the man behind
one of Sweden's largest financial crimes,

in what came to be known
as the Trustor scandal.

The brains behind the suspected fraud
is a 33-year-old Stockholmer.

The key figure in the affair,
Joachim Posener.

Joachim Posener,

the man suspected
of being the brains behind the fraud.

Joachim Posener is wanted by Interpol.

Rumor has it
that he got away with 100 million,

has had plastic surgery,

and has lived in all corners of the world.

The police have a new lead
on Posener's whereabouts.

There was talk about Moscow,

Tel Aviv, Rio de Janeiro…

…Barbados, Iraq,
and other countries have been mentioned.

A reward was announced
for tips leading to an arrest.

And the police
received information of all kinds.

Like that he had a ponytail,

very large feet,

spoke in a Scanian dialect,

drank Pepsi,

and that he was in the Big Brother house.

But Joachim Posener was never found.

What happened was that he and four others

managed to buy
the investment company Trustor…

with Trustor's own money.

This is unprecedented in the history
of the Swedish stock exchange.

Several hundred million
from Trustor's cash reserves

have been traced to bank accounts
across the world.

One of the biggest financial frauds
in Sweden to date.

But how did this happen?

Who did what,

and what happened to those involved?

INSIDE THE TRUSTOR SCANDAL

You couldn't have foreseen,

when entering into this deal,

that it would turn into this mess.

"This mess"
has been investigated for years,

and there's been drawn-out conflicts

between those involved.

To bring clarity,
I've reached out to those who concocted

or just happened
to get caught up in all this.

One of them
is the consultant Thomas Jisander,

the guy parallel parking the Ferrari.

Now, looking back,

you might think
I should've known what was going on.

But I didn't.

I've also met with the deputy CEO,
who still hasn't recovered.

Something's broken in my brain.
I haven't slept since 1997.

And the investigative journalist.

I felt that something wasn't right.

And the officer who worked the case.

I'm extremely upset that we didn't catch

the key figure behind the Trustor scandal.

What the hell…

And lastly, the old hand in finance

who tried to clean up the mess.

It's one thing to be tough in business,

but when it comes to criminals,

I have no scruples.

And then there's Joachim Posener,

who neither Swedish police nor Interpol

could find during all these years.

No one's heard his version,

whether it was worth the cost

of leaving his family and child behind
to live in hiding.

After many attempts,

I managed to obtain an email address

belonging to Joachim Posener.

that I wanted to find out the truth,

he finally replied.

somewhere in Europe.

What are the terms for this meeting?

And even though it's been 30 years,

I should look somewhat the same.

The first meeting was in a public place,

where Joachim Posener
could see us from a distance.

The deal was to only film him from behind.

But no one knows what he looks like now.

Hi, I'm Joachim.

There are very few
published photos of Joachim Posener.

A deliberate strategy
for someone who doesn't want to be found.

While on the run,
he gave one TV interview.

But since the police were looking for him,

he didn't want to show his face.

And he lied his way through it.

You've been identified
as the brains behind the deal.

Were you?

No, absolutely not.

I wasn't involved in any of this.

I entered the picture in August.

Before that, I…

You haven't wanted to talk about
what happened before.

Why are you doing it now?

Now that the crimes are statute-barred,

there's no reason to hold back anymore.

The people involved

had their own motives
for getting involved in the deal.

To me, it was about making money,

and thereby becoming successful.

Money gives you a kind of freedom,

and it's a confirmation
of whether you're successful or not.

But even as a kid,

I was fascinated
by big yachts and nice cars.

I dreamt of becoming very rich.

I wanted to be able to charter a yacht
after a successful deal,

sit on deck with a drink in hand,
and feel like I'd done a good job

and made money.

I deserve to live out
that childhood dream.

My dream was
to get into the financial sector.

I was obsessed
with getting into the financial sector.

I used to sell ERP systems.

Wherever I worked,
I was usually the best salesman.

But I wanted to be the boss.

Which was a crazy goal,

because it turns out
I'm not a very good boss.

