And when it comes to this fixture,
always won it as a manager.

He treated every game

of his psychological strength

in terms of someone chipping away at him.

It's personal.

We were football enemies
in the sense we fight for the same cup,

for the same league,
for the same Champions League.

I think it's a good thing.

Josep Guardiola is
a fantastic soccer coach,

but he won a Champions League

that I would be ashamed to win.

In this room, he's the fucking boss.
The fucking master.

The one who knows the most in the world,

and I don't even want to compete
for a single moment.

That situation was complicated because
of course I was the captain of Madrid

and also of the Spanish national team.

What happened was
you were up against teammates

who were your enemies

When I left Real Madrid,

I signed with Manchester United
to go to Manchester United after Sir Alex.

He was offered the job, yes.

In terms of his reputation
within the game now,

I think we'll see a different
José coming back.

I had a little hope
that I could have the time,

um, the space,

to create a dynasty.

I would say that is impossible.

And when that doesn't happen

is when he, um... he feels

let down.

The club he had
at Chelsea when he first came

was this young group together.

We needed a couple additions,

When he came back, it was different.

We had a lot of manager change.

A manager brought players,
so there was not harmony

that he walked into
in the first place and probably desire.

Players had changed.

Were they receptive to his behaviors
and his demands? No.

Was he gonna change?

No, because I had
that conversation with him.

He was like, "My approach has worked
for the last 20 years."

"Why do I have to take my level down
to somebody else's level?"

"I need and want people
at 100% for me to win."

José is not scared
to say something in front of everyone.

He's gonna tell you, "You're bad."

And when you're just beginning... ...not easy.

He said, "I want to tell you one thing."

"You know oranges?
When you put them in a basket?"

"When one is bad

and it touches all the oranges,

they all become bad."

"So don't become a bad orange."

And then left.

He'd press people's buttons.
Knew how to press mine.

He knew how to press Lamps's

and get the best
and suck every last bit out of everyone.

You put pressure.

And top players with pressure,
they become bigger.

Quite a distance out.

It hasn't deterred him, and that's why!

And he turns and runs towards his mentor.

What he did was probably use
some psychological trick on me

to try and get it out of me.

That makes it sound cynical,
but I don't care.

Looking back, that's management.

You try and get the best out of people.

I think for him, it was a game.

I don't know,
but I think it was a kind of game.

Everything was a game.

He would do anything to win,
so it's exactly what he did.

The mayhem here,
it's falling around their ears.

I think sometimes,
I can be pretty aggressive,

but I never did it to enjoy myself.

I never did it with the intention to hurt.

But when you are in your privacy

And we, as champions,

we lost it.

We were the best team,
but, uh, that's not enough.

An early marker laid down

at the end of a very difficult week
for Mourinho and Chelsea.

the second time.
