I am so honored to be your host tonight.

The Emmys are celebrating their 78th year,

and NBC is celebrating its 100th year,

and I have been on Law and Order SVU for all of them.

I am so incredibly proud to be the first woman to host the Emmys.

In 15 years!

Guys, imagine that!

For 15 straight years, Amy and Tina said no.

So I'm not gonna lie, I'm not gonna lie,

it's a lot of pressure, but it is so reassuring

to see so many familiar faces out there, and I'm just

talking about how many of you I've arrested on SVU.

You guys have done some unspeakable things.

I'm talking to you, Martin Short.

You should be ashamed of yourself, my friend.

And I couldn't do any of this

without thanking the genius behind SVU, the legendary Dick Wolf.

Who has created over 40 shows,

13 of which are on the air right now.

And I gotta say, you know, over the years,

there have been a lot of jokes about his name, which is so unfair,

because Dick Wolf isn't even his real name.

His real name is Richard Peanuts.

We have incredible nominees tonight.

Some new shows that are here for the first time,

and others that are celebrating their series.

I'm sorry, guys.

It's just that I never had one.

So, okay.

So, when I was decided to post the Emmys, I consistently got two pieces of advice.

Number one, don't do it.

And number two, whatever you do,

don't go for sincerity.

I clearly ignored the first,

so please join me as I ignore the second.

I am truly deeply moved,

and so incredibly grateful to be in a room

full of people who have dedicated their lives to telling stories.

Since the beginning of time,

humans have all gathered around the light to tell stories.

Back then, it was the fire in the cave, and now it's the screen of your choice.

But no matter how we watch, and even though we're worlds apart,

we're all still holding a bit of that communal light.

And at the end of the day, we come to TV for magic to laugh,

to cry, to care,

because we need that.

All of us, that indescribable feeling

that we get when the lights begin to dim, dazzling

images on the silver screen, sound that I can feel.

No, Murray Scott, come on.

What? Yes.

Mine. That's my bid.

You can't do that.

What? No. No, Nicole, I'm not.

Somehow, heartbreak feels good.

No, no.

In a place like that.

No, no, come on.

That's my line. That is actually my line.

the forces of darkness,

and then she falls in love with the vampire with a soul,

carrying around a couple hundred years of regret.

Much, much older vampire with a soul, and agonizing remorse about his past.

For those of you who don't know,

his character was 241 years old.

So, uh, may December romance?

Or, like, a May December 1787 romance?

Sarah, I almost thought that Buffy and Angel would end up together.

Well, I guess we won't find out.

David and I would like to acknowledge that it has been a tough two years

for our beloved casting crew, and we feel very lucky

to have known and worked with such amazing people.

We were guided so beautifully by Antonio Campos, but certainly lead,

fallaciously, fiercely, fervently, by the incredible clear names.

But let's talk about these bros tonight.

These sweat hogs.

Some of the men in this category do method

acting and some do regular, less annoying acting.

But no matter what, when these fellows hit their mark, they know all their lives.

Why?

Because they started looking at their sides earlier that morning.

These men, excuse me.

These men give it all in every single take, unless the coverage

is on the other actor and then they might bounce early.

But that's okay.

And they can play anything these nominees.

Not just doctors.

They can play a cop or an FBI agent or a secret agent.

And then that's it.

No other examples.

I believe it was DJ Khaled who said,

"Real men don't go down."

But these nominees know that that is BS.

There's often less pressure on them if they do that first.

You know, I was shooting down Barham last night at 90 miles an hour,

and I was reminded of something I read in actor Frank Vincent's 2006 book,

a guy's guide to being a man's man.

And I do want to note this copy is from the Glendale Public Library.

If you don't mind, I'd like to read a passage

from the book right now,

and then in a minute we'll get to this.

But tonight, we also want to single out an extraordinary individual

whose contributions go far beyond his television credits.

A man whose deeds and actions has had a lasting impact on

society, a dear, dear friend of mine, who I had the pleasure of

working with on the good wife, Michael J. Fox.

The honor that Michael is receiving tonight, the Bob Hope Humanitarian

Award, was created in 2002 by the Television Academy as a way to

honor those artists whose philanthropy exemplifies Bob Hope's altruism.

This year, marks only the sixth time it has been bestowed.

And I can think of no one more deserving of it than Michael.

And proud son of Canada, he has become one of the biggest stars in the world.

I'm here.

I'm cool.

I'm a happening fool.

Winning Emmy's for his role in family ties.

Spin city and rescue me, appearing in a clean

series like shrinking and curb your enthusiasm.

Oh, thanks.

Oh, Jesus Christ!

Could you shake that upon purpose?

He has created an enduring legacy defined by his talent on

screen, his courage in facing Parkinson's

disease, and his commitment to finding a cure.

As I began to understand what research my promise for the

future, I became hopeful that I would not face the terrible

suffering so many of the Parkinson's endure.

But I was shocked and frustrated to learn the amount

of funding for Parkinson's research is so meager.

In 2000, he created the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which

took a different approach, acting with urgency to ensure the

fastest possible impact, taking risks to push forward the most promising treatments.

And in the past quarter century, the foundation has raised

more than $3 billion, becoming the world's largest

nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research, while

never losing sight of its north star, finding a cure.

And in Michael's words, going out of business.

It made a lot of difference in the lives of patients and

giving them an outlet for their frustration and

their ambition and their aspiration and their hope.

And that's not so likely gladly.

Continuing to work in series after series, Michael J.

Fox has taught us all how to fight and how to live.

Way in for Parkinson's.

You just heard that.

On screen, he has brought us joy.

And with his foundation, he has given hope to millions around the world.

