Original subtitles

Being out here is right now, is, it's surreal.

It's hard to believe that I'm actually here right now.

I've been a fan since season one, episode one.

Uh, I've watched...

I've watched every single episode of Naked And Afraid.

Bulent will always be hands down my favorite.

You know, he doesn't sugarcoat anything.

You have two options.

Suck it up or quit. That's it, really.

- There ain't nothing but quitting. - -Suck it up or quit.

What I wanna prove out here is that I have what it takes

not only to survive for 14 days, but to thrive.

I think, I think it'll be fairly easy

walking outta here on day 14.

How did I get here?

As a fan of the show,

I can hardly believe that I'm here now in South Africa.

This all feels very real all of a sudden.

Coming from Minneapolis, Minnesota,

this is drastically different.

I am pretty terrified at the thought of coming in contact

with either the big animals or the snakes

and the scorpions and spiders

and all the other creepy crawlies.

I don't look forward to that at all.

Naked And Afraid super fans Billy and Sam

will be attempting to survive 14 days in Limpopo, South Africa.

This is ground zero for the big five.

Lion, leopard, Cape buffalo, rhino and the African elephant.

In this hot and humid bush,

every living creature is in a fight for survival.

I know that this challenge is gonna be

the most difficult thing I've done in my entire life.

But also it's gonna be the most wild ride I've ever been on.

I am more than ready to get started on these 14 days.

South Africa, I'm gonna make you my bitch.

And we're gonna walk outta here on day 14.

I'm just not sure anybody can survive here for 21 days.

Oh, my God.

Yeah!

Two strangers.

Ah! Run, go, go, go, go.

Oh, God.

No food.

No water.

Ah!

Twenty one days.

Don't tap.

Die first.

Naked And Afraid.

The terrain is absolutely beautiful.

Uh, it reminds me a lot of, you know, back home in Texas,

uh, there's a few more thorns than, than normal.

But

I think, uh, I think this will be an, an epic adventure.

I'm uniquely qualified to succeed at this challenge

based on my survival skills and my military background.

I was, uh, deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 to 2012.

The skills that I'm bringing to this challenge

would be my trapping and tracking skills,

fishing, shelter making, fire making, camp crafts.

You know, use that engineering side of my mind.

I think my skills will be on point out here.

Now, I'm taking on this fan challenge,

I wanna prove myself that I can survive the 14 days.

And hopefully, I can use this as a stepping stone

to, to do other challenges in 21 days, 40 days

or even further, you know?

To be able to say,

"Hey, you know, I'll walk amongst those like EJ and Matt."

I am ready to take on this fan challenge

more than anything I've ever done in my entire life.

It's, uh, very bizarre coming out here

feeling that I have nothing to prove

other than to just endure and get through it.

- I'm a thrill seeker. - I'm a wild child.

I'm the extrovert,

outgoing, silly, crazy, adventure type.

I do a lot of outdoor activities.

Love camping, I love kayaking, cliff jumping.

Other than that, I am a biker chick.

We'll ride when I get back, baby.

I do a lot of motorcycle camping trips.

I feel so alive when I'm on two wheels.

Ready to do this, Ready to get this challenge started.

Off we go.

I think I'm getting to my final destination here.

Let's go.

All right.

It's time to get wild in Africa.

Some misconceptions that people may have about me

is that I come off as an ,

a little stern, you know, due to my military background.

But been through a lot in my life.

At one point, I was addicted to drugs and I was homeless.

But I can use what I've learnt from those past experiences

to help me get through these next 14 grueling days.

As a military veteran, Billy has grit and resilience.

And has learned survival skills

such as fire making, fishing and shelter building.

He starts the challenge with a primitive survival rating,

or PSR of 5.8.

Oh, boy.

And so it begins.

This is the part where I get naked.

I don't mind being naked on a challenge like this.

I'm totally interested in being stripped down of everything

and seeing what I'm truly made of.

But being nude and exposed to the environment,

kinda crosses the line between brave and stupid.

Here we go.

What Sam lacks in survival skills

she makes up for in mental strength and determination.

