[The Lament of Autumn]

[Episode 16]

[Nanhuai Army Headquarters]

This is the military report we just received.

The Qi Army suddenly attacked

Luanjiang City of the Cheng Army.

The Cheng Army is urgently asking us for help.

But right now, the Qi Army

is at the height of its power.

If we intervene rashly,

we'll get burned.

It's not worth the risk.

I agree.

Our army has recruited many new soldiers

who haven't finished training.

Sending our troops on a long expedition now

is too risky.

It's better to hold our ground

and wait and see.

We can wait and see.

At a time like this,

it's better to be cautious.

Right, right.

Let's wait and see.

[Yu]

What?

Any thoughts?

The Qi Army has deployed tens of thousands of troops.

For a mere Luanjiang City,

why did they make such a big fuss?

You mean...

[Yu]

I think

after the fall of the Cheng Army,

their real target

is our military fortress in Pingzhou.

Pingzhou is in a strategic location, easy to defend and hard to attack.

They won't attack there.

Father.

You're right to remind me.

I'll send more troops there

to prepare for battle.

That's it.

[Xiangxi Hotel]

It's settled then.

Alright?

-Okay. -Okay.

Take care.

Please, no need to see us out.

How did such a beautiful

young girl

turn into a drunkard?

Li,

tell me.

Is Yu Changxuan hiding someone...

in Fengtai?

What drunken nonsense are you talking about?

How is that possible?

Gu and I

go there every day.

Fifth Young Master is just busy with military affairs.

Liar.

If you don't believe me,

how about this?

I'll drive you there to take a look.

When we get there,

you can search from top to bottom, inside and out.

Search thoroughly.

See if you can find anyone.

Alright, stop drinking.

None of you men are any good!

You all bully me!

You all bully me!

You all bully me!

You all bully me!

You all bully me...

You're not allowed to remember me

looking like a mess today.

I'm your brother's woman.

Fifth Young Master.

[Bend and Flow Freely]

Fifth Young Master.

How is her appetite today?

It's quite good.

It looks like Miss Ye

and you

are getting closer and closer.

Why are you so quiet,

not saying a single word?

I just remembered a line from a poem.

"The peach tree blooms so bright and fair.

Its blossoms glow with radiant air.

This maiden goes to her new home.

To bless the house with peace and care."

Nonsense.

These aren't peach blossoms.

No flower is as beautiful as you.

I passed by Hengyuan Silver Shop today

and saw a pair of earrings.

I thought they would suit you perfectly.

Then put them on for me.

Do I look good?

Yes.

Yu Changxuan.

You promised to give me time

and take it slow.

I'll do whatever you say.

Come in.

Fifth Young Master, everything

is ready.

I've prepared a surprise

for you tonight.

Okay.

[Aerial Fireworks]

Tonight's fireworks

are exclusively for you.

Thank you.

[Jinhua Hall]

So beautiful!

They look like flowers. So pretty.

Are you cold?

I'll have the servants fetch a blanket for you.

It's fine.

My shawl is in the living room.

I'll go get it myself.

I'll go with you.

I'll be right back.

[Jinhua Hall]

It's so beautiful.

Yes.

This one is beautiful too.

It's like a dream.

So beautiful.

Yes.

There are so many more.

So pretty.

Look!

[Jinhua Hall]

Go check on Miss Ye

and see why she hasn't come back.

Yes.

Fifth Young Master.

The bleeding has stopped,

but the patient is ice-cold all over.

Keep monitoring the temperature and pulse.

Keep a record.

Yu Changxuan.

I accept your conditions.

Just consider it paying my debt from my past life.

Fifth Young Master, Miss Ye is awake.

However, she is weak right now

and needs to rest.

So all the beautiful moments these past few days

were premeditated.

When I was most hopeful,

you tried to commit suicide.

You tried to take revenge on me in this way.

You won.

Just go.

Whether you choose to live

or die from now on,

let's never see

each other again.

Go.

Young Master Ma,

love

takes two willing hearts.

It can't be forced.

But your appearance

has completely disrupted

the life I had before.

We'd better not have

any more interactions.

Yu Changxuan.

