[gasps] What is that?

It's glowing! I don't like it!

But what is it?

(Guard) Could it be a star?

(Guard) That's no star! It's moving!

Still, it's frightening.

Find it.

Yes, Sir!

A woman?

Are you telling me that she came from the heavens?

Yes, sir! This woman was found on the spot where the light fell.

Be careful...!

Huh. And what is your name?

Answer him! The man before you is Lord Tenji, King of the Land of Ancestors!

Hey! The Land of That must have sent this woman here to spy on us!

Interrogate her and make her confess!

- Yes, sir! -Yes, sir!

Hold on!

[groans]

You--!

What was that?

[groans]

What's wrong?

You asked for my name...

Kaguya.

Kagu...ya...

I'm the one who protects the Divine Tree.

My Lady, I have been assigned to take care of all your needs.

My name's Aino.

Lady Kaguya...?

Ages ago, that tree just appeared right out of nowhere and grew before everyone's eyes.

But I've heard frightening rumors, too.

Anyone who approaches it is quickly consumed by a demon spirit...

...and dies like a withered branch.

[gasp] Forgive me for speaking of such things!

There's no need for you to worry... you speak the truth.

(Aino) [gasp]

And some day soon...

Lord Tenji! Ministers Suzaku and Genbu from the Land of That are here to see you.

(Suzaku) This is the border between the Land of That and the Land of Ancestors...

...The issue is this lake.

Presently, this region is said to be part of the Land of Ancestors.

But a recently-discovered ancient manuscript states that since time immemorial,

it belonged to the Land of That.

We wish to have this land returned to us.

That lake's the source of water for the Land of Ancestors' farms!

So if I were to give you that land-

(Genbu) No matter the consequences...

...returning what was once stolen back to its true owner is simply the right thing to do.

If we don't receive a favorable answer, we can't be responsible for whatever misfortune befalls the Land of Ancestors!

[angry gasp]

Now, now I'm certain that you'll need some time to consider things and make the necessary preparations.

We shall return in a few days to hear what your answer is.

By the way, I hear you've taken a celestial maiden as a consort.

It's said that she's indescribably beautiful and mysterious.

I'm most curious to see her.

[mean laughter]

(Chief Vassal) I'm certain that uncovered manuscript is a fabrication by the Land of That.

I'm aware...

They use false claims against other lands to justify war.

And take more land.

This is the same.

But their army's still three times larger than the Land of Ancestors'.

There's no way that we can win.

Suzaku and Genbu. Sending those two as messengers means...that they're serious.

We cannot afford to be meek now.

Lord Tenji, we should stand up to them!

If we're doomed anyway, let's go down fighting and show our pride!

Let's not panic yet.

Lord Tenji!

What's Kaguya doing?

Lady Kaguya spends many of her nights looking up at the sky like that.

It's like... she's standing out there waiting for someone to come for her.

The villagers say that Lady Kaguya came from the heavens.

It's strange, I don't remember the first time I met her...

Oh...?

May I borrow that?

Huh? Oh, this?

(Tenji) You must be freezing, standing in the cold night air for so long.

Sometimes I wonder if that glowing world above is beautiful and peaceful.

A strange feeling comes over me as I gaze up at the night sky.

That such a beautiful light... lies floating amid such pitch darkness.

What am I even looking at? And is there a chance that someday I'll be able to go up there?

I've heard that you come here to gaze at the sky every night... So, are you waiting for someone?

It's all right if that's the case.

From now on, when you're lonely and look up at the sky, I shall be here, standing by your side.

(Tenji) Is there anything that you desire?

What I wish for the most is peace without fighting.

(Tenji) Peace?

[grunts]

[smug sigh]

They're from the Land of That! How dare they mess with us!

No, don't! Can't you see that they're only trying to provoke us?!

Curse them!

(Chief Vassal) Lord Tenji!

My lord, the Land of That's mischief on our border has been growing worse.

Unless we take action, the farmers' ire will reach a breaking point!

I understand... But I absolutely forbid anyone to confront them.

But--!

I'm seeking to maintain peace. If we fight, many people will die.

Our focus is peaceful negotiations.

Anyone who makes a move against the Land of That will be executed on my order.

But, sir!

[panting] Is Lord Tenji here?

He is. He comes here nearly every night now.

It seems Lady Kaguya has become more accepting of his presence recently,

and they've been spending more and more time toge--

I didn't ask for details!

[gasp]

Lord Tenji! Lord Tenji!

What do you want at this late hour?

The Land of That's army is at the border!

[gasps] What?!

[sigh]

Kaguya, I must depart for the front immediately.

To wage war?

No, to try to maintain the peace.

But if things should go wrong, then.

Prepare to go into hiding, now!

Yes!

Don't be worried. I shall return soon.

Let's depart.

Yes, sir!

And you, guard the castle.

Leave it to us.

[sigh]

So it seems that Kaguya woman has left the capital.

This is the perfect chance to capture her.

There's no need to be so hasty, you know.

The Land of Ancestors'll be ours in almost no time.

Besides, it's just one woman! Be patient.

Forget that! It's my policy to get what I want just as fast as I can.

You're hopeless.

Gather some skilled men.

We're going after Kaguya.

Yes, sir!

You can't sleep?

I'll stay with you.

Lady Aino! Lady Kaguya!

What's happening?!

[gasps]

So this is where you were hiding!

Who are you?! You dare approach Lord Tenji's consort like this?!

Lord Tenji? I'm from the Land of That! Who cares about him?

The Land of Ancestors will fall.

To be blunt, what belongs to Tenji will soon be mine.

(Suzaku) The rumors were right... What a beauty! And so refined!

From now on, you're mine!

Please! Run!

Lady Kaguya!

I'd like you to withdraw your troops immediately.

You seem to be under a mistaken impression, Lord Tenji.

We're not at war with you at all!

The army's just here to protect our border.

An army as large as that just to protect the border is-

I don't intend to wage war against you, either.

The proof of that is in my order that anyone who draws their sword or attacks the Land of That is to be executed.

(Suzaku) Oh, is that so?

Well then, I want you to execute Kaguya.

That Kaguya woman... killed my vassals and then tried to kill me, as well!

It can't be! She'd never...!

Is it true..?

Yes... Lady Kaguya. dispatched all of them... ...with frightening power!

Lord Tenji! Execute Kaguya, and you'll end this conflict right now!

I'm leaving.

What happened? Tell me.

That woman Kaguya is a monster.

Let the Land of Ancestors hunt her. And we will conquer them!

Kaguya did this?

Whatever the reason was, it seems there's no doubt that she tried to kill Suzaku.

Kaguya.

What will you do, Lord Tenji?!

Are you really going to execute Lady Kaguya?

Unless I do so... there's sure to be a war...
