- [Narrator] The hands and the foot are the body's

natural weapons when attacking an adversary,

and a kick with a foot is the most powerful.

But there is considerable skill in making the kick

with maximum impact.

(dramatic orchestral music)

The turn kick is the northern technique.

It's a refinement of the Shaolin school of Kung Fu.

It's speed and ferocity are its chief points.

The Tan family developed it further into three variations.

That's why the turn kick is so lethal.

(foot thudding into face)

The first style is known

as the side of death.

(suspenseful orchestral music)

The second style is the kick of the throat.

(suspenseful orchestral music)

The third style relies

on superb accuracy.

(dramatic orchestral music)

The mole kick was developed in the South.

It's a series of smooth movements,

any one of which can become the attacking kick.

It's hard to defend against.

It's key movement is known as the dance of the phoenix.

Then, entering heaven,

and riding the clouds.

But the best technique...

(kicks thudding) (suspenseful music)

The Phoenix Dance.

(kicks thudding)

Entering heaven.

Riding the clouds.

The ground kick, which developed from Wu Tan Kung Fu

and from body wrestling.

It gives the ground kick great strength

and a devastating impact.

(suspenseful music)

- Ping Fe, there is no quarrel between us

so why do you insist on challenging me?

- Tan Hai-Chi, it's quite simple.

One of us has to die.

There isn't room enough for us both.

Ha, as the chief exponent of the ground kick,

I reign supreme!

- Did your brother Ping Fe put you up to this?

- That's enough.

I'm confident I'm gonna beat you.

(legs and fists thudding) (men grunting)

- Ping Fe , nobody's the best fighter in the entire world,

but if you wanna fight, I'm game any time. (grunts)

(dramatic music)

(Tan Hai-Chi groans)

(kicks thudding)

- Hm, Tan Hai-chi, I already told you I'll kill ya.

You've got no escape.

You don't stand a chance against me.

(kicks and fists thudding) (men grunting)

You may be the best man in the North,

but not here you ain't. (laughs)

(Hai-chi grunts)

(men shout)

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(fist thudding)

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(Ping Fegroaning)

(men shouting)

(somber orchestral music)

- Did Tan Hai-Chi do this by himself?

- Yeah.

Second match there, (mumbles) conceded defeat,

but Tan Hai-Chi still went ahead and killed him.

So that--

- I've heard enough.

The Tan kick school have always been our sworn enemies.

We should have dealt with them a long time ago.

See to the funeral arrangements.

I don't want there to be any expense spared for him.

- [Man] Sure!

- When all this is over, Tan Hai-chi,

I will kick your head off, lay it on my brother's grave!

(dramatic music) (Phoenix grunting)

- Please stop it, I can't bear it!

It's hurting. (groaning)

I can't stand it!

- Phoenix, learning Kung Fu isn't easy.

You must be patient.

(rope creaking)

- Master. Master.

I can't stand it.

It's hurting.

My God, it's hurting me.

Ow.

- (grunts) You have to learn to endure suffering.

When you wanted to learn Kung Fu

you asked me to be your teacher.

If I'm your teacher, you must do what I tell ya.

(rope creaking) (Phoenix grunting)

- Where has Chin Fa gone to?

Why isn't he here?

Where is he?

- Heh-heh, Master Mo, have some tea.

(Chin Fa laughs)

(hands thudding) (men grunting)

Oh, hey.

(leg and hands smacking) (Chin Fa grunting)

Oh. Ow!

(Master Mo spits tea)

- Chin Fa, quick.

Cut the rope, quickly!

(Chin Fa grunting)

(arms smacking) (men grunting)

- (groaning) Grab hold of the rope!

- Yes, I've got it!

(arms and legs smacking) (men grunting)

(Chin Fa shouts)

Oh, oh.

(Chin Fa shouts)

- Ah. (laughs)

- [Chin Fa] Ah! Oh, oh, oh.

(arms and legs smacking)

Ow! Oh!

(kick thuds) (Chin Fa groaning)

Ah!

- Let go of the rope!

- Right! (grunting)

Oh, my trousers!

(Chin Fa shouts) (Phoenix groaning)

(stick smacking) (everyone grunting)

- Get back.

Hey.

(stick smacking) (Chin Fa grunting)

- [Chin Fa] Oh, what are we gonna do, Miss?

Ow.

- Dance around makin' trouble?

- [Chin Fa] Miss, what are we gonna do?

- Fight him!

(weapons smacking) (Chin Fa grunting)

- Ow, my back!

- Hey. - Ow.

(kicks thudding) (Chin Fa grunting)

(Phoenix groaning)

(Master Mo grunting)

(Chin Fa shouts)

(Phoenix groaning) (rope creaking)

- Oh!

- [Master Mo] Here, here.

- Why are you holding my leg?

Let go of the rope!

- Right.

Uh-oh, the knife.

- (grunting) Chin Fa, something's wrong with your Kung Fu.

- Look, Miss, don't worry.

Failure is sure to bring success.

I vow never to give up.

- Give up.

You better forget it.

That stupid old man, I thought he was going back home.

He must go sometime, so why are you still here? (groans)

- I won't say this again, but I always keep my promises.

Now, I don't care what technique you two use,

but if you can beat me then I'll go home straight away.

(Chin Fa groaning)

- Chin Fa, this is going to be hot.

(Chin Fa shouts)

Miss, you knew Master Mo was an expert at Kung Fu,

so why do you insist on bothering him?

You see, you see, now he's hurt himself.

- Father wanted him to teach me Kung Fu.

Rather torture me the whole time.

I don't know why he wanted to do it.

- Look, Miss, be patient.

If that old fart doesn't leave us soon,

I promise you, I'll tear him limb from limb!

I'll protect ya! Ow.

- Ah, Chin Fa, you're as bad as she is in this.

If Master Mo hears what you say, hm!

He's gonna tear you apart limb from limb.

- Huh? He wouldn't.

I'm not scared of all his Kung Fu tricks.

I know some, too.

Let me show 'em to ya.

Hey, (arms whooshing)

the lotus kick.

Hey, ha, oh.

The white horse kick.

(legs whooshing) (Chin Fa grunting)

The tiger kick.

Hey. (grunting)

- Shh. Shh.

- What's wrong?

Wasn't that one right?

Huh, that stupid old man only knows three kicks.

To tell ya the truth, once I've perfected

my own kicking style, even that old Mo Kung Fan

couldn't beat me.

Ha, the first one.

Now watch carefully.

(fists whooshing)

(hands smacking) (Chin Fa grunting)

(groaning) That's the first kick that I'll give him.

The second?

The ground kick.

The second style's called knocking Mo flat on his face!

(arms and leg whooshing) (Chin Fa grunting)

Hey.

Ah, oh.

Oh, Mister Mo, how are you?

- I'm bad.

I feel sick.

- Huh?

Why are you feeling sick?

Did you catch a cold or something?

