[low growling]

Oh, hell no. Hey! [shouting] Hey!

There are [bleep] lions right outside of our [bleep] boma.

- [low growling] - [voice shaking] They're huge and they won't leave.

- [roaring] - [Jaclin exclaiming in fear]

[bleep] this is it. This is the day we die.

[Jaclin] You leave me out here with the [bleep] rhinos.

I am extremely nervous today.

My first impression of the Kalahari desert

is it's very chilly.

So that worries me a little bit.

[Michael] Kalahari literally means "Land of the Thirst,"

and I believe it 100 percent. Everything out here seems bone dry.

[narrator] The mighty Kalahari desert,

The largest stretch of uninterrupted sand anywhere on Earth.

Late fall sees virtually no rainfall,

with temperatures peaking at 100 degrees

and plummeting into the fifties.

But Jaclin and Michael are entering the challenge

as a sudden cold front has caused the mercury to drop into the forties.

This time of year also brings violent wind storms,

reaching speeds of up to 30 miles an hour,

making it even harder to survive.

[Jaclin] I'm extremely nervous about the lions,

There's lots of bones, it's a feeding ground out here.

[narrator] This section of the Kalahari has only one pan of water

for 30 miles around,

which attracts aggressive 3000 pound black rhinos,

- jackals, hyenas, and desert lions... - [hyena squeals]

- ...that have adapted to this unique environment. - [roaring]

Prey here is scarce, so the Kalahari lions are smaller,

and because they carry less weight, they are faster

and more aggressive.

[growls]

This is it. Now or never.

In my partner, I'm really looking for somebody who's gonna be mentally strong.

Sorry, Mom.

Everything out here is dangerous.

I don't really wanna be out here by myself,

you know, I do need somebody to watch my back.

All right, I guess this is my stop.

Kalahari, be good to me.

It's gonna be awkward to be naked around another man.

It's gonna be awkward to be naked around another man

that is not my boyfriend, that I do not know.

Guess it's time to be brave.

Back in touch with nature, feet to the dirt.

It's the way it's supposed to be.

- Hey, naked person. - How's it going?

- Good, I'm Mike. - Nice to meet you, I'm Jaclin.

Nice to meet you. I'm looking forward to this, are you ready?

Me too, yeah. What do you think of this environment?

- It's insane. And now... - Where you from?

- I'm from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, how about yourself? - Florida, okay.

I'm from Gary, Indiana. Is there any kids, wife, anything like that?

No kids, single. What about yourself?

- I do have a boyfriend and I have two children. - Okay.

[Michael] How does he feel about you being out here?

[laughs] I think any man would think it's awkward.

- Right? - [laughs] I... I agree.

It's awkward enough for us.

- [Jaclin] Yeah, we'll make it through. - Yes, absolutely.

I just love the outdoors, I'm super excited.

[Jaclin] I am a Criminal Defense Paralegal.

People generally think that I'm a girly girl.

But deep down, below all this makeup

and the nail polish, and the professional edge, I'm a badass

that loves to be outdoors.

Me and my kids, we do shelters all the time and make little forts.

I have fire building skills,

but I've never killed anything in my entire life,

or trapped anything successfully.

And I'm an animal lover, so I have a lot of things that I'm going to have to overcome

during this challenge.

I have a little girl that looks up to me,

and I don't think that she views me as a strong protector

like she does her father.

I'm a warrior, and my daughter needs to know that.

I hope that you make it through.

I want to show her that I could be a badass just like daddy,

and that if you put your mind to something, you can do it.

[narrator] Jaclin is tough and resilient,

but she's never had to kill her own food to survive.

She starts with a primitive survival rating, or PSR, of 6.3.

- So how about you? - Trapping and shelter building.

- I work on the water, so, um... - Okay.

...I'm not used to this at all.

But I love being outdoors. I love adventure.

[Jaclin] Awesome.

[Michael] I work in the maritime industry as a captain

as well as an engineer.

The reason why I'm out here doing this challenge.

The reason why I'm out here doing this challenge

is I've had some adversity in my life.

I have always been determined to come out

bigger, better, faster, stronger,

and not let the things that have happened to me in my past affect me now.

I'm going to be tested here.

And that's pretty much why I want to do this.

As a young adult, I broke both my hands

and all my fingers severed off,

and I begged them to reattach them and put them back

so that I could have use of my hands.

It took about a year to rebound from that.

It made me mentally stronger.

That determination is what I'm going to bring here to this challenge.

[narrator] Michael has overcome adversity before,

but as a deckhand on a fishing boat,

he has no experience in a desert.

He begins with a PSR of 6.5.

Well, looks like we're in this together, it's...

- 21 days, 21 days. - [laughs] That's right. We got this.

- Are you ready to see what's in our bags? - [Michael] Absolutely.

- Let's do this. - All right, let's go.

All right.

I have a machete for us to use.

I thought this would come in handy, uh, paracord.

[narrator] Michael and Jaclin have also been given a pot

to boil water, and a fire starter

to help ward off predators that will be sharing their water hole.

[Michael] The map.

So... I don't see much water.

Absolutely. So it looks like we're going to need to go north to find the water...

- Oh, yeah. - ...and maybe set up camp over there.

Yeah, it looks like we got puff adders, black rhinos, snakes, lions and...

- Those are the dangers. - [laughs]

- Are you ready for this? - It's now or never.

- "Now or never," I like that attitude. - Let's do it. [laughs]

- Let's do it. - It's an adventure.

[Michael] What do you think your confidence level is on completing this?

[Jaclin] My confidence and my clothes are gone.

The cold is awful.

I thought we were in Africa.

- How about you? - About a seven-and-a-half.

Okay.

You know, I like to believe myself

- as mentally strong. - I can be a little bit emotional.

That's okay. I think it's okay for people to cry.

You know, sometimes in order for you to move forward, just pick yourself up.

You know, sometimes in order for you to move forward, just pick yourself up

you know, you just need a good cry.

- If you get emotional like you said you were... - I do.

- ...don't worry about it. - Aww. You're melting my heart.

- I think you're my long lost bestie right now. [laughs] - [laughs]

- My Kalahari bestie. - I know.

[Jaclin] Michael seems absolutely wonderful.

I'm very thankful to have somebody that's empathetic like he is.

- Do you wanna make a pact? - We should make a pact, right?

We could do this. But we need each other.

- We do. - Yeah.

And we can't leave each other by ourselves.

- 21 days. - 21 days.

- Don't leave me. - I'm not leaving you.

- I'm not gonna leave either. - Don't leave me either.

No matter how much I cry.

I will not leave you.

You can cry as much as you want.

We'll cry the whole time if we need to, but we're making it out.

We're in this for the ride or die.

This is rhino dung.

[Michael] Yeah. And these are rhino tracks.

It's like two of my feet.

[narrator] The desert black rhinos range can span over 80 square miles.

Twice the distance of other rhinos.

Their dung is as unique as a fingerprint.