Back in the day,

if you had a yacht,

it had to be 30–35 meters

for someone to call their boat a yacht.

Now it's increased.

I wouldn't call it a yacht
unless it's at least 50 meters.

Otherwise,
you definitely can't call it a yacht.

Go big or go home.

Joachim Posener
had other motives for the deal.

After our first meeting,

we agreed to continue meeting

in various places in Europe.

Yup.

You got me here.

I'm not allowed to film his face.

At least not at first.

There is one rule,

no questions about his family.

It's a rule I'll come to bend a bit.

I still control
every little detail of my life.

It becomes a habit

when you live on the run.

If you want to be successful on the run,
you have to be gray,

uninteresting and invisible,

disappear in the crowd.

Not attract any attention.

While I was wanted,

I lived almost like a secret agent.

I sacrificed my family and my life
for the sake of freedom.

Not for the money.

Have you been to Sweden
in the last 30 years?

Not once.

Why didn't you return?

I couldn't bring myself
to serve another maximum sentence.

I barely made it through
the last prison term.

"The last prison term" refers to the one
Joachim Posener served

before the Trustor affair.

In the late 1980s,
when the financial market was booming,

22-year-old Joachim Posener

had started dealing
with stocks and options.

He offered creative tax solutions.

At first, business went brilliantly,

and the millions were rolling in.

I wanted respect in the industry,
even though I didn't really belong there.

I was young and wanted to be
part of the financial elite.

I wanted everything, and I wanted it fast.

I took some shortcuts.
I didn't have time for the long route.

I didn't even finish law school.

My fear was
to have lived this life unnoticed,

without leaving a mark.

This led me to wanting
to do more and bigger things,

and somehow mark my presence
on this earth.

Joachim Posener and a friend
started the investment company Thul,

with offices at fancy addresses

in Stockholm and Copenhagen.

The only problem was they didn't have
money to do business with.

In 1991, there was a financial crisis,

which made it impossible to get a loan.

But I came up with a way
to use rigged options.

It doesn't have to exist.
It just has to look like it exists.

I had invented a way to create
as many assets as I wanted on paper.

That led to us acquiring
four listed companies in Denmark.

But at the same time,

we'd taken a big step
onto the wrong side of the law.

I'd bought a house.

I'd just had a daughter.

And life was great.

And then the doorbell rings.

And it's the police.

From this house, two Swedes tried
to drain millions from the municipality.

The key figures were sentenced
to six and four and a half years

in one of the most unbelievable tales
of financial crime.

POSENER, JOACHIM RALPH
NORRTÄLJE PRISON

Joachim Posener
was permanently expelled from Denmark

and sentenced to six years in prison

for aggravated fraud and tax evasion.

It came as a shock

to receive such a severe sentence

to be served in such a tough prison.

I was 29 years old when I got locked up.

It was…

a social catastrophe.

I lost my house, wife, child, custody…

Everything was gone.

It was a nightmare,
going from this upper middle-class life

and driving a BMW to work,

to this misery,
with blood and vomit on the walls.

Norrtälje prison.

It was one of Sweden's toughest prisons

with extreme security measures.

It's not for me.

It's for people that are too dangerous
to be around others.

I wasn't in the financial world anymore.

You're constantly afraid.

If you look at the wrong guy
the wrong way at the wrong time,

you get beat up.

They're used to fighting. I'm not.

But I learned one thing
from this experience.

And that was that I never wanted
to experience it again.

Yet it was in prison,

first in Norrtälje
and later in an open facility,

that Joachim Posener
began planning his next move.

What would become the Trustor affair.

Within a week,
I was thinking about how to do it again.

But better.

My mission was to get revenge

and eventually become legit.

I had made it my specialty

to buy companies without funding.

And that was the plan this time as well.

I needed to prove to myself
that it could work,

that I could buy companies
with their own money

without breaking the law.

So I started looking for a listed company,

where I could buy the majority stake
and take control.

It should have substantial cash reserves,

and, ideally, undervalued assets.

