Jill Hobbs started with the organization in 1976.

Jill was amazing.

The epicenter of the culture.

She's the heartbeat of this organization.

She loved this organization.

Sick! Sick!

She was like one of the guys.

- Hey, there, Jill. - Hey Ricky.

Alrighty!

In 1976, there weren't a lot of women in sports

and the positions that they held were few,

but Jill Hobbs just rolled up her sleeves

and she embraced this organization

and she brought it to life.

When I got to the Buccaneers,

Jill Hobbs did just about everything.

She almost ran this place.

She helped the scouting department.

She was Ron Wood's number one person.

She knew players as well as anybody else

and better than that, she was a winner.

Back in the heyday, she ran the scoreboard.

Yeah, I saw you throwing down.

No!

She would take no shit and just get the job done.

Oh, bump your head and hit it.

Whenever you want to know anything about history,

you went to her because she saw it all firsthand.

We didn't have the big weight room,

so the weights were like on the patio.

Every morning, I'd be out there working out,

Jill come out and have a cigarette.

I'd give her a hard time about her smoking a cigarette

while I'm trying to work out.

She'd get fired up, tell me off or cuss me out.

Most of all, Jill was a friend.

Jill is the type of person to just call you

and let you know you're loved.

When Jill died, it happened fast.

You heard the news that she had cancer.

30 days over, it was over.

Like, it was that fast.

The end of the day, before she passed,

we were getting ready to go to the NFC championship game

against the Green Bay Packers.

All right, all right, all right all right, all right!

And I called her to check on her and

she put it in the only way that Jill Hobbs could put it.

She said, "What the hell are you doing?

"Stop talking to me.

Go beat the fucking Packers."

This is only the fourth time in franchise history

that the Bucs have made it to the NFC championship game.

You'd love to be the first team ever to host a Super Bowl.

Getting ready to go to Green Bay and play,

they're hanging all the Super Bowl banners on our stadium.

Every way to get to our facility was

Super Bowl, Super Bowl, Super Bowl.

The first team meeting, I said, look, fellas,

if you're reading them banners,

we're getting our ass kicked in Green Bay.

Them banners ain't got shit to do with us

until we go win this game.

Our last win at Lambeau, well, you gotta go back to 2005.

It just doesn't get any better

than Aaron Rodgers taking on Tom Brady.

We knocked off Future Hall of Famer Drew Brees,

and now we gotta go play another Future Hall of Famer

in Aaron Rodgers.

Both these quarterbacks are playing the best

that they have all season long.

In fact, both teams have really hit their stride

down the stretch, and for the Tampa Bay defense,

they get Vita Vae back

coming off that broken ankle that he suffered in week five.

I mean, a devastating blow.

I broke my tibia, and I tore my deltoid ligament and my ankle.

Vita and I were building a bond.

I've always wanted a little brother,

and he was filling that void for me.

I really looked up to Suh, and I believed everything he said.

And Suh looks at me, he's like,

you know you're gonna make it back from the playoffs.

Which is crazy, because this type of injury

that I had, not everybody makes it back.

From then on, I'm gonna make it back, I'm gonna make it back.

This is for the Super Bowl.

I want it all!

We want to go play at home next week!

was gonna be able to come back.

I think there are certain guys

that rise to the occasion in the big moments,

and Lenny proved to all of us that's what he was all about.

Every time I turn my head around, that bitch's right there.

You know, you talk about the greatest plays in Bucs history.

Of course, you immediately go to

the Buccaneers 2002 season.

That's intercepted!

You immediately go to Rodne Barber's

92 yard interception return in the NFC Championship.

The second greatest play in my mind happened

in an NFC championship game at Green Bay.

The end of the first half,

and they've got it at the 39 yard line

with about eight seconds left.

I hollered punt and then I think,

so what's the worst thing that could happen?

Aaron Rodgers hits a pass, they kick a field goal.

We're still winning.

Let's go for this.

