These are the user uploaded subtitles that are being translated: 1 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:12,000 Thanks for watching! 2 00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:43,000 Well, we are in hour three of Learning the Bible in 24 Hours in which we'll undertake 3 00:00:43,000 --> 00:00:47,000 to review chapters four through eleven of Genesis. 4 00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:51,000 The first eleven chapters of Genesis are viewed by most people as prehistory. 5 00:00:51,000 --> 00:00:56,000 This is the first unit of a two-unit review of Genesis. 6 00:00:56,000 --> 00:01:01,000 In chapter twelve on Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph are the patriarchs. 7 00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:06,000 But we are in hour three in which we're going to talk about chapters four through eleven. 8 00:01:06,000 --> 00:01:11,000 And so as we look at the panorama of history, we've been through the creation and the fall 9 00:01:11,000 --> 00:01:17,000 of man and now we're undertaking the story of Cain and Abel. 10 00:01:17,000 --> 00:01:21,000 We'll talk a little bit about Noah, the flood of Noah of course, but what we'll surprise 11 00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:25,000 many is we'll talk a little bit about the days of Noah. 12 00:01:25,000 --> 00:01:29,000 Most people have little insight as to why the flood really came and what that's all 13 00:01:29,000 --> 00:01:31,000 about. 14 00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:36,000 And then we'll conclude this session with a quick look at the Tower of Babel and what's 15 00:01:36,000 --> 00:01:37,000 called the Table of Nations. 16 00:01:37,000 --> 00:01:43,000 So that's our challenge for this session, hour three. 17 00:01:43,000 --> 00:01:48,000 Genesis chapter four is the famous story of Cain and Abel, the two brothers. 18 00:01:48,000 --> 00:01:51,000 And they both had offerings. 19 00:01:51,000 --> 00:01:54,000 Cain was a farmer, Abel a shepherd. 20 00:01:54,000 --> 00:01:56,000 And they both gave offerings. 21 00:01:56,000 --> 00:02:01,000 The significance of the offerings is often misunderstood. 22 00:02:01,000 --> 00:02:06,000 Cain of course being a farmer gave an offering of the fruit of the ground. 23 00:02:06,000 --> 00:02:08,000 Abel gave a lamb. 24 00:02:08,000 --> 00:02:11,000 But not just because he was a shepherd. 25 00:02:11,000 --> 00:02:14,000 One of the insights that most people miss, and you wouldn't get this unless you've read 26 00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:20,000 the rest of your Bible and come back to this, is the lamb was the designated offering to 27 00:02:20,000 --> 00:02:21,000 be given. 28 00:02:21,000 --> 00:02:26,000 And Cain may have meant well, but he wasn't following the directions. 29 00:02:26,000 --> 00:02:30,000 So Abel's offering was accepted and Cain was not. 30 00:02:30,000 --> 00:02:35,000 Now the first question that should occur to us is how would they know when you put an 31 00:02:35,000 --> 00:02:37,000 offering in the offering plate in church? 32 00:02:37,000 --> 00:02:41,000 You can be pretty sure it'll be accepted, but in any case you would have no knowledge 33 00:02:41,000 --> 00:02:42,000 if they didn't. 34 00:02:42,000 --> 00:02:47,000 But in these days apparently there is some scriptural indication that the offering was 35 00:02:47,000 --> 00:02:49,000 consumed by fire from heaven. 36 00:02:49,000 --> 00:02:52,000 That may sound strange to us because that's not our normal practice. 37 00:02:52,000 --> 00:02:57,000 But it was clear that both Cain and Abel recognized the acceptance or non-acceptably 38 00:02:57,000 --> 00:02:58,000 their offering. 39 00:02:58,000 --> 00:03:03,000 And that was what gave rise to Cain's envy or hatred of Abel. 40 00:03:03,000 --> 00:03:07,000 Cain's offering was the fruit of his own labors, Abel's the lamb. 41 00:03:07,000 --> 00:03:09,000 And Cain's offering was rejected. 42 00:03:09,000 --> 00:03:15,000 And that's what caused him to, or should say, motivated him at least to murder his brother, 43 00:03:15,000 --> 00:03:16,000 Abel, rather extreme. 44 00:03:16,000 --> 00:03:18,000 So we have the second murder. 45 00:03:18,000 --> 00:03:21,000 Many people call it the first murder and in a sense it is. 46 00:03:21,000 --> 00:03:28,000 But the really the first murder was when Satan deceived Adam and Eve and in fact they lost 47 00:03:28,000 --> 00:03:29,000 their immortality. 48 00:03:29,000 --> 00:03:30,000 They were mortal. 49 00:03:30,000 --> 00:03:34,000 They were consigned to death, ultimately. 50 00:03:34,000 --> 00:03:37,000 So let's take a look at this though. 51 00:03:37,000 --> 00:03:41,000 Both Cain and Abel came from the same parents, okay? 52 00:03:41,000 --> 00:03:43,000 Fallen parents. 53 00:03:43,000 --> 00:03:46,000 Both of them were outside of Eden. 54 00:03:46,000 --> 00:03:47,000 This did not occur in Eden. 55 00:03:47,000 --> 00:03:49,000 So they were judicially alienated. 56 00:03:49,000 --> 00:03:53,000 And I'm going to suggest that we're all in that same boat. 57 00:03:53,000 --> 00:04:00,000 And they had a differing basis though because Cain's offering was of his own works, the 58 00:04:00,000 --> 00:04:02,000 fruit of a cursed ground. 59 00:04:02,000 --> 00:04:09,000 But in contrast to Abel's offering which anticipates, representatively, the offering 60 00:04:09,000 --> 00:04:11,000 of Jesus Christ. 