[VO] Previously on Beauty and the Billionaire...
You've been stealing from me, O'Brien.
It's industrial espionage, Dad.
What were you thinking?
I wasn't.
How will I ever get out of this?
I'll go see Mr. Flynn tomorrow.
We got another one.
[Pearce] Anything from the initial scans?
No chemicals or explosives.
She used to be a cop.
[Pearce] What if we had someone who could blend in?
Be that last line of defense without anyone realizing it.
Her?
A former detective on the force for eight years.
Mr. Pearce, my head of security, has an idea.
If you agree, I won't press charges.
You join our security team to help protect Mr. Flynn here.
In an undercover role.
As his assistant.
OK.
Jess, who is she, really?
Stop pretending you didn't use me back there
to make her jealous.
If that's how you feel, the deal is off.
Part of me knew you'd do this.
Go back on your word.
Derek, tell Pearce his idea failed.
[tense music]
The window.
Get back. - Are you insane?
Stay behind me!
[tense music]
He slipped past us, but I did find a glimpse of him
on the surveillance footage.
One of the perimeter fence cameras.
When did he get on the property?
Four hours ago.
No cameras inside the house?
No.
Did you find when he left?
Yes.
Well, how long was he here then?
Eight minutes.
In through that window, though the camera
didn't catch him till he was further from the house.
That's fast.
That's good, right?
He wasn't here that long.
He knew where to go pretty quickly.
How?
It could have been someone who's already been here.
It's also easy enough to track down construction plans.
Or he got lucky and he just found his way to the room
without being detected.
At least you weren't here.
That makes it better?
He's still only trying to scare you.
He was here.
When are you going to put a stop to this?
And how incompetent are you?
He might as well have come through the front door.
Rita, can you give Mason a drink, please?
I don't need a drink.
I need this guy caught.
Derek, keep an eye on him, OK?
The police should process this.
No.
Why not call them?
He doesn't want that kind of attention.
We'll do it. - But...
Excuse me.
You said, "still trying to scare Mason."
This isn't the first time.
What's really going on?
A few months ago, threats began showing up.
What type?
Letters.
Always a public photo of Mason with a message.
This is the first escalation.
And you never took it to the police?
What can they do?
A lot.
Do you really believe that?
You won't know until you try.
We've had the threats analyzed, gone over footage,
tracked down leads.
I have contacts in law enforcement,
and nothing has turned up.
No answers.
Do you have any idea who might be behind this?
Anyone holding a grudge?
We have some ideas and suspects,
but none that are likely.
When were you going to tell me?
[scoffs]
Incredible.
Mason is adamant.
No one outside knows.
He just wants to...
Control the world.
I got it.
He doesn't know you well enough yet to trust you.
[pensive music]
Hey.
You've been armed this whole time?
How else did you think I was going to protect you?
I didn't think you were that capable.
So, now you know.
Not enough.
You know more than Elaine.
She doesn't know about the threats.
And I don't want her to know about tonight.
All right?
OK.
I'm sure Pearce has asked, but have
you thought of any reason why you're receiving these threats?
Nothing that makes enough sense.
No one who wants to hurt you or who you've upset?
So you're saying this might be my fault?
That the best you can do?
Sometimes, there's no reason at all.
But I'd rather ask.
You've... you've seen something like this before?
Not really.
I have seen worse, though.
That's supposed to make me feel better?
Maybe a little.
[sighs]
I'm going to bed.
I don't think your room's a good spot for tonight.
I have eight other bedrooms.
[whispers] Of course you do.
Oh, by the way, you're not fired.
[TV announcer] But only one of them
will walk away undefeated today.
Hi.
Kind of a late night, huh.
Or did you go out?
No, work.
Oh, sorry.
Uh, Nick stopped by.
Oh.
Did he wait long? - No.
Hey, does he know about me and, uh, work?
No.
OK.
Thanks.
Why don't you come sit down?
Relax for a bit.
Oh, all I want to do right now is shower and go to bed.
