Episode 47

Queen Yoon.

Why are you doing this to me?

You're the one who doesn't believe me.

Why are you upset at me?

My taking this back means you're no longer the love of my life.

Will you have no regrets?

I'll ask you again. Will you have no regrets?

What use is a token when you don't love me anymore?

I have no regrets.

You have betrayed my love. You don't deserve to have this.

Your Majesty, you can't leave like this.

Step aside.

She didn't mean it.

I said step aside!

Your Highness, it's Chuh-sun.

Your Highness.

Why did you upset him?

You're in very big trouble.

So many people are plotting against you.

Only the king can protect you.

I know that.

But he doesn't love me anymore.

What's the point of being queen?

Your Highness, please think of your sons.

It's not too late.

Ask for forgiveness and get the ornament back.

Do it for the two princes.

Chuh-sun.

Queen Insoo is about to torture Beodeul.

What?

You used arsenic to kill rats?

How dare you deceive me with such lies. Did the queen tell you to lie to me?

The queen knows nothing. Believe me.

What about the thread from the doll?

Why do you have it?

I didn't know it was from the doll.

I was going to use it to get rid of the rats.

Lady Hong, go bring Lady Na over right now.

Lady Na.

Have you seen any rats recently?

No, I haven't seen any.

She said the arsenic was to kill rats. How could you not know about this?

It's utter nonsense.

Who would dare keep arsenic near a pregnant queen?

How dare you lie to me.

Torture her until she tells the truth.

We will.

Your Highness...

Your Highness!

Believe me! Save me, please!

Your Highness.

I'm telling the truth.

Queen Insoo is torturing Beodeul?

I think Beodeul hid the arsenic and thread here.

That's impossible. Why would she do that?

Something is wrong.

I'll talk to Queen Insoo.

You can't. You must be careful.

What?

Your interruption will upset her.

Beodeul's being tortured for me. You want me to ignore it?

You cannot trust anyone now.

Wait until Queen Insoo gets to the bottom of this.

I'll ask again.

Who told you to hide the poison?

I did as Mr. Jung told me to, to save the queen.

Believe me.

Mr. Jung.

Did you tell Miss Choi to admit to hiding the arsenic?

Of course not.

I told you Queen Yoon was behind all the recent atrocities.

I even risked my life just to search the queen's chambers.

Why would I want to defend her?

I bet Miss Choi just wants to drag me into it because it went wrong.

Will you bet your life on it?

As many times as you wish.

Miss Choi won't survive the torture. You must stop Queen Insoo.

How can I...

stop her from questioning one of her own subordinates?

It's our duty to protect the royal family.

Will you just sit and watch the queen be framed?

I get your point, but we have no right to pass a verdict.

If you're that worried, ask for your father's help.

He's the only one who can help.

Are you ready to tell the truth?

Your Highness... Please believe me...

You need some more persuading.

Torture her a bit more.

Please save me.

Your Highness!

I'll tell you everything. Please stop!

Alright.

If you tell me the truth, I'll let you live.

Who told you to hide the poison? Was it the queen?

Why won't you answer me?!

Queen Yoon... gave the order.

She told me... to buy the poison.

The queen told her to hide it?

Yes.

But instead of admitting it, she talked back to me and lied.

We must show the queen that no one gets away with that.

But...|

the fact that she did so...

doesn't prove she planned everything else.

Your Majesty.

Why do you think she needed the poison?

Don't you see that...

no one will ever be safe for as long as she's in the palace?

The only way to end this...

is by sending her away from the palace.

But dethroning the heir's mother will threaten his legitimacy.

She's the root of all our troubles.

We must do it when the prince is still young.

But we can't be sure what the ministers will think of this.

If the king is resolute, the ministers won't be able to object.

We must ask their opinion first.

Your Majesty, ask the ministers what they think.

We must go with the flow...

and accept the king's decision, whatever happens to the queen.

