Original subtitles

Today, I fight.

I will compete to the death if I have to.

This challenge will weed out the weak.

There's no group out here.

It's every survivalist for themselves.

I will be the Last One Standing.

I'm not going home!

Let the games begin.

They've proven they're the best...

of Naked And Afraid...

..by dominating the harshest environments on earth,

With my bare hands!

Now the toughest survival competition

on the planet is back... Oh, yes!

...and more cutthroat than ever... No!

This time you either have the skills, or you don't.

...To put 14 elite survivalists to the ultimate test

in an all out battle of skill,

for 45 days, in Africa's Munzwa Valley.

To crown the best of the best... Yes!

Ah!

...and win $100,000.

This is what I'm live for!

Yes!

To win... I got him.

They must master their environment...

...pass grueling tests of skills...

We need to build torches in the dark

in Africa at night.

Bushcraft.

You have to bring out all the primitive survival skills.

Stick... and innovation.

-Three, two, one. -Go.

Come on!

Let's go. Let's go.

...or face immediate elimination...

Right now could be my last day.

It's insane.

...With more pressure...

-You got it, Dan. -To do these challenges,

it's brutal.

Anybody can go home on this challenge.

...And zero mercy... -Oh, my God. -I'm starving.

You think that makes me want to give you food?

You guys are pricks.

Dude, you're pissing me off. So, stop.

...Talking to the legend, bro.

Who will rise?

This is $100,000 on the line.

Who will fall?

Makes me feel like such an outcast.

This is the best of the best.

With only one winner.

...and who will be the Last One Standing?

I came here to win!

At the border of Zimbabwe in South Africa

lies the Munzwa valley.

Forty square miles of scorched savannah,

battered by blistering sun

with radical temperature drops

and violent wind storms.

Dominated by Africa's most notorious killers,

this vast battleground has been deliberately chosen

to present opportunities and obstacles

that test the complete skillsets

of Naked And Afraid's best.

They'll compete against both mother Africa...

...and the most deadly predators of all...

...each other.

Where money is involved,

it can make people do some unpredictable things.

Every day is a competition.

Every minute is a competition.

You can't slack out here.

They come armed with diverse skillsets

but a singular mission.

The only reason I'm here

is to be the Last One Standing.

Every competitor has been given

a primitive survival rating, or PSR.

Calculated by experts, the PSR measures

each survivalist's range of skills

based on their performance in previous challenges.

I can't believe I'm back for this again,

I'm likely going to have the biggest target on my back.

I did the previous Last One Standing

and I came in first to second place

in almost every challenge.

I am the first!

That is amazing!

I ended up within seconds of the title.

Waz had a better strategy, I'll admit.

Yes! - I didn't come out here to around,

I am getting that title this time.

I want to compete in this challenge

because I feel like it's really important

for people to see how capable women are in the outdoors.

I have been on some of the roughest,

Naked And Afraid challenges

that the world could throw at you.

I call myself a survival scientist,

I try and understand why something works

and why something doesn't work.

I make other participants nervous in this challenge

because I live survival.

That's right, the bear and the killer is back.

I don't need tools to survive.

Look what I got.

I don't need anybody to do this...

I'm disciplined, persistent and hard working.

The rest, they ain't competing with me.

I will be the Last One Standing.

I'm not here to win a popularity contest.

I'm here to win $100,000.

I've been flint knapping

and bushcrafting since I was a kid.

I shot my first deer with a stone tipped arrow

when I was 11, you know.

My bushcraft skills have been put to the trial

and implemented my entire life.

Rat for breakfast.

I've been with people out here

that call themselves legends, and I see through their

and I'm not scared to call them out on it.

I have lived my entire life,

trained myself to be the Last One Standing.

My opponents should fear me

because I've done three challenges

and every single one was hard as hell.

And I've never tapped.

Dude, we gotta hurry the up.

-It's coming in. -Yeah.

I wouldn't be here if I wasn't planning on winning.

I'm not a fake person.

So if there's something bothering me,

I'm not afraid to say it.

Trish, shut up!

-Right now! ...No, I'll never shut up.

Am I the best at anything?

Probably not.

Will I quit?

No.

I am back!

Daddy is here to play.

I might even have to spank a couple of these

little kiddos.

I did the first Last One Standing challenge,

And people underestimated me.

And this time I don't think they will.

Last year, I was the wildcard, you know

that's the Joker, right?

If you're not willing to eat maggots,

you're not really a survivalist.

But hopefully this year I end up the ace.

People think, uh... Lacey Jones, Tapout Queen. Right?

Okay.

Yeah, I've quit challenges.

But I have never, ever quit a competition.

On my previous challenges,

I was never much of a people person.

That's a rookie mistake.

Bye. Go on your walk, Charlie.-

I'm not here to make friends.

I'm here to win.

Love me, hate me. I don't care.

I'm about to win this.

Whoo!

I am my own worst enemy out here.

Get me out!

So this time I'm not going home

unless I'm taken out on a stretcher.

I've done four challenges.

I've never tapped out.

I've always put a big emphasis

on being being kind to my partners.

So let's see if the nice guy can finish first.

I'm a fierce competitor.

Dude, I could do this.

I'm here to compete, and I'm here to win.

I'm not your average survivalist.

I'm an athlete specializing in thru-hiking.

I live 10 months of the year outside,

I haven't had a bed since 2015.

Because I'm a monster and I don't feel pain.

Embrace the brutality.

As far as the scale of 1-10 and how competitive I am, -

I'm an 11... just like my PSR is gonna be after this.

I have many years of bushcrafting skills

working as a wilderness EMT,

I'm more the bushcraft nerd

that will make sure my technique is perfect.

And I'm confident that I have enough knowledge

and experience to win this challenge.

Africa, I'm back, baby!

Right now I'm thinking I have unfinished business.

Last year, it was me against 11 others.

This is what I live for!

I almost eliminated every single one of those suckers.

I've completed among the most days ever

in Naked And Afraid history.

Yeah!

This is now my eighth challenge.

I've survived on five different continents.

You name it. I've done it.

But now it's a new challenge, -

and I'm here to win, baby.

When I win $100,000,

I'm gonna spend every penny of that on therapy

for everyone else that I eliminated along the way

because they're gonna need

someone to cry to when I win this thing.

Oh, God. That's hot.

Oh, that's hot.

Oh, that's gonna be a painful one.

Found my bag... And there's nothing in it.

I've never started a challenge with an empty bag.

It's gonna be interesting.

Already a twist. It's just one.

There's only one bag.

Does this mean I'm by myself?

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I'm supposed to meet everybody by a big ass tree.

I see a big ass tree.

I see some folks here

that I know are premier competition,

and that's Gary, that's Dan.

There's a couple of wildcards here.

You've got Kate, you've got Patrick.

These are people that I don't know well.

There's 13 other people here,

something strange right off the bat.

But all of them are known to be a little bit spicy,

a little bit interesting.

There's some big personalities in this group.

My biggest competitor, skills wise out here

has to be Ky.

She's got a ton of skill,

an extremely formidable opponent.

