, and... Yeah, and so... And it won you an Emmy.
No.
Note to self.
When in doubt, copulate.
So, I... And it was, like, an interesting thing, because I just wanted
to make them laugh, and that's the take they used. I didn't... I didn't realize
they were gonna use it at the end.
Didn't realize.
Yeah.
They kind of ignore these moves.
Listen, let's get started.
Kim Kardashian and Sarah Paulson are together in the new legal drama series
All's Fair.
It starts here on the 4th of November on Disney+. And now there's a lot of
excitement about this. The trailer was the most watched trailer on Hulu of all
time. 200 million views, ladies and gentlemen.
Let's add to those numbers by watching a bit of the trailer now. Here we go.
Boy, do I love coming here.
Walking down that hallway shaped like a clown cervix.
Beef curtains.
Black Mae West. As much as I'd love to continue to exchange pleasant cocktail
pleasantries, there is a war to be won.
God, I love my job.
I tell my clients every day, you never really know a person.
It's just a trap.
Guess who's here with me right now?
Jay, say bye-bye to your future ex-wife.
Bye-bye.
See you in court, you poor discarded... Let's light her on fire.
It's showtime, lady.
Love and war.
Before you comment on my new appearance, please know that this look is mine.
Nothing more than next Halloween's costume where I will be dressing as a
whore lawyer.
This is written and directed by Ryan Murphy, who you've both worked with
before. Sarah, you've worked with him so much. So many times. He's, like, the
only person who continues to hire me.
So, let's get into it.
It's an all-female law firm.
Who do you play, Kim? I play Elora Grant, and we used to work at the same
firm, but we leave her, which leaves her... Behind, which is what turns me
into that person. Very bitter.
Yes.
And it's me, Niecy Nash, and Naomi Watts with our mentor, Glenn Close.
Yes. And we start our own all-female-led family law divorce firm.
Yeah, and you're dealing with your own divorce?
And, yes, I get... Yes.
And is that... So, you end up being kind of arch enemies?
Well, I was left behind. They started their own firm, we were sort of growing
up together.
I go out on my own after they don't take me, and then I make my life's work
about...
murdering them, basically.
OK, OK, fair enough.
And now, here's the thing, Kim. Obviously, you are so, you know,
seasoned as a TV performer, you know, the queen of reality television, but
this is different, you know, stepping into the acting thing. So, what were the
kind of dos and don'ts? What were the things that people told you about before
you started this?
I mean, working with a cast like this, and this is my first big...
Project on my own.
I wanted to just make sure that I was really prepared I wanted to make sure
that I if I could what if what I can control is Making sure I absolutely knew
my lines was on time super professional. I just wanted to every day
She was on Kim time I mean,
I've just had the best time the best it's just you have no idea what working
with these women is like it's like summer camp All day long. It strikes me
that, you know, compared to a lot of the other things in your life, this must be
so fun. It is. We've seen those pictures of you guys, all the cast in Paris, just
having such a... That's your birthday, isn't it? Yes. Yes. Yes.
Was it before production you had the slumber party at your mom's house? It
was during production.
I had never seen Fatal Attraction. Can you believe this? So, working with
Glenn, if that's, like, a must... Young, young.
Young, it's true. So, we had a slumber party at my mom's house and all watched
it.
This was actually Ryan's our first of course that statue. This is Ryan
Murphy's house. There's the statue What's the left of it
And so you all sat there with Glenn Close watching her film, yeah, we
got her her favorite Oreo cookie shake Oreo cookie shakes from what's that
place? It was a Dairy Queen. Yeah, and lots of martinis. Yeah. Oh nice I could
tell from the picture. Yeah, you could.
And was Glenn relaxed about you all just watching her film?
Well, first of all, she was a little drunk. Yeah. You can say very drunk.
Very, very drunk. We were all very drunk. Yeah.
And hearing her commentary about everything that was going on was so
fascinating. Wow.
It was so funny.
Like, it was crazy. Yeah, she was, like, talking about needing to, like, drink a
pitcher of margaritas during this one sex scene in the elevator.
And she said that there was, like, a pitcher of margaritas on the bottom of
the elevator floor.
