I'm not sorry about Sara.

It's what we both wanted.

Did you kill Sara, Tom?

To get her out of your life once and for all.

No! I wanted Rachel to be safe.

We can't do visits anymore. Dad said.

I hate myself for what I did.

I miss you.

I miss the kids.

But we weren't enough. After twelve years.

I can't forgive that.

I'm sorry, Liam, this isn't going to work between us.

No, no, it meant something.

Well then, I'll be clear - it's over.

Do you want me to leave?

Do you think that's the necklace Rachel described?

I came as soon as I could.

Why is that, Donna?

Liam?

I think whoever killed Sara Danbridge...

..murdered my daughter.

Amanda Blake.

Hey!

Five years ago.

Liam!

Oh! No!

Oh! Aargh!

Whoa! I was - aargh!

Aargh! OK, OK.

Get the door!

I'm going, I'm going.

Aargh! And don't come back!

It looks like it's just the one body.

Well, that's something.

One too many.

Thank God for fast fashion.

And fake boobs.

Plastic may ruin the environment, but it sure as shit helps with ID.

How many more are down there?

We'll keep looking.

I'll do the briefing.

Go home, have a shower, a change of clothes.

What the hell are we dealing with, Rick?

So, we are looking at a serial killer?

In which case, I doubt that Tom Danbridge is our killer.

It's spreading like wildfire on social media.

Some kids were camping near the shore last night.

'The River of Death'.

And there was me, hoping to retire.

Dad!

What are you doing here?

What are you doing here? Wa-hey! Surprise!

Pancakes?

Oh, yeah!

Beats Bran Flakes, I suppose.

A female's body.

Pathologist estimates she's been down there...

..between five and ten years.

Her body was weighted down, the same as Sara Danbridge.

Except concrete blocks were used as opposed to diving weights.

Which means that if the same killer is responsible...

..he might have adapted his MO.

And he's been operating for at least five years, maybe more.

Celyn, look for any other missing women in that time frame.

Cardiff to west Wales?

Cardiff to west Wales? To start with, yeah.

Boss, Amanda Blake's mother...

..showed us a photo taken before her date on the night she went missing.

Blonde hair extensions.

Pink dress.

OK. Chase up on the serial numbers of the breast implants.

If they were done in the UK, there should be a record of the recipient.

Wow!

Dad three, Macsen nil.

Always knew you were a bit of a tosser, Dad.

Oi!

What's all this?

Ah, welcome to the pancake party.

Come on.

Sorry I had to dash earlier - work.

Oh!

Oh, yeah, I noticed you'd run out.

Oh, yeah, I noticed you'd run out. Yeah, Mam's gone all healthy on us.

Well, just this once won't hurt.

Erm, no phones at the table.

Mm, lush, Dad, fair play.

This is a surprise.

Well, I just wanted to help out.

I'm the only one who can work this coffee machine.

I'm sure you could do with one.

Oh, Macsen, look at this mess - you're out of practise!

We'll need to get a dog.

Can we, Mam?

Can we, Mam? No.

Why not?

Why not? Who'd look after it?

Any more for anymore?

KNOCKING ON DOOR

The numbers on the breast implants...

..are a match for an operation...

..carried out at a Bristol clinic in 2018.

On Amanda Blake.

Good work, Mogsy.

Erm, the mother?

Donna.

Donna. Is she back in Cardiff?

No, she's staying at a local B&B.

Can you ask her to come in?

Explain to her that we've found her daughter's body.

Have you done something like this before?

Erm, no.

Do you want me to ask an FLO to do it?

No.

I'd rather she heard it from me.

Oh!

Wow! What are those?

MESSAGE ALERT

Now that means you can fly.

Can't you?

Go upstairs to play, love.

Tom?

Tom!

They've found another body in the river.

Auntie Pat!

KNOCKING ON DOOR

KNOCKING ON DOOR

For the birthday girl.

I love the number eight.

It's time for Rachel to find her divine path.

A rebirth.

New beginnings.

Why are you here?

I wanted to warn you about your new crush.