She has experience making fire and building traps.

- And begins her 14 day challenge with a PSR of 5. - 5.

- Oh, my. - I see movement over there.

Oh, wow.

The moment we've all been waiting for.

- That's right. - Hello.

-I'm Billy. -Billy. I'm Sam.

Sam, where are you from?

From Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Minneapolis, I'm from Dallas.

-Dallas, Texas, baby. -Or just east of Dallas, yeah.

How are you feeling?

- Yeah, it's a little awkward. - Yeah.

I, I was in army.

So, you know, I did run around the barracks naked a lot

in my younger and dumber days.

- Who needs clothes? - That's right.

-So, uh, what do you do for a living? -Yeah.

I'm a freelance photographer.

-And you? -I'm a network engineer for IBM.

- Wow. Wild. - Yeah.

You ready to rock these 14 days?

- I'm ready to nail these 14 days. Yeah. - Beautiful.

I can see our bags here, and I think we should see what we brought.

Let's go.

- So, I brought a blade. - Oh, very nice.

- Necessary out here. - Yes.

I brought some hook and line.

- Amazing. - Yes.

Now, it looks like we have a few extra things...

- Yes. - ...that we got gifted with.

I got a beautiful pot.

-Looks like I got a fire starter. -Beautiful.

- I have the map here. - Excellent.

- Let's see. - Let's see where we are.

Yeah, so, you know, this is insertion.

This is the water source.

- Look at that muddy water. - -That's right.

- Let's find it. - There was some water.

Think that's where we need to head.

And it's not quite noon yet, but...

- It's happening. - -Yes, we got a heck of a hike.

We need to get there and get our boma built

before, uh, before sunset.

We should get a boogie on.

Let's go, let's do it.

Step in.

I'm feeling pretty exposed.

Makes you a little bit more cautious doing it naked.

That's right.

My first impression of Sam,

I think she's gonna be a, a valuable asset here.

I'm excited and relieved.

Uh, she seems very determined, very motivated,

and willing to try new things and willing to learn.

And I couldn't ask for more in a partner.

How's it looking up there, Billy?

It's, uh, looking a little rough.

- Yeah. - -So, mind your feet, yeah?

It's getting thicker.

Oh, those thorns, oh, my goodness.

My first impressions of Billy are really good.

He seems really grounded and skillful.

I'm, uh, 42 with a wife and a kid

and then another kid that's coming in two months.

Your wife is pregnant?

- Yeah. - Oh.

Got some, uh, animal markings here.

It is so thick through here.

- Like, the visibility is very minimal. - -Yes.

- We'll be fine. - Yes.

-Are we there yet? -No.

Damn it.

It's getting thicker and thicker.

Make it through there and it opens up.

You're clear after you pass those little bushes.

I see it.

- Oh, yeah, there's water. - -I see it.

- It looks like there's reflections. - -Oh, my goodness.

There's water.

That is a big relief.

- Let's check it out, huh? - Oh, wow.

A lot of, uh, animal activity around here too.

Wonder if the elephants knocked all these down.

Absolutely.

That's exactly what they did.

As the strongest land mammal on the planet,

the African elephant's raw power

means they can quickly fill huge trees

and anything else in their path.

Just a friendly reminder.

We're not alone.

- Beautiful puddle we have. - We made it.

- I'm happy to have it. - Oh, my goodness.

I think there's actually fish in there.

While the water looks a little muddy and murky,

I'm excited because we have water.

There's a pond, there's a water source.

Oh, my goodness. We have dinner tonight already.

We have dinner already.

- It's on it's way-- - Right there.

No. What?

There's no way. There's no way.

There's no-- Let's see.

- What? - -It's still fresh too, look.

Ain't even hit rigor mortis yet.

- Look, he's still moving. - Oh, my God!

Certain species of catfish

are known to seek out what-- new watering holes

as the, uh, oxygen levels decrease

or as food supplies decrease.

And so this may be a Naked And Afraid first.

Having Mother Nature just hand us dinner

as we arrive to camp.