- Much more serious than that.

That first kicking style of yours

and knocking me to the floor.

(stick smacking) (Chin Fa groaning)

Do you think I'm feeling happy about that?

I'm not.

You've upset me utterly now. - Oh, Mister Mo.

- Huh?

(stick smacking)

- Master Mo, don't be like that.

I was just joking.

I was kidding.

- Kidding?

(Chin Fa groans)

(chuckles) Didn't you say I could never defeat you?

Well, you better put your money where your mouth is.

Let's see ya now, huh?

What's so great about your kick, huh?

(Chin Fa whimpering)

(Master Mo chuckling)

- Oh, Miss.

Unlce Ho, help me!

- Master Mo, Chin Fa is always boasting like that.

No one ever takes him seriously.

- Phoenix, stand back and watch my Kung Fu.

(stick smacking) (men grunting)

(chuckles) All these kicks are designed

to instill respect in you,

so don't you give me cheek, huh?

- [Chin Fa] Ow.

(kick thuds)

- Phoenix, stay out of it.

You just stand back.

(stick smacks) (Chin Fa whimpers)

Come on now, what about your second kick?

Let's see that.

- [Chin Fa] Oh, it's not ready yet.

- Not ready?

I'll teach you.

Your head!

(stick smacking) (Chin Fa whimpering)

Turn around.

The left, the right, backward, forward.

Your legs and the sweep.

(Chin Fa groaning)

- The sweep?

But that isn't the sweeping kick.

It's called searching for insects.

- Insects?

(stick thudding)

(Chin Fa shouts)

(Phoenix gasps)

Ah, I thought I told you to stay out of this.

Now get back.

Go on.

(Chin Fa whimpering)

That's my neck.

Hey Miss, please help me.

You gotta help me.

You gotta do something. (grunting)

Oh no!

Ow, my stomach.

Oh, I'm done for.

- Chin Fa, what about this stupid old man's Kung Fu now?

Not bad is it, huh?

You still say I can't beat you up?

Do you want some more?

- No, please don't, no more.

- Yes, that's the right idea, huh?

You gotta practice more and study much, much harder.

The stupid old man will be waiting.

(playful music)

(Chin Fa groaning)

- Chin Fa. - Chin Fa!

- Chin Fa, are you feeling all right?

- It's okay, I'm all right. (groans)

(yawning)

(playful music)

- [Uncle Ho] Chin Fa!

Chin Fa, quickly, go and tell Miss to come out.

- Why are you in such a hurry.

- With Master Mo.

- Oh, the old man?

The old man's going?

- That's right, he's leaving.

He's going back home.

- He's leaving, huh?

Are you sure? - Yes absolutely.

- You're really sure!

Mistress!

Mistress!

Mistress!

- Chin Fa, what are you shouting about?

- [Chin Fa] Quickly, come down here!

Good news!

Quickly, Mistress.

I've got some good news for you.

Some really good news.

Wait 'til you hear it.

- What is it?

- [Chin Fa] It's fantastic news.

- I hope you're not getting married,

'cause that isn't very good news for the girl.

- Oh, not me, not me.

That stupid old man is going home.

- What's that?

He's leaving at last.

- Master Mo, if your wife insists on your going home,

I assume she must be really very sick.

You needn't worry about us here.

You're free to go home.

- I've sent for one of my best friends to come here

and teach your daughter.

Should've been here three days ago.

I don't know why he's so late gettin' here.

- Is that the Tan Hai-chi you mentioned to me?

- Yes, he's widely recognized as being

one of the best of the younger group of fighters

and he's studied all the books.

He knows all the different styles, practiced very hard.

He's become very proficient.

Much better than me.

- If you've recommended him, I'm sure he's good.

But, my daughter's so mischievous.

If your wife does recover shortly,

I hope you'll come straight back.

- Yes. - Dad!

- Master. - Dad!

- Master. - Master.

- Phoenix, your master's wife is sick,

so Master Mo has got to go home.

- Master, why are you in such a hurry?

Can't you stay here just a little longer.

We could throw a party for you.

I'm sure you will enjoy that.

- That's right, Master.

If you go now, who's gonna teach Mistress her Kung Fu?

- All right, all right.

There's no need for you two to say that.

I know you're hoping I would leave.

Aren't I--

- No, no, not at all.

- I'm warning you!

Just because I won't be here for awhile

doesn't mean you and the Mistress aren't to practice hard.

If you (mumbles) I'll have the skin off the pair of ya.

- Ah! - Ah!

- You're coming back? - You will be coming back?

- (mumbles) Don't you want me to come back?

- Oh, not at all. (Phoenix mumbles)

- I hope you return as soon as you can.

- That's right, come back soon.

- Don't you forget, if you do want to get rid of me,

there's only one way.

You have to study Kung Fu hard if you're gonna defeat me.

And if you do that, I'll never trouble you again.

(chuckles) Master, goodbye.

- Yes, and good luck to you.

Phoenix, see Master out.

- Yes.

(traditional music)

- You know, Phoenix, I want you

to remember these words well.

Always practice hard.

Don't be lazy or else when I return I'll punish you.

- Don't worry, Master.

I'll practice every day just like you said.

- [Master Mo] Mm.

- Master Mo, we'd better say goodbye to you now.

Maybe if you...

(Master Mo grumbles)

Ow!

- No hurry.

I'd better be on my way now.

And you can go back now.

Remember to practice.

And don't forget.

- Yes, sir. - Yes, sir.

- Master, goodbye!

- Good luck and God bless you, Master.

Huh, Miss?

We're free at last!

The stupid old fart is gone for good!

- Don't be too happy.

I bet he'll be coming back.

- Oh, by that time it'll be at least three months

and during that period we can concentrate on being famous.

- Being famous?

Just what do you have in mind?

- Well, if you're gonna learn all those styles of Kung Fu,

you gotta challenge other fighters

to improve your own skill.

And once you're famous we don't need to be scared of Mo

and that'll answer all our problems.

- But we've got to win fights first to be famous.

- Oh, there are lots of fighters around.

We could challenge any one of them to a fight.

(men shouting) (woman crying out)

- [Woman] Please help me.

(fabric ripping)

(men shouting) (fist thudding)

- Hey, Miss, look, there's a fight.

Let's join in.

- Let's go.

(woman whimpering)

(kicks and fists thudding) (men grunting)

- Hey, that's some kick you got there.

- You show me some respect.

You're talking to a lady.

You address me politely.

- So, uh, are you gonna do something about it if I don't?

- Of course I will.

I'll make you get down on your knees

and beg for my forgiveness.

Then I'll spare your lives.

- You've got a big mouth.

I'm warning you, lady.

Us five are all brothers.

And you're only one girl.

We won't make things hard if ya come with--

(hand smacks flesh)

And look after--

(hand smacks)

- [Brother] Get her, brother.

(man chuckles)

- Stop that.

