for us to get here,

that I have seen
in my entire life.

and it's got better and better

It's the best thing in the world

there's a show.

I would say that the impact

has been quite incredible.

from small bars
to massive worldwide tours.

you can do as a drag queen.

I wouldn't be in the position
I am today.

- I've been able to travel,
I've been able to go everywhere,

New York, Manchester, Lincoln.

- I never thought
I'd be travelling the world.

of the biggest things for me

is that my art
is now taken seriously.

It's not just something

that I've put up on Instagram
for the crack.

- I feel like
since coming off the show

I've really tried to elevate
everything that I was good at,

and elevate everything
that I didn't do as well.

I still can't perform,
but who cares?

- Doing a career in drag now
would be great.

I see it more like dressing up.

Just, like, see how many weird
things I can come up with.

- Professionally, the impact has
been booked and blessed, babes.

- Everybody's got so busy.

And, like,
my diary's packed out.

- I feel so privileged,
because there's so many girls

that wish to be in my heels
right now.

And let me tell you,
they're not comfortable heels,

but it's been
the best experience,

and the best life experience
for me.

- The show has been amazing.

It's helped me so much
with my confidence as a queen.

Ideally,
you don't go on "Drag Race"

to figure out
how to be a better drag queen.

But in my case,
it really helped me.

- I am absolutely
still the same person.

People who knew me before
or know me now,

absolutely the same person.

I'm getting pictures

in random aisles at Aldi's.

- In drag, you want people
to recognise you,

and to go, ooh, look,

But when people actually see me
walking down the streets

like with me Tesco bags,

walking down, going, "Oh,
my God, let's to get home,"

I mean, it's, like, crazy

to think that people actually
wanna come up and talk to me.

- Well, the older generation
love me more than anything.

I get, like, Gladys,

80-year-old Gladys
come up to me in the street

and be like,
"Oh, I love you, Baga,

'much betta,'" and all that.

And I'm just like,
oh, bless you, luv.

- Oh, it's just been nuts.

Like, to meet fans
that really liked what I did,

even though
it was only one episode,

has been the best thing ever.

- Just overnight fame, really,
you know what I mean?

I'm basically like
the new People's Princess.

- I thought
I would just be gay famous,

but it turns out
I'm also kind of real famous.

That's fucking weird.

- I can't go to the shop.

I can't get a loaf of bread
without people coming up to me.

- I went through Birmingham
for a gig once.

I dropped off
at the train station,

literally put on Instagram,

I was like, "I'm in Birmingham
for 15 minutes."

I had so many people
just arrive,

being like,
"Where's Sum Ting Wong?"

- I mean, I'm in the
supermarkets getting spotted.

I'm in the steam rooms
at the gym getting spotted.

It's just ridiculous.

- It has filled my heart
with absolute joy,

and I did not expect

to get the kind of love
and stuff that I did.

celebrity fans since the show.

- My biggest celebrity fan

has been the one and only
Kim Woodburn.

She's seen the impression,

she's absolutely
made up with them,

and that is just completely
full circle for me.

my favourite moment

was doing that makeup challenge
with my sister.

She did an incredible job,
and I'm so happy

that I got to share
the experience with her.

- If I had to change anything,

I'd maybe be
a bit more confident,

always liked me in pink.

He said, "Mary, it's one in
the pink and two in the stink."

- I think I just
spent the whole time

worried about
how I was gonna be perceived,

how I was gonna compare
to the other queens.

- I think my biggest regret was
not preparing before the show.

- I didn't really trust anyone
when I was there,

and that made it really hard
to let my guard down

and to give the TV show
what it needed.

- The stories of these queens

became lessons for a lot of the
young kids out there watching.

- I've had so many messages
speaking about Section 28,

because it really affected us.

Those kids in the playground,

pushing and shoving
and calling you a fag,

and throwing their drinks
on you.

And a lot of teachers felt
like they couldn't step in.

And to have somebody
articulate that

for people of my generation
has been really important.

- All of my insecurities
came from high school.

- That's kind of why
I love drag,

because you get a chance
to, like,

pretend that stuff
didn't happen,

and, like, what you might
have been like otherwise.

- A lot of these queens
have gone through so much pain.

A lot of them,

their parents have thrown them
out of the house,

or they've gone
to conversion therapy.

And you understand
that their coping skills

are so valuable
to so many people out there.

And it's not just gay people.

It's anyone
who's ever had a dream

can take a lesson
from our girls here.

- A really proud moment for me,

and it was telling not only
the other girls in the workroom,

but the whole world
about my addiction.

My family
didn't know about that.

So getting to that episode
and knowing it was coming

was probably the hardest part
of the competition.

Well, it took--

three of my friends died,
and it didn't stop me.

But my family
were nothing but supportive,

and I think my dad just said,
"Shit happens."

But you're still
getting a kick up the arse.

And it was just a habit

that caught on a bit too quick
and a bit too hard.

My Instagram has just blown up

with people telling me
about their stories.

And just knowing that
at least I've helped someone

through sharing my story.

- Obviously your parents
know you do drag, don't they?

- No.
- What?

- My parents now know that
obviously I do drag, I'm gay.

I put my feather back.

My mum was absolutely, like,
completely cool with it,

because she always thought
I was gay.

But my dad was obviously
difficult with it.

It was a bit like hard.

- I think it's a cultural thing.

Do you get what I mean?
- Right.

They're quite traditional, then.
- Yeah.

He turns to us and goes,

"I've always wanted
a daughter-in-law,

but now I guess
I have four sons.

So you know what?
Cheers, Dad.

- One thing that I wanted to do
on this show

was talk about equal marriage
in Northern Ireland,

and I'm so glad
that I got the opportunity

to bring that
to the conversation.

In Northern Ireland,
we actually don't--

we can't get married.

It's illegal still for gays
to get married.

- What?
- What?

- Legal marriage in Northern
Ireland is now a possibility.

- I wouldn't rush, girl,
honestly.

As soon as you get
that piece of paper,

all the bedroom action stops.

- If there's gonna be wedding
bells, I don't know, maybe 2020.

You never know. Hmm.

- Your drag is sort of,
kind of, um...

It's kind of, um...

- Hodge-podge here and there.

So I came out thinking
what can I do?

And I've kind of gone back
to where Vinegar first started

when she was this
kind of working-class woman,

fur coat, no knickers, fag
on the go, rollers in the hair.

But she's a complete diva.

- The silver dress
and the red wig now,

you will never, ever
see me in that again.

- Just like is this my life,
you know what I mean?

Like the other day, for example,

I was getting me lips done
in Harley Street for free,

and then the next thing I know,

I'm in Chanel
buying a bottle of Chanel.

I used to just throw a bit of
soap on, you know what I mean?

- It was a little hobby for me

that I wanted
to make into a business,

and now I can, you know.

I'm doing gigs
all around the UK,

and so see you in your hometown.

- So there's lots of stuff
happening in my life now.

I've got a little show coming
out, maybe some more music.

I might write a few things.
Who knows?

- Definitely being myself.

I said everything
that I said in that season.

But I'm a fucking drag queen,
for God's sake,

and I'm a scouser.

So, I mean, come on.

I had so much fun.

And I exceeded
all my expectations of myself,
