Coming up... the epic evolution of Chris Pratt

I definitely felt like I was a part of something really special

a lot of amazing bonds that were forged between us as actors and as human beings

but on top of that we made a damn good movie

we'll hang out with Marvel Chief Kevin Feige

It gets bigger and bigger,you know

We’ve been doing premieres here on Hollywood Boulevard for years

and this is the biggest it has ever been

And You can hear the roar and there are helicopters overhead

And I love that, because I believe that’s just the fanbase growing bigger and bigger and bigger

and we'll check out the career of action chick Zoe Saldana

No, I’m just a woman

I like playing characters that are complex, that are multi-layered, you know?

And so, some of them come with a tough dexterity

and others are,you know

others are in the search of finding true answers for themselves

I just, I like playing relevant characters, for sure

But first... a look at our favourite Comic-Con moments over the years!

Every year, in San Diego, all the studios try their best to impress the thousands of fans there, which leads to some pretty cool shows

So, let’s check out our favorite Comic-Con moments

We kick things off with the 2016 presentation of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2’

were on stage holding a press conference, when the movie’s Ravagers invaded

Our second favorite moment was in 2015 when they held a concert for ’Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

Remember, this is before the movie was released

and the hype about the new saga set in that galaxy far, far away was very real

So all the fans at Comic-Con were treated to a truly magical moment

I got to say, this one of the more amazing things I have ever seen

and we are...

we are on the bridge of something even more amazing

when these incredible musician begin to play

And finally, our favorite Comic-Con moment came in 2013

during the press conference of ‘Thor: The Dark World’

Kevin Feige, who we’ll see a lot more of later in this episode

was talking to the fans, when actor Tom Hiddleston showed up as his character Loki and stole the show

Chris Pratt was the voice of Emmet in the ‘Lego Movie’ franchise, which also premiered at Comic Con

But he's of course best known for playing the Guardian of the Galaxy Peter Quill in the MCU

Let's check out what Mr. Starlord has been up to

At 19 years old, Chris Pratt didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life

He was living in Hawaii, sleeping in a van and waiting tables part-time, when he happened to serve a director

She cast him in a cheesy horror film, and suddenly Pratt had a career ahead of him

Hollywood is in the business of discovery

and from time to time does this amazing thing where it plucks someone from obscurity and raises them to incredible heights

and I just can’t believe that I’m that person

After building up an impressive resume of supporting roles in both TV and film

it was in 2014 that the actor finally broke through to the big leagues, with roles in two of the year’s biggest hit

First, providing the voice of the everyman Emmett Brickowski in ‘The LEGO Movie

to me, the metaphors and themes in the movie are

you know, use your imagination, think outside of the box,don't be a...

It's to be a nonconformist, it's sort of progressive messages which is

pretty it's coincidence I don't know ironic maybe coming from Michael giant corporal brand movie, bur it is, it's like...

fight the system,fight against it

and transforming his physique, as he shifted his career into action mode

taking on the role of the outer space hero known as Star Lord in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy

I got the role like 6 months ago

and they were like: Great job, but you’re too fat.

And I was like: Alright, I can work on that!

So luckily they trusted me, and then got me a personal trainer

The following year brought us the long awaited adventure ‘Jurassic World’

Pratt was quickly becoming an ace at acting in front of a green screen

well Especially in this day and age, it’s a tool set that you have to develop… …In this movie

you know, running away from something that’s painted in is fine, that’s pretty easy

You just run, and they put a dinosaur there and the audience is gonna assume you’re scared

2016 found Chris grabbing his hat and gun for a star-studded remake of the classic Western ‘The Magnificent Seven

This movie has a lot of elements in it, from action, emotion, drama and comedy

it’s kinda got all those things

And I definitely felt like I was a part of something really special

It was a lot of amazing bonds that were forged between us as actors and as human beings

but on top of that we made a damn good movie

And he got to romance the incredible Jennifer Lawrence

in the sci-fi odyssey ‘Passengers

I think it’s a really great story.I think that’s what everybody loves so much about this movie.

It’s a really incredible, original human story

and it’s got a fine balance of romance and adventure and action and drama

Then in 2017 he headed back to space for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

and we just caught a great moment. And it’s a really cool, deep story

and it’s a big budget production

It’s one of the few things in the world that people seem to be able to agree on these days is that they like this movie

and they want to get together, so, you know, jump on board

And he continued to knock it out of the park for 2018

reprising his role as Star Lord in ‘Avengers: Infinity War

then rejoining co-star Bryce Dallas Howard in the land of the dinosaurs

for ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

I’m just so happy to be here

and happy to bring the fans something hopefully they really like,

and honor a legacy, a movie, a franchise that I’ve been a fan of for longer than I ever knew I’d be an actor

The talented yet down-to-earth Chris Pratt seems to be one of the happiest guys in Hollywood

and we look forward to watching his career continue to grow.