Their dung is as unique as a fingerprint

and is how rhinos identify their territory.

They can run at speeds of 34 miles per hour,

and are quick footed, allowing them to turn sharply towards a target.

All right. I think we might have to just watch each other's backs.

Very dangerous.

We really can't be alone out here.

Yeah.

There's some areas where you can't see past ten feet.

You don't know what's behind that bush.

They can be there watching you, waiting for you to screw up.

I think we need to check our surroundings often...

- [sighs] Yeah, yeah. - ...for the rhino and the lion.

Absolutely.

Man, I still don't see any water here.

[Jaclin] Yeah, I hope we're on the right path.

Absolutely. I'm starting to feel a little thirsty.

I hope we do find water.

I'm pretty worried myself actually.

Ah, this grass is brutal.

- [Jaclin] Yeah. - Check out these thorns.

I mean, they just get bigger and bigger.

This is... this is hell.

- Oh, look at that. - Oh [bleep]!

Holy [bleep]!

That is going to be perfect for some of the stuff we need here.

We can use some of this, soften it up and maybe make some shoes.

Ah, there's some hair on here, so we can actually make bird traps.

- Yeah. - All right.

I'll tell you what. We're going to deal with this later on.

I'm going to have to drag it or something.

- [Jaclin] Okay. - [Michael] 'Cause this is just absolutely tough.

This is tougher than nails, but we need it.

I am using a little bit of energy, but we need it.

Good job. Look at that.

- [Michael] There we go. - Beast. There we go.

- Carrying that. - I'll carry it.

Carry that.

I kinda wanna... knock that down so we get the bugs off of there.

[exclaiming] There's more coming out. [laughs]

Lots.

All right, let's go.

- Man, that's was a good find. - Hell yeah, it was a good...

Day one, and we got already some fur and some skin.

Yeah.

Thank you, Kalahari.

- [Michael] My mouth is getting dry. - [Jaclin] Mine too.

And we're using a lot of energy just trying to find water right now.

- All right, so the top of the hill. - Oh, my God!

And I still don't see any water.

- [Jaclin] I hope we're going the right way. - Yeah.

Let's make sure we're headed in the right direction.

- We still have the sun setting this direction. - Yeah.

So when it's to the left of you, you're headed north.

So we have the sun here.

We started there.

I think we just gotta keep going.

This just looks like it's quite a distance and...

- Okay. - The only thing we can do is keep charging through it.

Sure.

[Michael] Gotta find this water hole.

[Jaclin] Yeah. I'm so thirsty.

[Michael] Yeah, it's really crazy how fast you start to feel dehydrated.

- [Jaclin] It's a brutal walk. - Oh, yeah.

- I wonder what's on the other side here. - See what we can see...

Up here...

- [bleep] Wow. - Don't see any water.

It's just sand as far as you can see.

Yeah, and it goes on forever.

Um...

[Jaclin] I am starting to get worried that we might not find water tonight.

- [Michael] Yup. - This is hell.

[Michael] [bleep]

Don't see any water. It's just sand as far as you can see.

I am starting to get worried that we might not find water tonight.

Very concerning.

- We are dehydrating and using a lot of energy right now. - [Michael] Yeah.

[Jaclin] That sun is going to be going down here pretty quick.

Yeah, you know,

We got to build a shelter if we're not seeing the water.

Absolutely.

I am terrified of the night out here because you can hear all the animals,

but you can't see anything, and it scares me.

We can't be out here at night.

There's way too much danger. It makes me nervous.

Okay, so we've got animal tracks.

- [Michael] That's a good sign. - [Jaclin] Yeah.

Animals will lead us to water, so let's keep going with there's more.

Do you see that?

My imagination, or is that...

We found water. Holy [bleep].

[exclaiming] We found water!

Amazing. Look at that.

It doesn't look like good water, but we found it.

[Michael] Water is water.

[Jaclin] We really need this water.

[Michael] This is gonna be good.

- [Jaclin] Okay. We need fire. - This is good.

We need to start boiling water, and we need to start building our boma.

Let's just quickly pick out a tree we can use for our boma.

I don't set it up too too close to the water.

This is where everything's going to come to drink.

I think that one's pretty nice.

[Michael] Good. Check this out.

We have some entryways here.

What do you think about this spot?

[Jaclin] Looks like it's going to give us a bit of space.

We could even have our fire kind of right here at the entryway.

- Okay. - So it's like added protection.

We could also put an exterior wall out here, maybe.

- Yeah. That's cool. - Second barrier.

- I think I'm happy with it. - I'm happy with it.

- All right. - Got ourselves a game plan.

Yes.

I'm working on the walls.

I want to get a lot of thorn trees and bushes,

so that we can use it for protection on our boma.

- Then I'mma start to stack it around the perimeter. - This is a bird's nest.

So might as well use it to start my fire.

Fire. This makes me happy to be able to do this and contribute.

Man, I can see my partner right now, and I see that smoke flowing from the fire.

She's got it. She's got skills.

It's not the prettiest, but we have fire, and that's important.

I got us a fire. I'm going to go get water.

[Michael] Oh, that's awesome. That's perfect.

- Yes. We'll get it boiling right away. - Nice job, man.

- Nice job. - [Jaclin] You too.

Gotta to be really careful.

Some of these are so big, they could literally go through my finger

if I fell on them with my palm open.

Things that are gonna get you, not gonna want to mess with these.

[sighs] That'll have to do for the night.

- [water splashing] - Yeah.

All right.

- So you want to do mud? - Sure.

- Cover up? - Mud up.

- Yeah, it's a little chilly now, huh? - [Michael] I mean, it is.

[Jaclin] We're definitely going to have to keep that fire up.

- It's cold now. - Yeah. [laughs]

- We need the fire. - It's cold.

[both laugh]

Do the honors, man, taste it, see how it goes.

- No, it's not bad. - [Michael] It's not bad?

We can definitely deal with it.

Just be a little bit easy, it's like hot coffee.

- Thank God. - Right?

- Yeah. - It's actually a decent water source.

It doesn't look very pretty.

- It's like... out of the bottle. - [Jaclin] I know.

- [laughs] - I know. [laughs]

- [wind blowing] - Man, that wind is coming right up over this ridge line.

We're definitely nowhere near close to being done.

- So we'll suck it up tonight with what we got. - Yup.

- [shivering] Oh! - [Jaclin] It's so [bleep] cold.

We've gone through so much firewood because we gotta keep our fire big.

It's the only thing that helps.

It's so cold. Um, I don't know... [breath trembling]

...if we can make it tonight.

We're just so unprepared. Mmm...

- It's freezing. - Um...

Yeah.

[Michael shivering]

[Jaclin] I'm so [bleep] cold.

[Michael shivering continues]

[Jaclin] Really hoping the cold was gonna be over.

[Michael] Night one, it was [bleep] brutal.

Again, we went through all of our firewood last night.

We've cannibalized our boma on the inside as much as we could.