And, like, every time they cut, she would drink one. Because it was, you
know, that very...
Yes. Scene where there's a lot of things happening. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Nicely described.
Thank you.
Including hand gestures. You can tell that, like, I have a lot of action,
right? Yeah, a lot of things happening. And the good thing, I suppose, Kim, is
that you're not going to be intimidated by all these famous actors because you
grew up around famous... Like, am I right? Was Madonna your neighbour?
She was.
I would walk her dog. When I was eight years old, I would walk her dog. And she
paid me in... Remember those, like, jelly rubber neon bracelets?
Oh, yeah. She paid me in those.
She's so cheap.
And she handed them to me in a shoebox, and I went to... She's a moron child.
Take these.
I remember going to school wearing them, and all my friends were like, oh, my
God, that's so cool. Where did you get that? And I was like, Madonna gave it to
me.
Yeah, right. Just 70 hours of walking your dog.
Sitting in school with the dog.
She asked me, she's like, do you still have the bracelets?
And I was like, no, I don't know what I did with them. She was like, that's like
you lost the coolest thing in the world. And I was like, how could I have given
away Madonna's bracelets? I wish I still had them.
I like that she's annoyed.
You gave them away to a child who was walking your dog for free.
How precious were they?
And talking of Madonna, famously, Madonna also played Evita. Did she rock
up to see you?
No.
She's cheap, she's not supportive.
I love that film. No, but Elaine Page, who originated the role out here, came
twice, which was amazing. And then she came again. Did you know she was there?
No. Oh, God. I prefer not to. No, of course. Terrifying. And then you got a
letter. You got a lovely letter. I got a lovely letter from Dame Judi Dench.
Whoa. Which was...
good noise everyone again no it was not judy dench yeah and um i came into my
dressing room and there was this letter on blue paper sitting on my dressing
room table And I completely skipped the letterhead. I just was reading what it
said. And it was so complimentary, so sweet and wonderful.
I couldn't really read the signature.
And then I turned to look at the letterhead, and it says, from the desk
of Dame Judi Dench. And I freaked out. It is now in a double-sided frame. Yes,
that's correct. See? Watch and learn. Yes, see?
That's what my Julie bracelets would have been. It would have been a
laminated box.
But cut to Dame Judi Dench in the theater.
She opens up a basket and goes... Eh, not that one.
Let's go with this one.
You made it seem so personal.
I would still take it. I would still take it. I'd take a napkin that she,
like, wiped her mouth after eating a hot dog. Yes. I'd take it. Yeah, absolutely.
That would be valuable.
Sorry. That would be valuable.
Just like a mustardy sauerkraut. I would just take it and...
Yeah. I'd put it in a Lucite box. That's what I'm saying.
Let's continue.
Let's throw all this out.
In all's fair, obviously, we're saying it's the legal drama, and, Kim, you are
trading. Where are you in that? You're very nearly qualified, aren't you?
Yes, I took the bar exam in July, and I get the results a few days after
our premiere, so in two weeks. Oh, my God. Oh, Wyron, please pray for me.
I worked really, really hard.
Why did it take so long?
Something that you just always wanted to do or are you gonna actually practice
law? I hope to practice love really in like ten years I'll give up being Kim K
and be a lawyer like a trial lawyer amazing.
Yeah, that's my don't wear this
It could be my strategy. Yeah, it could be.
And, obviously, law is in your blood. Your father, Robert Kardashian, he was
famously part of the team that defended OJ Simpson.
How old were you when that was happening?
I was 14.
Oh, so you do remember it. Yeah, I do remember. I went to the trial once to
visit because my dad was like, this is a piece of history. I want you guys to
witness it. And my mom was Nicole's best friend. So we were at my dad's that
week. And so my mom and my stepdad are sitting with the Brown family on this
side. And then my dad pulls us in. And we had no idea my mom was going to be
there. And we're skipping school for this. Oh, my. We had no idea. So we look
over. And my mom is like, girls, trying to get our attention in the middle of
the trial. And we're like. do not look at mom.
She's like, get out of here. And I was like, well, it's dad's time, you know?
Like, we're with him. So, yeah.
And famously then, Sarah, you played Marcia Clark. Yes, I did. In The People
vs. OJ. So, did you discuss the trial at all while you were working together?