(kicks and fists thudding) (Phoenix and men grunting)

- Talk! Apologize.

- No, no, no.

- Don't you say that.

(man grunts)

I'm sorry. - I'm sorry.

I'm sorry!

- I'm sorry.

Miss, all right, he's apologized to you already.

(kicks thudding) (Phoenix and men grunting)

(men chattering)

- Hold it!

The rest of you haven't apologized yet.

- Gentlemen.

Going somewhere?

- [Men] No, no.

- Did you ask me to come with you?

- No, no, no.

(men speaking all at once)

- [Chin Fa] You're going nowhere!

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

(electronic pulsing)

- Lady, you're going too far with them.

Forgive them.

- Stranger, just who do you think you are?

Not your business.

Stay out of it!

- Didn't ya hear what she just said?

She said stay out of it, so mind your own business.

Go ahead, go on, get away.

Huh?

(foot stomps) (Chin Fa groans)

Oh, that's my foot.

- Lady, I realize that this bunch of idiots

are good for nothing, but you've punished them enough.

I think you should let them go now.

(brothers chattering)

- You won't get off so lightly.

- What do you want?

Are you going to kill all of them?

- Oh, thank you, sir. - Thank you, thank you.

- How dare you let them go?

I'll punish you, you fool.

(kicks whooshing)

Hi! Ho! (Chin Fa groaning)

(kicks thudding) (Phoenix and Chin Fa grunting)

- [Chin Fa] Oh Mistress, what did you kick me for?

- I've seen enough of your Kung Fu technique.

I'm going now.

(kicks thudding) (Phoenix grunting)

Lady, it's much better that no one gets hurt.

(kick whooshes)

- Hm.

You stay here.

- Hm, try and make me.

- That's right.

Just because you know how to use some Kung Fu

is not gonna help you.

Hey!

(kicks whooshing)

(Phoenix grunting)

- The art of Kung Fu is to improve one's self.

It's not for showing off.

- [Phoenix] Hm.

- Hey, bastard, you stay out of it.

I'm not gonna show you how expert I am.

Huh.

Miss, he's gone.

We let him off the hook that time.

(hand smacks) - It's all your fault!

It's your idea we become famous.

Hm!

- Phoenix.

My girl, where have you been all this time?

Why have you been away for such a long time?

- Where I spend my time is not your business.

- Yes, I don't dare.

I don't disagree.

That's your father's wish,

but there's a guest here to see you.

- We have a guest?

- Aye.

- Dad?

Who could be visiting us here?

(electronic pulsing)

- Mistress, what's this bastard doing?

- Hm, who the hell are you?

And what are you doing in our house.

- Phoenix, don't be so rude to our guest.

Hai-chi, you have met before?

- Dad, this man's a fool.

He bullied me.

- Shut up.

You have said enough already.

Hai-chi, what is this all about?

- When I was coming here, I bumped into your daughter

doing a good deed.

- Good deed? (laughs)

Hai-chi, don't you cover up for her.

I know, she was up to no good, making trouble.

Phoenix, I'm right?

- Those bastards were bullying a poor girl,

so I sorted them out.

I did do a good deed.

- You are a lady.

You must not fight people in public.

Just 'cause Master Mo is gone, no need for you to run wild.

- Dad!

- Master, you mustn't blame her.

It was all my fault.

It was my idea, really it was.

- You had better shut up.

I know it's all your idea.

She'd never do it on her own, so I'll punish you.

- Ho Chung? - Yes, sir?

- Take him and beat him.

(dramatic orchestral music) - Uncle Ho,

Mister Ho, please go easy on me.

Let me keep them on.

- No!

Rule of the house.

Off!

- Off.

Uncle Ho, please don't hit me too hard.

Go easy on me.

Go easy on me.

- Chin Fa, you mustn't blame me.

The Master said you always liked fighting,

so he told me to give you a beating

until the first blood is spilled on the ground,

otherwise I'm gonna be the one who's punished.

Now, take it like a man.

Lift up his clothes.

(Chin Fa whimpering)

(cane smacking) (Chin Fa shouting)

- Ow, that's my bum, ow!

Go, oh go easy with it, Uncle Ho.

Oh, that's my bum!

Oh, you're hurting me.

Oh, what do you think you're doing?

You're killing me, Uncle!

Stop! Oh!

Uncle Ho, please.

Oh no, hurts my bum, no!

- Your father wants me to be your teacher.

You'll learn new styles and study books.

But I have to tell you this,

you must obey my orders straight away.

I know you may not like me, but that doesn't matter.

I have the same rules as Master Mo.

I don't care what style you use,

but if you can defeat me, I'll leave you alone.

- [Phoenix] Hm.

- Now, open your study books.

(stool clatters)

Hm.

And learn to concentrate and remember it.

You must learn never to show your anger.

You must conduct yourself with dignity.

(Phoenix grunting)

Respect your elders.

Obey superiors.

If you don't, you're not worthy.

You'll be punished.

A gentleman always shows restraint.

(cane whooshes) (Phoenix grunts)

And kindness.

He must be virtuous and courageous and upright.

Do you understand?

- Huh?

Mistress?

Oh, Mr. Tan, have some tea.

(cane thuds)

Have some tea.

(men grunting)

(Hai-chi slurping tea)

(men grunting)

(fist thuds)

(fists and kicks thudding) (everyone grunting)

Ah, Mr. Tan, I'm too young to die.

Well, thank you.

(kick thuds) Oh!

(kicks thudding) (everyone grunting)

Mr. Tan, you can hit me anywhere,

but not my bum, please.

- Are you afraid? (laughs)

- No.

(cane smacking) Oh no!

No, please don't, sir, not my bum!

No!

Ah, no!

(Chin Fa shouting)

(dramatic music)

- Chin Fa, you sure it'll work?

You better be sure you've got it right.

- Absolutely, it'll work this time.

It's one of my new tricks.

Master Mo taught it to me.

It's a good trick. (chuckles)

This time that bastard Tan is really in for it.

I'm gonna make him pay.

(Phoenix laughs)

(playful music)

(Hai-chi shouts)

- [Hai-Chi] Chin Fa, what are you doing?

Please put me down.

(Chin Fa cackling)

I won't be so mean to you.

Please, spare me Chin Fa.

Put me down.

Chin Fa, put me down!

(water splashes)

(upbeat music)

- Mistress, it's gonna work this time.

You just stand back here and enjoy the show, okay?

(suspenseful music)

- [Hai-Chi] Huh?

(Chin Fa grunting)

(Chin Fa shouting)

- [Chin Fa] Help me!

Oh no!

- Chin Fa, if this is a new trick, what's it called?

- Entering heaven.

- Not up, going down.

(Chin Fa shouts) (water splashes)

- (whimpering) Now I look like an old turtle.

(soft music)

- Pay attention when you're writing.

You aren't concentrating.

How can you write properly?

- Hm, in fact, I don't wanna write anything.