Those aren't just words for Bruce.

It goes back to a poem

one of my high school coaches put in my playbook.

No great thing is ever gonna happen by happenstance.

You can't hit a home run

if you don't swing for the fence.

I heard the play call come in.

Tom, kind of looks at me as what?

It was double go, me and Scotty.

Scotty Miller was a six round draft pick.

And that was his role with our football team.

I kind of looked down the middle

of the field a little bit.

I remember kind of like looking up,

trying to find the ball.

And I just see Scotty like falling in the end zone with it.

Scotty Miller got behind the defense.

I remember I was in on this play.

I was there for max protection for Tom.

I missed the block. He was about to get to Tom.

Leonard Fournette was right there to scoop him up.

And he blocked him out.

Leonard saved the day.

Nice job. You were in the zone on that.

- Yeah. - Way to see it.

They were all fucked up.

So thank you, Leonard.

I said to my offense coordinator,

He said coach, I already got it called.

I feel like I see where the first down marker

would be on TV.

And like everything's moving in slow motion.

I was, I think, six years old.

My first youth football team was named the Buccaneers.

Like, that was the very first team that I was a fan of.

And as soon as I crossed the first down marker,

I slide and everything speeds up again.

He's got the first down and this game's over.

The Buccaneers are going to Super Bowl 55.

It's our home!

Way to go. Nice job.

Super Bowl 55 in Tampa, Florida.

And I'm, like, ecstatic.

I'm crying on the field.

To win three playoff games on the road, it was incredible.

Fans came out to welcome the NFC champ's home

and Mayor Jane Caster even got in on the action.

This is for the community,

for all those Bucs fans that have been there

from the beginning that never ever lost faith.

This is unbelievable, unbelievable moment.

We did it.

We're here at home with the Super Bowl.

55 years of Super Bowls and it's the first time

ever that a team plays a home game in their home stadium.

It's gonna be total domination.

The Super Bowl is in our home stadium

and it was something that we were gunning for all year

and for it to finally happen,

it was just surreal.

Super Bowl Sunday coming up,

and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says that,

well, the Chiefs can adapt it just about anything

the Buccaneers can throw at them.

I just remember the vibe they had that week

and recognizing that, you know,

Todd Bowles had learned something

about the Kansas City Chiefs

when they played them earlier that year.

We played Kansas City, and we knew Tyreek Hill was fast.

We didn't know how fast.

You want a deep ball? Here it is.

Jump, hit, and a touchdown.

Down the field, who else? Hill!

We realized we can't play man.

We got to go zone, and we went to kind

of a shell coverage and kind of changed some things up

in the start of the second quarter,

and it ended up being a close ball game.

But right after that game,

I said, if I ever played these guys again,

I know exactly what I would do.

It was really the location of where Tyreek Hill was gonna be,

where Kelsey was gonna be,

and where McCall-Harvon was gonna be.

Whether it was three-by-one or two-by-two,

they had telltale signs of what they would and wouldn't run.

When I presented it, usually there's a lot of feedback

going back and forth with all the coaches,

and nobody said a word.

I said, either I'm very crazy

or this is gonna work out great for us.

Defensive play of the night came

when the blitzing All-America Todd Bowles

hit the quarterback.

Todd was captain for me at Temple back in 86

when I was the head coach there.

I would have never thought from Broad Street in Philadelphia

in 1986 to 2020 that Todd and I

would be at a Super Bowl together,

but I knew one thing: I had the best guy going

that could possibly be to shut down the Kansas City Chiefs.

Get a little more fucking physical with these guys

and fucking reroute them and put them in their fucking place.

I was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

I grew up in downtown projects.

They were called Pioneer Homes,

and I fell in love with football at a very young age.

There wasn't much else to do down there,

but play football or do drugs or gamble,

so football was a big outlet for me.