- Look here, there's another catfish. - -I'm seeing.

There's so many.

I thought you were just manifesting we have dinner already.

-But we have dinner! -He's still alive too.

It's like they crawled out looking for another water hole.

And I know, I know a lot of catfish will do that

um, hoping that there's another waterhole nearby.

- This is a meal. - Yes.

Thank you, little guy.

Go figure.

These are 100% safe since they're still alive.

The gills are still red.

Uh, the eyes are not clouded over or anything like that.

I think this is a really good omen

that we'll walk out of here fat and happy

at the end of 14 days.

What is our game plan?

I'm gonna, I'm gonna string up some of this line with the fish

and I'm just gonna toss 'em in the water right here.

Just keep all the bugs and half of 'em keep 'em alive

until we are ready to actually eat them.

Beautiful.

- I probably won't eat tonight, uh... - -No?

...just the way that I know how my body is.

Yeah.

And, uh, we have some, some breakfast in the morning.

- That would be nice. - Boom.

Excellent. All right.

Boma time.

What'd you think about this spot?

You think right in here?

-Right in there. -Just clear it out?

Clear it out. Move it around.

It's kinda built up already, like right here.

We don't have to worry about filling in that area.

It's already covered in and shaded.

We could just fill it in as much as possible.

The benefit of the spot that Billy and I are looking at

has a large Leadwood tree that has already been knocked over,

giving us, uh, like, added security and enclosure,

making it pretty ideal, uh, for making shelter and a home for the next 14 days.

- Okay. - -Getting a little clear.

Getting a little clearer.

This is coming together slowly but surely.

Yes.

God. Man, that was just perfect.

- Perfect. - That works.

We're doing good.

- Sun's going down quick though. - -It is.

You need some water?

It wouldn't hurt, so I might go grab the pot.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah. Keep ahead of the dehydration.

As a fan,

watching all of these seasons, all these episodes,

I've seen my favorite survivalist,

you know, fire started quite a few times.

Oh, yeah, baby.

We got fire!

- Whoa-ho-ho. - Fire.

Man's greatest invention.

Thanks, bud.

Yeah, good job on the fire.

You too.

Feeling good.

Feeling like we're, like, just at the nick of time before sundown,

Just threw the water on the fire,

and that water's got to get boiled.

Uh, happy that we have shelter,

happy that we have some food,

happy that we have water and fire, so...

And a great partner.

I don't know how much more I could ask for for insertion day one.

All right, so, here we are at the end of day one.

How many people can say they have food in the form of two catfish,

water, boma, shelter and fire all on day one?

Night number one, here we go.

Full moon, baby, yeah.

Here we are, live in South Africa, night one.

What do you hope to gain from the experience?

- Twenty one days. - Twenty one days.

- Did you not have 21 days? - Yeah.

I wanna be up there with the, uh,

EJ and, and Matt and, and Gary and, and...

Say hi to Amber for me.

- Yeah. - I love her.

I wanna be up there with them all.

Yeah.

- What? - Nothing.

Mmm-mmm.

There's something out there.

- What? - -I don't know, out there.

Oh, my God.

It breathed really heavy and it's not far away.

It's a deep huffing sound.

- Did you hear that? - Mmm-hmm.

I'm too scared to stand up.

Get on outta here.

Yah!

Circling us.

I have such a fear of the unknown,

like, not knowing what it is that's ...

Tell me about your, uh,

your close encounters of the third kind last night.

Yeah, I don't know what the that was.

It did freak me out, yeah.

And I did exactly what I thought I would.

I yelled so loud, but it did not deter it.

I wanna know what it was,

and maybe I don't wanna know what it was.

My personal opinion,

it was either a Cape buffalo or a rhino,

'cause it was breaking some brush and puffin'.

Well, you know, like a bull would, uh,

blow air out of its nostrils whenever it's mad.

Last night, we weren't hungry.

So, we decided not to eat the fish.

So, this morning, we're gonna have some breakfast.

If they're still there.

-If they're still there. -We'll have to go find out.

We've been wondering all night if they're still there.