You want some dinner?
I warmed up a lasagna.
- No, thanks. - OK.
Good night, honey. - Good night, Dad.
[sighs]
[phone buzzing]
Hello.
[man on phone] Jess, where are you?
You haven't checked in for your patrol tonight.
I am so sorry. I am so sorry.
I just got home from my other...
never mind.
I'm... I'm headed right out.
[soft dramatic music]
[cat purring]
Hey.
Come here.
Here.
All right.
Moving on.
Good morning, Mason.
How was your evening?
Fine.
PR confirmed the interview on Monday
is a go in time for the earbuds product launch.
Good.
Your father called.
What did he want?
To remind you of racquetball this afternoon?
Did you tell him I was busy?
No.
He left a message.
I was away from the desk when he called.
Give me an update on the pre-sale numbers.
Mr. Park is putting those together now
for your meeting this morning.
Brooke, hi.
Nice dress.
Thanks I got it from someone who has really great taste.
Hey, how's it going with Mason and you know?
Could be better.
Did you hear about last night?
The incident at his house?
Yeah.
Pearce was furious.
So was Mason, at least at first.
Really shook him up.
I bet.
I'm glad you're there protecting him.
Hopefully, today is quieter.
Yeah.
Keep up the good work.
You should be here before Mason arrives.
I was with him till late last night.
Ugh.
Not like that.
I don't want to know.
As long as you pull your weight around here.
I do.
Really?
So far, it seems like he just hired you for your looks.
Rumor has it he broke up with his girlfriend recently.
It's none of my business.
Look, you can catch Mason's eye all you want...
I mean it, he doesn't see me like that.
But if you want to keep working here,
you better be here early tomorrow.
Fine.
Get to work.
Um, Mason, anything you need?
My racquetball gear is at my house.
Have it sent here.
I'll call right away.
And I need tickets to a show tonight.
Which one?
Doesn't matter.
Whatever has box seats.
Jess, you're coming along.
Of course.
I'll notify Mr. Pearce so he can prepare as well.
Well, if Elaine had any doubts
about us being in a relationship,
they are certainly gone now.
We're in a relationship?
The theater tickets, you know what you did.
I want to go out tonight and you're
a better plus one than Marco.
You are making everything so much harder for me.
I don't even like plays.
You don't even have to watch.
You're supposed to be just watching me anyway.
Shipments are out to stores.
All set for the release next week,
and the selection of colors is proving to gain interest.
Which is most popular so far in pre-sales?
The metallic gray and the turquoise after that.
And vendor orders are at?
612,000 units.
That's it?
It's only 9% lower than our projections.
You think that's a good thing?
It's taken longer to gain traction than we thought.
The brand itself isn't reason enough for orders to pour in.
Then you haven't done what you need to.
The sports electronics line should
be thriving with this launch.
I want orders 9% over our projections, not under.
[phone buzzing]
Hey.
There you are.
I'm sorry.
I keep missing you.
It's been a strange week.
Why?
I'm working a second job to help out my dad.
Is everything OK?
Yeah.
He felt like it was time to try something new.
Wow. Uh...
OK.
I gotta say, I am not loving the extra stress
that puts on you.
I know, but...
[Nick on phone] No, he's your dad.
I get it.
Is there anything I can do to help?
[woman] Hey, Nick. Is this it?
No, no no, no, not that one.
Get me the last set of mockups.
Just don't overdo it, then, OK?
- Was that to me? - Yes.
Oh, yeah.
Thank you.
And how about dinner tomorrow?
That sounds great.
There's a lot of competition in sports electronics.
It's normal for it to take time to gain traction.
That's not good enough.
For you or your father?
I've put a lot into this for it to succeed.
Even your own image.
Don't start.
I'm the face of this company.
Well, it doesn't mean you have to be
the face of each product.
That was marketing's idea.
They thought my popularity would help.
Well, popularity is fleeting, and you having money only
means that people want to be you,
but also stab you in the back.
Thanks that's very comforting.