I was a big Richard Woods fan

because he's from my hometown,

and we went to the same high school,

so I kind of followed him from that standpoint,

so it was really huge for us to see Richard Woods doing that,

and I kind of caught on to Doug by watching Richard,

and Doug is the sole responsibility

I'm sitting here and coaching today.

I gave his first coaching job at Morehouse College.

I begged him to come and be my defensive coordinator.

Free safety Todd Bowles.

'86, I signed with the Redskins as a free agent,

and Doug was just finishing up in the USFL.

He came in '86 as well.

We lived about a mile and a half down the street

from each other, and we would go against each other

in practice every day,

and we developed a very close relationship there.

Years later, Doug was a scout for Jacksonville.

I was a scout for Green Bay,

but we both had the East Coast,

so I ran into him every week,

so he asked me, he said he was gonna get the head job

at Morehouse, and he asked me to be his defensive coordinator.

I asked him why me, he can get anybody he wants.

He said no, he wanted me, watched me in practice every day,

so I was the guy for the job,

so I got the job with Doug at Morehouse College.

Then he went following me to Grambling.

For a year at Grambling, he was my defensive coordinator,

and I look at him now.

He's done one heck of a job here in Tampa.

Are you ready yet?

Here we are, kick off a second away.

This is a matchup that we're gonna be talking about,

I think for a long time.

The most surreal moment for me came thinking about my dad.

He passed away the year before,

and we always had talked about if I could become

a general manager and go to a Super Bowl

and win a Super Bowl, and those were my dreams,

and he always talked about those things with me.

So I'm sitting on the bench,

texting with some family members,

had my head down, and all of a sudden I look up,

and Brady's standing right in front of me.

Gave me a wink, and he said,

this is gonna be a great day, Jay.

That moment for me is probably one

that I will never forget.

You get to the culmination of the season, the Super Bowl,

and you dream of what it's like to be there.

And here you are, you're about 25 minutes

from the game starting, and it's kind of the last chance

to remind everyone what we're playing for.

Brady didn't speak all year,

he never said anything, pre-game, post-game,

he never really said anything.

He said, guys, I got something to say,

and we all huddled around him.

And it's like, you could hear a pin drop in there,

it was dead silent, everyone's eyes were on Tom.

Oh my gosh, I'm getting juiced up.

And he had that look in his eye,

that look that we saw all season,

that he's ready to go to war.

That level of intentionality and excitement

for someone who's already done it so many times,

that's contagious.

And it was a simple message.

This is about honor, your whole family,

and yourself will be remembered for how you play today.

To win that game changes not just your life,

it changes the life of everybody

that's been associated with you.

To hear that from him,

just solidified who we are as a team and why we're here.

We could be that Super Bowl 55 championship team,

nobody could ever take that away from him.

I felt like he was just saving that speech

for the right time,

because that was one of those movie scripts.

It was an unbelievably powerful message.

It was about letting the guys know

that honor is what that game's about.

And you're honored, your family's honored,

your kids are honored,

and everybody that's made the sacrifice for you,

your entire career,

to play the game you love and do what you love,

gets to share in the same excitement.

Everybody looked around after like...

Let's go!

Had only two winning seasons of the past decade.

Hadn't won a playoff game

since winning the Super Bowl back in 02.

This could be one for the ages.

The weight of that game is impossible to ignore.

My legs were like trembling a little bit.

That stress is real.

I remember, specifically,

they had on the inner part of their jerseys,

they had back-to-back on there.

They were, like, predicting

that they were gonna go back-to-back.

And, like, that was kind of disrespectful, right?

Remember, that offense looking so sharp

and so under control.

And you just saw that we were well-prepared for this game.

They go to Brate.

We had answers for every blitz.

We had answers for every coverage.

So no matter what they threw at us,

our guys were prepared and our communication was so good,

and that built up over the course of the season

that, you know, we were firing on all cylinders.

You could see Coach Bowles on the sideline

the way he was calling plays.

I believe in the plan that we came here,

we don't need to change anything.

All you guys need to do is go out there and execute.