- Moment of truth about to come. - That's right.

- Feel like we're crawling out of a cave. - That's right.

Fishing line is still there.

Oh, yeah.

Yeah. We definitely have to eat both of 'em today.

Nice and stiff.

I, I don't feel comfortable eating this smaller fish

and it's unfortunate that it's gotta go to waste.

Uh, this larger fish though, it's still got clear eyes.

One of 'em was still edible,

and the other one, its eyes were clouded.

By the time they hit that state, they're,

they're long past their due date.

So, I didn't wanna take the risk with that one.

So, here's one big ol' honking catfish.

Beautimus maximus.

Look at all that fat in there. Oh, my goodness.

And it smells good.

- Cheers. - Cheers.

Salud.

All right, bottoms up.

Not even that fishy, huh?

It's very light. It's like white meat.

-It's like white fish. -And, like...

You got a lot of fat on the skin on the, uh, meat still too.

- Better than nothing. - Yep.

Not too chatty.

Of course, I'm ecstatic to have fish on day two.

But if we can get some more food down the road,

that's what's needed to make it the full 14 days.

I believe there's another fish or two in this pond.

So, I saved a little bit of fish,

threw it on the hook right here.

It's nice and dry,

so it won't come off as easily as, like, fresh meat.

There you go.

We'll find out if we got any fish in here tonight.

It is morning of day numero three.

- Three. -Three, baby. What's that mean?

It's the start of the, the suck.

- Start of the suck. - Yeah.

So, um, I haven't eaten in a while

or haven't drink in a while,

it can be, it could become a very...

My, the military side comes in.

I mean, I can be very unpleasant.

-If it gets too overbearing, you know, unpleasant. -Quiet, yeah.

Not very nice.

So, if it gets too much, just let me know.

Tell me to take it cool for five minutes,

and that's all I'll need.

Are you feeling that right now?

- A little bit. - Okay.

- Thanks for telling me. - That's great.

A little bit.

I do understand I'm the only other person out here with him to...

communicate with and, uh, maybe unleash some of his

current emotional states with, so...

So, I'll be open to that.

I'm just glad to know that before experiencing it.

It's very mature of him, and I really appreciate it.

Today I'm going to try making a fish basket.

I've seen a fish basket work really well

for Laura Zerra in Panama,

and it's a great way to possibly get some protein.

My wishes were answered and I got a lobster.

Oh, my gosh, there's two.

That's awesome.

Although we're probably not gonna catch any lobster here,

I have every hope that it's gonna work.

A fish trap is simple enough.

I love, like, tangible, crafty things to do.

And so, this is keeping me busy,

my mind busy and, uh, hopefully it pays off.

I was gonna go look at the watering hole right quick.

Uh, see if I see any signs of movement,

check the line.

I know that a lot of people tap between day two and day six.

Nothing.

And a lot of that is due to hunger,

and missing home, missing their family.

I've been hungry.

I know what it's like to be away from my family.

So, I just gotta be able to have that mental fortitude

to push through all that.

I am done with the main portion of the trap.

Now, it's part two.

It's a matter of making a smaller cone to fit on the inside

as, like, a passage,

and then the fish hang out and are unable to escape.

So, it's kinda just like a filter to go in.

All right, I'm almost done here.

- That'll work. - Yeah, I agree.

It's gonna be a hot day.

Mmm-hmm.

Doesn't look like anything.

Nah.

Huh?

Nah.

If that fishing line doesn't get any bites,

we gotta have some backup options.

My biggest concern moving forward

would be getting protein.

I was hoping that fish would be our main source of protein out here,

but we have to expand our options.

But there are ground birds.

Yes, a lot of 'em.

That's where I'm gonna set up a trap.

We get some material for cordage,

we can make so many things including that trap.

And then, uh, we don't have to

-actively do things in the heat of the day. -Yup.

You know, I've been a super fan for many of years.

And I've seen survivalists

build spring snares for food like Elijah in Botswana.

And we got a yellow-billed hornbill.

Oh, my God.

Big old beautiful starling.

