the invincible Iron Man watches the approach of two visitors.

It's Happy and Pepper.

I'd better get out of this armor and greet them as Tony Stark.

Mr. Stark calls Iron Man his bodyguard, but

I think he has some power over the boss.

Maybe blackmail.

We've gotta find out.

Greetings kids, what can I do for you?

Mr. Stark, we wanna know the truth about Iron Man.

We don't think he can be trusted.

You're imagining things, he's the world's best bodyguard, and

I trust him implicitly.

Now stop worrying.

Now I don't mean to be rude, but I have some important work to do.

The way he rushed us out, I'm positive something's wrong.

I know what you mean, he's hiding something.

And as Happy Hogan's car speeds away,

Tony Stark returns to his role as Iron Man.

Unaware that he is the target for a strange satellite now circling the Earth.

Tracking stations around the world try to trace its origin.

It is not one of ours, it must be a spy.

Meanwhile, deep in a mountain stronghold in the heart of the Orient,

we find the one responsible, the Mandarin.

And now to give my satellite its final command.

Then a beam from one of the Mandarin's rings shoots out.

And with pinpoint accuracy, strikes a sensitive switch.

Now it is done, nothing can stop it.

And as the beam strikes the satellite with deadly precision.

My killer satellite will slay all my wish.

And the one I hate most is Anthony Stark.

Within minutes after Hatwin Pepper's departure,

a sensitized alarm within his armor warns Iron Man of approaching danger.

In the sky, some sort of beam coming right towards me.

I don't know what it is, but I'm not hanging around to find out.

A long distance laser beam.

As they drive back to town, Hatwin Pepper hear a shocking bulletin on the radio.

Tony Stark's home has just been struck by a deadly ray of unknown origin.

But we just left him.

Hurry, Hat, turn around.

Easy, Pepper, honey.

Maybe it's all a mistake.

No, no, that's the room he was in when we left.

Everything was totally destroyed.

Don't cry, Pepper.

Maybe he wasn't in the room when the ray hits.

It's no use pretending, he's gone.

And at police headquarters.

There was no trace of Tony Stark after the explosion, and now Iron Man has disappeared.

A few hours later, a military jet transport wings over the Pacific.

Never expected to have a guy like him aboard.

Let him sleep. He looks bushed.

The next day inside of Tony Stark's private office,

Iron Man quickly changes into his other identity while outside the office.

Happy?

I'm sure I heard someone moving in Mr. Stark's office.

It wouldn't be Mr. Stark.

But maybe Iron Man has returned.

Let's go in and find out.

Oh, it's Mr. Stark.