While on leave,

I'd fill bags with financial magazines
and annual reports.

I'd walk past the guard

and smuggle them into the prison.

I made a list of potential companies.

One of those companies was Trustor,

but it could've been any company.

Since I was in prison,
I needed accomplices.

I couldn't buy listed companies.

I was persona non grata.
My name was ruined.

That's when my cousin contacted me.

JOACHIM - COUSIN THOMAS

Joachim Posener and I are cousins.

In our case,
his mother and my mother were sisters.

So we've basically known each other
our entire lives.

In October or November 1996,

Joachim Posener contacted me from prison.

He wanted me to visit him.

Thomas reached out to me

and said he wanted to visit.

So I said yes.

He started telling me about the Thul case
and what had happened.

And suddenly he says,

"If you're up to something,
I want to be in on it."

"What was it you did in Denmark?"

Joachim asked me to take part
in the deals he wanted to make.

Thomas insisted on being included,
but he knew nothing about this stuff.

He worked in ISO 9000 certification.

I mean, I was educated enough
to understand the concept,

even though I hadn't worked
in that field before.

I needed someone
to attend meetings in my stead,

and he said
he was willing to do as I said.

This was my baby, my thing.

It was very important to me
that there was only one captain.

But I had failed to anticipate

that Thomas would become money-hungry
and filled with hubris.

Welcome, welcome!

This is me.

This is the living room.

And…

There's my conference table
and dining room.

A big American couch.

And this…

This is where I keep my bubbly.

Which I drink when I'm thirsty.

Which I am quite often.

So yeah, it's a refrigerator.

And there's a pretty nice view of Monaco.

I'm going to pour myself a drink.

Oh, it's so bright.

It tastes good.

This is a mini-BBQ.

And a little fridge, a caviar fridge.

Right, let's move on.

I've got a few different coffee machines,

ice maker, etcetera.

And this is the bedroom.

Versace. Only the best.

That's it.

Two hundred square meters
in the best location.

Yeah, it feels good.

It feels fair.

The cousins grew up in good and safe
upper middle-class environments.

Jisander in Askim outside Gothenburg,

and Posener on Lidingö outside Stockholm.

JOACHIM IS GOING ICE-SKATING

I was uncool.

But I had this feeling
that anything was possible.

When was the first time
you took an unlawful loan?

I belonged to a student society.

I was 17 or 18 years old, and…

I needed to pay for something,
and they had cash.

So I took it, intending to pay it back.

But they discovered it was missing.

It was…
No, I don't remember. 10 000 kronor.

Do you think that was an early sign
of your view on loans?

It's more to do
with my view on laws and rules.

I try to follow them as best I can,

but sometimes, when they don't suit me,
I see them as guidelines.

During his leaves, Posener took liberties.

He attended business meetings in Europe,

despite not being allowed
to leave the country.

After four years,
he was released on parole.

He got out sometime in February 1997.

He needed a place to stay,

and I had an apartment I wasn't using.

So he stayed there.

Posener was still under supervision
and banned from any business activities.

But who cares if you're invisible.

I realized
that we needed more collaborators

to help us go all the way
and to open some doors.

And that's when Thomas suggested

his friend Peter Mattsson.

Peter Mattsson was from
a wealthy family in Gothenburg.

To me, Peter Mattsson's chief merit

was that he knew a British Lord,

a Lord who fit my plan perfectly.

Lord Moyne is from the successful
brewery family Guinness.

He had a seat in the House of Lords.

But as a Lord,
he was a bit of an odd character.

He wore worn-out loafers

and Rastafari bracelets.

He practiced yoga

and lived with his wife, Sue, on weekdays,

and with his mistress, Shoe, on weekends.

Business wasn't his cup of tea.

The Lord needed money.

And he'd get that

if he fronted the purchase of Trustor.

He was my hired figurehead.

With a British Lord as a front,

I knew all doors would open to us.

The financial world
was eating out of his hand.

No one in the financial world
was suspicious.