What's up, Jeff? -

Damn. How many of us are there?

Look at that motley crew.

What's up?

You didn't get enough of this either, huh.

I came up upon a lot of people,

a lot of people.

Well, I'm more concerned about the ones that I don't know.

I don't even, I've never even seen Darrin.

You know, that guy looks like a dirty hippie.

He probably knows how to, like,

-catch all kinds of stuff. -He's willing to eat rats.

I mean, he might be...

He might be competition with me on eating stuff.

I don't know. We'll see.

Uh-oh.

There he is.

I'm super excited to see you guys.

Whoa! Look who's back!

-You got a mean girl in the house, buddy. ...Oh!

Watch yourself.

What's up?

Dan. He's a threat.

Of course he is. He came in second last time.

I came in third.

But he comes across as innocent,

maybe even cute, right?

But he's, he's kind of like a dolphin.

Have you ever seen a dolphin rammed into something

with its nose just to kill it?

Dolphins are.

I don't trust Jeff as far as I can throw him.

Not at all, Not at all.

He didn't have some magical epiphany,

-he's not a new person. -Jeff is still Jeff,

and I think he's gonna come out here

and shoot himself in the foot over and over again,

just like he did on the previous season.

We've got something on this tree.

That, we do.

You have been selected to compete with the best

of the best of Naked And Afraid.

Over the next 45 days, your skills and endurance

will be put to the test

as you secure shelter, water, fire and food.

The winner will be crowned the Last One Standing.

Oh! Oh, yeah.- - Yeah! -

Your first challenge starts today.

Oh! - -Wait a second. -Coming in hot.

-Okay. -Okay.

Each of you are competing as individuals.

-Jeff! -All right!

Women and men will compete in separate groups.

Men are going this way.

Women are going this way.

Starting with nothing,

the survivalists will earn their first tools

through a multi-phase challenge.

First, they will craft a primitive blade,

the most essential tool in a bushcrafter's arsenal.

Not having a knife or a machete,

all I have is a real thin rock and my bare hands.

This rock is not a knife, but it's doing its job.

It's gotten me this far already.

They will then use the primitive blade

to release a suspended Kukri knife.

Next, with their newly acquired knife,

they must improvise a primitive hook,

critical to compete with one of Africa's most deadly predators.

It's Nile crocodile, just sitting there watching me.

I don't wanna get too close to the edge

but, you know, I want that protein.

They must use their primitive hooks

to safely recover their floating map

from a crocodile infested gorge.

The last man and the last woman to reach their skull

will be immediately eliminated.

Whoa! - - Oh! -

It's getting real, real quick.

This is crazy.

The shortest challenge ever.

-Wait, wait, there's more. -There's more.

The competition starts now.

What?

Oh, my gosh.

Challenge on day one, baby.

Anybody can go home on this challenge.

This is exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.

I'm a little bit excited.

I'm a fierce competitor, and I think I'm about ready

to send some home.

For the first phase of the challenge,

survivalists must use whatever they can find

in their surroundings

to create a primitive blade capable of cutting a rope.

This will release a Kukri knife

and allow them to advance

to the next phase of the competition.

An instant rush of a ton of nerves.

Double elimination on day one?

That's unheard of.

I don't know what I want to use yet.

I want to try to get things right away.

I grab a couple of rocks, grab some flint

and I run straight for the ropes.

I find this, this animal bone,

I knew that was gonna be effective,

to me, it was like gold.

I know I can cut an edge from a rock,

but it takes time to find the right rock.

When I was in Castaways,

I made a knife to slither the pig.

This is different landscape.

I will find the right rock.

Anytime I'm looking for a good rock that will make a flake,

I'm looking for a very fine grained rock

and river rocks make great flaking rocks,

and there's a whole lot of them lying around here.

Feel like I'm almost there.

But, oh, God.

Ah, getting there. About halfway.

Good enough.

I've been a flint knapper for 33 years.

I saw a perfect piece of quartzite, drive a flake off of it,

and I knew I had the best knife

that anyone could make.

Great.

Thank you, guys.

That was easy.

As soon as I start cutting away,

Darrin's already got his knife down.

Uh, definitely gonna be tough competition in this.

He knows his.

The first half of the first competition was designed for me.

I don't even think it took me 30 seconds.

But let's see how the second half goes

because that's the one that matters,

the elimination half.

I'm down at the rope

and I have a vertebrae, a shell and an Impala horn.

No!

You either have the skills or you don't.

People are going to have to really

come out of the gate hard or they're going home today.

It's not easy to cut this.

Whoo!

Right now, could be my last day.

It's insane.

Jesus Christ.

I'm cutting the rope as fast as I can.

Maybe a quarter of the way.

Six of Naked And Afraid's best female survivalists

are competing in Phase One of this elimination challenge.

They must cut their rope to release a Kukri blade,

before moving on to Phase Two.

I've had to switch up,

'cause the other one went blunt.

But, uh, doing okay.

Close.

Watch out.

I'm super surprised when my knife falls

and I realize I'm the first one done.

Got it.

Oh, God.

Seven men remain in Phase One

of the challenge at the ropes

attempting to cut their blade from the tree.

Only Darrin has moved on to Phase Two,

where survivalists will use their acquired rope and knife

along with any natural resources they can find

to craft a primitive hook and retrieve a map anchored

in crocodile infested water.-

The map will reveal the location of the finish line,

and the last man and woman to arrive

will be eliminated from the competition.

I'm racing down, the temp's over 100 degrees

and the ground is just burning hot on our feet.

I got my choice of the wood, I'm in the lead.

I don't know what it takes to get the scroll out of the water.

So I go with the double strategy

and I grab a piece of iron wood

and I tie it to one end of my rope.

I grab a big fork stick that will float,

I tie that to the other end of my rope,

and that way I have something that will sink

and something will float.

Back at Phase One of the challenge,

Patrick is able to cut his rope

and retrieve the knife,

followed shortly by Fernando and then Dan.

All three now advance

to the next phase of the competition.

A couple other people that finished ahead of me.

And I realized I have some serious competition out here.

Ky is the first woman to move on

to Phase Two of the challenge, with Lacey moments behind.

For the second half of the challenge,

there's a log with a scroll in the middle of the water.

I know there's crocodiles in that water.

There's no way I want to even put a toe in there.

I'm going to have to craft something

I can throw out and hook on to that scroll.

I'm going to be the Last One Standing.

I'm going to prove everyone wrong.

I have the skills, I have the determination.

And I have everything to prove,

like, literally everything to prove.

I'm trying to find which one of these sticks

is going to work the best?

It's cutting, almost there.

Timber?

I don't even look back,

I don't know who's left behind.

I don't know who's ahead of me.

I just know that I'm not last, and that's all I care about.

As Trish moves on to Phase Two of the challenge,

Got it.

...Kate is close behind...

Uh, here you go.

...and Lindsey is quick to follow,

leaving only Dani remaining at the ropes in Phase One.

I didn't come all the way to Africa

to go home on the first day,

so, I know I'm not faster than them, so now I know

I just have to think better than them.

