All language subtitles for Water Volleyball

Our next event is going to be wet and
wild.

It's called water volleyball.

Each team tries to score points by using
water hoses like this.

And then they try and drive the ball out
of one end of the court or the other.

And the team with the most points wins.

Right, Chuck?

You're right, Pat. Why the umbrella?

Are you kidding?

I don't want to get messed up. Oh,
you're no dummy.

Okay, Scotty, beam me up.

My gosh, what happened to you? You know
Jack Frost.

What do you think happened to me?

Well, listen, I came to tell you
something. We've got some serious news.

You know, we had an injury in the broad
slide event.

Linda Wiesmeyer was hurt, and the
paramedics have decided it's best if she

not go on with the rest of the games.

I'll offer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
I'll let her know that. Okay.

Yes, not the problem.

But in the meantime, lest we be one
woman short, we do have...

Someone to fill in for her, we have Miss
March 1984, Donna Spear. So I'd like you

to meet both of you. How are you?

Tell me a little bit about the injury.

Well, at first I lost my wind, and that
hurt, and then I jabbed my elbow into my

rib, and I think I have a bruised rib or
something. It seems like, do you have a

mark or anything from this? It seemed
like paramedics were, oh, my God.

This girl will never drown.

She will always fly.

Even though you're not going to be
competing, you're going to be there

urging your team on, I'm sure. And what
about your injury?

Not yet.

We're nice enough to have Donna here
today. Well, Donna, you've kind of come

in under the gun because your team is
now two events down.

Yeah, well, we're going to pull double
strong today and see if we can pull them

off four bucks.

As a favor to me, injure your ass, okay?

These guys are terrible. Get out of

Back looks like the girls, Vicki, are
all getting the temperature adjusted

with the water.

Glad I didn't have to go through that
part. I got out of there just in time. I

know. That water's cold, too.

It's very cold. Thank God it's a nice
warm day.

I know. We always have a backup player,
by the way, in case anyone's hurt. Look

at Linda there, hosing her down even
though she's not competing.

Just for fun. Ready to go, and they're
off.

The object of this game, obviously, is
to get your ball off of the net.

On to the other's turf, and that's you
done by the use of hoses.

You know, this is one of those events
where it doesn't really matter how tall

the girls are or how fast they are.

It's really the concentration. It's
almost, well, if I may say, lessons in

physics. They're placing the water just
in the right place to get the maximum

force to not only push their own ball,
but to repel the other team's ball.

And looking good while they're doing it.
There's Liz and Kim offering a little

advice from the sidelines.

Well, it looks like the Blues are just
about to make a...

A run on the Reds. The Reds got one
over.

They snuck it by. That happens real
quick. You have to be very careful.

Now, Hope seems a little upset about
something here.

I don't know if this is poor
sportsmanship or if she has a valid

complaint. Maybe her water pressure's
up.

Her blood pressure definitely is. That's
right.

The Reds don't care. They'll take any
victory they can get at this point. I'm

going to crank them up and go at it
again.

It's like the red team already has a
jump on them again. See, I think they

just seem to understand how to best aim
their water.

Oh, they're trying. They're trying.

It's like volleyball once it gets off
the net.

That happened to the other ball.

Oh, look at that.

Red's got two.

Oh, they're nailing them.

And everybody's wet.

I don't have to interview after this, do
I?

Well, it's going to be a surprise. We're
not going to tell you for a little

while, Chuck.

And a third time up.

Kim Evenson is a little upset.

Apparently she got water in the eyes,
and it looks like it kind of made

mascara or something run.

It might have burned a little bit. You
know, those things are pointed straight

up. I don't see how they could possibly
hit each other.

Maybe a tactic would be interesting,
wouldn't it?

Injure the other team.

Looks like I'd just be a stalemate, but
then it changes so quickly. Once the

water pressure's out of the ball, it
flies. Look at Lourdes. Boy, is that

concentration.

I don't know what made me ask this, but
have you ever seen a wet T-shirt contest

before? Yes, I have.

And they're fine.

Oh, no.

Red almost got again.

See what happens as they lose it,
though. They take the concentration.

Blue got one by him. Good.

They're just going on.

I think they'd stay there the better
part of their adult lives.

Of course, they've got netting over the
top, so it can't fly out the top.

Lourdes and Debbie concentrating.

The determination here is amazing.

LAPD, I'd love to have these girls.

Kim Herron is in the backfield for the
blue team where she really exercises her

beach volleyball skills because she's
got to pound that ball back in with her

fist when it comes her way. And it's got
to be between the top net and the bottom

net in the overhead.

Here's our new entry. That's right,
Debbie Spear.

Donna Spear. Oh,

it's close again. It's close again.

They got it again. Those reds did it
again.

Now that's a fan.

They're still at it. The Blues just got
one off.

What's the score?

Oh, they have favorites here. It looks
like Debbie Johnson had a special fan.

I'm sure glad we got referees because I
can tell what's happening at this point.

Can you? I have no idea.

This looks like a lot of fun.

It looks like hard work to me for some
reason. That ball just seems so hard to

manage.

But Donna Spiro looks like a good
athlete. She's going to be a good asset

for the red team.

I don't know whether anybody's paying
any attention to the balls or not. I

think most people are watching the
girls.

I hope there are enough blow dryers in
the bathhouse for after this event.

I think even the audience is wet at this
point.

The blue team's almost got one going
over.

Well, they can't make any headway,
though. The red team got this one down.

Now, I'm starting to see a strategy
here, that the red team has the smaller

girls holding the hoses and the taller
girls in the back.

Yeah, trying to push it up another yard,
trying to get away from them, and that's

one for the blue.

And that's the end of the event.

What a relief for them.

Yes.

I'll step out here and talk to them.

Somebody take the phone.

She wants to talk to a referee. We got a
protest right off the top here.

We had discussed something about a
penalty when it came to getting hit with

water in the face. I was hit.

violations made during this game okay

These girls are very happy.

Finally, after three events, they won
something.

And that's just the kind of enthusiasm
they need at this point.

Now they need to go dry off a little