The Lord was portrayed
as a business genius with a lot of money

who wanted to invest in the Nordics.

The group could produce
a British magazine,

which listed him
as one of England's 500 richest.

What they didn't tell anyone
was that this was a factual error.

I had a frontman,

and I had my two assistants,

but a listed company needs a CEO.

It didn't really matter who it was

as long as he was compliant
and knew I'd be calling the shots.

Peter says, "You know what?
I've got a guy. He's great."

Lindsay Smallbone.

Lindsay Smallbone was from New Zealand
but lived in London,

where he moved in upper-class circles
alongside Lord Moyne.

Since he had incurred large debts,

the Trustor offer
came at an opportune time.

Team Moyne was ready.

You can't recruit better people
when you're in prison

than party boys Jisander and Mattson…

and those…

well, bumbling fools,

Lord Moyne and Lindsay Smallbone.

It was like watching a bunch of amateurs,

but back then,
you couldn't look people up,

online, on Google.

That didn't exist.

I chose wrong,

it turned out.

It could've been anyone
but Lindsay Smallbone.

He led to our downfall.

To me, they were just frontmen who I paid.

In order to afford them, and other costs,

I borrowed money in the underworld.

There was no one else I could borrow from.

Hardened criminals
that I'd met at Norrtälje prison.

I offered them 20 million

if they lent me one million kronor.

You didn't mess with them.
They were dangerous.

To not succeed

was no longer an option.

In the spring of 1997,
another person was brought onto the team.

But the recruitment process was informal,
to say the least.

I met Thomas Jisander
in front of a mirror at the gym.

I was there doing some bicep curls.

We were sizing ourselves up
and talking to ourselves in the mirror.

There was another guy
talking to himself, praising his biceps.

"Damn good biceps," or whatever he said.

After a while, we thought
we might as well talk to each other.

That's how we became friends.

Thomas said he had something in the works

and that I could be a part of it.

I was so happy to change industries.

I wanted to get into finance.

This allowed me to make that career move.

I've had one dream since I was little,

and that was to have a house,
my own house.

So my motivation's always been
my wish to build a house.

It wasn't money I was after, but a house.

And I've worked very hard to achieve that.

You can tell I have an inferiority complex

by the size of my house.

I was raised by a single mother
who cleaned hotel rooms.

She did a great job,
but we never had any money.

When you meet other kids
who get bikes and mopeds and…

I never got anything.

It wasn't because my mom was stingy.

She simply couldn't afford it.

And later on, I was placed in foster care.

Unfortunately,
the napkins won't match perfectly,

but it'll be good enough.

At Trustor,
my role was to serve as deputy CEO

and head of office

at the office in Stockholm.

In the spring of '97,
I knew nothing about Joachim Posener.

I later found out that he'd been involved
in a financial mess,

but I wasn't aware of that then.

All of my frontmen knew everything.

They knew who I was,
that I was Joachim Posener.

They knew that I was the one
buying Trustor.

If you group everyone together
and think that everyone knew everything…

You're wrong. It wasn't like that.

Both Djursén and Jisander
knew there was no funding.

At that time, no one knew

that the company was bought
with its own money.

They knew I bought the company
with its own money.

So again, everyone knew everything.

But everything leads back to me.

Since I'm the one who did it.

You've agreed to show your face.

Why are you ready now?

I decided I want to do it wholeheartedly.

I own what I've done.

I'll show myself now,

but then I'll disappear again.

The plan was great.

But you can't control everything.

When negotiations with Trustor
began in the spring of 1997,

Joachim Posener stayed in the background.

I got very good at managing
my assistants remotely.

It was like a little…

a little puppet show.

I called Thomas and told him what to say.

And he did great.

He was obedient, a quick learner,
and easy to control.

So Thomas's job was to be my assistant.

I mean, I wasn't just a mouthpiece.

Many small decisions
had to be made there and then.

I get calls daily
from my gangster friends,

demanding prompt repayment.

So I need to close a deal.