Hopefully that's going to give me some weight to throw out there,

because they look like they're out there pretty far.

The branches that are available,

I am not gonna be able to throw it

as far as I need to, so the obvious thing for me

is what's laying all over the place, rocks.

This rope's really heavy.

So as it goes through the air,

it's going to need some weight to it

to pull the rope as well.

It might be better just to use a rock,

but that might slip off.

So I went with a branch stick hook.

I have stuck my rope onto my log

on that stick there, and now I'm securing it.

In the men's challenge,

four survivalists have already moved on to the second phase.

Russell was able to cut his rope

and retrieve the knife.

Followed by Gary,

leaving only Bulent and Jeff at Phase One.

I'm looking for a long, thorny stick

that I'm gonna attach to the end of this

and count on the thorns to rake it in.

What I love about this competition

is like, it requires practical thinking,

you know, real world application

of your bushcraft skills

and putting them into action quickly.

Ow!

It's down to the wire right now, and Bulent and I

are the only ones still working on a rope.

I know one person is gonna be eliminated.

I have to beat Bulent,

and the items are breaking in my hands.

Come on.

I'm exhausted.

I mean, that's really damn close.

Yeah, baby!

Holy!

Okay, that was a tough challenge,

right out of the gate.

But you know what?

That's why I love this, baby.

This, uh, this next little phase.

This is my game here.

In the women's challenge, Trish, Kate and Lindsey

have advanced to Phase Two,

only Dani remains in Phase One.

I'm getting so close.

And that rope's not going anywhere.

At the front of the pack,

Ky and Lacey are the first women

to complete their primitive hooks.

Woo!

Okay, one throw.

At least, all right. Now...

Not far enough, not hard enough.

Nope.

I'm down to the last couple strands.

Here we go. It's off.

My knife finally falls.

I notice everybody else is gone.

I'm really nervous

about having to catch up to everybody

for the next leg of the challenge.

Here I am at the second part of the challenge.

I see the scrolls automatically.

I know that the rope underneath the water

is at that angle, by the wind,

and the way it's floating.

I spend a lot of time on water,

so I'm picking a rock because it will sink

and it will wrap around the anchor line.

That's my whole strategy.

So I find a rock with a hip in it,

so I know that it won't slip off,

I tie it to it real quick.

It's just gonna take a throw of that stone over that rope.

As Darrin, Gary and Patrick begin

putting their primitive hooks to the test,

only Bulent remains in Phase One of the challenge

working to cut his rope.

I just looked up and I was the only one left,

so I don't let it affect me.

I continue to do what I'm doing.

I need to cut that rope, concentrate on that rope,

and that's all I can do.

Oh. Yep.

And... off we go.

I'm last on this one.

The next challenge will be different.

I just have to be faster than one person.

All competitors have now acquired their blades

as Bulent advances to Phase Two of the challenge.

A bunch of scenarios going through your head.

What can be used? What can be beneficial?

What will save me time?

Since I'm the last one there.

I'm gonna make a loop,

and tie it around this guy.

I'm making a... It's similar to a life ring,

you can think of it as like a triangle life ring.

This is all about thinking out of the box

and being the most creative and that's typically

one of my greatest skills out here.

So right now I'm spending some extra added time

to make a proper tool.

Nice and easy, Russell.

Nice and easy.

Oh.

All right, I got it.

Ah!

"Go to the kudu horns to complete this challenge

and collect your camp assignment."

All right.

What? He already got it?

So I see these guys making dream catchers and stuff.

I'm out here pulling maps in and out of the water

like, quicker than.

Once a survivalist retrieves their map,

they must use it to navigate

to the finish line at the Animal Skull.

Here they will collect a scroll

containing their camp assignments.

Last man and woman to the Skull

will be eliminated from the challenge.

Yes, I hooked it.

Yes.

Got mine.

It feels awesome right now.

Oh, my God.

All right. "Go to the sable horns

to complete this challenge

and collect your camp assignment."

I think I should have gone with a smaller stick.

Come on, little log.

Work with me here.

I hear that Trish has got her scroll.

But the important thing is to zone it out.

It has nothing to do with me. You don't have to be first.

I just don't want to be last.

Come on, baby.

Come on!

Come on.

Ky got hers over.

Yes!

Yes!

Oh, Ky.

Thank goodness. All right.

All right.

Uh, no!

-Oh, my God. -Oh, my God!

Well, I did it.

Number one.

I finished the challenge first.

Hell, yes.

How did I just win the first challenge?

I just didn't want to get eliminated. First?

What?

That's incredible.

-All right. -Come on, Ky.

-Yeah, baby! -Oh, good.

All right.

Hell, yeah.

In order to throw it far enough

out in the water, we might need a weight.

You know, for those of you that have been fishing before,

you know, if you, if you don't have a weight on your line,

you can only cast 6 or 8 ft. out...

...and that's what this rock is doing for me right now.

Nope.

You know, this is a challenge for me.

Throwing a cast net's far easier

than throwing this line.

You piece of.

Because you've got that wet line that's behind it,

now you're trying to pick that up with one hand,

now you're throwing a wet stick on top of it.

-This sounds no joke. -Holy.

Yes. I'm trying to get my scroll,

but... rocks.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

I look around and I see a couple other people

that finished ahead of me, and it's nerve racking.

I'm so anxious, every second matters.

You don't want to go home on day one.

That's good.

Then we make a loop,

I got a strategy, find the tool I needed.

And... off we go.

They hooked mine... and God, man,

it feels so good to have my spot secured.

Some of the people hadn't even gotten to the water.

It feels so good.

Yes!

Whoo! This is what I live for!

Sorry, Jeff.

A couple of people

are already reeling in their scrolls right now.

They've already hooked theirs.

This is absolute worst case scenario right now.

It's terrifying, man!

It's terrifying!

I could go home.

Anybody can go home on this challenge.

What the hell's going on?

-Yeah. -The definition of insanity

is doing the same thing over without success.

Dani, Lacey, Kate and Lindsey

are the last female competitors

remaining in this elimination challenge.

Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on.

Come on. Come on. Let's go. Let's go. Go, go, go.

-Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go! -Go, go, go!

Go!

Okay.

I got it.

Kate has hers.

Oh, it's one less.

Come on, yes.

Come on.

Please, please. Please.

Oh, my God.

Yeah. Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

- Oh, my God. Definitely a bad stick. -Here we go.

Come on.

I peek over the edge and I see a bunch of people

still at the water's edge,

and at this moment, I know I've got it.

I know I have the tool, that I need to do the job.

And I'm looking around, and I know

a couple of the other people do not.

Come on.

Yes, yes, yes, yes!

Yes. Yes! Good job.

Come on.

It's close, it's close.

Aah!

As Fernando heads to the finish line,

Dan retrieves his scroll.

Oh.

I've only been down here 60 seconds,

and I've already hooked my scroll.

Yes!

Whoo!

Yeah, baby!

This is what I live for!

Yes!

I got it before you, buddy.

Yes.

Jeff is hooting and hollering and screaming.

I can't control myself!