So I'm hoping to set up a few traps.

Which one of these birds are going to be dinner?

Look at all of them.

All right, concepts.

You want me to hold the cordage?

You want me to hold it?

Yeah.

My mind is not working right now.

I mean, you and me both.

I do notice that Billy is also needing to slow down a little bit.

My mind is not working.

Cognitive ability to problem solve

as quickly as he would like is obviously not happening.

What if you just tried to set it.

-No. No. -No?

Don't You need to find like the...

-the branch it's gonna be attached to? -No.

Because that can factor in how you...

Five minutes, please.

Five minutes.

You know, when I'm trying to work through things,

I, uh...

I don't like people chatting with me too much.

-Give me some more water, yeah? -Okay.

My mind's fuzzy.

I can't think straight.

Yeah, that's happening.

-It's okay. Mmm-hmm. -Apreesh.

You can watch every single episode

and come up with a game plan.

But until you're out here, feet on the ground,

no clothes on,

you absolutely have no idea what to expect.

There we go.

Think I needed a little bit of water.

Got it. Got it.

A spring snare is made by anchoring cordage

to a tree branch on one end,

and forming a loop on the other.

The loop is then attached to a trigger mechanism on the ground.

When an animal steps on it, it will release the branch

and snare the prey.

A birdie comes in here,

it steps on this little sticky here,

triggers this and up it goes.

It's gonna be a bitch of a night.

I need to protect our poles at all costs.

-Oh, my goodness. -Oh, my gosh.

- Ooh. - We're experiencing it on the fan challenge.

You're really getting it.

Or the goes.

Fourteen days. Humbling. Humbling, humbling rain.

It sucks.

Last night, it was draining.

But, you know, we pushed through it.

Honestly, I think we took it like champs.

Today is going to be recouping.

We lost a lot of energy, calories,

keeping ourselves warm.

As a fan of the show,

watching these survivalists endure far more rain

and far more intense cold conditions,

I wonder what is that like?

Like, what in your mindset gets you through those moments.

And last night was a great taste of that.

So my trap has definitely been sprung.

I'm not sure if it was from the rain or an animal.

Who knows?

Let's reset and try again.

Three grasshoppers...

in the bird trap.

I'm trying to chop something down that's not...

covered in thorns.

We had just enough firewood last night,

and we're going to need some throughout the day.

We're gonna need a lot more this evening.

So, I'm just trying to get a head start

on procuring more wood.

-Oh, I need to lay down. -Lay down.

I'm feeling like every little expenditure of energy.

Yeah. Go lay down. No worries.

This is a marathon. You gotta take it slow.

If I was sitting at home watching myself as a fan,

I would tell myself, "What are you doing?

Keep moving."

The ground never looked so good to sleep on.

But I think that's a little naive now that I'm out here

because I stand up and I just, whoo,

I get lightheaded, but in a much more intense way

than I've ever experienced before.

It's concerning and it's tough to get through.

I wonder if I was at home watching 14-day Challenges

and saw like another person in my shoes, right?

-Yeah. -If I was like, "I really want to do that still."

Yeah, and knowing what I know now,

it's like I always talk crap about every single episode,

like, "Oh, these idiots, they should have done this.

They should have done this."

"I would have done it this way."

I was like, "Oh, I'll be able to eat.

I'll be able to sleep. I've been able to sleep."

My stomach is like, "Mmm-mmm.

You ain't eating nothing, homie."

My body. My body is hurting.

Sam's pretty rough right now.

She isn't used to hunger deprivation

like I've experienced in my past turmoils.

I have been through hunger pains,

and she hasn't had that experience yet.

So I think the lack of food is really hitting her hard.

As much as it pains me to say this,

but if Sam continues on the path

that she's been down the past couple of days,

I honestly don't think that she'll make it to day 14.

Made me a fish spear,

see if there's any larger fish in here that I can spear.

Hopefully, I can put all of my knowledge to use

and get her some protein in her belly.

Whoa-ho-ho-ho-ho!

There is definitely a fish in here.

I just hit his head.

Big catfish.