Next time you can do all the photo shoots and marketing.
No, thank you.
[man on phone] The knife is very generic, nothing special,
and probably bought online.
And the blood?
[man on phone] Cow blood.
Ugh.
[man on phone] I know.
Any letters this time?
No.
Message got through just fine without one.
[man on phone] Well, I'll run further analysis on the blood,
but I suspect it won't lead anywhere.
Dead end.
[man on phone] Still, I'll let you know what I find.
OK, thanks.
Headed to racquetball?
Yep.
Where's Jess?
At her desk, I assume.
She's supposed to be with you.
She'd rather not be seen with me.
You know the feeling's starting to be mutual.
Besides, I have Marco.
Jess needs to be there, too.
You'd think that me being rich and famous
meant that I call the shots?
Well, she proved herself last night,
and that's all the more reason she stick with you.
Besides, you're only famous because you're rich.
You're the second person today
to put down having a fortune. [phone buzzes]
She's on her way.
Good.
Enjoy.
I won't.
Just try to stay out of the way here.
Seen, not heard type of thing.
OK.
Do you play often?
What did I just say?
We're not even there yet.
I play only when necessary.
Why?
It's an older generation sport,
kept up for its prestige, if you could call it that.
I'd rather play other sports.
But my dad and his friends think this is the way to go.
What ever happened to golf?
Golf is a game you play when you want
time to talk and close deals.
And racquetball is?
The game you play when you want to crush someone?
Have you tried pickleball?
I'm going to pretend you didn't ask me that.
[grunting]
[upbeat music]
Ooh, that was lucky.
It was a good shot.
Curt win again.
Well, I almost won.
He did.
Is that Mason's father?
Yeah.
The other one is?
Curt.
He's a family friend.
Both are on the board of Mason's company.
So last night, Mason was upset, understandably.
But today, he's back to being rude, indifferent.
Is that normal?
It's hard to say.
Because it's Mason?
Everyone's different.
Hard to predict how we all will react.
I was security for this one guy.
Someone rushed him.
He started talking in a lower voice
after that for like, three days.
Lower like quieter?
No, like lower octave.
[chuckles] OK.
Some people get upset, some people shut down,
and some people just move forward.
Maybe it's healthy.
You've seen it, haven't you?
Being a cop.
I guess so.
Hey, are those earbud things doing?
What are they called again? - Fly.
Yeah. That's right, it's catchy.
I heard they're not taking off.
They haven't been released yet.
One bad product can drag down a company or scar
its valuation for years.
Why are you assuming it's going to fail?
Because you're too late to the market.
Fly is different.
It's the AI integration, right?
Yeah.
But who needs AI in their headphones?
It's the next thing.
It's illogical.
You don't tag it onto every product you make
just because it's a trend.
Curt, are we playing?
I don't think I've got another match in me.
Stan might. - Nope.
I don't have time. I need to get back to the office.
Come on, Stan.
Mason's here already.
No, that's fine.
But you changed.
Not a problem.
See you later.
Bye, Mason.
You didn't get to play.
I don't really enjoy it that much.
Why go then?
Because I was summoned.
My father wanted to tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Couldn't he just have called?
You'd think so.
[phone buzzing]
Elaine got the tickets.
8 o'clock. - Good.
Er, am I OK in this for tonight?
That's 9:00 to 5:00 attire.
Do you have anything better?
Probably not.
Have Elaine get you something.
Great idea.
She won't think we're secretly dating at all.
Hey, Marco, turn right up here.
Yes, sir.
Come on. Pick something.
We don't have all day.
Er, these are a little out of my budget.
I'm buying.
Thank you, but I couldn't accept.
Why not?
It's business.
Because it's inappropriate.
And it would look like...
You know what?
Stop caring what Elaine thinks.
No, not that one.
Not your color.
Excuse me?
That's better.
No, not the dress.
Elaine.
I have to care what she thinks.
She's glaring daggers at my back.
And that's the problem.
You forget what this is.
