Welcome to Gold Country.

[Zak] We are headed to Jamestown.

Jamestown was literally the gateway

to the gold rush in the 1850s.

[haunting music playing]

There are some really old buildings here,

particularly, the Jamestown Hotel.

[suspenseful music playing]

[Zak] This place saw a lot of suicide, a lot of death.

But the reason that we're going there

is there's a couple of ex-law enforcement guys

that stayed there, and one of them

-claims to have been possessed by a demonic entity. -Oh!

And some of this was captured on camera.

Wow. And that's coming from a cop.

We need to first, try to figure out

what's the source of this,

and investigate these claims.

We might be knocking on the devil's door here.

But my bigger question is,

what the hell is the devil doing

in this little, old town?

What must have happened to trigger that?

that we will never fully understand.

Right over here,

this is the Jamestown Hotel.

This is our target.

We have to really start peeling back

the layers of time

to take ourselves back to the gold rush.

It literally could be from one event

that sparked that match of fire

that attracted the demons from hell

to this town.

In the mid-1800s,

a 120-mile-long vein of gold

was discovered right here

in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

And gold fever brought people from all over the world.

A few got rich, but many found themselves

on the wrong side of the grave.

In the early 1900s, the Jamestown Hotel

was converted into the Mother Lode Hospital,

and death became a frequent visitor.

In 1924, Mrs. Alice Davis died

after a brutal car accident.

In 1928, Mickie Lee died

after drinking poison in her room,

In 1937, Mrs. Lou Asbill died

after shooting herself in the heart,

[Zak] In 1938,Tom Ratkovich died at the hospital

following a long illness.

And the list goes on,

requiring the basement to be used as a morgue.

In the 1950s, the building was turned back into a hotel.

While the bodies have been removed,

it appears their souls have clung on

to these blood-soaked walls and floors.

Or perhaps, something even darker, and much older,

has been unleashed here,

and it shows no sign of checking out

Recent reports describe unexplained shadowy figures,

poltergeist activity,

and this former deputy sheriff

who claims to have been possessed in the basement.

We need to get to the bottom of this

because right now,

anyone who sets foot inside

is in serious danger.

We were told the hotel is closing down

with no explanation as to why.

Could these dark forces be to blame?

We have a little bit of time

before our interviewees show up.

[Zak] While researching this area,

we also heard this little gold rush town

has seen an unusual spike in exorcisms.

Yes, I said that right.

Exorcisms.

And before we head into the hotel,

we walk around to see if anyone will talk

and almost immediately,

We may have already spotted evidence of this.

It seems as though the energy in this town

is highly aggressive.

We literally just saw someone

trying to run somebody over and fight.

Is there something in this town

that is affecting these people?

If there is, we're getting a good sense of it already.

[Zak] Just when I think this town can't get any stranger,

we run into someone who takes this investigation

to a whole other level of urgency.

of this outbreak of demonic possessions here?

Is the Jamestown Hotel at the center of it?

all the dimensions are coming together.

So they're finding doorways.

I see them a lot in the eyes of people.

-Really? -I think that they're passing from person to person

because they're trying to, you know, walk amongst us.

What are people being possessed from?

Um, demons. From the buildings.

[Zak] Have you heard anything attached to the Jamestown Hotel?

As a matter of fact, three weeks ago,

I just happened to go to a restaurant over there,

and I was telling my daughter,

I said, there's ghosts here, spirits.

Everybody has a different term. Demon.

-At Jamestown? -Hm-mm.

[Zak] We have just been told that we can now enter

inside of the Jamestown Hotel.

To kick things off,

we're going to meet with Renee,

who's the assistant manager.

As I step inside,

I can immediately feel a dirtiness in the air,

a charge of negativity.

Is there anything

that you can tell us about the hotel?

Um, the only thing I really know is that,

my grandpa was the last one born here

before they turned it into a hotel.

[slow suspenseful music playing]

Okay. All right. Thank you.

[Zak] Something feels very off about this interview,

and my instincts are quickly validated.

I was just informed

that the woman that I was speaking to,

apparently, did have an experience last night.

She saw something last night

and we just went back in there.

One of my crew members asked if she would tell me about it,

and she said, "I don't really want to talk about it."