No, not enough, actually. Not enough. We touched on a few things. A few, like,
tea stuff that we really wanted to get us, yeah. I mean, it's such a...
weird thing to connect you to.
Yeah, it is, actually.
Yeah. It really is. It's really interesting, because this was, like, a
really big part of our lives. I mean, they portrayed me and my sisters in the
show as well. So it was interesting to see that.
And I was so, I mean, like, Marcia Clark would call the house and talk to my mom,
and I would answer the phone. So, like, I've been, I was so in it. How'd I do?
Was I okay?
So was it your father's?
fame that kind of made the Kardashians interesting?
Because I know you worked with Paris Hilton and things. What was the thing
that kind of sparked the... Maybe a combination, but a lot of like my
stepdad and he was like... um you know doing reality shows and he was kind of
out there in the spotlight a lot so i think it was just the combination of all
those things of all of those things and hanging out with paris and being a part
of that life and also just being really good at it and then well and then they
asked us to shoot a pilot we had no idea what it would really turn into and then
a show fell through that they were doing on the e-network and they're like can
you start filming next week and film a whole series and so we just kind of got
thrown in and it lasted 20 years. So, yeah, it's our 37th season filming
a reality show.
Is that a record?
That must be a record.
Well, I mean, we switched networks, so we did 20 seasons of Keeping Up With The
Kardashians, ten seasons of spin-offs, and now this is season seven of The
Kardashians. Wow.
Spill the tea. Did you recreate scenes? No. Never? No.
We didn't have to. Every time we were filming...
Something sometimes at the end of the season. We were like we'd fight We're
gonna be so boring. We've filmed every crazy thing that's possibly happened to
us What could we possibly film next and then like my stepdad will turn into a
woman and it'll be like So
relatable
But also, we must congratulate you on the success of Skin.
Yes. Yes, yes.
So, you know, you have an underwear line and you think, well, that's nice. What
is it valued at? Something like $4 billion?
I mean, that is nuts.
And you are properly involved.
Yes, yes. I do everything from all the design to pick out all the campaigns.
I... I do everything. That's my daily job. When we were watching Fatal
Attraction, the thing that Kim was doing was snapping pictures of the lingerie
that Glenn was wearing because she was thinking about Skim's ideas and things.
So it's like it all comes from that horse. The ideas, that crazy horse the
other night. Crazy horse. We went to the crazy horse the other night.
But also, it's that thing where you just have that knack of marketing when you
come up with something that someone else might have thought of and gone, well,
no, I'm not going to do that. But you go, no, I will. And then it just...
Takes over the world like the face. What does it call the thing the face? Is it a
face shapewear face? Yes, we all need a little double chin snatch so Don't say
that again No,
no we don't Mine would come up and
cover my hips And is this your idea it was And you wear it at night?
All day, Graham, any time.
OK. But, yeah, I mean, I just... I figured a lot of women, they use
shapewear for other body parts to hold it up. Why wouldn't you want to hold up
your face?
No, it's so... I mean, hello.
Hello. Patient zero.
And this, there was some controversy with your thong.
What was it called? The ultimate bush.
The ultimate bush. The ultimate bush.
So many different colours.
There's a selection.
This is like a chocolate box.
A chocolate box. It's awesome.
Don't ever say chocolate box again, OK?
Don't say that.
Why don't you not say chocolate box again?
Does the carpet match the drapes campaign?
Look, is that a yeti? That's like a clear one.
A mature platinum blonde. Glenn Close? Oh!
I recognise that. Let's get her reaction to that.
Get into her. How the hell did this idea come up? I love it. I did a photo shoot
once and they wanted me to... It was like a crazy shoot and they wanted me to
have hair in my...
Pantyhose and so then like just to look very like 70s like a 70s bush and I just
thought how do you get this?
How do you get your 70s bush? And so we just, like, cut hair extensions and put
it in. And you're like... Rated. Again!
We're laughing at the same time. It sold out. It's awesome. It sold out in 15
minutes. I'm wearing one right now.
Please, that's good enough for us. Let's see.
