1

Once upon a time, there was a planet far away in outer space.

2

The environment there was almost the same as Earth's.

3

So, of course, there were aliens living on it.

4

After a long process of evolution,

5

those aliens

6

established their own civilization.

7

One day, their scientists predicted that their galaxy was going to collapse.

8

To escape, they immigrated to other planets in the universe by spaceship.

9

And one group of them came to Earth.

10

They called themselves the Fox Clan.

11

Ancient men on Earth were shocked when they saw them.

12

An ancient book reads that a huge ship-like object flew above the western sea.

13

The people in it wore crowns, had white feathers all over their bodies, and flew high in the sky with no wings.

14

That is the first impression the Fox Clan made on humans.

15

To adapt to the environment on Earth, the Fox Clan never stopped evolving.

16

Finally, they began to look like humans and gradually fit in with them.

17

Since ancient times, the conflicts between humans and the Fox Clan never ended.

18

There was a government proofreading official named Dai Fu,

19

who was especially interested in the love between foxes and humans.

20

He believed love could overcome everything.

21

After Dai Fu died, his son collected all of the stories he had written.

22

He called it "Guang Yi Ji" and had it published.

(The Great Book of Marvels)

23

It was quite popular among its readers.

24

After storytellers added more details, the stories spread even further.

25

But humans began to fear foxes, instead of just being curious.

26

Foxes noticed that humans were getting less and less friendly.

27

They had to hide their identity in this world.

Subbing and Timing brought to you by the Love Knot Team @viki.com

31

Pipi.

32

Pipi!

33

I broke up with Jialin.

34

After I went to the US, I realized

35

that girls will always be jealous.

36

Maybe because of the way we betrayed you,

37

whether he was on campus or out shopping,

38

I always suspected he was thinking of you.

39

I kept thinking he was going to call you, that he was still in love with you.

40

Maybe...

41

My trust in him ended when he cheated.

42

Then...

43

I became angry more easily and we were always fighting.

44

I realized...

45

it was so much harder for us to be lovers than friends.

46

I thought I had found my love.

47

But actually, when you and I stopped being friends,

48

my love for him also ended.

49

What's your point?

50

I don't really know.

51

Maybe I'm just too selfish.

52

Pipi,

53

I'm sorry.

54

Really... really sorry.

55

If you're apologizing for falling in love with him, save it.

56

Pipi...

57

There is nothing wrong with being in love with somebody.

58

I don't blame you.

59

But if you are apologizing as my best friend

60

who knew that my boyfriend no longer loved me,

61

but didn't bother to tell me... yes, you owe me an apology.

62

You might think I'm a hypocrite for saying this,

63

but I felt guilty the entire time.

64

I kept telling myself to put a stop to it,

65

that I had to let go. I shouldn't—

- But you didn't.

66

I read the letter you wrote to Jialin when you were young.

67

I realized that you didn't really know him.

68

I have known Tao Jialin for over 20 years.

69

Yes, I know that.

70

- But in the past 20 years—

- Tianxin,

71

you were with my ex-boyfriend.

72

Now you come back telling me you broke up.

73

You talked about his problems. Now, you are saying I don't know him.

74

What do you want really?

75

Just forget about it.

76

Pipi,

77

answer me this. Did you really treat him like a boyfriend

78

or did you make him your idol? You worshiped him. You spoiled him.

79

You thought he was perfect, but he is not.

80

Every one has weaknesses and a dark side.

81

When you're struggling or in difficulty,

82

you need someone reliable to support you.

83

But everyone else needs that, too. Who doesn't want someone to rely on?

84

You think everyone is so perfect.

85

Everyone works so hard to let you keep on thinking that.

86

Did you know that? Did that ever cross your mind?

87

What have you ever done for him in that relationship?

88

I was here to apologize.

89

After everything, I really wish we can all live a better life.

90

I also hope that

91

we can still be friends if you want.

92

Sorry, Wang Xuan. You must have waited quite a while.

93

No, no, it's fine.

94

- I was in a meeting.

- It's fine.

95

Your report was fantastic.

96

New City Focus has really become the center of attention.

97

Thank you for the compliment, Director Zhang.