Whoo!

So there's no way today I'm gonna let him beat me.

Whoo!

Bud, that's...- Is that...

I might be enjoying this moment a little bit.

Oh.

With only one scroll remaining,

the men's challenge is down to Russell and Bulent.

-I want to win. -When it comes down to it,

I'm not gonna let somebody else take my money home.

There's only Russell and me.-

Whoever does it faster is gonna stay

and the other guy going home.

But the only way you're gonna survive...

is when you don't quit.

Got it.

Go on, inside.

Here, come home.

Uh-oh.

Oh, I might be here.

Oh, you bastard!

I'm the last one here.

I thought I had a good lead, but apparently not.

One more time.

Oh. There goes my rope.

Goddamn it!

-I'm beat. -My feet are beat.

-It's been a long day. -It's been a really hot day,

but I'm happy almost.

Dani and Lacey are the last two women

competing for one remaining scroll.

It's exhausting.

I feel like my arms aren't strong enough

to throw this far.

I'm trying to conserve energy

and do more of an underhand throw,

whereas she's using a lot of energy

and throwing the log over her head.

Oh!

Hey, bud, this wasn't the right placement.

Oh, so close.

At least I got it a little bit closer.

-Oh, my God. -The rope is heavy as hell.

You got it! Oh!

-Oh. -Oh, my God.

Oh, gosh.

Oh.

It's not the right strategy.

My entire body is just done.

Oh.

Come on, Lacey.

"Go to the stable horns to complete this challenge

and collect your camp assignment."

-No! -Oh, my God.

It's not good enough.

Come on.

Come on.

-Oh, my God. -Oh, my God.

-Oh, my God. -Oh, my God.

-Oh, my God. -Oh, my God.

Come on.

"Go to the stable horns to complete your challenge

and collect your camp assignment."

She's not there yet.

With only one scroll remaining,

Dani and Lacey are both in danger of being eliminated.

The last one.

That was a tough challenge.

Oh.

No!

I literally gave it all, everything.

I was really looking forward to, uh...

showing off my skills.

I'm not gonna be the Last One Standing.

Instead, I'm the first one to go.

I did not see this coming.

Ah, Lord. Lordy, Lordy, Lordy.

Yep.

Just walk on back.

Oh, dammit.

I put everything I had into it.

I saw a stick that I thought was going to work well,

you know, everybody else saw different stuff,

and you know, they took their time getting their...

uh, their materials set

and you know, I kind of rushed mine.

I guess I let my, my heart get ahead of my head

and, you know, we saw the outcome.

God, this sucks.

I had such a good lead.

I was just focused on fast, fast, fast.

I had to pick, I could have picked anything

and I picked that one stick.

A crucial mistake. Wrong tool for the job.

Oh, my God, that cost me $100,000

and the chance to be the Last One Standing.

Day one elimination.

Yeah, it's just embarrassing.

It is just embarrassing.

You know, you can't sit there and, and blame the wind.

You can't blame the water, you can't blame the guys.

You can't blame the material you're using.

Ultimately, all my choices culminated into this.

So here I am.

Everybody has a plan

until they get punched in the face,

and Africa just gave me a left hook and right.

Goodbye again, Africa.

That's like a whole different kind of blow for me.

As the last man and last woman

to collect a scroll at the finish line,

Russell and Lacey are eliminated from the challenge.

My biggest concern now is who I'm spending

the next, however many days with.

Having good partners is almost as important

as the knowledge and skills they bring out.

The remaining 12 survivalists

have been assigned to four separate groups

determined by the order of finish

in the first challenge.

Camps are divided, so no group is given an advantage.

I'm looking for my camp.

It's getting late.

I gotta get my boma built before dark,

so, you know, that's going to be a big thing.

So we're safe this first night.

The survivalists begin

the competition in Zone One, a thorn covered valley,

where crocodiles lurk beneath the surface

of its scattered watering holes.

Hungry lions stalk the tall grass, -

and fiercely territorial baboons,

share the night with Africa's silent assassin, -

the leopard.

Right now, as far as strategy goes,

it's getting some shelter

because you don't go without shelter

in this part of Africa.

It's pure survival at the moment.

So I'm not as interested in the game right now

as I am in living, to tell you the truth.

This is my first time in Africa and oh, my God,

there's a lot of thorns everywhere.

Hello.

-What's up. -Hi.

-Congratulations. -Same to you.

- You didn't get eliminated. Good job. -I know.

Hey, hey!

Oh, Dan! The man! - This is a survival competition,

and in order to make it to the end,

you have to survive.

The best way to do that is cooperating

and working with other people as a community.

So my plan is to share, cooperate,

get along with others, and these two seem like

great people to get along with.

I can definitely start cutting down some acacia

and getting some boma action going.

-Yeah. -This is a hell of a day one.

Fire!

Whoo!

Baby, hot!

-Is that a Gary? -Yes, dear.

Do I hear a Gary?

Lindsey?

Heck, yeah.

What's up, girl?

Get your butt in here.

-I'm stocked. -Heck, yeah.

Hey, brother.

Me and Lindsey have done this.

This is your home?

This is our boma.

-Hi. -Hi.

Oh, my gosh, I'm so happy to see you.

Hugs! Hi.

-Hi. How are you? -Good.

What? Oh, look at that.

-What? Dani? -Hello.

-Hey. -Hey.

Hi.

I recognize that face.

I'm Dani.

-Dani. What's up? -I know you guys.

I'm very happy to see Gary and Lindsey

as my camp mates. Both of them

have a lot of experience in Africa,

whereas I have never been anywhere like this in my life.

So check it out.

We're building a boma.

For me as a vegetarian,

my biggest obstacle is being able to find food,

and just looking around,

this is not a place that is going to benefit me.

As you can see the sun's going down,

and we have a very large area

-to continue to fill in. ...Yeah.

-So let's get chopping and, yeah... ...Yeah.

..finish the boma.

-Get busy. -Sweet.

I hear someone chopping.

Oh, my goodness.

-Hello. -I got a boma mate.

Yeah!

-I'm Ky. -Darrin.

-Nice to meet you. -Great to meet you.

-Yeah! -Oh, my God.

-So I've just been getting some thorns organized. -Nice. Awesome.

We can just start, like, filling in the gaps a bit.

-Nice. Yeah. -Cool.

Hello, Darrin.

Hey!

-We've got another person. -Who is it?

Oh... -There's more than you? -Ky's here with us.

-Yay! -Hey, Bulent.

Your reputation precedes you.

I'll take that as a compliment.

I don't know. I feel like

I've got the two grumpy old men from the Muppets,

-in the... -in the most wonderful way.

But, I feel like

they're both very talented survivalists.

It's getting to lion o'clock.

-I'll go get the wood for the fire. ...For the fire?

Okay. Great.

I haven't been to Africa in four years.

I forgot how much everything wants to eat you.

Hey, naked person.

Oh.

What's up? I'm Patrick.

-I saw you briefly at... -Patrick.

...the big tree.

-Oh, sweet. I'm Kate. -Nice to meet you.