I just wanna learn Kung Fu.

- You're wrong.

Studying books will help you to learn Kung Fu.

To write correctly you must be coordinated

and your hand must be steady, just as in Kung Fu practice.

- It's got nothing to do with Kung Fu.

- Certainly it does.

You must be coordinated for Kung Fu.

Your hand and eye must move together

and speed of reaction decides victory or defeat.

(Phoenix sighs)

If you can write well, you learn to concentrate

and be calm and strong.

You might learn wisdom, too.

Don't underestimate it.

If you wanna learn it, you'll have to write.

Now carry on.

(playful music)

- Master Tan, a nice cup of tea?

I made it specially for ya.

Here, have a cup.

Huh?

Oh!

Go on, drink your tea up.

(upbeat suspenseful music)

- Chin Fa, why does the tea taste so nice?

- Of course it does.

That's because it's a special blend.

- You're working too hard.

Have some yourself.

- Oh no, no, no.

Sir, I couldn't take it.

That wouldn't be respectful.

I won't drink it, no, I can't.

- Never mind, I give you permission.

So, now you'll have to drink it.

- I just took some medicine.

I can't drink tea.

- If you drink this tea, I'll give ya some more.

- Medicine? No, no!

There's already some in it.

Oh!

(tray clanging)

(Chin Fa whimpering)

- Talk!

What's in it?

- Well, well...

It's ginseng and honey and chicken, no, I can't.

I can't drink it, I refuse.

- Are you sure about that?

- Yes, I'm quite sure.

- Then forget it.

(suspenseful music)

(cane thuds) (Chin Fa grunts)

- Oh, I drank it all.

(Phoenix groans)

Oh, my stomach!

(playful music)

Oh!

(suspenseful music)

- Hey, what are you up to now?

- Mistress, I am well aware you neither like me

nor respect me.

You think you're good enough to tackle any style.

But now, I'm gonna go a few rounds using this stick.

I don't care how you manage it.

But if you can defeat me, I won't bother you again.

- All right, but you asked for it,

so don't blame me if I happen to hurt you.

- Then I'll have only myself to blame.

- Oh, Master Tan, you're gonna lose this time.

My Mistress is an all-around expert.

She'll say bye-bye to you.

- I'm only afraid she's no good at fighting.

- Hm, I'm warning you.

I'll make you eat those words before I'm through with you.

(baton whooshing)

- You're not performing a show.

It looks very attractive, but does it work?

(batons clicking) (Phoenix and Hai-chi grunting)

Hm, your step is wrong.

You're unsteady.

(batons clicking) (Phoenix and Hai-chi grunting)

You're not bad at all, but you're weak.

- Mistress, use your sword.

(sword clangs)

(sword whooshing)

(sword and baton clanging) (Phoenix and Hai-chi grunting)

- Can't even hold it.

I don't think you better use those anymore.

- Mistress, use the long staff.

(staff whooshing)

(staff and baton clanging) (Phoenix and Hai-chi grunting)

- When you attack, you've no defense.

(staff and baton clanging) (Phoenix and Hai-chi grunting)

Huh, I think I guessed right.

You aren't good at anything.

(staff whooshing) (Chin Fa shouts)

(playful music)

- Mistress!

(ominous music)

(customers chattering)

Mistress, no need to feel so bad about it.

I'm certain I can dream up an idea

that will fix this bastard Tan forever.

Oh!

- Don't bullshit me.

I'm the one who got defeated, not you.

- Ow!

I admit I started it, but I tell ya,

if we let him stay here we're all gonna pay for it.

He means business.

(bell rings)

- [Man] Hm.

- [Waiter] Ah, Mister.

Come in this way.

We've got a table.

Here you are.

- [Man In Blue] Here, here, through here.

- [Waiter] What would you like to order?

- [Men] Best food in the house.

Hurry up.

- Hey, who's that man?

- That guy, he's a local bully boy.

Ah Lu.

He likes to hear pretty sounds,

so he wears a golden bell around his neck.

Seems like he likes it.

Likes the sound.

That's why everyone calls him Master Ding Dong.

(bells jingling)

- Hey, ding dong, ding dong.

Buy a lovely new bell.

Hang it on your front door

and ding dong when a guest arrives.

And all the thieves are scared off.

Big bells only 10 cents and a small bell only five cents.

You can try it if you like.

Ding dong, ding dong.

Anyone want to buy a bell? - Mistress, this guy,

he'll be in big trouble.

- Ding dong, ding dong.

Gentleman, business has been so slow today,

so I'm offering a discount.

Take one free, gentlemen.

You see, it's guaranteed.

Absolutely guaranteed for years.

- [Man] Guaranteed for what?

- (mumbles) Won't get broken.

- [Man] Broken?

Go to hell.

- [Peddler] Hey, what are you doing?

Oh!

Oh, oh, oh. (hands smacking)

(hands smacking) (peddler grunting)

- What are we doing?

You asked for it.

(fist thuds)

(peddler grunting)

Do you know who's there, huh?

- (grunting) Who's there?

- Can't you see who's there?

If it isn't Mr. Ding Dong.

While you're tryin' to sell all those bells,

I hope you're not tryin' to make fun of us.

- Mister, you misunderstood.

I'm not selling him anything, I'm going ding dong.

(hand smacks)

- You just say that about me?

- Yes, sir.

I didn't mean to, Mister.

(hand smacking) (peddler grunting)

- Oh, you still want to explain it?

- No, I don't have to.

It's only ding dong.

I'm not that stupid.

- (laughs) You agree that you can be stupid

and you should be beaten up?

- No, no!

- No?

- Yes, yes.

- Oh, yes.

(fists thudding) (peddler grunting)

- Hold it!

- Did you just tell me to hold it?

- That's right, I said hold it.

- Do you know who I am?

- Well, I know you're called Ding Dong

and you're a villain.

- Huh?

You cheeky girl.

Are you aware of what's gonna happen to ya?

- Hey, don't play tough.

Take a good look at yourself.

No wonder you're called Ding Dong.

I'm sure you'll sound like a bell

when you hit the floor.

All your bells will start ringing at once, huh?

(fists thudding) (Chin Fa groaning)

(kicks whooshing) (fighters grunting)

- Oh, Master! - Master!

(men grunting)

- Deal with them!

- Right. - Right.

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- What kind of kick is that?

- Mole's kick.

- Mole's kick?

(arms whooshing)

- So you know the crab fists.

- Aye, this is called the crane fish, though.

Ah!

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

What's your called?

- The dead crane.

- Huh? (fist smacking)

Ah! (bells jingling)

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

(Ding Dong chuckles)

Ow!

Oh no. (fist smacks)

(bell jingling)

Thank you, thank you.

(bell smacking flesh) (Ding Dong grunting)

Please, no, no!

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Oh, my bum!

No, no!

No, no, please, no, not my bum, oh!

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Don't kick.

Don't kick.

