In Thailand ...
In oversvmt cave ...
12 young boys and football coach their
trapped somewhere in there.
With monsoon season nrt forest end,
and rising water levels,
lper time soon.
The pumped huge amounts of water therefrom.
The problem was that it was as put on a crane and rehearsal and suck out water simultaneously.
While an elite team of international divers, investigations kilometers of oversvmte passenger,
holds the world breath and wondering if ...
In Thailand, there has arisen one one worrisome situation.
... "Can the boys still be alive?"
We came back to pretty s terrible news.
Men s๏ฟฝ...
- How many are dere? - They are all alive.
13, great.
N m is a possible choice be decided. How should the f out of the 12 children ...
Vrt only choice was to use divers.
... in one of the most dangerous diving environment in the world?
Even professional cave divers said it was the spooky finest diving they had ever done. "
One could not see your finger in front of your face before you took on the mask.
A desperate mission starts.
Panic leads normally to instant dd.
"Thai Grotte Redning,"
akkurat H, p "NOVA."
TRANSLATED AND SINKING OF LEOGATE1968
It was a nightmare that captivated the world.
A striking sight of courage and technical bravery, standing in front of the life-threatening dangers.
The mirakulse rescue
of 12 young boys and football coach their
from one of the ddeligste environment in the Earth ...
... in oversvmt cave.
CAVE rescue In THAILAND
Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand.
Well, here we have it, Tham Luang.
It is a popular destination for day-trippers and adventurous facilities.
In the dry season, explored the cave's deep times.
The cave is located inside the Doi Nang Non mountains.
It extends an incredible 10 kilometers,
with narrow limestone mazes and vast chambers.
DAY 1, Saturday, June 23, 2018.
12 young footballers and their coach
venturing into the cave, on a trip to celebrate one of the boys' birthday.
But not long after, opening the clouds up, and a strong monsoon storm SLR to.
In Mae Sai, the boys' home, has a rainy night descended.
Concerned parents start calling around
and fr occasionally LRE that the boys have gone to the cave.
When parents go there, they are greeted by an alarming sight.
Bicycles locked to a fence, along with abandoned soccer gear.
And worse, water floods into the cave,
without any sign of boys.
Authorities are on the premises,
and, understands that the boys could be iddsfare,
some of the parents gr into the cave.
Among those desperate to find them is Mr. Bandit Phanphalakorn,
a No. friend of one of the boys' father.
I went a little farther in, but ventured not to g too far.
But one of the boys' fathers continued into the rescue team.
He walked one and a half hours, but started f breathing problems, so they had to return.
The time is now 1:00 on the night, and the boys has been missed half the night.
But where are they?
What happened to them?
Fearing the worst, m the local guvernren Narongsak Osottanakorn take a difficult conversation.
From the Lrdagskvelden and Sunday,
s that we could not make much with the situation.
S we decided to stop shing, for rest and gather new crew and equipment.
About boys at a show is still alive, deeper inside the cave,
m they spend the rest of the night alone.
But while the heavy rain continues,
can anyone really relax while the water continues rise, and not just at the entrance?
The increasing rainwater pSER into a deep underground stream north of the cave,
and before the water to cascade down the northern passage,
and has caught the boys a place in the underground labyrinth.
For make things worse, strmmer water also from the south,
while groundwater below is believed ladder,
and oversvmmer cave in many low-lying areas.
I was very worried. I could not eat, could not sleep so much, either.
I slept two to three hours, because I thought,
because everyone was thinking on what it was their own son who was missing.
DAY 2, Sunday, June 24th.
The next day, str authorities ahead of a daunting of questions:
If the boys have spent a terrifying night in a dry part of the cave,
how can they be reached the?
From the entrance, it is impossible to say how bad flooded in the rest of the cave.
For help with sking, arriving pro grotteutforskere.
- Do you see where it is coming down on the The way. - Yes, I see it.
Among them is the first foreign rescuer,
the British cave explorer statement Unsworth.
If we can get up there, so we can virtually get to the GPS point and take a sk.
After spending many rp and explore Tham Luang cave system,
is Vern's knowledge of its mapping else immensely important for the rescue mission.
Up on the mountain, he leads a team to look for alternative access points to the cave.
Another cave explorer who arrive Noppadon Uppakham.
This is one of the most challenging saves he didnt itself on, in a oversvmt grotto.
