WIND WHISTLES

What would you do if civilisation came to an end?

In a radical experiment...

Hello?

Is anybody there?

...16 ordinary men and women are about to find out.

I can't believe that we're doing this.

Cooee! Oh, my God!

They must survive for 28 days...

...in a familiar world...

...changed beyond all recognition.

This looks like a level from Grand Theft Auto.

They will live in this abandoned American town...

...used to train the military...

...in urban warfare.

Good morning, Vietnam.

They'll enter as two separate groups,

each unaware of the other's existence.

Wait. Who is that?

First contact.

Oh, my God!

They've got baseball bats. These guys are not joking.

Survival of the fittest.

How will they cope in a battle for scarce resources?

Been ransacked.

If you take, you die.

They're coming over the wall! Argh!

Oh! Ugh...

You OK?

THEY SCREAM Oh!

Can they rebuild society from scratch...

♪ I've got a goat! ♪

This is a huge deal.

Oh, my God.

...without any of the essentials of modern life?

No light, no food, no phone, no nothing. That's it.

OK.

I think they just kissed!

FLAMES ROAR

16 strangers...

Ha!

Guys!

I love when boys fight over me.

Honestly, I like a bit of war.

GUN COCKS We're desperate.

GUNSHOT ...one mission...

That's war. Ah...

THEY SHOUT

...to make it through...

Guys, come on!

...the Apocalypse.

Help! I'm locked in!

MAN SCREAMS

WIND HOWLS

PANTING

Dean!

I never thought I would be stealing from another group of people

trying to survive in the apocalypse.

Let's go.

We do this with precision. We're in, out, gone.

Open your bag, ready to stuff stuff in.

THEY BREATHE HEAVILY

Ah! They've got so much food.

Baked beans. Spam.

METALLIC CLANG

Did you hear...? Sh!

CLANGING CONTINUES

Grab something. Hello?

Sh, sh, sh.

No...

Where's Dean?

What the...?!

Bloody hell. Christ. Bleak.

Seven complete strangers have been dropped on the outskirts

of an urban wasteland with nothing but each other to rely on.

Oh... What's your name?

Ioan. Farmer. Are you?

I farm sheep, like every other Welsh farmer in the world.

Well, in Wales, obviously.

I'm 6'3". I'm quite a big bloke.

But I am the biggest pussycat you will ever meet.

I've never been in a situation that I've had to... survive.

I've sat in the tractor for ten hours

without a bottle of water once.

Does that count as having to survive?

This is crazy.

The group are approaching from the western side of town,

through its industrial outskirts,

close to an abandoned railway station.

The survivors must live for 28 days

without running water, heat or electricity,

and they must find all their own food.

I'm Brooke. I'm a London Black cab driver.

Who's the most famous person you've had in your cab?

Let's go from the last person, which was Kate Winslet.

A black cab driver can absolutely

survive the end of the world.

You've really got to stand your ground on a daily basis.

We've got wars going on all over the place, climate change.

And I feel like there's a massive heaviness in the air at the minute.

You know, it's up to us to be prepared.

I'm actually really looking forward to being a part of a team.

I think it'll be all right. SHE LAUGHS

But it'll be interesting to see.

I think we've only got about an hour before the sun goes down.

The thousand-acre site was once a working town,

based around a large mental health asylum.

When the whole settlement was abandoned,

it was taken over by the US military

to train for disaster and conflict scenarios.

We need to try and find a building cos it's getting dark.

Hmm. There's definitely a little bit of time pressure

that we're facing at the moment, but, um, that's when people thrive.

I think the apocalypse is kind of like boarding school,

just a load of people thrown together

under awful circumstances.

You know, world news is getting pretty scary.

An apocalyptic scenario probably isn't as far off as we think.

The reality of it is,

is that we'll probably be surviving in cities.

I hope I'd be useful, cos I think quite unconventionally.

It's important to be prepared for these things.

Kind of like a Boy Scout.

With only 45 minutes of daylight left

and temperatures dropping below zero,

the survivors must prioritise finding shelter.

I think explore, like, a little radius.

Do you know what I mean?

What is that? Is that train tracks, then, there?

Um...

Why don't we go in the train? Here we go.

There are enough resources in the ruins of the town

for them to survive for 28 days.

But the group must scavenge and find them.

Ah, look, look, look!

We've found some clothes.

No!

We'll throw them out to you like bread in Revolutionary France.

BEEPING

That's my leg beeping, if anybody wonders.

I'm a mother of three. Ex-Paralympian.

People would describe me as loud,

bossy, but kind.

Someone who wants to do something

and has to get it done straight away.

Having one leg, I've just sort learnt to adapt to my surroundings.

You have to.

