[upbeat music]

It was Robby's favorite day of the year...

when Ice Cream Mountain appeared down the road,

piled high with every flavor of ice cream in the world.

[gasps]

This year, Robby was finally old enough

to go to the mountain on his own.

He laced up his favorite red sneakers and headed off.

[Randy] This is the famed children's author,

Hawthorne Carmichael,

reading his beloved book,

Robby's Big Scoop,"

to his granddaughter

for the very first time.

Feel those feelings, babe.

I find it hard to believe that Susie

hasn't heard this before.

Some even call it a classic.

That's why we saved it for you, Dad.

You wrote it, just like the first time you read it to me.

Remember when folks used to call you the "Scoop Kid"?

- [both chuckle] - Yeah, I remember.

And you got your favorite ice cream free

wherever you went... chocolate mint chip.

[chuckles] Oh, babe, shoe's untied.

[clears throat] Okay.

Let's find out what happens next.

Robby had to get to Ice Cream Mountain

before all the scoops got scooped.

So he had to remember one thing...

stay on track.

But he was barely on his way

when he caught sight of some odd footprints.

Robby stepped off the path to follow where they might lead.

[doorbell rings]

That's my buddy Stu.

He's a big fan of the Robby books.

I told him to stop by.

- Cool with you, Dad? - Of course!

We'll finish this later.

Happy 30th scoop-iversary!

I brought all my Robby books and a surprise...

Oh, and the kids.

[Hawthorne] Pleasure to meet you, Stu.

- Hawthorne Carmichael. - [door closes]

Just a flat-out honor, Sir Hawthorne.

Did I just say Sir Hawthorne,

like you're a knight or something?

Which would make total sense,

because in the book, there's a knight.

Bah! You know that already.

Hawthorne was just reading the book to Susie...

her first time.

Well, did she like when Robby went off into the bushes

or chased after the astronaut?

Am I right, Scoop Kid?

And there it is.

Would you like me to sign some of your books?

He's signing my books!

Your dad is so cool.

What's wrong, Susie?

This kid Robby has to get to Ice Cream Mountain.

It's his favorite day of the year,

but he's already messing up!

Back up. Tell me more about this mountain.

Yeah! What flavor ice cream?

Any kind you want, Lil.

But from what I heard, Robby's never going to get there.

Look at this.

[upbeat music]

[all gasp]

It's even bigger and frostier than I thought!

[thudding]

You didn't say there was a "kangaroom"!

I didn't get that far in the story.

Wait a minute.

These are the footprints Robby was following!

[light thudding]

So the baby "kangaroom"

probably went off to get ice cream,

and the mama went looking for it in the bushes.

But where's Robby?

- [clanging footsteps] - Whoa!

Is Robby made out of metal?

- Sir Knight! - Huh?

You dropped this!

What do you do with this thing?

Is it just a big stick or... or a pole or...

[grunts] Oh! Oh!

Yeah, okay. Bye!

I mean good day, Sir Knight!

That was a people under that clanky metal, right?

Oh, yeah. I seen him around jousting and stuff,

but I never got to talk to him before.

- I'm Robby. Who are you? - I'm Susie!

And this is Tommy and Chuckie and Phil and Lil.

We're here to help you get to Ice Cream Mountain!

You know, in case you get distracted.

Hey, where did the top go?

[Robby] It's been scooped!

By the looks of it, all the butter pecan is...

[bleating]

Gone. Goats get there early, but there'll be plenty

of other flavors for us when we get there.

- So let's get going. - [indistinct chatter on radio]

Um, maybe first we should get out of the way.

[all] Whoa!

Space Station, this is Commander Carson.

I'm nowhere near the top of the mountain. Over.

You came all the way from the Space Station?

A-ffirmative.

Ice Cream Mountain is so big and bright and yummy-looking,

we can see it from space!

I was supposed to land on the peak.

Someone didn't do their homework.

