On the last episode of Ink Master Shop Wars, it was every shot for itself.

Man, this is going to be tough.

As the final push to the finale began.

The winner of today's flash challenge is golden skull tattoo.

Are you going to let someone that comes in mid-wave take from you?

Eventually, all of these vets are going to slip up.

They obviously slipped up once before and lost.

In the elimination tattoo.

Rookie mistakes plagued the veterans.

The pressure of the competition is so high, and it's definitely getting to some people.

I mean, Basilica did a samurai warrior.

It's tricky to do a mask on a day where you need a whole gun.

Uh-oh, the judges are here to judge.

Oh.

Holy crap.

It is definitely the wrong hands.

Yeah.

100%, no doubt.

In the elimination.

Basilica Tattoo, Black Cobra Tattoo, and Golden Skull Tattoo were the bottom three shops.

Basilica tattoos.

Until you put that samurai's ghost in the shell, a samurai's a samurai, not a deity.

To me, that's not a tattoo that goes home.

That's a badass tattoo.

Black Cobra also did not show the deity.

When I first saw their hands on their Buddha, I knew immediately that they were backwards.

Oh, yeah.

You were the first one to tell me.

Obviously, you got the left hand on the right arm and the right hand on the left arm.

Nobody noticed until people that were hating pointed it out.

It is up.

The judges have decided Golden Skull Tattoo.

You do not have what it takes to be master shop.

Four shops remain.

But only one will earn a $200,000 prize and the title of Master

Shock.

This competition at this point is brutal.

We just saw a two-time finalist, one of the best competitors ever, go home on a couple of

bad thumbs.

Unkindness and Old Town are clearly going to have each other's backs.

They got to go.

Right.

Well, we got y'all's back.

We want to see both of our shops in the finale.

I mean, there's only one team left leaving this house.

Ultimately, I don't care who it is as long as it's one of them.

That stage is so close.

Welcome.

14 shops made up of 28 artists have all come and gone.

And you are the last four shops standing.

Crazy.

However.

Only three shops will move on to compete in the live finale for $200,000, a feature in Inked

Magazine, the title of Ink Master, and for the first time ever, the title of Master Shop.

Yeah.

This week, there will be no Flash Challenge.

You'll be judged on all of the essential skills.

technical application, detail, composition, consistency, proportion, precision.

Your shop's name is on the line, and this race is tight.

The smallest error could send you home.

We've done everything it takes to get to the end, and I'm absolutely not taking no for an

answer.

Get ready for a fight to the finish line, because to earn a spot in the live finale, you must

survive a tattoo marathon.

What the ?

This whole competition has been a .

This could mean anything.

You'll tattoo four different designs in four different styles, one right after the other.

Jumping from one tattoo straight into another with really no time in between.

It's going to be a long day.

Each shop will create one design for the marathon.

Then each shop must tattoo their own design and the three other designs created by the other

shops.

On the bottom of each skull is the name of a tattoo style.

You must design a tattoo in the style you pick.

Black and gray, American traditional, geometric, or shop's choice.

If you get shop's choice, this style is completely up to you.

Your canvases have been randomly assigned, and each artist in your shop must tattoo two of

the designs.

You'll have 90 minutes to tattoo each design on the same canvas.

For somebody in this room, this will secure your spot in the live finale.

No mistakes.

We saw what just happened.

Someone everybody thought was going to be in the finale is not in the finale because of an

oversight.

Don't let that be you.

One by one, choose a skull to determine the style your shop will be designing.

Basilica Tattoo, you're up first.

Geometric.

Geometric is something I just don't do.

Luckily, I got a guy who's known for that with me.

This guy is a genius with that .

So everybody better buckle the up.

Old Town Ink, go ahead.

Black and gray.

Yes, black and gray, something we're both very comfortable with.

Hopefully we can take out the field with this design.

Unkindness art, you're up next.

Artist choice or traditional?

Everybody is getting the thing that they would be most strong in drawing.

I'm really hoping we get artist choice.

Shop's choice.

Look who gets traditional.

American traditional.

Bam.

That's perfect for us.

We know that we can really hold these other teams up to the fire.

I think it should be something that isn't necessarily just totally obvious on how to approach

I think I might have a trick for this.

I'm going to do the line drawing on this, but leave some lines out and add some lines that

might confuse the competitors.

I couldn't imagine coming this far and then just getting kicked out.

Now you must tattoo all four designs onto one human canvas.

You have 90 minutes for each tattoo.

I'm going to give them such a complicated piece that they can barely complete in 90 minutes,

and they're going to shoot themselves in the foot.

That's a tough one.

Man, I don't get this way.

Only one more team is going home before the finale.

But the way this competition boils down, you just never know what's going to happen.

You slayed that outline so fast.

Luckily, I tattoo geometric style tattoos back home on the daily, so I'm going to kill this

tattoo.