What's the next big idea what's then what's the next thing we're going from
Merkin's to Skims Beauty. Oh, yeah launching all makeup and
fragrance and Yeah starting with fragrance then into beauty and
amazing body products and really fun Skims beauty.
I told you, an impressive person. The unstoppable Kim Kardashian. So
impressive, it really is.
All right, let's move on to Rachel Zegler. Talk of the town this summer in
the sold-out run of Evita at the London Palladium. Now, the cast album, if you
didn't see it, you can hear it, because the cast album is out now.
Yes!
So you're doing your eight shows a week, you're stepping up, you're being Miss
West End, but you're recording this at the same time?
Yes, in a very amazing way that allows people who listen to it to hear it the
way that it was performed. It was recorded live at the Palladium, which is
amazing. They recorded the whole show over the course of like eight or nine of
them. And then when we came in for like, you know, what we would call pickups,
where we would just, you know, refine certain things, it was all on stage at
the theater with the mics that we were using every night.
The finished product, I'm very, very proud. I think it's so fantastic.
Well, listen, let's just remind ourselves of Rachel's amazing
performance. Oh, God. Yes.
I'm their saviour
That's what they call me So don't ever call me Anything goes to
make...
I was at opening night with Pedro Pascal and yeah, there we are.
My mom and dad.
Mom and dad.
Am I really old enough to be your mother? No.
No.
No. And even if you were? No.
One second.
I was at opening night.
It was one of the more extraordinary things I've ever seen.
I know, amazing. And you were there. I saw it. I saw it later, yeah. Yeah. It
was... That's ridiculous. And you and Pedro went to see each other? We went to
see you and we waited a very long time for you and you never came out. I'm so
sorry. But I think it was because, you know... It was press night. It was press
night. But I remember Pedro and I being like, we've never been two bigger losers
than we are right now.
And we had been, like, weeping and screaming and jumping up. And I could
see you the whole time. You could? Oh, yeah. Oh, it was the most, I think,
extraordinary performance I've seen on stage. I'm so glad I saw it. It was
really remarkable.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Is this you?
No. Oh, my God.
And tell me this. You know, you, as a little girl, I think you wanted to play
Evita. Yeah.
But you can't even, in your mind, ever imagined it being like this. Not at all.
I thought, I will do it in my community theater and that will be enough.
And then I did it for... Do it now in the community. I would love to do that.
I'd go back in on heartbeat.
It'd be so fun.
I never could have imagined it would be in this format with these amazing
people. Some of them are in the audience tonight. Really?
Where are you guys?
It was amazing.
So everyone in the theatre loved it, but then there was this moment that everyone
was talking about where people outside the theatre get to love you too. So
we've got to look at, before we see that, so describe, I mean, you don't
know, so describe to Kim what happened. Absolutely. It's essentially...
Intermission happens act two. Yeah. Yeah and during the intermission i'm getting
into what the public knows as a vita with the blonde wig and the big white
dress And a camera at the top of act two would follow me outside to the balcony
of the palladium and stream into the theater So that the theater goers could
see there. There's there's Rachel. Yeah, there's little tiny me. Wow And so did
you know that it was going to turn into this huge draw?
No, because when we were doing tech for it one or two people would kind of stop
and be like that looks like the girl from snow white and walk away and then
all of a sudden it was like tick tock viral the next day and then by the end
of the run we had 130 000 people that had come over the course of 12 weeks
because they couldn't get it wow yeah and they couldn't get a ticket and they
knew exactly what time she was exactly when to come yeah yeah yeah we've got
we've got a clip that this is what someone just shot from the street and i
don't know why this i find this so moving
This is Rachel singing her heart out in Argyle Street, and just listen to the
crowd.
It's so quiet.
It's a pin drop.
Yeah.
In there.
Sorry.
Is this the last night you are in tears you're in tears and here goes a big
movement
Also
in the audience one night
was your mentor the man who kind of shot you to fame website or Steven Spielberg
rocked up There he is.
She did see him, Sarah. Yeah, clearly.
He didn't wait for an hour and a half.
I'm so, so sorry.
And that's what happens when you come two weeks before you close.