I'd never have believed that I'd be a gold medallist.

I'm sure there are things that might be absolutely impossible,

but I think that's what makes a great athlete,

is pushing yourself past a boundary you don't know is possible.

We're running out of time to set up somewhere.

We are running around like headless chooks.

Starting to feel a bit scary, I'm not going to lie.

I'm with a bunch of strangers.

I ain't got a clue who these people are.

CHATTER #S

No light, no food, no phone, no internet, no nothing.

That's it. This is it.

How are you going to see what you're doing? It's actually pitch-black.

Yeah, I can't see much. This is not good.

There's absolutely nothing here.

COYOTE HOWLS

There could be, like, a zebra or a tiger jumping out from somewhere.

I mean, we're in the middle of nowhere.

I'm scared of the dark.

It is pretty dark.

Um... there is a sensor light up here. Yeah?

That's nice!

Oh, my gosh. Oh, wow. Where's that running from, then?

It's got to be battery.

Oh, I just want to... Oh! Yeah, got it.

Oh! Awesome. Off? Off. You got it?

Anyone want anything else while I'm out, or...?

Did it.

Without mains electricity, in an urban environment,

battery power is a precious commodity.

I think it's battery power.

All right, let's just sleep here tonight.

Having lost daylight,

the group have no choice but to sleep in the railway station.

It's freezing. Be nice if there were some blankets. Yeah.

Can I borrow that light for a second over here?

I'm taking the light. Sorry.

No, I'm holding it. I don't want to go without the light.

You can stand right there. I'm not going to take it.

No, you have to share, mate. You have to. You can't just take it.

I want to hold the light, because I don't want to be in the dark.

But you can't just take it when other people need to use it.

Show me where you want me to go to. I can show you.

I don't know. That's why I'm looking.

Look, I'm handling the light. So you need to...

Is that your job? You need to get used to that.

I've been asked to look after the light. By who?

By the team. Oh, have you? Yes. Really?

Yeah. Maybe you should have been listening.

Oh, really? Yep. So everyone voted you?

It's very important to set boundaries from day one.

And I'm not going to put my safety into somebody else's hands.

I'm an alpha male. I'm not a woman.

Oh, I'm joking. I'm a woman. But I have a man's head.

I am a politician and I'm fearless.

I'm six foot without heels, and I normally wear heels,

so I'm definitely... I want to definitely be in your face.

Can we have a little group chat, please?

Yes, of course you can. Let's all discuss something.

Definitely. You can't hoard the light.

That is not your light.

She asked for the light. Everybody has something...

No, we didn't agree you'd just hold on to the light.

I will hold on to the light.

You're not holding on to the light. It is not your light.

Let's just get everyone to sleep. Wow.

It was about who was holding the light.

Oh, are we seven?

It's been a clusterfuck.

If this is what we're like on day one...

...can't wait to see day ten.

COYOTE HOWLS

OWL HOOTS

It's the Northern Lights.

Holy shit.

That is absolutely incredible.

I've never seen that before in my life.

Isn't it insane... Oh, my gosh. ..to see that at the end of the world?

We are at the end of the world! SHE LAUGHS

This is mad.

Looks like a level from Grand Theft Auto.

It's creepy as fuck.

A second group of seven strangers

has arrived on the opposite side of town.

Both groups are unaware of the other's existence.

This place is huge.

I'm not Bear Grylls, right?

I can't, you know,

start a fire in three seconds.

I'm terrified to be away from civilisation.

World War III is way, way closer than people think,

and I want to get ready for it.

I've got my mum's voice in my head.

"You can do it, Stevie."

So what's the plan now, then?

No idea.

Has anyone got, like, specific, like, survival experience?

Like, skills?

I'm Scott, and I'm a cattle farmer. Ooh!

What do you do?

Social media is my job. So I'm a social media content creator.

HE SIGHS

If the world as we know it ended,

I think half the population would die within a month.

No offence if you're sitting on a computer,

but that ain't going to help you.

I've done nearly every single trade there is.

There's great value in that old-school toughness.

There's not enough of it any more.

That's why we're in the shit we're in!

Guys, I reckon we're running out of light.

I'm going for a quick sweep of buildings

just to see if there's anything comfortable for the night.

What? But we're a team.

We need to make a group decision. Yeah.

Yeah. Well, we've got to work together as a community.

As a team? Yeah.

Yeah.

This place is big.

We could literally just designate people to different areas.

If we all just say that collectively,

then that's what we'll do. All right. OK.

SCOTT PUFFS

Um... a bit worried about a few of the group.

Yeah, they've probably never roughed it for a few days.

I'm guessing I'm going to be the one that's telling them what to do

and making shit happen.

Scott, he's, what, had a cattle ranch?