[man, over radio] We heard that. Locking in new coordinates.

Remember the rocky road... ice cream, that is.

Copy that. Over and out.

See you later, kids!

Tell me about being in space!

Have you seen the dark side of the moon?

Is the Milky Way more milky up there?

- How many light-years old am I? - Yes, no.

And that isn't how light-years work!

Wait, what happens when you sneeze inside your helmet?

I want to know about the sneezing, too.

But don't you kind of have to stay on track?

Eh, I guess so.

Hey, maybe someday I'll become an astronaut!

I bet you will.

But right now we got a mountain to scoop.

[children giggling]

[Hawthorne] Last one.

- Nice collection. - Thank you.

I will treasure these.

I can't believe I never asked you.

Did you ever dress up like a Yeti for Halloween?

You know, like the one Robby meets?

He sure did. I've seen the pictures.

So cute!

- Priceless. - Horrible.

It was really hot!

No kid wants to be covered in fur

on their favorite day of the year.

Everyone thought I was a zombie poodle.

That's brilliant, Randy.

Hey, H, what if you wrote a new Robby book

about his worst Halloween?

- [chuckles] - [snorts]

Oh, I think I've written all the Robby stories

there are to tell.

[gasps]

What's he doing now?

[wondrous music]

[birds chirping]

I hear them, but I don't see them.

[clears throat] Allow me, Chuckie.

[squawking]

That's not how you call a seal.

- Penguin! - Huh?

Whoa-ho-ho! Oh, yeah!

Whoa! [grunts]

[disappointing music]

[chirping]

Oh, hey! Did you know that penguins don't have teeth?

And they can walk 60 miles?

- And they poop every 20 minutes? - [flatulence]

We have a lot to learn from our "aminal" friends.

You speak penguin, Robby?

Oh, no. I read a book about it.

Okay, let's get going.

Uh, Robby.

Ooh, a cotton candy tree!

Lillian, cotton candy comes from clouds,

not trees.

I'm pretty sure it's fur.

You mean, like, from a fluffy kitty?

No. I mean a Yeti!

These are all good things to talk about

when we're on the way to get ice cream!

[creature roaring]

[children shout]

Robby!

[roaring]

[footsteps thudding]

[growling]

[bicycle bell rings]

I just had to fix the chain on this bicycle!

[roaring]

Here you go.

I figured that roar was a call for help.

This Yeti's bicycle was broken.

He must be on his way to Ice Cream Mountain, too!

[roars]

- Bye! - Bye, Yeti!

- Oh, no. - [penguins chirping]

I don't see how we'll get to the mountain

before it's all scooped!

[Susie] Don't worry. I have a plan.

[sighs, grunts]

- All set. - Copy that!

[overlapping speech]

[gasps] Whoa!

[laughs]

[children giggling]

[light music]

[children grunting]

Everyone okay?

Susie, that was amazing!

- Great idea! - [children gasping]

Oh, no, it's all gone.

[chirping]

[flatulence]

Because I stopped all over the place,

I'll have to wait a whole year for Ice Cream Mountain

- to come again. - It's okay.

So you did not stay on track,

but you did meet all kinds of "aminals"

and peoples and monsters.

[bicycle bell rings]

[roars]

[grumbles]

- Thank you, Yeti! Wow! - [laughter]

- You're sure nice. - [laughter]

[children giggling]

Smart and curious, just like her daddy.

[chuckles] Hopefully not too much like me.

I was goofy and easily distracted.

Yes, you were...

to discover something new or figure something out,

the makings of a true thinker.

You ever wonder who Robby grew up to be?

- Dad, he was fictional. - Not to me.

I was looking at him his whole young life,

like I'm looking at him right now,

and I'm so proud.

Really, Dad?

[Hawthorne] Really.

You got to come see what Stu brought.

[Stu] Vanilla, strawberry, and for folks who can't decide,

Neapolitan.

Just a little thank-you for my childhood,

because in the end, Robby's ice cream dreams

all came true.