(arms whooshing)

- Hey, what's wrong with you?

- What'd I do?

You started all this, you know.

You ever seen a centipede style?

(arms whooshing) (Ding Dong grunting)

(metal clanging)

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

Oh!

Oh!

(fist thudding)

(men grunting)

(fist thuds) (Chin Fa shouts)

(men grunting)

- [Chin Fa] Oh no, oh my bum.

My bum really hurts! - Hey, hey, hey!

(men grunting)

(kick whooshes)

- You watch it.

Don't think your kicking Kung Fu is all that good.

I'll be back to show you my Ding Dong style.

I'll be back.

(men grumbling)

It's all your fault.

Let's go.

- Mistress, if we can just beat up a few more guys

who are as famous as fighters as old Ding Dong,

we'll be famous, too.

You'll see.

No, no, you'll be famous.

Everybody will know you.

You needn't worry about that stupid idiot, Tan Hai-chi,

'cause I'm sure Master Mo will recognize soon your ability.

- All you can ever do is talk.

Listen, if you can do something to get rid

of Tan for me, then I'll be happy.

- Ah, that's no problem.

You leave that to me, huh?

- Come on, move it along then. - All right, hurry it up.

Come on, hurry it up.

- You hold it!

(suspenseful music)

Uncle Ho?

- Miss? - What you doing?

- Miss, Master Tan ordered us to move it out.

- Hey, what do you think you're doing?

- If you don't know what it's for, why put it here?

You have to learn to use your hands and feet

before the weapons.

- Ah, just who do you think you are, a magistrate?

Or my dad?

And you're not my master.

- I am.

I'm your temporary master.

- My master is Mo Ho Feng, not you.

- Miss!

- Hey!

Didn't you hear her?

How dare you disobey Mistress's orders.

- Do you hear me?

Carry that inside.

- Chin Fa!

- Move it.

(playful music)

- Stop!

Take it out.

Take it out!

- You hold it!

If anybody disobeys me, he will be fired.

- Miss, your father gave us the order

to obey Master Tan.

- Hm, I don't give a damn.

You carry back it inside.

You disobey me again, I'll beat you up!

Take it! - Phoenix!

You're almost at the limit.

What do you think you're doing?

- Dad, he insulted me and now you take his side.

- Phoenix, Hai-chi is right.

You have to learn the basics first

before you can fight with such weapons.

So, until Master Mo returns,

you better listen to Master Tan and do what he says.

- I refuse to be taught Kung Fu by that man.

Dad, you had better fire him.

Otherwise, I'll leave the South and never come back!

(hand smacks) (Phoenix's father grunts)

(Phoenix gasps) (somber orchestral music)

Dad.

- Master Ho.

- Phoenix, since your mother died,

I know that I have been spoiling you,

but I have to call a stop to that now.

You're making a fool of yourself.

- Ah! (crying)

- Hai-chi, please, do not be upset.

- Of course I'm not.

I'm sorry to cause you this trouble.

- Please don't say that.

After all, I asked you to teach the girl.

So no matter how you do it, I will back you up.

I hope we can change her.

- Mistress.

Mistress, Mistress!

Oh, ow, ow.

Mistress, open the door.

I've got an idea.

- I don't wanna talk to you!

If you can't get rid of him, you get lost!

- [Chin Fa] Oh!

- [Phoenix] Huh?

- [Chin Fa] Ah.

- What is he doing?

- It's on your father's orders.

- It's a lovely day today.

I'm taking you on as my student,

so now I'm no longer your temporary master.

- Even if there was no one else alive

I wouldn't take you as my master.

- If Master Mo wasn't a good friend of mine,

I would never agree to take on such a lousy student.

- You!

- As for the Kung Fu you know,

it's only good for idiots.

You shouldn't make a fool of yourself.

Huh, I thought you respected Master Mo.

- Look here, Tan.

What is so great about you?

If you're good, why not challenge everyone?

- I'm not great, I assure you.

But at least I can deal easily with a cheeky young girl.

Huh!

Uncle Ho, could you please tell Master Ho right away

today's ceremony is canceled.

- Uncle Ho, will you go and tell my father if he's there,

I'm never coming back.

- Don't say something you'll regret.

Life's tough outside.

You'll be back with your tail between your legs.

(dramatic music)

- [Phoenix] Hm!

- Mistress!

Mistress?

Mistress?

Where are you going?

- Not your business!

- [Chin Fa] But my business is your business.

- Nobody there treat me that way before.

He just called me a lousy student.

He wants me to kneel down before him

and call him master, hm!

- Hey, you should forget about him.

Don't waste your temper on a fool like that.

We'll think of a way to get rid of him, don't you worry.

- Get rid of him?

As long as he's in my house, I'm not going back there.

- Mistress, you shouldn't be saying things like that.

People will think you're afraid of him.

We must tackle him head on.

No beating about the bush.

He knows he's in the wrong.

He'll soon get himself out of the house.

Mistress, I promise.

If I don't get ride of Tan Hai-chi

in the next three days, then name is not Ai Chin Fa.

- You never keep a single promise.

If you don't get rid of that man by tomorrow morning,

don't bother me again.

- (laughing) You don't have to wait 'til tomorrow.

I can see to it today that you don't come back.

- So it's you.

What's wrong?

I see you brought company with you.

- I'm his brother, Dong Dong.

- You better listen to what I say.

Nobody over there gets in our way in this town.

I'm gonna skin you alive or my name's not Ding Dong.

- Dong Dong, we're the brothers Dong Dong.

- We're the brothers

Dong Dong. - Dong Dong and Ding Dong,

haven't you had enough fighting for now?

You still want more?

That why you brought your friend along with you?

Let's forget it.

- You dumb girl.

I'll cut your tongue out for that!

- That'll shut you up for sure.

- Huh!

(suspenseful music)

Hey, I thought we warned you not to go around boasting.

Didn't ya see that the mistress is in a foul temper today?

So, if you're smart, you better get the hell out

because otherwise, ha, huh...

Huh?

What are you doing, dirty?

(braid smacks)

Oh!

You know how to use that.

- But of course.

I know more than just a whip.

(fists thudding) (men grunting)

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

I didn't known she kicked so good.

Why didn't you tell me before?

- If I told you you wouldn't have come to help me.

(kicks thudding) - Ow!

- Easy, let's find out how good her Kung Fu is.

- Right.

(bells ringing)

(brothers grunting)

(Phoenix chuckles)

What's so funny?

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- I'm not going to show you the mole kick.

(kicks thudding) (men groaning)

That's a ground kick.

(kick thuds)

Oh, ow, my foot!

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- You damn girl.

Now I'll give you a taste of the Ding Dong style.

That'll get rid of your smile for ya.

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- [Chin Fa] Oh!

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

(brothers laughing)

- That's far enough.

I'd better tell you, we've got a new master now.

He's one of the top fighters around.

Tan Hai-chi, king of the North.