Lisa Redwood.

Lisa's a work colleague.

I sent her a fake friend request.

From a hot man.

And the slut accepted, even though she's married.

I would never do that to you.

Ditch the bitch, OK?

Or I might have to phone the police.

Or I might have to phone the police. Phone them, Manon!

I don't even think you have any evidence.

We'll see who they believe.

Especially with your track record.

You and me...

..it's a joke.

We're done.

Happy birthday.

Hi, Donna.

What is it?

Divers found a body in the river.

We believe it's Amanda.

I'm sorry.

Hi, DI Ffion Lloyd from West Wales Police.

I'd like to speak to a DI Steffan Taylor.

It's about the Amanda Blake missing persons case from five years ago.

Yeah, I'll hold.

What the hell?

OK, alright.

I'm sorry.

I should have called.

I really needed to see the kids, OK?

It's not about what you need.

OK. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

What's wrong?

Tell me.

You know the woman who drowned?

You don't think Mati's teacher did it?

I don't know...

..but last night we found another body in the river.

A woman.

MOBILE

Work.

Answer it.

Hiya, Ffi.

Yeah, OK.

And when did Amanda go missing?

Five years ago, from Cardiff - after going on a date...

..with a man that she met online who was using a fake profile.

Mogsy's just brought the mother in.

This is Donna.

Amanda's Mum.

I'm DI Ffion Lloyd.

Thank you.

For finding her.

The body of the woman has been identified as Amanda Blake...

..who went missing in Cardiff five years ago.

Yes, ma'am, I'm fully aware of the implications...

..and we're doing everything we can to get to the bottom of this.

I'm told the DI in charge of the historic case...

..is on his way from Cardiff.

Of course, ma'am.

How did he kill her?

It's too early to tell.

The postmortem will take some time due to the fact...

..that Amanda's body has been down there for so long.

And the other victim?

The local lady?

Sara Danbridge.

He drowned her, according to the papers.

I should have stopped her from going on the date.

You weren't to know.

Look.

She's gorgeous.

She wanted a nose job next.

She was so insecure.

POLICE RADIOS

CROWD SHOUTING

Take him to the park, not to a crime scene, OK?

What's the matter with you?

Right! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

I know that you all want answers.

But if you want us solve this, let us do our job. OK?

How long has the body been down there?

Is it linked to Sara Danbridge's murder? Is it the same killer?

There will be a press conference, but at the station, not here.

Out of my way.

We want answers!

We are part of this community.

We have a right to know.

Donna, do you know how long Amanda had been talking to her date online?

Two months or so.

She said the build-up was magical.

She was afraid of letting him down in the flesh.

May I?

Yeah, yeah.

This necklace?

Oh, we've both got one - it's a...

..it's a turtle dove.

It's the symbol of...

..love, fidelity...

..and peace.

I gave it to her when her dad died.

And it was just the two of us.

She never took it off.

Griff?

Griff?

You OK?

Rick.

Rick! Oh!

Rick.

Hey...

..we used to fish here.

Yeah, well, we used to drink Rioja here.

THEY CHUCKLE

Fishing was a cover story, let's face it.

And sometimes we'd stop off at the market and buy a fish...

..and pretend we'd caught it - remember?

Erm...

..a wild brown trout.

That's right, yeah, we put a hook in its mouth.

Yes.

Think they believed us, Griff?

Think they believed us, Griff? Probably not, no.

Does Delyth know where you are?

Delyth?

Yeah - your wife, Griff.

I'll call her if you want.

No, no, no - give me a moment to, erm...

..to enjoy the peace.

I don't suppose you've got any Rioja?

I wish, Griff.

I wish.

Donna?

We'll do everything we can...

..to find Amanda's killer and bring them to justice.

Thank you.

Steff?

DI Taylor?

I'll come find you in a bit?

I'll come find you in a bit? OK.

DONNA SOBBING

Willa.

I did try and ring.

I did try and ring. Yeah, I've been busy.

For three whole days?

Busy doing what?

Finding out who you really are.

I realised I knew nothing about you.