The rain was a very big obstacle for the rain increased p,
we did not know how much water would enter the cave,
which could be dangerous for those who would look in there.
The rescue crew soon discovers that in some places, no water came up to my neck.
And further inland, it has risen all the way to the ceiling.
It is now clear that the boys will be found alive,
Qualified cave divers with experience desired.
But how quickly they can be brought in?
Guvernren call into Thailand's toughest fighting force, Thai Marines.
As the US Marine soldiers, they are an elite group of Navy,
who take birth his most dangerous missions.
With those arriving Dr. Pak Loharachun,
one hyt trained diver and experienced doctor in the Royal Thai Hren.
I had concerns because we did not know the condition inside the cave,
and the crucial, we did not know exactly where the kids were.
The moment, the rescue operation at a critical point, while the water is poured in.
The rescue crew m guess where boys located.
Fortunately, there are some maps of the cave, made of 80 century by French grotteutforskere.
No one knows how accurate they are,
but from what can be put together, watching the interior like this.
Grotte system is supposed be about 1 mil far.
A deterrent length, but one's long cave gives hp,
that there are many places dry enough where the boys can stay,
and escape the rising waters.
One section, called Pattaya Beach,
looks very promising, since its hye location tilsier-
-that it may have remained dry during the flood.
But Pattaya Beach is located about 2 kilometers from the oversvmte cave entrance.
It may mean that one m swim long distances underwater
In confined spaces, and bekmrke states.
The soldiers began instantaneous work, when we were asked to look for the kids.
Every day, prvde we g s far into the cave as possible.
As a normal protocol, adding the soldiers out a command line
so they can find their way out again.
In zero visibility, is a command line a lifeline.
The soldiers stlsetter themselves for what they may or may not find.
They push on as far as the dares but airflow their are limited.
Fortunately, they find no bodies.
But it means that boys m be even deeper into the cave.
Meanwhile, continuing the water rise.
The rescue crew prver stabilize nivene the drain as much as possible,
with use powerful pumps.
But despite the crew's investigations, do not sink the water level in the cave.
And the crew is concerned that Pattaya Beach is already under water.
But they know that the cave continues far beyond that point.
So they can only hpe row that the boys could get even further into the cave.
But now, after more than 72 hours, the boys st above other serious problems.
All of the food they possibly had with him, will most likely be eaten or destroyed.
And despite flooded, there may not be water that is safe drink.
Humans can survive three to four days without water, if they do not sweat.
But without water, the body's organs fail, the kidneys stop working, etc, etc.
Finally, s we do not live.
DAY 4, Tuesday, June 26
Day four.
The whole world follows n history.
In Thailand, there is arisen a very worrying situation.
Hundreds of rescuers on the ground looking desperate
12 young Thai footballers and their coach, who is missing since Saturday.
The search is now become an international collaboration, while crews come from all over the world.
A makeshift rescue center has been set up outside the cave.
And up on the mountain, continues hundreds of volunteers shing
for another route into grotten-
-with still hope of could n the boys through another opening.
The cave consists of limestone, full of cracks and holes,
s we check area IHP about finding possible sinkhole
for could climb down into the cave.
But find an alternative entrance, preferably one that has a connection to the boys,
is like finding a NLI one Hyster, with no guarantee that you will find something.
For the parents and the local community, continuing trials.
We were rushed and did not sleep at because of concerns.
All began to be exhausted, for we had slept's small, and had not had enough rest.
We were just expecting to news, waited at the entrance to hear from those who came out.
Inside the cave, the rescue workers exposed to brutal conditions.
And even so trained they are divers in the military,
is not Thai soldiers trained for cave diving.
They teaches while they are on their way inward, which gjrsket even more dangerous,
and psychologically challenging.
It's time to call in the specialists.
P 5 days arrive Rick Stanton and John Volanthen,
members of the British Cave Rescue Rdet and two of the world's most experienced rescue divers.
John and Rick ifrer themselves instantly diving equipment, and enters the cave consider the challenge.
Soon, it becomes also Erik Brown and Ivan Karadzic with them.
Grotte Divers with this level of experience, is rarely cost.
How many divers there globally? P this level, perhaps less than a hundred.
They bring special equipment,
and with large amounts of compressed air.
As cave divers, we always plan for the worst outcome,
so that we will come out of the cave with a minimum,
with a minimum of 1/3 of the air again, in case anything should happen.
