look like one.

was in a stairwell in the castle.

A stairwell that led from one room to
the dungeon area

in the castle in Glendale.

Hard to see, but believe it or not,
there were timbers falling and dirt and

clumps of rocks.

It's hard to make this look like the
inside of that cave.

Now, right about now, to the exterior of
the place at the back end of the castle.

if it wasn't an R, they didn't even want

to play it.

This was quite a chore, gathering that
many females in one room in an empty

jail.

time, probably three weeks later. You

will always knock before entering my

And there's so many funny lines in this,
we still to this day, we still to this

day remember.

anybody else that could fight for our
principals. They had to stage their own

fight.

Some of the hardships of making a
low-budget movie.

Put in an empty room and build showers
and run water to them.

And hope you got enough drain in the
floor.

She was a very, very, very well-known
drummer of a female band.

Probably one of the finest female
drummers in the country.

The whole movie originally was intended
to start with this jail season.

But the girls at the castle and myself
sat down and said, gee, if it's just

going to be a jail, we've got to give a
reason for the girls to go to jail.

So that's when we created the beginning
as they're robbing jewelry stores with

water guns.

This one, of course, was in the boiler
room of an old carpet factory, if I

remember right.

Made a pretty good jail, though, all
these places.

The other

girls are wondering what the heck

happened to Sammy.

And there's Sammy.

And that's another one we've used for a
long time.

We're going to straighten you out,
Summers.

the whiteness of your alleged virginity.

Let her become clean with the blood of

That was such a mess we had to clean up
when this scene was over,

garbage all over.

You know, for a low budget, we really

elaborate here. Dolly is all over the

We brought in a couple of truckloads of
equipment to shoot this.

Mixing daylight with 3200 Kelvin light
is tough.

That's the daylight you see coming in
the door, and the rest is quartz, 3200.

Found it.

I dare you to get up. Whap!

Sammy's a very sensitive little lady
anyway.

Okay, this was something else in a
totally different building about 30

miles away over near where the
limousine.

The girls left the guy tied up in a
limousine.

This was kind of a storage box.

And to get cameras in there and lights
and all wasn't easy.

I think it was a storage bin in like an
old grocery merchandise warehouse.

I'll step on it.

More. All right.

Chapin. Okay. Kent.

Uh-oh. Uh-oh. There goes the storage
door open.

Brie Terry.

No bucket this time.

There's the bucket brigade.

This is the day I was telling somebody
about the other day when my sound man

took the tapes home.

Listen to them from the noggin.

And when he played them back, he erased
all the audio.

So we had to recreate it.

Strangely enough, this was a real jail
in another city that let us come in and

shoot.

It was not.

Really well staffed at the time. I think
they maybe had one or two inmates there

and some personnel from the prison
system, but it was a real

jail. Aha,

Summers.

That mop is awkward, isn't it, my dear?

Perhaps you'll find the scrub brush just
a little easier to handle.

Okay, Summers, start scrubbing.

You better get started, Summers, if you
want to finish in time for lunch.

And by the way, Benson sends you her

We had quite a nice long visit last
night, Miss Benson and I.

I intend to visit her every night.

And whomp the heck out of her.

bucket. This is the funniest thing.

That's one of our homemade jail doors
back there.

There's another place where they were
known.

Those were pretty good at this.

Taking their own fights and all, they
did all right.

If they'd have ran into those jail bars,
they would have just fallen down.

That was some more of our wooden dowels
and some wooden crossbars.

It's a little bit like a jail, doesn't
it?

Oh, and this was a carpet factory down
in Santa Ana.

That jail was all over the place, wasn't
it?

Melody Bell was quite a climber.

As in Doll Squad and Blood Orgy and some
of my other films, the ladies that

worked on this, Ten Violet Women, still
are in communication.

Every so often I hear from one or other
of them.

You know, when you have a soundtrack
that...

It covers dialogue that's right in front
of camera, and then dialogue that's

behind the camera behind the door.