He's probably used to doing what he wants to do.

Definitely.

For tonight... I think just for tonight,

we just need to keep warm and find a shelter.

Come on, let's go. How big is this place?

The group has arrived at the eastern residential side of town...

...a mile away from the others on the west.

Unstable buildings present a threat,

so the East Siders have split up

to hunt for a safe and secure structure to shelter for the night.

"State finals - Friday. Go, Bobcats!"

Is it a school? Yeah, I think so.

The town's school was built

to educate patients of the psychiatric facility.

Ha!

Ooh!

This is so big.

Let's go this way. We've got so much to cover.

Growing up, there was ten of us under one roof.

What's in there?

It was like Shameless on steroids. We put each other through walls,

we chucked each other down the stairs.

But the number one thing is we all stuck together.

Being nice, quick-witted, being able to fight and win arguments

was a lot of the good things that I learned from my family.

It was always us against the world, really.

Look, look, look!

Oh! Oh, my God, a seat!

Think it'll break? Oh, my God. Ah! Oh, no!

You know what? This is so massive.

Cos it's nice and light, isn't it? Yeah. This is an epic find.

I'm sleeping here tonight.

Nearby...

THEY GASP Oh, my God!

...Kiera and Laura...

A grocery shop!

...have made a discovery.

Oh!

It's been 45 minutes and my tanks are low.

Right, this has got a chain on it. Maybe there's a back door.

Surely there's a weak point.

Urgh, there's a bug!

I'm definitely a bit of a princess.

I own it.

I am scared of the end of the world.

Ugh!

I don't have any knowledge on anything survival-y.

I'm not lazy, so I definitely can help.

But I need people around me. If it was just me alone...

...say goodbye to me. SHE LAUGHS

Do you want to get my shoulders?

Go on, queen. Up you get. That's it. Climb up with your feet.

I got you. That's it.

What can you see?

Absolutely nothing. Oh, that was worth it, then!

DISTANT COYOTE HOWLS

With the group reunited,

Louise and Steven show the others their secure shelter for the night -

the school.

To the right. Go right. Jesus Christ, this is a horror film!

Oh, nah... Go on. You're all right. You're all right. It's all right.

How do you turn on the lights?

I don't know. It's really eerie.

I think that this is where they tortured the children of the school,

and then watched it on the video camera.

Oh, fuck right off.

And then the kids had to escape through that little tunnel.

All right.

Yeah, yeah.

He's so smug, it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Oh, it's icy.

We're not going to get a fire going tonight.

I'm worried about, like... You all right?

Yeah, but I'm freezing.

We have not got fire, which means we haven't got light,

means we haven't got safe water, means we can't cook.

Er, and we haven't got food, obviously,

so we're fucked on quite a few fronts.

Night, all. Goodnight, everyone.

SNORING

Oh, my...

Laura!

Laura! Shut up, man.

SNORING CONTINUES

She's like an earthquake.

This might tip me over the edge.

SNORING CONTINUES

OWL HOOTS

Over on the other side of town...

Are you feeling right, Brooke? Last night was horrible. Yeah?

It's like the tiredness...

So what do we think the plan is for today, then?

Yeah, we need to see what's around. Get warm.

...after a night of sub-zero temperatures at the railway station,

the West Side need to find a warmer base.

Laundry.

Yes!

It's already open.

Ah...

It's actually quite warm in here.

The laundry did the washing

for the thousands of patients and staff who lived on site.

Ooh, lovely.

Um... this your first time going through a bin?

THEY LAUGH

We can be safe here for tonight. We can be warm and comfortable.

So what about food? Yeah, exactly.

Let's have a look and see.

Yeah.

With their new base secured,

Celia has urged them to search for food

and a source of safe drinking water.

I think come back an hour.

All right.

I don't know how we're going to measure it, but...

I reckon when your... When you've got a really small shadow.

If the sun's directly above you...

All right. We meet back here at small shadow. Small shadow.

Being so loud, Ioan is in charge.

However, I don't know about his competence.

Right, team, let's split.

I'm really trying not to tell people what to do.

But then it was inevitable it was going to happen.

I'm like a frigging...

...6'3" toddler, aren't I?

When I was 18, my dad got ill.

So he said to me, "You've got to take over the family farm."

I had no interest in farming. Almost had to learn from scratch.

With that comes the responsibility

of having to look after everybody else.

Not just my wife and children, but the entire gang.

So when it comes to doing things,

I just take charge and get on with it.

What's that? It's a service station. I reckon have a look in there.

Mate...

...we've got a map.

Fuck!

I reckon take this back to the gang.

Any shops there? Look.

A convenience store - River Mart. Over there.

Do you think we should go to the mart to look for some food now?