61 00:04:11,000 --> 00:04:16,000 And it's only the offerings that are acceptable to God that are going to be acceptable. 62 00:04:16,000 --> 00:04:20,000 And he's been very, he has been very specific on his specifications. 63 00:04:20,000 --> 00:04:22,000 It's interesting to realize that death was required. 64 00:04:22,000 --> 00:04:28,000 See it was the substitutionary death of the Lamb that pointed to the fact that there will 65 00:04:28,000 --> 00:04:32,000 be a substitutionary death on our behalf to be given. 66 00:04:32,000 --> 00:04:36,000 And that was just emblematic of that which occurred of course on the cross 2000 years 67 00:04:36,000 --> 00:04:38,000 ago. 68 00:04:38,000 --> 00:04:44,000 And God would provide and we'll see that very dramatically dramatized when we get to 69 00:04:44,000 --> 00:04:47,000 Genesis 22 in very clear terms. 70 00:04:47,000 --> 00:04:50,000 And it's when you've read not just through Genesis for the rest of the Bible and come 71 00:04:50,000 --> 00:04:54,000 back and re-regenesis as you begin to realize how this fits into the picture. 72 00:04:54,000 --> 00:04:57,000 Reading the story on its own may leave you hanging there. 73 00:04:57,000 --> 00:05:01,000 But another question I'd like to deal with as we get into these early chapters, the story 74 00:05:01,000 --> 00:05:04,000 of Cain and Abel I think all of us know. 75 00:05:04,000 --> 00:05:07,000 I know everybody likes to, whenever we go around they always ask where did Cain get 76 00:05:07,000 --> 00:05:08,000 his wife? 77 00:05:08,000 --> 00:05:10,000 Well he married his brother's sister because he was able. 78 00:05:10,000 --> 00:05:14,000 So I'll just leave that with you to read us all of that. 79 00:05:14,000 --> 00:05:19,000 We should realize that Adam Eve had many sons and daughters, the script communicates that 80 00:05:19,000 --> 00:05:24,000 and obviously there's a non-trivial population at the time because remember the combination 81 00:05:24,000 --> 00:05:30,000 of the many boys and girls that were born in the family and recognized that the years 82 00:05:30,000 --> 00:05:34,000 go by, these are extreme longevity, there's quite a population so much so that Cain was 83 00:05:34,000 --> 00:05:39,000 in fear of being attacked, that's why God gives him a special protection. 84 00:05:39,000 --> 00:05:43,000 But there's another issue is we get to Genesis chapter 5. 85 00:05:43,000 --> 00:05:44,000 It's a strange chapter. 86 00:05:44,000 --> 00:05:46,000 The first three, four chapters are exciting. 87 00:05:46,000 --> 00:05:50,000 You got the creation, you got the story of Adam and Eve and then Cain and Abel. 88 00:05:50,000 --> 00:05:55,000 When you get to Genesis 6 on you have the flood of Noah and all that action but Genesis 89 00:05:55,000 --> 00:05:59,000 chapter 5 is one of these strange chapters you tend to sort of skip over. 90 00:05:59,000 --> 00:06:02,000 It's just a genealogy, a family tree. 91 00:06:02,000 --> 00:06:03,000 Why bother? 92 00:06:03,000 --> 00:06:04,000 I mean is it, what, why there? 93 00:06:04,000 --> 00:06:08,000 Well I'm going to suggest to you that one of the exciting discoveries that you need 94 00:06:08,000 --> 00:06:13,000 to make for yourself is to discover the hidden messages that are all through the Bible. 95 00:06:13,000 --> 00:06:19,000 I don't mean just the Bible codes that create some controversy but messages both in terms 96 00:06:19,000 --> 00:06:25,000 of what the lessons are from the narratives but also there's some other hidden messages 97 00:06:25,000 --> 00:06:27,000 and the Scripture says that there are. 98 00:06:27,000 --> 00:06:32,000 In Proverbs 25-2 it says, it is the glory of God to conceal a thing and it's the honor 99 00:06:32,000 --> 00:06:35,000 or duty of kings to search out a matter. 100 00:06:35,000 --> 00:06:39,000 Well let me start this with a riddle. 101 00:06:39,000 --> 00:06:42,000 Who is the oldest man in the Bible? 102 00:06:42,000 --> 00:06:45,000 Anyone? 103 00:06:45,000 --> 00:06:46,000 Bethuzah. 104 00:06:46,000 --> 00:06:49,000 Bethuzah lived 969 years. 105 00:06:49,000 --> 00:06:51,000 Yet he died before his father. 106 00:06:51,000 --> 00:06:54,000 Whoops, how can that be? 107 00:06:54,000 --> 00:06:57,000 He's the oldest man in the Bible yet he died before his father. 108 00:06:57,000 --> 00:07:02,000 That little riddle you can spring on your neighborhood Bible study this week because 109 00:07:02,000 --> 00:07:04,000 everyone forgets who his father was. 110 00:07:04,000 --> 00:07:06,000 His father was Enoch who didn't die. 111 00:07:06,000 --> 00:07:10,000 Enoch's a very interesting guy. 112 00:07:10,000 --> 00:07:15,000 When he was 65 years old something happened in his life that caused him from that day 113 00:07:15,000 --> 00:07:17,000 on to walk with God. 114 00:07:17,000 --> 00:07:21,000 In fact he did for 300 years following. 115 00:07:21,000 --> 00:07:26,000 And among the things that happened there is that he had a son by the name of Bethuzah. 116 00:07:26,000 --> 00:07:30,000 Now you should understand that the flood of Noah did not come as a surprise. 117 00:07:30,000 --> 00:07:33,000 It had been preached on for four generations. 118 00:07:33,000 --> 00:07:42,000 In fact what God told Enoch was that when his son was born the judgment of the flood 119 00:07:42,000 --> 00:07:47,000 that was coming would be withheld for as long as he lived. 