And then she just literally just stormed out.

[Zak] What is Renee hiding?

What is she afraid of?

I need to go right to the person

who is the reason we are here.

This former deputy sheriff

who was forever changed

after stepping inside of this infernal hotel

over two years ago.

[terrifying music playing]

-You okay? -Yeah.

Were you feeling something already?

Is it just in this place?

It's this place.

[Zak] Have you ever felt fear like this before?

-[Mike] No. -Being a deputy sheriff

-for 18 years? -No.

Nothing like this place.

Can you talk to me about that night?

The first night I went down into the basement,

and there was nothing, really,

-because there was other people down there. -Okay.

The second night,

everybody was sitting in the dining area over here.

So I go, I'm gonna go down. Nobody's down there,

And it's dark.

[suspenseful music playing]

There's uh, like a space,

you can walk all the way into the back corner.

So I go, I'm gonna go back there

because it's the darkest place in the whole basement.

In my head, I was hearing,

"Don't go back there."

Don't go back there."

I continued on walking, and then,

all of a sudden, I just stopped dead in my tracks.

My heart started beating.

I started getting really dizzy and lightheaded.

And I go, I've got to get out of here.

I remember walking up the stairs.

The next thing I know,

I'm looking around the room

and everybody is like,

"Are you okay? Are you okay?"

My name is Paul Tashiro.

I retired as a sergeant

with the sheriff's office in Santa Cruz County.

As a kid growing up, I had always had an interaction with

the other side. The spirits.

But as I got older, then I realized that wasn't normal,

so I kind of shut it down.

Mike and I were in law enforcement together,

and we just started to get to know each other.

It all converged here at the hotel.

He decided to go down into the basement.

And he comes up

and I could tell immediately, possession took over.

He was staring off into the distance

and he was doing this with his hand.

All I know about this incident is what I saw in the video.

[Zak] In the video, there's a moment

where you look like you were fighting something.

Do you ever remember having

irregular thoughts of violence?

No. I'm a pretty normal dude most of the time.

So you just had lost space?

Yeah.

[grunts]

[Zak] If an entity was taking over you,

was there any residual effects

that you do remember?

That you do have thought of?

All I know is, is...

Whatever it was, it was evil.

Although it physically left his body,

whatever was in him still has a claw in him.

He's not the same Mike that I knew.

[Mike] When I left this place,

the first thing I did

was I got Saint Michael's tattooed on my arm.

Oh...

Because I needed protection

because nothing's ever scared me like this.

And I'm scared right now.

to the area where he said this all started.

We're gonna keep a very close eye on him.

If there's any level of uncomfort,

we're gonna get him out of the hotel immediately.

-[Billy] We're just getting some gear set up -[Zak] Okay.

-so we can take some reading. -Okay.

I am gonna wear a mask

just because it might be dusty down there.

Mike, are you ready?

This is the reefer I was telling you about.

-[Zak] Okay, It's kind of a storage room type area. -[Mike] Yeah.

And I started walking back here.

[Zak] Billy is using a tri-field meter

to see if any unexplained spikes

of electromagnetic energy are detected,

which could be a sign of a spirit manifestation.

And then I just I stopped dead in my tracks

and it felt like, "Don't go back there, don't go back there."

And...

I continued.

All right, uh, we have retreated from that area.

Mike is there by himself.

This is the highest readings I've seen down here yet, Zak. Look.

Steady four and bumping the base lines of two.

So four is pretty high.

[Zak] Although there are no cameras

covering Mike during the sudden, uncontrollable outburst,

you can clearly hear his fists punching the concrete

at full force as he screams

at whatever evil has its claws in him.

And the readings are back to two.

-[Zak] It's just bad, huh? -It is bad.

[Zak] I spend time with Mike, calming him down

and giving him some advice on how to cope with this attachment.

And afterwards, I learned he isn't the only one

who has had this type of experience.

Jackie, you want to talk about a moment that you said,

like something kind of overtook you?

-Yes. -What happened?

Um, I was sitting at one of the tables near the bar.

And I wasn't feeling very good.

It was almost like, hard to breathe.

I just felt like, a weight on my chest.

And then, the next thing I knew,

I was laying on my back on the ground,

and everybody was helping me up.

