Last year I sent the boys on a mission
for Shark Week.

And it didn't go as planned.

I thought I was going to die, like for
real.

We started out on MTV making our little
show together.

But it was the scariest thing that we've
ever seen this whole career of Jackass,

Wild Boys, all of it. So this year, I am
getting the boys back together for a new

mission, and that is to get poopies back
in the water with the sharks that

defiled it.

Ha!

Johnny Knoxville is going to be joining
us on the mission.

It's Shark Week meets Jackass.

What could possibly go wrong?

Again.

That moment.

Pretty much left my brain on the boat.

I knew it was dangerous.

Kind of jumped the sharks like Ponzi.

And it was like, all right, let's try to
do this.

We got it!

When I was going off that ramp, I pretty
much just got long strided into the

shark pit.

I let the shark have my hand because I
thought if I went like this, the shark

would freaking rip my hand off.

So luckily the shark didn't like wiggle
its head or anything, and I let the

shark have my hand, and he let go.

And there's like blood bubbles coming
out.

It was gnarly.

Yeah, I thought I was going to die in
front of my friend, like pretty heavy.

Yeah, I'm here, so.

I'm strapped to a wakeboard. I can't
swim.

And that's when Mike came and jumped on
my back.

The only way for me to enter the water
was to do that somersault backflip just

to create a giant enough signature to
scare whatever sharks were on him, off

of him.

I could see the blood pumping out of his
wrist at a pretty profound rate. It was

a double squirter. So he had two streams
of blood coming out.

Nothing like I've ever seen before. Get
him out!

Oh, God.

I saw his wrist and I saw his arm and I
go, we've got to stop bleeding now or he

doesn't have a chance.

At that point, we created a tourniquet
out of a makeshift weight belt.

It was just a matter of stopping the
bleeding and then getting him to Miami

so they could do the surgery because
looking at that bite, it was clear that

all of his tendons, bones, everything
had literally been severed by that bite.

So the recovery process was so long.
It's been a year.

Physical therapy, two days a week.

It's getting there.

I just thank God every day, you know?

Mike saved my life and got me to safety,
and I owe my life to Mike.

And now I'm on Shark Week 2.

I mean, I can't even believe this is
happening.

So this time last year while filming
Shark Week, Poopies, you really took one

for the team.

I don't think anyone else was going to
jump the shark, though. It was up to me.

We're very lucky to have him with us
this year. And his hand.

Can you make a fist?

Yeah.

That's a half-assed fist, poopies.
Luckily, poopies taste terrible and the

shark let go.

Sharks are totally cool when they're not
hungry, but when it's dinner time and

they're excited, it goes from zero to
ten like that. It was a perfect storm.

It was like Jaws real life.

It's really important for me to be here
and get over that fear, you know,

because I don't want that accident to
stop me from doing what I love.

I love the ocean. I love surfing. That's
my passion.

So this is a huge step for me to go
conquer that so I can do what I love.

I have a great respect for sharks. They
have been around longer than trees.

They are the OGs on this planet, and we
should treat them as such.

To help you face your fear, poopies,
we're going to get back in the water.

with the same type of sharks that bit
you and show you that it's okay.

You guys go first?

Yeah, we'll go first. In the name of
science.

We're going to do a bunch of stupid so
you don't have to. Yeah.

All right, poopies, let's get you back
in the water. All right.

Come on, poopies. Yeah, bud. Yeah,
poopies.

I'm nervous as hell right now. Me and
the boys are, of course, scientists, but

we decided to call an actual scientist,
Joe Romero.

I'm Joe Romero. I'm an underwater
cinematographer and a conservationist.

Knoxville asked me to come up with a few
demonstrations to show the incredible

power of shark. And I'm a huge Jackass
Forever fan, so of course I said yes.

When Poopies was bit, he had hundreds of
pounds of pressure pushing these teeth

further into his flesh.

So I came up with a little experiment
for the guys to record the sheer power

of the sharks.

