of six friends and squatters...

who after all these years
are forced to confront the past.

It is the story of a reunion...

of friendship and lost dreams.

It is the story of a group of
friends, inseparable...

who were part of the
anarchist culture in the 80s.

They claimed political actions
and they made films.

They did all sorts of terrible things.

They have placed a bomb
in an American house.

The homemade bomb ticks.
But it will not explode.

Thirteen years later.

Berlin, November 2000.

At the airport director
Gregor Schnitzler shoots a scene

which illustrates the whole movie.

Those former friends
are on the run...

from the police and from their past.

The idea behind the script is a
story about a group of old friends...

who are forced by circumstances
to meet again...

to face the past that they left behind.

We looked for a story,
where we could talk about the past...

and look back at the past
without all that extra sort of crap.

So then we came up
with the story about the bomb.

And with a loud bang
the past returns.

To the dismay of all concerned.

Twelve years later the bomb explodes...

and the former friends have to
solve this problem together.

We break into the police barracks.

They're in this together.
Wonderful.

Tragic, dramatic
and also very comical.

What are we going to do?

They function as a group.

They are chaotic, but that chaos
has a certain order.

Paradoxical but true.

Man, just like in the good old days.

We are going to kick some police butt.

What has become of them?
Have they changed?

Did they betray their ideals?

That appealed to me in this movie.

That we are showing
a bit of German history...

according to their development,
by travelling in time.

and their antagonist...

I had to play Tim...

so I thought: Okay.

The script appealed to me.

It was a strong script, one of
the best I've read in years.

It wasn't a real bomb,
we weren't the RAF.

This story could be situated anywhere,
within any group of friends.

It is particularly interesting
as a piece of German history.

How do you get to the point of saving them?

So our children could see that
we resisted those bastards.

No one cared.
-Except the police.

Tim's oldest friend is Hotte.

Martin Feifel plays an anarchic
relic from the past.

Uncle Hotte, where did
your legs go?

We assume that I was run over by
a water cannon.

That was a major event,
also for the group.

We assume in the movie that the group
has fallen apart.

For Feifel the role is also a
confrontation with his own past.

I was a member of some groups
involved in street fights...

who squatted churches and other buildings.

In that respect I had an active
contact with that world.

How much do people change in ten years?
There are certain similarities...

We are lucky we liked each other.

No one was difficult because he or
she wanted more privileges than the rest.

I was pleasantly surprised
by his enthusiasm.

He worked hard, played with scenes,
came up with suggestions.

He is quite normal with
his star status.

Til Schweiger surprises me again and again,
as an actor and a human being.

enthusiastic about his fellow players.

then a good director, producer,
a good cast, camera crew, etc..

and competent.

of reality.

a different color, given a different look.

green guy is chasing your friends.

We have tried to show everything
as a bit more stylish...

than in reality.

It was very complicated.

You can write that very easily,
but the complexity of the recordings...

and the cinematographic images
are really overwhelming.

Starting director Gregor Schnitzler
showed himself undeterred.

The scale itself...

L�witsch asked me if I was not nervous
because it was such a big movie.

But it does not matter whether the
film is a big or small.

Of course it is true
if you have one hundred extras...

it all takes a bit longer.

So you will have to adjust your ideas about
how long something will take.

Furthermore it is the same.

They are slow.

working with six actors.