The search turns out be enormously complicated.
S the Thai government asking for help from the US military.
Flyvpenets Paratrooper-rescue squad responding,
elite soldiers, trained for carry out rescue operations in all conceivable environments.
Major Charles Hodges is their leader.
When we landed in Chiang Rai, was the 01:00 p night, early Thursday morning, June 28,
and we went directly to the cave's opening. And we inns,
"This is a different environment than what we are used to. We have to be smart with how we should deal with this"
Inside the cave, fearing all the boys are in danger of starving to death,
for they are young and slim, and with small fettreserver.
And they must burn energy for only keep warm.
Normally, we can survive without food for seven to ten days.
I mean, if the body is active.
But if we are silent, we can normally survive without food for two to three weeks, maybe also four.
Time is important, and it appears evident that pump out the water in the opening alone,
will not be enough to lower the water nivene.
Ground Water ingenir Thanet Natisri, a new tilnrmelse.
He will lead the water away from all sink holes on the top of the mountain
that it should not flow down into the cave and flooded it even more.
They called me and asked me to come and assess the problems they had,
and see if I could take care of the water in the cave better.
I knew right away that this project would not be easy.
Josh Morris, a Thai-speaking American
who has translated and coordinated between international diving teams
and the Thai authorities are also concerned about the conditions inside the cave.
The pumped huge amounts of water therefrom. But the problem was,
it is that turn on a tap and rehearsal and rehearsal suck out the water at the same time.
One can only make s s a lot.
Thanet and Josh, slr forces fighting water.
With a large team of volunteers and militrt personnel, they're trekking to the mountain.
When we promote.
On her way out there f water away from the cave,
and help these guys with f the water level.
Thanet ask the team about finding openings as possibly water into the cave.
By using portable dams, plastic tube, and bamboo,
diverts the water away from the sink hole,
and down the mountain.
The next day, begin their efforts pay off.
Amazingly enough, although it is still raining heavily,
start the water level in the cave finally stabilize ...
... and starts falling.
There are rescue operation's first real breakthrough.
DAY 7, Friday, June 29
Day Seven: It's a week since the boys were reported missing.
About the p a mirakulst show is still alive,
they are caught on a Mrkt and wet place, without food and clean water.
No on the outside can grasp what the boys m FLE,
and rescue crews are concerned about their mental health.
The GJR also, leading trauma expert Dr. Jennifer Wild at Oxford University.
She monitored the rescue operation new,
and is ready to shed light on how the boys must have it.
They will have had thoughts whether they should be vrende or not,
if they want to survive, if they come out and before seeing their families again, if they want to d.
And I think it would been a scary time for them.
Dr. Wild think the boys' young age might be an advantage,
and protects them from panicking.
No. we are younger, we tend to have a more concrete way of thinking, which is protective.
S No. we stand before a problem, we focus a lot on it, here and now.
At the grotto, before you even a glimmer of good news.
By pumping out the water and divert it from the sink hole,
have rescuers managed partially drain the first 800 meters of the cave,
so that the opening section, are more or less walkable.
Life Sinn rate intensified.
Hundreds of oxygen tanks and equipment transported over 1.5 kilometers,
to an intermediate station the call, chamber number 3.
Divers preparing for what may be their last leg.
They has been there for nearly nine days, without food,
potentially without water, so we did not know about their situation,
s I was not sure on what condition we would find them.
After ten days, and with thousands of people involved in the search,
we still know not about the boys and their coach are alive.
Once again, venturing divers down imrket.
P outside s it like an ants' nest.
There were people everywhere, moving everywhere, and everything's chaotic.
There were soldiers, there were civilians, doctors, divers, engineers,
snakes, lots of equipment and a lot of media out there.
But when we were introduced to the different teams, we started and see that-
-this was not chaotic. It was indeed a plan behind it all.
Immediately after arrival, they discover Ivan and Erik where brutal conditions in the cave.
For me, this is not the kind of conditions they like diving in.
If that was not a final ml, in a set situation, you would definitely have said, "I gr not in there"
One could not see your finger in front of your face before you took on the mask.
One could not see the stones before you hit her head on them.
There were sections where you had to lie down on the side of could squeeze through.
Man inhaled and squeezed his way through some ... some of the narrower passages.
The diving is led by two British divers, Rick Stanton and John Volanthen.