You have to transfer the soundtracks to
a separate dubbing unit so that the

sound can be altered and controlled.

You can't let it just plain run and turn
it up and down. You have to put it on

separate dubbing units.

You have anywhere from 10 to as many as
50 dubbing units.

Now we're back at the real jail where we
had to bring in all the lights and

generators and all that.

Obviously, that's the real jail cell.

Putting on those bars.

Shit, that's just horrific.

Really screws us up.

decide to move you back to your cell.

We three are going to have such fun for
the next two weeks.

We had shot a sequence here that
dissolved out into a romantic setting in

the park.

All sorts of things.

Had such a long picture, we had to cut
him out.

Swinging in the park and sitting by a
fireplace, having wine with a boyfriend.

You shoot so many things, but you don't
always have room for them in the movie.

Have you accepted Jesus as your personal
savior yet?

They're going to help us, just like you

Did you tell them we need clothes and
everything?

Yeah, but some guy with a beard stopped
them in the parking lot the last time

they were here.

Started asking them a lot of questions.

Like who they were here to see,
anything, any of the new girls. They

were cool. They played dumb.

Are you sure we can get along with these

Yeah, they're going to meet us just like
we planned, a half a mile south of here

in a clearing.

have a group like that, somebody gets
behind a bar, you get the dialogue

right, you can't afford to keep doing it
until you get everybody in the right

position sometimes.

I'm very proud of the girls. They
consistently stayed in character all the

days and even for the weeks we spend in
jails and fake jails and real

jails.

The funny part about it is in less than
30 seconds you're seeing three locations

miles apart.

This was a corridor in a private home.

That's in my, I believe, in the attorney
friend's house in Beverly Hills.

I will say that that abandoned Los
Angeles prison did give us a lot of

places to shoot.

A lot of options.

It was especially helpful when we had
light coming in from side windows, from

daylight.

Having to light everything in a dark and
huge, huge, many, many thousands of

square feet building is not easy.

All that and all the girls, of course,
when they were in other wardrobes at the

beginning of the music.

They're made for one great big nice
jail, though.

This is fun, picking up a railroad track
so we can put in that sound effect.

Here we are again on a generator out in
the middle of nowhere.

middle of nowhere.

the time.

And here we're back at a city park.

And we're about 30 miles south of Los
Angeles.

That was another one we used for a long

This is a funny one, I've got to tell
you.

In this scene, Sherry, working in the
picture, has got a bad case of

poison ivy, or poison oak, one of the
two.

Their skin was flaming red.

So this shot we did.

And that's as far as we got because her
face is all broken out with poison oak,

poison ivy.

And it's a cut. And from here, I will
tell you, here's Santa Monica on

the dock. This shot is on top of the
castle 10 months later.

Ten months later, the top roof of the

Now here we are back at Santa Monica
Pier, back at the castle roof. Can we

This always is part of the magic of
making movies.

party room at my castle in Glendale.

Then we brought in the little band, that
little alcove there.

that's where the witch buried the

picture in a huge water goblet with the
snakes and ants and all that.

The castle served many purposes.

The boat wheel, had to go buy

all that.

Interesting enough, the girl in the
middle there is alive, but barely.

How she escaped, I don't know. She got
off of a plane somewhere overseas,

Middle East, and somebody shot her in
the head with a rifle bullet.

But she survived, and there she is
dancing away a year later.

There's Sherry and Doreen really
learning what we call the belly dance.

And pretty quick, in comes the sheik.

The officer is here to arrest you girls.

However, since I have recovered all of
my jewels, and all of the other jewels

have been returned to their rightful
owners, and I now have recovered my

precious scarab ring,

I've decided to drop all

charges against you girls.

In that case, you won't need me. Give it
back, Sammy. Thank you.

had a marvelous career promoting

that Rocky Horror Picture Show.

He's the one who put it across the

Went down there for a nice couple of
days, stayed, took the AeroFlex, zoom

lens and battery pack, shot the material
for under the main

ending credits.
