(Guardians of the Dafeng)

(Episode 34)

Let's go eat something nice.

Forget about the pickles.

Come on.

Dafeng is not worth it.

Make way!

(His Majesty has sent Lord Xu to Chuzhou for a case investigation.)

(He'll depart by today.)

(Actually, he looked for you every day.)

(It's just that Noble Consort Chen stopped him from entering the palace.)

Xu Qi An!

Xu Qi An!

Xu Qi An!

Xu Qi An!

- Lord Xu! - Where are you?

Lord Xu.

Look over there. Is she calling for you?

Xu Qi An!

Is that Her Highness?

Xu Qi An!

Your Highness!

Xu Qi An! I'm here!

I'm over here!

What are you doing here?

What did you say?

What? I can't hear you!

I can't hear you! Raise your voice!

Turn around!

Turn the ship around!

You want me to go there?

All right! I'll go and find you!

Wait for me?

Lord Xu, I'm afraid it's hard to turn around with the wind.

What are you doing?

Don't move! Wait for me!

- Stop the ship! - Someone!

- Stop the ship! - Keep the sail!

That's dangerous!

Hey! Why are you rowing the boat?

Do you even know how to row?

No! Hurry up!

Hey! Stop moving! Wait for me!

Everyone, obey my order! Stop the ship for 15 minutes!

Yes, sir!

Get out of the way!

Lord Xu!

Lord Xu!

Lord Xu!

You're a silly guy.

What do you want to tell me? Go ahead.

I thought you had something to tell me.

Didn't you wave at me and tell me to head to you?

I thought you had something to tell me.

Didn't you tell me to come here?

Shouldn't you be the one who has something to tell me?

Why did you row the boat when you had nothing to tell me?

Why did you swim here when you had nothing to tell me?

You...

I have nothing to tell you.

Seems like I was overthinking it.

I was too abrupt as well.

I'll go ashore, then.

I have to head back as well.

May you have a smooth journey.

Thanks for your blessing.

The presiding official has ordered us to stop for 15 minutes!

- Yes! - Drop the anchor!

Your Highness,

just now,

I've issued my first military order as a presiding official.

If so, I guess I have no choice but to stay here a little longer.

All right.

Get up here.

Wait.

Wipe yourself dry.

Thank you.

Your Highness,

have you lost a lot of weight lately?

You're talking for the sake of talking.

You're the direct opposite, huh?

Seems like you had a great time without me.

That's not true. Your Highness, I couldn't sleep or eat well without you.

Mother,

did she make things difficult for you?

How could that be?

I'm the presiding official, you know?

No matter what, Her Highness still has to...

Are you dumb?

You knew that I was placed under house arrest.

Why did you insist on looking for me?

There's no point in obtaining this title if I can't see you.

I don't understand.

What do you mean by that?

Your Highness, actually, I have something to tell you.

Go ahead.

You see, I...

Actually...

What?

Actually,

do you still remember

that encounter?

Which encounter?

The one at Linhu House.

Linhu House?

Just tell me already.

Your Highness, if you don't mind,

from now on,

I can be your friend.

I don't want to be just a friend.

I don't want to be just a friend.

Your Highness,

me too.

I don't want to be just a friend either.

Be careful!

I'll wait for your return!

All right!

(Dear Master, )

(things are getting out of hand.)

(A few days ago, the celestial realm's Venerable came to Dafeng.)

(They intended to take Xu Qi An with them.)

(At the same time, I lost all contact with that person.)

(The explosion at Sangbo Lake, the birth of Shen Shu, )

(everything was a plot hatched by that person)

(in order to take Xu Qi An away and steal the National Fortune.)

(Our alliance was a joke from the start.)

(It was a plot he had been brewing for a long time.)

(Luckily, he didn't manage to get his way.)

(It seems as if the Imperial Astronomer and the Venerable)

(have reached an understanding.)

(The two and Emperor Yuanjing have achieved a meticulous balance.)

(I suppose Emperor Yuanjing must be in a dilemma now.)

(He already found out about the National Fortune in Xu Qi An's body, )

(yet he couldn't do anything about it.)

(He can't get rid of Xu Qi An and retrieve the National Fortune from him.)

(Judging from that, )

(at least Xu Qi An is safe for the time being.)

