That's right. The IES are spread across

three glorious nights.

It's a little like that friend who

celebrates their birthday month because

they like free margaritas,

except this actually makes sense because

there's a lot of different categories.

There's digital, there's short form.

Yeah. Shows about shows that you just

watched.

Now we have these uh one to three minute

dramas they make for your phones.

I Is that where our attention span is

right now, folks? Huh? Is that where

we're going? I look, I've been up here

for less than a minute, and some of

y'all not even listening to me now. You

just just trying to scroll. Yeah, stop

scrolling.

But these vertical series, it's it's

content. But I'm going tell you right

now, that doesn't mean we have to extend

the Emmys to a fourth night. All right?

Let them have their own awards. the

phonies.

But this is a big night, folks.

Television isn't made by a handful of

people. It's made by thousands of

talented people solving imposs

impossible problems together to create

something great. So the more excellence

there is to recognize, the more time we

should spend celebrating it.

through every challenge and change,

we've never lost what brought us here in

Writers can all agree on one thing.

Writing sucks. No, literally, it's

awful. There is nothing like opening

your laptop to a blank page and staring

at it and thinking, you know, if I don't

come up with something funny today, my

house will be foreclosed on. This is

fun.

And every writer has their process, you

know, to really get the creative juices

flowing. I've heard some writers like to

start their days with a little cocktail

of six Coke Zeros, two menthol

cigarettes, and 10 milligrams of

absolutely prescribed aderall.

This inevitably leads to a full crash

out, taking a very lengthy nap, and

waking up to your spouse saying, "Hey

honey, it's 8:00 p.m. Did you write

anything today?" In which the writer

replies, "Yeah, an email to my attorney.

I want a divorce, Mark." Whoa. Um, I'm

so sorry. That took a really dark turn.

[laughter] That was weird. Who wrote

this? I did. That's right. I'm not just

Miss Piggy's doppelganger. Oh, no. I'm a

writer. And so are the nominees for

Good evening everyone. It's an honor to

be here tonight on the night of the 2026

Emmy Awards.

This year there is so much television

worthy of celebration. On behalf of the

academy, I want to thank all of you for

all your hard work and dedication, your

brilliance and creativity that makes

these shows we all love possible. And I

have to say uh this night of the Emmys,

the variety, non-fiction and reality

night has always been especially

meaningful to me. You see, because

reality is a genre where I built my

career. I started out working for Bua

Murray, working for John Murray and the

late Mary Alice Buunham

who famously asked the qu simple

question, what happens when people stop

being polite and start getting real?

Turns out that question would help

change television forever. It's pretty

remarkable when you think about where we

as a genre came from and where we are

today. I don't think any of us could

have have imagined how much reality

television would end up shaping both our

industry and our culture or where so

many of the people who started out

making uh making it would end up today.

People who came up in reality television

are running networks, leading studios

and shaping the future of entertainment.

And I have Yes.

[applause]

And I have to admit, it means a lot to

me that one of those people somehow

ended up here as a chair of the

television academy.

[applause and cheering]

We once fought for the for what we once

fought for are driving massive

audiences, building global franchises,

and yes, even headlining earnings calls.

I'm proud to be a part of this genre and

even prouder to be here to help

celebrate a truly historic achievement

in television. not only for a single

show but for our entire industry and

that's 25 years of big brother I got to

know yes I got to know Allison Grodner

and Rich Mian who have been at the heart

of the show from the beginning when it

was at when I was at Endam Shine what

they have done with this show is

incredibly rare they have kept big

brother relevant without ever losing

sight of what drew viewers to it in the

first place I couldn't let this moment

pass without recognizing them for

everything they have done for their show

and for our genre. And of course,

through it all, there has been one

constant connection point for fans. One

point of entry, the person who has

welcomed us into that house from the

very beginning and who knows better than

anyone what this show means to the

millions of fans around the world.

Please welcome the iconic host of Big

Brother, Julie Chen Moonz.

Wow, Jimmy Kimmel's here. I'm a little

nervous suddenly. Oh, and Eugene Le.

Okay, stick to the copy. A group of

strangers live together with no contact

with the outside world. their every move

captured 247 by 112 cameras and 113

microphones as they compete for

$750,000.

What could possibly go wrong? The first

time I heard about Big Brother 26 years

ago, I had no idea what to expect. Since

then, I have come to expect

the unexpected.

Who knew we would end up becoming one of

the original gangsters of reality TV?

Thank you. Thank you. And under the

leadership of our incredible executive

producers Allison Grodner and Rich Mian

helped define this now oh so prevalent

and dominant genre. They turned a social

experiment into a game being a fly on

the wall into entertainment. and they

invited viewers to be part of the whole

experience. Tonight, as we celebrate a

tremendous year of television, Big

Brother celebrates a huge milestone.

Last week, we became the first prime

time series in the world to reach 1,000

original episodes.

And we were even recognized with a

Guinness World Record title.

Thanks. For nearly three decades, Big

Brother has had nearly 400 house guests,

almost as many evictions, countless

blind sides, vetos, showmances, and

enough slop to feed every survivor ever

voted off the island, and every amazing

racer running around the world. We've

hosted fake funerals, marriage

proposals, disastrous birthday parties,

coupetatas, and even a bald,

angry,

rude

robot.

Zing. And as host since the very first

episode, I can truly say it has been an

unpredictably,

chaotically fun e ride. If you know what

that means, you know what that means.

since you're of a certain age. So to my

Big Brother family, congratulations.

Here's to another thousand episodes

where we should all expect the

unexpected but ultimately love one

another. And speaking of the unexpected,

our next category celebrates the shows