I wanted to get you guys out here today
so we could really look at the bite

force of a shark. Most of the bite
forces that have been judged about

sharks are small sharks, like 200, 250
pounds of pressure. But the shark that

bit poopies was like seven feet long.

So to properly represent the bite force,
we got this steel jaw trap that's in

here.

But this only does about one
one-hundredth.

of the bite force that bit Poopies.

Can you tell us anything about how that
felt, Poopies? It felt like a bear trap

with razor blades on it. When it bit me,
I was like, oh my god, if I even give a

little tug back, it's going to take it
off. Damn.

You know what's serious? When Poopies
won't give it a little tug.

For real.

So Johnny, are you going to take this

Yeah, I'm going to do it for Poopies,
because I want to feel 1 100th of what

he felt.

One of the biggest questions that people
have about sharks is bite force.

How hard can a shark bite?

So we're just going to see how strong
the bite of these Caribbean reef sharks

can be.

For this next experiment, I'm sending
the bravest knight in my kingdom to the

blue realm of the deep.

All right, guys, this is a bite force
meter.

And we have it set up on the end of this
sword, and it's connected to this reader

on the inside of this waterproof box.

And when a shark bites the end of this,
we'll be able to determine how hard that

shark bite is by this meter. It gives us
a reading in pounds per square inch. We

covered yours in barracuda to give the
shark some incentive.

You ready?

venture into the ocean realm to face the
jaws of the deep.

There was a lot of sharks.

Oh my god, it was chaos.

Big one.

I'm really surprised I didn't get bit.

I pulled and fought it, and there was
two big ones right on it. It was just

chaos. That's all I can say.

What'd you think, Joe?

That was absolute insanity, man.

Look. Look at this, Chris.

Wow. Left a tooth into it.

We got some teeth.

Left a bunch of teeth on the ground.
These are the Caribbean reef shark

teeth, and this is the grouper teeth.

Well, honestly, this is kind of more
than I thought it would be, but it's

526. Well, two were biting at the same
time.

The pressure reading was just a little
over 500 PSI.

It's really hard to tell if that's
really accurate. There were two sharks

on it at the time. But a little over 500
pounds is enough to crush a human skull.

So I think we showed what these sharks
are capable of. It looked like you held

on as much as you could, man. It's a lot
of strength. Well, I have the strength

of 10 men, and those sharks.

could take that sword easily from me. At
least it took like nine of the men away.

That was really cool. Well, good job,
man. You faced the dragon and he came

out unscathed. Came out unscathed.

Now we have to get poopies back in the
water and convince them that it's all

okay.

One of the things that sharks can do
better than any other predator is sense

their prey.

They do this in a multitude of ways.

Smell, sound, but one unique way is
sensing electrical fields.

However, The electric eel, which is
actually a freshwater fish from the

Amazon, has the ability to use
electricity to deter bull sharks in the

wild. I have a feeling that I probably
shouldn't have told Knoxville about

this.

So it's known electric eels will shock,
kill, and then eat baby bull sharks.

And to test that theory out, we brought
our own baby bull today, Wee Man.

Come on, Wee Man.

Electric eels generate this electric
charge through three pairs of organs.

One of them is the hunter's organ, which
is under the belly, and it can generate

up to 600 volts of electricity.

The worst part of electric eels is how
creepy they look.

Oh, the 600 volts that they can
electrocute you with. I was going to get

to that.

What's your confidence level, wee man?

I don't know. I have nothing right now.

So Joe said electricity could overpower

shark's fence and make the water
hopefully safe.

I think we should test that idea for
science with our good friend Dark Shark.

Dark Shark is pure gold. He gets very,
very worked up over things. But he

eventually does it.

Sharks like to eat, right?

No. No, they just go through people.

How did you get the name Dark Shark?

Too hard for it to be a dolphin.

I'm dark, so I made up Dark Shark right
in front of me and started laughing.

But today, I'm like, I ain't got no
shark in me. I tell them I'm Dark

Goldfish now. That's my name.

So last night, we made Dark Shark a
little glass-bottom boat, which is

hopefully seaworthy.