Just sucks everything out of you.

All of your energy just laying here shaking.

The ground is cold.

I wanna make a wall to keep the warmth inside.

Um, the side of the shelter that's over there is where the wind comes through.

So we need to figure a way out to conquer this so that we don't go home.

Because this will send us home.

[Michael shivers]

Collecting some tall grass

so I can create like a wind block on the inside.

Wind has not stopped at all today.

Probably means tonight is going to be just as bad.

So my lovely partner went and chopped all of this grass to dig into the ground

and embed into the ground so that we can have a barrier from the cold tonight.

[Michael] The cold nights absolutely stuck.

You're shivering the whole night.

Shivering makes you lose your body temperature faster and also, you know,

uses up your energy.

Get the sand in there for a base and it can kind of start just shaping together.

Kinda get that wall there going and just kind of keep kicking up sand

and it kind of holds it in place at the base and, uh,

helps keep that heat inside and also it keeps the wind out.

It acts as a barrier.

A lotta work but it'll be worth it.

[Jaclin] Oh, the wind is picking up.

- [Michael] Yeah. - Holy [bleep].

Here it goes again.

[Michael] The wind is killing my lips.

Yeah. This cold's no joke.

Um, it's day two, I'm still feeling pretty optimistic.

Still looking forward to doing the tasks that we need to do

and, you know, we got to eat.

So we're going to look for places to set traps.

[Jaclin] Nice little burrow right there.

There's tracks too.

You want to smoke it out? It's only one hole.

Can you even try a deadfall trap?

Well, if we smoke it out, I'm afraid that it's gonna be trapped in there.

It's not gonna have a way to get out.

So it might be better to do a deadfall or a spring trap here.

- [Michael] That's... - Got it. Oh, look!

What you got there? Oh, you got a cricket?

Yeah.

They like blend as soon as they jump, don't they?

Here it is.

Eat it.

No, man, let's put it in the pot.

- [Jaclin] Yeah... - If we could collect a couple of these.

[Jaclin] Yeah.

Something is something.

- Oh, my... - Good job. [laughs] Oh, it's chirping.

Stay in there.

[Michael] All right. So what part do you want?

- Do you want the head? Because the head... - I don't want the head

- or the ass. - Both.

I'm freaked out.

Take the head, I'll take the butt.

[gags] Let me see you do it.

Let me watch you do it.

Oh, God. You're eating it.

[Michael] It's like a sunflower seed, crunchy.

- All right, fine. - [laughs]

- Give me the [bleep]. - Do it.

I know you can.

- And its head, that's just like... - I know you can do it.

- ...a dream, it's my favorite. - Don't even think about it, just do it.

- These are my favorite, thank you partner. - Oh, no problem.

Thank you.

[Jaclin] Oh, I'm shaking. Eat it.

Oh! I'm eating a bug! Oh, my God! [gags]

Ew, and it sat on my tongue like bad alcohol.

[gags] I need water.

Never. [retches] I just ate a bug.

I never ate a bug. I don't like bugs.

- [Michael laughs] - [Jaclin] I wanna cry so bad.

[Michael] I know.

I'm tired of the cold [bleep] sand.

The wind is relentless.

We did fortify our boma.

So we got a secondary layer.

Pretty much a complete circle around us.

But wind just moving the actual tree that we're under.

It's [bleep] cold.

This is pure torture.

It's just blowing so hard.

It sucks.

[Jaclin] Wanna cuddle?

We're freezing.

No matter what we do. It's not working.

[Michael] I hate Africa.

[Jaclin and Michael shivering]

[Jaclin] It's so unbelievable, this cold.

[sighs wearily] I feel exhausted.

- You're good? - I might pass out.

[retching]

My muscles are locking up.

[coughing, retching]

I don't want to... [sobs]

[Jaclin coughing, retching]

[Michael] I'm really worried about my partner now. I need her on her A game

and she's been doing so well.

- [Jaclin groans] - I need her back in the game.

[Jaclin] I'm gonna throw up again.

[narrator] As Jaclin's condition continues to worsen, the medic is called in.

[retching]

Medic, you're going to have to come on inside.

I don't think she's going to be able to get out there.

She started to get the spins and she's trying to puke

but she doesn't have anything in her stomach.

But she's hyperventilating and she's not stopping.

- She's dry heaving like crazy. - [Jaclin whimpering]

[medic] Okay. Jaclin, relax. I'm coming in, I'm coming for you.

Relax, sweetie, relax, relax, relax.

Jaclin, look at me, look at me here.

There's nothing wrong with your breathing.

Relax. Slow it down. Slow it down.

Slow it down. Slow it down.

[medic] She's having a panic attack at the moment.

Watch me, watch me. [breathing deeply]

She's panicking. Breathing heavily, hyperventilating.

We must manage to calm her, reassure her.

That's all we can do now when she's in this state.

- Come on, slowly. You can, you can, you can. - [breathing heavily]

You can, you can. Look at me.

Control it. Calm down. Calm down, relax, relax.

I want you to stay on your side for me.

Keep your legs together, stay on your side for me.

Relax, relax. Everything's going to be okay.

- Everything's going to be okay. All right? - Okay.

[Jaclin] I underestimated what this challenge is on so many levels.

[Jaclin speaking]

You get a bit of rest. You can get some sleep.

You're gonna be feeling better after this, okay?

Perfect.

[Jaclin] I'm struggling really bad with the things out here.

I felt awful.

I burned all my calories throwing up because I'm panicking.

My morale is definitely down but I need to get over that [bleep] stat.

I think that's because we haven't really had a solid win.

I think my partner's optimism is kind of going down a little bit.

She struggled a lot yesterday. Kind of concerned me.

Schedule today is food.

[Jaclin] Hopefully we can secure some.

[Michael] Yeah, we need a couple of good wins to really bring it back up.

It's been cold a majority of the time here,

so we haven't really been able to explore the area.

But uh, we gotta eat.

- Look all these birds. - [Jaclin] Ooh.

I think we might be able to set up a trap.

[Jaclin] I'm emotional, frustrated, and pissed off, but I like to solve problems.

So we're going to go work on a trap so maybe we can get a bird.

Would kinda be a big win.

I'm getting some pods down right now for the birds for when we go to trap 'em.

There's seeds inside there

and these black seeds inside are what the birds like.

What is that? Oh, it's a lizard.

There he is. On the ground.

On the ground. Right there.

Whack that [bleep]. Damn.

Smack him.

[breathing heavily]

I thought I got him. Damn. [bleep]

- Nah, keep an eye over there. - Yep. I see him.

I had him, just try to keep him pinned down.

- Yes. We got him. - [Michael] Yes!

- I just killed my first thing. - You're [bleep] awesome.

- [bleep] awesome. - Oh, my God!

[exclaiming]

[Michael] Where did he go? Where did he go?

It's [bleep] ugly.

Ew!

Ew, I killed him. I killed him.

It's still moving.

- What the [bleep] - [Michael] It's just nerves.