If you dare come any nearer towards us,

he'll kick both your brains in!

- Who's your master?

(dramatic music)

Gentlemen, when you're dealing with idiots like these,

it's important they understand

they need to show you respect.

- Master Tan, how come you're on their side?

- Why can't I be on their side?

Hey, mister, what's stopping you?

Get stuck in.

- Huh?

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

Master Tan, what do you want to kill Mistress for?

Mistress! - Hey, come back.

(kicks thudding)

- Oh, Mistress!

- I'm right about you.

And if you make trouble with such bad Kung Fu,

you're gonna end up dead.

(fists and kicks thudding)

- Master Tan you can't just stand there

and watch Mistress get beaten.

- Well, she's got it coming.

(fist thuds) (Phoenix grunts)

- Mistress!

- Mistress, how do you feel now?

Do you want me to teach you some real Kung Fu?

- I don't wanna learn from you.

(arms and legs whooshing)

- Mistress, how do you feel?

Do you wanna go back home now?

- You're dreaming.

I'm not going back with you.

Hiii!

- [Chin Fa] Mistress!

- I'm sure you're aware there's a fate

that's worse than death.

Well, gentlemen, don't you think it would be a waste

to kill such a beautiful young woman?

- That's right. - That's right.

Our friend is talking sense.

- We could take her home with us.

- Grr. - Ya.

(fighters grunting)

- Dumb girl, I'm gonna teach you a good lesson

for fighting me.

- Hey (punch thuds) you bastard, go easy.

She and I fight first.

Get out.

(suspenseful music)

- [Chin Fa] Master Tan!

Mistress!

- Mistress, this is your last chance.

Now are you gonna come home?

(fighters grunting)

- Mistress!

Ask Master for help.

Oh!

- [Phoenix] I wanna go home!

I wanna go home!

- And will you obey me, all my orders?

- [Phoenix] Yes, I will!

- Call me Master?

- Master!

- You won't change your mind?

- No, I won't.

Please help me, Master.

- All right.

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Bastard! - My friend,

what the hell are you doin'?

- You stay outta this!

- You're hurting one of my students.

I can't allow that.

(kicks thudding) (brothers grunting)

- Right. - Together, come on.

(kick smacks)

- [Ding Dong] I can't make it.

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- [Dong Dong] Ouch, that smarts.

- Ha!

Out!

- You'll see, we'll be back.

- And we'll get you.

(soft music)

- Chin Fa? - Yeah?

- Let's go home.

(suspenseful orchestral music)

(men grunting) (wood splitting)

- [Brothers] Master! Master!

Master! Master!

- [Dong Dong] Oh Master, Master.

- [Brothers] Master. Master.

- All right, get up.

Students, who has made such a mess of your face?

- That goddamn girl Phoenix Ho

and her new teacher, Master Tan Hai-chi.

- You two are good for nothin'.

All you can do is make trouble.

He wouldn't have fought you without a reason.

You never practice hard.

It's your fault you're beaten.

(men whimpering)

- Of course you're right, Master.

It's our fault we got beaten.

We deserved it!

- But we did it for your honor.

We didn't mind doin' it for you.

- Right, right.

- You did it for me?

- But they were insulting you.

That said your style of Kung Fu wasn't good

and they called you a useless fighter.

- We had to take action.

If you'd been there, too,

you would've been beaten up as well.

But we felt we had to do something to protect your name.

We weren't gonna stand by and just do nothing.

We can't let them go on insulting you.

That's why we took them on even though (mumbles).

- That's right.

They also said that even if Master Nu was there, too,

they'd beat him as well.

- Did they actually say that?

- [Brothers] Master!

Have we ever lied to you?

You know you can trust us.

- Good.

Ding Dong, Dong Dong, I want you to fix a date with him.

I'll soon sort this guy out.

(suspenseful orchestral music)

- Excuse me, are you by any chance Master Nu?

What do you want to challenge me here for?

- You king of the North?

- That's right.

- I heard people sayin' that you look down on me.

That's why I wanna challenge you.

- Master Nu, I don't understand what you're talkin' about.

- Tan Hai-chi, I'll bet you're shakin' in your boots.

- [Dong dong] That's right.

What do you say to his face?

Go on!

- Master Nu, do you believe everything

that your students tell you?

- You've got another explanation?

- Well, at least you should hear me out first.

I never fight anyone without a reason.

- Now what are you tryin' to say?

That our master is just making trouble?

- Right!

How dare you say that.

You deliberately beat us.

It was quite intentional.

- You know they're my students

and yet you deliberately went ahead and beat them.

I must get revenge for them.

That's why I've challenged you today. (grunting)

(arms whooshing)

Ahh!

(fists smacking) (men grunting)

- Master Tan told you not to come.

He'll be mad if he finds out you disobeyed him.

He's bound to punish you.

- Well, we've never seen a real fight before, have we?

So I don't think we should miss such a good chance.

Maybe he's all words, no action.

(arms smacking) (men grunting)

(fist thuds)

(brothers laughing)

(fists and kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(kick thuds loudly)

- Huh?

- (wheezing) Hm, you ain't nothin' special.

- I don't reckon you can hurt me much.

(kicks and fists thudding) (men grunting)

- Master Tan's kick is fantastic.

- What's so great?

We haven't learned it.

If we hadn't seen him use it today,

we'd never have known about it.

(fists thudding) (men grunting)

(kick thuds)

(dramatic music)

- Huh?

(fists thudding loudly)

Huh?

(Master Nu growling)

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(fists thudding) (men grunting)

You can't breathe anymore, so you can't fight anymore.

(foot thudding into face)

(Master Nu gasping)

Master Nu, you've lost.

- I concede defeat to you.

(suspenseful music)

- [Man] Hey, who are you?

(kicks thudding) (men shouting)

- Mister, who are you?

How dare you come here and bully our people.

- The name's Ping Pa.

- (gasps) The ground kicker.

- That's right.

I've come here looking for someone.

Tan Hai-chi.

- The master left here quite a long time ago.

What do you want?

- He killed my brother Ping Fe.

I want my revenge.

So just tell me where he is and I'll spare your life.

Otherwise I'll kill you all.

- I don't know.

And even if I did I wouldn't tell ya.

(dramatic music)

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Talk.

Where can I find Tan Hai-chi?

- I don't know!

- Talk!

Come on!

- I really don't know.

He got a letter from Mo Ku Feng and then he left.

(kicks thudding) (man grunting)

- Mo Ku Feng?

- Maybe I'll become better.

- Are you really gonna take him on as master?

- Right.

I have to learn his three special kicks.

End with the mole kick I've been taught,

maybe I can beat him.

(soft music)

- What's going on here?

(Master Ho chuckles)

- Master Tan, I've been up all night

and now I've finally made up my mind.

I wanna learn from you.

I wanna be a good fighter.

- It won't be that easy being my student.

You must always obey me.