We made a deal.
It makes you feel uncomfortable, too bad.
I'm not coming on to you.
I'm just trying to help you fit in.
Excuse me.
Can I try this on?
Of course.
You're right.
You're right. I shouldn't care
what Elaine or anyone thinks.
Glad you see things my way.
You know just for that...
Could I get a pair of shoes too, please?
Yes.
Yes, it's already on his schedule.
I'll call with any changes.
All right.
[phone buzzing]
Hey, Dad.
I got an interview.
That's great!
What's the job?
It's at a restaurant.
Um, doing what?
Well, it's working in the kitchen,
but I have always wanted to learn how to cook more.
Um, OK.
I know. I know.
It's not an obvious fit.
[Jess on phone] Does it pay well?
Uh, no, but I figure we can
make it work for a while, right?
Maybe you should make pay part of the search criteria.
But you're happy for me, though, aren't you?
Yeah, but why don't you look for something
you actually have experience in?
Because I don't think I can get anything
like that around here.
People talk.
They'll... they'll know.
Oh.
So no on the restaurant?
If it's what do you want to do, I think it's great.
We'll just have to see if it helps out enough financially.
[clears throat]
Oh, Dad, I gotta go.
Yeah, I'll...
I'll tell you more about it tonight.
Actually, don't wait up. I'm going to be late.
Again?
Or, or is this for fun?
[sighs] Dad, I gotta go.
[Gordon on phone] All right.
Love you. - Love you.
Good night, Mr. Pearce.
Elaine.
Mason is just finishing up a call.
Thank you.
Whoa, you look nice.
Thank you.
I think I'd feel more comfortable
in my police uniform.
Understood.
I'm sure the shoes don't help.
Oh, I am regretting the shoes, but don't tell Mason.
OK.
All right, let's go.
[indistinct chatter]
Would you like me to look for our seats?
- No. - [Duke] Mason.
Good to see you.
How are things?
Busy.
Elizabeth.
Oh, that's right. You dated this guy.
A mistake in judgment.
You'll see.
Oh, we're not...
Jess, you remember Elizabeth.
And this is...
Duke Sinclair.
A pleasure.
Sinclair.
You've heard of me.
I'm flattered.
Not good things, so don't be.
So you're here to see the new actress tonight?
She's beautiful.
Lots of buzz about her.
Mm, sounds like your type.
No, not tonight.
Not with Elizabeth here.
Oh, it's so nice to be appreciated.
One of the benefits of being with a more mature man.
Mm, mature, geriatric.
However you want to phrase it.
[chuckles] Oh, age jokes.
That's funny and petty, Mason.
Maybe you're jealous.
Of course, you can't say that with this
lovely guest on your arm.
- We have to go find our seats. - Enjoy the show.
I can't imagine you'll find much time to relax after this.
Why is that?
Oh, I'm sure things at the office keep you plenty busy.
Lots of stress.
Although I imagine Brooke Tremaine
does most of the heavy lifting.
Must be nice having someone do your job for you.
Why don't you focus on your own business, Duke.
Maybe if you do, you won't have to try and steal mine.
Nice to meet you.
[orchestral music]
That was him.
Yep.
He manipulated my dad.
Or one of his minions did, but yeah.
Is it bad that I hate him?
You're not alone.
If it weren't for him, my dad would still have a job,
and I wouldn't...
[orchestral music]
Wow you weren't kidding about not liking theater.
I have no idea what's happening in the story.
You want me to tell you?
No, I'm supposed to be looking out for you, remember?
Right.
See anything suspicious?
Just Duke Sinclair eyeing you every now and again.
Is he looking at me or you?
Why would he be looking at me?
Ugh, now they're both looking this way.
It's kind of creepy.
Yeah.
All right, let's get out of here.
Not your favorite show?
Bored.
Home then.
How about dinner?
Actually, it's late, and I have a commitment--
I'm starving.
Good evening. Is there anything I can get started for you?
What specials are there?