And they were like, "Are you okay? What was happening?"

And they were saying that,

I was just like, staring off into space.

And then they said, it sounded like I was

talking in a different language.

-And then-- -You were speaking in tongues?

-Yes. -What?

And then I passed out.

[Zak] Did you feel like you've lost time?

[Jackie] Yeah, I didn't--

I didn't remember any of that.

Did you go to doctors after that and clear any medical?

Yeah. And they said I was fine.

-Nothing is wrong. -Really?

Do you know Mike?

-You don't know him? Okay? -Mmm-mmm.

-Wow. Aaron. -[Aaron] Yeah?

That is two, almost carbon copy

experiences.

He had an experience here?

-[Zak] Yes, same exactly. -Wow.

That means it's the same spirit.

That means it's the same spirit doing it.

When you left, and went home that night,

-did you have any strange dreams that-- -I did.

I had lots of nightmares.

-Really? -And they were very vivid.

There was lots of weird, like demonic faces.

Like horns?

[Zak] In those dreams,

was there a location?

The only other thing I really remember about a location was, it...

It felt like I was falling down a hole.

And it was dark.

[Zak] I was told about something

when we booked this location.

There's a place nearby called the Moaning Caverns.

[Jackie] Mm-mm.

I was like, well, we're doing the hotel,

I don't know how that would connect.

So I think I could make that connection.

The day before, I was on a field trip there.

The Moaning Caverns.

The day before, I had an experience.

-What? -Yeah.

I've never made that connection before.

What the hell, man?

We have to go there.

[Zak] The Moaning Caverns are notoriously known

for a small hole in the ground

that drops hundreds of feet down a vertical shaft,

where hundreds of human beings

have fallen or even been sacrificed.

Could these caverns, also known as a portal to hell,

possibly tie into what's going on here in Jamestown?

So, the reason they called it Moaning Caverns

is because they would hear screams

like from the pit of hell coming out of a cave.

And that over the thousands and thousands of years,

so many people have fallen down that hole

and it's just like a two, 300-foot drop.

And they find all the dead bodies of them

-at the bottom of the pit. -There's no way.

[Zak] There was an article from a long time ago,

I think from the 1800s,

that said that the bones that were found down there

were a lot of Native American.

Some of them were actually executed there.

-Really? -Sacrificed there.

But at the bottom of the pit, some of those bones--

It's like, that article indicated

that they weren't human like, possibly alien.

-Alien? -[Zak] Yeah.

[Jay] If that hole was used for some kind of

ritualistic sacrifice, for thousands of years,

they're not doing it now.

So whatever could be down there

that they've been keeping at bay

by doing these sacrifices

-could be coming out. -Yeah.

-It needs souls. -[Jay] Exactly.

And if it can't get souls

through the depths of them falling,

it is attaching itself to whoever visits there,

and who is vulnerable.

Then, after they are attacked, when they sleep at night,

they will go through, in their dreams,

the sacrifice of them falling.

Bam!

That's creepy and very scary.

-Are we gonna go to the cave? -And you get down there?

-Like, you just jump off? -I don't know. I don't know.

But at least go to that cave

and put your body

near the entrance of that hole.

Okay. So, as I send the guys

to check out these Moaning Caverns,

to see if this could potentially be

a gateway to hell that's opening up this entire area.

I just got a tip that on the edge of town, there's a saloon.

[suspenseful music playing]

That saloon has seen five mysterious fires.

Back in 1985, there was a newspaper article

where the owners blamed the ghosts.

Within demonic infestations within demonic hauntings,

it's very common to link the association

of mysterious fires being manifested

just like the fires of hell.

So we're gonna go talk with somebody over there,

and see if this crisis

of malevolent energy

is not just confined

to the Jamestown Hotel, but the entire town.

[Donald Swanson] Originally, it wasn't as obvious of an opening.

It used to be a lot more overgrown

so people would be walking, trip,

and then they could fall into the cave.

And that would be it for them.

And how-- How far is it?

[Donald] It goes vertical for 28 feet before it hits the first small shelf.

And then you would bounce off that shelf

and fall an additional 140 to 160 feet,

depending on where you'd land.

-[Billy] Oh, my gosh. -Wow.