Oh, I feel so bad now.

Ew. I can't look. I'm done.

I killed him. I'm good.

I can't look. [gags]

[Jaclin] I feel like a murderer.

It was minding its own business and all of a sudden whacked him over the head.

I feel awful.

I mean, you didn't even hesitate, so...

Props to you. I don't even think I'd need to push you to kill a bird.

I think you can do it on your own.

[Michael] She's not a killer. She doesn't like doing that stuff.

But I'm 100 percent proud of her.

I can't eat him. I feel really bad.

You have to eat all of him.

- No, you're... - Otherwise I'm gonna feel so guilty.

You're eating it too.

- I can't eat him. - You are going to.

- That's so wrong I can't. - You're not even gonna know it's a lizard.

I just murdered him. I can't eat him.

Well, you have to.

[Jaclin] Oh, I feel so guilty.

He was minding his own business and now his head's [bleep] chopped off.

I was really hoping for a bird.

'Cause it's like chicken.

Who knows what this thing's going to taste like.

And he's going to make me eat it.

This Florida boy will eat anything.

I'm from Indiana. We don't eat lizard.

We're going to eat something that eats flies.

- Yeah. - Yeah.

Flies and other little bugs.

Mouth' watering. I might throw up.

[Michael speaking]

[gags]

[Michael] No. Come on.

[retches]

- Don't... - [exclaims in disgust] It's too late.

You need the nutrients.

You need it. Don't throw it up.

God, that's [bleep] disgusting.

[Michael] You got it, lizard girl.

[exclaims in disgust]

It's making me nauseous.

Don't throw it up.

[gagging]

[Michael] Just distract yourself.

[exhales]

You feel better?

Nuh-uh.

[lion grumbling]

[Jaclin] Michael's building a spring trap right now.

So, while does there, I'm in protective mode.

There is a lion.

You can hear him, I can't see him.

But if you can hear him, that means they're close enough.

[exhales] It's nerve-wracking.

It is still the day time, It is still the day time,

so to hear them out right now...

Scary.

I don't know what we're gonna do

if a lion tries to visit us.

Been stepping it up a lot,

I've been getting the wood especially at night, running for the water

but I can't do everything, I'm not Superman.

Here I'm just kind of disguising the color of the paracord I'm gonna use,

it was black before.

Just trying to get it to blend in so it doesn't look so obvious.

Just built the spring trap for the first time, um,

You know, you have your spring right here.

You have your trigger down here that's connected to the other part of the trigger,

when something lands on this, it's gonna pop it,

make it shoot up, it's gonna tighten up the loop

and whatever's in there is gonna get caught up on it

when it's trying to eat this food here.

This could get something medium-sized or small.

So, whatever lands in there will be dinner, but let's hope that it works.

Stay positive. That's what I'm trying to do.

[Michael] Gonna be something in those traps today.

At some point, Africa's gonna provide something other than extreme weather.

I think there's a bird on our spring trap.

[exhales]

[bleep]

I'm so sorry, I don't wanna do this to you.

[bird cheeps]

I know, I know.

[Michael speaking]

Yeah.

[bleeps]

[wind blowing]

[bleeps] man.

That's what you get for being compassionate.

I should have just killed him when I had it.

I'm so [bleep] angry right now.

I just need a moment to kick my own ass.

[bleep]

You're so [bleep] stupid, why do you have to be compassionate?

Just [bleep] do what you gotta do.

I'm talking to birds, [bleep] man, I'm such an idiot.

My partner's gonna be so disappointed.

I've got some really bad news.

What's up?

[groans] Oh, God, I can't believe it.

What's wrong?

I [bleep] up, man.

What'd you do? Are you okay?

Yeah, I gotta collect myself though.

Take a deep breath.

[Michael exhales]

What could you have possible done? What's wrong?

There was a bird in our trap.

Okay... And I spent too much time...

[exhales]

...being compassionate and talking to it.

You couldn't kill it?

- It got away. - [Jaclin] Damn.

It is disappointing, but I don't hold it against you.

Now I know I'm not the only one that's struggling

with [bleep] chopping heads in Africa.

[Michael] I could totally do it, I don't know what happened.

I just... I was in my feelings.

[laughs]

[Jaclin] He's got a heart, too.

I don't think a heart out here is gonna keep us alive though.

I'm so [bleep] stupid.

You're not stupid, you have a heart, this is hard.

Yeah.

[animal growling]

My partner and I were laying down,

and I heard some noises.

Of course, when you think Africa, you think about the lions

and obviously anyone would want to see them wild, but...

when we're out here, vulnerable,

it'd be best to see 'em from a distance.

If you can hear 'em, it means they're close.

[Jaclin] I heard lions last night and I'm scared,

I've no idea how far they are or how close they are but...

A lion's roar is deep and grumbling.

It hits the pit of your stomach

and makes all the hairs stand up on your back,

and really brings you back into the reality of what these animals can do to you.

We're starving to death,

and without food, mornings are really, really hard.

I'm gonna attempt to make a deadfall trap while my partner is sleeping.

Michael's been doing a lot of work

and it makes me feel good to contribute to our situation.

Maybe I'll catch something to wake him up to.

So he doesn't feel like I have to depend on him for everything.

[narrator] When a small animal goes for the bait under the rock,

the trigger is nudged and drops,

causing the weight to fall on the prey,

killing or trapping the animal.

[Jaclin] I'm trying not to be so emotional.

I wanna stick this out.

Tired of being a victim to the Kalahari.

I'm ready to own this place.

[bleep] got it.

I'm gonna make two more.

[Michael] So spooning isn't really doing much at all.

I don't feel a difference in the body temperature, so...

I'm gonna collect some of these dried branches,

it's nice and thick,

it's not a lot of open space on it,

it'll kinda create a wall, another little barrier.

It'll help block the wind.

[Jaclin] This is the cowboy bed method,

you dig a hole, you fill it with coals

and then, you cover the coals up.

And it acts like a heating pad in the sand to keep our body warm tonight.

We need more than just a fire and body heat.

It's not the best but it's going to, hopefully, help just a little bit.

Oh, that wind is kicking up.

It's getting cold.

It's suffering, it's pure suffering.

We sleep in this [bleep] cold every night,

No matter what we do, it's not working.

We're almost out of wood.

I don't know what to do.

I'm freezing.

I'm pretty much ready to tap at this point.

I'm miserable.

I underestimated how cold it would be.

I'm losing hope that we're gonna finish this.

No one can stand these cold nights.

[Michael] Let's check those deadfalls.

[Jaclin] Let's do it, maybe we have mice and we can make some broth.

[Michael] It's a beautiful day outside except for the fact

that it is windy like a hurricane.

I don't usually experience winds like this, at all.

Unless it is a hurricane back at home.

These winds are chilling to the bone,

a lot of these animals, they're not visible, it's been too cold, too windy.

These guys are just hunkering down and you can tell because,

you know, when you walk past some of these mice holes,

They've actually pulled in grass to their holes to insulate.

