TARZAN: The jungle.
Here I was born.
And here my parents died when I was but an infant.
I would ave soon perished, too,
had I not been found by a kindly she-ape named Kala,
who adopted me as her own
and taught me the ways of the wild.
I learned quickly and grew stronger each day.
And now, I share the friendship and trust of all jungle animals.
The jungle is filled with beauty
and danger.
And lost cities filled with good and evil.
This is my domain,
and I protect those who come here.
For I am Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle.
(YELLS JUNGLE CRY)
(WHIRRING)
(GIBBERING)
I have heard it too, Nkima.
(GIBBERING)
Whatever it was, it is gone now, little friend.
But it has left me with uneasy feelings.
(FOOTSTEPS)
(SHUTTER CLICKS)
The apes have grown quite accustomed to my presence now.
While the older members of the tribe prepare nests for their midday nap,
the two youngsters I have named Cecil and Margaret
are engaged in a playful tug-of-war.
(CACKLES)
(WHIRRING)
What on Earth?
It's as if... As if they vanished right into thin air.
Ah! Look, Nkima, Lul, the water, invites us for a morning swim.
(SQUEAKS)
(GIBBERING)
(LAUGHS)
Then I shall see you at the other end.
What better way to greet the day, eh, Nkima?
If only I could wash away the memory of last night.
(GIBBERING)
Ah, breakfast!
Thank you, little friend.
Hello, base camp, this is research one, over.
Do you read me, base camp?
This is research one. Come in, please!
(STATIC)
It's no good. I'm still out of radio range.
(ENGINE HUMS DISTANTLY)
Listen, Nkima.
Come, little friend.
Let us see what manner of beast this is.
TARZAN: A truck!
I have never seen one venture so deep into the jungle.
(GASPS)
(TIRES SCREECHING)
(HORN BLARES)
(CRASHING)
Nkima, fetch water. Lul, Nkima. Lul.
Oh, my head. Ouch!
Who are you?
I am Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle.
(GIBBERING)
And this is my little friend, Nkima.
Tarzan?
I've heard many stories about you,
but I never believed them.
Thank you.
And what is your name?
I'm sorry. Jill Bennington.
I'm an anthropologist, studying the great apes of this region.
I am afraid your truck is destroyed, Jill Bennington.
You were in a great hurry.
For ruddy good reason.
Tarzan, perhaps you are just the person to help me.
TARZAN: How much farther is this place where animals disappear?
We're quite close now, another 100 yards I'd say.
Tantor, dan-do.
This is very strange.
-What is it, Tarzan? -Listen.
I don't hear anything.
Exactly.
There is no living thing here.
Even Usha, the wind, stays away.
Tantor, unk.
(TRUMPETING)
Easy, easy.
Unk, Tantor! Forward!
(TRUMPETS)
Tantor fears few things
but what lies ahead, frightens him a great deal.
We will proceed from here, on foot.
Mighty Tantor,
perhaps we should all heed your instincts and turn back,
but I must find what has harmed my brother apes.
JILL: / hate to see them go.
It's not too late to leave with them, Jill.
Don't be daft!
I wouldn't miss this for the world!
This is the spot where they vanished.
(SNIFFS)
They were traveling in this direction.
Jill!
Jill, are you all right?
Yes, but what happened?
I don't know.
It felt like passing through a wall of water,
except there's no water.
But there is a wall!
Incredible!
How can this be?
I'm as puzzled as you.
Any luck yet?
No. There seems to be no top to this wall.
(SNARLING)
(YELLS JUNGLE CRY)
(TARZAN SPEAKING ANIMAL LANGUAGE)
Go home!
Never have I known a Sheeta With such great strength.
(GROWLS)
(HISSING)
(ELECTRICAL BUZZING)
This Sheeta is a machine!
Jill, it is safe now.
Jill?
This place is a giant trap,
and I fear Jill has been snared.
(DISTANT GROWL)
The answer to this mystery must lie somewhere ahead.
VOICE: Greetings, earthling.
We have been expecting you.
Relax, earthling. You are in no danger.
1 will determine that. Show yourself!
As you can see, you are in no position to make demands.
The sooner you accept that fact, the easier it will--
Who are you and why have you taken me prisoner?
Silence!
1 will tell you when to speak.
