So, I just leveled up our living room

with the Highense L9Q, our first ultra

short throw laser TV. And the coolest

part, the setup stays completely out of

sight until I need it.

Our living room setup has been the same

for years. [music] A wall-mounted TV and

a media cabinet I love. But that layout

doesn't really work with the L9Q. I also

didn't want to take down the TV or swap

in a fixed projector screen. I do

currently have a motorized screen up

here, but it is an ALR, and even though

it works fine with a standard projector,

it's just not practical for an ultra

short throw. Sure, I could try mounting

the drop- down screen closer to the

wall, but I actually found a better, way

cooler solution. We'll talk more about

it later in the video, but right now,

let's unbox the L9Q. If you're looking

for a massive screen experience without

mounting a TV, the Highense L9Q is one

of the most impressive ultra short throw

laser projectors you can get right now.

And it's packed with features that make

it feel less like a projector and more

like a full home theater system. Now, it

does come with a price point of about

$6,000, which definitely puts it on the

higher end. So, that's something to

consider if you're shopping for an ultra

short throw. I also wanted to point out

that I have used a handful of projectors

before that range anywhere from $200 to

about $3,000. But the Highense L9Q is

the first ultra short throw I ever

owned, so I can't really compare it to

other ones in the market, but I can

surely share how my experience has been.

There's not a ton in the box, but you do

get some fancy white gloves, a power

cord, the remote, a little cleaning

brush, and a dust blower. When I first

saw the L9Q, it just feels different. It

doesn't look like a typical projector.

It actually looks like something you

would [music] want on display. The

copper accents and the clean textured

design give it this upscale vibe, almost

like a modern piece of furniture. It

fits right in with a nice living room

setup instead of sticking out. As for

size, the L9Q feels premium but not

bulky. It measures approximately 24.2 in

wide, 13.6 in deep, and 6.3 [music] in

tall, making it easy to fit on most

media cabinets while still giving you

plenty of stability for alignment.

Setting up the Highense L9Q is

surprisingly straightforward for a

premium ultra short throw projector.

Once you unbox it and place it on your

media cabinet, the first step is simply

positioning it at the right distance

from your wall or screen. Because it

uses a 0.181 throw ratio, it sits very

close to the wall, much closer than a

traditional projector, so you don't need

a long room or complicated mounting.

Most of the time, it's just a matter of

sliding it slightly forward or backward

until the corners line up, but in my

case, I use a remote to adjust the

cabinet in [music] and out. The

adjustable feet also help level the

image without having to reposition your

furniture. One issue I did encountered

was that the auto keystone did not work

properly for me. I tried it several

times and each time the image would not

align properly. So I had to manually

adjust the screen to dial it in, which

was pretty simple. Anyways, once the

image is set, the rest of the setup is

just as simple. You plug in your HDMI

devices, connect the power cable, and

walk through the Google TV setup screen.

Wi-Fi setup, app downloads, voice

assistant pairing, all of it feels

similar to setting up a smart TV. You

can go from unboxing to watching your

first movie in a surprisingly short

amount of time. The L9Q is built around

a tri chroma triple laser engine which

uses separate red, green, and blue

lasers to produce its image. [music]

This solid-state light source allows it

to achieve three critical performance

metrics. One, extreme brightness. The

projector is rated at a stunning 5,000

ANC lumens. This is significantly

brighter than most competing ultrash

short throw models, which typically

range from 2500 to 3,000 lumens. This

high output is the reason the L9Q is

marketed as a laser TV. It allows the

projected image up to 200 in to maintain

vividness and contrast even in well-lit

living rooms, virtually eliminating the

need for a dedicated dark theater

[music] space. But I was genuinely

shocked by how bright and clear the L9Q

screen remained, even right in the

middle of the day. Two, unparalleled

color. The tri chroma system enables the

L9Q to cover 110% of the BT2020 color

space, the industry standard for 4K and

8K [music] content. This wide gamut

means the colors you see are more

vibrant, accurate, and lifelike than

those produced by most single or dual

laser projectors. And three, [music]

high dynamic range. The L9Q supports all

major HDR formats, including Dolby

Vision, HDR10 Plus, HDR10, and HLG. When

watching a movie, this means you get

exceptionally deep blacks for a

projector, and bright highlights,

creating a dynamic, detailed image that

truly brings 4K Ultra HD content to

life. Now, to be fair, an OLED TV is

still going to win when it comes to

perfect blacks and overall picture

quality, but for a projector, especially

one this bright, the L9 Q looks really

impressive. My wife and I honestly don't

watch much TV these days. Life gets busy

and there's always something that needs

to be done around the house. But

tonight, I wanted to show my wife the

movie time automation I set up for the

Highense L9Q. It integrates with

HomeKit, so the entire process is fully

automated. Here's how it went. And then

when I push this button, you're going to

pretend like, holy cow, that's amazing.

