DEAN: Illusion.
The art of tricking the brain.
Distorting the senses.
Challenging perception.
You can't trust what you see, even with your own eyes,
because your brain can be misled.
Meet "The Masters of Illusion."
DEAN: Good evening!
I'm your host, Dean Cane.
Is the purpose of illusion to confuse our senses?
This simple piece of wire has no moving parts,
yet when I twist it in my hands,
it appears to expand but the size never changes.
When I twist it the opposite way,
it appears to shrink, but the wire always remains the same
length.
It's the brain that lengthens or shortens this object,
never the object itself.
Murray Sawchuck specializes in making the simple spectacular.
Here he makes a small thought come to life in a big way.
MURRAY: I love doing predictions and different
things so on the way in I went to a toy store and I
bought some Matchbox toys.
Regular toy cars just here.
And anyone have-- ever have these?
Perfect, shush.
Just the middle section, good.
Alright.
Would you help me, young man?
MAN: Yeah. MURRAY: Alright.
I got, you can stand up, sure.
You wanna feel like you want to stand up,
MAN: Yeah! Be special.
MURRAY: Oh, you're tall!
Sit down. No, I'm just kidding.
Um, so I got a Porsche here,
I got a speedboat, I got a, uh,
white Jeep, and I have a, uh, green tractor.
Alright. Do you drive yet?
MAN: Uh, no.
MURRAY: How old are you?
MAN: Seventeen. MURRAY: Seventeen.
What is with that-- sixteen, seventeen.
MAN: I'm too lazy. MURRAY: Grow up, man.
Alright, so-- alright, so if you were to drive a car and
you want to get one that you're going to have your
first, uh, first car, right, sixteen?
Which one do you want?
MAN: Jeep.
MURRAY: You want the Jeep?! Nice!
Hang on to that, alright?

DEAN: Next, Michael Grandinetti breaks the laws of
physics right before your eyes.
DEAN: Michael Grandinetti lives for
a challenge.
Tonight, it's a plate of solid steel.
Is it physically possible?
MICHAEL: Hi, everyone.
Right now I want to show all of you my latest challenge.
That's a plate of solid steel.
When it's standing, it's seven feet tall,
four feet wide, and it's one inch thick.
It also weighs 200 pounds.
It's a serious piece of metal.
Now, in a minute, my goal is-- is going to be to get from
this side of the platform, through this frame,
to this spot, right here-- which right now doesn't seem
that tough.
But if that steel plate were filling this frame-- that
would change everything.
Guys, let's lift it in place.
On my go.
Ready?
Lift.
To the platform.
Turn it around, slowly.
And freeze.
Let's take it in.
And let's lock it in place.
Now, to get from one side to the other,
there's only one way to go, and that's directly through
the center of that steel wall.
This center section right here.
I want you to watch this very closely.
We're going to mark it with this piece of paper.
But, remember you'll be able to see the steel around the
paper throughout this entire illusion.
This platform is also specially designed,
so you can see behind it, around it,
and even underneath it at all times.
Again, guys, watch this very closely.
To get through this wall, I actually have to melt my hands
and my body into this metal, become one with the steel,
and, hopefully, pull myself through to the other side.
Now, we're going to show you a lot of magic in this show,
and I hope that we're able to prove to you that there's no
barriers that keep any of us from achieving the impossible.
As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I'm going to try
right now.