98

Take a seat.

99

Do you know Zhang Dan?

100

Zhang Dan? Oh, the host of "Today Talk."

101

Yes, she is also the producer of the show.

102

She showed great interest in you after watching your report.

103

She's inviting you to do an exclusive interview tomorrow.

104

Exclusive interview...

105

I can't. I get really nervous. Maybe you can go.

106

I can't go. She asked because she thinks highly of you.

107

To be honest, Zhang Dan has never offered me an exclusive interview before.

108

All right, then. How should I prepare?

109

Actually, nothing much. She just wants to know about the unique qualities of this industry.

110

- Unique qualities?

- Yes.

111

Sometimes, success is not only about skill,

112

it's also about opportunity.

113

You see how much attention that report brought you? It is an opportunity.

114

This exclusive interview with Zhang Dan is, too.

115

We are short on staff since Qing Tan is on maternity leave.

116

That is another opportunity for you. If you have any problems, just let me know.

117

All right. Thank you, Director Zhang.

118

- You may leave now.

- All right.

119

Thank you.

120

[Hair Salon]

121

Hello?

122

You scared me! Why are you guys here again?

123

Your dad told me he has the answer for that ABC question I asked about yesterday.

124

Where is he?

125

I don't know.

126

Young man, I've found it.

127

- You found it?

- I've found it.

128

Come, come. Xiaoju, you, too.

129

Come here.

130

Actually, if I'm being honest,

131

20 years ago, I worked on the same task.

132

- Really?

- Yes, really. A, B, C.

133

But I didn't solve it.

134

Because I misread the title, I mistakenly took ABC as constants.

135

Actually, they are variables. Variables!

136

What do you mean?

137

It's like people. People change.

138

So, I'm saying, don't rush the solution if it's too hard.

139

In the future, the answer might come to you.

140

Right! People change, change, change into foxes.

141

Change into foxes... Right, why didn't I think of that? You always had a way with animals.

142

All the animals love you. I didn't think of that.

143

Funny. He's a funny guy.

144

Funny?

145

Excuse me, Miss Guan.

146

Please, come in.

147

Please, take a seat.

148

Drink some water.

149

Sorry, I came so suddenly.

150

It's all right.

151

What's the matter?

152

I think I'm obligated to tell you something.

153

Is it about Helan?

154

Yes, but it's also about you.

155

About me?

156

You might think this is too cruel,

157

but Miss Guan, do you know Shen Huiyan?

158

Yes, I know.

159

I have heard of her story with Helan.

160

Shen Huiyan sacrificed herself to cure Helan's eyesight.

161

She also received the imprint of the fox fairy flower.

162

Every twenty-five years, her life will end and reset again.

163

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you are Huiyan.

164

You mean...

165

I can't live past twenty-five, either?

166

That's all I will say about you.

167

Now, I'll talk about Helan.

168

Helan has never stopped looking for ways to save your life,

169

so that you can live a complete life.

170

Luckily, in your era, which is now,

171

we found the way.

172

So, what now?

173

Helan can save you.

174

How?

175

If he saves your life, he will die.

176

Helan began to see at night after eating Huiyan's liver energy.

177

In order for you to get your energy back, he has to die.

178

Then you can have a complete lifetime.

179

But for it to work, you have to fall in love with each other.

180

Does he know about this?

181

Did he already make up his mind

182

to sacrifice himself?

183

Is that the reason you came to find me?

184

- I just—

- You just don't want him to die.

185

I don't want to see either of you die.

186

But if I have to make a choice,

187

I only have one choice.

188

I'm sorry.

189

It's all right. This is not your fault.

190

I don't want him to die, either.

191

Miss Guan, no matter what decision you make,

192

I will respect your choice.

193

You just said

194

if he is to save me,

195

we must first be in love. Right?

196

Yes.

197

Subbing and Timing brought to you by the Love Knot Team @viki.com

198

Hello.

199

Hello, are you Mr. Helan?

200

Yes.

201

I'm Pipi's friend. My name is Tao Jialin.

202

I know, I have seen you before.

203

I'm sorry to disturb you.

204

It's all right.

205

Let Pipi walk on the left side when you go out.

