(Guardians of the Dafeng)

(Episode 24)

- Where did he go? - I don't know.

How can a Silver Guardian get two Copper Guardians to find him?

Xu Qi An!

Ning Yan!

He didn't take this.

Ning Yan!

Ning Yan!

Xu Qi An.

Ning Yan.

Ning Yan!

Ning Yan!

Ning Yan!

It has been confirmed that the intendant of Yunzhou, Song Chang Fu,

colluded with the Wizard God Sect,

smuggling tax money to fund rebel troops.

The Silver Guardian Xu Qi An single-handedly uncovered the conspiracy,

led an assault on the rebels,

and recovered nearly 150,000 taels of tax money.

He foiled the Wizard God Sect's conspiracy,

captured the remnants of the rebels,

but fell in an ambush and died in the line of duty.

In honor of his loyalty, bravery, and dedication,

I humbly beseech Your Majesty to grant a posthumous title for Xu Qi An.

That is all from me, Wei Yuan.

Xu Qi An was a rare talent.

Such a pity.

Minister Wei wishes to request a posthumous title for him.

What do you all think?

Your Majesty, Xu Qi An made significant contributions in this battle.

I believe he deserves a reward.

Your Majesty, I oppose this.

While Xu Qi An did contribute to solving the case,

let us not forget that he was of humble origins.

At most, we can grant his family more compensation.

How can there be a reason for him to be ennobled?

I urge Your Majesty to reconsider.

Your Majesty, Vice Minister Xu has a valid point.

Xu Qi An was merely a Silver Guardian.

Dying in the line of duty was his obligation.

If even someone like him can be granted a noble title posthumously,

would it not mean that even ants could stand alongside the noblemen?

I believe such a precedent must not be set.

My fellow colleagues, don't you think so?

Indeed.

You are right.

How can we do this?

This reward violates proper order.

- Right? - Yes.

It must not be allowed.

Lord Wei.

Xu Qi An is just a Silver Guardian.

Reward his family generously for his death...

You...

You...

You...

Your Majesty.

Wei Yuan's violence in court

is an act of defiance against Your Majesty and the laws.

I beg Your Majesty to issue a decree to execute him!

Why are you laughing?

Your Majesty, seeing you laugh made me laugh.

Foster Father.

Foster Father.

Silver Guardian Xu's body has been returned.

As per your instructions, it has been sent to the Xu family.

Rou.

Within three days, I want

a detailed map of Wizard God Sect's defensive positions in the southwest.

After the autumn harvest,

I will

crush the Wizard God Sect...

no matter the cost.

(The Memorial Tablet of Beloved Son, Xu Qi An)

Fortunately,

it's not the year end yet,

and the old man in the east city has not returned to his hometown.

Otherwise,

I wouldn't know who to turn to for help.

Ning Yan has been away from home for so long.

He's exhausted.

He deserves some rest.

Ling Yue.

Help your mother back to her room to rest.

I'll keep watch here.

No,

I want to stay here with Ning Yan.

Madam.

You haven't had a proper rest in days.

Let me help you to your chamber.

You've always been cunning.

Are you teasing us again?

Listen up,

don't pretend to be dead.

You just want to trick us into shedding tears again.

Did Ning Yan leave no final words?

My condolences.

Ning Yan

passed away at such a young age.

Such a pity.

Such a pity.

Here are some regards from the colleagues from the yamen.

Lord Wei instructed that

if you ever face difficulties,

you can go to the Night Guardians directly to look for him.

No need for formalities.

Many thanks to Lord Wei.

Is he really gone just like that?

Miss, what are you doing?

I just want to confirm again.

He wrote to me when he was in Yunzhou.

He said once the stolen tax money was recovered,

I wouldn't need to go to Jingzhao Prefecture anymore.

Unexpectedly, the tax money was recovered,

but he wouldn't return alive...

Everyone,

let us

make arrangements to lay Ning Yan to rest as soon as possible.