120 00:07:47,000 --> 00:07:52,000 As long as he's alive the judgment of the flood would be withheld. 121 00:07:52,000 --> 00:07:54,000 So he named his son Methuzah. 122 00:07:54,000 --> 00:07:56,000 It comes from two Hebrew roots. 123 00:07:56,000 --> 00:08:01,000 The word muth which means his death occurs 125 times in the Old Testament. 124 00:08:01,000 --> 00:08:05,000 And the verb shalak which means to bring or send forth. 125 00:08:05,000 --> 00:08:09,000 The name Methuzah made up of those two roots is his death shall bring. 126 00:08:09,000 --> 00:08:10,000 Strange name. 127 00:08:10,000 --> 00:08:16,000 But it's a prophecy because his father knew that as long as his son's alive this judgment 128 00:08:16,000 --> 00:08:20,000 that was coming would be withheld. 129 00:08:20,000 --> 00:08:25,000 And indeed if you look at the genealogies that are presented in Genesis chapter 5. 130 00:08:25,000 --> 00:08:31,000 Methuzah was 187 when his son Lamik was born and Lamik was 182 when his son Noah was 131 00:08:31,000 --> 00:08:32,000 born. 132 00:08:32,000 --> 00:08:37,000 And it's the 600th year of Noah's life that the flood came. 133 00:08:37,000 --> 00:08:43,000 And if so if you take the 187 and the 782 you get the 969 years that Methuzah was alive. 134 00:08:43,000 --> 00:08:47,000 Methuzah's life becomes a symbol of God's mercy. 135 00:08:47,000 --> 00:08:53,000 And it's interesting that it is thus the longest lifetime in the Bible deliberately because 136 00:08:53,000 --> 00:08:56,000 of God's as an expression of God's mercy. 137 00:08:56,000 --> 00:08:57,000 Not infinite. 138 00:08:57,000 --> 00:08:59,000 It becomes a point at which it's cut off. 139 00:08:59,000 --> 00:09:02,000 But it is what shall I say extravagant. 140 00:09:02,000 --> 00:09:05,000 But there is this genealogy in Genesis chapter 5. 141 00:09:05,000 --> 00:09:13,000 Adam, Seth, Inash, Keenan, Mahalalal, Yared, Inak, Methuzah, Lamik and Noah. 142 00:09:13,000 --> 00:09:18,000 Well if there's all this insight behind the name of Methuzah what about these other 9 143 00:09:18,000 --> 00:09:19,000 people? 144 00:09:19,000 --> 00:09:23,000 See our problem in Genesis chapter 5 it's not translated for you. 145 00:09:23,000 --> 00:09:30,000 The rest of the Bible of course is translated from its Greek or its Hebrew into English. 146 00:09:30,000 --> 00:09:35,000 But we don't translate normally proper names. 147 00:09:35,000 --> 00:09:37,000 And my legal name is Charles. 148 00:09:37,000 --> 00:09:38,000 What does it mean? 149 00:09:38,000 --> 00:09:39,000 Who knows? 150 00:09:39,000 --> 00:09:43,000 There's all kinds of conjectures but it's been lost in antiquity. 151 00:09:43,000 --> 00:09:48,000 But in Hebrew all Hebrew words are made up from a three letter root. 152 00:09:48,000 --> 00:09:52,000 And if you don't have the root means you can infer the meaning of the word. 153 00:09:52,000 --> 00:09:56,000 And the problem here is we don't translate the proper names even if you go to a strong 154 00:09:56,000 --> 00:10:01,000 concordance or something of that nature you'll find that it doesn't deal with proper names. 155 00:10:01,000 --> 00:10:06,000 And so what they do here is they transliterate these names. 156 00:10:06,000 --> 00:10:10,000 They approximate the way it's pronounced in the English. 157 00:10:10,000 --> 00:10:14,000 Let's take a quick look at the Hebrew that lies behind these names. 158 00:10:14,000 --> 00:10:16,000 The first name is Adam. 159 00:10:16,000 --> 00:10:21,000 It comes from Adamah which means man and that's pretty straightforward. 160 00:10:21,000 --> 00:10:23,000 Adam and Eve have a son named Seth. 161 00:10:23,000 --> 00:10:29,000 After Cain killed Zabel Eve has another as a son by the name of Seth. 162 00:10:29,000 --> 00:10:32,000 The word Seth means appointed. 163 00:10:32,000 --> 00:10:38,000 And you can infer this from the Hebrew root dictionary something of that nature but also 164 00:10:38,000 --> 00:10:41,000 Eve explains it to you at the end of chapter 4. 165 00:10:41,000 --> 00:10:48,000 Verse 25 when Seth is born Eve said for God hath appointed me another seed instead of 166 00:10:48,000 --> 00:10:49,000 Abel whom Cain slew. 167 00:10:49,000 --> 00:10:54,000 And when you look at a Hebrew Bible and look at the word appointed you'll find it's essentially 168 00:10:54,000 --> 00:10:58,000 the equivalent word of Seth. 169 00:10:58,000 --> 00:11:00,000 Appointed me another that became so. 170 00:11:00,000 --> 00:11:03,000 Okay he has a son by the name of Einash. 171 00:11:03,000 --> 00:11:08,000 Now this comes from a root which means mortal, frail or miserable. 172 00:11:08,000 --> 00:11:13,000 And the root is Einash which is an incurable thing usually used of a wound or sometimes 173 00:11:13,000 --> 00:11:16,000 of grief, sickness that sort of thing. 174 00:11:16,000 --> 00:11:20,000 And so that's kind of a rough handle to go through school with. 175 00:11:20,000 --> 00:11:22,000 Hey miserable you're on our team. 176 00:11:22,000 --> 00:11:24,000 It doesn't quite work. 177 00:11:24,000 --> 00:11:26,000 But he names his son Keenan. 178 00:11:26,000 --> 00:11:30,000 Some of your Bible say Keenan that's a misunderstanding. 179 00:11:30,000 --> 00:11:35,000 Keenan can mean sorrow, dirge or elegy like a funeral. 