Semi-seaworthy.

Dude, that's the SS Dark Shark.

So Dark Shark is going to be wearing
this electric shark-repelling device,

which... You place this end in the
water, and every time you hit this

button, it sends out an electric
current, which repels sharks, in theory.

So, Joe, what kind of an effect does
electricity have on sharks? Well, it has

two different effects. One, it attracts
them, because they're attracted to

electromagnetic field. But what we're
hoping is that we send out so much of it

that it'll, like, deter them and make
them run away.

The sharks pick up all the electrical
signals from these tiny little pores

surrounded around the whole snout of the
shark, called the ampullae of warranty.

These pores pick up an electrical field
that is released by their prey as they

breathe underwater.

I'm going to be interested myself,
because honestly, I've never seen one of

these devices used, but I've heard a lot
about them.

This part goes around your leg, and this
is going to dangle in the water.

Man, I don't like that boat.

It's kind of got a feeling to it. Like
I'm on parole with an ankle break.

see the shark, and then when you want

him to go away, when you've had enough
of him, push the button.

This is

what

we

need. We definitely got a reaction from
a shark.

As ridiculous as the experiment seems,
this actually shows the wide range of

electrical fields that sharks can
detect.

Repel him!

They can clearly pick up an electrical
current. And picking up something like a

tarpon swimming by is easy.

But when dark sharks hit that button, it
sent out a larger current than normal.

And the sharks clearly sensed that.

And when you see an accident with a
shark, it's hard for people to come back

their fears.

So we need to take small steps to get
poopies back in the water before he dies

in shock.

Knoxville's actually preparing a cave,
but he asked me if there was any natural

repellents I could suggest.

Hagfish have one of the most powerful
natural defenses in the animal kingdom.

When a predator draws near, the hagfish
releases this disgusting mucus slime

from their glands.

And this is made from rotting
microorganisms that the animal consumes.

So this makes predators just take off
immediately.

So we're going to test that theory using
poopies.

Hopefully poopies doesn't get bit again.
But if he does, it's not terrible

television.

Today we're going to be testing one of
the oldest known shark repellents,

hagfish slime.

This is the first time that poopies has
been back in the water with sharks.

So he's a little nervous.

But luckily, he'll be in a cage covered
in Hector slime. I told Poopies if

something unexpected happens, like the
shark ends up in the cage or ends up,

I'll push him out of the way and hit the
shark.

You know, like when we did the matador a
few times, I had to whack at it because

there was one that really wanted to bite
me.

the sharks lunchtime.

It was already shark lunch. All right.
The scariest moment in the cage was

probably when the bull sharks got super
close and, like, headed right for me.

Their eyes were locked right on me, and
I was like, oh.

This is not good. I started freaking
out.

The hagfish was gross.

I'm really actually happy I wasn't on
the boat.

But you could see that the sharks were
actually deterred when they could sense

the hagfish.

But as Zach kept chumming and the
hagfish wore off, you saw a reaction in

the sharks.

But poopies remained calm in the cage.

Ultimately, it was a great first
experience back in the water.

That was rad.

Dude. How'd it feel?

Dude, I was hanging on to your leg like

No, at first we see the sharks from a
distance, but they didn't get close at

all. But as the hagfish slime wore off,
they're right there.

I guess the hagfish slime worked.

We did it.

What's going on?

I'm feeding the sharks.

Sharks not only have an incredible bite,
but they are a very strong animal.

And it's thought that sharks can drag
over twice their body weight in the

water. So a great white shark can drag
about 4,000 pounds in the water,

although it's never been tested.

So we're going to actually test how
devastating and powerful a shark bite

might be and see how much weight they
can drag in relation to their size by

using Zach Holmes.

What was the scariest thing you did on
Jackass Forever?

The scariest thing I did on Jackass
Forever was probably doing the human

kite thing.

One of my biggest fears, though, is the
ocean, so this is really scary to me.

Knoxville really didn't tell me anything
about what I'm getting into this week.

So, yeah, I'm really not sure what I'm
going to be doing at all.