But how would Posener

convince Trustor's founder and owner,
Per-Olov Norberg,

to let go and sell the company?

Trustor was an investment company,

meaning a business
that bought and sold other companies.

And its portfolio held
several valuable assets.

For a long time, the owner, Norberg,

had undervalued these assets.

He was willing to sell on one condition,

if he could buy back some of the assets
at a favorable price.

I'd let him have what he wanted

if he gave me what I wanted.

He'd get to buy back Trustor's assets.

And with that sale,
I'd bring cash into the company.

Again, I didn't have any money.

Joachim Posener
only needed to buy 17% of the shares

to take control of all of Trustor.

These were the superior class A shares,

and by obtaining them,
he'd get majority holding in the company

and get access to the cash reserves.

I needed a short-term loan.

The price tag for the shares
was a quarter of a billion kronor.

If I could borrow that amount overnight,

I could pay for the purchase,

take control of the cash reserves,

and use it to quickly repay the loan.

Twenty-four hours was all I needed
in order to carry out the deal.

Joachim asks me to find a financier.

I managed to find a billionaire
who was willing to lend money.

It's essentially bridge financing.

That's perfectly legal.

The loan was secured,

but a legal issue arose.

A principal owner or board member
of a listed company

can't buy the company's assets.

I solved that
by having Norberg resign before the deal.

That also gave me an unexpected advantage.

Suddenly, I had a five-day grace period
for the payment

and no longer needed Thomas's billionaire.

After this, Joachim says to me

that the financier I found
is no longer needed.

Joachim has come up with another solution.

Joachim Posener had set up
a "get first, pay later" arrangement.

But it created two serious problems.

The purchase price of 241 million

leaves a hole in Trustor's cash reserves
that needs to be covered.

And buying a company with its own money

is illegal.

Everything was ready.

The only thing missing
was Lord Moyne's signature.

Then I realized
I had a big decision to make.

I haven't managed to finalize my solution
that's going to make it legal.

I know that, but I do it anyway.

So I take a gamble.

This is where we differ.

I wouldn't have made that choice.

I was convinced this would work.

JUNE 12, 1997

When the contract with Norberg
is to be signed,

I'm not there.

But I've micromanaged
the meeting beforehand.

Everyone knows what to do,
and everyone does it.

The day the agreement is to be signed…

It's done at the office
of Erik Penser Corporate Finance.

They'd gathered Per-Olov Norberg,
the seller,

Lord Moyne, the buyer…

I was there as a consultant,
Peter Mattsson was there,

and Erik Penser himself
and his three coworkers.

I'm in my room,
waiting for a call confirming it's done.

I didn't have the slightest suspicion

that anything was wrong,

given that it was sanctioned
at all levels.

And finally, the call comes.

It's Thomas.

"It's done, Jocke!"

When the agreement was signed that day,

it was a fantastic moment for everyone.

It was fait accompli.

It was signed. The deal was done.

Right, now…

Now it's champagne o'clock!

Finally, after four years,
the deal had come together.

And then it was just, "Wow, I'm back."

There we go.

Now Team Moyne had access
to Trustor's cash reserves.

But the plan wasn't fully executed yet.

The next step was to arrange the payment.

And they have five days to do it.

Posener sent the gang to a bank in London

to open new accounts.

Damn, this is the place.

The same day they walk in there,

Richard Djursén
walks into S-E-Banken in Stockholm.

I was 35 years old

and got to be part of a transaction
of 620 million kronor.

I thought,
"I'm finally in the financial industry."

That's what I wanted to be.

Richard Djursén transferred
Trustor's money from the bank in Sweden

to the bank in England.

The money was sent
to Thomas Jisander's account,

and then on to Lord Moyne,

who then could pay the former owner.

So it looked as if the Lord was the buyer.

What makes it illegal

is me telling Thomas to send money

from Trustor's account to his own account,

then on to Lord Moyne,

who then pays Norberg
with the company's own money.

I wasn't that involved in that.