He's the best I can't I still like it was it was one of those really weird out
-of-body Experiences where I was performing on stage and I could just see
his silhouette perfectly and it was like I was 17 again He was gonna be there. I
knew he was coming I didn't know when and I felt like I was 17 auditioning for
West Side Story again being like I hope he likes me I really hope he likes me
and I think he did Yeah, I think everyone did.
Because actually, Brian, you've worked with Spielberg, haven't you? Yes, I did
Saving Private Ryan.
But just a small role. I played a one-armed colonel. There you are. Oh,
good. Look at him.
And so when they shot me... As described, I think you'll find.
Funny.
Laughing at the handicapped.
You tell them, Brian. I tell them.
Doing that shot my arm was actually on my bum holding my bum as it is
and So I thought well, how would a guy like that?
Operate in life and I thought okay I'm gonna figure out how to how to have a
little demitasse cup and a glass and I'm reading that No down here, and I'm
stirring this tap tap put the spoon on the saucer put the saucer down
Turn the page, you know, and I so I was really excited I worked on this for like
a week because I wasn't working on and and Stephen comes in and I go Stephen I
want to show you something and I showed him the whole thing when I got there I'm
reading in the report, you know, I got the thing I I stir my coffee tap tap put
the spoon on the demi-tat put it down turn the page and he goes Yeah, good.
We're not gonna do that
I like the way you look like you still remember how to do it.
He's working on it for so long. Damn, if he could do it somewhere.
Actually, I'm realising, you also worked with Steven Spielberg. Yes, I did.
The Post.
The Post. I played Tom Hanks' wife.
Incredible.
Look at how young I look.
And then you were directing and you asked him for advice.
Yeah, I was going to direct an episode. I did direct an episode of American
Horror Story.
Thank you.
And it was the hardest thing I ever did in my life and the scariest thing I've
ever done and kind of very confronting because I realized I'm really like a
glass half empty kind of person and that's really not the spirit that you
want when the person is directing. But he did give me great advice which he
said to change your shoes at lunch.
Okay No, like go and bring a second pair of shoes so that you're like because
your feet get tired, you know While you actors are off in your trailers. Oh,
look at how it is Just really work it you were acting in the show that you
were also crazy.
How did that work? That was not great So many shoes My
character shoes my Steven Spielberg directing was your director self
complimentary to your ass No, she thought I was Darren.
Oh, very quickly, lots of rumours flying around.
Will America get to see your Evita? Are you going to Broadway?
It's not up to me. I would love to. Who's it up to? I don't know. God?
So you say yes. I need you to make this happen.
So if it doesn't happen, it's not you?
Yeah, I'm in. I want to do it so badly because I am a New Yorker. I want to
bring this thing that I love so much to my home. And in your head, do you know
what theatre you'd like to be in with a nice balcony?
It would be so cool to just have something that had, like, a plaza across
the street so that we don't have to stop traffic in New York, especially in the
theatre district in Times Square. Oh, well, I so hope it happens for everyone
over there.
Thank you so much.
Seven a week.
Seven. Seven a week.
I have more good news for theatre lovers. Bryan Cranston is returning to
London's West End.
They're thrilled. They're excited.
He stars in Arthur Miller's All My Sons. It starts at Windham's Theatre on the
14th of November.
And this is obviously the Arthur Miller classic, directed by the great Ivo van
Hove. And he's one of those people, he's a bit like Jamie Lloyd, he takes these
kind of pieces you think you know, and then he shakes them up. So is there a
big idea behind this production?
There are several big ideas behind it. I'm not...
liberty to reveal what that is. But you always are surprised with Ivo's
productions. You know, we did Network together, and it was, you know, jarring
and fascinating.
And we're having fun. It's a great cast, and it's a beautiful play. Arthur Miller
wrote this in the late 1940s, right after World War II. And it's about
betrayal and family and ideology and...
You know, death and family and... It's a comedy!
And also, the other thing, apparently, you like British audiences.
I do. Very much.
Yes.
Have you worked here before?
Oh, my God.
What's the difference? Well, first of all, we're in a country that actually
truly values art and theatre of all kinds and supports it.