All right, bring it in.

-How's it going? -Pretty good.

Kate has tapped out voluntarily

on both of her challenges.

That could prove difficult.

Um, it's going to be important to keep her in the game,

especially while we are a team.

We're going to be depending on each other.

Is there anyone you wouldn't want as a partner?

I said I couldn't handle Jeff on day one.

I already heard him screaming today,

I was like, "Oh, my God," like, I'm just not prepared

for Jeff right off the bat. But that's okay.

You know, as far as partners go,

it would be like making a deal with the devil

because you don't know if he might betray you.

Yeah.

Whoo!

Yeah, baby!

-Holy! -Speak of the devil, and he appears.

What's up?!

Seriously?

Yeah, baby!

Holy Speak of the devil, and he appears.

What's up?

Seriously? -

- Is this... Is this my new family? -Yeah.

It's Patrick and Kate.

Now, Patrick. He's never done an XL before,

and Kate has never finished a challenge before.

We're handicapped from the get go.

So, I know I'm at a disadvantage.

-Well, welcome. -Yeah.

Thanks, guys.

As far as my strategy goes with this,

I'm actually planning on trying to work with Jeff.

Having Jeff on my team is gonna be super helpful.

I know he was a tough competitor

and not necessarily the most trustworthy.

I may sell my soul a little bit,

but as long as I make it to day 45, be worth it.

-Hey, don't be... -What's that?

Don't be sabotaging us.

Come on.

I know Jeff has some tricks up his sleeves,

and I don't want to have to look behind my back all the time,

but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to.

Like, I'm gonna sleep with one eye open

in that boma, not just for the lions.

We were waiting for everyone to get here,

to figure out where we want to do boma stuff.

-But we figured fire... ...Maybe, like, in this area or something,

-Okay. -I don't know.

- I mean, this is a pretty good area for a boma, -Yeah.

Especially using the two trees or something.

The hyenas, fire won't scare those guys away.

We need some type of protection, other than the fire.

Nice!

I haven't discovered a water source yet.

I'd rather be safe for the night

and find water in the morning.

Security comes first.

So everybody's hauling ass,

everybody's doing their best.

It's a good team work,

even though I don't really do teams.

What side do you want me to drag it to?

Put it right there, 'cause that's a beast.

-And it'll put that wall there. ...Okay.

This is Dani's first time in Africa.

Gary's been here several times.

I've been here twice.

I am really worried about Dani.

You know, she's not as strong as a lot of us out here.

I'm looking at Dani and I don't know if she's gonna make it.

You know, she's a tiny thing.

She's like 90 pounds and she's a vegetarian,

and I don't know much about Dani's skills.

Yeah. Here we go. You see that.

Nice. Nice.-

Teamwork. Yeah.

Teamwork makes the dream work.

I've never built a boma before,

but I get the concept.

Oh!

I've never been to Africa before

and going into night one,

I... I don't really know what to expect.

Are there going to be lions, hyenas?

Um... Who's gonna come visit us tonight?

It's terrifying.

There's a beautiful full African moon

over the savannah tonight, we have fire sorted.

We made a kickass boma.

There is not a spot for a hyena to sneak in,

let alone a lion, and we're listening

to the sound of baboons screaming at each other.

And hopefully we'll get plenty of sleep tonight.

That's a good, solid boma.

Yeah.

First night in Africa,

and we've got some winds whipping up tonight.-

We know we're gonna get weather.

So...-

Wild dogs, I think.

Could be.

Could be, yeah.

Oh, wow.

That is totally baboons.

Yeah, baboons, you're right.

That's some action out there.

-Maybe a leopard got some baboons. ...Oh, my God.

So it is my first night in here in Africa,

and the wind is whipping through the trees above me.

It went from being a calm night,

to, it is just shaking this whole entire tree.

I'm worried the storm is gonna be blowing in here,

and we're gonna be hit with some rain.

It got chilly last night.

If it gets colder than that plus rain,

that's gonna suck.

It really doesn't take much energy to grab these,

and I think the tradeoff

would be a more comfortable sleep.

Better sleep will help out in challenges.

It's bedding, plus blanket plus roof.

Plus wind block.

Oh, yeah.

There you go. Nice.

That's brilliant.

We survived night one.

-Yeah. -Yes, we did.

So there's a map at the Wildebeest Skull

-on day two. -Right.

-Let's go check it out. -Yeah.

All teams have been instructed

to return to their Camp Skull to collect a new map.

This map contains instructions for today's challenge.

All right, let's see this thing.

Yeah.

There's a Wildebeest Skull.

It looks like there's an image of what tools would be there.

Throughout the challenge, the survivalists will be led

by a series of topographical maps

overlaid with environmental landmarks.

Each map reveals the locations

of a limited supply of advanced survival items

cached in the surrounding area,

such as bows, pelts and fishing tools.

That will give survivalists with the skills

to find them an advantage throughout the competition.

All these icons present different things.

But my plan is to work with other people,

cooperate with other people, share with other people

and help each other move forward

outside of the competitions.

In this zone, Zone One, there are five caches,

two hunting tools, one survival tool,

and two fishing tools.

"So we have the bow and arrow, ascend the baobab tree

to earn a hunting tool."

Oh, there's two of those.

So the bows would be in a baobab tree.

"Explore the pond to retrieve fishing tools."

In a survival scenario, working together,

pulling resources.

It's the way forward, it's the way that people survive

is by working together.

This fishing is way, way out that direction.

"Search the acacia tree to earn a survival tool."

-Probably a knife. ...No, that could be a penalty.

-Okay, so... -Oh.

-See this here? -Oh, my gosh.

"For all cached items in this competition,

there is no sharing."-

Yes!

Wow! Okay.

"There's no sharing."

Wow.

Oh, God!

Very different all of a sudden.

Wow!

"No sharing", I'm like...

This changes things.

It could kneecap literally everyone.

It's going to be a new Last One Standing, that's for sure.

"There is no sharing"! - Yes!

"There's no sharing."

Wow.

Okay.

Yeah!

This map was made for me.

Finding these items is actually more important

than you would think.

It could mean the difference between staying

and going home.

I mean, sharing benefited everyone,

but now it's a... it's a new game.

For the duration of the challenge,

all earned caches may not be shared

with other camps, but can only be traded.

Any unattended items may be taken

by individuals from another camp.

I mean, we will share because we're in the same group.

Yeah, it also says whatever we find is just for our camp.

Our camp is... -We're down. Yep. -We're down here.

Of all this whole, from what you see here,

what strikes you as, like, our best move?

We have the hunting tools here,

it'll probably be the bows and arrows

you know, about 800 ft. From our camp.

This is going to be your best bet,

is going here to this baobab tree

and ascend it, and I think I'll be able to do that.

The other teams are gonna be off

and running for these.

Oh, heck, yeah, and it's Jeff.

He's gonna be looking for all of them.

-The pressure's on now. -Yeah.

The closest tool to us is a hunting tool.

-In a baobab tree. -Yeah.

Okay. Let's divide and conquer.

