Welcome to Camp Michael.

Today's itinerary.

What's an "itanerary"?

Good question, Karl.

An itinerary is a plan for all of
the fun things we're gonna do today.

9:00 a.m., kickball. 9:12, hopscotch.

9:27, obstacle course. 9:52, story time.

[groans] When's snack?

11:30 sharp.

The plans for the day all sound like
a lot of fun. I can't wait to start.

Me too.

It's now 9:00 a.m. That means kickball.

First, the rules. This will be home base.

I'll roll the ball to you here,

and you'll kick it
and run to the next base.

Look how high it can go!

The ball is bouncy.
It goes way up in the air.

This is so much fun.

[chuckles]
That's a funny way to play, Karl,

but the game is called kickball.

You kick with your feet, no hands.

But you're holding it in your hands.

I'm the pitcher. I'm allowed.

You kick.

Over here, Koo!

That's a point!

Karl kicked the ball hard.

It went far over the fence.

That is a home run.

Why don't we try something else?

Okay. We're gonna play hopscotch next.

We just need a couple of stones
for the game.

Hmm. Ah! Got 'em.

[Karl] Beep. Boop.

Michael! Look, a robot!

Yeah.

It's a nice robot,
but it's actually the grid you play on.

How many points to get the stone
in the robot's mouth?

None.
You're supposed to toss and then hop.

Start by tossing the stone
into the first square

and hop over to the next one.

- Hop, hop, hop. Hop.
- [Koo giggling]

- Not like that. Like this.
- [Karl] Hop.

Watch. Hop on one foot, two, turn.

[Koo] Hop, hop on one foot.

- Michael, your camp is so much fun.

- [both] Jump, jump!
- You aren't listening.

- Karl! Koo!
- This is fun.

[whistles]

Let's try the next activity.

But we're having fun playing hopscotch.

That wasn't hopscotch.
I'm not sure what that was.

How about Robot-hop?

[sighs]

Listen, guys. I put a lot of thought
into a super fun day for you,

but we can't do that if you keep
doing things that aren't on this list.

Now it's time for the obstacle course!

- [Karl] Wow!
- Ooh.

[Michael] First, we go through the boxes.

Then you throw a disc into the bucket.

Then you kick the ball into the net,
go around the swings,

and first one
through the hockey sticks wins.

Here, let me show you.

[grunting]

- [sighs]
- [both giggle]

Okay, let's make that jump
over the boxes. Got it?

Start.

No, the other way.

- [Koo giggling]
- You said to run around.

[both giggling]

Koo, push me.

Karl, Koo, look. This is how it's done.

- Higher! [giggles]
- [giggles]

[sighs] Maybe it's time
for a quiet activity.

How about we have story time now?

[both] Yay!

Story time is fun.

I hope the book has dragons.

Or maybe a truck.

This was my favorite book
when I was little.

You were right. It does have a truck.

Anyway...

"Dizzy the dancing dump truck loved
to move dirt to the beat of the music."

Last summer, my friend, Nolan,
saw them building a house on his street,

and there were all kinds of trucks.

Yes, Karl, I remember. Back to the story.

"Once, she played a very fast tune
that had her spinning

- until Dizzy was a dizzy dump truck."
- [giggling]

- Dumpy, dizzy dump truck.
- [both giggle]

- [Karl giggles]

- [Koo] Dump truck. [giggles]

Why don't you go inside
and see what Addy's made for snack?

Where are the campers, Michael?

Hi, Stillwater. They're inside with Addy.

Being a camp counselor
is much harder than I thought.

Oh?

They wanted to bounce the kickball
and made a robot out of the hopscotch

and wanted to swing
instead of the obstacle course.

I had the whole day planned out.

And we weren't even supposed
to have snack until later.

Now my schedule's all off.

Hmm. You seem to have a busy day planned.

It's camp. I wanted to be sure
there was always something fun to do.

[chuckles]
And are your campers having fun?

Yes, but...

But not in the way you expected.

I wanted them to follow the rules.

Ah.

Perhaps we can take a break for a story.

[sighs] Yeah, I think I could use a break.

Do you remember the story I told you
about Master Tanuki and her garden?

This is another Master Tanuki story
but from a different point of view.

As you recall, Master Tanuki
was the wisest person in the land.

Students came from all over
to learn from her.

Master Tanuki,
I have come for your wisdom.

First, you must teach me
about finding inner peace.

Perhaps we can do that today.

I see you already have a plan.

Yes. Uh, tomorrow,
you can teach me about nature

a-and then the next day, the universe.

And then we'll move on
to art a-and poetry.

Ooh, and maybe some more art.

Uh, oh. Oh.

Uh, a-and could you teach me
how to rake those rocks out front?

Uh, the cup is full. Watch out!

This cup is full of tea,
just like your mind is full of plans.

You cannot add more to either.

But I have much more to learn, Master.

[sighs] How do I make room?

You must start by first emptying your cup.

Then you will be ready.

[Stillwater] The student was
so focused on telling Master Tanuki

about what he wanted to learn,

he left no room
for what she was ready to teach.

Forgive my arrogance, Master Tanuki.
My cup is now empty.

Good. Then we can begin.

Master Tanuki said the student
should be open for new ideas.

Master Tanuki was very wise.

I could empty my cup too.

Plans are good,
but so is just seeing what happens.

Stillwater! Lemonade!

Oh, there are the campers.

Camp is so much fun.
We were reading a story.

Michael, will you finish?