[Zak] There was an article.

Was that just a funky headline or is there truth to that?

Um, there is truth to it.

There has been five fires over the years.

[Zak] So the part about this that makes it mysterious

is that for all five fires, they were unable to determine the cause?

That's true. They could never figure out what happened.

-[Zak] Is there any other dark history about this place -[piano playing eerily]

that we should know about?

[Kym] We've had, um, two hangings in the same week.

-What? Where? -[Kym] Um, two people hung themselves.

-Upstairs. There used to be... -There's an upstairs?

[Kym] There was an upstairs, but it burned down in the last fire.

There was also, uh, a murder.

-A husband killed his wife in one of the rooms also. - [gunshot]

-Do people think that this place is cursed? -[takes deep breath]

Yes.

A bunch of Chinese workers were working in here

and, uh, a mine collapsed

underneath this building.

And they were never able to get them out.

-There's a mine that runs underneath this very building? -Yes. And...

-Wow, that can explain a lot. -[Kym] Yes.

[Zak] Kym now reveals a very disturbing phenomena

occurring in the bar and outside the windows.

[Kym] People see red eyes staring back at them.

-And that's happened multiple times? -Yes.

-What the heck is that all about? -I don't know.

How many deaths do you think have been down here?

[Donald] So in, uh, 1950, uh, and in 1952,

there's two separate excavations that were done.

They recovered approximately twenty human remains,

and the assumption was they only excavated

roughly ten percent of the bone pile.

So, there is a large number that could still be down there.

The oldest that was identified was a skull that was roughly 12,500 years old.

[Billy] Twelve thousand?

-Yes. -Twelve thousand, five hundred years old. Yes.

I can't wait to get down there.

[Zak] The Moaning Caverns stretch underground for 200 known miles.

Is it possible the miles of mines under Jamestown

connect to the caverns at some point?

And the explosion cave in that claimed the lives of those Chinese miners

under this saloon, awakened the dark forces

and reopened a portal at the Moaning Caverns?

that's where they fell.

Do you think that the mine where these Chinese miners

died underneath of here,

could possibly run underneath the Jamestown Hotel as well?

[smacks lips] It's very likely.

That might be a very important clue

-[Kym] Mmm-hmm. -[Zak] to what's happening here.

-Here's part of a collar bone right here. -[Billy] Oh, I can see that.

[Donald] But then, here's actually a femur that has split mid-shaft.

-[Aaron] Wow. -[Billy] I mean, literally,

this is a stack of dead bodies,

-over the course of thousands of years. -[Aaron] Thousands of years.

-[Billy] Yeah. -Tons of little chips of human bone just all in it.

And this pile does actually go all the way down.

[Billy] So the bodies would hit here

and then just fall down even further.

-So it's just a string of bodies. -[Donald] Yes. Exactly.

We have also found ceremonial burial items down here as well.

-[Aaron] Whoa. -[Billy] Wow.

So, those average between 12,000 and 15,000 years old.

So let me ask you this. How did they get down here?

[Zak] The presence of ceremonial items is a clue

that this pit was once used for ritual purposes.

People could have been tossed in as human sacrifices

to appease whatever dark entity or demon

was believed to inhabit this mysterious underworld.

What if there's something underground, deep underground?

It's some kind of subterranean interdimensional cavity.

What if that cave connects directly to that cavity

that links over here too from the mines?

What if that's a gateway to hell?

And that gateway to hell was punctured and disturbed

by the mining that's underneath this very town,

and that's what's happening here?

So there is another chamber that is lower that, um...

[Billy] Wait, what? That the cave goes down?

-[Donald] Yes. -Yeah. And we haven't found the bottom.

The moaning sound used to be heard from a quarter mile away.

[Billy] You know what one of the strongest conductors of energy is.

Is that a mere coincidence that this is where the Gold Rush started?

was discovered in an area where this is happening?

Is there an entity here that attaches itself to people that visit?

[Zak] Before the guys and I investigate the Jamestown Hotel,

Jeff and I decide to take a closer look at the infamous Willow Saloon.

We wanna do kind of an observational investigation.

We're just gonna use a full spectrum camera.

We just have a few night vision cameras set up and an EMF bell.

