The equipment
has been altered somewhat.

It's been over an hour,
and they're not back yet.

Maybe we ought to send out
a search party for the geezers.

-[tires screech]

[siren blares]

is the way you trap a ghost.

with all the trimmings.

really got on my nerves.

[pensive music playing]

and it's a feeder.

is exactly the same.

Every time we defeat this entity,
it comes back in duplicate.

they're in some kind of trouble.

[dramatic music playing]

I don't know
how long we can keep this up.

Eventually, we're going to
run out of car parts.

We need to buy some more time.

Another five minutes, and everyone
should be safely off the bridge.

We blast these four,
we'll soon be dealing with eight.

a Class IV self-replicating specter.

Extremely rare.

Well, I noticed an extremely high
ion discharge coming off the ghost.

And they do feed on metals.

Which have very strong ionic properties.

Yes, I see where you're going with this.

Uh, maybe you do.

She's saying that the metallic ions
ingested by these ghosts

correlate directly
to their self-replicating abilities.

And because protons
tend to displace ions,

every time we blast the entities
with proton beams,

the self-replicating ions
are displaced into the atmosphere

where the entity reforms and duplicates.

She's good.

She's my student.

Okay.

Since proton beams displace the ions
and make the specters duplicate,

our only hope is to take
the opposite approach, fuse their ions.

Sounds like that's going to take
some major blaster retooling.

Uh, before we proceed,
it should be mentioned that

any kind of ionic fusion
carries with it a huge risk factor.

If too much energy is released
during the process,

well, this area we're standing on

could end up a crater
the size of Death Valley.

You sure know how to
paint a rosy picture there, Ray.

I think what Ray is saying is

anybody who doesn't want to risk it,
you don't have to.

We defeated the entity,
but I'm still getting a massive reading.

Yet totally unlike
anything I've ever seen.

The spectral spread of that read
is miles wide.

No ghost in existence is that big.