In America, it's it's commercialized. That's what it is. It really is
commercialized in America at the end of a play It could be a terrible play And
I'm sitting there going. Oh my god, this
play was awful and I feel compelled now to stand up In Britain, they do not
stand. If they don't like it. And they will give you a polite applause to the
level of their appreciation of the show. And as performers, I appreciate
that. Don't stand up out of obligation.
If something we did on stage...
compels you to stand and cheer, fantastic.
But if it doesn't, don't. I like the lazy British audience where they don't
give you standing ovation, they do the high clap.
They're like, I would stand, but fuck that.
You get the idea.
I really liked it.
But no, but Rachel Zegler is nodding along, but you haven't experienced that.
Your audience were on their feet every night.
Yes, and that was very nice. It was a very singular experience.
I did a play in New York, and I completely agree with the pity stand
that happens, where it's like, they're just... They're standing because it's
over. And, you know, and it's lovely, and it feels lovely, but not unless you
feel like you've really, really earned it. And we were very fortunate.
No, but I've never said... Evita, you turned people into Americans, because
the standing ovation went on for so long.
Yeah, I saw Pedro's stand after Rainbow High.
No, in the middle of Rainbow High. I was like...
And I was like, Dad, you're embarrassing me in front of my friends.
And you refused to see them backstage. Yes, exactly. I did refuse.
You were like, I will not. No.
I see them back there. Pedro, who? Let them sit.
Steven Spielberg, bring him on. Bring him on.
I'm interested in listening to these guys talking about being on stage and
kind of, you know, the highs and lows and the rewards of that. Any desire?
Sounds terrifying.
OK. Nothing scares me. That means you'll do it. That means you'll do it. Well,
then now I need it to happen. OK, now you've got to do it. Now we've got to do
it. But I also am like, I know what I would not be good at, so... You don't
know. You don't know anything.
You'll never find out. You know nothing.
But you think it would scare you.
Yeah, absolutely nothing scares her. So this is very interesting information
Yeah, I I you don't get nervous and I I don't think I would get nervous I just
don't have the desire because I don't think I would Be that good at it. So I
don't it terrifies me. There are a lot. I see it as a challenge They're in here
writing a play for you right now All four of us do you sing no, okay. There's
another thing. Yeah Two things now. Two things we've got. Is she going to sing?
Is she going to star in a Broadway play? I cannot wait. I'll be in the front row
like, yes!
And, Brian, very happy news because, this is extraordinary, 20 years on,
Malcolm in the Middle is coming back.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Is Jane coming back? Yeah, Jane's coming back.
Have you filmed it already? Yeah, we shot it already in Vancouver. We had a
great time. I've been badgering Linwood Boomer, who is the creator of the show,
for about ten years to say, we should do a reunion show. We should do a reunion
show. And finally he relented and came up with a great idea, and we got
everybody together.
What's so interesting is that Frankie and Chris and all the boys, 25 years ago
when we first started this show, are now the age that I was when I started the
show. They have children of their own. So I think it's interesting to see what
happens. And is it a one-off or a series? We have four episodes that are
coming on Disney+. Oh, my God. Yeah, so it's coming on sometime next year. And
does the dad end up in the same situation as he always did? Oh, God.
You know, Graham, I need a new agent, because for some reason...
They have this older guy always naked.
I don't know why.
It's like, for some reason, I'm in tighty-whitey underwear or I'm naked.
I mean, it's like, why?
I'm the butt of your joke.
Stop it.
But here's the thing. It does sort of run in the Cranston family, the not
liking clothes thing.
Oh. Tell us about your Uncle Bob.
Oh.
Well, Bob is indeed my uncle. Yeah.
We should say late, late uncle.
He's my late uncle.
He's passed on, but he was a nudist. Oh.
Yeah. Uncle Bob was a nudist.
That's the first line of a play.
And, you know, he was in his 90s when he passed away, and he was... Still naked.
Still naked!
And I used to go visit him, of course, in Florida, where all nudist colonies
are. Listen, I was born in Florida, and you've never seen me naked.
You paused for a second. Wait, wait, wait, wait. What do you mean?
Um... Yes.
I think I sent the producers a photograph or two. Oh, wait a minute. Is
this really a picture of your Uncle Bob? This is my real Uncle Bob in a... I
think I sent it somewhere. This is the picture of Uncle Bob. No!