180 00:11:36,000 --> 00:11:42,000 Now he was tired I think of his name and his father's name so when he has a son he gives 181 00:11:42,000 --> 00:11:44,000 him a mouthful but a fabulous name. 182 00:11:44,000 --> 00:11:50,000 Mahalalal, Mahalalal, Mahalalal which means blessed or praised one and el the name of 183 00:11:50,000 --> 00:11:51,000 God. 184 00:11:51,000 --> 00:11:55,000 Mahalalalal means the praised God or the blessed God. 185 00:11:55,000 --> 00:11:58,000 That's pretty slick. 186 00:11:58,000 --> 00:12:02,000 Mahalalalal has a son by the name of Yared and it comes from the verb Yarad which means 187 00:12:02,000 --> 00:12:03,000 shall come down. 188 00:12:03,000 --> 00:12:08,000 That's very straightforward and there's more behind that but I'll leave it for now. 189 00:12:08,000 --> 00:12:09,000 His son is Enoch. 190 00:12:09,000 --> 00:12:13,000 Now we've mentioned Enoch because of the father of Methuselah. 191 00:12:13,000 --> 00:12:17,000 He's an interesting guy for many reasons but what does his name actually mean? 192 00:12:17,000 --> 00:12:19,000 It turns out it's an academic term. 193 00:12:19,000 --> 00:12:22,000 It means commencement or teaching. 194 00:12:22,000 --> 00:12:31,000 And so it's interesting that the oldest prophecy in the Bible uttered by a prophet is a prophecy 195 00:12:31,000 --> 00:12:35,000 of the second coming of Jesus Christ and it was uttered before the flood of Noah by 196 00:12:35,000 --> 00:12:36,000 Enoch. 197 00:12:36,000 --> 00:12:37,000 You won't find it here in Genesis. 198 00:12:37,000 --> 00:12:41,000 You'll find it in the book of Jude, the second to the last book of the Bible. 199 00:12:41,000 --> 00:12:45,000 And Enoch also seventh from Adam prophesied of these saying, Behold the Lord cometh with 200 00:12:45,000 --> 00:12:52,000 ten thousands of his saints to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly 201 00:12:52,000 --> 00:12:56,000 among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed and of all their 202 00:12:56,000 --> 00:13:01,000 hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him, Jesus Christ. 203 00:13:01,000 --> 00:13:06,000 So it's interesting that before the flood of Noah there are prophecies of the second 204 00:13:06,000 --> 00:13:07,000 coming. 205 00:13:07,000 --> 00:13:10,000 Now we know a lot from this prophecy in Jude. 206 00:13:10,000 --> 00:13:14,000 We know that the Lord's coming is certain, it's sure. 207 00:13:14,000 --> 00:13:16,000 We know who will come with him. 208 00:13:16,000 --> 00:13:21,000 We know the purpose of his coming and we know the result of his coming. 209 00:13:21,000 --> 00:13:27,000 All from this little prophecy of Enoch. 210 00:13:27,000 --> 00:13:32,000 Now the Enoch was translated, that is raptured if I can use that term. 211 00:13:32,000 --> 00:13:37,000 And he was apparently roughly midway between Adam and Abraham. 212 00:13:37,000 --> 00:13:41,000 We're going to discover another guy by the name of Elijah will be translated midway between 213 00:13:41,000 --> 00:13:43,000 Abraham and Christ. 214 00:13:43,000 --> 00:13:48,000 These are persons we'll deal with when we get there. 215 00:13:48,000 --> 00:13:53,000 Now in Hebrews 11-5 there's an allusion to Enoch being translated by faith Enoch was 216 00:13:53,000 --> 00:13:57,000 translated that he should not see death and was not found because God had translated 217 00:13:57,000 --> 00:14:03,000 him for before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God. 218 00:14:03,000 --> 00:14:06,000 So Enoch is quite a guy and he walked with God. 219 00:14:06,000 --> 00:14:09,000 That was not a casual stroll at last 300 years. 220 00:14:09,000 --> 00:14:14,000 He was walked with God, he was in agreement with, he was surrendered to, he was a witness 221 00:14:14,000 --> 00:14:15,000 of God. 222 00:14:15,000 --> 00:14:18,000 And that privilege that he had is available to us today. 223 00:14:18,000 --> 00:14:23,000 Now Loshan's Galatians and 2 Corinthians will point the way for this, for all of us 224 00:14:23,000 --> 00:14:25,000 in our own way to do that. 225 00:14:25,000 --> 00:14:27,000 But let's get back to a sudden Methuselah. 226 00:14:27,000 --> 00:14:33,000 I mentioned that his root means his death shall bring and as I say the year the flood came 227 00:14:33,000 --> 00:14:35,000 is the year that Methuselah died. 228 00:14:35,000 --> 00:14:38,000 Okay, well then we have Lamic, his son. 229 00:14:38,000 --> 00:14:43,000 And here's a root in the Hebrew that we have even in our English today, the, the, the, 230 00:14:43,000 --> 00:14:47,000 the resident in our English word lament or lamentation. 231 00:14:47,000 --> 00:14:52,000 And what does the Hebrew, a root really suggests despairing or its equivalent. 232 00:14:52,000 --> 00:14:56,000 And Lamic has a son by the name of Noah, which of course we've heard of. 233 00:14:56,000 --> 00:14:57,000 But what does this word mean? 234 00:14:57,000 --> 00:15:02,000 It comes from Nacham, which means to bring relief or comfort. 235 00:15:02,000 --> 00:15:04,000 Okay, comfort arrest. 236 00:15:04,000 --> 00:15:06,000 Now let's take a look at this genealogy again. 237 00:15:06,000 --> 00:15:12,000 We have Adam Seth, Enoch, Keenan, Mahalal, Yared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamic, and Noah. 238 00:15:12,000 --> 00:15:13,000 So far it's a good. 239 00:15:13,000 --> 00:15:18,000 Let's read this genealogy, this family tree, in English. 