Oh, it feels great to be here. I just feel overcome with joy.

when the superhero universe was already 6 years old

Marvel's unprecedented box office success started with the release of 'Iron Man' over a decade ago

I thought it would be a good hard time, and I am always down for that

there's a bit of warrior energy in me that I've been cultivating

and to kind of, be one to find a, an avelue to express that through was really gratifying

Let's find out how that film launched the mega franchise!

For today’s trivia facts we’ll be checking out 2008’s ‘Iron Man

the film that started the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Getting it made proved quite a challenge, though, as it had been in development hell for no less than 17 years

First Universal Pictures was set to produce it, but they sold the rights to Fox

Later on New Line Cinema bought them, until Marvel Studios finally had enough and decided to do it themselves

With a $140 million dollar budget they took quite a risk, but it became a massive hit and was a huge boost for the company

These days, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest grossing franchise of all time

and they have ‘Iron Man’ to thank for it

It was directed by Jon Favreau

I think these blockbuster movies are incredibly important because they become cultural phenomenons

They become a ground for discussion for people around the world

And also it becomes a way that Hollywood stays afloat now, commercially

So you're going to see these big movies because this might sound silly but they're the one big export

we have left in the United States

People aren't buying our cars anymore

They're not buying our products.They're not buying our technology

you know

They're buying our culture

They're buying our music and they're buying our movies

Iron Man himself is played by Robert Downey Jr.

Nowadays he’s an absolute superstar and he has this comeback role to thank for it.

Before Robert was cast, he was battling a serious drug problem

and was crawling back into Hollywood’s good graces from having hit rock bottom

But it was precisely because of that rise and fall that director Favreau wanted Downey Jr. for this part

as he saw many similarities between the actor and his role as Tony Stark

Robert grabbed the opportunity with both hands

and trained five days a week in martial arts

I thought it would be a good hard time. And I am always down for that

There is a bit of warrior energy in my that I've been cultivating

and to be able to kind of find an avenue to express that though was really gratifying.

Funnily enough, when shooting began the script wasn’t even finished yet

As the filmmakers were more focused on the action and the plot

they kind of didn’t get around to actually writing the dialogue

Most of the scenes were ad-libbed

but luckily Robert Downey Jr. was extremely good at it

In fact, he instantly earned the trust Favreau had put in him and almost single handedly turned the film into a huge hit

In the end, ‘Iron Man’ was the best thing that could have happened for both Marvel Studios and Robert’s career

I’ve kind of always had an affection for Superman

Superman’s always been that character which I’ve associated with the most

as much as one can associate with a superpowered alien

but, Superman’s kind of the guy. I feel very lucky to be playing the one which I liked.

but first, we get to know none other than Marvel President Kevin Feige!

When you think of Marvel, all kinds of superheroes and blockbusters probably come to mind

But have you ever wondered who’s the big man behind all those titles?

Well, he goes by the name of Kevin Feige

the president of Marvel Studios

He was hired as a producer in 2000 and quickly made a name for himself

It took him only seven years of climbing the ladder to reach the way too cool job he has now

In 2008, ‘Iron Man’ was released, which was the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

. in less than a decade it became the highest grossing franchise of all time

So yes, it’s safe to say they’re quite happy with Kevin

We’re not entirely sure what his key to success is

but being a major Marvel fan himself does seem to help

It gets bigger and bigger.you know

We’ve been doing premieres here on Hollywood Boulevard for years

and this is the biggest it has ever been

And that is added pressure for us, but we love that pressure

Because We want the movies to deliver, we want the movies to over deliver

And as I always say if I wasn’t here walking the carpet to go to a movie I produced

I would be over there as a fan to see everybody come in here

Which by the way is true, I’ve done that before for other movies when I was in college

Feige’s movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is one of the sequels that raked in some big bucks

but when the first one was released he was taking a pretty big chance

A talking raccoon and his walking tree bestie

songs from the sixties and seventies

aliens instead of superheroes

All those things could have been pretty off putting

Fortunately it all worked out great

but Marvel sometimes has to take risks like this

It is true. I mean it’s always nerve wracking working on something for years and years and then unleashing it on the world

But three years ago when we were here with the first ‘Guardians

we really didn’t know Would people respond, would people be into it?

Now we know

We know they love the characters, we know the tone

And we hope very much they love this next version of the movie

because we worked very very hard and what James Gunn has done is very very special

It’s been a long time, it’s been three solid years of working on this

The cast has grown, the characters have grown and I can’t wait for the world to see it

In less than a decade, Marvel, guided by the hand of Kevin Feige, started its cinematic universe, and went on to rake in over $10 billion dollars.

Talk about success stories

we hope there are plenty more titles from them on the horizon

so we can expect that number to increase by a lot in the near future

And I’m having a great time

Like I said, I love being in space, I love being challenged by great roles

especially a company like Marvel creates amazing movies that give not only the audience an adventure

but also give us as artists, give us an opportunity to sort of be challenged

and be able to embody amazing multi-layered characters

We already saw a lot of Pratt

so let's get to know this buttkicking action heroine a bit better

The lovely and talented Zoe Saldana

grew up dreaming of being a dancer, then segued into acting in high school

But she says her early days of studying ballet still help her with her many physical roles

I wish we can say that we live in a time when it’s expected of women to be physical, or to be strong in a physical sense.