I've never even been in the ocean
before, so this is a first for me.

I've got a big fish at the end of this
line, and I'm going to try to get a

shark to pull me around this stupid
ocean.

This is so scary!

Why? You're just fishing.

I don't want to be in here.

Got some sharks, Zach.

I want to get back on the bigger boat.
You got to catch him first.

stronger than I thought they were.

Not that I thought they were weak, but
to be able to tip me over in a boat gets

me pretty strong.

That's the first time I've seen a shark
take a bait, a boat, and a person.

If you've ever tried to pull something
in the water you know as human beings,

it's almost impossible.

But... You get a seven, eight-foot
shark, and that shark can pull

tremendous weight, even Zach's 420-pound
body. So we wanted to see how sharks

hunt. I think we got a good idea of
that, right?

Yeah. Did you guys walk away with
anything that you felt like you learned

something? Four-foot sharks.

Respect them, love them. I learned that
Zach's balls are just as big as the rest

of them.

I'm nervous to do this little dot.

I'm not nervous.

I'm actually kind of stoked on it. Whoa,

So Knoxville wanted to show Poopy's
examples of sharks hunting animals other

than fish.

Now it's pretty well known that sharks
hunt baby birds when they sit on the

water. They're not really good at using
their wings yet, and the sharks take

advantage of them.

I shared some of these clips with
Knoxville.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a good idea.

When the baby birds are just learning to
fly, sometimes they crash into the

water, and it's just like Thanksgiving
for sharks.

So we're going to throw him in the water
and see how he does.

To conquer your opponent, you need to
learn everything about them. It's kind

of like keep your friends close and your
enemies closer.

Poopies has learned a lot. But still,
there's a few other things I want to

show them about sharks.

Sharks have incredible mouths.

And we spend so much time focusing on
the bite and teeth.

But they actually have these calcium
deposits that make them super tough,

almost impenetrable. They can eat almost
anything.

Everything from tin cans to undetonated
bombs have been found in their stomachs.

In fact...

They're one of the few species that can
withstand a lionfish sting. Joe, he said

that a lionfish sting is the worst pain
he's ever been in.

So to see if we know what he's really
talking about, we're going to test it

out on Zach.

This beautiful fish right here is called
a lionfish.

It's a super invasive species of Florida
in the Bahamas.

And these hypodermic needles of a dorsal
fin.

It's filled with venom, and it's very,
very painful.

And we're going to see how painful on
our friend Zach right here.

Lionfish has a really good defensive
mechanism.

We took you out to the open ocean, and
you were able to feed a shark a

lionfish. Would you do it? Yes.

Lionfish are one of the most successful
invasive species in the Atlantic.

Lionfish have like a dozen very sharp
spines throughout their entire body. The

venom that is excreted is like cobra
venom.

It's only designed to cause pain.

I've actually been stung by a lionfish,
and I thought it was the worst pain I

had ever felt in my entire life.

I heard you got stung by that field.

It's like the worst thing ever. Yeah,
it's so bad. And there's been a lot of

debate as if...

what predators may be able to eat these
fish.

So a lot of people have actually started
to try to feed lionfish to sharks.

To get them stoked on lionfish?

Yeah, just to make them, like, see if
they could get an aid for it. And maybe

to start, like, decreasing the numbers
of them down.

So far, we haven't seen much of a
success from that.

Have you actually swam around in the
ocean?

Uh, not really. I can kind of float,
like, a little bit.

Um, I mainly sink, though.

I guess that's really all you need is to
be able to hold a stick and hold it

straight out towards the sharks.

So what we've set up today is a little
experiment to try to see if the sharks

will actually eat lionfish.

We have a bunch of lionfish, and we're
going to put it on the end of a stick,

and we're going to have you go out in
the middle of the water and see if the

sharks will eat them.

Is that cool? Will you do it?

That's insane.

But I guess I'll do it.

It's up to you, Zach, to save this ocean
from these invasive fish. I guess I'll

try.