Do you know how much

I hate you right now?

I wish you would

never be reincarnated!

I wish you would go to hell!

Yu Changxuan.

I accept your conditions.

Just consider it paying my debt from my past life.

Go now.

Candied haws!

Sweet candied haws!

Mom, be careful.

The doctor said

you just had surgery,

so you need to rest well to recover.

You're one to talk.

Look at your face.

It's so sallow and pale.

I'm fine.

A couple of days ago,

I caught a cold.

It's all thanks to Hanzhi that Xueting's sentence

was commuted.

Shouldn't we

prepare a nice gift

and thank her in person?

No need.

I mean,

Hanzhi has been

preparing for her graduation exams lately,

so she's been quite busy.

When she has some free time later,

I will thank her properly in person.

I just hope Xueting

can come back soon,

so our family

can be reunited.

Mom.

Let me help you back first.

[Nanhuai Army Headquarters]

After the Qi Army

captured the Cheng Army, their vanguard

moved along the river valley,

advancing rapidly towards Pingzhou.

Fifth Young Master predicted this.

Now it seems

he was exactly right.

Where is the Seventh Brigade stationed now?

According to your orders,

they have already been building fortifications on the front line.

We must drive the Qi Army

back to Luanjiang City!

Commander.

For the battle of Luanjiang City,

please allow me to lead the troops.

Changxuan,

you don't have enough

experience or ability to command troops

on the battlefield.

Then let Mr. Zhang come along

to oversee and supervise.

And there's that batch of new weapons

from Nanhuai Arsenal.

The first batch of equipment

is already in mass production.

With this equipment,

we will definitely win this battle.

Commander,

please give me this chance.

Alright.

I'll have Mr. Zhang and your brother-in-law

go with you.

Remember,

this battle can only be won,

not lost.

Yes!

I will never betray your trust, Commander!

[Break Room]

About going to Luanjiang,

why don't you reconsider?

D-Don't be so hasty.

I know you are

very sad right now,

but you can't put yourself

in danger.

I've already made up my mind.

Say no more.

Is it because of

that Ye Pingjun?

Don't mention that name to me again.

It has nothing to do with me.

What do you mean it has nothing to do with you?

I mean, you...

Fifth Young Master!

Think about it again.

This...

Did you see that?

He's still denying it.

He must have been deeply provoked

by Ye Pingjun

to act like this.

Don't make assumptions about Fifth Young Master.

We both know

he's been waiting for

this chance to prove himself.

Yes, that's one aspect...

I haven't finished talking!

Gu!

I'm telling you.

Nothing can escape

my piercing eyes

that see through everything.

You know?

Keep an eye on him!

I can never

count on you.

What kind of people are they?

[Yu Mansion]

This.

And one more box.

Salvia, goji berries, deer antler,

and bird's nest.

If we don't prepare these now,

in that wretched place,

you won't be able to buy

such good things.

This.

I forgot it.

Hurry and find two cooks.

He doesn't know how to cook.

Okay.

Go find them.

What's wrong?

No need, Baoru.

Mom.

Ginseng, deer antler,

crabs, shrimp legs, and rose dew.

Did you pack them all?

Yes, I did.

And send all the maids and servants

in the mansion with Changxuan.

-Put them all in that box. -I don't need you to worry.

I've thought of everything.

It would be best

if you packed Dad's whip

for him too.

It can serve as a reminder from time to time.

Are you done talking?

Baoru,

that's enough.

He's going to war,

not to be a peddler.

With all these things you're packing,

how is he going to handle them?

Exactly.

What's wrong with caring about my son?

Is it wrong?

This happened so suddenly.

I didn't even have time to prepare.

Even with all these things,

I'm still worried sick.

Didn't I have

Zhang Xiaoxian and Bingwen

go with him?

He usually gets to shine

thanks to other people's achievements.

But true gold must be tested by fire.

This time, he fought for

the opportunity himself.

Let him gain some experience.

I'm still worried.

Mom,

Dad said he'd be accompanied

by a staff officer and a brigade commander.

He's a grown man.

What could go wrong?

I think

Changxuan should go to the battlefield,

gain some experience,

and take a few beatings.