Oh-ho-ho-ho.

I can't think right now.

Not enough food in my system

-to think straight. -I know.

There's something out there.

-What? -Something over there's stomping around.

There is an elephant right there.

There's an elephant right outside, right above my...

Uh-oh.

- I see him. - He's right there.

I see him.

Go on, now.

Hi, big boy.

Go on, now. Get out of here.

Whoa.

He's like trying to compete with us.

What?

Oh,.

The elephants were exciting.

Definitely the most action we've had the whole time.

-Mmm-hmm. -Got a little close for comfort

at one point.

Not in a pleasant mood

due to little to no sleep last night.

Last night was miserable.

You know I can go without food,

as long as I got sleep.

I can go without sleep as long as we got food.

But the combination of the two, it's a one-two punch.

What's your plan?

Sit here.

Better if I give you space and not talk?

it don't matter.

I'm still gonna be irritable

whether you sit here and talk

or whether you go and do your own thing.

At this point, I think I'm just used to functioning sleep deprived,

but it's really no fun.

I can function.

I'm just not very pleasant.

This is a different side of him today.

So I'm gonna tread lightly.

Keep positive.

Try not to poke the bear.

I'll be back. I'm going on a walk.

Trying to bring home some food or something.

Billy is exhausted, and I think that motivated me

to do something for the betterment of the both of us.

There are so many berries in this bush.

In this buffalo thorn bush.

It's just a little hard to get to with all these thorns.

I have had multiple sleepless nights and... I'm...

I'm trying to find a good way to say this.

I mean, if I were to act the way Billy was this morning,

every day that I've been sleep deprived,

this would have been a really hellish experience.

They still have like a flavor

and like a sugar property to it.

So...

Okay, I'm gonna head back now.

-Howdy. -Howdy.

Did you drink your water?

Yep.

What did you find?

Look at you.

Where did you find those at?

Good deal.

I like it.

Good job.

So I want to apologize

for being not so pleasant this morning.

Not so talkative.

Being kind of ornery.

But, you know, the lack of food and lack of sleep,

I think really hit me hard this morning.

So I just wanted to apologize.

That's it. Good to go.

All good.

I would not change my partner for anything.

You know, I've relied on myself

pretty much my whole life for everything.

Um, this is teaching me how to rely on others

because this is a team challenge.

-Salute. -Cheers.

Thank you.

Good girl.

Hmm. They're sweet.

Like candy.

My stomach's saying, "Give me more."

Uh-huh, like 3,000 more of them.

That's a good little treat.

Not too shabby.

So now for the day, all I'm going to be focused on

is that fish that's out there.

I'm going to go out there and find some bait,

throw some lines in the water.

I'm like dreaming of like some warm like white tender...

...cooked on the open fire meat.

I love Africa, but this is...

-A little daunting? -Uh... A little grueling?

When you're not in a home and at your environment anymore,

-it's, uh... it's much different. -For sure.

This is my favorite show in the entire world,

and I'm out here living the life, living the dream.

As much as I wanted to come out here and make Africa my bitch,

this experience has definitely been humbling.

I'm gonna get one more line out.

It's definitely... definitely makes me miss my wife, my kid.

That's another motivation to push through the entire 14 days.

Oh.

Did you hear that?

I'll go check my lines.

That was a big jump.

Oh,.

My line's moving Oh, my goodness.

- Oh, my goodness. - Holy.

So we just found us some breakfast.

-Billy-- -There's some termites here too.

Billy was just sitting here, and see those guys right there?

Just, yoink.

The source of food of termites gives Billy and Sam...

almost zero calories.

This will provide them with little to no protein,

which should not help them.

At all.

But watch them as they make it to day 14 anyways.

- Oh,. - My line's moving.

Oh, my goodness.

Whoo!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yep. There's one of my hook.

Wow!

Oh, my God.

Oh, my God, I'm gonna cry.

I'm ecstatic when I see that fish jump

out of the water on the line is...

That means extraction.

That means we're getting there.

Bill "the Wild."

Yeah. We're eating some dinner tonight.