Well, no. We're going back to everybody.

I don't think it's worth us all trekking to the mart.

I want to go there. Is that OK? Yeah, that's fine.

Er, are you happy doing that? Yeah.

Brooke's decided to go straight to the supermarket with Dean.

We're going to find so much food now. Oh, absolutely.

If the group don't eat in the next 24 hours,

their heart rate and blood pressure may drop,

and they won't have the energy to perform simple tasks.

Do you know what?

Looks a bit like Clacton-on-Sea.

Apocalypse-on-Sea. Please join us.

DEAN LAUGHS

I'm a survivor in many ways.

Heartbreak and losing loved ones.

Financial struggles.

There was a time when I lived in a hostel.

At the time, you're like,

"Oh, my God, this is so painful,"

but hard times do shape you.

That's the mart.

Oh... It's blocked off.

Aw, man!

I really want in there.

How are we getting in?

Do we get reinforcements? All right. Let's go. Get everyone.

I'm so hungry.

I mean, I've just been thinking about pie and mash.

We went to the River Mart, yeah? We found it. It's all boarded up.

We're all going to have to go there.

Oh. Yeah, but it's unnecessary energy, I think.

As far as I'm concerned, instead of starting that now,

should we just sort our home base out first?

Do you think? But we're going to go to the mart, right? Ugh...

Do you not hear him?

Um... we need to concentrate on the shit jobs

to make us more comfortable. Yeah.

So... I think we do need to take a minute

and then get the shit jobs out of the way. Oh.

Ioan is being a little bit controlling.

Like, "I'm delegating and you are my little minions."

You know, I've got a banging headache.

Um... I'm hungry.

We are wasting time.

If we don't try and open the mart, what else are we going to eat?

And every time I'm talking, like, Kelly's making a look.

SHE LAUGHS

That doesn't sit well with me.

I think here. That'd be fine.

Is that a good height? Maybe a bit high.

It's morning, and on the East Side of town...

Place that. It's perfect, innit?

...with no sanitation or running water,

Steven and Kiera are forced to build a makeshift toilet.

But I need a shit. All right. You take a shit.

I'm the first one doing a shit.

You better hurry up on that. I'm busting.

Oh...

Right.

I'm going to shut this door.

Not that it's doing much. Privacy!

Right, I'm going to do it.

How's it going?

Oh, my God.

Oh, my God.

Is it happening?

Yeah, it's happening.

SPATTERING

Oh, my God. Are you OK?

Oh, I'm shitting in a bucket and abandoned school!

Does it stink?

Yeah, it stinks. Oh, my God. I should have gone first.

I don't think I can do this.

How long can you, like, not shit before you die?

Right, everyone, let's go get some food.

Having found nothing to eat since they arrived 48 hours ago,

and in urgent need of calories,

Steven is leading the East Side group

to forage in the nearby forest.

We're desperate. We're desperate.

We're starving.

So I think that we go into the woods, collect berries and nuts.

Oh!

You OK? Lou? You all right?

I've smashed my face. Oh, no. Oh, OK.

Look. Look sideways for me. Look sideways.

It's OK. It's not broke? No, it's not broke. You OK? Yeah.

You got your shoes on the wrong feet or something?

Whoo! Here you go, mate.

I'm all right, I'm all right, all right, all right. OK.

The forest. I feel at home. I'm like a little nymph.

A Steven nymph.

And off I go!

Fuck.

I just found some berries, but I don't know if we can eat them.

Let's have a look.

They're poisonous. Obviously you can't eat them.

Well, that's pointless.

I know there's a supermarket. I need to get in that door.

I don't think we're going to get into that.

Whereas out here, we've not tapped into it.

What's the point? Because we need food.

What's the point of just foraging in a forest

that we know fuck all about when we can go to a supermarket?

But you know fuck all about what's behind that door.

Two people can go off and go and smash the door down

while the rest of you can forage.

But that's... The plan was to do that.

OK, shit won't get done unless we go do it.

He's as useful as tits on a bull.

He doesn't like us.

I know the group's a bit upset but, to be honest...

...I'm just going to keep being me.

Not wasting my calories by saying a heap of words to...

...just pat them on the back.

I'm just like, "Bang! No, we're doing this. We do this, we do that."

If they don't like it, they can pull the pin.

Oh!

This is excellent.

It's a bit of eye candy while I wait for them to find the candy.

It's killing me. I'm sweating like crazy...

...but I really need to get in there.

Oh, my God, you got two off layers!

Oh, you ripper! Done.

Oh, my freaking God! Oh, bitch! You!

Holy fuck!

Hey!

Guys, I really hope there's rice.

I feel like I've never been more excited.

After three hours of trying, at the supermarket...

All right, let's do it.