We had a filet, but we are sold out of that.
And there was a mushroom gnocchi,
but that might be out as well.
Oh, is there any food left?
Yes, of course, there is.
Are you sure? Do you want to go check?
It's been a busy night.
I would like the lemon basil pasta, please.
Is chicken OK with that?
We are out of the shrimp.
Wow, seriously?
It's fine.
I guess I'll have the same thing
assuming there's enough of it left.
Of course.
You didn't have to be rude.
They're out of everything. It's bad business.
It's late.
Not really. She didn't even asked for our drinks?
[jazz music plays]
Well, that was disappointing.
I thought it was good.
There's actually a good place for drinks not far from here.
Let's go.
Wait. [phone buzzing]
Hello.
[man on phone] You're not on your shift.
Sorry. Things are running just a little
behind with another commitment I have tonight.
[man on phone] I can't just call someone else
up to fill in at this hour. It's Friday night.
I know. I am trying to finish up here, but I...
[man on phone] When I hired you, you said you were reliable.
I am.
[man on phone] Then get to your patrol.
-I'm trying. -[man on phone] Try harder.
If the clients complain, I'm taking it out of your paycheck.
Sorry.
[club music plays]
Want anything?
Why are we here?
I'm thirsty.
Well, aren't you tired?
I mean, today was a long day, and last night
couldn't have been restful.
Where is the waiter?
Mason.
Don't get anything then.
Just sit there and keep watch.
Is he ever going to call it a night?
Eventually.
Hey, Pearce, isn't that one club around here
the one Elizabeth liked?
Yes, it's not the safest environment.
I'd prefer it if...
It's an impromptu stop.
No one's hanging out there on the chance I show up.
I'm sure it's not even open.
That place is open till the sun comes up.
Let's go.
[heavy beat music]
This place is a dump.
It's fine.
Just wait till we get inside.
Don't you have meetings tomorrow?
You do have that trip on Monday.
See, you should get some rest.
Will you stop being my mother?
- Mason, I have to get to work. - You are at work.
No, I have another job that I am late for again.
And I just wish...
[car backfires] Mason?
[Pearce] Car!
It just backfired, that's all.
You all right?
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm fine.
It's OK.
It's nothing.
OK, let's get you home.
No, I'm fine.
Come on. This will be fun.
Let's go.
Can I have a minute with him, please?
Yes, please.
What are you doing?
Are you kidding me right now?
Why are you holding my arm? - You're stalling.
What?
Going home, you're avoiding it.
I didn't realize it before.
I'm having a night out.
No, you're dragging out the night
so you don't have to go back to a place where someone broke in.
That's... that's not--
You kept acting like it was business as usual today,
but it's not.
I don't have time for your nagging.
That and your charm was in full force today.
But it's partly how you cover up the truth.
You don't want to go home because you
don't feel safe there.
So what?
I don't want to go home.
Happy?
Of course not.
Did being in one of your other rooms not help?
Nope.
Pearce added extra guys around the house.
As if that's going to make a difference.
Look, I wish nothing had happened,
but you can't avoid going home forever.
I know. I... I'm...
I keep thinking, what if I'm there when he comes back?
Maybe you could stay in a hotel.
There's always your parents' house.
I'd rather sleep in that dumpster.
OK.
Then... then where?
Is there anywhere else you can go?
Never mind. We can go back to my house.
Are you sure?
Pearce, let's go.
[pensive music]
[phone ringing]
Hello.
I'm here right now.
I know it is incredibly late.
No, no, no, no, no.
Please, please do not do that.
I... I'm here right now.
You do not understand.
I really need this job.
Please...
We leave Monday at 8:00.
Assuming the interview goes according to schedule,
we should be back here by late afternoon.
That's fine.
Is Elaine coming?
Yeah.
And I'll have Derek with me plus Jess.
OK. She knows the schedule?
I'll fill her in.
You know she's still working her job at night patrols.
Why?
Money, I'm sure.
You said she'd work for you unpaid.