You got the cleanest lines out of the group.

Erin would probably be the next closest.

Crazy to do this in 90 minutes.

Just make that thing clean as ,, dude.

I'm tattooing the geometric design because DJ is going to do black and gray in Illustrative

Fantasy.

The other two are left for me.

That's as simple as that.

Basilica's design seems pretty simple.

If they're trying to anybody over, then it's a pathetic attempt.

It looks like there's a couple of purposeful mistakes.

This is a really scratchy-looking stencil.

What's up with these up circles?

I get it.

It's gamesmanship.

But black and gray realism is my thing.

I'm ready to go head to head with this guy and prove who's best.

You intentionally didn't put some lines?

Well, I mean, there's lines that I'm going to add that people might not.

Somebody's going to mess around and outline one of the lines in this stencil that's supposed

to be there.

I already knew that Old Town were going to go with such a loose stencil to trip some people

up.

But more than anything, I'm nervous to be going up against Christian and BJ, because they're

all really good black and gray artists.

It's going to be a super competitive day.

That's the idea, right?

I'm curious to know if anybody else has put on any of these effects.

And I don't think they understand how much I'm going to kill this.

This week, you had to prove your shop's versatility in a tattoo marathon.

A spot in the live finale to fight for the title of master shop is on the line.

Basilica, start with you.

First up, your geometric design.

Well, Nolan, I really like this design.

Very sharp, very bright.

The colors that you chose really make the three dimensions super strong.

Next is Old Town Ink's black and gray design.

Christian, there's some areas of really rich, deep black that set it off, and then a lot of

smooth shading.

You create a real contoured image here.

Next up, Unkindness Art's fantasy illustrative design.

All right, Nolan, you need to punch that color in.

Really set it in and send it home, because this thing just doesn't have any kick to it.

It's a very flat, very washed out, seemingly old looking tattoo that's brand new.

Finally, black cobra tattoos, American traditional design.

Christian, you definitely use the right color palette.

You have nice peppery black shading on the edge of the banners and in the horseshoe.

I think overall you have four good tattoos.

The eye is really shining out of these four.

As a team, y'all did nice work today.

Old Town Ink.

First up is Basilica's geometric design.

What makes these designs really cool is that they play tricks with your eyes.

And I think you lose that with these tones being so similar.

Today, your approach was just off.

Next, your black and gray design.

DJ, I think it's lacking the rich areas of black and the depths to create the contours.

The only place you have real solid concentrated black is the very center dot of the people.

This kind of thing is what Christian is really, really good at.

And you gave slow pitch for him to hit it right out of the park.

Unkindness Arts fantasy illustrative design.

DJ, we put some extra flair into it with the little button nose, the fuller lips, and the

open ending on the collar so it comes out more subtle from the bottom.

That was a smart touch.

Black Cobra Tattoos, American traditional design.

The black area of highlight that's on the edge of horseshoe is not smooth across the whole

thing.

The green in the leaves, the red in the flowers is also not a solid, bright, punched, and

consistent color.

Overall, you guys have an off day.

You don't have that killer day that you need to lock it up.

Let's start with Basilica's Geometric.

Aaron, this tattoo does not look like you had anything to do with it.

A lot of line work problems.

You have a lot of curves, swoops, dips, bubbles, dents.

This is the most challenged line work of any of the four geometric tattoos today.

Old Town inks, black and gray.

Well, Aaron, I would say you're in the middle of the road on this one.

That big, bold outline around the outside of the iris was a little bit too much.

A softer ending on that pupil would have been smarter.

I let myself get in my own head today.

It looks like you at half speed.

It doesn't look like full blast you.

Next is Doom's fantasy illustrator.

You set yourself up for everybody to make changes, and people made it more aesthetically pleasing.

A lot of people change the chin, make it a little cuter.

If somebody else is going to take your design and make a change that makes it better, that

knocks you down a notch.

Black Cobra Tattoos, American Traditional.

Doom, overall, the outline gets away from you quite a bit.

The banner gets pretty wobbly.

And then also, your line work on the top leaves go up, make a U-turn, and come back down.

The bottom leaves, you whip two points together.

So you just completely change tattoo strategy in a matter of 45 minutes.

Luckily for you guys, nobody's going home off these four tattoos.

This is a bad day to have this turn out.

Black Cobra Tattoos.

First up is Basilica's geometric design.

I like this monochromatic tape with tones similar enough to be in the same spectrum, but far

enough apart to really create this 3D illusion.

These color choices look really great.

Old Town inks, black and gray.

Matt, I think the areas you put the hyper focus on are these eyelashes.

The little corner tear duct, and then the small details that you have in the center of the

eye really play nicely here.

Unkindness Arts, Fantasy Illustrator.

We made some positive changes to this design.

The hairline looks a lot better.

This hard inner bridge of the nose really gives the shape of the face.