(Shen Shu will be safe as well.)

(Wei Yuan was the one who surprised me the most.)

(After the battle at Yunzhou, )

(all three bases of the Kui Tribe in Dafeng)

(were toppled by the Gold Guardians.)

(Four Gold Guardians were seriously wounded.)

(We've lost all of our forces in Dafeng.)

(As for why that man wanted to steal the National Fortune)

(and the next step that he'd take, )

(I have no idea at all.)

(But right now, )

(the only thing I can confirm)

(is that the mastermind won't give up that easily.)

Search the area thoroughly! Search every nook and cranny!

Yes, sir!

What are you guys doing?

Search the area!

Such audacity!

This is the Three Departments' meeting room! Why are you guys here?

Lord Xu said he had no comment.

Does Xu Qi An know where we are?

Minister, this is the Three Departments' meeting room.

How dare you do such a thing, then?

Lord Xu told us to proceed like usual.

Xu Qi An is treating us unfairly.

Isn't he afraid that we will criticize him in court?

Lord Xu said that he was afraid of that.

He's afraid, huh?

You guys better scram, then!

Although Lord Xu is afraid of you guys,

he doesn't care.

You!

My Lord, please raise your feet.

Please.

Sorry for bothering you guys.

You two, keep guard over here.

Yes, sir!

This is too brazen of him!

What exactly is Xu Qi An up to?

My Lord, we've already searched the entire ship.

There's no hidden personnel.

There's none?

Search the ship thoroughly again.

Search the rooms of every official!

Yes, My Lord!

That shouldn't be the case.

Xu Qi An, you better don't go overboard.

I've already told you before.

I'm the only Gold Guardian joining you guys on this voyage.

That's definitely impossible.

Lord Wei said he would send 12 Gold Guardians to escort us.

Why did he only send you here?

I see now.

I was wondering why Foster Father insisted on making me join you all.

- Nangong... - 12th.

12th?

In terms of seniority, I joined the Night Guardians for the shortest time.

My rank is 12th.

My Lord, we've already searched all the rooms. There's no one.

Lady Nangong, I'll be depending on you for this...

(Chuzhou Waterway Map)

Relay my order.

Order our men to take shifts and proceed full speed ahead.

I want to reach Chuzhou in five days.

Yes, My Lord.

Lord Chu has issued an order! Proceed full speed ahead!

Yes, sir!

Deputy General Xie.

Why the rush?

The battle in the north is critical. There's no time to waste.

It's not the first day we're experiencing that either.

Waiting for a few more days won't affect it.

I lost it on the deck.

Let's search the area thoroughly.

This can't be.

Bun Stealer?

What are you doing here?

What are you doing here?

Give it back.

I found it on the floor.

You have such a vile personality.

I never expected you to be one of the Night Guardians.

I also never expected someone unruly as you

to be a member of Lord Huai's Residence.

How did you know?

- Was I right? - Did you trick me?

I don't need to.

The Night Guardians didn't bring you here.

As for the Three Departments,

they aren't daring enough to bring female counterparts with them.

The only possibility is that Chu Xiang Long brought you here.

And, the only ladies he can bring from the capital to Chuzhou

are members of Lord Huai's Residence.

In this case,

your mistress must be the spouse of Lord of the North.

I've heard of her unparalleled beauty long ago.

People call her the No. 1 Beauty of the capital.

Is she on the ship?

Please introduce me to her.

You're just a Silver Guardian. How dare you expect to see Her Highness?

You're so unruly.

I'll report you to the presiding official.

What a coincidence.

I'm Xu Qi An, the presiding official of this case.

You're the presiding official?

How dare you not greet the presiding official?

This is infuriating.

One of the Night Guardians made me angry.

Who is it?

It's the guy I met before.

He's actually the presiding official.

You mean Xu Qi An?

Do you know him?

Not only did he crack the tax case and the case at Sangbo Lake,

but he also repelled the celestial realm's dharma statue.

His Majesty granted him the title of Viscount.

That's how he became the presiding official of this diplomatic mission.

What has he done to you?

He offended me.

He...

He made me shout

"My Lord, I know my fault now!" 100 times

on the deck!

How dare you guys laugh? Stop laughing!