Let's wait a little longer.

Ci Jiu...

Ci Jiu hasn't returned yet.

Just a little while.

We won't wait for him.

We should lay him to rest.

Quick, stop that cat! It might cause his corpse to reanimate!

Xu Qi An, wake up.

(Where am I?)

(Why is it so noisy outside?)

(Who is calling me?)

Lord Wei?

Keep up.

Yes, My Lord!

Where is this?

The Battle of Linyuan Pass.

Who are you?

Who am I?

Who am I?

How did I end up at the Battle of Linyuan Pass?

The Battle of Linyuan Pass.

The Battle of Linyuan Pass.

What is it?

You told me that.

I said that?

Who am I?

You are a big

idiot.

I remember now.

Master, I was joking earlier.

What is that?

This is

within his world of memories.

His?

Who is he?

This

is him.

Get out!

Leave.

Get out!

Get out!

Get out!

Get out!

That...

This...

Go away.

His body is reanimated!

His body is reanimated!

Water...

I need water...

I'm parched.

Ning Yan.

Do you have any last words left unsaid?

Or do you have any unfulfilled wishes?

Last words?

This isn't reanimation. He has a heartbeat.

Qi Observation shows signs of life.

- He's truly alive. - Then...

Xu Qi An is back alive?

Ning Yan.

Ning Yan!

Ning Yan!

- Ning Yan. - Second Uncle.

I cried for nothing!

I'm fine.

Ning Yan.

Foster Father.

He floated along the canal for over 10 days.

He can't be left unburied for long.

Tell his family

to handle the burial.

Foster Father, Xu Qi An is not dead.

Could this all be a dream?

Why would I have such a strange dream?

Hello?

Xu Ning Yan, have you figured out that half-line of poetry yet?

Almost.

You promised to complete it once the case was resolved.

Ten days have passed. Where have you been?

- Why didn't you reply to my messages? - I was dead.

Xu Ning Yan?

Brother.

When did you develop this odd habit of turning into a cat?

Don't sweat the small stuff.

What brings you here?

I heard news of your death today.

I didn't believe it, so I came to check.

As expected, though your body shows no signs of life,

there's a faint trace of your soul.

I merely lent you a hand to reattach your soul early.

Good thing you arrived in time, or I might've been buried alive.

You could say that.

Brother.

You've truly saved my life.

Equivalent exchange. You owe me one.

Of course.

By the way, on your trip to Yunzhou, did you meet No. 2, Li Miao Zhen?

She was not in Yunzhou.

I asked her and she said she was already on her way to the capital.

I was planning to seek her help to crack the case.

If she had helped me, I wouldn't have suffered this misfortune.

It seems fate meant for you to endure this calamity.

No need to send me off.

Oh, right.

What's wrong?

Nice body.

(Night Guardians)

Quickly summon Silver Guardian Xu. Lord Wei wants to see him.

Yes.

You are quite sensible.

Others might think Foster Father has taken in another sworn son.

Why don't you give up your position?

Why didn't you just die in Yunzhou?

He managed to evade it?

How is that possible?

Lord Wei.

Greetings, Lord Wei.

Come here.

I've read Song Ting Feng's report.

It states that after you subdued the rebels, you disappeared

and were presumed killed by the rebels.

But I know your skills, ordinary people couldn't possibly kill you.

I'm not sure what it was, but it certainly wasn't ordinary rebels.

Xu Qi An.

Xu Qi An.

Do you have any last words?

Lord Wei, I don't understand.

Was it Zhu Yang who killed me?

Zhu Yang is busy gathering evidence against the Night Guardians.

How can he possibly kill you?

Foster Father, His Majesty urgently summons you to the palace.

Ministry of War? Zhu Yang?

Indeed, in the three months you were in Yunzhou,

Zhu Yang defected to the Ministry of War.

As the Gold Guardian, he accused the Night Guardians

of corruption and malfeasance.