We can finish the book,
or we can try something totally new.

We solved a puzzle,
and we built a blanket fort.

good enough to play with Michael.

and a bat that we can swing.

Right, we need a ball.

I don't see any out here.
Maybe we should do something else.

Wait, I know where there's one
in Michael's room.

There it is.

I can't reach.

Oh, thanks.

Michael calls it his lucky ball.

The ball has some words
that are very hard to read.

Wonder what it says.

Maybe Michael gave the ball a name.

The ball waits for me,
but the bat has other plans.

This is a hard game.

[grunting]

- Whoa!
- Wow.

Now I see
why Michael calls it his lucky ball.

That's a home run.

[Karl] Did you find it?

I felt through the grass,
searched under the trees and leaves.

Still, there was nothing.

Huh?

Hey, have you seen my baseball?
The one I had on the shelf.

Uh-huh, we used it for batting practice.

You what?

And I hit a home run!

Only now, we can't find it.

And we looked everywhere.

Which way did it go?

I don't believe this.

Do you have any others?

No, Karl! Not like that.
It was signed by my favorite player.

It's one of a kind.

You could've just waited to ask me
for a ball you could use, but you didn't.

And now, something that was
really special to me is gone.

We are both sorry.
We didn't mean to lose it.

Will you forgive us?

But we said we're sorry.
That's supposed to make it all better.

Well, it doesn't always.

And definitely not this time.

Now what do we do?

Another puzzle, but the pieces do not fit.

Let's ask my uncle.

Hello there.

We borrowed Michael's special baseball.
Then we lost it.

And now he's angry.

Oh, my.

And we said we were sorry and everything.

Hmm.

That means he can't be mad anymore.
Doesn't it?

Sometimes the words "I'm sorry"
are all you need

to make everyone feel better.

Can you think of a time like that?

- Like if I accidentally bump into Koo...
- [chuckles]

...and break her toy?

Hmm. Well, in a case like that,

the words "I'm sorry" might not be enough
to make things better at first.

What do you think, Koo?

If Karl broke my toy,
I would be both mad and sad.

Even with "I'm sorry."

That's understandable.

You see, Karl?

In some situations,

you need time before those mad
and sad feelings move along.

You might even need something more.

Why don't I tell you both a story
and you can see for yourself?

There were two little bears,
just about your age,

and they had a grandmother
whom they loved very much.

She had a big blueberry bush
outside her cottage.

Uh-uh-uh. The berries aren't yet ripe.

We'll have to wait until we can enjoy
these delicious berries all together.

[Stillwater] Archie and Hazel walked past
their grandmother's house every day,

waiting for the berries to ripen,
trying to be patient

until finally...

I think they're ready to eat now.
Don't you, Hazel?

[both] Mmm.

[Stillwater]
The blueberries were delicious,

so they decided to eat a few more.

Actually, quite a lot more.

[sighs] Mmm. Yum-yum.

[Stillwater] The two little bears
ate every single one.

Archie, Hazel,
what happened to my blueberries?

Um, we tasted them?

Tasted? You ate them all.

They were finally ripe,
and we've been waiting.

And so have I, for the delicious pie
I was going to make everyone.

We're sorry, Grandma.

I appreciate that, my dears,
but it doesn't bring back the blueberries.

And now I don't have any fruit to bake
a pie for our special family dinner.

It was wrong
to eat all of those blueberries.

Will Grandma be mad until next summer?

I hope not.

I wish we could make it right.

Yes, something that really shows
how sorry we feel.

[gasps] There is another way
to make up for what we did.

[Stillwater] The cubs discovered that
the woods were filled with raspberries

and that they were ripe for the picking.

Grandma, these are for you.

Is there enough here to make a pie?

[Stillwater]
Their grandmother was still upset

that she couldn't make the pie
she'd planned for,

but she appreciated the kind gesture.

Oh, my.

Did you pick all of these
from the bushes down the road?

[chuckles] Come inside,
and we'll get you cleaned up.

And then we'll see
what we can do with these berries.

- [sighs]
- Mmm.

Oh. [chuckles]

The grandma was still sad
about the pie she couldn't make

even though the bear cubs said,
"I'm sorry."

Hearing this story helps me know
how Michael feels.

We must do something.

Could we make Michael a pie?

[chuckles] A pie is a nice treat,

but this may call
for a different solution.

Do you have any other ideas?

I know. We'll do just like
what the little bears did

when they got the new berries
for their grandma.

Stillwater, can we look in your shed?
We're going to need a few things.

Of course, Karl.

[sighs]

Are you still mad?

I guess I'm not as mad.

You were right.

I looked and looked all over for it,
but that ball is definitely gone.

Must have been some home run.

I bet it went all the way to the moon.

[chuckles] Maybe.

Michael, I promise I'll never ever take
anything from you without asking first.

What we did was wrong.
It was selfish and hurtful.

We both feel badly.

That's why we want to give you this.

Because we lost your special ball,
we made you another one.

And it even has writing you can't read
on it too, just like the first one.

If you want to know, it should say,
"Love, Karl and Koo."

We ran out of room.

You wanna try it out?
Maybe we can hit another home run.

No, let's not play with this one.

Because you don't like it?

No, I do.

I just want to keep it safe,
because now this one is special too.

Perhaps Michael has other baseballs
that you could play with instead.

Yeah, I do. Do you wanna be the catcher?

[chuckling] I would like that very much.

Okay then. You can get set up,
and I'll be right back with a new ball.