...the East Side survivors have finally broken in.

Oh! It's empty. Ah!

Empty.

Soul-destroying, actually.

Scott?

Yeah, we're getting in there.

Ah!

Rice.

Oh, my God! Yes!

SHE GASPS Oh, I could cry.

Tomatoes! We can have stew, baby!

Oh, my God, yes.

We've got pancake mix as well. Stop it! You ripper!

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

It's given a nice alleviation of that panic

that we don't know when the next meal is coming.

Yes! You guys did amazing.

They've found five days' worth of food -

if they limit themselves to a survival ration

of 800 calories each a day.

I'm actually excited. We've got meals here.

I really wouldn't even touch it. We need to get rationing.

I think we can at least have some rice tonight.

No.

We're not having rice.

If we just have something to fill our tummies tonight...

We're not having fucking rice.

We've got a long haul yet.

No-one's going to agree with you on that. I don't give a fuck.

Trust me, we're going to need this later on.

And if they don't understand that, well, I'll let them starve.

This will be the last bit of food they get.

I'm not going to allow it.

BERTIE SIGHS

OK.

What I'm worried about

is the argument we're now going to have over food. Um...

...and I'm just exhausted. It's just like there's just, um...

Yeah.

Look... Sorry.

HE SNIFFS

Chocks away, chaps. To the mart!

A mile away at the laundry, after 48 hours with no food,

the mood of the West Side survivors is low.

The thing is, morale really quickly drops.

I think everyone is desperate. I'm trying my best.

I want to supply food for us.

Brooke has finally persuaded the others to return to the supermarket.

This one directly in front of us? Yeah.

I really want some rice.

I want a nice, delicious cooked meal.

Oh, my God!

Look!

Someone's already been in here!

Argh!

No way! Are you joking?

Look.

No food. We've made a mistake.

We should have just dropped everything and come to the mart.

Oh, don't. I can't deal.

It's literally all empty.

Honestly, I'm gutted.

I believe, yesterday, this was completely full up.

People have ransacked this.

There are other people.

Oh, my God, we have a spanner in the work.

There are other survivors.

I don't want to see them.

I really don't want to see them.

Are you all right, Celia?

If we're not the only ones here,

what else have they got to that we have found and not got into?

Freddie. What have you got for us?

Er...

We didn't have to break in.

Oh, they didn't have to break in?

The place was completely ransacked.

Ugh! Yeah. Another lot of survivors.

It's actually quite alarming. It is.

It changes everything if there's other people here

that we don't know if we can even trust.

To be honest, I feel like we need to stay in here.

Yeah, pretty scary.

Are we going to make any efforts to find these other people?

I think we're wasting time. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

I reckon we get into any buildings first

to look for food before someone else does. Yes.

That's what I was just about to say.

Yeah. Because if there is anything left, it could get taken.

I think the housing first.

Yeah. There's a lot of stuff back here.

I think we need to do this stuff here first.

I'm going to housing. Brooke, coming to housing? Yeah.

KELLY SCOFFS

Sorry, Kelly, did you say something?

No, I didn't say anything.

What's wrong? Just that everyone's already allocating

themselves to go to places. Well, yeah,

because I'm not going to be told what to do.

I'm not telling you what to do.

I'm not going to be combative with you.

Yeah. Do you know what?

I think we need to come up with a team decision.

Right, so people have got a problem with what they want to do.

That's what we're trying to figure out.

I'm talking. I know it's your personality,

but you just start it like this and it's rude.

I'm hungry. I'm tired. I'm not deliberately being rude.

I think we all need to, like,

take a break right now just to calm down.

We can't allow it to escalate.

Well done, team. Chins up.

Yeah, that's tension.

There's a bunch of personalities running on adrenaline.

I think it's just chalk and cheese.

Now we're just sitting around doing nothing.

It's a waste of time. Definitely.

What are we going to eat?

You check in there. What's in here?

We've not tapped any of this.

After emerging empty-handed from the forest,

Steven leads his foraging party to

an undiscovered area in the north of the town.

A whole new city. This is huge.

I've done that one. What have we got here?

What is this thing?

Oh, that's a bit creepy. What is going on here?

No, I want to go back.

Oh, my God. Kyra!

Steven! Come here!

Oh, I'm coming! Oh, my Christ!

Guys! Oh, my fucking God!

Chickens! There's eggs!

One, two. We've got three eggs.

I don't want to stress them out

so they lay me more eggs, so let's leave them.

Yeah. Good point.

This is like a huge deal.

Can I just leave you with the eggs? Yeah, sure.

Pop them in here.

If I drop this...

Oh, my gosh. I don't think about that, actually,

because that's... I think they might

punch me in the fucking tit.