[Jaclin] Oh, I think we got one.

Oh, he's under there, did you hear him crunch?

There is one in there.

[Jaclin] Oh, okay. I'm gonna walk away.

[Michael] But he's not alive.

[Jaclin] Oh, the other ones are set off, too.

Oh, and I... Oh, okay, yeah, I think we got a few.

[Michael] Yeah.

- [Jaclin] My deadfall worked. - [Michael] Your deadfall worked.

- So on the traps, you used blood and grass and seeds? - Blood and... yeah.

- Oh, look at you... - [Jaclin] Yay, got another one.

Look, Gemma,

Mommy set up traps and brought home dinner.

I know you actually have a pet rat, so you might freak out,

but just be proud, 'cause this was really hard.

So, you ready to, uh,

taste this?

We caught two mice this morning in the deadfall.

Uh, my partner was kind enough to gut them and turn it into a soup,

so it'll be easier for me to handle.

And the soup, to me, looks like a pot of brains.

I really don't want to do this but here we [bleep] go.

It's actually not bad.

[exhales]

It's not bad.

Mmm, it doesn't have flavor to it.

My God.

The bones are crunchy but it's really not bad.

It's better than nothing.

[groans and shudders]

The nutrition that she's eating is not gonna be enough for her to get by,

but I can't force her to eat anything.

And I can only ask her to do it.

I know that she's smart enough to listen to her body,

so when she really gets to that point, I'm sure that she'll turn that around.

Uh-uh, uh-uh... [gagging]

[Jaclin] Think I wanna eat mice? No!

[wind blowing]

[Jaclin] Ooh, here it comes again.

I'm so disappointed that the weather's like this.

It's frustrating.

I can't stay in this cold another day.

[narrator] The chilling winds and unseasonably cold temperatures

that were expected to last for only a few days

have now persisted for more than a week,

and show no signs of letting up.

Producers decide to step in.

- Hi, guys. Jaclin? - Yes.

- [producer] Michael? - Yes.

This is like a hundred-year cold front

and due to that extreme nature of this event,

I, as the producer of the show,

have left you an item out on the survival area that I want you to go find.

Okay.

[Jaclin speaking]

[crying] My, God.

[crying]

Thank you.

Thank you.

This animal hide, it's our only lifeline right now.

[Michael sighs] This is fine. Let's get warm.

Oh, gosh. Jaclin.

- You can spoon me. Come here. - [Jaclin shivering]

Just wanna hide from the wind.

[Jaclin] It's so great.

Never been so grateful for something in my life. [crying]

[Jaclin] Oh, there's definitely something out there.

All of a sudden, we heard this, like, huffing outside of our boma.

- And... I don't know. - [low animal grunting]

- [bleep] this... - [Jaclin] Hey!

There are [bleep] lions right outside our [bleep] boma.

I hear their [bleep] growls and their paws are [bleep] huge.

[Jaclin] Oh, my God.

- Back up a bit, we're just gonna get next to the fire. - [Jaclin shivering]

Uh, this is [bleep] outta control, sweetie.

They are huge predators, and they won't leave.

[growling]

[lions growling]

This is [bleep] dangerous as [bleep].

- Hey! - [bleep] It's... they're...

Back up.

They're huge and they won't leave.

[Jaclin] Hey!

Hey!

I think they're gone.

[Michael] The animals are moving in.

[Jaclin] Lions could absolutely get ahold of us if they really wanted.

[Michael] Yeah, this is crazy.

I'm ready to go home.

We're not here to kill ourselves.

- [Jaclin] Do you want to? - I want to.

[Michael speaking]

I'm willing to stay if you stay.

I can't,

although I am pretty beat up and it does sound appealing to go home.

I think we should stay for a little longer

and just try to push through, I know that's not what you want to hear, but...

I just, I just know my family. It's gonna be like, "I told you so."

[Michael] Don't do it for other people, do it for yourself.

I know, but I wanna do it for my child, too.

This will forever be the thing that Jackie couldn't finish.

Just the story of how I quit.

I didn't come here to do that. I came here for myself.

- Is that better? - [Michael] I broke both my hands,

it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

I don't have anything to prove to anybody at home, I don't care.

And I've never had to prove anything to anyone.

'Cause that's not how I live my life.

I feel like you're gonna push yourself too far just staying and...

I don't think I'm in the same place as you.

And I don't have anything to prove.

[Michael speaking]

Uh, when you're ready and you say "tap out," I'm there with you.

[Jaclin] I gotta give it a chance.

Michael does seem uninterested.

I know that he's just here for me and I'm really relying on someone

that doesn't even care to be here, it worries me.

I speak for myself, I hate when people do this.

When they can't be real with themselves.

He's got everything to say about my journey,

doesn't care what people think, then go home.

If I wanna stay, I wanna stay. Mind your own business.

Maybe he should think about what he said and quit worrying about me since...

You know, he's not judgmental and doesn't care what people think.

You want to go home? Go home, big baby.

[Michael] We both made a pact that we're gonna stay together, so,

I totally respect it. I'm actually gonna take it moment by moment

and see how this goes.

Headed down to check my traps.

I see some kind of kill...

Here...

It's definitely a lion kill, real close to our boma.

It looks like a fresh kill, that's alarming.

We knew they were here. There could be a lion 10 feet away from you

behind a bush and you wouldn't even know it until it was too late.

Maybe... Yes, there is.

All right, this is a score.

There's... I see some marrow and I can feel it in there.

It's like a jelly substance

and that's got a lot of nutrients in there,

so if I can crack these bones open and there's stuff in there,

that's really good.

Picking up a chunk of dead animal and using it,

you know, to consume.

It might be crazy but you have to do what you have to do,

if you wanna live.

We're gonna crack 'em open and see what's going on inside of 'em.

[growls]

[Michael] Found a portion of a kill.

On the part that's got open bone,

if you reach in, you can feel the marrow.

- [Jaclin] Does it look pretty fresh? - [Michael] Oh, yeah.

This is what's gonna get us by.

[Jaclin] Michael was able to find some bones out there that were extra fresh.

[Michael] I'm gonna try to hack away this bone, so I can get to the marrow.

[Jaclin] I'm very, very appreciative of Michael right now.

[Michael] That strip, right there, is what you're looking for.

Now I feel like an ass[bleep] for being so mad at him because...

I have a good partner.

And he's a good person.

[Michael] All right, so now that I have a source of energy.

[Michael] All right, so now that I have a source of energy

that we can ration out, I can put it in a tree

that's a little further away from us.

I just want it off the ground. Leave that for later. I'm gonna go cook this up.

Boil it, get all those fatty juices around the water.

Mmm-hmm.

Think of it as like a nice soup that's got a lot of fat in it.

[narrator] Similar in consistency to butter,

the yellow bone marrow found in bones is composed mostly of fat.

Yeah. Now this is a game-changer.