After several hours of svmming through the most dangerous parts of the cave,
with zero visibility, when they finally arrived at the Pattaya Beach,
point where hoped was great about finding the boys.
But when they grt surface and they aimed headlamps their into the dank darkness,
sank their hearts.
There is no one here,
and n are only enough air to a little piece of.
It seems hopeless, but they are determined for and find signs of boys
the runs mind's dry as they dare.
Finally, they find an air pocket and breaks the surface one last time.
And when they light up in darkness this time,
makes the final discovery, all had hoped p.
- How many are dere? - They are all alive! 13?
- Yes, 13 - Wonderful!
The divers are nearly 300 meters past Pattaya Beach.
This is where the 12 exhausted, scared boys and their coach have sk refuge.
The boys come down the slope to meet the two divers.
We come, everything will go well. Many people are on the way.
13 people, all found alive after ten days of intense and desperate search.
When divers are coming out with good news, the boys' families cheering happy.
The kids their are found alive.
When we hrte that divers had found the boys, and that they were safe, just then, we were very happy.
We hugged each other, we fell on each other, clamping.
The good news is spreading across the globe.
Tremendous relief in Thailand, no rescue team found the young footballers ...
-see p ... it alive in a cave.
All tanks that divers would st above a "retrieval of dead" instead of a rescue
is a grateful relief.
But that finding the boys was easy, compared to the challenge of the n stood in front:
implement a rescue.
The kids are found, so you had this unreal moment of joy, but s, you know,
you calmed down, but s SLR reality of what will happen n, and the next one is sort of ...
.. "Okay, they found them, but what do we do now?"
The assignment f them out, is more difficult than finding them.
And f them out is not so easy.
As soon as the boys were found, should Dr. Pak in the Royal Thai Hren, an experienced diver,
take the dangerous trip to the children's position.
He m instant f rated their health.
Frst, flte I delight.
S I thought, "What should I do now, for taking care of their physical and mental health,
so that they are ready for us to be transported out of the cave? "
I skinned great relief, that all the kids could communicate, move and stand up.
I reviewed them and concluded that there was no health complications,
no infection, no symptoms that worried me, it gave me a good feeling.
Ten days into their ordeal, the boys and coach their famished.
Dr. Pak provides them with much awaited nring, tailored to their calorie loss.
He adds also noticed that the boys ftter and hands,
still spreads symbols on their speed escape from the rising water.
When the boys prvde escape from the flood, they went barefoot and they had some cuts on the crossbar legs.
All I had with me was a disinfectant.
The way we treated Sren p, was not medically appropriate,
for we had limited equipment, so we did what we could.
SVELA who take care of the boys' acute needs, reveals Dr. Pak that he will be with them.
Fr boys were found, had their coach, a former Buddhist monk,
found a useful meeting for helping them overcome their fears.
He learned them meditate.
Meditation is really useful, because it's all about
distancing himself from thoughts, and understand that they are only thoughts, and, h ... lower your breath.
And from that point of view it was really helpful.
Shortly after the parents before knowing that the kids live, performs parents a special gesture.
They choose to focus on gratitude the multi for coach,
for fit on their kids through this unthinkable situation.
They write letters that divers will deliver to coach Ake,
one rrende and generous stttende action.
I believe that here in the West it would been the normal for parents express anger,
but the parents responded on a hill grasismte,
they wrote letters to the coach, it would help him not have guilt.
P land,
increases pressure on the authorities and get them to unveil the rescue plan.
Will they let the boys be in the cave for what may be several months,
to monsoon rain stops and the waters recede?
Earlier in the action, provided that the boys are not able to wait in the cave,
prver rescuers f them previously by flying a drilling rig up on the mountain,
to open a hoistway above and down to the boys. It's a shot in the dark,
but if it works, it can shorten the p boys stay.
But there is a problem. And make a rmningsvei will take at least months.
S on drilling success
it is unlikely that they are fast enough to save the boys from drowning,
whether the cave should flooded more,
when gjenstr just a choice: one hyst risky rescue was carried out by divers.
For US Sergeant Ken O'Brien, from flyvpenet
the idea is to swim the boys to safety, replete with many dangers.
Frst we thought it was a good idea, but when we realize that none of them have the experience of diving.
I mean, it .. it was the obvious, they are kids, and ...