Joachim claims to have financing in place,

and I'm instructed
to open an agent account at Barclays Bank

to receive money
from the financier in question.

Who that is, I don't know.

But you knew
you didn't have any financiers.

-No, how am I supposed to know that?
-You two still talked, right?

The money comes from the financier.
That's how I see it.

I send them to Lord Moyne,

who pays Per-Olov Norberg.

Very straightforward.

The deal was done. Trustor was mine.

I sat on a plane, and I looked around.

Everything was good in my life,
and I owned Trustor.

And I thought,

"No one knows it…

but I'm the richest
and most powerful person on this plane."

Trustor's cash reserves
were filled to the brim,

with nearly one billion.

If I'd wanted to take the money and run,

that was the moment to do it.

But I had a different plan.

I wanted to build a corporate empire.

The location for the new corporate empire
was London.

Joachim Posener had figured out
that living abroad

meant no probation officer.

To get established, Team Moyne
enlisted the help of a local talent.

Skål!

The first task was to find an office.

Our office was here.

And it was

"the place to be" in London at the time.

And my room was that one,

at the top, with its own terrace.

We fought over that room.

Everyone wanted it, but I won.

There, I could sit and listen
to meetings going on next-door,

instructing Thomas over the phone

so he would say what I wanted him to.

So I asked Michael Wynn-Parker
to help furnish the office.

It had to be luxurious.
It had to be "investment banking."

It had to be top-notch.

To me, the appearance
was really important.

Because I knew that opened
new doors and new opportunities.

It was expensive as hell.

Apparently, it had been
at the Palace of Versailles.

It was nice. I wonder what happened to it.

Everyone on Team Moyne
charged a fee for their work.

It's not illegal in itself,

but what stood out
was the size of the amounts.

Money was transferred

to banks with high secrecy
around the world.

And transfers were also made
to girlfriends and family members.

Ahead of the half-year accounts,

they managed to hide
the hole in the cash reserves

with the help of a bank in Luxembourg,

that could arrange a "window dressing",

meaning an overnight loan.

They started living lavishly
after the deal.

Very lavishly.

Joachim Posener lived in a hotel.

Thomas Jisander and Peter Mattsson
decorated a shared apartment.

It was an amazing penthouse
with a wraparound terrace,

a view of all of London and Hyde Park,

grand parlors and gold faucets.

My bedroom was all Versace.
I was totally into the Versace thing.

Versace bedspreads, Versace cushions,
Versace dressing gowns…

And so on.

Amazing apartment.

We were going to split up for the summer,
take a break and wait until the fall

for the work to start in earnest.

I told Thomas, "Lie low."

Celebrating should be fun, not boring.

How do you have fun?
By doing what your body tells you to.

Here we are, on Pampelonne Beach,

27 years later.

It's a bit exciting

to "walk the plant."

It's kind of fun.

A little nerve-wracking, but exciting.

Now we're getting close to the beach

where we partied after the amazing deal.

The bar was here. From there…

We did a good job.

…to here.

I was paid well for my effort.

It was very well-earned money.

It was a square structure.

Then you want to celebrate.

We do that with a yacht down on the coast.

Wake up. It's time to pop the cork.

We boarded that boat in late June,
if I remember correctly.

We had it for almost two months.

The boat had a helicopter pad.

The idea wasn't to fly 200 meters
from the boat to the beach,

but that's exactly why it was so fun.

You keep wanting to raise the bar.
"What are we doing this time?"

So then I dressed up
to spice things up a bit.

I put on a bra, high heels,

and big Elton John-style glasses,

to the deafening music from Star Wars.

So we flew from here.

In there. What is it, 500 meters?

Up in the air.

The only place to land
was the roof of the bar.

The bar at Voile Rouge
was made of concrete.

Four pillars and a very sturdy roof.

And that's where we landed.

But little did we know
what effect those rotors had.

We landed on the roof,
aiming to make an amazing entrance, but…

Everything blew away.

People were eating lunch.

The whole thing blew away.