Look at Xiao Beichen from Jiangbei.

He's only a year or two older than him.

-But he's sweeping across the battlef— -Yu Qixuan.

You get so excited

and happy talking about

someone else's brother, huh?

Everyone else's brother is better than yours.

Then go call them brother.

If you look down on him, get out.

Out. Get out.

Don't take up space here.

-Alright. -This... this list...

She doesn't look down on

her own brother.

Exactly.

Is this the Xiao Beichen you mentioned?

Yes.

Thank you, Dad.

You, check this.

What do you want from me?

Miss Ye.

Do you know

that Fifth Young Master Yu is departing early the day after tomorrow

to fight in Luanjiang City?

That has nothing to do with me.

What do you mean it has nothing to do with you?

Your little lover,

Jiang Xueting, has been released.

He's fine now,

so you don't care if Fifth Young Master lives or dies,

do you?

He forced all of this.

And now you want me to care about him.

What kind of logic is that?

Fine.

If you want to blame him

or hate him, suit yourself.

But let me tell you,

Jiang Xueting is a spy in the Yu Army.

Fifth Young Master

didn't force him to do it, did he?

Based on his crimes,

he should have been executed on the spot long ago!

Why is he fine?

That's because Fifth Young Master, for your sake,

personally went to beg the Commander-in-Chief.

In the pouring rain and strong winds,

he knelt for a whole night.

And also,

about your mother's surgery,

you don't really think the hospital

just showed mercy

for no reason, do you?

It was Fifth Young Master.

He drove to Jinping overnight.

To keep that specialist

who could perform the surgery,

he didn't even

get his wounds dressed after being injured in a car accident

on the way there.

When the surgery was finally over,

he wanted to come back and share

the good news with you.

And how did you treat him?

That knife of yours

almost stabbed him in the heart.

I didn't know any of this.

That's because he never wanted you to know

all the things he did for you.

Yes,

he used to be quite a jerk.

He said a lot of

hurtful things to you.

He forced you to stay by his side.

That's because...

he never knew

how to love someone properly.

Miss Ye,

I came to tell you

all this today

not because I'm trying to win your sympathy for Fifth Young Master,

nor because I'm begging you

to love him.

How you choose to treat him

is between the two of you.

I just think

that after everything he's done for you,

you shouldn't be completely in the dark.

It's not fair to him,

and it's not fair to you either.

A telegram came in from the Blacksmith.

The Yu Army has confirmed

that Yu Changxuan

will personally lead the troops to Luanjiang,

with Kuang Bingwen as deputy commander

and Zhang Xiaoxian as staff officer.

Old Yu has finally agreed

to let his precious son

fight a real battle.

Usually, he wishes he could

keep him as his precious boy forever.

But now he's heading to the battlefield,

where bullets and blades don't discriminate.

Whether you're the emperor, a commoner, a prince, or a general,

everyone has only one life.

Commander,

I think

this is a great opportunity

to get rid of Yu Changxuan.

We don't need to make a move.

Someone will do it for us.

We just need to stay here

and wait for the good news.

[Women's Country]

It was Fifth Young Master.

He drove to Jinping overnight.

To keep that specialist

who could perform the surgery,

he didn't even

get his wounds dressed after being injured in a car accident

on the way there.

And how did you treat him?

That knife of yours

almost stabbed him in the heart.

A long time ago,

he already had you in his heart.

He said a lot of

hurtful things to you.

He forced you to stay by his side.

That's because...

he never knew

how to love someone properly.

[Guangyi Gate]

Mighty is the Yu Army!

Excuse me. Please let me through.

Woof. Woof.

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

Woof. Woof.

Woof. Woof.

Woof. Woof.

Woof.

Louder.

Don't you know how to bark?

Woof!

Woof.

That sounds awful.

-Woof! -Woof!

Woof.

Who's not barking?

Woof.

Do it.

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

Not making a sound?

Not making a sound, huh?

Not making a sound?

I'll teach you a lesson!

You little punk!

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

Trying to be a hero?

Give it to me!

Trying to be a hero, huh?

Keep trying!