Yes, sir.

But Mr. Kim insists on protecting her.

I'll take care of him. You focus on your job.

Let's go.

He comes by often. Something must be wrong.

It's nothing worth worrying about.

I trust that...

you'll help the queen as you promised.

It could've been worse than this. You'll be fine in a few months.

Thank you.

Why did you tell her about the arsenic?

Mr. Jung said it would help the queen.

What?

I didn't think he'd stab me in the back either.

- How far are you going to go?! - How dare you barge in!

It's alright, leave us.

What brings you here?

Why are you framing the queen?

Why are you being so evil?

I suggest you ask your father.

What?

I'm just doing as I'm told.

Mr. Jung!

You alienated the queen, and now you're turning me against my father?!

Mr. Jo knows about everything that happened,

even the curses and miscarriage.

Will you believe me if I tell you that he's the one who brought Sulyoung back?

He knows he can't...

prevent the queen's deposal.

How could you do this?

How could you send Sulyoung away and let the queen take the blame?

Queen Yoon's life is in danger.

Why are you keeping quiet when you know the truth?

Please tell me I'm wrong.

Rebuke me for being rash and misunderstanding you.

You're right.

I knew everything.

No... That's impossible.

You taught me that it's our duty to remain loyal.

There's no way you would just let the queen be deposed.

I won't make an excuse.

But it was all for our department.

I need you to know that.

I don't understand.

Why is our department so important?

Why should the queen get deposed?

Chuh-sun!

How dare you insult me.

I'm disappointed in you.

I wanted to respect you and be like you.

You've let me down.

I trusted you.

But how...

How could you... ?

I don't want to see you for the time being.

Please go home.

I'll move out in a few days.

I'll return home tonight.

But don't say you'll move out. This is your home now.

You did very well.

We're one step closer to our goal now.

Thank you.

The king and queen have drifted apart,

but they'd been in love for over ten years.

You have much to do if you're to persuade the king.

Don't worry.

It'll be like chopping down a tree that's already falling.

I believed you when you said I was the love of your life.

Those words helped me through many hardships.

But what use is my title as queen when you love me no more?

I'd rather you depose me and send me away.

Let's discuss Queen Yoon's deposal.

As you know, I have no intention of deposing her.

I need you to tell my mother why you're against it.

I'm sorry, but...

I heard she did things no one should, let alone a queen.

I am for her deposal.

What?

So am I. The queen...

cursed your mother, caused a miscarriage,

and was plotting something else until they found the arsenic.

No queen...

has ever been deposed before.

You must investigate further.

I heard they already did.

You must accept the verdict and punish her accordingly.

Even if she did those things,

she bore the king's heir.

We must tread carefully.

Minister Uh is right.

She did do evil, but you can demote her, then reinstate her later.

How can you demote and reinstate a queen?

You must depose her and make an example of her.

That's enough!

Let me think about it.

Now even the ministers are discussing my fate.

Not everyone supports your deposal.

I'm sure it'll just end as a discussion.

I was born and raised poor. I don't mind returning to that life.

But I will miss my two sons.

You must be strong.

I'm sure the king will defend you.

Mother, why are you pushing this?

If you don't throw her out, I'll leave.

But why... ?

I can forgive her for deceiving me.

But if Yoong becomes crown prince, she'll scorn me even more.

So make up your mind.

Is it me or her? It's up to you.

What did I say?

The arrogant queen is now grasping at a straw.

You helped me take revenge.

Thank you.

The queen's still here,

so we have work to do.

I'll do anything you say.

Queen Junghee, please help Queen Yoon.

We can't replace a queen, no matter how grave her crime.

I know how you feel.

But Queen Insoo is adamant, and she even found proof.

You're the eldest member of the family.

The queen will stand a chance if you defend her.

Your Highness, the concubines are here.

Let them in.

What brings you all here?

Please depose the queen.

Depose the queen.

What?