240 00:15:18,000 --> 00:15:24,000 Okay, man is appointed mortal sorrow. 241 00:15:24,000 --> 00:15:31,000 But the blessed God shall come down teaching that his death, whose death? 242 00:15:31,000 --> 00:15:33,000 God's death. 243 00:15:33,000 --> 00:15:36,000 His death shall bring the despairing comfort arrest. 244 00:15:36,000 --> 00:15:40,000 Yeah, every time, every time I do this I get goosebumps. 245 00:15:40,000 --> 00:15:44,000 God is appointed mortal sorrow, but the blessed God shall come down teaching that his death, 246 00:15:44,000 --> 00:15:48,000 God's death, shall bring the despairing comfort arrest. 247 00:15:48,000 --> 00:15:56,000 Here is a summary, a one-sentence summary of the Christian gospel tucked away in a genealogy 248 00:15:56,000 --> 00:16:02,000 in the Torah, in the book of Genesis, in specifically the book of Genesis. 249 00:16:02,000 --> 00:16:03,000 Has several implications. 250 00:16:03,000 --> 00:16:09,000 First of all, it demonstrates that God's plan of redemption was not a knee-jerk reaction 251 00:16:09,000 --> 00:16:10,000 to Adam's sin. 252 00:16:10,000 --> 00:16:17,000 He knew before Adam was created, that if given the chance he would get himself in a predicament, 253 00:16:17,000 --> 00:16:24,000 that nothing less than the death of God himself would avail to extricate him from that predicament. 254 00:16:24,000 --> 00:16:25,000 So it's a summary in that sense. 255 00:16:25,000 --> 00:16:30,000 But there's another aspect of this, even more practical in an apologetic sense. 256 00:16:30,000 --> 00:16:38,000 There's no way that you will ever convince me that a group of Jewish rabbis contrived 257 00:16:38,000 --> 00:16:46,000 to hide a summary of the Christian gospel in a genealogy in the Torah? 258 00:16:46,000 --> 00:16:47,000 No way. 259 00:16:47,000 --> 00:16:50,000 No, this is a fingerprint of the Holy Spirit. 260 00:16:50,000 --> 00:16:57,000 Now you don't build doctrine from these things. 261 00:16:57,000 --> 00:17:01,000 It has the same role in my mind that the little metal strip in your $20 bill has. 262 00:17:01,000 --> 00:17:04,000 It proves that the $20 bill is authentic. 263 00:17:04,000 --> 00:17:08,000 And when you find these structures hidden under the text, it doesn't change your understanding 264 00:17:08,000 --> 00:17:09,000 of the text. 265 00:17:09,000 --> 00:17:16,000 It simply authenticates its origin and it vindicates its authority. 266 00:17:16,000 --> 00:17:17,000 So we have one integrated design here. 267 00:17:17,000 --> 00:17:20,000 The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed. 268 00:17:20,000 --> 00:17:21,000 Here's an example. 269 00:17:21,000 --> 00:17:26,000 And the Old Testament, of course, is in the New Testament revealed. 270 00:17:26,000 --> 00:17:34,000 So again, I want to underscore the basic pillars of our ministry, the focus that makes us somewhat 271 00:17:34,000 --> 00:17:36,000 distinctive is based on two discoveries. 272 00:17:36,000 --> 00:17:41,000 The first discovery is that the 66 books that we have in our labs called the Bible, 273 00:17:41,000 --> 00:17:47,000 even though they are penned by over 40 different guys over thousands of years, they are an 274 00:17:47,000 --> 00:17:48,000 integrated message system. 275 00:17:48,000 --> 00:17:55,000 Every detail of those 66 books is there by design, a design that could not be anticipated 276 00:17:55,000 --> 00:17:58,000 by the penmen over those thousands of years. 277 00:17:58,000 --> 00:17:59,000 But it all fits together. 278 00:17:59,000 --> 00:18:03,000 It's just like you find a bunch of pieces and you put them together and find that they're 279 00:18:03,000 --> 00:18:08,000 perfectly meshed jigsaw puzzle with no pieces missing and no pieces left over. 280 00:18:08,000 --> 00:18:10,000 You begin to realize that was designed. 281 00:18:10,000 --> 00:18:13,000 It wasn't by accident. 282 00:18:13,000 --> 00:18:18,000 Now if you go that far in your understanding and again you need to discover that for yourself. 283 00:18:18,000 --> 00:18:22,000 But once you discover that for yourself, there's another insight that emerges and that is that 284 00:18:22,000 --> 00:18:29,000 the origin of that message system had to come from outside the dimensionality of time. 285 00:18:29,000 --> 00:18:39,000 There's not just the content of the structures and dissipate the content that's coming and 286 00:18:39,000 --> 00:18:43,000 that demonstrates it comes from outside the space-time domain. 287 00:18:43,000 --> 00:18:50,000 And once you discover that, it alters your entire approach and understanding of the Bible. 288 00:18:50,000 --> 00:18:54,000 You'll have an awe or reverence that comes no other way. 289 00:18:55,000 --> 00:18:59,000 Now let's get back to the text that we're getting into. 290 00:18:59,000 --> 00:19:00,000 But a little bit of background. 291 00:19:00,000 --> 00:19:04,000 Jesus made a strange remark when four disciples came to him for a confidential briefing on 292 00:19:04,000 --> 00:19:06,000 his second coming. 293 00:19:06,000 --> 00:19:08,000 He includes a strange remark. 294 00:19:08,000 --> 00:19:13,000 He says, as the days of Noah were, so shall the coming of the son of man be. 295 00:19:13,000 --> 00:19:17,000 Now most of us don't really understand what he meant because we don't know what the days 296 00:19:17,000 --> 00:19:18,000 of Noah were like. 297 00:19:18,000 --> 00:19:22,000 We know all about Noah's flood, but we may not have studied the reasons the flood came. 298 00:19:22,000 --> 00:19:25,000 That problem was at solving. 