So, you and I are going for this fishing hook,

and you're going to go this way for the boat

across the middle of those two lanes.

-Between the two water sources. ...Yeah.

Hunting tool here,

hunting tool here, survival tool here.

You guys want to go for that hunting tool,

and I'm gonna go for the survival tool.

-I'm down. -Okay.

-Okay. -Yeah. All right.

-Well, let's get going, hey. -Later.

-All right, got my rope. -Let's map out.

I'm gonna grab this rope, too.

Got our machetes?

-Machete, check. Rope. -I have a machete.

We gotta get cracking.

-Okay, let's hightail it. Let's do it. -All right.

It's important that me and the girls

book it and hustle our butts off today

because anything we get out here is currency.

-That's a baobab tree. ...Yep.

This region of South Africa

is home to over 2,500 baobab trees.

These trees can grow to heights over 80 ft. tall

and are protected with fire resistant,

spongy, smooth bark making baobabs difficult to climb.

On two of these trees, there are hunting tools

tethered high above the rocky terrain.

-Dan? -Yeah.

Baobab right there. Could that be it?

Yeah.

There's somebody else.

-I think that's our tree, guys. ...I do, too.

And they're that way. Let's go.

Hey, hurry up!

They're coming behind you.

Yeah, baby!

Whoo!

I see something in the tree.

Now it's a race to get it down before anybody else.

Go, Dan!

Zoom, zoom, zoom.

I hear Darrin and he is just trucking for that tree

'cause I know he wants those bow and arrows.

Dan, Fernando and Trish

are competing against Darrin for a hunting asset

in a baobab tree on the east end of Zone One.

Gary, Dani and Lindsey are racing Jeff and Kate

to reach the other baobab tree on the west end.

Gosh!

Oh, crap. Look who it is.

Hey, guys.

-Hey. -Yeah.

Meet up with Dan at the baobab tree,

beat Darrin there,

we see the bow and arrows up in the tree,

and so we just quickly just start brainstorming.

Think it simple.

To reach the hunting tools on the two baobab trees,

the survivalists must construct a ladder.

For this challenge, they must use

their bushcraft and knot tying skills,

utilizing a minimum of two weight bearing rungs

to reach the item.

-Oh, man. Look. -There it is.

-We got to build a ladder to get up there. ...All right.

I get to the baobab tree first,

so now we're in a mad dash

to actually construct a ladder to climb up there.

Can we use this as a ladder, guys?

What if we try this y-shaped tree?

Yes. And then we could build rungs between the Ys.

We can just tie a rope step here and here. Right?

You mean, the ropes could be our rungs?

-Yeah. -Yeah.

Dani found a tree that had a y at the top of it.

We all brought rope with us.

I know that we can use that rope

to make rungs in between the Y shape of that tree

to give us the height to reach that cache.

Dani may be small,

but she's a fierce competitor and she had an ingenious idea.

All right.

Okay, so we're going to have to build a ladder.

What do you think of the idea of tie a rope under here,

throw this up and over that,

put two ladder rungs on it,

and then I'll just climb the rest of it?

The plan is to throw this rope up over the tree knot,

and then it's gonna come all the way back down to us.

Once it's doubled,

all we have to do is put two rungs on it,

and it will support the weight.

I wonder if we have enough, Kate, I don't know.

That's not... That's not going to be enough, Kate.

We're gonna need yours, too.

-Oh, we are? Okay. -Yeah.

I don't have my rope.

I brought my rope.

For whatever reason, Kate didn't bring hers.

We're one rope short right now.

I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go get the other one.

We're definitely losing time right now.

I'm worried Gary and his group

are going to get a chance to go at it.

Kate's just showing little, little rookie mistakes,

and people keep telling me that she's really good

at all these skills, but I've never seen it.

Hurry up, Jeff.

Kate could have just really, really screwed us.

Right now, I'm heading back down to get Kate's rope.

She didn't bring it.

As Jeff heads back to camp

to collect Kate's rope, on the east side of the zone,

Dan, Fernando and Trish

scramble to retrieve the other hunting asset before Darrin.

I'm trying to cut some rungs.

We're going to, uh, put some loops,

put some, uh, sticks through them and make that a ladder.

We don't need two ropes.

-One rope, tied, with a stick. -Yeah.

So we are making single strand of rope

and put the, uh, rungs in the middle.

A little more precarious, a little less stable, but, uh, way, way faster.

So as a firefighter, I do no knots

and so I start putting in-line knots in this rope, butterfly knots

just to be able to secure some rungs in this rope.

These guys' whole camp is here.

They didn't split up, like we did.

And a lot of the people out here, I don't think have

nearly the experience with survival bushcraft that I have.

Hopefully, I finish my ladder first or, uh, theirs fails.

On the far south end of the zone,

Ky and Bulent are searching for a pond stocked with fishing assets.

This red sand, that's where the water flows.

If we just follow this, Ky,

I think we'll get to the pool of water somewhere.

Oh, here a pond.

In this pond, there are two fishing tools tucked away in catfish holes.

Catfish dig holes on water banks to protect their offspring.

There's so many in here.

Look at all of... They're just taunting us.

To harvest catfish,

primitive anglers probe the holes barehanded to capture the fish.

I guess it's just a matter of getting in and going for it.

Bulent!

I know catfish dig pretty big holes

by the water's edge near the bank.

So, I'm just gonna zigzag back and forth until I find one.

One, two, three.

Oh, nice.

Get it, pull it.

Yes. Yes, yes, yes.

Quick, quick, quick.

We tie it around a tree branch on the bottom.

I have Fernando and Trish hold it, so it won't pull through.

-Go. -We got it. Just go.

Give me lots of slack.

Now you got it, Dan.

Climbing, it's an important skill to learn for this environment.

Like, you have to put in work and have the bushcraft skills to be able to get this down.

-He's getting there. -Yeah.

Oh, come on, Dan. You're so close.

-You got it, buddy. -I got it.

Fernando and I are just holding on at the bottom

as hard as we can to keep that rope tight.

Look at those skills.

...Watch your head. -Heads up.

Oop!

All right. Yup.

Yeah, buddy, I got you. Come down.

Nice work, Dan.-

It's exciting, not only 'cause we get this item,

but it was the first test of our abilities as a team and our communication.

And the three of us, together, most importantly,

I think communicate really, really well.

So, I'm really happy with this group, actually.

-Great job. -Hell yeah, buddy!

-Good job, good job! -Great job.

-You know what? -I think I might go look for this second bow.

I just saw them do something that worked really quickly.

Uh, it looks like they just tied sticks to their rope and pulled it up.

I might just be able to mimic that idea.

All right, let's get the next one.

Hurry up. We got another place to get to.

We got this task done so quickly,

that we're like, "Let's go for another one."

-Uh, do we have the direction? -Yeah.

It sucks having to go all the way back to the shelter.

Hurry up, Jeff.

Hey, peoples!

Oh, no.

Gary's group has not finished their ladder apparatus

so I'm feeling confident we're gonna get a chance to go at it.

This is gonna take patience.

We took our time and came up with a good plan and then went into action.