206

She prefers it that way.

207

Set the thermostat to twenty-six degrees Celsius.

[79 degrees Fahrenheit]

208

Pipi likes orange juice.

209

She can't fall asleep if a light is on.

210

Strange. Why am I thinking about this all of a sudden?

211

Even though I have broken up with Pipi,

212

we grew up together.

213

She has been the most important friend to me.

214

I know.

215

For a very long time,

216

Pipi only had one boyfriend, which was me.

217

Now, you are with her.

218

To be honest, I'm kind of worried

219

because I don't know what type of person you are.

220

Pipi is a very kind girl.

221

But for someone so kind,

222

she endures too much injustice.

223

She is very easily hurt.

224

I hurt her feelings once

225

and I will never forget the sad look on her face.

226

I hope you don't follow my path and break her heart.

227

I won't.

228

Good. That's good, then.

229

If it's okay with you,

230

I would like to know more of her preferences.

231

Hello, Pipi.

232

I'm cleaning.

233

Stop, don't play with it. So what's up?

234

Nothing, really. You guys have fun. Later.

235

My apologies. I needed to deal with something.

236

I thought we were going out to eat tomorrow. Why change the date?

237

I heard you are going to be on TV tomorrow.

238

How did you know?

239

Zhang Dan is a good friend of mine.

240

So you set it up?

241

Not really, but I did mention your name.

242

But the most important reason is the trending list.

243

I received a USB drive yesterday with tips about a huge story.

244

Did you like it?

245

So you gave it to me?

246

- But how did you get those pictures and the information?

- No need to worry about that.

247

I have a present for you.

248

You just gave me this dress in the morning. I can't accept any more presents.

249

That was just casual shopping.

250

You are going to be on TV tomorrow. You need to dress well.

251

I'm going to make you the most beautiful journalist,

252

so the audience will remember you with just one glance.

253

Thanks for being so considerate of me.

254

Take a look.

255

This...

256

It's photos of Ciel Company's animal experimentation.

257

Ciel Company? Isn't that Qianhua's company?

258

But they say they never test on animals.

259

I'm not sure about that. It's up to you what you do with it.

260

- Pipi, bye-bye.

- Bye.

261

Tough day at work?

262

When I think that tomorrow will be my last day, I don‘t really want to leave.

263

This is for you.

264

How did you know I like this?

265

Can you promise me something?

266

From now on, no matter what happens, let me help.

267

Is there anything you want to tell me?

268

Yes.

269

I met Tao Jialin today.

270

Did you?

271

What did he tell you?

272

He said he was worried about you, so he wanted to talk to me.

273

He was afraid that I won't be able to take care of you.

274

He told me all of these little things about you.

275

Like how you love orange juice.

276

Like how you prefer to walk on the left side

277

and how you like the smell of gasoline.

278

You always set the thermostat at 26 Celsius.

279

Is there anything else you want to tell me?

280

Not really.

281

I said I won't hide anything from you. I will never lie to you.

282

Lies are just like anesthetics

283

because the truth always hurts.

284

But if you already know the truth,

285

lies are more like salt in your wound, which makes you want to put an end to everything,

286

no matter what it takes,

287

just as long as you can end it.

288

Hello, Jialin, it's me.

289

You said you would do anything to make up for what you did.

290

There is something you can do.

291

- Miss Wang, it's your first time on a show like this, right?

- Yes.

292

Don't be nervous. I might ask you three to five questions.

293

It will take less than twenty minutes.

294

- Are you ready?

- Yes.

295

- Okay, let's begin.

- Okay.

296

- Camera, ready?

- Yes.

297

- Everybody ready?

- Ready.

298

Let's begin.

299

Hello, everyone, welcome to our show.

300

Today, we have an entertainment journalist from New City Focus.

301

- Wang Xuan, nice to see you.

- Hello, Miss Zhang.

302

Hello, everyone, my name is Wang Xuan.

303

So, you're an entertainment journalist. Society actually

304

still has some prejudice against your work.

305

How do you see your work?

306

Personally, I think fame is

307

something to endure if you are receiving a benefit from it.