I'm really happy,

it's that one win that could be so crucial,

it just makes it a better experience, a better relationship

and better survival.

I feel my cholesterol going up as we speak.

[laughs]

It's like eating butter.

Straight up.

[lion roaring]

[animal grumbling]

[Jaclin] Please don't be a lion.

[Michael] Feed the fire.

- [Jaclin] Hey! - [Michael slamming sticks]

Hey!

[bellowing]

[Michael speaking]

[Jaclin speaking]

[bleep]

[Michael] This is it, this is the day we die.

[animal bellowing]

[Michael] Never heard anything like that before in my life.

[Jaclin] No, I'm so scared.

[Michael speaking]

[Jaclin speaking]

- [Jaclin crying] - [Michael] I'm shook to the bone.

[Jaclin] That rhino was so big.

[Michael] It's all right, nothing will happen.

[Jaclin] We're sleeping in a bush,

And the rhino [bleep] our bush up.

He didn't give a [bleep] about the fire.

[Michael] This boma does not feel secure.

No, this boma feels like they can come in.

This is insane, this is [bleep] insane.

They were not scared of us at all. They were super, super curious.

- I don't think there's anymore sleeping. - No.

I'm done. I'm done.

Abort mission. Abort mission.

[Michael] That was some scary [bleep] last night.

[Jaclin] Terrifying, really.

[Jaclin] After the whole rhino incident,

I'm feeling really exhausted and depleted.

Oh, that was terrifying.

It's taking everything in me just to keep going.

Definitely rhino.

Yikes.

But we're at a halfway point in this challenge

and I didn't struggle this far for nothing.

[Michael] Over there.

- [Jaclin] There's rhinos. - [Michael] Rhinos, and yeah...

Went over that ridge.

[Jaclin] Oh, my God.

Why is it all torn up over there, though?

- Next to the rocks, that wasn't like that. - Uh-uh.

- Footprints by the water. - [Jaclin] Oh, that's scary.

We gotta be really careful today.

[Jaclin] Absolutely.

[Michael] That rhino visit was a wake-up call,

and it's really, really unnerving.

This isn't a game, this is serious.

And look, he was prancing around, all over here.

[Jaclin] That must mean that other water holes are drying up.

This is their last resort. So, it's gonna have a lot more wildlife

right next to our boma.

[Michael] Ah, it's nerve-wracking.

We had made a pact that we were gonna do this together.

I'm a man of my word, I don't wanna go back on that.

But, uh, I'm also worried about making 21 days at this point.

Getting attacked by rhinos.

There's predators lurking, it's getting a little crazy now.

It's getting a little crazy.

[Jaclin] I'm gonna go get some water really quick, okay?

- [Michael] Yeah, absolutely. Sounds great. - Refill it.

Keep your eyes open. This is super dangerous.

Just, uh, collecting some firewood

after last night, with the rhinos.

Wanna make sure we have everything we need.

[Jaclin] If a rhino were to start charging at 40 miles per hour,

There's plenty of trees in this vicinity that I can jump up in.

Now a lion, I know that you're not supposed to run.

Safety is my number one concern, I wanna go home to my family.

[Michael] You look that way, there's nothing at all except for field,

fields and fields of grass.

Uh, you never know what's hiding in there.

[Jaclin screams]

[Michael] She's screaming down there, I need to go see what's going on.

[Jaclin] Oh, my God. What am I gonna do?

[Jaclin screaming]

She's got a bird in the trap.

Don't bite me.

[bird squawking]

- You're not getting away. - [Michael] Don't let it go.

[Jaclin] I got it.

- You wanna do it? - No.

You know, I know she's not one to dispatch anything,

so I'm willing to do it but it's also really hard for me.

- [bird squawking] - I'm so sorry, dude.

I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.

I have to do this.

It's done.

[Jaclin] Thank you, God.

Thank you.

I feel bad, but thank you. [crying]

[Jaclin] Me at home would help him but me here is hungry.

[Michael] I buried the head of the bird just out of respect.

There is a soul inside of an animal.

There's no reason why they should just be tossed like a piece of garbage.

[Jaclin] Thank you.

[Jaclin speaking]

It's really good.

It kinda tastes like turkey.

This reminds me of my grandma on Thanksgiving day.

I'm struggling really bad with the things out here to eat.

So much better than the lizard and the cricket.

Mouse...

I'm very thankful for the bird

and as weak as I'm feeling, I'm very blessed to have it.

That is the heart.

[Jaclin] You can just eat that sucker, right out the bird?

It's super respectful to eat it.

That's how you honor what you kill.

You usually walk away for this part.

[Michael] Respect for the bird that gave its life for our first real meal.

Out here in the Kalahari.

Gross.

The big victory didn't really change too much,

it did partially, but it's still freezing cold

and the lions and rhinos are closing in,

it's just getting harder and harder.

Oh, my knees.

Last night, the rhinos were super interested in us, so...

Gonna be prepared, in case they come again tonight.

We got our wood pile.

That's our, uh, door.

It is a little bit chilly. It's windy.

So that's not really good.

Hoping that it's not another cold night.

[wind howling]

We're freezing, we're miserable.

We're questioning what the [bleep] we're doing anymore.

We don't have much fat on our bodies anymore, it's leaving us.

I can't wait for day 21.

If we stay alive long enough.

Last night was brutal

and I'm not really sure how many more nights of that I can take.

[Michael] We have to collect wood, chop it,

and I'm gonna need you to really help me out today.

[Jaclin sobs] I feel so weak.

These tasks are just getting to me because it's just me.

Supporting two people, for the next nine days,

I mean, I can do it, but...

Just gonna be a little bit more rough on me.

Especially if, you know, she's just

trying to sleep the time away.

[Jaclin] Michael's frustrated with me for sleeping and I understand.

I just don't know what else to do.

[sniffles] I'm nothing but tired.

- [birds chirping] - [Michael] I would like to make one thing clear.

I came out here for an adventure.

I came out here for a chance of a lifetime.

And, uh, also I came out here to have fun.

This is not fun anymore.

Job's never done.

[bleep] man, when does it end?

Out here sucks.

[thunder rumbling]

What the [bleep] is that [bleep]?

The weather changing is super scary for us.

If it rains, we're definitely getting hypothermia. No doubt.

- [thunder rumbling] - [Jaclin] There's no way.

No one's tapping. It's way too cold.

I can't.

[thunder rumbling]

No, Michael, I don't see that.

[sobs] There's no way.

That sure as hell is bad.

There's no way we can sit in the rain.

Holy [bleep] if it rains. I'm getting scared.

[Michael] I'm not getting caught out here

in some crazy ass [bleep] weather

that we're not prepared for. We're naked.

[bleep]

[Jaclin] What's your heart telling you?

I told my mom I wasn't gonna kill myself out here. There's no heroes out here.

I know.

If you go, I'm going.

But if we tap and it doesn't rain, I'm gonna be so mad at myself.

Africa has done nothing but kicked our ass.