How dare you dishonor your queen...

and upset Queen Junghee.

Leave us.

We're putting our own lives on the line.

We can bear the queen abusing us out of jealousy,

but cursing Queen Insoo and hiding poison is beyond forgiveness.

Please accept our petition.

Depose Queen Yoon.

Depose Queen Yoon.

What is it?

Everyone supports the queen's deposal.

Everyone but the king, at the moment.

You're the only one to persuade him.

Why are you saying this?

It's to save your son.

What?

After the queen's deposal, Queen Insoo will punish him for defending the queen.

But if you help by persuading the king,

she won't be able to do so.

What do you care about Chuh-sun?

I know why you didn't throw me out of the department.

You could have if you'd wanted to,

and that would've killed me.

Why do you think I didn't throw you out?

You still need me because your son isn't ready to lead the department yet.

You're using me to help Chuh-sun grow...

to be the son you want.

This isn't about me.

This is about saving your son.

What about when he's ready to take over?

I'll have to fight and take over...

before he kicks me out.

What do you mean, I can't see her?

No one can enter the queen's chambers.

I'm here...

with a present.

I won't be long, so let me in.

Not even you may enter.

How come I can't?

Lady Na, how dare you forbid her from entering.

Step aside.

Queen Insoo forbade anyone from entering.

What?

I'm still queen of this nation. Yet she grounds me and forbids visitors?

How could she?

I'm sorry.

Mr. Jo.

Did you just say that you'll persuade the king?

If I do and the king decides to depose Queen Yoon,

will you promise to leave my dept. and my son alone?

You want to make a deal with me?

I know you already made a deal with Minister Han regarding the deposal.

What?

We promise to serve you as best we can.

Once the queen leaves the palace for good,

my son will have no reason to go against you.

Do I have your word?

Sure.

But end it within three days, before the queen's birthday.

Can you really make the king change his mind?

However far the king and queen have drifted apart,

deep in their hearts, they still love each other. How could I?

Then why'd you make the deal?

There's only one person who could change the king's mind.

How impressive.

You come in here when even my mother got turned back.

So, what brings you here?

You've been framed and are on the verge of being deposed.

Do you know who's behind this?

I don't, but I have a guess why they are doing it.

Tell me. Why are they after me?

They're not after you. They're after Prince Yoong.

What? Prince Yoong?

They feel threatened by him,

so they want to get rid of you first.

That won't happen.

I'll prove my innocence for the prince's sake.

The poison and Miss Choi's confession won't be enough to depose you.

But for as long as you are queen,

you and your sons will suffer from all kinds of schemes.

That...

will threaten your sons' future.

Are you telling me to leave?

The decision is yours to make.

What will happen to my sons if I leave?

Queen Insoo will protect them.

Is accepting the deposal all I can do?

You'll be able to return when Prince Yoong is old enough.

Do I have your word that you'll protect Yoong?

I'll protect him with my life.

Why did you visit Queen Yoon?

I told her to accept her deposal.

How could you neglect your duty to side with the ministers?

Do you still think you're a true eunuch?

Mr. Kim, you misunderstood everything.

It's my fault if you think of me like that.

I won't make excuses.

I truly regret... becoming your son.

Your Majesty, Queen Yoon is here.

Let her in.

You're grounded. What brings you here?

This will be the last time that I disobey Queen Insoo.

Your Majesty...

Please... depose me.

How can you say that?

You're making a terrible man out of me.

I served you, my love, as a concubine.

And I even got to become queen.

But I guess I didn't have what it takes to be queen.

You got into fights with your mother because of me...

and the ministers don't like me.

Even the palace is in disarray.

I have let everyone down.

I can't stay here any longer.

If you still love me one little bit,

please depose me.

Why don't you think about the princes?

I made this decision for their sake.

Queen Yoon...

Please don't make me beg.

I can't believe you're making me throw you out.

I will hold no grudge against you.