So, I asked around...

..showed some people your photo.

Turns out I didn't even know your name - Jamie.

I can explain.

I know all about the Heart Knot murders and your involvement.

I was set up.

I was set up. Stay away from me.

Wait!

Stop following me or I will call the police.

And here.

A heart necklace.

How sick are you?

PHONES RINGING

KNOCKING ON DOOR

Hi.

Hi. Hiya.

Sorry about that in Reception.

God, no, Donna obviously needed...

God, no, Donna obviously needed... We got close.

It happens.

I was the only one who believed her in the end.

Sit, please.

I read up about you.

Oh.

Cardiff MIT.

Our paths never crossed.

Yeah, I was seconded to Manchester...

..not long after Amanda Blake went missing.

Well, they gave up looking for Amanda pretty quickly.

Yeah, I gather they assumed that she'd run away.

Trial by lifestyle.

She was in debt, a lot of debt. Behind on her rent.

And a plastic surgery habit, according to Donna.

Donna was the one that convinced me that something was wrong.

The one thing Amanda knew was that her mum would always bail her out.

Amanda was her world.

I fought to keep that investigation open.

Long after we ran out of resources...

HE SIGHS

..but it stopped being a priority.

And now, it turns out that mum knew best.

Thanks, Pat. I'll pick her up at four.

So, what have you got on the killer?

Well, we thought it was a domestic, so...

We didn't know until last night that there was a wider context.

And now that you do?

We want to catch this sadist as much as you do...

..but, you know, you are five years ahead.

So, forgive me if I don't have all answers.

Sorry.

I blame myself for not finding Amanda's killer.

Well, trust me...

..I know how that feels.

Oh, boy...

..now I'm in trouble.

Welcome to my world.

Come on.

I put a tracker on his phone, but he left it in the study.

Why did you leave the house?

I wanted five minutes' peace.

You can't go wandering off on your own.

I wasn't on my own.

I was with, erm...?

I was with, erm...? Rick.

My son-in-law.

What am I going to do with you?

Oh, put me out of my misery, woman.

Oh, put me out of my misery, woman. Don't tempt me!

Thank you, Rick.

Don't tell Ffion.

In case she worries.

Right, I'd better...

Right, I'd better... Erm, Delyth.

Sorry.

What for?

Well, erm...

..for everything.

Life is messy, Rick.

Make the most of it while you can.

Before it all falls apart.

Thanks.

Both Sara Danbridge and Amanda Blake...

..had been speaking to their online matches for a few months.

They were groomed by this person...

..and by doing so, he learnt how vulnerable they were.

Following their dates, they were killed...

..weighted down and then disposed of in Cleddau river.

Their bodies weren't meant to be found.

Both women were dressed...

..but more importantly, both Sara Danbridge and Amanda Blake...

..when they were last seen, were wearing necklaces.

Sara's necklace had an angel wings design...

..Amanda's a turtle dove.

It's possible that the killer might have kept these.

Right, I'm going to hand over to DI Steffan Taylor from Cardiff MIT.

Thank you, DI Lloyd.

So, Amanda Blake went missing on Saturday July the 6th, 2021.

She was 22 years old.

She met a man on the CitySolos dating app...

..but he'd stolen another man's identity.

The man the killer was impersonating was abroad at the time.

Amanda was vulnerable, she was in debt.

She desperately wanted to be loved.

As there was no evidence she actually met anyone on that date...

..police, in time, presumed that he'd ghosted her...

..and as a result, she'd ran away.

Long story short, Cardiff MIT cocked it up.

As a result...

..it seems that the killer has been at large for nearly five years.

He may be planning his next murder right now.

There could be countless women's bodies out there.

Boss, we've got seven missing women...

..from Pembrokeshire all the way to Exeter.

All went on dates and were never seen again.

He needs to be stopped.

He's clever, but he has to have left traces...

..and it's our job to find them.

I'll be hosting a press conference in half an hour.

Hi, DS Sheldon.

DI Taylor. Is there a kitchen where I could make a coffee?

Follow me.

Well, he said it.

