This is my first entry
in my video sleep diary.

I'm 35. I live in Gresham,
Oregon.

Just outside of Portland.

(small sigh) I've never slept
well.

I, um...

I've suffered from sleep
paralysis
for as long as I can remem..

Uh, it's a condition where you
wake up and you can't move.

Arms, fingers, legs, toes,
everything.

You're physically paralyzed.

(draws breath) It's utterly
terrifying.

It feels like there's somebody
sitting in your chest,

stealing your breath,

staring at you in your sleep.

Even when you can start to move,

it feels like there's somebody
lurking in the shadows,

staring at you.

But that's just the half of it.

I've also been known
to sleepwalk for years,

often waking up in the backyard,

uh... losing endless amounts of
time

in narcoleptic episodes.

So yeah, needless to say,
I have a sleeping problem.

And that's where you come in,
Mr. Camera.

I want to find out what's going
on,

and I'm going to take you
with me, everywhere I go.

Except the bathroom, that'd be
gross.
