in this video you will learn how to

create a braid like this in blender

blender version 2.7 8c is being used

while creating this video let's start by

deleting everything press a key once or

twice to select everything and press X

and enter to delete them expand this

right side panel to unhide some of the

features go to the scene icon and under

the units section set lengths to metric

go to the create menu and add a plane

rotate it on the x-axis by pressing R X

90 and enter press 1 on the number pad

for the front view and 5 for the

orthographic view move this plane little

bit up by pressing G Z 1 and enter zoom

it in by mouse wheel up and pan the view

to the center by Shift + middle mouse

button press tab to enter to the edit

mode press W key on the keyboard and

click on subdivide come down here and

increase this number of cuts value up to

5 now come here and activate this face

select tool select the top left face

right-clicking on it press and hold the

shift button on the keyboard and click

on all the faces 1 step right and one

step down like this once you are done go

to this select menu and click on inverse

now press X key on the keyboard and

click on faces to delete them

now come down here and click on this

edge select tool to activate it remember

that we are going to extract three edge

loop from this mesh select the top edge

right clicking on it press and hold the

shift button on the keyboard and right

click on entire edge loop like this

change the direction of edge only if

there is nowhere to go after selecting

edge loop press P key on the keyboard

and click on selection that will

separate the edge from the main object

now select the top left edge

right-clicking on it press and hold the

shift button on the keyboard and right

click on entire edge loop like this

after selecting edge loop press P key on

the keyboard and click on selection to

separate the edge loop now select the

top center vertical edge right-clicking

on it

press and hold the shift button on the

keyboard and right click on entire edge

loop like this after selecting edge loop

press P key on the keyboard and click on

selection to separate the edge loop now

press tap to return to the object mode

now press a key on the keyboard to

deselect everything now right-click on

this part of the object to select it and

press x and enter to delete it now we

have three separate edges

now press three on the number pad for

the right side view

now zoom it in until the one grid on the

background is equal to one centimeter

now select any one edge right-clicking

on it don't forget to press and hold the

ctrl key on the keyboard and pull the

green arrow one step to the right

again select the one edge from the left

don't forget to press and hold the ctrl

key on the keyboard and pull the green

arrow one step to the left now press and

hold the shift key on the keyboard and

select all the edges right-clicking on

them and press ctrl + J keys to join

them now press 1 on the number pad for

the front view and zoom out by mouse

wheel down

tap to enter to the edit mode and come

down here and click on this vertex

select tool to activate it notice

carefully that there are two lines of

vertices intersecting each other now

rotate the view with middle mouse button

zoom in to find the vertices on

horizontal line

now select all the horizontal vertices

on the top line while pressing Shift key

on the keyboard once you are done

selecting top line of horizontal path

vertices press three on the number pad

for the right side view zoom the view

until one grid equals to ten centimeters

press and hold the control key on the

keyboard and pull this green arrow three

steps to the right now rotate the view

with middle mouse button zoom in to find

the vertices on horizontal line press a

key once or twice to deselect everything

now select all the horizontal vertices

on the bottom line while pressing Shift

key on the keyboard once you are done

selecting bottom line of horizontal path

vertices press three on the number pad

for the right side view zoom the view

until one grid equals to ten centimeters

now press and hold the ctrl key on the

keyboard and pull this green arrow three

steps to the left now rotate the view

until you can see this wireframe braid

easily press tab to return back to the

object mode go to this modifier icon

click on add modifier and click on this

subdivision surface modifier now press

alt + C keys on the keyboard and click

on curve from mesh text now go back to

the create menu and under the curve

section add a circle

now right mouse click on this braid to

select it go to this curve object data

icon under the bevel object click on

this little cube icon and select Bezier

circle now come back here and select the

circle right-clicking on it now press S

key on the keyboard and move mouse

inward to scale the circle down once you

are happy with the size and shape abrade

left click to confirm now select the

braid right clicking on it go to the

Tools menu under the shading option

click on smooth if you want better

result you can add subdivision surface

modifier once again if you don't want

any further changes in braid in the

future you can convert it into mesh to

do that make sure that the braid is

still selected press Alt + C keys on the

keyboard and click on mesh from curve

meta serve text now select this little

circle once again and you can delete it

by pressing X and enter and this was the