So, ready?

>> Tada. Oh my goodness, [laughter] that's

so cool.

She was clearly impressed. My wife loves

her reality TV dramas. Definitely not

me, though. I'm obviously just checking

to see if the contrast is dialed in

correctly. After weeks with this 120in

setup, anything smaller just [music]

feels tiny now. I haven't used our TV

since upgrading to the L9Q. And

honestly, I don't miss it. While the L9Q

delivers cinematic performance for

movies, it also holds its own as a

premium gaming display, especially when

paired with a modern gaming PC or

console. I don't have a spare gaming PC,

but I do have a gaming laptop that I was

able to connect to the L9Q via HDMI 2.1.

With a dedicated game mode, the input

lag drops to impressive levels. It

supports 4K at 60 Hz with about 35

milliseconds of input lag. And if you

prefer higher refresh rates, you can

switch to 1080p at 120 Hz and get lag as

low as 16 [music] milliseconds in turbo

mode. Gaming on a 120in screen with

sharp, bright visuals and super low lag

makes fast-paced titles feel incredibly

immersive. I was playing Forza recently,

and the screen was so bright I had to

dial the laser down a notch or two. Our

son is four, about to turn five in a few

months, and he's already hooked on

gaming. And of course, he's obsessed

with the massive screen. Last year, I

got him a game called Instruments of

Destruction, where you build vehicles

and destroy buildings and structures.

He's a fan of Legos, particularly

building vehicles, and even though it

seems pretty complex, he figured it out

on his own. I also hooked up the Switch

2 in Mario Kart in 4K has never looked

better. Now, what really surprised me is

the audio quality. This projector packs

a Deva tuned 6.2.2 surround system,

something you almost never see built

into an ultrash short throw projector.

Deb is a high-end French audio company

known for making extremely premium

speakers, amplifiers, and audio

technologies. Maybe you recognize this

iconic speaker. Maybe not. Either way,

the audio gets so loud that I rarely

have the need to go past volume level

20. And it's not just the volume. The

sound is rich, full, and has a

surprisingly solid amount of bass.

Honestly, it would probably sound even

better if it wasn't tucked inside the

cabinet, but as it is, I'm not

complaining. Now, I do have a full Sonos

ARC setup with rears and a subwoofer,

but right now, it's connected to the TV

and not the projector. I still haven't

figured out the ideal way to run both

the TV and the projector through the

soundbar via ERC, but that's something

I'll sort out later. For now, the L9Q's

built-in surround system is more than

good enough. On the back of the L9 Q,

you'll find a total of four HDMI ports,

which is generous for any modern

display. You get two full HDMI 2.1

ports, which is huge news for gaming.

HDMI 2.1 is the newest standard. And if

you're using a PS5, an Xbox, or a

high-end gaming laptop, these ports

matter. Then you also get two HDMI 2.0

ports that are perfect for your everyday

gear, things that don't need all that

super fast bandwidth. You can plug in

your cable box, a dedicated Blu-ray

player, a streaming device, or another

older console. Here you also get an

enhanced audio return channel port on

HDMI 3, which is perfect if you're

running a soundbar or a full AV setup.

There's also multiple USB slots,

including at least one fast USB 3.0 port

and a USBC type-C port. [music] This

lets you plug in a flash drive to

instantly view your own photos or video

files, or even connect certain external

storage devices. I'm also glad that

Highense didn't hold back on the smart

features. The L9Q runs Google TV right

out of the box, so you don't need a

separate streaming device for apps like

Netflix, Disney Plus, or YouTube. And

unlike older laggy interfaces, this

thing is powered by a fast chipset, so

everything feels smooth. Apps open

quickly, scrolling is snappy, and the

whole experience feels premium, just

like you would expect at this price. And

since we're talking about the user

experience, the remote is actually one

of my favorite little touches. It's a

voice remote with Google Assistant

builtin, and it has this automatic

backlight that turns on the second you

lift it, perfect for navigating in a

dark room. These little design choices

really enhance the overall ease of use.