I'm warning you, the sharks will go
after his feet. They're very wise.

The sharks were fully circling his feet,
like, just as interested in his feet as

they are the fish.

Sharks are into foot stuff, I guess.

Shark hunting behavior at night is

relatively unknown.

But what we do know is that they're
attracted to shiny things like fish

scales and hot dudes.

Shark behavior at night is completely
different. What we do know is that a lot

of sharks hunt their prey at night, and
a lot of sharks are way more active at

night, which is making this experiment
way more dangerous than it needs to be.

So the sun's about to go down. That's
around the time when most people have

their dinner, so sharks are no
different.

I mean, when people say, like, at dusk
is when sharks are most active, it's

kind of like, duh, dinner time.

Makes sense. Just like us. It's actually
a pretty good theory that it's around

that time.

All I know is it was about this time
when our bro got bit.

Statistically, shark attacks on humans
are super rare, but there were a bunch

of circumstances surrounding around
Poopy's bite, one of them being that he

was splashing, the other one being that
it was dusk. So what better way to test

that theory besides get everybody in the
water at dusk and have them splash

around?

Dark shark.

How do you think this is going to go?

I don't know. Y'all told me the Sharks
don't like shiny stuff.

Sharks aren't aggressive animals.

It turned out they're actually very nice
creatures and that everything is smooth.

The sharks are going to be smooth too.

So the shark attack last year really
shook Poopy's confidence.

The shark got so close.

I left it.

No hurry.

We're going to get him back in the water
to show him sharks are not man-eaters,

but they are wonderful creatures.

We're doing things with sharks that
people just don't normally do. So you

don't really know if it's safe or not
until you do it.

Poopies have the courage to come back
for Shark Week and not be afraid of the

water.

It's crazy knowing that these are the
same type of sharks that bit poopies.

I'm super excited to do the final dive
with Poopy. It's going to be super fun.

Even though that accident happened to
him, we'll go in the water with him, go

swim with sharks, do whatever.

A year later, they go back to the same
place.

I'm proud of him, but he's nuts, man.

But we'll see what happens.

the sharks.

I feel a lot better. I don't have, like,
fear of, like, dying when I'm next to

If Knoxville and Wee Man and Pontius and
Jasper weren't down there, I wouldn't be

down there.

I've seen professionals have small
accidents and walk away from the

profession for the rest of their lives.
And hoopies who had a tremendous

accident came back, faced his fears, and
actually came out of the water feeling

exhilarated. There's not a lot of people
I can say that...

can do that.

All right, poopies, we got you back in
the water a year later after you were

bit. How was it? It was definitely
nerve-wracking down there. I was

definitely a little scared. I had to
hang on to the boys a couple times.

Come on. Good job. Come on, man. Be

Come on. Did you get your fear of
sharks?

Yeah, I did.

Now I can go surf and water and see big
waves.

Shark Week 2, we all survived. We're
going home with no medics.

Well, night's still young.

I'd never been in the water with sharks
before, so I came here fully thinking

that I was going to be scared of sharks.

But when I got in the water, I wasn't
scared at all. They don't really want to

mess with you unless you really go out
of your way to mess with them.

The idea of going underwater with a
shark is horrifying, but once you're

actually there looking at them and just
seeing how incredible they are, you

forget your fear. They're just so cool.

The shark bite last year was a total
mistake.

We were doing the dumbest stuff, and
that's why I got bit.

And, hey, you land on a shark, you're
going to get bit.

All of these guys walked into this not
knowing what to think about sharks.

And I think all of them walked away
really loving sharks a lot more than

they once did.

In my mind, I thought all they was going
to do was just murder me.

But it turned out they're actually very
nice creatures, and they really don't

care for the human taste of blood.

Sharks are not what people expect they
are at all. They're not out to hunt

human beings every time they get into
the water. It's incredible to be able to

swim with them and get up close with
them and touch them.

It's something I'll never forget.

I have a totally different respect level
for sharks now.

They're not mean animals. They don't
want to bite you. They just want to

cruise around and check you out.