308

Now, there are so many celebrities, including actors,

309

who, when they have a new movie,

310

a new book, or a new store to promote,

311

actively seek out exposure.

312

They want to get the support of the media,

313

but they also don't want us to tell their private stories.

314

I think that's unfair. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

315

As media, we simply amplify the facts.

316

I've never thought there was something wrong with my work or that I should be ashamed of it.

317

So, we all know you recently reported a story

318

that was a big hit on the Internet. It almost set a new record.

319

As a journalist myself, I think there's one thing that's hard to see nowadays.

320

Your report

321

didn't just give us gossip,

322

but it also exposed the company involved

323

and the corruption in their operations.

324

So, how do you make a story a popular hit while maintaining its substance?

325

First, thank you for the compliment.

326

I think, although I am an entertainment journalist,

327

I am principled in my work.

328

I never report fake news, or print it without checking the source.

329

I hope the stories I write will be useful to society

330

and will help the public to know the truth,

331

including the truth about companies that lie to consumers

332

or to the general public. I want people to know all of it.

333

For example?

334

For example...

335

Ciel Cosmetics.

336

- Ciel?

- Yes.

337

Why do you say that?

338

After some research I did...

339

As everyone knows, Ciel is an up-and-coming brand.

340

They market mostly to young people.

341

They always brand themselves as 100% natural, that they never use any animal testing.

342

Based on my research, that's not true at all.

343

Subbing and Timing brought to you by the Love Knot Team @viki.com

344

Why are you knocking? Just come in.

345

What happened?

346

I want to talk.

347

Then talk.

348

I thought about it for a very long time.

349

I realized I still love Jialin.

350

Pipi, stop playing. You are not convincing at all.

351

I'm serious.

352

What do you mean?

353

All the time we've spent together... Were you faking it the whole time?

354

It's my fault.

355

During my loneliest moment,

356

I used your love to cure my wound.

357

I'm sorry.

358

Stop lying. Relationships go both ways.

359

The way you care for me is obvious when we're together.

360

Helan, you are perfect,

361

but you are not Jialin.

362

You are not human. We can never be together.

363

I'm not human...

364

Great, I respect your decision.

365

Tell me again. Look me in the eyes and say it.

366

Say you don't love me.

367

Say it.

368

I don't love you.

369

Say it one more time.

370

I don't love you. I don't love you! Is that good enough?

371

Please, take off the Pearl of Charm.

372

Are you sure you want to do this?

373

You said you would help me.

374

- Hello?

- Director Qianhua, something happened!

375

Check your computer. I sent you a video link.

376

They are not what they claim to be.

377

I did my research. I went to their factory and found they took animals' eyes

378

and injected experimental makeup.

379

I was really shocked by that.

380

Of course, I couldn't believe it at first.

381

- So, for two months I kept investigating.

- Where did these photos come from?

382

Director Qianhua, the photos were probably fabricated.

383

But we are receiving protesting calls from PETA already.

[People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals]

384

Also, the Bureau of Quality Supervision wants us to go in for questioning tomorrow.

385

Prepare some data for me. I will go there myself.

386

Director Qianhua, a lot of our non-toxic products include unusual special ingredients.

387

I'm afraid humans won't understand that.

388

What if they ask us to reveal the ingredients and the formula?

389

Go destroy the formula data.

390

But if we destroy that, how can we clear up this scandal?

391

Our reputation is not that important.

392

We probably wouldn't be able to clarify this anyway, but the formula can never be revealed.

393

So do as I say.

394

Okay.

395

It's not for my own fame or exposure.

396

As a journalist who believes in justice,

397

I need the world to know the truth.

398

Everyone has a right to know the truth.

399

Why do you say that?

400

Through some of my research,

401

- Brother.

- ...as everyone knows Ciel, is an up-and-coming brand...

402

This is Zhao Song.

403

Don't be so formal.

404

I'm calling to tell you that

405

you should watch more TV these days.

406

Some of our old friends are in trouble.

407

Like Longhua and Qianhua.

408

What do you mean I should cut you some slack? I don't really know what's going on, either.

409

But I did some analysis.

410

These people in trouble all have something in common.

411

They are all Southern Clan members who support Helan Jingting.