You can also use the Google Home app to

control the L9Q, which is super

convenient. And when it comes to picture

settings, the L9Q gives you plenty of

options. It has a bunch of automatic and

AI enhancements, but I prefer to tweak

things myself, so I turn all of that

off, and the picture still looks

amazing. The L9Q is a gorgeous piece of

tech, and part of me definitely wants to

show it off. But honestly, having it

tucked inside the cabinet just feels

safer. Plus, it keeps the setup looking

super tidy. This is a premium media

cabinet from a brand called Shore, sold

by Nothing Projector, and it's made

specifically for ultrash short throw

setups. I first saw it on my friend

Dennis's Instagram account, and I knew I

needed to have it. By the way, make sure

to check out his account if you want

some serious home theater inspo. But

anyways, I reached out to Nothing

Projector, and they were kind enough to

hook me up. Definitely one of the perks

of being a creator. Now, this thing

shows up in a massive crate, close to

400 lb. And then there's a second box

just for the motorized flooring screen.

You can actually buy the screen on its

own if you want to build your own

cabinet or just have it sitting directly

on the floor. And with this model,

there's zero assembly required. So, all

I had to do was gracefully remove it

from the box.

Now that I got the easy part out of the

way, the next step was just getting all

three cabinet sections lined up. In the

back of this cabinet was designed

specifically to accommodate the floor

rising screen, so it simply sits in

place without needing to be mounted.

It's made from solid wood and veneer

with this clean semi matte black finish,

and it actually feels really well-b

built. The main reason I went with this

cabinet is the whole motorized review

experience. With one tap on the remote,

the screen rises up in the center

section of the cabinet slides forward to

review the Highense L9Q. It's super cool

to watch and definitely a conversation

starter when people come over. Okay, so

here's how it works. The 120in screen is

its own unit with a simple power cable.

Included with the screen is a small USB

wireless adapter that pairs with the

screen. The wireless adapter and the

cabinet's USB cable both plug into a

basic USB hub. And that hub connects to

the USB port on the back of the L9Q.

Once that's set up, everything just

works automatically. When I power on the

projector, the cabinet and screen sense

the signal and turn on by themselves.

The screen rises, the cabinet opens, and

you're ready to watch. And when I turn

off the projector, the screen drops back

down, and the cabinet closes itself.

It's seamless and honestly feels way

more high-end than I expected. I really

love how clean and minimal the whole

setup looks. The front panels uses a

mesh design which not only looks good

but also helps a lot with air flow.

Super important if you're storing other

devices inside. I've got a NAS server

and Apple TV and an eight port switch in

there. And so far I haven't run into any

heat issues. I also added a small metal

shelf inside just to keep everything a

bit more organized and tidy. I also

wanted to add some sort of ambient

lighting under the cabinet, but since

this was a three-piece unit that aren't

secured together, I needed to find

something that was removable in case I

needed to move the cabinet. So, I got

the GOI neon rope light, which included

these little clips. By using the clips,

I'm able to secure the light underneath

the cabinet, but I can also easily

remove the light if needed. The GOI

lights offer a ton of unique color

effects, and it's the perfect addition

to complement the other Goi lights I

have. My only real complaint with this

cabinet is the lack of a cutout or

grommet for cable management, especially

if you're planning to run a soundbar

like I am. Unlike a regular cabinet, you

can't just toss the cables to the back

due to the screen. So, the workaround

that ended up working for me was leaving

a small gap between the cabinet and the

screen. The motorized screen just rests

on top of the cabinet. Nothing actually

locks it in place, which is how it's

designed. I could probably come up with

a custom way to secure it, but honestly,

it's been working totally fine as is.

And even though there's a little gap, I

barely notice it anyway. And since this

cabinet sits much lower than my old one,

it ended up exposing the wall outlets

behind it. For the two on the sides, I

found a decent workaround by picking up

these power strips [music] that have a

flat plug and a cover. They do a pretty

good job of hiding the outlets. As for

the center section, I'm still stuck. I

haven't figured out a clean solution

yet. So, if you guys have any ideas,