Think you can take it?

- I can take it.

- Good.

I'll take you on as my student.

Now, bow down.

- Yes.

(rhythmic traditional music)

- To your master.

Oh, huh, here.

I hope you're being quite sincere.

Besides, I never wanna take a student away from Mo.

- (chuckles) That's all right.

That's no problem.

- Mo's kick's flexible, but the turn kick is direct.

You take fast.

Your skill with the kick has improved.

Very soon you'll be top class.

But don't forget basics.

Speed, accuracy.

You're not fast enough.

You need to build up your strength.

If you don't have any strength in you,

even though you land on target, it won't hurt.

So you've got to get strength

and control it, and there are two ways of going about it.

This is one way.

Chin Fa.

- Huh?

Oh. (whimpering)

Master Tan, please don't use all your strength.

- Don't worry, I won't hurt you.

Ha!

(kicks thudding)

All your strength's in your legs.

(kick thuds) (Chin Fa groans)

- Oh my God, no.

Mistress, my head hurts.

- The other way.

Ha! (kick thuds)

(Chin Fa groaning)

- You're kicking me half to death.

- Don't worry, you're protected.

You won't die.

If I kill you now, who's gonna bring me tea?

(Chin Fa laughs)

Phoenix, did ya notice you don't have to practice anymore.

You aim, you kick straight for the sandbag.

Use full force.

- [Phoenix] Yes.

- Master, you're teaching her to kick.

What am I supposed to learn?

- How to stand being beaten.

And you're learning fast.

(suspenseful music)

- Chin Fa, don't worry.

You've got the sand bag.

You're not getting hurt.

- The sandbag, right.

I'll hold it tight.

Come on.

(kicks thudding)

- The first way, just a touch.

Now I go the other way.

(kicks thudding)

- (laughs) I can take this, easy.

You can't shift me.

Come on.

(kick thuds)

Oh my God, no.

Master Tan told you to kick the bag.

He didn't say kick me in the face.

- Speed is the greatest source of strength.

And if you're able to combine the two,

speed and strength, the impact will almost double.

(kicks thudding against wood) (Hai-chi grunting)

(Phoenix and Chin Fa groaning)

Now practice like I told you.

- Chin Fa, it is really quite simple.

You watch me.

(kicks thudding against wood)

(wood smacking flesh) (Phoenix groans)

(Chin Fa laughing)

- Mistress, I thought you said it was easy. (laughs)

Oh!

(bar thuds) Oh!

- If You combine strength and speed,

and your kick's accurate, you'll find no one can resist you.

(kicks thudding) (Hai-chi grunting)

Phoenix, now you've built up your speed and strength,

we'll try accuracy.

- Come on!

- All right, watch this.

(kicks thudding) (Phoenix grunting)

- [Chin Fa] Oh!

- [Mrs. Mo] My dear, have a cup of tea.

The kettle's just boiled.

- (chuckles) My dear, you mustn't tire yourself out.

You still need to rest.

- I can't just stay in bed the whole day.

I can't stand doing nothing.

I'd rather move about.

(suspenseful music)

(door clattering) - Ha!

(Mo chuckling)

- What are you doing here?

Are you a thief?

- Are you Mo Ku Feng?

- (laughs) At least you know who I am,

but I don't know you.

I suppose I should be flattered, hm?

Who are you?

- Hm.

Peng Pa.

- Oh?

(chuckles) So you're the head of the ground kick style.

That's why you were able to knock my door down

with just one blow.

- Old man, I'm not wasting my time with you.

Now tell me, where can I find Tan Hai-chi?

- Huh? Tan Hai-chi?

What do you want from him?

- You don't have to know the reason.

Just tell me where he is, where he's staying.

That'll be enough.

- It doesn't take Much guess work on our part

to figure you ain't a friend of his,

so even if I know, I would never tell you.

- Old bastard, I think I'm gonna have

to soften you up a bit.

Get him!

(fists and kicks thudding) (men grunting)

- (laughs) Did you think it would be that easy?

- Your kick is really very good,

but not quite good enough.

- What's that?

You're a fool.

(men grunting)

I can take care of you anytime I want to.

(fist thuds)

(men grunting) (arms whooshing)

(fists thudding) (Mo grunting)

(laughs) Young feller, you should show some respect

to your elders.

Can't you see that I'm an old man now?

I'm not so energetic anymore.

- You're too old.

About time you died.

(men grunting)

- [Mrs. Mo] My dear! (grunts)

(fighters grunting)

(Mrs. Mo cries out)

(dramatic music) - My dear!

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Huh.

Old man, all you gotta do is say where Tan Hai-chi is.

And just maybe you can kiss your wife goodbye

before she dies.

- Ha!

(fists and kicks thudding) (men grunting)

- Are you gonna tell me where I can find Tan Hai-chi now?

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(pottery breaking)

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

Now, Mo, I'm warning you.

This is your last chance.

- You're dreaming.

(kick thuds) (Mo grunts)

(Mo groaning)

(dramatic orchestral music)

- Master, you killed Mo, our only lead.

What'll we do, huh?

- Mo made a living teaching Kung Fu.

He's only been back here a month.

Go and check.

Find out where he's been teaching before

and see if that turns up any clues.

- Sir.

(soft orchestral music)

(kicks thudding) (Phoenix grunting)

- Huh?

Mistress, what's that called?

- The style is called, the upside down style.

- [Waiter] There you are.

- Hey, waiter.

We're looking for somebody.

- Oh, in that case you've come to the right man

'cause I know everyone there is to know.

Who are you looking for?

- I heard there's a guy in this town good at Kung Fu.

Name's Tan Hai-chi.

Where does he live?

- Tan Hai-chi?

Can't say I know him.

- Bastard.

You lyin' to me?

Speak up!

(waiter groaning) - Speak up

or I'll bust your ass!

- [Waiter] Oh, I don't know!

Really I don't.

- [Man] Talk!

Where's Tan Hai-chi?

- [Waiter] I don't know him!

Really I don't. - Talk!

- [Waiter] I don't know him.

I told you already. - Just talk!

- Oh no, please! - You better talk.

- Hey, mister!

You lookin' for Tan?

- That's right.

Who the hell are you?

- I am Lu, but everybody calls me Mr. Ding Dong.

He's my young brother.

- Dong Dong.

- You've got a funny name.

You know where Tan Hai-chi is?

- Well, it all depends on whether

you're a friend or an enemy.

- He killed our second master.

Ya think he's our enemy or a good friend?

- Wonderful!

I'll take you to him personally

if you're going to kill him.

- We'll pay you $1000 reward.

But there is one condition.

- What is it?

(brothers laugh)

- There's a girl staying there called Phoenix.

You're going to leave her to us.

- Right.

- Chin Fa, hold on tight.

Now, watch this kick closely.

Hi!

- Mistress, can you do it straight?

You're kickin' me in the face.

- Nonsense.