Once we arrive at Chuzhou,

I'll definitely make him regret it.

This is so infuriating.

- Who's there? - Me.

I need to speak to you. Are you asleep?

I am.

I'm glad that you're awake.

Do you need anything?

Lady of the North is on the ship.

Chu Xiang Long is escorting Her Highness to Chuzhou.

She's joining the diplomatic mission in an attempt to conceal herself.

I'm the presiding official. Why haven't I received any updates?

His Majesty already told Lord Wei about this.

However, it was merely an oral edict. There was no written proof.

I thought it was insignificant. That's why I didn't tell you about it.

Lady of the North never left the capital for two decades.

Now, she's joining our diplomatic mission.

You call this insignificant?

Her Highness has a noble status.

It's best for her to keep a low profile when traveling north like this.

There's nothing surprising about it.

Since Her Highness has a noble status,

why don't they send the Imperial Guards to escort her?

Let's take a step back and assume. Even if we have to travel together,

government ships are filled with all kinds of people.

Why didn't they prepare another ship for her?

Why did they make her stay at the bottom of the ship?

Are you saying...

Coincidentally, Chu Xiang Long ordered them to make haste.

If the battle in the north isn't critical,

that means they're escorting Her Highness as fast as they can.

What do you mean by that?

Something's off about the Lady of the North.

We will encounter danger soon.

For example, an ambush targeting her.

It's an ambush!

It's the Kui Tribe!

Protect His Lordship!

Hurry and get ashore!

All right. Go and help them out.

Be careful.

The Three Departments were able to survive

all thanks to the Night Guardians.

But we have sustained

heavy casualties.

I'm afraid we cannot advance any further.

Let's change our route.

Let's travel by land.

Find the nearest inn

and help the wounded to settle down first.

Xu Qi An told us this before.

Her Highness joined the diplomatic mission in secret.

Since they're hiding her tracks, something must be amiss.

He already told the Three Departments to prepare for the worst.

Even so, we were still caught by surprise...

Enough. I know you're complaining about me.

I was the one who rejected his suggestion to change the route.

Otherwise, the situation would certainly not be like this.

It's too late to say this now.

During the battle,

Chu Xiang Long disregarded our safety

and avoided the pursuit of the Kui Tribe together with Her Highness.

Xu Qi An went after them alone as their reinforcement.

And, he hasn't returned yet.

It was our fault.

The Kui Tribe came prepared.

I wonder if Silver Guardian Xu is able to rescue Her Highness.

Split up!

(Tian Lang)

Tian Lang?

General Chu.

Long time no see.

General Chu.

Tell me who the Lady of the North is,

and I'll spare you a painful death.

Who told you that the Lady of the North was here?

You guys fell for it.

If I do kill the Lady of the North by accident,

when the Lord of the North finds out,

I'll tell him that you watched her die without helping.

All these servants can die for Her Highness's sake.

This is an honorable death for them!

(This is bad. He plans to use the Kui Tribe to kill us.)

What's the point of keeping you alive?

The Lady of the North has unparalleled grace and beauty.

And, she's actually hiding herself among the servants.

I assume she's wearing

a magical weapon to conceal her presence.

Fine!

Strip them off their clothing!

I finally made it.

I was too late, huh?

The academy? Magic spells?

It's a shame that you cannot hurt me with that.

Who said I was trying to hurt you with that?

Now,

it's your turn.

Attack!

Who exactly are you?

I'm one of the Night Guardians.

I'm Xu Qi An.

Xu Qi An?

You're awake.

The water pouch is beside you. Drink when you're thirsty.

Lord Xu, did you save me?

That's right.

Impossible. Xu Qi An isn't as powerful as you.

Speak! Who exactly are you? Why are you impersonating him?

That's a logical suspicion. You're not dumb.

It's just that you move too slow.

I have this!

It contains 20 gold seeds and the princess's name.

I found this purse often when I was in the capital.

There are a total of 36 of them in my drawer to date.

Now, you believe me, right?

Lady of the North.

What did you say?

What Lady of the North?

It has been almost ten days since we left the capital.

It's tough pretending to be a maidservant, right?

It was tough for me to tolerate your demeanor as well.

However, these beads of yours are interesting.

Not only can it conceal one's presence, but it can also alter one's looks.

