A lot of people thought we're wasting our time down there and all of the old

-timers have got them all.

We've already proved they haven't gotten them all. We've got a piece that's close

to 38 ounces and that is a good chunk. It's a lifetime nugget for most people.

operations running at once is going to really pay off for us.

This season, the Poseidon crew is split between two legendary pieces of ground,

while Jaden Perry uses a wash plant to find fine gold at German Gully. As long

as everything's running right and the gold's coming out, can't ask for

anything more.

continue their hunt for record-breaking nuggets 26 kilometres away at Caddo's

Paddock.

Yeah, look, Dad's reliving that moment of pulling the nugget out of the ground

almost every single minute, to be honest with you.

Here at Caddo's Paddock, this is going to be glory nuggets like that. But over

at German Gully, we're going to get there as the fine gold.

I'll describe that nugget as the icebreaker nugget. It broke the ice and

the question and the tension surrounding Caddo's Paddock and it's really opened

the floodgates to what's possible out here.

I'm absolutely loving working out here with Dad.

I used to dress up in my Dad's high-vis when I was young and turned on the

excavator digging and finding gold in my backyard, driving Mum and Dad crazy.

So it's a big step and a big moment in my life to finally helping my Dad,

working with my Dad, finding gold, having both our dreams coming true at

the same time.

He's growing into a really capable young man and he's sitting in the excavator

loading me now.

Pretty proud moment for me.

We've made a pretty good start to the season. We're looking for a 200-ounce

season, which is a million dollars.

If we can get to that million dollars, we can really supersize German gully and

caddos. There's no reason we shouldn't be having 100-ounce weigh-ins

frequently.

With the gold price of $5,000 an ounce...

There is no better time in history to be a gold miner than right now.

Everything's running really good, ticking like clockwork.

This week I'm out at German Gully.

Brent wants to throw us all in the deep end a little bit, you know, so then if

anything goes wrong, we're all capable of running whatever we need to run every

time.

To hit their target, Brent has put Jaden to the test this week, tasking him with

running their six-tonne-an-hour mini wash plant 10 hours a day at German

Gully.

Working like a giant washing machine, it uses water and gravity to extract the

fine gold.

The barrel's got to be spinning, the water's got to be running.

If it's not spinning and the water's not running, it's not doing its job.

It looks like I've done at least 100 ton at the moment.

We're trying to get through about 50 ton a day.

So by the end of the cleanup, we've gone through about 500 ton.

This is the old man's dream.

He wanted us doing what he loved.

I believe he's still watching us now, but if you could be here and seeing his

work together, I don't think you'd be able to wipe the smile off the guy's

face, that's for sure.

This site could be one of the richest sites found in Victoria.

We're hoping to be leaving by seven o'clock but there's always something

extra you got to do so, you know, already behind time.

So we've got about 27 bits of equipment to move. A 7800k drive with hopefully no

dramas.

So it's going to be tiring and we're already tired because we've been really

packing everything away.

Cheryl Munro and Simon Laws have expanded their mining operation this

season.

Most of what we did last year we put back into the business.

We've brought a second dry blower, two extra loaders. We've put on four full

-time staff.

So we've got a lot more pressure. We've got to keep payable dirt in front of us

all the time.

But with a two-ounce, $10,000 daily target needed to stay afloat... The gold

has been starting to run out a little bit on this lease. The grade is dropping

off. Diminishing returns here at their Meekathara lease have forced them to

take a $40,000 gamble and move their entire operation to new ground.

Bit nervous because you don't know whether there's actually going to be any

gold in the ground there, but hopefully there is. You know, it's like moving

house. You just got to get it all there and unpack the carnage at the other end.

To get there, they've hired a trucking company to haul their heavy machinery

over nine hours to the new site.

Throw it in your caravan, throw it in your ute.

It's all got to go there eventually.

Leaving Cheryl, Simon and the team to dismantle and transport their camp. It's

like a game of Tetris, trying to fit what you can fit in.

Living quarters and remaining mining gear themselves.

So I've got Sage here helping. Took the big guns in to help us for the week.

Cheryl's 13-year-old, Sage, has taken time off school in Perth to help with

the massive move.

It's... entirely different to city life out here it's so remote you don't even

get like a phone reception it's crazy yeah there has to be gold at

Kalgoorlie we can't come back here because we're finishing on this lease

and then once it's done it's done so yeah there's got to be gold there the

bank balance will not be good I'm probably going toward bankruptcy if we

don't get enough gold

So it's a long way to go and $40,000 worth of money to get there.

And it's a big gamble, but hopefully that gamble's going to pay off.

But right now, their lifeline has come to a standstill.

When you're watching everything you've got, it's a lot to watch when you're

running a plant.

But it's been running good this whole time there, mate. I've run about 100

tonne through this thing today. Well, these vibrate a fair bit, so let's fire

it up and let's try it.

Jayden's with him, I can go out and say, what do I need you boys for? Look what

I think Simon's driving the two biggest vehicles and he probably can't see how

far we are behind because it's all just dusty. So he's probably went on ahead

thinking we're just behind him. So these radios, although we're all in convoy,

they do have limitations because they have a distance of maybe about five

kilometers depending on the terrain.

And this is actually the vehicle we thought would give us no hassles. And

it's just not ideal. We're all tired. You know, we had three hours sleep last

night. We're all just tired.

hungry and you just want to get there and it's just put you behind time and

hours away from any mechanical help.

Sam's behind me so hopefully he comes soon.

I was driving and the alarm sensor came up on my dash saying that the oil level

is too high. I checked the dipstick and it is high.

Yeah. Oh, it's 12, so that'll be good. That'll be great.

Maybe there is far too much in there, then.

So Sam said there is too much oil, which will foam up like a milkshake, and it

won't coat the engine properly and won't lubricate the engine the way it should

and affect the pistons and the running of the engine, which could ultimately

knacker the engine. So he's underneath a sump valve trying to drain some oil.

just hopefully get the oil level down.

Cheryl, Simon and their team are midway through an 800-kilometre move to new

ground. This is not what we need right now.

If the breakdown stops the convoy from reaching their new home in Kalgoorlie

before nightfall, the team will be forced to sleep on the side of the road.

Well and truly we'll be landing in the dark.

roos and there's cattle on the road and everything and you don't want to be

I reckon we got through probably close to maybe 550, 600 tonne.

This is the sluice box. These are our sluice mats where all the dirt we've put

through. The concentrate comes through here, traps all the gold in these little

holes, and then what we've got to do is we've got to take it out, wash it in the

bucket, and then we've got to pan it off and see what concentrates we've got.

Then we've got to get it all smelted up and get it on the scales, and hopefully

we've got a good bar.

Well, this is looking pretty good there mate. How much you reckon we're gonna

get? Yeah, well the gold that's already in here mate, cleaned up and whatever

you've got in there, I reckon we... Gonna be alright.

I've got this basically done. Beautiful.

So then once you get all your gold cleaned up, you burn all the water off

now.

So what happens if you poured that with water straight into that though?

If the furnace was hot and the crucible was hot, It'll basically explode.

We'll turn the furnace on. That gets up to 1150 degrees.

Gold basically smelts at 1060, 64 degrees.

It gets pretty bloody hot.

We'll shut that down.
