The thing
inside of me, it's like...

the appetite,
it's like a wolf that's...

feeling...
the hunger.

The one thing that we see
a lot with psychopaths

is they want to be normal.

They think
they are being normal,

but because they don't
actually feel it

or know what normal is,

some of them are
very bad at showing that.

And here's Alec Blair,
who's just acting

like he has
no fear, no cares.

He's actually
laughing and giddy.

This is what he's trying
to make seem normal,

and yet it's anything but
for these detectives.

[Dr. Saraiya]
I think that, you know,

his feelings of rejection,

I think that triggers
just incredibly,

sort of, high levels
of anger and violence.

And this is his way
of kind of containing that.

So, he speaks about it casually,
matter-of-factly,

alludes to it, talks about
saying these terrible things,

doing violent things,

and -- but then just
kind of laughing about it

and playing it off
to try to minimize it.

[Dr. De La Torre]
Blair's being disingenuous here

when he's talking
to investigators, you know,

saying that he doesn't
really know where she is,

that he's never interacted
with this other guy.

He had already been
interacting with both of them,

essentially stalking
both of them

and sending them, you know,
terrible messages.

I think the reality
is more that

he doesn't know
what the police know,

and he's already started
the impression management

of being, you know, "I'm just
this aw-shucks, you know,

"this youthful guy who's just
wrapped up in a situation

that I had no idea
that this was gonna unfold."

One common thing we always
see with people that have

high psychopathic tendencies
is in every situation,

especially when
they wanna get out of it,

they claim they were the victim.

And that's what we see here.

Blair is saying,
"I was trying to be civil.

She was the one, you know,
making this bad for us."

He's implying that
and saying

he was trying to take
the high road with her.

But in fact,
we know he was the one

instigating all of this.

At this point,
the vast majority of people

would either genuinely,
or at least understand

that they should
pantomime concern.

Bizarrely, he's still
kind of focused on himself.

We can sort of assume
that he doesn't feel any guilt,

he doesn't feel any remorse,
he doesn't feel any empathy.

So the only thing that
he would generally go by,

and what we would usually see
with a psychopath,

is that
self-preservation instinct.

But that seems not to have
kicked in, which is why I think

it comes across
as such a bizarre interaction.

[Dr. De La Torre] I think
there's a unique element of this

where he is obviously engaging
in misogynistic behavior,

he's clearly engaging
in behaviors that are consistent

with patriarchal systems
of oppression, and he expects

the police officers,
because they're both men,

to just laugh with him
when he says that he calls

this woman that
he claimed to love

all of these terrible things
and just excusing it.

And so, is that
an element of narcissism?

Sure, but I think
it has more to do

with the objectifying nature
that psychopaths engage in,

in order to accomplish the goals
that they wanna accomplish.

We get to this point
and he's revealed

all that he's alleged
to have done, right?

He harmed her,
left her in the cornfield,

he went to work.

He still has
a smile on his face.

Looking at the smile
is a little bit

much to do about nothing.

If we take that away,
what we see is a man

who is calm and relaxed
and confident

because he finally got
to engage in the thing

that he's been wanting
to do, which is take a life.

One common thing amongst people
with psychopathic traits is

they're very goal oriented.

They don't have the other goals
that we would have,

like forming
long-term relationships,

emotional closeness.

So they want
these objective measures.

Here we have this goal.
He had to win.

He had to beat Gabe.

He had to physically
just make her subdue to him.

And so I think when he said
it was a big deal for him,

he finally won in his mind.

What we know is that
she was stabbed 14 times

and her head was
nearly taken off the body.

That's how severe
his behavior was.

That's how intense
his anger towards her was.

This wasn't some "Aw shucks,
let's try to get back,

but, you know, I know we can't."

This wasn't that.

This was, "I am offended
that you would reject me.

And so you can
no longer live at all."

[Dr. Fox] They already
have all of the evidence.

They have the receipts.

So why wouldn't you
just cop to the truth?

And the reason is,
psychopaths pathologically lie.

They can't even
really stop themselves.

It just comes natural.

What they want to be
the truth is what they say.

This was not a case
where he just,

you know, had some rage

and hit her and, you know,
things went sour.

No, he brought a weapon.

He stabbed her
savagely 14 times.

He almost decapitated her.
It was so severe.

It was what we would
call overkill.

He went way beyond what was
needed to kill this poor woman.

And he still won't even
admit that.

So for the psychopath,
the only thing worse than

unrequited love
is once-requited love.

She decided to take her life
into her own hands,

and he was offended
that she would do that.

His ego is so fragile
that it needed to be masked

by this youthful, aw shucks,
you know, I'm just a smiley,

happy-go-lucky type of guy,

when the reality is,
is that underneath the surface

was this brewing buildup
of anger and frustration,

and the moment that she decided
to do something different

that did not include him,
she could no longer live.