Oblivious to the other group of survivors,

the East Siders take the eggs, leaving the chickens unguarded.

Oh, eggs.

You know where we found the eggs? With chickens.

No! Two chickens. That's unreal. That's breakfast, guys.

Did you get into the supermarket?

That's my biggest question. I broke into the supermarket, yes.

Yes! Yeah, boy!

Whoa. Three massive tins of tomatoes,

pancake mix, pasta, bag of rice. Oh, rice!

Got some nuts. Whoo! Yes, well done.

Cos we've got eggs and we've got rice,

we could have egg-fried rice.

I don't reckon.

We need to get rationing. Scott, please.

Let's let the group decide what we're doing.

If we eat that stuff, that's a load of calories.

That's what we need, though, innit?

He needs to get it into his head

that we're trying to build a community here.

Boiled... Poached egg for breakfast. No, no, no.

Fuck.

If Scott continues to be this hard-headed,

it's going to blow up.

Kiera, are you OK?

Yeah.

I expected it to be hard.

I didn't expect to not have any energy.

I underestimated how much we need food to survive.

It's miserable.

I just feel like my body's shutting down.

We get five peanuts for breakfast.

And your raisins.

After three days without food,

the East Siders are lethargic and dizzy,

so Scott's permitted them to eat a small breakfast.

Wow, we're getting spoilt. It's full of calories.

It doesn't matter how you get them.

I think I'm the only one that has really added up the calories

we need to survive.

We don't have enough food, but they've got no idea.

I'm just writing everybody's names on here.

Is that how you spell Rambo? Don't write my name as Rambo.

Kiera, are you feeling better now? Yeah. Good.

Do you want to help me do the shit bucket?

To prevent the risk of disease,

the makeshift toilet must be emptied regularly.

Me and Queen Kiera made the toilet,

and people have been pissing and shitting in the toilet

and it's now full.

So now we've got to find somewhere

to dump all that poop.

Let's do this.

Oh, my God, I can see someone's faeces.

They need an area a safe distance from any human activity.

Oh, my God, I see it moving. Don't look at it. Eurgh!

Don't look at it. If you vomit, I'll vomit.

STEVEN COUGHS It's some piss and shit.

It's some piss and shit!

I have always wanted to know how I would survive in the apocalypse.

SHE COUGHS

But I don't like sweat.

I have, like, a phobia of sweat.

SHE COUGHS

That's like the grossest bodily fluid.

I looked at it, I looked at it.

It's... It's a no from me.

We just need to go to the forest. Over there.

Over there. Oh, there's a hole.

I reckon we just tip it and then run.

But slowly, slowly. HE RETCHES

- No, no, no, no! - Ugh! STEVEN COUGHS

That is vile. Oh!

Is it...? Agh, there's still some in it!

Ugh! Is it dropping in?

Yes, yes, yes, yes. Is it all done? It's done, it's done, it's done.

No, fuck this apocalypse.

What is that on my hand?! Ugh!

I never want to do that again.

Not on your nelly. Not on your mum.

There's nothing more sobering than dumping

someone else's shit and piss down a hole

and having the smell waft up at you.

Ugh, I suddenly don't feel hungry any more.

That was awful. Do you want a hug? No, don't touch me.

Oh! It's a little gecko.

Look at it! Oh, sorry, dude.

I'm going to call him George.

Do you want to say hi? No, thank you.

After the fight with Brooke, I'm not going to dwell on the past.

It doesn't... It doesn't bother me at all.

SHE LAUGHS

There was a lot of tension, but we have to let that go.

After 72 hours with barely anything to eat...

Let's go.

...the West Siders resume their search for supplies.

Just trying to keep a... Oh, my God.

Bill's - that's a bar.

Lads? Lads, there's a bar!

I'm going to run. The girls are happy in that building.

It's not easy to find anything.

Growing up in Nigeria,

I had to carve out my survival, basically.

Hello? I was one of nine, so you have to fight to get a bed.

You have to fight to get clothes.

You have to fight to get a plate of food.

It was horrible, so I had to work out at a very young age

how do you fend for yourself in this... in this lion's den?

What have we actually found?

Nothing.

They've done this up tight, but not tight enough for...

...a little Welsh farmer.

Oh-oh-oh-ah!

Oh, hell, yeah!

Has it been done? Nobody's been in.

HE LAUGHS

That's going straight in my bag.

Useless.

This is a 10/10 find.

We've just found that there are definitely people

somewhere around this vicinity.

We've ransacked every God-given damn place

and there is no food.

How can you function without food?

We're going to carry on pushing the trolley.

Uh, wait. Wait!

The men think we're here to have a party.

Guys, seriously?

Wake the fuck up.

