you must compete in a marathon designed to put your teamwork, strategy, and skills to the

ultimate test.

In each round of the marathon, you must tattoo a different creature of land, sea, or

sky.

And today, for the first round, you must tattoo a creature of the sea, an octopus.

A lot of circles, a lot of lines.

A lot of elements go into tattooing an octopus.

All the tentacles, suction cups.

Showing accuracy is going to be huge on this.

You can't leave anything out.

For this round, you must rely on the strength of your team.

This is about being efficient, about being accurate, about getting the job done in one shot.

It's hard to put color in solid on the chest, especially in a tattoo that could be easily

traumatized.

So I just got to be careful, do what I know best, and just pack in that color solid.

The way this thing is colored is like a breath of fresh air, man.

Saturated color and then smoothly fade to that open skin.

It has a really soft, really finished look.

I do miss a little bit of the shading in the tentacle section.

You guys look a little bit unfinished in that department.

And the center of this guy, right under the eye, took a pretty heavy beating.

When you were outlining, did you get him in the outline, or did he get got in the shading?

I definitely didn't see any dugouts at all when I did the line work.

With these technical hiccups, it makes this choice pretty tough.

Next up is Team Anthony.

At the top, we see some prime examples of outline wobbles.

And the color in the top of the tattoo, it's not strong enough and not soft enough.

It's simple, but it is exactly what it's supposed to be as far as accuracy goes.

It has a very strong look from across the room.

Who did what?

Frank Lyon, Deanna did the shading, and I came back in with the color work.

As a standalone tattoo, it's interesting, it's compelling, it's artistic, it's creative.

But you're competing against two teams that showed the whole animal on an accuracy challenge.

We didn't take accuracy into that, like how accurate.

OK, the size of the head versus the tentacles, none of this could fit in the jar.

Come on.

Dude, it doesn't fit in that jar.

You can cram an octopus in a jar.

You could if you chop it up and puree it.

The shape of that hind leg doesn't look like it has the strength that's going to hold this

thing up.

I just went off the anatomy of a real horse.

The connection of the wings to the horse don't appear to be the same on each side.

The wing on the right side of the tattoo looks like it's a lot lower and coming down a different

part of the horse than where the wing is connected on the other side of the tattoo.

It looks like it's pieced together.

Overall, it has that smooth, buttery feeling.

It looks consistent.

It looks like one artist did it.

The only part of this tattoo that I wish was a little bit stronger are the wings.

I feel like the wings are a little bit small for this big, heavy gentleman.

It looks like a chrome hood ornament.

It definitely has that figurine look.

You could have added a lot of motion to this tattoo and outreached the rear legs.

If nothing else, just make that tail look like it's flowing in the wind.

But showing some smooth, soft, lightly shaded areas, that's one of the things that your competitors

My whole time I've been tattooing, I've only had one person that has pushed me, and that's

my wife.

She made so many sacrifices so that I can be a tattooer and so that I can follow my dreams.

to break people down in every way I can.

Fame has a line all the way around the whole head.

The whole thing doesn't run into the neck like yours does.

If he outlines it, it's going to look like a fake head floating on a body.

I'm more known for color.

Josh is trying to turn Jeremy against Steve to try to create that ultimate chaos.

Why?

I just don't like Steve.

If I can knock them out from underneath him to where he's sitting around here twiddling his

thumbs, that's hilarious to me.

And I would laugh every day looking at him, look around sad.

But at this point, if you're the one giving Jeremy this good information, it's going to help

him more than if we just let Steve have him.

I'm just trying to get him to break away from Steve.

And then I'm going to leave him on his own.

OK, so that's a strategy on its own.

There's a lot of angles, man.

I'm trying to figure out these angles.

Mental warfare.

You can't figure all of them out because I got games against you too.

That is a strange looking shape.

And you drew it.

It doesn't look right.

Having the tools to know how to draw things is part of being Ink Master.

Today, Team Steve had to face off against each other.

Team Anthony and Team DJ are safe from elimination.

Team Steve, based on your work, one of you will be packing your machines.

Let's see how you did.

Let's start with Rolly.

I love the face of this thing.

This tattoo is super smooth.

I love the shading.

I do like the details that you get.

The spots do let me know what this beast is.

I'm happy with the tattoo.

I know it's a super clean tattoo.

I know exactly what it's going to heal like.

I know it's going to be beautiful.

The place that you fall really short for me is going to be in these paws.

This huge bubble on that paw closest to the face.

That is a strange looking shape, my man.

A paw doesn't look like that.

Big thing about tattoos like this is a lot of times the reference looks great in the photo.

But once you turn a photo into a flat 2D image on skin, you lose a lot.

And these paws in the front, I can see how you trace the reference and try to replicate it.

But it does not have the same depth, the same dimension, the same feel.

It doesn't look right.

All right, next up is fame.

I love the face on this thing.

I think you really captured a lot of the ferocity of this cat.

I just wish that there was some more contrast to bring that head forward.

You need to do a lot to make that head jump out and be visible.

If I cover the face and just look at the humpback and the rear legs, it doesn't look like

a strong, fierce animal.

Just this little bubble body, not showing any musculature, not really showing any fur, just

showing spots.

Having the tools to know how to draw things in a way that become flattering and powerful is

part of being Ape Master.

Next up is Jeremy.

You used the same reference as fame, but this face does stand apart from the body.

Where you lose it for me on accuracy are the claws.

This front paw, I don't know.

Is that another toe?

Pull up the reference and look.

I don't know.

No, man.

It's not about the reference.

You should know if you put it in there, man.

You drew it.

This is not me busting balls.

This thing doesn't have enough fingers and toes.

Paws are off.

Can't say nothing about that.

But illustration is there.

I like it.

You like it.

I like the face.

I think Jeremy's face is killer.

I think his head fits on that body.

The neck is connected to it.

It has depth.

I love the illustrative look.

I think you did hit that mark.

And the other thing that you really hit on this is the body turn.

The front shoulders are coming forward, and the butt of this thing looks farther back than

his hip.

It's a tattoo, and it's not a portrait.

It's not realism day.

This is not what I wanted at all.

These are my boys.

But the one that's worst applied to me would be Jeremy's.

The black doesn't go up all the way.

It's spotty here or there.

Jeremy has the illustrative whiskers, and neither do the other two.

Which is great, but you've got to have black up to them.

Black's got to be black.

Black whiskers aren't even realistic.

Listen, I don't want to even do this, because one of my guys goes home regardless.

But if I go with application, I think it's worst applied.

Roli's definitely got smooth to black and gray.

Roli's safe to me, so if we all agree on that.

Roli, you're safe.

So this is between Jeremy and Fame.

If I look at the anatomy of the cat and the turn of the body and the dynamics of the shapes,

100% like Jeremy's better.

There is more accuracy in Fame's claws, but I like that there's depth in Jeremy's that I'm

missing out of Fame's.

I got to vote for Fame.

Voting for Fame.

Fame.

The judges have decided, fame.

You do not have what it takes to be Ink Master.

In this competition, the fact that you were so up and down, that shows somebody who's really

fighting.

A lot of people would just play it safe.

You had two best tattoos of the day.