But did you forget who won the trinket for you?

That will be 600 taels.

Thank you.

Are you the one who threw the arrow in the pot?

I saw your beads long ago when I was in the capital.

If this happens again,

I'll never spare you!

Initially, I thought you were the mistress of a high-ranking official.

Until the day you appeared on the ship as Her Highness's maidservant.

Her Highness might be wealthy enough not to care about the 600 taels.

But you were a maidservant. Why did you need these beads?

To change your presence and looks?

That doesn't make sense at all.

The only possibility is that you're the true Lady of the North.

And, the so-called Lady of the North was just a ruse.

I'm not.

I'm telling you this

because

we have a long way to go.

I hope you can cooperate with me...

Since Xu Qi An had rescued Her Highness,

why didn't he rush to meet up with us?

He has plenty of witty ideas.

Since he hasn't returned yet,

I suppose he intends to investigate the case

in Chuzhou secretly together with Her Highness.

The diplomatic mission is in the open

while he's in the shadows.

Therefore, if anyone asks about his whereabouts,

I hope the Three Departments will cooperate with us.

Xu Qi An?

You're awake.

The water pouch is beside you. Drink it when you're thirsty.

By the way, I've tied you up last night

to prevent any radical actions.

What do you think? Will you try to run away again?

Scram.

Do you want some?

You...

What are you doing?

What are you doing?

I was washing my face.

I was keeping an eye on you. You might run away again.

Where can I escape to?

Hurry and keep your things...

Are they gone?

Where are your things?

Here.

The journey is long and difficult.

And, since you're not cooperating with me,

I have no choice but to let you suffer a little.

In!

In!

In!

- Forget it. - Have you lost your mind?

Did it stop working?

It's not broken.

(Xu Qi An, have you arrived at Chuzhou?)

Not yet.

Something cropped up on my way there. I'll arrive there later.

How's your side of things?

I've been investigating the borders of Chuzhou for three days and nights.

I haven't found the origin of the holocaust case yet.

(But something was amiss.)

I encountered a small group of Kui Tribe cavalry at the borders.

Using the Shared Memory Magic, I found out

that they had no idea about the holocaust case.

I know. The case isn't as simple as it seems.

How would you know?

On my way here, I interrogated one of the leaders of Kui Tribe.

A sage must be sincere,

so does an ordinary man.

Tell me. What secret is the Lady of the North hiding?

Why is the Kui Tribe after her?

I don't know.

My master sent me here.

Who's your master?

The strongest Green-Faced of the Kui Tribe,

Jili Zhigu.

Last question.

Was the Kui Tribe

behind the holocaust case?

It has nothing to do with the Kui Tribe.

The Kui Tribe has nothing to do with the holocaust case.

What?

What other forces

are capable of such violent deeds, then?

Have you made any other discoveries there?

There's one more thing.

Logically speaking,

if a region experiences war, the prices of food and goods will skyrocket.

But I've investigated the food price in Chuzhou

and the surrounding counties.

(Although there were changes to the price, )

(they didn't fluctuate much.)

I know that too.

If so, there are no other discoveries from me for now.

(Xu Qi An, I...)

Now, I'm starting to suspect whether or not the holocaust case did occur.

I have no idea how to continue my investigation.

(By the way, how's the progress of the task I've assigned to you?)

You asked me to uphold justice and recruit righteous people.

Now...

We have close to 100 members.

100?

That's nothing.

You should've inquired about my name, you know?

I did keep a low profile in the capital of Dafeng.

(But when I'm in Chuzhou, all will answer my call.)

That's not enough.

(You have to work harder.)

(Can you be serious for once?)

What? Are 100 members not enough for you?

Xu Qi An, what exactly are you up to?

(Xu Qi An?)

Xu Qi An?

Xu Qi An?

Master, how should we proceed with the investigation, then?

He didn't give me a solution either.

Forget it.

Let's continue to grow our forces and recruit more people.

Dear heroes,

corrupt officials are rampant in Chuzhou.

They oppress the common people.

Everyone, please join us in rooting out the corrupt officials

and saving the people.

We shall serve Sparrow Heroine with our lives!

We shall serve Sparrow Heroine with our lives!

I'm Li Yuan Hua, general of the assault battalion under Lord of the North!