You should have more confidence in me.

The first one, the circular kick.

(kicks thudding) (Phoenix and Chin Fa grunting)

Second one, the kick of the throat.

(fists and kicks thudding) (Chin Fa groaning)

- Mistress, no more kicking now.

You do, I'll end up dying.

(men laughing)

- You're dead now.

But at least there will be no more pain.

- Dumb girl, you're Kung Fu (mumbles).

- Ding Dong, Dong Dong, so it's you two again.

I might've guessed.

So, what's your game this time?

- These gentlemen wanna see your master.

- Where's Tan Hai-chi?

- [Phoenix] Who do you think you are?

How dare you mention my master's name so rudely, huh?

- Hey, Master is not here.

Perhaps I can help.

What do you want?

- I'm not interested in small fry.

I won't bother with you.

Where's Tan Hai-chi?

- Ha!

You look down on me?

You take me for a fool?

- My friend, if we take them, the master is sure to follow.

- And the reward's still on.

- Yeah, that's right.

- Hey, this is a living target practice.

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Chin Fa, are you all right?

- I won't get hurt with the sandbags.

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Is that all you can show me?

You'll have to do better.

(kicks whooshing) (men grunting)

What style do you call that?

Falling on the floor?

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

(bone snapping)

- We better leave.

- As fast as we can.

- Well, let's go. - Let's go.

(kicks thudding) (man groaning)

- [Chin Fa] Where are you going to, gentlemen, eh?

- We've stood too long.

We're gettin' tired.

We must move around.

- Your legs?

What the hell's the matter with you?

Have you gone soft?

Maybe my mistress should have another talk with you.

(men grunting)

- And no, we don't want anymore trouble.

- I'll just go off by myself, then.

- You can stay here.

I want to find out what you two are like

when you team up together.

- Huh?

Do we have to fight? - Do we have to fight?

- Maybe you won't have to.

If you get down on your knees

and bow down before me three times.

- [Brothers] Sorry, sorry. (shouting)

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

(Phoenix giggles)

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Oh, don't kick me!

- [Ding Dong] Let's go.

(kicks and fists thudding) (fighters grunting)

- You're going the wrong way.

She's over there.

(kicks whooshing) (brothers whimpering)

- Mistress.

Please have mercy on us. - Have mercy on us.

Please spare us. - Spare us, please.

- Agree never to bully people again.

- [Brothers] We will never do it again.

- It's all your fault.

(hand smacks)

- You dare hit me?

(hand smacks)

(hands smacking)

- It's your fault. - It's your fault.

- It's yours. - It's yours.

- It's you. - it's you.

- That's enough.

Don't be such stupid fools.

Get lost.

- Yeah, thank you, Mistress. - Thank you, Mistress.

- Oh, thank you. - Thank you.

- [Brothers] Let's go.

(brothers whimpering)

(hands smacking) - Ow!

- Mistress, you're real good.

Your kick's so powerful.

- Of course it is.

Hey, you think it's as good as Master's?

- Ha, you're much better than he is.

He's king of the North.

You're queen of the South.

(suspenseful orchestral music)

- Are you sure that Tan Hai-chi is in there?

- Yes, I'm sure.

- All right, tonight, deliver this note to him.

Tan Hai-chi, at dawn tomorrow morning,

I'll be waiting for you at Green Water Lake

to settle our differences.

If you don't come, don't blame me for anything that happens.

Ping Pa.

- Master Ho, honestly, I don't want you to get involved.

It's my own affair.

I can deal with it.

- Hai-chi, I'm a friend of yours, you can tell me.

What is the quarrel you've got with him?

- Peng Pa is chief of the Ground King Kung Fu School.

He's jealous of me.

By accident I killed his brother.

So that he's determined to get revenge.

- Isn't there any compromise you can arrive at?

- There are some things between fighters

you will never understand.

- I see.

Then tomorrow, do you think you can beat him?

(Hai-chi grunts)

Hai-chi, if you are not confident,

why not go away for a while?

- That's no use.

If I hid today, he'd be back tomorrow.

Besides, if I do leave here, Ping Pa will really

lose his temper and he's likely

to take it out on all of you.

- Master, don't worry.

Mistress is Mr. Tan's student.

She can look after them easily

while Master Tan concentrates on dealing with Ping Pa.

- You're wrong there.

Anyway you aren't any judge of a man's Kung Fu.

I'm not certain I can defeat Ping Pa.

- All right, then we'll come along with you.

- Right, all together.

- No need.

From what I know of Ping Pa, he's a mean son of a bitch.

If he does manage to defeat me,

he's sure to turn around and kill you as well.

Besides, if I'm not sure I'm gonna win,

you guys won't make any difference.

- Unh, but...

- Chin Fa, don't get any smart ideas

or I'll kick you up the ass hard.

- I won't.

And I'll tell Mistress not to as well.

If not, you can kick my ass.

(suspenseful orchestral music)

- So, you are Tan Hai-chi.

- Hm, Ping Pa.

Hey!

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(suspenseful orchestral music)

(Ping Pa cackling)

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(suspenseful orchestral music)

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

- Don't you know any other techniques?

You're running out of time.

If you got some.

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

(suspenseful music)

(chuckles) Tan Hai-chi, if I didn't think

I could defeat your three special kicks,

I wouldn't have challenged you today

since no one else knows your style.

Once I have got rid of ya, then there will be

no other exponent of the art left.

And now you're gonna pay for my brother's death.

Ha!

(kicks thudding) (men grunting)

- Nine birds style.

- You're not completely dumb,

but you are no match for my secret fist.

Better make your peace, huh, because you're gonna die.

Ha!

(fists and kick thud)

(Hai-chi groaning)

(fists thudding) (men grunting)

(kicks thudding)

Huh?

- Phoenix!

You keep out of this.

It's none of your business.

- Master!

- Master, he's only small fry.

Leave him, I'll take care of him.

- (chuckles) So, your two students have arrived

to give you a hand.

They're just in time.

Now I'll avenge myself on the three of ya.

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Chin Fa, are you all right?

- I'm fine.

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- Huh? (Phoenix gasps)

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- [Ping Fe] Hey! Ha-hoo!

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

- [Chin Fa] Mistress! Oh!

- Chin Fa!

Chin Fa, Chin Fa, are you all right?

- I'm fine. (coughs)

I've my sandbags to protect me.

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

Mistress! Oh!

(fists and kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

(Ping Pa shouts)

(suspenseful music)

(Ping Pa shouting)

(kick thuds)

- Mistress, upside down!

(Ping Pa shouting)

(kick thuds) (Phoenix shouts)

- [Hai-Chi] Hi-ya!

(Ping Pa groaning)

- Ha!

(kicks thudding) (Ping Pa grunting)

- [Hai-Chi] Hi-ya!

(Ping Pa groaning)

(kicks thudding) (fighters grunting)

(everyone shouting)

(dramatic orchestral music)
