This is Pulse.
Here is news editor Scott Schuster.
Good evening. It really was the biggest crowd ever assembled for a single
performance in one place in the entire history of the world. It was tonight,
and it was in Tampa. The name of the group, Led Zeppelin. They've been around
for years, popular with the acid rock crowd, big on album sales. Tonight, they
broke the world record set by the Beatles and Channel 15's John Jones.
Watch what happened.
Led Zeppelin played in Atlanta on the first stop of a nationwide tour, selling
out there 49,239.
That even beat the Beatles record.
When a rock group attains a stature such as Led Zeppelin, they travel with their
own jet, waiting at the airport, two limousines, and a police escort.
Just 40 minutes showtime.
Led Zeppelin arrives here at Tampa Air Center at the Tampa International
Airport.
I'm pleased to say that one of the group's four members has my same name.
That's John Paul Jones, and he's their bass player.
Jimmy Page is the lead guitarist.
Robert Plant, lead singer. He's the one with the long curly hair.
And John Bonham is the drummer.
If you were at Tampa Stadium tonight or anywhere nearby...
That's the sort of thing you saw and heard
In
the
days of my youth I was told what it means to be a man
Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share.
When the woman had told the bride man, but he still don't seem to care.
16, I fell in love with a girl sweet as the bee.
It only took a couple of days before she was rid of me.
She swore that she would be all mine until the end.
But when I whispered in her ear, I said, not a friend.
Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share.
So I've been watching all the scenes again.
Good times, bad times, you know I left my shit.
And what my woman left told her to buy back.
Still don't see today.
Leaves are falling around Time I was on my way
Thanks to you I'm at your by
Such a pleasant stay
Well now it's time for me to go
Oh
I'm with it, babe.
It's getting my way.
Oh, sometimes I get so tired.
Just one thing I want to do.
I've got no time for spreading roots.
Oh, the time has come to be gone.
And though our hearts we drank a thousand times, it's time to
ramble on.
There's a tale that can't be told.
My freedom I hold dear.
Years ago, days ago, when magic filled the air.
I was in the darkest depths of water.
The evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her, yeah.
Oh, there's nothing I can do now.
Oh, there's nothing I can do now.
I'm feeling my mind gone.
But when you walk that way, you'll watch your hunnids drift by and keep a list.
Still I've got a flaming heart I can't get my
But I've been told a big black woman ain't got no
Come my way I need
a girl to hold my hand Don't tell me no lies, make me a happy man
Good evening.
Don't want nobody to know.
All I want you to do is
take my body home.
Well, well, well, so I could die.
Got to make out.
Why don't you meet me in the middle of the air?
If my wings should fail me, Lord, meet
me with another pair.
Well, well, well, so I...
Jesus, I've got to make out.
me down
i never did no wrong i never did no wrong i never did no wrong
i never did no wrong
Never did no wrong.
Never did no wrong.
Never did no wrong.
Oh, I must have did somebody some good.
I never did no wrong.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
I never did no wrong.
I don't know.
And I see them in the street.
And I see them in the field.
And I see them everywhere.
And I know it's got to be.
Oh, somebody help me, please.
Oh, throw the rock at them.
Oh, just remember, baby I just wanna have somebody
Oh, my Jesus.
Oh, my Jesus.
It still feels pretty good up here.
Yes, come on, come on, come on!
Well, thank you for
thousands and thousands of emotions that
we've been going through for the last six weeks together.
We finally get to this point for Armit to bring Jason in.
And the double-braced drum pedal.
This is a first adventure with this song in public.
And she said, don't you want, don't you want to get from there?
I had a plan. I did not plan to try.
and she said i did not mean to
It's who you t-
In 1935 Robert Johnson recorded a song called Terraplane Blues and
it's appeared in a thousand different guises since.
Maybe Johnson got it from somewhere else, I'm sure he did. Everybody nicks
it.
This is the kind of Led Zeppelin Terraplane Blues.
It's called Trampled Underfoot.
I can't stop talking.
Okay, so Terraplane Blues, Robert Johnson, 1936.
This next song has been immortalized by the Staples singers, more
recently by the Blind Boys from Alabama.
And I think we must have heard this from, we were in a church
somewhere in Mississippi in about 1932.
When blind Willie Johnson was just just before he had his first shot
Bye-bye.
nobody's
Don't mean to call.
I'll burn your show with a ping-pong thing on. I'll kick that long line.
It's nobody's fault but mine.
Thank you.
Close the door, bloodline You
know they won't be home tonight
The snow falls hard
So cold.
Walking side by side with death
The devil mocks the Houston
The snow drives back
the foot that's slow
To build a dream for me and you, yeah.