It's their cock-up.

The body of a young woman who went missing in Cardiff five years ago...

..has been recovered from Cleddau river.

We have reason to believe...

..there may be a link with the murder of Sara Danbridge...

..who disappeared on Saturday, the 1st of February of this year.

Both women arranged first dates...

..after a period of online interaction.

The men they thought they were meeting weren't even aware...

..of their existence.

Our working hypothesis is that the killer steals identities...

..in order to groom his victims online and lure them to their death.

I want to issue an urgent warning to all women out there...

..who are currently dating online to be extra vigilant.

'Watching the news? Want me to come over later?'

Make sure you meet in a public place.

Tell people who you're meeting, and where.

And give a friend or relative a time to call you during your date.

Are we dealing with a serial killer?

I won't be taking any questions at this point.

We would urge friends or relatives of any missing women...

..especially in the past five years...

..to come forward.

You can contact us on the number on the screen.

Our priority is to keep women safe...

..and to bring this offender to justice.

Thank you.

INDISTINCT QUESTIONS

Helen?

Helen!

Helen, it's me.

Oh, hi.

Don't get spooked.

He targets single women using online dating apps.

Did you get my text?

I thought we could have a Chinese tonight after I clock off.

You OK?

No, not really.

Why, what's up?

You.

Turning up this morning like nothing's happened.

Playing happy families.

But I thought, after last night?

That one shag wipes out what you did?

To me, to the kids.

Hang on, I said that I would leave - you wanted me to stay.

No.

I wanted to have sex.

And you were there.

It was a mistake.

Right, I get it.

I messed up, jumped the gun...

..but Helen, I want us to try again.

I miss you so much.

And the kids.

I don't want us to throw this away because of one stupid mistake.

All day, I've been thinking about...

..how happy Mati and Macsen were to have you back.

Playing the fool.

Well, it's one thing I'm good at that.

I haven't seen them laugh like that in so long.

Well, I can take my time.

We don't have to rush.

We can do it your way.

Look, you can have the keys back.

I don't have those feelings for you anymore, Rick.

What we had...

..it's gone.

No, no...

..not for me.

And if I lie for their sake...

..it'll just make things worse.

Mati and Macsen need to know where they stand.

And I'd never stop you from seeing them...

..but they need structure.

So...

..I've decided.

I want a divorce.

You OK, Rick?

You look done in.

You look done in. Pizza?

It's good.

No, thanks.

We were talking about Cleddau river.

Why would the killer bring Amanda's body all the way from Cardiff...

..and dump her here?

He must have some connection to the area.

Maybe somewhere that he stores the bodies till he can get rid of them.

KNOCKING ON DOOR

They're for you, Boss.

Must have cost a bomb.

Well, come on, we're waiting to hear who the lucky man is.

No-one important.

It would be a shame to see these go to waste.

Give them to Helen.

Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Good idea. Thanks.

Helen?

Erm, his wife.

Well, they're separated.

You OK? You seem tense.

Yeah...

..just the man I was seeing.

Full disclosure - I met him on a dating app.

But it's over, so, hm...

Why?

Erm, he wanted to move too fast.

Which is a pity...

..because he owns The River Tide Bistro and he's a bloody good chef.

So, you know, yet another place for me to avoid.

Anyway, that's enough about me.

How do we go about finding a killer who hides behind stolen identities?

Well, there's a reason he does that.

The chase, the build-up.

Gaining his victims' trust.

It's all part of the game - the need for power.

Probably a loner who had a terrible childhood.

I took some leave after the Amanda Blake trail ran cold.

Did a Master's in Criminology.

Oh, well, Professor?

Not quite.

Do you think the killer will go to ground now it's out in the press?

I think it might galvanise him to kill again.

He might get a kick out of the attention.

DI Lloyd didn't want these, so...

I don't want them either.

Give them to your mum.

That's a bit tricky.

She died when I was 16.

Shit.

Sorry.

Sir, is DI Taylor going be around for a while?

Not that I'm complaining.

'I'll take her to soft play. You get everything for the party'.