I'm here to receive the diplomatic mission under Lord Huai's order!

Xu Qi An, the presiding official, please come out!

We were attacked by the Kui Tribe at Huangyou County.

Lord Xu has returned to the capital due to his injuries.

Where's Her Highness?

Her Highness was attacked by the Kui Tribe. She has gone missing.

Why didn't you guys search for her?

Our mission is to investigate the holocaust case,

not to protect Her Highness.

Where's Chu Xiang Long? I need to verify the incident with him!

He's dead.

(Sanhuang County)

Take a look.

Take a look.

Xu Qi An.

How dare you knock me out?

How dare you bully me? I'll show you!

Miss, please spare me!

I'm just an ordinary physician!

Lord Xu hired me as he said you were unconscious for quite some time.

Farewell.

Mister, are you okay?

I'm truly sorry about this.

Mister, are you okay?

Why don't I hire a physician for you?

Mind you, I'm a physician myself!

Sorry about that. She loves to beat people up.

I'm truly sorry about this.

Xu Qi An, where exactly are we?

We're inside Chuzhou City. We're in Sanhuang County.

Why did you bring me to Sanhuang County?

To try their famous Sanhuang Chicken.

Isn't it obvious? We're here to investigate a case.

You can investigate it yourself.

Why did you bring me with you?

What if the Kui Tribe finds you if I didn't bring you with me?

- Why are they looking for you? - Why are they looking for me?

- How should I know? - How should I know?

Wait, you have no idea?

If so, why did you pretend to be one of us and head to Chuzhou in secret?

Who said I was heading to Chuzhou in secret?

I was heading there on an official trip.

Chu Xiang Long said I was a noble lady.

He wanted me to avoid making contact with you all.

(Her breathing remains unchanged.)

(Seems like she's not lying.)

(She truly has no idea.)

Xu Qi An, what exactly are you up to?

I suggest you release me as soon as possible.

Once I've arrived at Chuzhou,

I can hide the truth from Lord of the North.

I will not hold your rudeness against you.

(She's lying.)

Sorry. I can't release you yet.

But I won't harm you either.

You're in danger now.

Although I don't know why,

the Kui Tribe is out there looking for you.

I have a case to investigate. I have no time to look after you.

That's why

I'm giving you two choices.

First choice, stay tied up and wait for my return.

Second choice, enjoy a wonderful meal,

take a great bath,

and wait for my return.

Jin Lian, are you there?

I have something to ask you.

(That's the gist of it.)

(Besides certain powerful magical weapons, )

(people with peculiar energy patterns cannot be kept in the Jade Mirror.)

All right. Understood.

Thanks. I'll buy you tea next time.

I guess liquor is fine too.

(People with peculiar energy patterns, huh?)

(She's actually staying put.)

I'm Xu Xin Nian of the Yunlu Academy.

Miss, your musical skills are unparalleled.

Thank you, mister.

Please have some tea.

A student of Yunlu Academy, huh?

This is interesting.

This is interesting indeed.

You might be an educated individual,

but you're enjoying yourself in such a place.

Why don't I come up with the first half of a couplet?

Miss, you can come up with the second half.

Green-clad servants.

Shall serve with their lives.

Are you Xu Qi An, the Silver Guardian?

Do you know me?

Of course I know who you are.

Not only are you a great detective,

but you're also one of Dafeng's most talented poets.

You were even more formidable when you were in Yunzhou.

You stood against tens of thousands of rebel troops yourself.

(Tens of thousands?)

(Who was the one who exaggerated my tale?)

Let's cut the empty talk. You should get up first.

So, what's the situation in Chuzhou lately?

Did a large-scale battle occur here?

I haven't heard of that.

However, that reminded me of one thing.

It was pretty strange.

What is it?

I served

an old merchant recently.

He used to do business all over Chuzhou.

He said this after he got drunk.

He said the official roads of Xikou County and the three counties under it

were blocked off.

(Was I too late?)

Mr. Xu, why are you staring out the window?

Is it because I'm not pretty enough?

Green-clad servants.

Shall serve with their lives.

Let me ask you something.

When was this place unsealed?

My Lord,

Xikou County was never sealed off in the first place.

What do you mean by unsealed?