-So, Dani. -Yup?

-You know your knots. Yeah. -Yes.

What I'm gonna do is put a butterfly loop here.

Working as a wilderness EMT and search and rescue, knot making is essential.

We have to be able to drag people out of really difficult places.

What do you think about doing the rope rungs, right?

Or we could just try this since I'm already doing it.

Okay.

Kate and I's strategy is to get our ladder completed first.

I want the first attempt!

Even if that means I'm gonna cut some corners in doing so.

Jeff and Kate, they definitely don't know their knots.

It looks really sketchy and I know it's not gonna work.

If this thing can get caught,

I think we might have a chance.

It's locked in place. This will work.

Let's throw it over the same way.

The rope is caught on the knot and it is stable.

Okay, you wanna hold the rung for me?

I'd love to see Jeff's rungs hold his weight.

I'm gonna put both feet on it. Okay?

-Okay? -Got you.

I think I still got a shot at this one.

There's no way in hell this rope stick thing is gonna work.

-That's not a ladder. -That's a rope stick thing.

And Jeff's over there just scraping himself up.

Give it up, Jeff!

It'll never happen.

Get down!

-You don't know who you're messing with. ...Get down now!

You can kiss this ass, Gary.

Jeff, you're gonna have to get down, bud.

We're gonna fix that.

The rungs on the ladder just aren't strong enough to support my weight.

So, we're gonna have to make some adjustments.

Yes.

Jeff left his rope unattended.

Last One Standing is a competition where you are allowed to sabotage

I wasn't expecting a little angel looking Dani to, like, pull that off.

Dani stole a rope?

Whoa!

I'm just playing by the rules.

Holy Dani!

Whoa!

The little angel became a little devil real quick.

I thought you were a vegan? Aren't you guys nice?

-Let's give it a shot. -Okay. Yup.

All right.

Yup.

On the previous Last One Standing,

forty two days in the wild,

I didn't steal a single thing

and Dani's stealing on day two?

I can't believe that.

Revenge is in my heart right now.

Anybody that wants to sabotage me,

I will do everything I can to make sure they go home.

-Okay. -Ouch.

We need to get it up close enough

to the base of the tree where it is secure.

-No, we're gonna put it on this rock. ...Yup.

But it's stable enough to support it's weight

and it's high enough so that Gary is able to reach the cache.

-You got it, Lindsey? -Yep.

-You got it, Dani? -I might step on you a little bit, okay?

-It's okay. -Yeah.

Lindsey and I are holding on with all of our energy

and all of our strength to keep this stable.

Look at that.

-Lindsey arm rung. -Right. Nice.

Now I'm gonna use the rungs to support myself.

Dani was really good at her knots.

So, Gary climbs up the tree, it's holding his weight.

Okay, hold the tree, please.

Dani, hand me that knife.

I'm worried about balancing,

'cause it could take a little twist

or a little slide on the rock down below.

Support me good.

-Yup. -Yup, we got you.

My life's in your hands.

I'll write your obituary, buddy.

-Putting my entire body weight to catch this... Yeah.

You've got it. You've got it.

-Oh! -All right.

-Keep holding the corner. -I got it.

Did I just drop it on your shoulder, girl?

- I got it. I'm good. Just come down. - Come down.

Hey, no! That's ours!

Jeff! I got a knife in my hands.

Keep going.

-Yup. -Yup, we got you.

You've got it. You've got it.

- All right. Keep holding the... -I got it.

-I'm good. Just come down. -Come down.

We're gonna do this slow.

- All right. Yup - Yup.

Hey, no! That's ours!

- Jeff, steal that - It's on me!

Jeff! I got a knife in my hands.

-off, dude. -off.

I'm just making sure Gary can get down okay

and wouldn't you know, Jeff comes around and tries to take it from me.

-It's so shady, man. -It's not cool here.

Here. you can step on my arm, Gary.

A bow would be an advantage right now.

This is a big game capital of the world

and without a bow, we're at a disadvantage.

Yeah, good joy, guys.

Yeah! Girls.- -Nice one. -Group hug. Come on.

Oh, my gosh.

Me, Lindsey and Dani pulled together as a team and pulled it off.

We worked very well together.

I am so stoked with these two.

Two bows right now.

-Two of us could go hunting. -Yeah.

I wish I was you right now.

I know there's other caches out here

and, yes, I'm behind now.

I just spent an hour trying to build a ladder

and get these bows out of the tree.

I'm an hour behind everyone else,

but I'm not gonna give up.

So not only did we get two bows, we also got another rope.

Well played.- I'm definitely impressed with Dani.

She came up with the ladder to use.

Dani knew all these cool knots and stuff

and I was like, "Whoa, you go, sailor."

But then she really diced it up and spiced it up

when she went over and stole that rope.

-Now, she's like... -Dani's proving she's in the game.

This is a nightmare to walk in this.

This cold weather sucks.

This wind is whipping, it's swirling

and it is freezing cold out here.

I say we head back up.

Yeah, we have to fortify.

-How about me going for the pond? -What do you think?

Should I just go for it and see what I see?

-You could. -It's gonna be cold.

-What's the verbiage? -"Explore the pond."

"To retrieve fishing tools."

- Could be more than one. - All right. I'm gonna go for it.

You know where you're going? You got a map in your head?

Yeah, just look, it gets really green.

-The hillside goes there. -There's a pot.

Yeah, let's give it hell. Well, we'll see how it goes.

The fishing asset to me is the number one thing we need.

The bow, that's a big kill, big catch, you're set.

But the odds of that are so much lower.

Another hungry night.

It's much easier and survival savvy

to fish all day in this than try to hunt.

Some serious thriving happening here.

We're seeing a lot of swirls, a lot of mud swirls, a lot of catfish sign,

but I'm thinking we should have found something by now.

Okay.

These wind gusts are absolutely brutal.

This environment is unpredictable for food.

Fishing line and hooks would help me come up

with some food somehow out here.

-Huh? -I got it.

Yeah, but there's more than one.

-Do we need more than one? -How much is in there?

It's fishing line and hooks.

Do we need more than one?

No.

Three out of five caches have been found.

Leaving only two items remaining.

One fishing asset in the catfish pond

and one survival item in the acacia tree thicket.

Hey!

Any luck with the bow?

We didn't get it.

You?

I didn't get the survival asset.

No one's found it, I don't think.

Okay.

-Um... -And, uh, like,

I walked around all over the place,

-I didn't see anything. -Okay.

All right. Well, we'll... I think I'll head straight there then.

Yeah.

Oh, and bad time to tell you, a rope was stolen.

We took the ropes up because we were building a ladder with 'em,

and while we were building the ladder,

Dani just stole it.

Dani's already started stealing?

This doesn't sit right with me.

I'm not afraid to take someone out

that identifies himself as a threat.

If you try to sabotage me or betray me,

you're going down.

Wait.

Wait a second. Wait a second.

-I see water. -Oh, God. Thank you.

I found the pond.

There's a good chance that whatever is here is already gone.

But at the same time, I've come this far already.