412

Okay.

413

...including some who are lying to their customers...

414

I want people to know the truth.

415

Hello?

416

Hello, is this Guan Pipi?

417

Yes, it is.

418

I'm Fang Jingxue.

419

Can you confirm the report?

420

Excuse me, your company always claimed to be environmentally friendly.

421

What harm will this scandal do to your company?

422

The company still has not revealed the formula. Does this mean you guys admit your product is faulty?

423

Damn you, corporations, hurting these animals!

424

Not Safe! Not Safe!

425

Back up!

426

For all the trouble this report has caused,

427

I feel deeply sorry.

428

What are you talking about? Explain everything first.

429

Not Safe! Not Safe! Not Safe!

430

The company's CEO has been summoned by the Bureau of Quality Supervision.

431

At the time of this report, Ciel Company's product base formula still has not been revealed.

432

I never thought Guan Pipi would be like this.

433

Is it because Mr. Helan did something wrong?

434

Lord Helan doing something wrong?

435

Impossible. He can't love her enough.

436

It's strange.

437

What's strange about this? Clearly, she's just treating Lord Helan as a back-up.

438

- Don't talk nonsense.

- What part is nonsense?

439

Pipi is not like that.

440

Then tell me what she is like. Tell me.

441

This is crossing the line! If you break up, break up.

442

Why do you need to drag the ex-boyfriend along with you?

443

What was Tao Jialin doing there?

444

You're asking me? I want to ask that Tao Jialin.

445

She asked him to come, so he had to come?

446

Also, did you know anything about this?

447

- How would I know about it?

- Xiuxian.

448

Sorry, Miss Xin.

449

Lord Helan is really heartbroken this time.

450

After she left, Lord Helan locked himself in his room and has refused to eat anything.

451

We've never seen him like this before.

452

Lord Helan?

453

Yes, we will go there right now.

454

Something happened to Qianhua's company.

455

Let's go.

456

Did Lord Helan send you here?

457

Lord Helan said something went wrong and told us to come check on you.

458

What is wrong?

459

Are you okay? Is there anything we can do?

460

I'm all right. Send him my thanks.

461

So, what happened exactly? There is no way your company would experiment on animals.

462

Things happened too quickly, I didn't have time to investigate it.

463

This is all over the news. Why didn't you host a press conference to clear things up?

464

I would have, but some of the products are based on a Fox Clan secret formula.

465

It's harmless to humans.

466

If this was allowed to escalate, it might have become public. That would hurt the whole clan.

467

But this is too costly for you.

468

This company means a lot to me, but I can't risk the lives of our people.

469

I have to close the company before things get too out of hand.

470

Who could have done something like this?

471

Have you offended anyone recently?

472

The news was reported by a journalist called Wang Xuan. She interviewed me before.

473

I remember she works at the same magazine as Miss Guan.

474

Wang Xuan? We have met her before.

475

- When?

- At the auction.

476

Oh, now I remember. She went to the hospital to find you.

477

And you met her at the auction, right?

478

When she interviewed me, it was not pleasant.

479

And I played a trick on her, which probably made her angry.

480

So she just faked the news to set you up?

481

Based on my observation, she doesn't have the nerve.

482

- Unless...

- Unless someone is supporting her.

483

It can't be her...

484

- Who?

- Guan Pipi.

485

You said they work at the same magazine, right?

486

This means they are probably collaborating.

487

For fame, she used Guan Pipi to get close to Lord Helan.

488

Not only did she break his heart, she also dragged you into this.

489

Don't rush to judgment.

490

You don't know. She broke up with Lord Helan to get back with her ex.

491

Guan Pipi... broke up with Lord Helan?

492

I told you Guan Pipi was not right for him. Every Huiyan before her was great.

493

- Why is this one—

- Xiuxian.

494

Stop, I know it's not her fault.

495

It must be her! Think about it.

496

- She and Wang Xuan—

- You have no idea what is going on!

497

She has her reasons.

498

What reasons? Tell me.

499

Xiuxian, stop guessing. I'm going to check on this Wang Xuan.

500

What is there to check?

501

Qianhua? Qianhua, what's wrong?

502

Nothing.