Puts her in a bad spot.
It's not my problem.
But it is, because she's going to burn out.
It's only been, what, two or three days?
Two or three days working long hours
on two jobs, one of which she's supposed
to stay sharp to protect you.
Look, she's not her father.
She's a decent person, and she's trying her best, but...
But what?
Give her a break.
Fine.
[knocking on door]
- Yeah. - Sorry.
[gasps]
I overslept.
No, it's Saturday, but Mr. Pearce is here.
Oh.
Pearce.
Hey.
Um, is everything all right?
Yes.
Um, Mason has an interview on Monday and PR things
there and back in the day.
I want you to come.
OK, I'll be ready.
You did well last night.
Although, I'll admit, I was a little concerned that you
two weren't getting along.
Sorry.
But you got past that.
I think you helped him.
How was he this morning?
He's good.
Talked to him about you, actually.
Oh-oh.
He's authorized me to hire you for the time
that you're with us.
Officially.
Paid.
Are you serious?
Thank you so much.
You have no idea how much this helps.
Mm-hmm.
Sorry.
It's OK.
Rest up now.
OK.
See you Monday.
Everything OK?
Really good.
Pearce said Mr. Flynn approved me to get paid for my work.
- Oh, that's wonderful. - I know.
I can finally sleep.
Now, what do you think?
Interview?
Yeah, it's next week.
The restaurant?
No, that isn't what I thought it would be.
Which tie works?
What's the job?
Quality control manufacturing engineer.
It's testing microchips on an assembly line,
but it's something.
Good.
Er, this one then.
So how was your night?
It was interesting.
What'd you do?
I went to the theater.
Ah, anything good.
I left early, but it, um, it proved
to be an enlightening evening.
So the client finally comes around and sees that, yes,
I was right all along and the higher
roof pitch does look way better than what he said he wanted.
Some people just take longer to see the light.
Exactly.
So tell me about this new job.
There's really not much to say.
I'm just an assistant.
Well, for who?
This guy.
You don't know him.
For what kind of business?
Electronics of sorts.
I mean, they make other things, but that's mostly it.
At least he's not too hard, right?
Yeah.
Are you liking it?
Not my first choice.
You don't have to stick with it.
I gotta give it a little more time.
You ever think about going back to the precinct?
I know it got hard, but it's been a few months,
and maybe you're over it.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like...
you take whatever time.
Thank you.
Yeah, I just meant that.
Even if not now, maybe someday you'll want to go back.
You still like the feel of it, or you
wouldn't have picked up that security patrol gig, right?
About that, um, that's actually over.
Really?
No more night owl work?
I guess that's one less obligation.
Excellent!
We have more time.
We can stay out all night.
No, thank you.
But we could watch a movie on the couch.
That way, if I fall asleep, it won't be a big deal.
All right.
Good morning.
Morning.
Oh, you're here.
Good morning, Elaine.
This is amazing.
- Just pick a seat. - Oh.
Not that one.
All right, let's go.
[exciting music]
Were you able to rest better over the weekend?
Well, enough.
Good.
What's this?
I thought with everything going on,
it might help you feel better.
And what is this?
Well, it's an alarm.
Don't do it now.
But if you pull the pin, it will emit a high pitched sound.
It helps scare off attackers.
Are you serious?
Yeah.
Women use them all the time.
They're great for jogging at night, for dark parking lots.
Really?
Don't be like that.
Men can use them, too.
I thought it might be like a tiny gun or a knife
or pepper spray, at least.
Yeah, I'm hardly going to give
a gun to an untrained person.
Besides, this can get through any security check, TSA...
I'm not carrying that.
It was just an idea.
Thanks, anyways.
You're welcome.
So you... you had a lot of training,
right, with the police?
Yeah, at the academy and ongoing certifications
and all of that.
So why'd you quit?
Whole career like that, all that time invested, seems odd.
It was just time to make a change.
- That's not an answer. - Yeah, it is.
You just don't like it.
Yeah, because it's so vague, it hardly counts.