299 00:19:25,000 --> 00:19:26,000 Well the world was very sinful. 300 00:19:26,000 --> 00:19:27,000 But that's the case. 301 00:19:27,000 --> 00:19:28,000 We better get some life jackets. 302 00:19:28,000 --> 00:19:33,000 No, there's something deeper, I believe, behind all this. 303 00:19:33,000 --> 00:19:40,000 But as the days of Noah were, so shall the coming of the son of man be. 304 00:19:40,000 --> 00:19:45,000 In Genesis chapter 6, it opens up with a strange passage. 305 00:19:45,000 --> 00:19:49,000 It came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were 306 00:19:49,000 --> 00:19:54,000 born unto them that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair and 307 00:19:54,000 --> 00:19:58,000 took them wives of all which they chose. 308 00:19:58,000 --> 00:20:03,000 Now the first point I'd like you to notice because most people miss this is those two 309 00:20:03,000 --> 00:20:08,000 verses, Genesis 6 verses 1 and 2, are a single sentence. 310 00:20:08,000 --> 00:20:12,000 And that will aid us from making some mistakes here. 311 00:20:12,000 --> 00:20:15,000 It came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were 312 00:20:15,000 --> 00:20:16,000 born unto them. 313 00:20:16,000 --> 00:20:20,000 And that is the general and daughters in general, that the sons of God, and we'll 314 00:20:20,000 --> 00:20:21,000 come back to that term. 315 00:20:21,000 --> 00:20:24,000 It's a very special term, saw the daughters of men that they were fair and took them 316 00:20:24,000 --> 00:20:27,000 wives of all which they chose. 317 00:20:27,000 --> 00:20:32,000 This term, sons of God, is the is Benai Hahelohim. 318 00:20:32,000 --> 00:20:36,000 This term is used in the Old Testament of angels. 319 00:20:36,000 --> 00:20:38,000 Every place it appears, it's of angels. 320 00:20:38,000 --> 00:20:43,000 And the Old Testament appears in Job three different places, Job 1, 6, 2, 1 and 38, 7. 321 00:20:43,000 --> 00:20:49,000 And the New Testament you get the equivalent thing in Luke 20 verse 36. 322 00:20:49,000 --> 00:20:52,000 There is a Hebrew book. 323 00:20:52,000 --> 00:20:53,000 It's not part of the Bible. 324 00:20:53,000 --> 00:20:59,000 I'm not going to suggest that it's inspired, but it's a valuable book for grammar and vocabulary. 325 00:20:59,000 --> 00:21:03,000 It emerged about two centuries before Christ was very popular for several many centuries 326 00:21:03,000 --> 00:21:05,000 called the Book of Enoch. 327 00:21:05,000 --> 00:21:10,000 It wasn't really Enoch, it was compiled by some rabbis, but it does demonstrate the 328 00:21:10,000 --> 00:21:16,000 belief that they had in those days, and it also helps us with the vocabulary and the grammar. 329 00:21:16,000 --> 00:21:22,000 And it uses this term the same way of angels in great depth, perhaps even more authentively 330 00:21:22,000 --> 00:21:25,000 the Septuagint translation. 331 00:21:25,000 --> 00:21:30,000 Three centuries before the ministry of Jesus Christ, the Hebrew Scriptures were translated 332 00:21:30,000 --> 00:21:34,000 into Greek. 333 00:21:34,000 --> 00:21:37,000 The Greek is a very, very precise language. 334 00:21:37,000 --> 00:21:41,000 The best scholars they could find came from Jerusalem to Alexandria to do this work. 335 00:21:41,000 --> 00:21:45,000 It took 15 years for them to make the translation. 336 00:21:45,000 --> 00:21:50,000 And the Greek is very specific and it does illuminate this passage in the direction we're 337 00:21:50,000 --> 00:21:51,000 talking about. 338 00:21:51,000 --> 00:21:55,000 We also find this passage, the daughters of men, binothadam. 339 00:21:55,000 --> 00:21:56,000 These are daughters of Adam. 340 00:21:56,000 --> 00:22:00,000 I want to emphasize that because some people try to make this something else. 341 00:22:00,000 --> 00:22:01,000 It's the daughters of Adam. 342 00:22:01,000 --> 00:22:06,000 So this is the same term in the earlier part of the sentence in Genesis chapter 1 verse 343 00:22:06,000 --> 00:22:07,000 2. 344 00:22:07,000 --> 00:22:13,000 When you get down to verse 4 of chapter 6 of Genesis, it says, there were nephilim in the 345 00:22:13,000 --> 00:22:18,000 earth in those days, and also after that when the sons of God came in unto the daughters 346 00:22:18,000 --> 00:22:23,000 of men, and they bear children to them, the same became mighty men, which were of old, 347 00:22:23,000 --> 00:22:26,000 men of renown. 348 00:22:26,000 --> 00:22:30,000 So this word nephilim is another word that's important to understand. 349 00:22:30,000 --> 00:22:33,000 It's a very distinctive word. 350 00:22:33,000 --> 00:22:35,000 It means the fallen ones. 351 00:22:35,000 --> 00:22:41,000 It comes from the verb nephal, which is to fall away, to be cast down away, to fall away 352 00:22:41,000 --> 00:22:42,000 to desert, if you will. 353 00:22:42,000 --> 00:22:45,000 The nephilim are the fallen ones. 354 00:22:45,000 --> 00:22:50,000 These give rise to the Hagia barim, the mighty ones, and we'll hear more about them as we 355 00:22:50,000 --> 00:22:51,000 get through the Scripture. 356 00:22:51,000 --> 00:22:56,000 Now the Septuagint, that is the Greek translation of this, the word nephilim was translated 357 00:22:56,000 --> 00:23:01,000 jigantas, which is rendered in your English Bible as giants. 