So, if there's a presence of electromagnetic energy,

it will interfere with that device

and cause an alarm, which is a bell.

So, the person that I saw had a beard

and, um, an old miner's hat.

[Zak] Because when we walked in there,

we got two messages. It said "Malicious, Hat."

-So, they are seeing the old miner's hat? -Yes.

Is that you telling us that it's a positive identification?

Can you interfere with the bell there

Is the man that's being seen here malicious?

This bell is specially made for spirits using electromagnetic energy.

As we review the recorder, we capture some startling audio evidence.

Why are those like footstep noises?

We've already placed it there.

We already had it up there, Jeff.

-But I didn't hear that walking. -Nobody was talking. Listen.

It's incredible to hear what sounds like

someone walking in high heels or wooden shoes.

And it was dead silent during this session.

There is no explanation for this.

That's where we're sitting, right here. We didn't move.

-[Jeff] No. -And I go, "We're sitting absolutely still."

Then you hear like high heels literally walking over here.

That was not us.

-That's what's crazy. -[Jeff] Oh, my God.

It is now time for us to begin our lockdown investigation

here in Jamestown, California.

This is a very serious situation that's happening here.

We met a lady when we arrived, saying that she is conducting exorcisms in this town.

We met an ex deputy sheriff that described the possession that happened to him.

Then we interviewed another woman who experienced the same exact thing.

Whatever is happening here, we need to try to get more evidence of

so that we can give a proper diagnosis on how it can be treated

or banished.

and what we're doing we're starting with a live audio analysis.

Basically, we put a microphone down in the basement.

It's a highly sensitive microphone that's dialed into the frequency range

of the human voice, which is great for EVP's.

What we're doing, we're running it into a laptop here

so we can actually watch the waveform.

And as you can see, there's really nothing popping up.

So if there's any noise, you'll actually see it jumping on the waveform,

and Zak will be able to hear it in real time.

where I saw the image of a lady laying there like she was dead, like a corpse.

a malevolent, possessing entity residing in the basement,

which has affected a retired deputy sheriff

and a local citizen.

All I know is whatever it was, was evil.

For a split second, there was a figure hovering over your back, Zak.

First off, Billy has scanned the entire building,

including the second floor and not a single figure

has been mapped the entire time.

As I start feeling something on my back,

Billy captures a figure on my back.

This is irrefutable proof

that we just documented an unknown entity on camera

and the fact that we know when spirits are touching us.

A truly remarkable moment.

For over 45 minutes, we've captured nothing on XLS.

As soon as I felt it, then you saw something.

Hey, it was literally floating right behind you

for a split second and then gone.

[Zak] It's in this corner, it's up here.

We need to do more work right there.

I have not felt something touch me like that

for an extended amount of time, for a long time.

I decided to have Billy and I head back up to Nerve Center

while Aaron stays down here and takes extended exposure Ultraviolet Polaroid photos.

So at this moment, I don't have any doubt that it's there,

and I think it is connected to the ground and those cubbies.

It's connected to the dirt ground.

As Aaron is taking photos in this exact direction

where we just captured the figure on XLS, he sees something.

-[Polaroid prints] -[Zak] As he takes another photo,

you will see it does look dark.

That's because it's in a UV spectrum.

But you can also see this long, wispy, light anomaly

appear in the center of the room, which is truly remarkable.

Is this an energized spiritual form

that manifested in this UV spectrum of light?

Back up at Nerve,

Billy, Jay and I are discussing movement that I think I caught

out of the corner of my eye on one of the X cams.

My eyes weren't focused in like right in that direction,

but I saw movement there.

When we review the footage, we make a shocking discovery.

Because of the darkness of the room,

We do believe that what we are seeing

could possibly be a pillow moving on the bed by itself.

And once we were able to analyze this video further,

we confirmed this is the pillow moving,

as if someone is making the bed

or adjusting it from beneath their head.

This is an incredible piece of poltergeist activity.

After our investigation,

I conclude that there is evidence

of an entity downstairs.

But I'm unable to determine if this was the one that possessed Mike

because I didn't feel any negativity

or like it was trying to enter me.

Now, my protection may be stronger,

and it may have latched on to Mike

from some type of emotional weakness in that moment.