They gave Mahomes no chance.

You see the pressure that Mahomes was having

to throw with the guy in his face?

Yeah, it was almost like he was running for his life.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense was serving up

body blows after body blow,

and the Chiefs, they aren't able to handle.

My gosh, that pass rush.

The whole season, we were building up to something great,

but that game was just a masterful game for us.

We played our best game offensively and defensively.

We were playing really a perfect game.

First and 10, Brady from the pocket.

They've got the Kansas City defense on its heels now.

Right before the half, I run a goal ball

As time goes on, people forget COVID

and the world just coming apart,

you don't even know if you're going to have a season,

let alone a Super Bowl.

The sports world just shut down.

We have some new numbers tonight that highlight

the hardest hit areas in Tampa Bay.

That whole season, and I've said this to many people

all the time when I say,

I still feel like it was very surreal.

It was COVID. It was a very weird time.

The first responders during COVID were incredible.

They were risking their lives and doing everything

so everybody else in the community could function properly.

And so we thought it was really important

to include them at the Super Bowl.

We were limited to 25,000 people at the stadium,

but we made sure that those first responders

were included as part of that group.

To be able to uplift our community,

it was really unbelievable.

That intensity lent itself to bringing the team together

and really one team, one cause: to win a Super Bowl.

The Buccaneers, the first team to ever play

in the Super Bowl on their home turf.

For Kansas City, it's a tall task.

And they can do it, but this is a tall task for the second half.

They're hard to beat at any time.

Before that game,

what was the last big game Patrick Mahomes lost?

He's walking out in the second half of the Super Bowl down 15.

He's not done.

Edward Zolaire, rookie running.

I didn't feel like the game was over.

I'd seen Patrick Mahomes score touchdowns in 17 seconds.

Get Hill out in the open.

Even the throws he was missing, he was barely missing

when he was diving and throwing the football.

He can beat you time and time and time and time again

because you've seen it.

So we had to be relentless.

To Kelsey.

Mahomes to Kelsey, connected.

Kelsey was six of 12 Mahomes completions.

Kelsey's going to be the guy.

The only thing I was hesitant about

was our coverage on Kelsey.

Kelsey always went off against everybody.

So I'm looking like now y'all think

that's enough for Kelsey and won't need nobody over

the top with nothing?

We was one on one in Kelsey the whole game

and we was letting Lavonte take it.

My assignment that game was to be on Travis Kelsey,

how to minimize him as much as I can.

Kelsey goes up and shakes people.

He wins all the time, but David says I'm not going to back up.

Most people back up a half a step with the body weight.

He's hitting him right there

and it's really affected this offense.

Lavonte may be the most underrated guy

in modern NFL era.

Nine years overlooked, no respect by the media,

can't get elected to the Pro Bowl,

but good golly, what he has done for this franchise.

We wanted to play prison ball.

We wanted to go out there and smack them in the face.

I knew if we continued to play that way,

they were going to fold and they were going to break.

As an offensive line, that was our mindset.

We're going to go in there. We're going to break them.

We're going to not let them get any shred of confidence.

I think we got into the flow.

We got into the rhythm. We got into the trust.

And all those days at Berkeley paid off,

all that trust that we developed paid off.

The pressure that we put on people to succeed

every day paid off.

And it paid off against the best team that we played all season.

We're going to put the nail in the motherfucker.

That big run that Lenny had.

Soon as he hits the corner, he takes off.

That was craziness.

During that very moment, what I was thinking about

was sitting in B.A.'s backyard having a drink saying,

let's don't cut Lenny.

Wow. What a statement by Tampa.

Mahomes batted away, incomplete.

Sometimes dreams become nightmares.

You know, as a competitor,

you never want somebody to have an insane game like that

against you, but you just never want that to happen to you.

Now your Super Bowl is definitely on the line, Jim,

you don't get this one, I'm calling it.