You will notice the heavier muscle structure here,
compared to the female we just examined.
Where is the female? Have you harmed her?
Silence.
Or I will place an energy band over your mouth.
Doctor Krolar.
I object to your treatment of the earthling.
He deserves an explanation.
KROLAR: He is an inferior animal and dangerous.
He certainly doesn't seem inferior!
Young lady, if you believe that, then you are inferior!
1 still object
to your methods.
And I object to your impertinence.
You will hold your tongue
(COUGHING)
or you will be removed.
Now, a closer look at the lower extremities indicates--
Tarzan of the Apes will not be poked at like an insect.
Release me!
Guards! Stop him!
No. Stay back!
Stay back!
Release the savage, quickly!
All right, you are free, for the present.
Take me to the female you captured.
As you wish.
But I warn you, earthling, you will never escape from here.
What is this place?
You are within a spacecraft, a traveling city
that has come from a world too distant for your primitive mind to understand.
And I am Doctor Krolar,
scientist in charge of research here.
Then I hold you responsible for the female's safety.
She is in perfect health, as you will see.
As I promised, here we are.
(TRUMPETS)
Numa, Tantor.
JILL: Tarzan!
And there is your female.
Tarzan, you must get out of here while you can.
Not without you and my jungle friends.
Release them all.
I am afraid that is impossible.
These cubicles are permanently sealed.
What?
See for yourself.
They will not reopen
until all these specimens are delivered to my home planet.
My friends...
(STRAINING)
Are going nowhere.
Oh, but they are, my slow-witted earthling,
and so are you!
Oh!
Will be back, Jill. Soon!
KROLAR: Stop him. Stop the earthling.
Seal all exits. He must not escape.
GUARD: Alert!
Visual contact broken.
Subject's location unknown.
What?
He has to be out there somewhere.
Check every sector until you find him.
Affirmative.
Quick, Tarzan, get in!
You are the one who spoke on my behalf.
My name is Lyra.
Please hurry before we're seen.
Why do you help me?
Because I am ashamed of how you and your friends are treated.
It is wrong. Our ship is preparing to leave.
You must get out or you will never see your jungle again.
No. I will not leave without my friends.
But there is no time for that!
Here is where we say goodbye.
When I open the hatch, run like you've never run before.
Thank you, Lyra,
but the only running I will do
is back to the laboratory to free the others.
Tarzan. Wait!
Good luck, brave one.
Still no sign of the earthling?
Negative.
-Doctor Krolar. -Yes, Commander?
Secure all search operations until further notice.
But, Commander,
I have the earthling's cage waiting for him.
Once we are in space, we will have plenty of time to hunt him down.
Close it!
Tarzan!
Halt!
Tarzan, I never thought you'd do it!
I do nothing my friends would not have done for me.
COMMANDER: Attention, all personnel,
liftoff is about to begin.
(COMPUTER BEEPING)
Zero minus 30, 29, 28, 27, 26...
22, 21, 20,
19...
The earthling. He's freed the other specimens.
Guards, stop them.
Fool. I told you, you would never escape.
Guards, back!
That alien is actually helping us.
Her name is Lyra.
What are you doing?
Seize them. I command you!
(COUGHING)
(GASPS) Doctor Krolar.
My chest!
Somebody help me.
Tantors, unk. Unk!
I cannot hold on.
Nala, Tantor, nala!
Up, up!
(GROANS)
(SPEAKING ANIMAL LANGUAGE)
Down.
They've captured Doctor Krolar.
They're saving his life!
He is not breathing.
His heart has stopped!
Put him in the car, I'll rush him to the MediCenter!
There is no time.
Jill, you will have to breathe for him,
while I try to reawaken his heart.
...I have a pulse.
He's breathing again.
What happened?
The earthlings saved your life.
The earthlings?
The very same earthlings you consider inferior and lock up in cages.
What...
What can I say
except
thank you.
What you do not say, your eyes say for you.
Tarzan, you and your friends have taught us much today.
We are forever grateful.
My ape-mother, Kala,
taught me long ago that when 1 look down my nose at others
I soon bump into the branch of reality.
We must go now.
But your memories will travel with us.
Farewell, friends.
-Have a safe journey. -Goodbye.
If I only had my camera!
We have something more valuable than pictures.
We have new friends,
and we have our freedom.