[cries] It gets me every time.

Thanks, man.

Can't say no to chocolate mint chip!

Let's get scooping!

[children giggling]

You know, it might be time

to tell a new character's story.

Hey, Suze.

Look what Granddaddy drew just for you.

[upbeat music]

[suspenseful music]

Exciting news to share, children.

I'll be attending a dance-teacher convention

in Akron, Ohio, this weekend.

So that means one of you will get to take home

our class pet, Pierre.

Volunteers?

[both giggling]

Kimi and Angelica.

Now, who has earned the privilege?

How about we let our Bean Good jars decide?

[rattling]

[squeals, giggles]

As you may know, Ms. Watanabe,

bearded dragons, or "beardies" in the reptile-pet community,

are easy to care for,

as long as you keep a precise schedule.

You'll want to study this when you get home.

But let me just quickly go over 25 or 30 key points.

Oh, thank you, Mr. Garth!

Have a wonderful time in Akron!

Oh, I shall.

Goodbye, and thank you.

Au revoir, Pierre.

Oh, welcome, Pierre. What a strong brow line.

[chuckles] See? I'm totally calm.

Don't look, Chuckie! It's terrifying!

Don't worry, Chas.

You won't even see Pierre all weekend.

Kimi will take care of him in her room.

Right, Kimi?

And after this, maybe we'll see if we're ready

for our own family pet.

[accordion music]

- I think he likes me. - Oh, I'm sure he does.

[gasps] Every caf needs a French poodle.

Snack time, Pierre!

What do you think of his new home, Mama?

The theme is Lizards in Paris.

Oh, I love it!

But it's time to take a break from decorating

and feed Pierre.

He's on a schedule.

Before I place this cute little French windmill?

Yes.

Remember Mr. Garth's instructions.

Feed one leaf at a time.

They're delicate chewers.

Have fun.

I could do it if you want to keep "wreckorating."

Oh, that's nice of you, Chuckie,

but Pierre is my responsibility.

I don't mind.

It's kind of sweet how he just chews and chews...

and chews.

Still on the first leaf.

[accordion music]

Isn't he fabulous?

Let's sit him at the caf so he can order a croissant.

Ooh, trs chic!

Time for Pierre's tail ointment.

Just a little dab.

- [doorbell rings] - Ooh, coming!

Ew.

It's gooey.

His tail won't know the difference

if we skip one time, right?

But what if it does?

[groaning]

Hello, Lou, kids.

How'd you know we needed a stepladder?

A little bird told me. [chuckles]

- Can I go see Kimi? - Sure.

Kimi and Chuckie are upstairs.

[upbeat music]

[giggling]

Oh, say, what happened here?

Puce happened.

Not as neutral as we'd hoped.

Nothing a good primer won't cover.

Put me to work.

Oh, Lou, we would never ask you.

Brush or roller?

Tommy, this is Pierre. He's a bearded dragon.

Wow. He dresses fancy.

Nice beret.

So what's it like taking care of a slimy lizard?

Lizards aren't slimy, Angelica.

They're scaly.

And I get to do all kinds of fun stuff with him,

like feed him very, very slowly

and put ointment on his tail.

- [chuckles] - Time for Pierre's walk.

Already?

I mean, of course, Mama.

Pierre is my responsibility.

Hey, you changed up his cage?

Oh, yes. Let me show you.

[gasps] After I walk Pierre.

Tommy and me could walk him, tight, Tommy?

Yeah. We're good at walking.

- See? - Thank you, Tommy.

But everyone's counting on me to look after him.

You got some perfectly good lizard walkers here.

No sense in letting them go to waste.

I guess I could let them help.

[upbeat music]

Now, don't go too fast and be sure to stay in the house.

- Okay. - Mm-hmm.

I've known Pierre for some time now,

so I'm kind of an expert.

Isn't it so French?

There's the Eiffel Tower, a French caf,

and his French poodle.