'I'm outside.'

Where's Rachel?

I've looked everywhere - she was just on the slide.

Hiya, Mam.

Fancy Chinese tonight?

Cool. Is Dad coming? He loves Chinese.

He's busy at work.

It's my daughter - she's gone missing.

Erm, Fun Hut soft play centre, Richmond Industrial Estate.

I checked on her every fifteen minutes, Tom.

Rachel - Rachel Danbridge.

I can't get up the slides - they move so fast.

No, no, no, she wouldn't just walk out like that. She's a good girl.

I think she's been taken.

And I think I know who.

Thanks for letting us know.

Tom Danbridge is on his way over.

His daughter's gone missing.

Tom?

Who's Manon Grant? I need to know.

She's a psycho. She was outside my house this morning.

Come into the office, give us a description...

..and we'll check her out, OK?

It's Rachel's birthday today. I was preparing a party for her.

No, no, no, no, shit!

Shit!

That's her.

We'll try and find her as soon as possible, Tom.

Pat didn't see her at the soft play.

Manon's devious.

She must have followed them from the house.

Have you got her mobile number?

So we can locate the phone?

Erm, yeah.

07700 900913.

Do you happen to know her car registration number?

No.

It's alright, we'll find it.

What about an address?

She lives in a squat.

Stockdale Road.

One of the rooms downstairs.

We'll get down there.

OK.

What if it's too late?

What's the deal here, Tom?

Why would Manon Grant abduct your daughter on her birthday?

I just want to understand.

For Rachel's sake.

What is your relationship with Manon Grant?

Would she have wanted to hurt Sara too?

Just find her.

Find Rachel.

Please.

KNOCKING ON DOOR

Manon?

KNOCKING ON DOOR

Manon Grant?

Police!

Boss! DC Morgan?

MOBILE

Tom's hiding something.

I can't push him - he's on the edge and clearly shit scared.

Well, we ran a check on Manon Grant, and her previous...

..includes assault, criminal damage and impersonating others.

ANPR have picked up Manon's car.

Last seen on Richcopse Way.

That leads down to Cleddau river.

Manon!

When are we going to see the mermaids?

Not long now. Just wait.

It's going to be sensational.

We've found the suspect's vehicle.

A maroon Citroen Saxo.

Echo Yankee Zero Two, Charlie Victor Oscar.

Located and unattended at the south of Richcopse Way.

POLICE SIRENS

Found anything?

This was on the back seat.

Looks like the one Sara was wearing when she disappeared.

Oh, Rick.

That's Manon's car. Where's Rachel?

Tom, let us deal with this, OK?

Keep him with you.

Keep him with you. This is all my fault.

They must have gone through here.

Get this open - now!

POLICE SIRENS

Don't come any closer.

Don't come any closer. Rachel!

That's my daughter. That's my daughter!

Rachel! Rachel!

All units - we've got eyes on Rachel Danbridge...

..with Manon Grant at South Dock Riverbank.

This is a hostage situation. DI Lloyd is at the scene.

She will negotiate. Over.

Manon, my name's Ffion.

I just want to talk to you.

He drove me to this.

He drove me to this. Who did?

Tom?

What is this about, Manon?

I want him to know what it's like to lose someone you love.

Stay where you are!

Stop pretending you care.

It's bullshit.

OK.

What has Tom done to you, Manon?

He stole my life.

Ruined it.

How?

What do you care?

I care.

And I know what it's like to be hurt by a man, trust me.

You have no idea, OK? You don't know me.

OK, then, talk to me.

Tell me your story.

You know as women, we keep a lot to ourselves.

We protect men because we feel ashamed...

..about how we've let them treat us and use us.

But this is Tom's fault...

..not Rachel's.

What would harming a young, innocent girl achieve?

Punishment.

Revenge.

Yes, and he would suffer, but so would you.

And I think, deep down...

..you're a good person, Manon.

That's why you're hurting, so don't give Tom any more power.

Don't do something that you will regret for the rest of your life.

Don't let him turn you into someone that you're not.

It's too late.