Please let me go.

Will you take it?

I'll remember the day you gave it to me.

I'd like to see Yoong one last time.

Will you give me your permission?

Please become a wise king.

Mother... Mother...

Please be well...

I will take care of you...

Yoong, you must become a wise king.

I will pray that you grow up and succeed your father.

Chuh-sun.

Do you know how I feel?

Your Highness.

You mustn't leave like this.

Don't cry.

I'm not leaving for good. Don't be sad.

Look after my sons.

You're the only one I can entrust them to.

Care for them like you cared for me.

Trust me.

I will protect them with my life.

Thank you. Now I can leave in peace.

Bring the queen.

Queen Junghee has summoned you.

I'm here, Your Highnesses.

Your Highness, please read her verdict.

I don't think I can do it.

You do it instead.

In 1 4 7 9, Queen Yoon...

will be deposed and live as a commoner.

Yoon became Queen after Queen Gonghye's death in 1 4 7 4.

It was because she had produced an heir.

But her arrogance took over, she abused the concubines,

and went on outings out of jealousy.

She even kidnapped and tortured a woman as she couldn't control her emotions.

She went so far as to draw blood from the king's face.

Later on, Yoon even cursed Queen Insoo and...

caused a miscarriage,

which can't be forgiven.

Recently,

she ordered her maid to bring arsenic into the palace.

To punish her for her deeds and prevent future troubles,

we will depose her...

and send her out of the palace.

Do you admit to all this?

I still don't know where the thread and poison came from.

If I did curse you and Royal Lady Yoon,

and caused a miscarriage,

then you can kill me right now.

I don't know who is framing me and why,

but I know I'm innocent and I'm sure the gods do too.

You refuse to admit to your crimes?

Although I am innocent, I made the king as well as...

the concubines and court ladies turn against me.

It was all because I wasn't merciful enough.

Causing chaos within the palace is a crime in itself,

so I will accept my deposal.

Take her clothes and wig off.

Bring in the litter.

Queen Junghee. Queen Insoo. Be well.

Leave.

Has Queen Yoon left?

She just got into the litter.

Your Majesty, Prince Yoong is here.

What brings you here?

Did you really depose my mother?

What?

Why did you throw her out?

Please bring her back.

She left for a reason, so you must accept it.

I'm disappointed in you.

Mother! Mother!

I will protect your sons, Your Highness.

Mother!

- Stop, Your Highness! - Mother!

Your Highness.

- Stay here. - Let go!

Let go, I'll go with my mother.

Mother! Mother!

No, mother, you can't go.

Mother!

Mother! Mother...

Mother!

Mother, don't go.

Mother!

Your crying will break your mother's heart.

Your mother will return no matter what.

So don't cry.

Do you mean that?

Yes. Your mother will return one day.

If she really will come back, I won't cry. I won't.

Mother, I won't cry. So please return.

Mrs. Yoon's litter left the palace.

We deposed her, so now we'll replace her.

Will you become the king's father-in-law?

How can you discuss this on the day the queen gets deposed?

I'm just envious, that's all.

I'm worried about the prince.

I'm afraid of what will happen if he hears about this years later.

Don't worry.

He won't be around for a long time.

Your Highness... Your Highness...

Your Highness... Your Highness...

Time has passed and the seasons changed

Days we spent together are mere memories

But my love for you is still so strong

I can still hear you call me

I can't forget your touch, your breath

I yearn for you, but I'm helpless

My love, please don't forget about me

Dear heavens, let my love come true

My love, please don't forget about me

Dear heavens, let my love come true

Let my love come true

Your Highness...

Mother.

Cry all you want.

No one is here to yell at you.

I guess I can't have anything at all

I bet all I had, yet I'm still alone

Perhaps I have to wait even longer

Or perhaps we just weren't meant to be

I fear life even more than death

I can't run away, I can't even hide

I pray at night, alone under the moon