I didn’t have enough of that growing up

So the action icons that I had were Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton

and maybe some kung-fu fighter from one of those martial arts movies

I did have an affinity for that, because I liked it

I like action movies. I wanted to see more of myself, more women

That’s something that I do take a great pride in doing

every time I’m able to incorporate my physical abilities in a role

I know that there’s a little girl out there saying

Oh my god, thank god I have women that I can follow or admire

After building up her resume slowly at first

in 2009, Zoe took her career to the next level with two blockbuster hits

First, she joined the rebooted ‘Star Trek’ franchise

which fans loved for bringing a touch of realism back to the sci-fi series

When you’re gonna tell a story about people

you have to show people as what they are, you know?

Fragile, put together, broken, fearful

and they can still be heroes and save the day

And I love that.

And she appeared in the highest grossing film of all time, James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’

as the alien hunter Neytiri

It wasn’t easy moving on from such a huge success

Not easy. And that’s a good thing

I don’t like anything that’s easy

I like working for whatever it is that I want, because it just makes you appreciate it more

That said, it has given me the ability to meet amazing filmmakers

not only from the States but also from different parts of the world

that either I’ve grown up loving

or people that I would love to collaborate with because they’re super talented

So in that sense, it has been wonderful

Then in 2014, she expanded her range of colorful characters in Marvel’s quirky hit ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

The beautiful yet deadly Zoe Saldana shows no signs of slowing down any time soon

If men get to play roles where they’re challenged and they can provide so many layers to what they do

I can only hope that the same would be for women

So I would be really sad if all the roles that I would do would entail me getting dressed like this every day

I've always read comics, I've always liked them

I like the visual aspect of them. I like the way that people look in them

I've always liked the way that you know they talk.

And they've evolved a lot over the years, so I still collect comics and go out and buy them and they're all very different now.

And he's not the only one. Batman, Spider-Man, the X-Men

these iconic heroes have inspired generations of kids, and some of those kids have grown up to be movie stars.

Even some of the world's biggest stars have their favorite comic characters

I’ve kind of always had an affection for Superman

but,Superman’s kind of the guy. I feel very lucky to be playing the one which I liked

Superman… I mean Initially, it’s just because he was really cute,

I was young, I was young I didn’t understand everything

but as I grew up I just loved

I just loved the idea of this sort of, half, seemingly so human superhero who also had these amazing powers

but his ultimate thing is that he was kind,he was fair he was just like perfect in my mind as a kid, yeah

he was just like perfect in my mind as a kid, yeah

''look Acting is something is something I've been wanting to do my whole life and that started when I was young and I just played superheroes all the time

and would dress up as you know, Spider-Man or...

I used to dress up as Superman and I would wear my underwear on the outside of my pajamas,

cause that's what Superman does

My son, I'll never forget his face when he walked on set and I was wearing the 'Iron Man' suit

He was like... his little face was like *wow* mummy, you know

As an actor, I'm used to playing different parts, you know, and Bruce Wayne, you know, is a role in effect in this movie, you know.

He puts on this act as Bruce Wayne the billionaire playboy

and Batman, you know, in a way is a character and a role as well

so he's a guy who's you know living a double

you know, living double identities, and obviously I can identify a little bit with that although I don't fight crime

Batman is the most troubled of heroic figures and the most troubling of heroic figures

The surprise is not that they would put me on the list, as it were

but the surprise for them was that hey, I did know the comic 'Thor' and actually I know comics reasonably well

and also, I go to see these movies.So I was literally in their world

So I was literally in their world

She's all about love, equality, passion, truth and justice

She's such a whole lot of a woman

and she inspires me, and I just love her

But just what is it about these stories that keeps us all coming back for more?

The main essential thing that runs through the entire 'X-Men' chronicles, I suppose, in every medium, I suppose is that of the outsider

And I think that's something that appeals to us as a race, 'cause we've all felt

we've all felt like the outsider at some point in our life

I think That's why 'X-Men' in particular appeals to people so much

I think people like to escape the reality

I think the reality might be, you know, too harsh for people

They like escapism, they like fantasy, they like to be able to see themselves in characters that they may not be able to ever be

but they like to imagine it, and imagination’s a powerful thing

You know, it's interesting. These characters have been around for a long, long time.

They've endured through all kinds of different political and cultural environments in the world

so I mean, one of the most interesting things is how they've just proven so adaptable

you know what I mean? It can be resonant in the 1950s

and in the 1960s It was a big part of the culture then

in the same way that it's a part of the culture now and it’s radically different

So there's something at the core of this character that people find compelling

and I wish I knew exactly what it was, but it's been successful for longer than I've been alive