[thunder rumbling]

[thunder rumbling]

Holy [bleep] if it rains. I'm getting scared.

[bleep]

[Jaclin] I can't do the rain in this cold.

I've been trying so hard.

[Michael] From the get it's been insane.

We've been dealing with a hundred-year weather pattern.

It's been blowing wind day and night.

Every time you turn around there's more sand in your eye.

Jackie woke up with a puffy eye

and she might have a couple of infections.

It's been one extreme after another.

And I can only take so much as a person.

You can't beat Mother Nature.

[birds chirping]

[Michael] My answer is [bleep] it, go. Are you 100 percent okay with that?

[mumbles]

What?

I'm just scared if it doesn't rain, we'll be bummed out.

But I'm with you.

I can't take the elements anymore.

Well, we made a pact so honor the pact. Let's do it.

Okay?

Okay.

The Kalahari is not only beating me up,

but exhausting my soul and I'm very frustrated.

This challenge takes everything out of your body

just to keep going.

Boma to Paul. Boma to Paul.

[Jaclin speaking]

[Jaclin] It's not gonna rain, I don't think.

It's just a windstorm.

[Michael speaking]

Do you think your body can go more?

If we push.

Are you not coming with me now?

- You want to stay? - [Jaclin] Come sit.

I just, I don't think it's rain.

I'm just thinking it's a windstorm.

[Michael speaking]

[Michael] I don't have much gas in me to make it.

I don't care about the 21 right now.

It'd be nice, but realistically,

we dealt with brutal, brutal nights. We got attacked by rhinos.

We've had an adventure of a lifetime.

The struggles of a lifetime.

If you're ready, you tap, If you're ready, you tap,

and just see what tonight has in store for me,

and probably tap in the morning if it rains.

I'm good to go. I don't care.

I don't really like the idea of leaving you behind out here,

because we made a pact.

But if you wanna stay, you can stay.

I don't have it in me to do what I've been doing.

[crying] Okay.

Give me a hug. Come here.

All right.

[crying]

- You gotta be really brave, though... - [Jaclin sobbing]

- ...you gotta be realistic... - I will.

- ...and you gotta listen to your body. - If it's rough, I'm...

- I promise. - That's the only reason I'm leaving right now,

- is because I'm being realistic. - [sobbing] I know.

It was really nice to get to know you.

Let me get some water. [sniffles]

[metal clanking]

[Jaclin crying]

[producer] Hi, what's up, Michael?

Um, I've made the decision to tap.

[producer] Really, why you tapping?

I'm just, the weather, the conditions have just been out of control.

Um, I don't have it...

in me to keep going.

All right, let's get going.

[Michael] The pact when we talk about it,

it always goes back and forth, back and forth.

If we made a decision to leave, I'm gonna stick to it.

You don't, that's on you.

Please don't do anything crazy out here. Okay?

I don't think her chances of staying out here and surviving are the greatest.

I think they're pretty slim.

Because she is gonna learn that she has to do a lot of the work now.

It's all on her.

It wasn't ideal to tap, but out here it's life or death.

There's no heroes.

I'm being realistic about this and not gonna kill myself out here.

[Jaclin] Pact's gone. The pact should have been

that we're in this together for 21 days.

Not we're leaving together.

[sobs] This is gonna be extra hard now.

So it's all on me.

I'm not going home with excuses, "Oh, but me and my partner left together.

I couldn't stand starvation anymore."

Those are excuses.

And I'm not going home with them.

I feel like [bleep] leaving a woman in the desert, but she changed her mind.

And there's nothing I can do about that.

I feel betrayed a little bit by her.

It's time to move on.

[narrator] Michael's decision to abandon the challenge with one week left to go

brings his PSR down from a 6.5 to 6.2.

[bleep] hell.

I'm pissed.

Leave me out here with the [bleep] rhinos.

Dickhead. I thought we had a pact.

[birds chirping]

Michael was always saying, "There's no hero"

or "don't be a hero in this challenge."

But that's what I came to do. To be a hero for my kids.

Let them know I can do anything their dad can do.

So there is a hero out here.

And the hero is the person that keeps pushing.

People respect getting what you came for done.

I'm extremely nervous to be out here, tonight by myself.

But we shall see what happens.

- [insects buzzing] - [rhinos grunting]

I'm assuming it's a rhino.

Or a bunch of them.

Oh, hell no. I do not like this [bleep].

If they [bleep] come over here, I'm gonna open up a can of whoop ass.

I am not playing tonight.

Today has been a [bleep] day.

I'm feeling feisty and I'm not [bleep] around tonight.

Shake 'em with my horns.

It's a little bit quiet now. I hear them off in the distance.

They better stay away if they know what's good for them.

My first night alone was pretty trippy.

Could hear the rhinos but they never bothered me.

I was very, very nervous that it was gonna rain.

I let the sky freak me out. I was panicking.

All those emotions for nothing.

This is what one night of wood looks like.

I got some backup. Got it all piled there.

Just in case.

It doesn't really look like a lot.

But I busted my ass for it.

And I think I'm feeling the effects of it now,

which is not good.

I got the hide on me.

I'm getting very nervous that it's gonna be cold.

But I am hoping that tonight will be a good night.

I made a mistake tonight, guys.

Oh, this is the last of my firewood going right now.

I thought I had more than enough.

And I still have a long night ahead of me.

The hide's not doing a whole lot.

I'm trying not to panic.

[exclaims] I made a big, big mistake.

Uh... Oh, God.

Mouth is watering like I'm ready to throw up.

Too many cold nights just to go home now.

I've got a massive headache.

Trying to drink water as best I can.

But my body's starting to reject it.

Never felt this weak in my life.

All that I can do is crawl out of the boma

with the hide wrapped around me and I collapse on to the ground.

It's definitely harder when it's just you.

You just lay around shivering all day.

On top of that I haven't eaten.

It's hard to get your water intake in.

I really, really contemplated last night about leaving.

So many factors against you.

I'm starting to realize that this is a do or die moment.

I don't wanna go home. I didn't push this far for nothing.

My brain's telling me to move but my body won't.

[exhales, cries]

I'm trying my best, I don't wanna go home. [sobs]

I'm definitely in survival mode.

Trying to remember to stick to the basics.

I need to keep drinking water.

I haven't been doing good at all this whole time with that.

I also need to eat something,

and the only thing that I have easily to consume

is the bone marrow in the legs that are hanging outside of the boma.

I need to take this hide off so I can move.

I'm fighting, I'm fighting for my 21 days.

Harder than anything.

These are something that Michael found and left behind.

He put 'em in a tree so that the predators didn't mess with us.

I need the marrow out of these.

[narrator] Since marrow is encased inside bones

it retains low bacteria counts compared to fresh meat.

When boiled, it can remain edible for weeks.

[Jaclin] I'm being positive about this marrow.

Hopefully, with just a little bit of bone marrow

and some water it will help me excel the next few days.

This is one thing that Michael taught me.

