[A Prophet]

[Episode 8]

How is it?

Do I look good

in this?

Whatever.

You're not the groom anyway.

I feel like the outfit needs something.

Does it look familiar?

I had its band resized.

Try it on.

But you've worn

this watch for many years, right?

No matter what happened in the past,

from now on,

every second

belongs to us.

Fair enough.

I suppose it's finally

back where it belongs.

Second Master Qian

isn't really planning to hand all that money over to you, is he?

How do you know he isn't?

Whether he plans to or not,

that money isn't his anymore.

And it certainly

isn't yours.

So you were never

working with the Qian family

on Feng Siyuan's behalf, were you?

You're catching on.

I know exactly what you're thinking.

Feng Siyuan is just a pawn.

The Tianxiang Sect is the real target.

You want to use one to bring down the other,

right?

Are you warning me?

I'm telling you that you're being reckless.

The ledger isn't with Qian Huaiyi.

It's with the Eldest Master Qian.

I'm guessing

you don't even know

what he looks like.

Why are you telling me this?

Let's just say I'm doing it

for this.

Chengming.

Wenxin.

You're so badly injured.

You didn't have to meet me here.

I could have gone to your room.

It's not convenient to talk with my wife in the room.

I just wanted to ask,

does what you promised me

still stand?

Of course it does.

Don't worry.

I've already spoken to Commander Feng.

You won't have taken that beating for nothing.

Thank you, Chengming.

But don't worry.

I'll search every inch of the Qian family

if I have to.

I will find that ledger for you.

Thanks for your hard work, Wenxin.

But

why has the Eldest Master Qian

never shown himself?

I've been with the Qian family

for four or five years now.

But I've barely

seen him.

He's very elusive.

Do you know

where he lives?

I do.

Who are you?

Who brought you here?

You're the Eldest Master Qian, aren't you?

You know me?

Are you looking for me?

Bashen Powder

is made right here.

Don't touch that!

Try it.

No, thanks.

This is good stuff.

You don't know what's good.

Where did you find so many blind people?

I blinded them all.

The more they see of the outside world,

the more tainted their hearts

become.

If their hearts aren't pure,

neither is the medicine

they make.

So they'd better

off without their eyes.

How beautiful.

Brother,

how should I address you?

I-

I'm here to buy medicine.

You're here to buy medicine?

Please go upstairs.

After you.

After you.

Why aren't the lights on?

I just heard you say

that Bashen Powder

has even made its way to Nanyang.

Yes.

Domestic merchants went to Nanyang

and spread the word about

its miraculous effects.

Is Nanyang

beautiful?

There's something wrong with this candle.

You're quite smart.

Stay

and make medicine with me.

Look at my candle wicks.

They're all made of top-grade herbs.

Take a sniff,

and it won't hurt in a while.

Someone's here.

Someone wants to kill your brother and sister.

As long as I'm here,

no one lays a hand on them.

Brother!

Brother!

Save me!

Save me!

Who wants to kill my brother and sister?

Tianxiang Sect.

How do you know?

Your sister just killed someone from Tianxiang Sect.

And your brother has been secretly

smuggling opium with Blind Du.

Tell me,

if you were the Sect Master,

would you let them go?

You're not here to buy medicine.

What exactly do you want?

I'm here to save you.

I'm an old man

who's lived long enough.

What about your brother and sister?

What's your connection to the Tianxiang Sect?

They

killed my brother and sister.

How did they die?

They were poisoned by medicine

from the Qian family.

For generations, our family

has practiced medicine

and made remedies

to heal people.

Then why is it that every time the Tianxiang Sect sets someone up,

the medicine comes from the Qian family?

That's because...

Because

we had nowhere

to hide!

If I hadn't agreed to them

back then,

my brother and sister would have been the ones poisoned.

My father was

drowned alive by them back then.

If I hadn't agreed,

my brother and sister would have suffered

an even worse fate.

Sect Master is a devil

who'd eat you alive without a second thought.

If I ever cross paths with him again,

I'll risk my life

to drag him straight to hell with me!

Sect Master!

Sect Master, I didn't say anything!

Sect Master, I didn't say anything!

They're here.

Who?

The trees

are full of their men.

They are here!

We're doomed!

Snap out of it.

You can't save anyone,

just like I couldn't save my father back then!

Do you want to save your brother and sister or not?

I'll show you a way out.

What way?

Cooperate with Commander Feng.

What do you mean?

Commander Feng wants your family's Bashen Powder.

Give me the ledger.

From now on,

we're in this together.

Can Commander Feng

keep our whole family safe?

In times like these,

what could protect us better than an army?

Think about Longxuya.

Okay.

I agree.

Come get the ledger

tomorrow.

I've been waiting for you.

Come in.

Master,

this is our local specialty, Liubao tea.

Please try it.

Have a seat.

I won't sit.

I'll make it short.

Master,

well,

I took that beating

with my wife watching from the side.

I'm not asking for much.

I just want to know

when I can finally hold my head high

in front of their family,

instead of having to answer to them all the time.

Is that really too much to ask?

From your features,

I'd say that even if you're not destined for great wealth and status,

you're meant to have a fulfilling life

and a happy family.

Master, don't just look at my face.

Take a look at my butt.

Look what they did to me.

You are a mortal.

All you can see

is the whip on your own butt.

But I can see

what's really weighing you down,

keeping you from your destiny.

It's a doomed relationship.

Master, where would our family have a doomed relationship?

Sorry,

I've said too much.

Master, please give me some more hints.

Drink your tea.

Master,

this doomed relationship you mentioned...

You mean my wife, don't you?

I didn't say that.

I understand.

I understand.

Master,

how can I break this curse?

I've seen that

your true match is still out there.

I can't promise

she'll make you rich or successful,

but compared to the life you're living now,

it'll be a world of difference.

She'll be a wonderful match

for you.

It's just that your love life

has been full of twists and turns,

with one mistake leading to another.

Her name has something

to do with a flower, right?

Yes, Master.

Her name is

Bai Wenlan.

I see that

she is right by your side now.

Impossible.

She left with someone else a long time ago.

She can't be by my side.

When you don't know which way to turn,

ask the spring breeze.

But the spring breeze gives no answer.

So perhaps you should simply follow your heart.

Since ancient times, passion has only left empty regrets.

I wonder

if it was the wind that made the flowers fall,

or

if the flowers were ready to fall all along?

The spring breeze has its own sorrows.

Don't trouble the spring breeze to worry for me.

What's with this taste?

They say wine gets better with age.

How come this one's only getting more sour?

I'm not drinking this anymore.

How did the rain start all of a sudden?

I just fixed it a few days ago.

What are you doing here?

Let's drink the rainwater

and make a toast to a lifetime together.

You've been wronged.

Marrying you—

I don't feel wronged.

Feeling any better?

The medicine will be ready soon.

I'll brew it for you when we get home.

Okay.

You'll be fine soon.

Don't worry.

Miss Qian.

Mr. Zhou.

thanks to you,

my wife is feeling a bit better.

Thank you.

It's the least I could do.

Could I put this batch of medicine

on my tab for now?

You haven't paid for the last batch.

No more credit.

Why not

pawn the ring your wife is wearing?

I can't pawn this ring.

It's the token of our love.

I can't pawn this ring.

You can't even afford her medicine,

and you're still worried about tokens of love?

Wang,

Mr. Zhou, you truly have deep affection for your wife.

But getting her treatment comes first.

You can pay for the medicine next time.

Miss Qian.

Mr. Zhou.

Thank you, Miss Qian.

Thank you, Miss Qian.