It was a little out of character for me,

because you know I try to stay humble,

but no, that time I just had to do it,

it was just something I felt like I couldn't pass up

on the opportunity, the situation was just too good.

I'm so glad you did that.

Oh I had to, it was only right.

Patrick Mahomes, he got beat by our defense.

I've watched a lot of football over the years,

studied it a bunch even more after I retired,

and there's one thing, man:

a great defense can always beat a great offense, always.

And as a football player,

you always dream about going to the Super Bowl,

and having all those dreams come into fruition

in that one moment...

Everything we had gone through that entire year,

all the struggles,

the bad football, the great football,

we worked through all of that to get to this point right here.

It was special.

Bucs are going to beat the Chiefs!

We're the champions of the world!

Every since I started coaching,

I dreamt about that Gatorade bath,

what it would be like

to have a Gatorade bath at a Super Bowl.

About that time Vita threw that blue Gatorade on me,

it was the greatest feeling in the world.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a second Super Bowl title

in franchise history.

After the Super Bowl, me and Tom embraced,

and I just told him thank you.

Thank you for coming here and changing our lives

and this franchise history.

- Thank you so much. - We won!

That's right, we won it.

The confetti starts to fly, and my first thought

was trying to find my wife.

Let's go!

My and my wife have been together since

we were in high school.

She was like, you want to go into the confetti?

Like we're kids.

I'm like, yeah, let's do it.

Champagne shower tonight!

My wife and my dad came down,

and, uh, yeah, it's emotional, man.

They see, uh, when the biggest moment, like, it's so special.

My first thought that came to my mind

was when my dad was,

when I saw him, you know, we just embraced each other.

And that same year, he passed away.

Just for him to be able to celebrate with me,

that moment would never leave my memory.

My dad was my biggest support.

He deserved a lot of credit for molding me to who I am today.

We didn't have a car at one point,

so he had to ride me on a bike on the handlebars,

and went to practice, made the practice on time,

and you just look back, and he was there for me the whole way.

When my family came out of the tunnel

to congratulate me and give me a hug,

seeing the smiles on their faces

probably was one of the happiest moments ever.

There was text messages with me and Doug, and how happy he was,

and I saw a lot of Doug Williams jerseys out there,

and they gave me a big sense of gratification.

There's no drug in the world you can give yourself

to make you feel the way you feel after you win a Super Bowl.

Knowing how hard it is, and to get back there and do it,

was a feeling of monumental achievement and appreciation,

and the satisfaction and happiness

for everybody in Tampa.

People don't realize I got kicked

out of high school my senior year,

and the look on my dad's face stuck with me

for a very, very long time, that I embarrassed him.

Not that he didn't love me all this time,

and my sister always gets pissed off

when I tell the story that I felt that way.

So then when my wife and son and daughter came down,

was the best family hug ever.

During that hug, um...

Pop, we did it.

You know, "we did it" is a great three words in sports.

We did it, and I think I said it probably a million times

from the end of that game

through the start of the next season,

because we did it.

You are the Super Bowl champions.

Joel, to the entire Glazer family, congratulations.

The Vince Lombardi trophy is staying in Tampa Bay.

I remember looking over and seeing Joel,

and Ed, and Brian, and Darcy,

and Kevin, and Avie actually all together in one moment,

and they saw me embracing my family,

and I know that they were thinking of their dad

the same way that I was thinking of my dad.

I thought about my father, how he would have enjoyed it.

I thought about everything he had done

to help us get to this point,

to own this football team, and that he couldn't be there,

yet, you know, he was there in spirit,

and without him, we wouldn't be standing there.

My father would have been very proud of my family,

the organization, the players,

the city of Tampa, he would have been very proud of that moment.

But this is great, this moment.

If you just had this one moment, that's enough for a lifetime.

My father had an expression.

If you want to know the road ahead,

ask the person who's been there.

We found that person.

Ten Super Bowl appearances, seven victories.

Tom Brady.

Yes, you did.