Everything went flying.
People got food in their faces, bolognese…

…fish dishes, seafood buffets, everything,

ended up in the faces of the fancy folk.

It was a battlefield, a war zone.
I thought, "What the hell do we do?"

I came out in high spirits,
but people wanted to lynch us.

To make up for the damage,
I thought, "I'll order champagne."

I ordered everything they had.

"What do you mean, everything?"

"Everything!"

It was as if the money
was burning a hole in his pockets.

It was crazy.

It must have been one of the best summers
for everyone at that beach,

at Voile Rouge in July 1997.

That bill came out to
408 bottles of Cristal.

Meanwhile in Sweden,

deputy CEO Richard Djursén
was trying to hold the fort

at the quieter Stockholm office.

I worked during the summer.
I was given a lot of strange tasks.

It could be anything and everything,
and a lot of it was pretty menial.

I was to change locks on doors,
buy a new fax machine…

There were flight tickets in names
that had nothing to do with Trustor.

I ran a lot of personal errands for them.

Then I learned about Peter Mattsson,
that he'd been involved in a company

where they swindled wealthy Englishmen

where he'd taken money for himself.

His assignment was to dig up dirt

on one of the parties in a legal dispute.

The noose was tightened
from several directions.

One investigative journalist,

and in another part of the world,
a private investigator.

And then the police
happened to stumble in.

The same day the private eye

stumbled across
Trustor's change of ownership,

he had a meeting with the police
on a completely different matter.

It was Friday, October 17, 1997.

That day, a lengthy phone call
became the prelude

to one of Sweden's
largest police investigations.

I pointed to my colleague.

Nigel went there, they started talking,
and I continued with my call.

I could see them getting worked up.

He told me
it was the investment company Trustor.

It was a coincidence
that we got this information.

That's what started us
gathering intelligence

and working towards
a preliminary investigation.

Nigel also said there was a journalist
who'd been in contact with them.

So I decided

to have him come in
to find out what he knew.

So we made a deal,
where we decided to exchange information.

I knew an article was being published,
a very negative one,

at the end of October.

But I didn't know
the police had launched an investigation.

At that moment, I had a trip booked

with my daughter and my girlfriend.

It was the first time
my daughter and I would travel together.

Since I'd been in prison,

I'd missed four of her five years.

Those important years of diaper changes
and crying in Daddy's arms.

This was our chance to get a fresh start.

So I decided to go anyway,

and we went to Barbados for a week.

I wouldn't be married

another ten years in prison?

Absolutely.

Considering the price

And the most absurd consequence
of this affair,

Trustor's shareholders profited big time.

To make sense of that,

we need to look at Björn Björnsson's
third and final role,

the one as liquidator
tasked with dissolving Trustor.

Our mission was to recover
as much money as possible.

Pay off debts and sell all assets.

Whatever was left
went to the shareholders as dividends.

The liquidators found money
in Team Moyne's accounts around the world.

Thomas Jisander
had to repay 65 million in a settlement.

The banks involved
were sued for substantial amounts.

And Trustor's undervalued assets
were sold.

So despite the money that disappeared,

the value of the shares doubled
after the affair was exposed.

That the shareholders benefitted.

That's the irony of fate.

Crimes had been committed,

yet the system lost.

The taxpayers paid the bill
for the authorities' work,

and everyone involved walked free.

Well, almost everyone.

But as some say,

why follow the law
when you can see it as a guideline?

Now I'm really good.

Just great.

I have a good life.

I've worked hard.

I've started companies
that have done really well.

I've sold companies and made a fortune.

Today, I'm financially independent
and can do basically whatever I want.

As I've said,

"Go big or go home."

Every krona that came out of Trustor,
one way or another,

is long gone.

It was impossible to predict

that I would earn as little as I did
from that deal.

After Trustor,

I knew I had marked my presence
on this earth.

That gave me satisfaction.

But what drove me then is no longer there.

The freedom I sought through money

was replaced by a freedom

where no one controls me,

where I choose where to appear,

and where I choose when I vanish.