So I'm kind of gridding this pond from left to right.

With one set of fishing assets found by Ky,

one more remains in the pond.

You can get through a whole entire challenge with fishing hooks.

Much higher rate of success.

So to me, this is like the most viable thing on that map today.

Oh, God. Thank you.

Catfish hole.

Okay, there's that one there.

But now the question is, "Is there anything left?"

I'm gonna give it all I got until the sun goes down.

-Accuracy with these things is perhaps absolutely key... On point.

That was a big hit, not getting those bows.

But I'm feeling good. I now have a map in my hands.

So, we're talking 225 paces.

And this is where I'm comfortable, baby.

I am the best survival navigator out here, amongst everybody.

And I know this.

This area contains thousands of razor sharp, thorny acacia trees.

On top of one acacia tree, is a survival item.

Competitors must first use their navigation skills to locate the tree.

Then retrieve the item from the acacia's barbs and spikes.

-I heard you got fishing line. ...Yeah.

Anyone find the acacia tree one?

Not that I know of.

It's gotta be in here somewhere.

Day is cold, the wind is miserable.

And we've got big storm clouds on the horizon, too.

Like, we have nothing to protect us from this wind.

But I think a hide is the asset we need right now.

So, I think we should really spread out a little bit.

- So our eyes are on different things, - Yeah.

-but keep each other in sight. ...Yeah.

We have limited time.

Something's gotta be out here, yeah?

Acacia tree.

That's not it, is it?

I just found the hides.

It's taking everything I have to not scream right now.

But I'm playing a different game this time around.

Come on over, Kate.

What I know is the wind has been blowing 40 miles an hour all day long.

There's weather moving in and there's one camp here,

who's going to stay dry in that thunderstorm.

And it's mine.

If anybody comes up, we'll have to play dumb or something.

Oh. Ky! Ky!

Yeah. I know, I know.

-Bulent! -Oh,

The last man and the last woman to reach their skull

will be immediately eliminated.

For this competition,

the PSR or Primitive Survival Rating,

weighs an individual's survival skill and items collected.

To determine the likelihood of becoming,

the Last One Standing.

In the day one elimination challenge,

Gary showed ingenuity.

Using a heavy rock. Ah!

Daddy came to play.

Resulting in a first place finish.

Whoo!

And his ability to work well

with his camp mates to retrieve a bow...

- You've got I. You've got it. - Yeah!

...increases his PSR from 9.0 to 9.2.

Watch out.

Ky demonstrated stellar bushcrafting skills

during the elimination challenge.

Come on!

Yes!

And located the fishing asset.

Okay. I got it, Bulent.

As a result, her PSR rises from 9.4 to 9.5.

-Jeff struggled to forge a primitive blade... No.

What the hell's going on?

...a nd bushcraft a ladder to reach the bow.

The rungs on the ladder just aren't strong enough to support my weight.

Topped with a loss of his rope... Dani stole a rope?

I thought you were vegan? Aren't you guys nice?

...his PSR dips from 9.3 to 9.2.

Ky! Ky!

-Do you see it? -Yeah. I know, I know.

The one on the right side.

If anybody comes up,

we'll have to play dumb or something.

I was so demoralized after missing out

on those bows by a split second.

I don't want other people coming in

and seeing this thing up in the tree

and possibly fighting me for it.

No one's gonna steal a hide from me this time around.

And I know it's got to be somewhere in between there and there.

Nothing yet.

Okay. How should we do this?

-Can you see a... -A long pole, right?

This hide might as well be

in the mouth of a great white shark.

These acacia trees have three inch thorns that can pierce body organs.

This tree will tear you up to the point

that you will need medical attention at a hospital.

Do you see it?

Yeah, do that.

Yeah.

Yes.

Oh, yes.

I have an animal hide.

It is the number one most useful item

out here in Africa hands down.

-yes! -Yeah, baby!

-This is what I live for! -This is what we live for!

-Yeah! -Yeah!

Well, sounds like Jeff found the survival item.

Jeff's done his iconic call throughout the Savanna.

I'm loud, I'm obnoxious, okay. I got it.

I'm here to win, baby.

You know, they heard that.

And Kate, I know you've been cold.

I have no problem letting you use this.

-Wow. -You know, everyone thought Jeff is an

in Last One Standing one,

but dude's actually a nice guy.

You can stay warm tonight, okay?

Thanks, Jeff.

I'm being really freaking nice.

It's been a good day!

I'm a competitor.

However, I'm also a human being.

I want Kate to be okay,

but of course, I also want her to be eliminated at some point in the future.

And those two things,

you can feel them both at the same time, believe me.

Isn't this complicated?

I've been in this pond for a very long time.

I've probably made four or five laps,

been through the middle.

I'm losing hope.

And so, I'm trying to like,

reassess what I'm doing.

The sun is going down.

I am freezing cold, wet.

But I begin to prioritize the shores of this pond, the edges.

That's where catfish make their holes.

Oh,

I found a catfish hole.

Please! Please have something in it.

Please.

Please.

Please, please, please, please.

Yes. Yes.

Fishing line and a hook.

This is food. This is the game changer.

All five cached items have been found in this zone,

with Ky, Darrin and Bulent pulling in one set of fishing lines and hooks,

Gary, Dani and Lindsey, securing bows and arrows,

Jeff, Kate and Patrick recovering a wildebeest hide

and Dan, Trish and Fernando taking home the most assets,

bows, arrows and fishing lines and hooks.

Ugh. It's windy.

So obviously the weather's changing.

So right now, I'm getting started on

like a, uh, roof for the fire to protect it

-from the rain and from the deluge. ...Oh, perfect.

Yeah, it might be helpful so we don't lose the fire if things get too crazy.

If we can find a few more pieces,

I think it could be super helpful.

It is freezing cold here right now.

My skin is cold to touch, we're in gale force winds

and we're basically sitting on top of this fire.

There's no shelter materials.

Not readily available.

It's absolutely freezing for Africa and this is serious.

Bulent agrees.

A massive cold front has rapidly set in on the Munzwa Valley,

crashing into a high pressure system

trapped between the Drakensberg and Soutpansberg mountains.

The result is wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

And temperatures that can plummet as much as 60 degrees.

Do you see this? Look up.

Look at the wind just rocking our shelter.

We've made this insane

just fortress of dry reeds.

It's the best we could do.

So we're gonna kind of bury ourselves in this dry grass

and, uh, weather out this wind event.

It's just... It sucks.

Wow. Look at that wind!

Oh, my God!

I can't believe like, how dark the sky is.

This is very unusual weather for Africa this time of year.

Just because I have the hide doesn't mean I'm still not freezing.

I'm still freezing.

Tonight may be one of the most brutal nights

on Naked and Afraid that I've ever had.

It's absolutely freezing right now.

I don't know how some people

are gonna make it through this, like...

I don't wanna come on second Last One Standing

only to tap out hyperthermia.

The wind's just coming through and just sucking every ounce of heat from our body.

Oh,

Holy

Dude!

Whoa!

Oh, my God!

Torture.

I'm not like cold.