How dare you. I'm sorry. It was right there. It's not only Bob, it's bits and
bobs, isn't it?
Of all the things you've chosen to wear, you went with a hat?
Well,
he wants to protect him from the sun.
He wanted to go to the lake there, and I go visit him, and he said, I'll bring a
chair for you. And I said, look, Bob, I'm not going to go naked.
I'm just not going to do that. Or sit on the chair.
And he brought a chair. He said, take that chair. And I brought the chair. And
he decided, I thought we were going to sit side by side, look at it. No. No, he
comes around.
And the chair I had sat about this level.
It's time for music. This British rap artist is a Mercury Prize, Ivor Novello
and Brit Award winner. Her sixth studio album, Lotus, is out now and here
performing the latest single, Lion, featuring Obong. JR is Little Sims.
Sim Simar's arrived with the heart of a lion, my Nigerian pride.
Everybody scatter, scatter.
They say that the task force is waiting for me outside.
Yo, listen, is you really down for the ride? If I get caught, I dedicate my
life.
Bonfire, ratatata. If it gets to kicking off, will you go there, ma? Will you go
there, my side? Give me stainless gold. Think it's the time to finally take my
throne.
Don't break your neck. Looking for something like this. And you will never
find something like this.
Don't break your neck.
Looking for something like this. And I'll never find something like this. You
need to understand I'm lowering in a prime when you see me.
The rest when we see the lock stem swinging.
I roll up in this thing looking effortless.
Better kiss the ring when you see me. I need to scrape the surface from the
power that's within me.
Couldn't get here without us putting up a good fight.
It's here is never what it seems. Look at them like, what do you mean? We just
had a dream and a bush fight. My mama said that it will happen in good time.
And I was struggling to run it. my last legs i said i never quit until i take my
last breath yo i was down on my luck and i was champagne reception small out on
my hands it's god's plan and with these blessings i try to bless who i can oh
don't break your neck huh looking for something like this but you will never
find something like this
We don't care for what they say, that's my super power.
We don't care for what they say, that's my super power.
There's a glass of wine for you there.
Are you meeting everyone for the first time?
Yeah, I think we're meeting for the first time.
At the Met Bar. Oh, nice.
Yeah, a couple of years back. Did you have a mask on?
Tie that thing right forward, tie it up and you're good to go. Yeah.
Right for the... Yeah.
Yeah.
Sam's chin thing. Apparently, it helps your neck, too.
That was Lion, and that is off the latest studio album, Lotus. How
beautiful is that? Out now, everybody.
And it sounds... It sounds like this was such a labour of love. You know, you
were working in a different way. It was hard.
Yeah, it was tough.
It was, I guess, born out of frustration and not trusting myself
during the creative process, feeling a real loss of confidence in myself as a
creative person, which I found really tough.
Like, I didn't trust my ear in going to the studio to make stuff.
Just crippled with self-doubt.
And so Lotus, for me, symbolises, like, you know, regardless of what you're
going through, you can still rise above the muddy waters and become something
extraordinary, so... That's a beautiful image.
Gorgeous, isn't it?
And that kind of... What's kind of amazing is that that creative doubt, you
know, because you've been doing this... As young as you are, you've been doing
it for a long time.
Too long.
Seriously,
you were a child when you started rapping.
How old?
I started when I was nine.
Wow. And you did your first headlining show at the O2.
Was that last Friday?
Yeah. Oh, I mean, what an amazing gig.
And at the start of the show...
Dave, before you came on, you showed an adorable clip. Are you nine in this clip
or are you a bit older? Are you going to do it?
You showed it at the O2.
I know, but... No, this is so sweet. This is Very Little Sims.
Here we go.
That there was there was a stage for a nine-year-old rapper.
Like where was that? Yeah, that was a local competition in North London that
My sister's I think my sister's in the audience today
So that was one of them. Well, thank you so much, Little Sims.
It's great to finally have you on the show. We've wanted you forever.
Thank you. So give it up for that great performance. Little Sims, everyone!
That's it for tonight. No time for red chairs, I'm all red, so please say thank
you to the rest of my guests. Fran Cranston!
Rachel Zegler!
Sarah...