His Majesty ordered a thorough investigation of the Night Guardians.

Two Gold Guardians, along with over a dozen of Copper Guardians,

have been imprisoned in the Ministry of Justice.

This is a retaliation against me.

Was Lord Wei implicated?

No.

I am relieved.

Foster Father has seized the opportunity,

using Zhu Yang's accusations

to purge the entrenched rot within the Night Guardians.

But if it wasn't Zhu Yang, then what did I see?

An illusion.

An illusion?

The third-ranked master of the Witch God Sect, Master Ling Hui,

specializes in creating lethal illusions.

Once you fall into the trap, your fears, desires, and anger

will transform into a manipulated mirage and you'll be at their mercy.

Master Ling Hui?

Lord Wei.

I'm just an insignificant character.

Why would such a high-ranking Master Ling Hui stoop to attack me?

If they truly wanted to kill you,

you wouldn't still be sitting here.

Lord Wei, I still don't understand.

Don't trouble yourself.

As the Night Guardian, you just have to abide by your duties.

Remember, even if the sky falls, I will hold it for you.

Yes.

By the way, how did you survive?

Because of Master Jin Lian from Tiandi Society.

It was the Resurrection Pill.

You consumed the Resurrection Pill from the Astronomical Bureau.

If anyone asks, that's your answer.

Do you understand?

Got it.

Farewell, Lord Wei.

Wei Yuan, stop with your nonsense.

How could Xu Qi An's miraculous revival be due to the Resurrection Pill?

The Resurrection Pill is priceless.

Even His Majesty desires it but cannot obtain it.

Why would the Astronomical Bureau give it away so casually?

Your Majesty can send someone to inquire at the Astronomical Bureau.

Fine.

Send someone to the Astronomical Bureau.

Also, as for the noble title,

put it on hold for now, and I will reconsider later.

Where is everyone?

They were so close with me, but no one showed up at my funeral.

After the task, let's go drinking.

To the brothel. We must go to a brothel.

Have you heard about it?

Someone saw Xu Qi An just now.

Xu Qi An? That's impossible. He's being buried today.

It can't be Xu Qi An's ghost, right?

Ghosts cannot enter the yamen.

- Gentlemen, may I ask something? - In a bit. We're still talking.

Let me tell you, I never liked Xu Qi An.

He's better at gambling, better at drinking, and better at solving cases.

- Good riddance that he's dead. - Right.

- Who's there? - Show yourself.

Who is this?

Lord...

Lord Xu?

Lord Xu has become a zombie!

Run!

It's a zombie!

Who said it's good I'm dead?

It was him!

It was you!

I'm sorry.

Alright.

Lord Xu.

Aren't you already

dead?

Yes.

I forgot to introduce myself.

I am Xu Qi An's twin brother, Xu Ba An.

By Lord Wei's order, I've come to take over my brother's duties.

Tell me.

Where are the people from Chunfeng Hall?

They seem to have gone to Yunzhou.

Yunzhou?

Why Yunzhou?

Golden Guardian Yang and Silver Guardian Li

heard that your brother died in Yunzhou.

They were overcome with grief and guilt.

At dawn, they gathered everyone from Chunfeng Hall and set off for Yunzhou,

saying that for the sake of your brother,

they would eliminate the rebels and annihilate the Wizard God Sect.

All prepared?

Ning Yan, don't worry!

On this journey to Yunzhou,

we will cleanse the remnants of the Wizard God Sect

and bring peace to your soul!

Lord Yang, everything is ready.

Let's set out.

Robbery, right?

Oppressing the weak, right?

Running amok in the countryside, right?

Abducting men and women?

I'm warning you,

if you do this again, I will break your legs!

We dare not.

Heroine, please spare us.

Get lost.

Okay.

You've got nerves. You still want the sword?

I don't want it.

Mistress, you're amazing!

Of course. Let's go.