358 00:23:01,000 --> 00:23:06,000 Now they did happen to be giants, that's another issue, but the word jigantas doesn't 359 00:23:06,000 --> 00:23:07,000 really mean giants. 360 00:23:07,000 --> 00:23:11,000 It comes from jigants, which means earthborn. 361 00:23:11,000 --> 00:23:14,000 So in the Greek they're the earthborn, and the Hebrew they're the fallen ones, these 362 00:23:14,000 --> 00:23:15,000 are hybrids. 363 00:23:15,000 --> 00:23:18,000 These are something unique and strange. 364 00:23:18,000 --> 00:23:24,000 Furthermore, when you get to verse 9 of Genesis 6, it speaks of Noah's family tree. 365 00:23:24,000 --> 00:23:26,000 These are the generations of Noah. 366 00:23:26,000 --> 00:23:31,000 Noah is a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 367 00:23:31,000 --> 00:23:35,000 Same phrase we used with Enoch, interestingly enough. 368 00:23:35,000 --> 00:23:37,000 But he was perfect in his generations. 369 00:23:37,000 --> 00:23:43,000 This word in the Hebrew is tameen, which means without blemish sound, helpful, without spot, 370 00:23:43,000 --> 00:23:44,000 unimpaired. 371 00:23:44,000 --> 00:23:46,000 It's a term used of physical defects. 372 00:23:46,000 --> 00:23:54,000 What this says in the Hebrew is that Noah's genealogy was not tainted, was not blemished 373 00:23:54,000 --> 00:23:59,000 by the goings on. 374 00:23:59,000 --> 00:24:05,000 What we're suggesting here is that the fall of the angels came down to the earth and contrived 375 00:24:05,000 --> 00:24:09,000 some way to generate hybrids. 376 00:24:09,000 --> 00:24:15,000 I believe that this was Satan's strategy to try to corrupt the human line to try to avert 377 00:24:15,000 --> 00:24:18,000 any possibility of a redeemer. 378 00:24:18,000 --> 00:24:21,000 We'll talk more about that as it goes. 379 00:24:21,000 --> 00:24:24,000 This is what's called the angel view of Genesis 6. 380 00:24:24,000 --> 00:24:25,000 We'll get into this more. 381 00:24:25,000 --> 00:24:29,000 If this is valid, we would expect, this is a very strange idea. 382 00:24:29,000 --> 00:24:31,000 I grant you. 383 00:24:31,000 --> 00:24:35,000 But if this is valid, we would find it confirmed in the New Testament. 384 00:24:35,000 --> 00:24:38,000 Things are always confirmed by two or three witnesses. 385 00:24:38,000 --> 00:24:46,000 In only one chapter, chapter 1, verses 6 and 7 is the following. 386 00:24:46,000 --> 00:24:53,000 Jews says, "...the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation. 387 00:24:53,000 --> 00:24:59,000 He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 388 00:24:59,000 --> 00:25:03,000 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves 389 00:25:03,000 --> 00:25:08,000 over to fornication and going after strange flesh are set forth for an example, suffering 390 00:25:08,000 --> 00:25:10,000 the vengeance of eternal fire." 391 00:25:10,000 --> 00:25:15,000 Jude is making another point, but he makes reference to not only Sodom and Gomorrah, but 392 00:25:15,000 --> 00:25:22,000 these angels which went after strange flesh in Genesis chapter 6. 393 00:25:22,000 --> 00:25:26,000 Peter also talks about this. 394 00:25:26,000 --> 00:25:32,000 I'll come back by the way to Jude, this word habitation, the angels which kept not their 395 00:25:32,000 --> 00:25:34,000 first estate, but left their own habitation. 396 00:25:34,000 --> 00:25:37,000 We'll come back to that. 397 00:25:37,000 --> 00:25:39,000 In 2 Peter, a similar remark is made. 398 00:25:39,000 --> 00:25:44,000 Peter says, "...For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to 399 00:25:44,000 --> 00:25:46,000 Tartarus, he uses a strange word. 400 00:25:46,000 --> 00:25:49,000 It's translated to hell in your Bible, but it's a strange word. 401 00:25:49,000 --> 00:25:53,000 It's the only place that this word occurs in the Bible. 402 00:25:53,000 --> 00:25:56,000 Cast them down to Tartarus and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto 403 00:25:56,000 --> 00:26:00,000 judgment and spared not the old world, but saved Noah and he goes on. 404 00:26:00,000 --> 00:26:01,000 He adds an interesting thing. 405 00:26:01,000 --> 00:26:06,000 He ties this strange going on to the days of Noah. 406 00:26:06,000 --> 00:26:10,000 But this word Tartarus probably deserves a little comment because it's unique here. 407 00:26:10,000 --> 00:26:13,000 It's not unique in Greek, it's used in other literature, but it's the only place in the 408 00:26:13,000 --> 00:26:15,000 Bible that occurs. 409 00:26:15,000 --> 00:26:17,000 Tartarus was to the Greeks. 410 00:26:17,000 --> 00:26:21,000 It's a term for the dark abode of woe. 411 00:26:21,000 --> 00:26:24,000 It's the pit of darkness of the unseen world. 412 00:26:24,000 --> 00:26:30,000 In Homer's Iliad, it's described as being as far below Hades as the earth is below heaven. 413 00:26:30,000 --> 00:26:34,000 So I still don't know where it is, but I don't want to go there. 414 00:26:34,000 --> 00:26:39,000 It's an illusion, we believe, to not only to Hades, but maybe a very special part of 415 00:26:39,000 --> 00:26:40,000 it. 416 00:26:40,000 --> 00:26:46,000 Now this whole idea of angels, fallen angels, coming down and mixing with human women to 417 00:26:46,000 --> 00:26:53,000 create a hybrid is a strange concept, but we're startled to discover that legend. 