... this is the most dangerous diving in the world. And even the professional cave divers,
said that this was one of the most frightening diving they had ever done.
And now there is a new problem.
Oxygen is vital both for the rescue workers and boys.
P havniv, 21 per cent concentrated oxygen in the atmosphere.
But the long stay of the boys,
combined with the arrival of rescue workers, using up the available oxygen in the cave.
faster than fresh air can seep in from outside.
Oxygen levels in caves can potentially change if it is blocked from the outside.
The more oxygen you breathe, the more CO2 you breathe out,
s obviously, one of p and the problem.
Oxygen nivene approaching the danger zone.
Oxygen nivene, was tested by the British divers who swam all the way to the boys.
We have special equipment that allows us MLE how much oxygen is in the air.
S measurements of 15% s is good, one can survive with it,
but we knew that it would not remain at 15 Every day it will sink slightly,
and when it comes down at approximately 12%, 10%, then you can not survive anymore.
In our chamber, chamber 3, was breathing a little faster.
For the amount of work you did, were you a little more tired than usual.
It is feared that the lower oxygen levels may for boys FLE ill.
And without access on the fresh air, the problem will only get worse and worse.
Lack of oxygen is also a problem for the divers.
Solutions are constantly carrying hundreds of oxygen tanks into the cave,
a time consuming and exhausting job.
And it turns out ...
... upper one ddelig an OGS.
The time 1:00 p Friday, day 14 of the rescue operation,
is voluntary rescue diver, Corporal Gunan Saman,
on the way out after a nocturnal mission of delivering oxygen tanks.
Saman is an experienced diver and former Thai Marine.
No one knows exactly what happened, but, tragically,
while he swims back to the headquarters, Saman unconscious and stop breathing.
His diving partner swims his relax your body out.
But by Saman being pulled out of the water, it's too late. He is dead.
The crew is shaken.
The oversvmte cave has claimed its first victim.
We came back to quite horrific news that day.
Morality ... got himself a wallop.
The last thing you want to happen in a rescue mission, is that something snt to happen.
When one loses a member of the team, whatever the situation,
s one becomes dull.
But on top of that Saman was not any diver, he was a previously-
-Thai Marine soldier, so he had skills which were very hye,
and then you start thinking a little, that if a person ... who Saman,
can ... can f trbbel and losing their lives there, so maybe the same can happen again.
Everyone was opprrte.
But it got a lot of soldiers, to be more resolute with gather and help.
It was pretty shocking, like, "Hey, I just talked to the guy,
"You see, for a brand that comes from its pensjonisttilvrelse
"And put themselves in danger.
Much respect for him. "
But it made things more real with be inside the cave.
Saman's dd is a powerful reminders of the dangers that still lie ahead.
Understandable enough, many of the rescue workers more worried n swim guys out.
I thought at the kids' safety at once, for all divers know it's risky.
Honestly, I was worried about the kids would be safe if we did it in this way.
Boys weakness, youth and lack of experience, suggests that they may not come out alive.
Authorities are still reviewing a plan that will drye with f boys out,
the monsoon counting has stopped.
But it could mean up to 4 months' delay, which also can prove be deadly.
P same time, a new storm expected on Tuesday or Wednesday.
If we did nothing, and the water-filled cave again,
they would possibly not have a trt place be on.
Who would take responsibility for something snt?
For help with predicting the probable rain fall, Ms. Thai military and guvernren-
-h๏ฟฝy-oppl๏ฟฝselige v๏ฟฝrmeldinger fra Weather Decision Technologies i Norman, Oklahoma.
Meteorologists here warns that the monsoon winds will give scattered rain over northern Thailand,
and that it will increase in quantity.
The first The survey of vrmeldingene forward,
showed that the threat of heavy rain would increase
week after week while we moved further into the summer monsoon.
S reality was that more rain was on the way,
and the threat would become considerably worse, the longer they waited.
These frightening warnings about increasing rain, tipping the scales and force the hands of the authorities.
The essential that wait will only increase the risk.
The odds for the kids and the coach would not live another week, not to mention a few months, was extremely low.
15 days after the boys went into the cave,
signs interior minister a risky rescue plan.
And the morning after giving Guvernr Osottanakornen a statement to the press.
There is no better day than today. We are ready.
This is D-Day.
The world, and the boys' parents, holding their breath.