I'm so proud of all these guys down here.

I think we knew this was going to happen tonight, didn't we?

World Champions Forever, you can't take it away from us.

Having been there before,

that was a week where I tried to enjoy the moment,

to try to soak in the moment, because it is so hard.

It is so, so hard to not only get to the Super Bowl,

but to win it.

It had been 18 years since we had won our last Super Bowl.

That's a full generation ago.

And so what it meant to the city,

what it meant to my family,

words can't even describe it, it was just everything.

We appreciate the players

who stuck it out during losing seasons.

People like Mike Evans, Lavonte David.

They stuck with us when things were bad,

and when things got great,

they probably appreciate more than anybody else.

The lean years, the years we were going 2 and 14, 5 and 11,

that's some tough time.

Go to hear it from family members,

go to hear it from friends, you know,

like, man, what's going on with y'all?

Y'all ain't winning, this, and that.

A lot of players wouldn't make it through something like that.

It don't matter how you start, it's how you finish.

I remember saying to my brothers, what are we doing?

And I don't remember who told me, but boat parade.

Boat parade? What the fuck is a boat parade?

We just thought we were gonna go on a boat.

We'll see a few fans.

Ride around for like 10, 20 minutes and be done.

We just took the idea of a boat parade and supersized it.

Seemingly the entire city of Tampa,

they were also on the water the entire day.

It's just one big party.

We're trying to get to the beginning

of the boat parade and we can't even move.

Then Tom comes down, he's got his own boat.

It's like the parting of the Red Sea,

everybody moves for Tom, right?

Our daughter Zoe is holding the trophy

and I looked at my wife and I said,

I think this is the greatest day of my life.

Besides, of course, you know, the day we got married

and the day we had kids

and then she said, no, this is better than all of that.

We had to pull this whole thing together in 48 hours.

And then getting the word out in basically one day,

the result was...

You're going crazy.

I had the trophy.

All the tight ends were on one boat

and they kept going, hey, throw the trophy.

And after probably eight shots of tequila,

I was like, that seems like a good idea.

You ready?

I was getting ready to clock it back.

One, two, we're kind of counting down.

And at the last second, I hear my daughter go...

- Dad, no! - No!

Foo foom, foo foom, foo foom, foo foom.

Next thing you know, I look on my phone,

it's Tom throwing the trophy.

I'm like, oh, this is insane.

I couldn't believe it.

My mind was shocked and you could definitely tell

when he threw that trophy,

Tom Brady was a different cat being down in Tampa.

But I'll tell you what,

we was not going to let that damn trophy go to the bottom.

I was ready to dive in in the water

just in case it failed.

We thankfully pulled it off.

But without a lot of looking back,

thinking what the fuck was I thinking?

You know, when you get a taste of it once,

you never think it's coming back.

And then for me, it was kind of a little promise.

We're going to bring it back a winner.

We're going to keep this band together.

We're going for two and we ain't stopping.

I want to be back. I love to be back.

I love to do it again.

I created a special bond with all these guys.

Your ass ain't going nowhere.

We deserve this shit. We worked hard all year.

I mean, you can't put Tom in it because he was here three years.

I want to say Lavonte.

He's a guy that when you are talking to younger players,

you want them to play like him, no matter what position.

I think he's a first-ballot Hall of Famer in my eyes.

In my opinion, I think he's the greatest Buccaneer of all time.

Rodne is great. Derrick is great.

Sapp is great. Doug was great.

But I can only go by what I see.

So I'm going to say Mike Evans.

I'm going to have to go with my guy Mike Evans.

I have to go Derrick Brooks.

Mike Evans, to see what he's done

in the course of his career,

is just something that's crazy.

He's constantly been a thousand-yard receiver.

He's done it with different quarterbacks

almost every other year,

regardless of whether it's Ryan Fitzpatrick

or whether it's Tom Brady.

He's done it with everybody.

I don't think anyone can argue that fact for any other player.