I don't swear, but I've got to swear

because these guys are off their minds.

Have we seen these houses before?

No, but I think we should explore them.

East Siders Kiera and Steven have spotted

an unexplored block of houses in the far east of town.

Can we get in here? Yeah.

Oh, there's a chicken coop.

Are you joking me?

CHICKENS CLUCK

There's three. Wait, so how many chickens

are at the other place? Two.

OK, so we've got five. Five.

We now have five chickens.

Just think, where can we be in the next few weeks?

Will we have a whole farm?

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Chicken dinner!

We're the dream team.

We'll keep them here. Yeah, that's fine.

The East Side have now discovered five chickens.

Steven and Kiera also leave these ones in the coop,

hoping they will lay eggs.

We actually have a substantial amount of food now.

If it was up to me,

I'd eat all of the food that we have and worry about it tomorrow.

And if Scott says, "No, like, we should just not eat,"

I don't want to hear it.

With their supermarket finds and large haul of chickens,

the East Side now have enough food to sustain them for over a week.

We've got three roosters, two chickens.

We've got eggs, we've got these.

Like, I don't really get the idea

that we're starving ourselves.

Collectively, I think we have to agree what we want to do.

It's all our food.

I think we should have something nice.

Do you know what I've got a vision of?

Pasta. Yeah. With those big tins

of chopped tomatoes that were found yesterday.

SCOTT SIGHS

Scott, I know you're about to explode.

I just think we should hold off on the pasta

and the tomato stuff,

until I can get a goat or something like that.

A goat would probably last a couple of days, eating like kings.

But how do you know we're going to get a goat?

If if and buts were coconuts,

we'd all have a great Christmas, wouldn't we? But it's not.

You know what I can't live off of, Scott?

I can't live off of hopes and dreams.

I would like a carb.

Can we do that and the sloppy joe? We're going to have some pasta.

Sloppy joe.

He-Man's out.

The East Siders have voted

to eat their first full meal in four days.

Scott's rationing regime is over.

Let's have a good meal.

And if you all want pancakes for dessert, you can have that.

LAUGHTER

Preparing for another night of sub-zero temperatures,

Freddie is collecting more firewood...

Oh, my goodness!

How have you found that? Trees, mate.

Hundreds of them.

Thousands...

...growing in the forest.

...while Celia has joined Kelly to guard the laundry.

Can I try this drink? It's Ioan's. Excuse me?

She's tasting it. She's tasting it.

Oh, my God.

This is good.

KELLY GASPS

KELLY LAUGHS

Hello. Hello. We missed you guys.

We went through a lot of wood last night. Yeah, we did.

It was cold. How do you think this makes sense,

to keep fetching firewood?

And we're not even warm anyway.

I'm not sure why we're not thinking about food supply.

Are we going to live how many days without eating?

Very good point. Yeah.

And after seeing what happened to the mart,

I don't think we've got time to hang around. To mess around.

I think that's a good idea. This is survival.

We need to start being a bit more aggressive.

The West Siders have decided

to venture out on a night raid to find food,

aware they're not alone.

There's so many unanswered questions.

What have they got? What are their intentions?

Just knowing that there

are other people out there is fucking terrifying.

Any final words of wisdom? Don't die.

OK, let's go. What, now? Now? Now?

The apocalypse is taking us back to that primal human thing of,

we're hungry, they've got a glut of food -

let's grab a bit.

Good luck.

It's not who I was.

Would never have stolen anything,

but now that's the only way to survive.

It's snowing. It's kind of like waving off your children. Yeah.

We'd better find something. Yeah.

Leaving their laundry base

and heading east into unknown territory,

Celia and Brooke make their way

towards the junkyard,

while Ioan, Kelly and Dean target

the houses close to the school,

the East Side's HQ.

Sh, sh, sh, sh!

What is that?

We've got to stay on mission.

Skirting the perimeter of the school,

Ioan takes charge of the group.

Sh.

I am absolutely cacking my pants.

I could walk into any building

and be a foot, two foot away from someone

I don't know who is also trying to survive.

Brooke?

I'm just seeing rubbles everywhere.

I'm seeing cars, derelict buildings.

It's just dangerous.

Sh!

Stick it in! Stick it in!

Stick it in!

We're having the whole box of pasta!

Just 200m from Ioan and his raiding party...

...Bertie is preparing

the East Side's first full meal in days, against Scott's wishes.

Who wants one? Lou wants the first one.

My God, thank you so much.

I'm lost for words. It's great.

LAUGHTER

So great.

Silly, silly, silly.

Outside...

...Ioan, Dean and Kelly are searching the abandoned houses.

Is there anything in this?

Guys, I think it's chickens.

No! I think. I can't see. It's too dark.