I really like how this one came out.

Finally, KD's American Traditional.

Super solid, super clean tattoo.

The saturation of all the colors, very nice, very bright.

Definitely looking good today.

If I walked into this shop and saw this portfolio, I'd be pretty stoked.

All right, let's look at the head-to-heads.

Who won the geometric?

It's between Nolan and Katie.

100%.

Obviously.

I will say for Nolan's behalf, that thing is solid.

So is that your final decision?

The line weight on Katie is a little stronger.

I like DJ's color palette.

That's my vote.

I love what DJ did.

I love the tentacles.

But as an overall finished piece, I prefer Matt's as well.

Finally, Black Cobra Tattoo's American traditional.

The two to debate over are Katie and Christian.

But I like Christian's a little more muted green and yellow versus Katie's grass green and

gold.

Christian, no-brainer.

All right, winner of the head-to-head on American Traditional is Basilica Tattoo.

That means we have two wins for Basilica Tattoo and two wins for Black Cobra Tattoo.

But we came here today to put one shop in the finale.

So is there a clear winner of the marathon?

Both sides had definite great moments, and both sides had definite challenges.

They knew that we got hit hard from a raven already from the judges.

And color realism in six hours, this is stuff that takes multiple sittings.

So they're trying to screw us, too.

history, you must prove the collective strength of your shop.

I am definitely apprehensive that what we will be putting forth is not going to be enough.

But at the same time, I respect Zoom as my teammate, and I trust his instincts.

Today, you had to tag team tattoo two canvases at the same time, proving your strength as

a shop.

One of you will move on to fight for the title of Master Shop, and for one of you, this is

the end of the line.

Unkindness art, let's start with you.

Let's start off with Doom's American Traditional.

Doom, this is one of your better pieces.

The line work on this is really strong.

Very simple color palette, very strong blacks, and you did get the whip shade effect in there.

You got the blunt black to red to open skin, just the way that it's supposed to be done.

My problem is this tattoo could have just been bigger.

I actually wanted to go bigger.

It's not a six hour tattoo.

Let's move along to the next piece from Unkindness Art.

Really clean, really simple, beautiful, but the simplicity is the detail here.

The details of the three reindeers across the top are awesome.

The little drawings of their faces, that's a really shining moment in this tattoo.

The idea overall to tie that in with the foreground to bring this idea that this is a deer

girl to life, I think it's very cool.

She's really beautiful.

You knocked this completely out of the park.

This is what you needed to compete.

You both show off technical application.

Really clean, beautiful, and this is the best day for you guys as a team.

Unkindness handed you the raven.

What I like about this piece is that I can feel the realism if I were to run my finger over

it.

The fur in the head is almost touchable.

The only areas that I have issues with are the upper layers of these wings that lose the same

detail that you have throughout the piece.

The top left shoulder of the bird could have blended in a little more.

But for a six-hour tattoo, this was a big, big challenge.

It's stylistic.

It's strong.

It's bold.

But more than anything, it's the best snake we've seen in Ink Master.

I think that Unkindness did a great job today, super diverse.

I took it as a personal challenge to restrain.

It's hard for me to say that, because I tell people, don't go too big.

But today, it comes down to who did what and who did the most.

As a team, you guys created two beautiful tattoos.

The only thing that was a downfall was that we are so new to this competition that sometimes

it got into our heads and prevented us from fully spreading our wings.

pull through and get to the point that we did.

The six of you have earned the right to fight for your shop in the live finale.

But only one shop will earn $200,000, a feature in Inked Magazine, and the title of Ink Master.

Since this is the biggest prize in Ink Master history, to earn it, you'll have to face a vicious

test of skill and endurance.

Each shop will be assigned two master canvases.

Over the next several months, you must complete 70 hours of tattooing.

That is two 35-hour back pieces.

Wow.

That is a ton of tattooing.

For your first master canvas, you'll tattoo black and gray.

For the second, you'll tattoo color.

This is best case scenario.

Black and gray, I'm going to nail this thing.

And Nolan is a beast with color.

We are going to destroy this.

The entire competition, you've had to prove you can work together as a shop.

This is no different.

You'll have five seven-hour sessions with your master canvas.

And after every session, you must switch which back piece you tattoo, picking up where your

teammate left off.

DJ and I have a great team.

We work off each other really well, swapping every session.

We just have to make sure we're on the same page, make sure we keep the end goal in sight.

But that is not all.

Why would it be?

In addition to your master canvases, one artist from your shop will also create a six-hour

tattoo at the finale live.

America has been assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each artist in your shop.

And now it's their turn to decide which artist will tattoo.

Doing these tattoos live, you're under so much pressure, makes it super difficult.

These three tattoos stand between you and the first ever title of Master Shop.

The only thing stopping you is yourself.

So you've got to unleash and really put out the best thing you can here.