The Thai authorities have determined that 13 people-
-who have never used scuba gear fr m investigate itself on a dangerous cave dives,
which has already sltt one hyst experienced diver.
There was not any other choice.
No, I think Honestly that no one runs through all the possibilities,
s no that kind was laid on the table, s sorts to them, until there is a choice again.
We knew that the only choice we had, although it was not a great choice,
was using the option dive.
The people behind the plan, both divers, doctors and engineers, they knew what they were talking about.
It's not just something they came row after 5 minutes. They had spent countless hours on it,
and used his experience to ensure that been the mission and P planning,
was to make it s safe as possible for the kids.
"We will f kids out, but it will not be easy."
How divers protect these inexperienced boys from all dangers they str above?
Divers from the British Cave Rescue rdet, which will be poured in front of the rescue operation,
ver on mission in a nearby car pool, with some local children.
Not something like this has been didnt earlier.
So, why has the job fell on these men?
The British cave-rescue rdet, which had divers and who also had coordinators,
without these guys, this would never have happened, and those guys are the best in the world.
Finally, they add a simple plan:
Svm every boy out of the cave, along with a diver.
One of the greatest challenges will be to prevent each child, from surrendering to deadly of fear
while driving over long stretches with Mrkt water.
One of the things the rescue group was afraid, was panic.
In any tunnel-like environment, like in a cave, will panic lead to instant dd.
He will use the oxygen their faster, he might want to remove the equipment he should remove.
And we can not obtain the panicked diver to the surface.
Frst, m they reduce the fear of drowning, and guarantee a reliable air supply.
It was determined that we had to f thanks in ansiktsmasker.
No. we have face masks, kids can breathe both the mouth and nose.
The kids used face masks, and the l so they l face down
It gave the English diver who retrieved the kid, the ability to protect your kid more.
Ranked an obstacle appeared, like a rock or something snt,
would diver hit the rock instead of the kid.
But not even that, could be enough to protect boys and keep them calm.
So they decided to add more security.
Each boy will be numb for most of her daunting journey.
Inside the cave, hit Dr. Pak and Dr. Richard Harris,
one Australian anesthetist and cave diving.
His task will be giving the right dose, enough to f boy to relax-
-but not so much that breathing becomes influenced.
Finally, everything is ready.
Early in the morning, Sunday, July 8.
The first major rescue researched is ready to begin.
It is now five oversvmte areas in the cave, with shallow channels and dry areas in between.
Dozens of air tanks are set out along the route.
Soldiers helping to build a rescue system with ropes in the main chambers.
And 13 ambulances, one for each of the boys and one for their coach, waiting outside.
Everyone, especially the boys nervse parents,
hopes desperately p that are survivors who will need them.
No one knows what can happen, for this has never been done before.
One can have a good plan, but ...
something's complicated like this with so many moving parts, it, it will never go as planned.
N is up to Dr. Pak and prepare boys.
I explained every detail so that they would understand,
and it was also a good meeting and f rated their mental state, whether they were ready or not.
All thought it was fine, everyone was ready to leave the cave, whatever way.
The Thai authorities did not leave a comment,
but it is believed that boys has received a mild cocktail with sedative, valium and ketamine,
for calm them down and create a state called "drmmetilstand"
which means that boys will even breathe
but will not be vken enough f panic, or do something dangerous.
The rescue starts at the boys' shelf, called chamber 9.
Along the route, the various rescue team deployed, clearly nervse for this great event.
The divers from the British Cave Rescue tempered
replacing p swim boys through the oversvmte areas.
They dive alone, at 30 minute intervals,
stages s long as 15 minutes, or nearly 360 meters, -
-and through areas s narrow as 60 centimeters.
Ranked the British divers near a dry section, taking other divers over,
and before the boys out of the water, and they spread to the next diver station.
In the oversvmte depths of the cave, Euro divers, Ivan and Erik, responsible for the chamber 6.
Euro team's role at that point was go into the, -
area called chamber 6, which is approximately half way into the cave.
Ranked the British diver and the kid came to P position,
assisted we them ... with change mind you
and make sure the kid still had a good time.
One of the things we had to make, the kids had something called a face mask,
we had to ensure that the mask had no leaks.
Selvflgelig if any kind of water came into ungens mask, it could have ended in drowning
But before Ivan gets to his post before he issues.