Something's in the back there and I can't see.

Can you get...? There's chickens in there.

You can smell them. KELLY GASPS

SHE SQUEALS - Sh, sh, sh, sh! - There's three.

Holy fuck. This could be a game-changer.

Across town, Brooke and Celia have reached the junkyard.

BROOKE GASPS

Chicken! Hello. We've come to see you.

Yeah, we've come to catch you. No, we're not. It's very easy.

I haven't actually caught chickens for years and years.

In Nigeria, we used to catch chickens and eat them.

Hello, chick-chick-chickens! How are we going to take them?

I'll just have to put them in my bag.

CHICKENS CLUCK Sh, sh, sh, sh.

Look, what's the plan? I think get back.

Ohh.

There's a big rock here.

We found the other people and we might have stolen their chickens.

They're going to see you. Right, let's get back.

If them chickens belong to them, they're going to be pissed.

There's someone moving. There's someone looking at us.

They're shining a light right on us. Fucking go!

They're literally watching us.

CHICKENS CLUCK You shush, you shush.

Shush. I will eat you otherwise.

It's so much easier ordering chicken from KFC.

Freddie! Oh, my... You got chickens?!

Guys, we've got chickens!

So have we!

What?! They've got chickens too!

FREDDIE LAUGHS

Two chickens, amazing. Another three chickens, amazing.

I didn't know it could be more exciting

not going on an adventure.

Mate, we saw lights.

Oh! Erm, fuck. Right.

And people living up there.

Other people?

And they might not be happy because we've stolen their chickens.

Yeah. Are you serious?

What do you think they're going to do?

We could find that out pretty quick. Yeah.

Holy fuck.

Overnight, three inches of snow has fallen over the town.

This is kind of wild. I've never experienced this before.

I didn't know that they actually fall like snowflakes,

like the snowflake pattern.

I always just thought that was in movies.

We need to tend to the chickens as well,

make sure they're fed and watered at some point.

Little morning jolly for the team.

Let's go.

It's super important that we look after the chickens.

Chick-chick-chick-chick-chicken!

They're our first livestock.

THEY IMITATE CHICKENS

Uh, where are they?

Oh, fuck off.

They're not in here.

But wait, that was open. We shut that last night.

There has to be other people here.

Well, there has to be.

We need to go and check the other chickens.

It just absolutely blasts everything out the water.

We thought the city was ours to play with, but it's not.

Get the bats! Get the bats!

If they're not here, it's kind of like going back

to square one and then rationing just become a thing again.

Fuck off!

I'm going to smash someone's knees tonight. Mate.

If I find out who took these chickens,

I'm going to burn their fucking house down.

CHICKENS CLUCK

They should have taken the chickens

home to base like we did.

This changes our entire outlook.

I think we've fucked peace.

But they went into the mart first.

Well, they didn't know we exist.

Well, still.

Sharing's caring. They could have left something in the mart for us.

We were just taking our fair share out the mart.

That's right. They have so much stuff.

And we're starving.

We could take their food.

Yeah, absolutely.

What's the worst that could happen?

Following last night's success,

West Siders Ioan and Dean

head out to the East Siders' HQ to steal more of their provisions.

Honestly, my heart is pumping.

I have winged my entire life.

I was a shit kid in school.

I just couldn't deal with, I guess, authority.

I thrive in chaos.

If there's something going on

and it's against what's supposed to be happening,

I've got a big smile on my face.

There's two there clambering around.

He's wearing a baseball cap in the snow. What a dick.

It's fair game. We've all got to survive.

We've created a little family bond

and I'm going to have to do whatever I can

to provide for the family.

We are making sure that nobody gets in.

People might want to come and take this!

Not on my watch.

Our only priority here is to survive.

These people are a threat to our survival.

Hi-yah! Hi-yah!

God, you are strong.

Open your bag ready to stuff stuff in.

No-one wants to be friends with everyone.

I want invasion. I want cold war.

We do this with precision.

We're in, out, gone.

The nice guy always dies in the first scene of the movie.

That's what happens.

Sh, you fucking dick! DEAN LAUGHS

Let's go.

Straight through there. Straight through that door.

I'm going to come in the back.

We've got to keep this fire going.

Obviously, we've got the pallets.

Shit.

There's so much here.

Spam. Baked beans.

I need to find Dean.

METAL CLANGS

Did you hear...? Sh.

CLATTERING

Grab something.

Shit.

You have the baseball bat.

What the...?

Oh, my God.

Someone's came in and stole from us.

It was very aggressive.

We could have just started a war. I like a bit of war.

They've got baseball bats. These guys are not joking.

I don't feel like I'm wanted. I've had enough.

She's undermined every strategy we had.

Brooke needs to be banished.
