investigation of possible mistreatment

of boys by All Saints Brothers at St.
Vincent.

Peter John Lavin, the former
superintendent, pleaded not guilty on

all seven counts of sexual and physical
assault.

One of the deepening mysteries of the
case is why no charges were laid at the

time of the original investigation.

A preliminary inquiry is the next step
in the legal proceedings. When the Crown

will introduce evidence, it hopes to
convince the presiding judge to send the

case forward.