Perhaps one minute into the dive, maybe less,
hooking my helmet stuck in the ceiling above me, and the little too short belt strangling me.
And I know that letting go of the rope, non-
-is a good idea, because I will lose direction completely,
but as I know also that not breathe is a very be poor idea.
And I choose dropping the rope, so that I can Detaching the belt.
I fr of my helmet, before the ls from the obstacle in the ceiling,
and get me to the position where I think the rope is, and I find it not.
I find the rope again after 45 seconds, 1 minute or something snt, it fltes much longer.
Ivan release with nd and hardly away.
N m he and Erik wait in the chamber their p that the first diver, and the boy to emerge.
Man sitting on the mrkeste place in the world.
And no one is there for extended periods of time, the brain begins to play you a trick.
A couple of times caught Ivan and I, and thought, we thought we s light down there,
we cried out but got no answer back.
N I see the light from the diver and see the outline of UK diver, and I see that male
Cradle something, he leaves something through the water.
No. I'm about five, six or seven meters away,
I can see that it comes bubbling to the surface of what he spreads on the water,
which showed that the kid still breathing,
and it was probably my best experience during this entire campaign.
Ranked divers and boys through the oversvmte areas in the cave,
they mtt in chamber 3 of American soldiers.
What scared me was that I had no idea the condition of boys or coach.
The opportunity was there for the that one of them would come out, and be dd.
I turned the kid so that l face up against me,
and I would listen to make sure my breathing was labored.
There are still nearly 800 meters away from the chamber 3 to the entrance of the cave, where the ambulances waiting.
In one section, used crew a cable car line, for pulling guys out in a Skedco,
a special glacier, up a steep slope.
Then they fastened kid Skedcoen and we started pulling him over with the safety line,
there were places where some stones were in the way,
where we had a guy who helped to pull him over.
Very carefully, for it was very smooth, and Mrkt, everyone had only headlamps their.
I skinned the whole thing was like "Mission: Impossible."
Skedco burner was sent up to the marines,
who had an hr there and formed a human chain that sent the fuel all the way down.
The boys are hurrying avgrde one and one to the hospital by ambulance or helicopter.
Parents fr know about it,
but do not know which kids about is saved, or who is left in the cave
Here once a child was pulled out, so hoped we of course that it was been the children.
The entire time they came out, s hpte we.
At the end of day 18, Tuesday, July 10,
all the 12 boys and their coach out there, and everyone is in good health.
Against all odds, the 18-day trials that got people all over the world to fear the worst,
has ended up as a miracle, thanks to daring rescue mission.
All the 12 boys ... every child from the football team, is saved.

But while the world celebrates, inside the cave there are still dozens of rescuers.
And almost 2,400 meters inside the mountain,
m Dr. Pak and three soldiers still come out from where the boys were.
They start on their journey, and not a moment too soon.
Key pumps which diverts water, give up, and the water starts rise.
I thought it would be easy to get out, because they pumped the water away.
But seven of nine pumps stopped working, so much water flooded into.
After having decided to leave the equipment, get the crew out, just in time.
You can reach the final out of the cave and and that's when you finally can release pleasure ls.
I mean, you were exhausted, but it was exciting, people clapped, high Fives, flash singles.
They PURCHASED little KFC (Fried Chicken) to us.
I think it was a bottle of Jack Daniels that was passed around and everyone celebrated with a small sip.
I mean, there were many hugs f.
The thousands of volunteers from Thailand and around the world,
carried out a rescue against all odds ...
... a miracle of courage and superhuman effort.
P a personal level, S, I have four kids.
And f see these 12 kids and coach their being rescued, was incredibly satisfying.
I was proud be a part of it, one of 10,000 people who made the mission successful.
It makes me glad to see that it happens such big moments in the world.
And be a part of ... change the impossible to the possible, it feels ... feels amazing.
A great feeling.
Knowing that one could f see a ddt children come out of the cave was really a challenge.
And, h ... yep, that see 13 guys coming out, jss,
and the four soldiers, it was, it was pretty s incredible.
This incredible story of human endurance, grabbed the world's attention.
We are coming. Many people come.
It was a testimony to the determination of the Thai people,
and showed us all what can be oppndd by combining sacrifice, courage, and teamwork -
-with ingenuity and technology. But much more than that,
the incredible cave rescue in Thailand gave 12 boys and their coach a future ...
... that many thought were lost.