I don't see any French toast.

Ooh, good idea!

Um, Kimi?

[gasps] Where's Pierre?

I'm not sure.

One minute, he was there, and the next...

Gone.

- [both] What? - This is terrible.

We have to find him before my mama does...

or your daddy!

Come on, let's start looking.

Who's responsible now, hmm?

Pierre? Pierre?

Are you in there?

Ooh, ooh, ooh.

Not here.

Not here.

Nope.

Where could he be?

I'm sure he'll pop up somewhere,

and it'll be a big surprise.

Yeah. [chuckles] Almost ready.

You'd be amazed how many painting accidents

are caused by improperly secured drop cloths.

Just la-di-dah, and then whoops.

Well, that's unlikely.

Oh, I was just about to fill that.

There's some putty in the garage.

Whoa.

[chuckling]

[squeals, giggling]

[dramatic music]

[Kira] Uh-uh, away from the paint.

Now, you might want to clean those light fixtures

before we put them back.

Best to soak them in the kitchen sink.

Chas, can you grab that box?

I thought we were gonna paint.

Why don't we all have a cup of tea,

as long as we're going to the kitchen?

Sure.

You got any Marvelous Marigold

or Ginger Blast?

[Dil giggling]

[upbeat music]

Look, something tells me these feety prints

belong to Pierre.

Brilliant. Those will lead us right to him.

Yep, we found the exact spot

that he "famished" into thin air.

Oh, this is all my fault.

We were the ones who lost him.

I was the one who let you take him.

Why did I do it?

Now Pierre will have to find

bok choy leaves in the wild,

and his tail will get itchy.

And Mr. Garth is going to dump out all my beans!

I'll never be snack monitor again!

One thing I've learned in this long life of mine is,

always blame the babies.

It's not like they're gonna get in any real trouble.

I mean, if nobody gets in trouble...

No, it's still wrong.

We're gonna keep looking until we find him.

Nope, no feety prints here either.

Maybe he wiped-ed them off.

Everyone's always telling me how responsible I am.

This can't be happening!

It's all right.

Kimi the Lizard Loser isn't such a bad nickname.

Aw.

[giggling]

Where do you think you're going?

Now, when we paint these cabinets with a semigloss,

that'll make them easier to clean.

Oh, we're not painting the kitchen.

Oh, Kira and I were thinking we should really do

the whole downstairs.

I'm starting to think you two

are in cahoots together.

[giggling]

[door creaks closed]

We've looked everywhere, Kimi.

[sighs] That's it, then.

They gave me a responsibility, and I failed.

I can't believe it.

Things were going so well

the first three and a half years.

- Oh. - Unless...

You're right, Angelica.

I have no choice.

I can't let everyone down.

I'm sorry, Chuckie and Tommy.

I have to blame you two.

Whatever you think is best.

Like they say, a big kid's got to do

what a big kid's got to do.

[somber music]

Angelica, I can't.

I have to tell the truth, no matter what happens.

It's who I am.

Kimi, if that's who you are,

then you're bad at being bad.

I know.

[chuckles] Mama, can I talk to you?

[Kira] Coming!

Aah!

Pierre!

I was so worried about you.

What is it, Kimi?

I was thinking...

Pierre might like to go outside and enjoy the sunshine.

That's a good idea.

But be careful. You wouldn't want to lose him.

Can you imagine that thing loose around here?

What a nightmare.

[laughing]

So everything worked out.

And the grown-ups never even need to know.

But I'll know.

And that's why I'm gonna

tell my mama everything.

I just want this whole Pierre thing over with.

Well, thanks for the tea.

I'll be back tomorrow to touch up those baseboards,

bright and early.

Come on, sprouts.

Chas and I have been talking,

and we've decided you are ready for a pet.

Um, actually, there's no hurry.

I think maybe having a pet

is more of a kindergartner kind of thing.

[laughing]

[closing theme music]