Don't!

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

Keep trying!

Stop whipping him!

Move!

Not making a sound?

Not making a sound?

Vice Commander!

If you keep whipping him,

he might die!

So be it.

When haven't I

taken responsibility for you?

Beat him to death!

Beat him!

Beat him hard!

Stop.

If you want to be a man,

you must first learn how to be a dog.

Understand?

Looks like those ears of yours

are just for show.

There's no use keeping them.

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

You dare pull the trigger?

Do you have the guts?

I'm gonna die today

or tomorrow anyway.

I might as well fight you to the death!

Stop!

Put the guns down.

Put them down!

Do it. Do it.

Put them down.

Army Commander.

The telegram said

you wouldn't arrive for another 2 or 3 days.

Why are you here...

already?

If I hadn't come early,

would I have gotten to see this little show?

Looks like

you've lived up to my expectations.

Army Commander.

I...

I had good reason...

to punish these soldiers.

They...

were fighting in a group.

Look.

They're all bloody and battered.

If word gets out,

people will say we lack discipline

and have low morale,

which will affect

the reputation of our Yu Army.

So I just...

gave them a small punishment as a warning.

That's not true, Army Commander.

It's Ma Liu, the clerk,

who deducts money from my military pay every time,

calling it a tribute!

I refused,

and he's been torturing me in different ways.

We were really

backed into a corner!

You little brat, you are talking nonsense!

I'm still here.

Are you making decisions for me?

No.

No.

Arrest Zhao Chenghai!

-Yes! -Yes!

Army Commander,

what do you mean by this?

I have confirmed

that Deputy Regiment Commander Zhao Chenghai

has spent years neglecting his duties

and abusing his authority to bully and oppress others.

He has committed various crimes.

And we have both witnesses and physical evidence.

What more do you have to say for yourself?

Army Commander,

you mean this?

I plead guilty.

So,

how will I be punished?

A fine?

The guns and ammunition my uncle donated

could equip a whole regiment,

and I'm just

a deputy regiment commander

who's been enduring all kinds of indignities.

Did I say anything?

Since he has pleaded guilty,

execute him immediately!

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

Execute him?

Absolutely impossible.

No matter how tough the Army Commander is,

he still has to show him some respect.

He's just trying to scare him.

He won't really kill him.

Army Commander,

you're going to execute me?

Do you know who my uncle is?

The food Yu Army eats,

the uniforms they wear,

the bullets they fire—

which of those hasn't been paid for

by our Zhao family?

I just bullied a few little soldiers,

and you want me to be executed?

Then what about all the money

we've poured into this army?

Changxuan.

The Zhao family donates a large amount of military funds

and supplies to our army every year.

His uncle is very influential in the business world.

Also,

he has many connections

in the central government.

It's fine, Brother-in-law.

I know his background...

very well.

Yu Changxuan!

Yu Changxuan, you can't kill me!

Wait a minute!

Wait a minute!

Fifth Young Master.

The Commander-in-Chief called.

This person is to be sent back to Nanhuai.

He wants to interrogate him personally.

I told you they couldn't do anything

to Deputy Regiment Commander Zhao.

Whoever comes is just putting on a show.

They can't do anything to our commander.

In the end, it would still be the same old story.

Execute him first!

Then I'll answer the phone!

Yes!

Yu Changxuan!

Changxuan.

You...

Let me go!

Yu Changxuan, you can't kill me!

Yu Changxuan!

[Auspicious Clouds and Stars]

Let go!

Let go!

The Army Commander actually has the guts?

He actually executed him?

How will he explain this to the Commander-in-Chief?

If anyone in the Yu Army

is bullied and humiliated,

it is a disgrace to the Yu Army,

and a dereliction of my duty.

Starting today,

those days

are over.

Under my command,

military rules are strict,

and rewards and punishments are clear.

Background does not matter,

and rank makes no difference.

Those who distinguish themselves in battle

and those who are loyal, brave, and upright

will be greatly rewarded.

On the other hand!

Anyone who deceives their superiors or subordinates,

or harms their comrades,

just like in this case,

will be executed without mercy!

-Bravo! -Great!