It's definitely coming handy right now.

Not an ideal situation.

But this could be the difference of me being able to stay.

I'm gonna get some shut eye.

Hopefully, I can wake up feeling a lot better than I did today.

Just a few more days left until I can hold my babies again.

Still can't believe that the girl that's scared of everything

is laying under a bush in South Africa. [laughs]

Solo. I love my daughter, Gemma, more than anything.

I want to show her that if you started something you have to finish it.

Even if you don't like it.

Even if you don't wanna do it,

you still have to finish it because you committed to it.

Never give up.

Even though I feel very depleted,

I think that I can catch a bird.

I'm gonna fix this one.

This was Michael's trap.

These animal hairs work better than the cordage for birds.

I'm an animal lover.

It hurts my heart that we're killing things out here.

So I don't know how I'm gonna react

when there is a bird in that trap.

[birds chirping]

[Jaclin] I'm gonna go down to the watering hole,

and work on hydration early.

I ate a lot of bone marrow last night.

I think the last time I ate it was that bird and it was...

I don't even remember, it was so long ago.

I could use protein,

but I'm still not keen on killing a bird right now.

[bleep]

[Jaclin] Hi, buddy.

[birds chirping]

Nice sized bird too.

I'm hungry.

[crying] It's okay. It's okay.

I'm sorry.

[bird chirping]

[Jaclin] I call it African ass water,

because every animal in the Kalahari desert has pooped in our water.

And stuck their butt in our water.

[Michael] And it tastes like it too.

[Jaclin] It tastes like rhino butt,

lion butt,

bird butt,

lizard butt.

Everybody's butt but ours.

[Michael] No, I was in there.

- Now his butt too. - [Michael chuckles]

African ass water and Michael. [laughs]

[Michael] Mmm-hmm.

[Jaclin] All it is is butt water.

[Jaclin] I'm sorry.

I'm hungry.

I don't wanna hurt him. [crying]

I need a friend more than the food right now.

Scared too?

[whispers] It's okay.

I'm not gonna hurt you.

[whimpering]

I look like a fool, but I just can't.

I know it's hard to find food out here,

but I swear that marrow's doing it for me.

I'll eat all that marrow if I have to.

All night long. All day long.

Go, buddy.

Go on, you're free.

Still got your head, why aren't you going?

I can't eat you... Good bye, you're welcome.

I hope that decision doesn't kick me in my ass.

I've been drinking bone marrow broth

to replenish my body and I'm starting to feel good.

To replenish my body and I'm starting to feel good.

I'm very proud of myself because I'm listening to my body.

Today's agenda, I think I'm gonna try shoes first.

It's most important for extraction for me.

And I'm gonna use the hide.

This part right here, is perfect size for my foot.

So I'm gonna cut it like that.

And then I'm gonna put two holes in the top,

and two holes back here.

And I'm gonna try to wrap it to my foot

so it'll hold it tightly when I'm walking.

And then the other two paws,

I'm gonna cut and make a top out of.

[crickets chirping]

Shoes, ladies and gentlemen.

These are called the "Jaclin."

Perfect for the African bush.

Surely did not get any more pricks or pokes.

I know that I can do this.

I'm fighting. I'm fighting for my 21 days harder than anything.

It's day 21. It's time for extraction.

This is the front of the top.

And then, I need to finish weaving it through here,

for two more holes over here.

Then, I'm gonna use the string to tie it in the back.

I'm very excited that I've made it to where I've made it.

Not bad.

We're good to go.

Throughout this journey I've suffered a panic attack,

cramping muscles, headache,

too many cold nights, black rhinos and lions.

I had to fight through all of that.

And I still can't believe that I'm here today,

and I'm super proud of myself.

All my hard work paid off. I'm almost there.

I'm gonna take my hide with me.

It's kept me warm all 21 days.

I think leaving the boma is bitter sweet.

Lots of memories have been made here.

I think I'm ready to go.

I even got my nice handy-dandy walking stick.

It's day 21 and I'm ready for extraction.

So the water source is right here,

I need to go all the way over here.

So, extraction,

looks like it's gonna be that way over to that big, big mountain,

which is quite far.

Little dehydrated today. I'm very tired.

But must make it to extraction.

[narrator] In her weakened state, Jaclin will walk six miles

across lion and rhino territory,

staying on the lookout for deadly puff adders

that are responsible for the most snake bite deaths in Africa.

She'll then have to ascend 300 feet up and over a rocky hill

and continue across the scorching savannah,

until she reaches a dirt road.

[Jaclin panting]

Think it's the hottest day since I've been here.

Rough time for this hike.

Wow, yeah, that's definitely a zebra.

This is a kill zone.

I'm thinking this was attacked by a lion, probably.

It's a vicious world out here.

I need to keep moving,

before these lions get me.

[panting]

Definitely need some water. [breathing heavily]

Dehydration set in really fast.

This hike is taking everything out of me right now.

And there's the mountain I'm looking for. It's so far away.

So tired.

[lion growls]

[Jaclin] Dizzy.

It's like I've been hiking forever.

My legs feel like Jell-O.

I'm [bleep] dying.

[breathes uneasily]

[bleep]

Scorpion.

Gotta be careful.

Definitely don't wanna step on a scorpion.

I'm getting closer to the mountain.

Which means closer to extraction.

Oh, my God.

These rocks are so hard.

I can't wait to hold my babies again.

[bleep]

I'm going to tell you about all the things I ate.

Oh, my God.

How my partner left me.

Heart's racing.

[breathing uneasily] Gotta keep pushing.

[inhales] Don't stop.

I can do this.

Oh, my God.

[exclaims] I'm starving.

Spaghetti.

Spaghetti.

Keep pushing.

I want that spaghetti,

I want my family.

[panting]

[groans]

Don't stop. [groans]

[faintly] Don't stop.

I can do this.

I can do this.

[groans]

[panting]

I see the road over there.

There's the car. [laughs]

It's coming. It's coming. [sobbing]

There's the car.

Oh, there's the car.

To pick me up.

Yes!

[crying]

It's over.

It's over.

Done. I did it, and I'm done.

[sobs] 21 days in South Africa and I'm done.

I did it! I finished by myself.

I want that spaghetti...

I would say to all the girls in the world,

that are similar to me,

people downplay you and make you feel weak or minimize you,

But you can demand the respect you deserve.

You just gotta go out there and put your mind to it.

[narrator] After surviving 21 days in the Kalahari,

seven of them by herself, Jaclin lost 17 pounds.

Her PSR rises from 6.3 to 7.4.

No one can ever say that I'm not a badass.

I hope my daughter never forgets

just because her dad is a male doesn't mean that females are any less.

And that I'm just as strong as him.

Just as brave as him.

And I can prove that I could do anything.

Gemma, I love you so much, and I hope you're proud of me.

I did this for you, baby.

Told you Mommy's strong.

I wanted to prove it and I did.

I love you so much. I'll see you soon.