A day to the best when no one comes.
There's no corner.
I don't think that's right
I did what I could. Yes, you know I did.
No, I love you, Mom.
Yes, I love you, baby.
No, I love you, Mama. Yes, I love you, Mom. Yes, I love you, baby.
Mama, since I've been loving you now,
I'm about to love you.
Oh, but I tried.
Oh, yes, I tried.
Oh, yes, I tried.
Oh, mama, I tried. I really tried to do that.
Oh, that's not good.
I made it
to 11 every night.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, now you know. Oh, yes, you know. Why, yes, you know. Yes, I know.
All right, sweet baby.
Yeah, that ain't right.
Baby, since I've been loving you now, I'm about
to lose.
I'm about to lose.
Don't make me cry.
Don't make me cry.
watch them watch watch out oh don't you see the phone baby
I want my back door, hear my back door swear.
I think you got one of them loose angles.
A back door man, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've been awake, I've been awake, I've been awake and I'm safe, I'm safe.
Ooh, it's 11 every night.
Oh, he's been talking to you?
It's quite peculiar to imagine, I don't know how many songs we recorded
together, but to think about creating a dynamic evening,
choosing something from ten different albums, there are certain songs that
have to be there.
And this is one of them.
so long as not true i wanted a woman i never bargained
for you lots of people talking few of them know
Sweet little baby,
I want you
I tried to love you baby, but you pushed me away.
Sweet little baby, let them say what
It is too confused Lots
of
people lots of people talking about how pretty few they know
Jimmy Page!
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold.
And she's buying the stairway to heaven.
When she gets there, she knows that the store's all closed.
With a word, she can get what she came for.
And she's by a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall But she wants
to be sure Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird that sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are
misgiven Don't you know now?
makes me wonder
there's
a feeling again when i look to the west and my spirit
is crying for leaving and my thoughts I've
seen rings of smoke through the trees and the voices of
those who still look
oh
and it makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon, if we all come true, then the
Bible will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long,
and the forests will echo with laughter.
It makes me wonder.
If there's a bustle in your head, don't be alarmed now.
There's a spring clean for the bank queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can't go by, but in the long run,
there's still time to change the road you're on.
makes me wonder oh
your
head is
hanging and it won't go but you don't know the piper's calling you to
join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know a stairway lies on the woods?
that stairway to heaven.
Hey Ahmed!
We did it!
I had a dream.
Oh, no.
Crazy dream.
Oh, no.
Anything I wanted to know.
Any place I needed to go.
my song so people won't you listen now
sing along yeah you don't know
what you're missing now any little song that you know everything
that's mine
The sun remains the same.
city life once so bright as we go flying and flying
flying and flying and flying
Spectacular! Now, Jason has... I remember...
I can't even remember how long ago it was, but when Jason was like this big,
his mom and his dad used to sing.
They were the best Jimi Hendrix impersonators in the whole of
Worcestershire. And Pat's got a great voice.
I remember John used to be in a band in Birmingham and used to sing The Wind
Cries Mary about 400 times a night.
That was how it was.
And Jason's a pretty cool singer too.
So I'd like to feature Jason on vocals here now.
Just another day, baby.
What time it was.
So I asked him if I could.
said a policeman got caught to the ice and he said, please, hey, when we get...
So I'm getting like...
Man, this is Staple G.
And have some fun.
Whoa.
This isn't his fridge.
Well, I'll crack five.
to take a good look at yourself and describe what you see.
Baby, baby, baby, do you like it?
J-U-6, it is spent like a book on a shelf, rusted.
coming now
See what I'm gonna do.
Where the spirits go.
Oh, watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out.
Stars do my dream.
I'm a traveler of both time and space.
Be what I'll be.
Sit with arrogance, I'll be generated.
World will succeed.
A couple of days, but which days did it wait?
All will be revealed.
We're talking songs for dogs, a little thing great.
Sounds caress my ear.
No matter what I heard, could I relate?
The story was quite clear.
Bye. Bye.
The sea turns to brown
As
the sun burns the ground
And
my eyes fill with sand
my shame will lie beneath the summer moon
oh father of the forest in my state across the
sea of years
from this side but an open place for the sex of being
Oh you know it! You know it!
Mama, you need love.
I pray that you need love.
Thank you for coming along.
And thank you to everybody who's made this show possible.
And to all our friends who came along to play on this show tonight for the memory
of Armit Ertegun in the days when Atlantic Records was the most
magnificent record company on the planet. Good night.
Hey, thanks so much. It's really been an amazing night for all of us. Thank you
very much.
Oh yeah?
So move it, kid!