Look at that big old boy.

I have the best partner ever.

Look at that catfish from my head

almost to my belly button.

We haven't had any protein since day 2, so this is a big relief.

Ah! It smells so good.

-Cheers. -Cheers.

The moment it hits my mouth just forced me to close my eyes.

It-- it melts in my mouth and it just like-- it's pure bliss.

Mmm. The fat. Oh, my goodness. The fat down by the bone.

Oh, we so needed this.

That hit the spot.

I'm gonna feel like a freaking new man tomorrow.

As a fan of the show, I am excited as can be.

Landing this catfish was definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

Thank you, fish. Thank you, Billy.

Yeah.

I think I'm gonna sleep good tonight.

Nothing can stop us now.

Let the countdown begin.

Here we are, night number 13.

That means extraction tomorrow morning.

We get to eat some regular food

and talk to our loved ones.

This is the longest two weeks of my life.

It feels like almost a year. Like a year in Afghanistan.

It's a long two weeks.

So I appreciate you so much, Billy.

You as well.

What day is it?

Morning of day 14.

What? Say what?

Are you ready? Day 14.

I'm so ready.

I'm ready to get shakin'.

Look at this map. Determine which way we got to roll out.

All right.

Bye, Belma.

Let's take a peep of that map.

Looks like there's a little hill here, a big hill here.

So we're gonna have to head to the hill

and see if we can find a road

to find an extraction.

-That way. All right. -That way.

Let's go.

To the hills we go.

Head for the hills.

To make it to their extraction point,

Sam and Billy will need to navigate

through two miles of dense, thorny scrubland,

while keeping an eye out

for herds of territorial elephants,

rhinos, and the deadly puff adder.

Then they must hike nearly a mile up a steep, rocky incline to the summit

of one of the highest peaks in the area.

My body feels like 60 or 70.

Mmm.

This looks like it's gonna be riddled full of thorns here.

Ah! That's a good one.

Oh! Oh!

Ouch! Ouch!

Ouch! There's so many thorns.

Ow.

Having fun yet?

Hey, there's the hill.

That's a heck of a hill...

for an extraction point.

Keep following the game trail, see if it goes up that way.

Yeah.

The terrain is changing with the elevation gain.

Yeah.

Now it's getting steeper and steeper and steeper

with each step we take.

It's just getting more and more steep as we go.

Yeah.

I think this may be it, Billy.

This may be it.

Look at that.

Wow!

Some crazy mountains off in the distance, huh?

I could cry.

I do hear a grumble.

-I think it's coming over-- -I see a glimmer.

Hey!

Awoo!

-Yes! -That's the truck.

Oh! Good job, Sam.

-Oh, Billy. -I couldn't ask for a better partner.

Let's climb down and get to that truck.

Let's go.

You know, being a fan, it's harder to actually live the scenario

than it is to sit on the couch and critique everything.

It is very humbling.

It's made me realize it definitely makes me miss my wife,

my kid.

You know, I look forward to my next kid coming in two months.

It just makes me appreciate them more.

Look at that, Sam.

Truck's right there.

Right there. I can almost touch it.

There she is.

Oh, my God.

Oh, my God, it's here.

-Ready? Three... -Let's go.

Up and at 'em.

Here we go!

Let's go, baby.

Whoo!

It is unreal and so real at the same time.

-It is. -So happy it's done.

I'm so grateful to have had Billy as a partner.

I think the biggest surprise for being out here

is discovering how much I can endure,

the starvation, the dehydration, the lack of sleep,

and still put one foot in front of the next.

I'm proud of that.

Sam lost 11 pounds during the challenge

and her PSR rises up to 6.0.

14 days with only two meals.

There's no other experience quite like this.

This is absolutely the number one thing that I wanted to do

in my entire life.

And now I'm one of the survivalists, like EJ and Matt.

It's an honor to have my name amongst them.

Billy dropped 15 pounds.

His PSR rises to 6.7.

- We did it. - Yeah, we did.

So cheers!

Goodbye to South Africa.

Peace, South Africa! Whoo!