Congratulations, Mistress, on your 88th act of valor!

Be precise, it's the 89th.

I took action twice while passing through Wushan.

Mistress, you're truly remarkable.

But Mistress, you are fighting everywhere you go.

When will we reach Dafeng?

We could've reached the capital in three days by riding a flying beast.

But now, we've wasted over three months.

Wasted? This isn't wasting.

This journey was meant for worldly experience.

Worldly experience?

I thought it was for my matter.

It's also for your matter.

Of course, it's also for your matter.

No. 3?

Yes, four of my friends took a boat to Yunzhou.

Help me keep an eye out for them.

I'll describe their appearance and characteristics to you later.

Yunzhou has been unsettled recently.

(I know.)

(They're planning to raid the Wizard God Sect.)

What are they thinking?

If you find them, tell them that Xu Qi An is not dead.

Make sure they don't act recklessly and return to the capital immediately.

I'm about to reach the capital,

but it's okay, I can send a carrier pigeon back for this.

That works.

(By the way, once I'm in the capital, I'll need your help.)

(How can I find you?)

Find me?

Why? You don't want me to find you?

(Don't forget that you owe me one.)

I know.

But the imperial exams are coming up.

(I'm currently in seclusion at the academy, buried in books.)

I can't spare any time.

Why don't you just go to my brother?

Your brother?

My brother, Xu Qi An, is a Night Guardian.

He is far more capable than me,

(brilliant, quick-witted, and exceptionally talented.)

He's also dashing, suave, and full of charm.

Alright. How do I find him?

Just go to the Night Guardians' yamen.

(Ning Yan, Lady Cai Wei is here to see you.)

I've got to go. Take care of this for me.

No. 3?

No. 3?

No. 3 is so unreliable.

We went out of our way to help him, and he's pushing us to someone else.

How rude of him to brush me off like this.

Xu Qi An, is it? When I meet him, I'll teach him a lesson!

Let's go. Find some bandits to vent my anger on.

The 90th time!

Cai Wei, why are you here?

Here you go.

I'm here today for two matters.

First of all,

avoid the Astronomical Bureau for now.

Word of your revival has caused a stir in the Astronomical Bureau.

They all want to find out what's going on.

I managed to hold them off for now.

So, how did you survive?

Because...

Because I took the Resurrection Pill.

The Resurrection Pill.

Do you even know what that is?

The Astronomical Bureau refines only one every 60 years.

It can save a life during calamity.

For anyone above the seventh rank, it can even help them ascend a level.

How did you, a Night Guardian, get this miracle pill?

Because...

I...

Because I...

Because I brought it to you.

This was gifted to me by my teacher when I joined the Astronomical Bureau.

It's been in my pouch for 10 years.

So it's yours.

As for the second matter, this Resurrection Pill

is yours now.

I don't know why either.

My teacher asked me to deliver it to you, so I just complied.

Just remember this favor.

If you ever invent something good like chicken essence again, let me know.

Equivalent exchange.

Of course, and thank you.

This is delicious. Send me the recipe later.

- Sure. - Bye.

Oh, right.

What is this?

After taking the Resurrection Pill,

your body will undergo some minor changes.

Use this medicine. It'll help replenish what you lack.

Bye.

Am I going to lose an arm or a leg?

Lord Wei explained to His Majesty that

the Astronomical Bureau gave Xu Qi An the Resurrection Pill.

It was meant to test you.

It's fine.

Since he asked, just give it to him.

Xu Qi An's revival needed an explanation anyway.

After the Sangbo case, you feigned illness

and let the demon be sent to Yunzhou.

After all this, I suspect Lord Wei has seen through your intentions.

It's fine.

He's also waiting for someone.

It seems that you and Lord Wei have the same views.

But as I saw Xu Qi An running around today,

he seemed to have forgotten everything.

Him?

He will remember.

(Xu Qi An.)

(Do you have any last words?)