Well, I guess you're going to have to get
used to being disappointed.
I'm so glad you can make this work today.
We'll have the interview over here
on this set at the top of the hour,
but let's get you settled first.
We have you in a dressing room right here.
Great.
We have some drinks and snacks for you here,
but let me know if I can get you anything else.
I'm fine. Thanks.
Our sound technician will mic you up on set,
but I will have our makeup artist come in and take a look
and adjust anything you like.
Good.
Derek, can you check the studio and the perimeter for me?
- Yeah. - Thank you.
Elaine, where are the questions they are going to be asking?
I'll get their talking points.
Hey, so the other night at the theater, Duke Sinclair,
he was not the nicest.
It was pretty typical behavior from him.
Any chance he's behind the threats?
No, that would be a big risk.
And he's not in a position to capitalize on the fallout
if something were to happen to Mason.
Anything on the timeline of events that points to him?
Not that I've seen.
Although it's not like I can check for an alibi.
Well, I know someone who could...
my old partner at the force.
If the police start asking questions,
then Duke will figure out what's going on
and he is the last person we want knowing about this.
But what if he's the culprit?
Just cause no one likes him doesn't mean he's guilty.
Here are their questions.
Good.
Right over here, Mr. Flynn.
Hi, Michaela Shelton.
Nice to meet you.
I've been looking forward to this interview.
All right, everyone, 60 seconds!
What's this interview for?
Tomorrow is the release of the new earbuds.
This is to promote them.
Oh, OK.
Mason modeled for the campaign himself.
He's done a few other things for the athletic line, too.
Really?
He has the look for it, don't you think?
[director] OK, everyone in 6, 5, 4, 3, 2...
Good afternoon.
We have with us today, President
and CEO of Flynn Innovative Technologies, Mason Flynn.
Mason, welcome.
Thanks, Michaela.
[Michaela] So your latest Foray is
expanding your athletic line, launching the new Fly earbuds.
[Mason] Yes, hitting the shelves tomorrow.
[Michaela] Excellent.
This product takes us back a little bit more
into your electronics roots.
And for a while, we saw a deviation into sports apparel.
[Mason] Yeah, I wouldn't call it a deviation
as much as a strategic expansion
setting up for Fly earbuds in particular.
[Michaela] Well, your stock has been trending upward
in anticipation of this product,
overdue after a slump the last two quarters.
[Mason] The market has been a little bearish for everyone.
So these integrate AI as well as have a longer battery
life than the competition?
[Mason] Yes, I'm really proud of the AI.
The earbuds themselves are the source of
whatever you're listening to.
No more pairing with your music app.
They are the app.
You can go running and leave your phone behind.
You tell the earbuds to play your favorite band
and it plays.
It learns what you like and then plays that next.
Same goes for audiobooks, newsfeeds,
whatever you're listening to.
And with your phone, it switches seamlessly for calls
and back to whatever you were doing, all with voice commands.
No more awkward fumbling with your phone.
[Michaela] Fascinating.
So what is your outlook for sales?
[Mason] We're confident it'll hit the ground running.
My goal is 5% market share by year-end
and then upwards from there.
Even with the technical problems?
Excuse me?
Well, as with any launch and shipping products,
some consumers have received their earbuds early,
and word is getting out there that there are some issues.
I... I don't think that's accurate.
[suspenseful music]
We're getting reports that the AI is faulty.
There's more gibberish than communication,
even to the extent of interfering with sound quality.
Well, that's news to me.
That's news to everyone.
[suspenseful music]
So are you concerned about sales?
No, I think that Fly is exactly what
consumers were waiting for.
And this is simply a false alarm.
Oh, so you are alarmed by this.
Certainly, we're seeing your stock prices slip as we speak,
but we look forward to however you will be righting the ship.
Mason Flynn, thank you so much for stopping by.
[director] And we're out!
Mr. Flynn, thank you so much for the interview.
Get this thing off of me.
Hey!
[theme music]