On behalf of the Television Academy, we are honored to

present the 2026 Bob Hope Humanitarian Award to Michael

J. Fox.

I understood that accepting Parkinson's didn't mean I had to.

Surrender to it.

I had just been doing what I could for everyone to live in with.

This disease.

So I set up to advocate for patients' needs and raise money.

And to develop a storage of cure.

I found a brilliant-- I found brilliant people to lead the extraordinary movement.

I found brilliant people to lead the effort for me and

vowed to fund the best science in the world.

I'm proud of the progress we've made to benefit Parkinson's patients and families.

But we move closer to this eradicating this disease forever.

I'm deeply grateful to our staff, donors, researchers,

and most of all the patient community to make our work in Michael D.

Fox Foundation possible.

So just to shout out to Debbie Brooks is over there with my family.

with Dolly in a film called Still Magnolia's.

And over the years, I never stopped loving her, though we lived very far apart.

I adored her from day one.

How could you not?

She was genuine and humble, supportive, and blisteringly funny.

With a body sense of humor that would send any rude guy looking for a place to hide.

I couldn't see, then, what a real giant Dolly was.

Not just as an artist.

But as a human.

She was a humanitarian whose contributions had made a profound

difference in the lives of so many in her home

state of Tennessee and across our country.

God bless you, Dolly Parton, my friend.

I am not the only one on Earth that will love you forever and ever.

I'm very very proud of that.

I had the kind of parents that I did and grew up in the

smoking mountains, the Appalachian Mountains.

She was my mom.

But like a good mom, she always showed up when I asked her to

because that was Catherine.

That's what she did.

And this is the best that we can do for her tonight.

So she may have forgotten me twice.

But we will always remember her.

Catherine's laugh was a perpetual yes and it challenged anyone who

heard it to join in and be as delighted as she was.

And she spread that delight everywhere.

After we lost Catherine, I was passed a note on

an air Canada flight that said she was so special.

I hope you're doing OK.

On a drive-up north, I was hugged by an extremely gruff-looking

gas station attendant who was also breathing her loss.

While buying wine at the LCBO, I was treated to a very lively

Catherine mashup, which was a woman saying, new day that was the baby.

Well, doing what I can only assume was her was Catherine's

exquisite hobble from best-in-show.

These are only a very few of the interactions I've been lucky

enough to have that remind me how profoundly Catherine has

impacted the world.

And it's because she bought a story.

The greatest lesson I learned from Catherine both

professionally and personally was to always say yes.

Say yes to her instincts.

All of them as radical as they may sometimes seem.

She is miles ahead of you, and you will learn to catch up.

Say yes to helping her build a TV character over the age

of 60 that wears leather mini skirts and eight-inch

heels and speaks in a strange, sometimes unintelligible transatlantic accent.

And know that she will not scare an audience away.

Say yes to that rewrite she emails you sometimes the night before.

You're Dan, some thoughts.

It will always improve the story.

Say yes to the concept of a wig wall.

Say yes to her asking to wear a wig as a hat.

Say yes to her naming that wig.

Say yes to giving her space to experiment and create.

It will amaze you on a daily basis, and it will change your life.

Say yes to her dinner invites and her stories and her wisdom

and her generosity.

Those are the things you will hold on to the tightest.

Always say yes to any opportunity to revel in the presence

of greatness.

Tonight alongside Noah Kahn, we honor all

of the industry greatness we lost this year.

So for over a thousand episodes of television,

the Great James Burroughs, the standard of comedy directing

that will be cherished and studied for generations to come.

And sadly, last year, we lost another cherished legend.

Our beloved Meathead, Rod Reiner.

Last week, Robbie won an Emmy for guest actor in a

comedy series for his beautiful work on the bear.

And he now holds the record of 48 years for the longest gap

between acting Emmys, which was previously

held by his father, Carl Reiner, at 37 years.

He was generous and kind, and to fund his help,

and a friend to all, we all miss Rob and Michelle, and all those we lost this year.

Like so many of us, I grew up wanting to be the characters that I saw on TV.

I wanted to be Speed Racer.

I wanted to be Wonder Woman.

And of course, as I got older, I had to come to terms

with the fact that I would simply never have the figure to play Columbo.

In 1976, the world was introduced to Charlie's Angels.

Three beautiful, badass, secret agents who broke the mold

one mission at a time.

I was obsessed and so was the world.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of their debut season,

please welcome the cast of Charlie's Angels, Jacqueline Smith,

Cheryl Ad, and three-time Emmy nominee, Kate Jackson.

And I know it's not just our show.

I know your shows are the same.

You feel the same way about your people,

because we are so blessed to live in this

community where we have the best part of this job

is the people we get to work with every day.

We've always tried to be really authentic and tell stories

about the real-life heroes and the emergency

department who are there for us day in, day out.

And we just want to shine the light on them.

Yes, their stories can be frustrating and heartbreaking,

but they also can be so inspirational and healing.

And yes, we are entertainers.

We make you laugh, we make you cry.

Occasionally, we make you look away and disgust.

But when I look around this room, I think something more important than the awards

and the ratings, I see that a whole community is still trying to do the right thing.

It is so hard to tell what is real and what

we can believe anymore, which makes telling honest stories

about real human struggles so much more important than ever.

What you do is it changes people's lives.

And I am just so happy that we can get to do that because it's

so difficult to know what to believe anymore.

And so when the last bastion of reality is in our shared collective fiction,

that makes what you do so much more important.

People need to know the truth.

And we need to continue to tell them that in whatever way

we can and whatever form we can because at the end of the day,

we think sometimes it's only the storytelling that

allows us to understand and appreciate each other.

And that's more important than ever.

So keep doing what you do.