418 00:26:53,000 --> 00:26:56,000 It gives rise to legends in every ancient culture. 419 00:26:56,000 --> 00:27:01,000 The Greek Titans are probably familiar to most of us in the Western world. 420 00:27:01,000 --> 00:27:06,000 The Titans were part of the Greek mythology, partly terrestrial, partly celestial. 421 00:27:06,000 --> 00:27:11,000 They rebelled against their father Uranus, and after a prolonged contest were defeated 422 00:27:11,000 --> 00:27:14,000 by Zeus and then condemned into Tartarus. 423 00:27:14,000 --> 00:27:19,000 That's all part of the Greek mythology, but apparently embodies a memory of some serious 424 00:27:19,000 --> 00:27:24,000 things that did happen in the prehistory. 425 00:27:24,000 --> 00:27:30,000 These legends will find in Sumer, Assyria, in Egypt, the Incas, Mayan, the Epic of Gilgamesh. 426 00:27:30,000 --> 00:27:36,000 To find these equivalent legends in Persia, obviously in Greece, in India, Bolivia, South 427 00:27:36,000 --> 00:27:39,000 Sea islands, even the Sioux Indians. 428 00:27:39,000 --> 00:27:44,000 It's interesting, I'm told by the anthropologists, that the American Indians, when they met a 429 00:27:44,000 --> 00:27:46,000 stranger, they would hold up a hand. 430 00:27:46,000 --> 00:27:48,000 This business of howl is Hollywood stuff. 431 00:27:48,000 --> 00:27:52,000 But holding up a hand, if you had a stranger, you wanted to count his fingers, because they 432 00:27:52,000 --> 00:27:55,000 had a terror of the six fingered men. 433 00:27:55,000 --> 00:28:01,000 They have legends of all kinds among the American Indians, of these giants that populated 434 00:28:01,000 --> 00:28:05,000 the earth, came down from the star people. 435 00:28:05,000 --> 00:28:08,000 They were very, very large, very powerful. 436 00:28:08,000 --> 00:28:15,000 And you even find illusions to these, and Buffalo builds autobiography, and so on. 437 00:28:15,000 --> 00:28:21,000 In the classic art, we have Hercules, who was an ephalan in Hebrew, and Atlas. 438 00:28:22,000 --> 00:28:28,000 These legends derive from the same kind of these hybrids. 439 00:28:28,000 --> 00:28:31,000 Now there is an alternative view. 440 00:28:31,000 --> 00:28:36,000 There are many people, that are graduates from seminaries, that have never been exposed 441 00:28:36,000 --> 00:28:39,000 to the angel view that I'm sharing with you. 442 00:28:39,000 --> 00:28:44,000 They've been taught, many people have been taught, that the sons of God term really 443 00:28:44,000 --> 00:28:47,000 refers to the line of Seth. 444 00:28:47,000 --> 00:28:50,000 Seth, these were presumably the good guys. 445 00:28:51,000 --> 00:28:56,000 The sons of God is a term they try to ascribe to the Sethite leadership. 446 00:28:56,000 --> 00:28:59,000 And the daughters of Adam, they say, well, it really wasn't the daughters of Adam, it 447 00:28:59,000 --> 00:29:01,000 was daughters of just Cain. 448 00:29:01,000 --> 00:29:05,000 And I don't know what's wrong with the daughters of the others, but anyway. 449 00:29:05,000 --> 00:29:08,000 And the sin that's involved there is that failure to maintain separation. 450 00:29:08,000 --> 00:29:12,000 They try to make the, at least that the line of Seth should be separate, and they commingled 451 00:29:12,000 --> 00:29:15,000 with Cain, the daughters of Cain, they should have done that. 452 00:29:15,000 --> 00:29:19,000 So the failure of separation, they assume, is the sin involved. 453 00:29:19,000 --> 00:29:24,000 The problem with this, this command to stay separate is 11 chapters later, or anyway, 454 00:29:24,000 --> 00:29:28,000 substantial chapters later. 455 00:29:28,000 --> 00:29:34,000 And they don't explain why the offspring of these two families would be supernaturally 456 00:29:34,000 --> 00:29:38,000 weird, the Nephilim, which were obviously distinctive. 457 00:29:38,000 --> 00:29:43,000 This view, the so-called line of Seth view, emerged in the fifth century. 458 00:29:43,000 --> 00:29:48,000 Celises and joining the postate used the traditional belief of these fallen angels and so forth 459 00:29:48,000 --> 00:29:50,000 to attack Christianity. 460 00:29:50,000 --> 00:29:55,000 And Julius Ephricontus resorted to the Sethite theory as a more comfortable way of defending 461 00:29:55,000 --> 00:29:56,000 the Scripture. 462 00:29:56,000 --> 00:30:01,000 And that was fine, except, and Cyril of Alexander used it to repudiate the Orthodox position. 463 00:30:01,000 --> 00:30:04,000 They said the Orthodox position was quaint, but not true. 464 00:30:04,000 --> 00:30:08,000 And Augustine embraced the Sethite theory. 465 00:30:08,000 --> 00:30:15,000 And by his doing so, it became the primary doctrine of the medieval church and has endured 466 00:30:15,000 --> 00:30:19,000 through the derivative denominations from the Reformation and the rest of it. 467 00:30:19,000 --> 00:30:22,000 So it prevails right into the Middle Ages. 468 00:30:22,000 --> 00:30:27,000 However, the text itself said, the sons of God has never used a believer in the Old Testament. 469 00:30:27,000 --> 00:30:29,000 Seth was not God, Cain was not Adam. 470 00:30:29,000 --> 00:30:31,000 These are all contrivances. 471 00:30:31,000 --> 00:30:35,000 And there's no mentions of the daughters of Elohim, it's unbalanced. 472 00:30:35,000 --> 00:30:41,000 There's an antithesis, a grammatical antithesis that is ignored, and I won't get to that here. 473 00:30:41,000 --> 00:30:45,000 The lines were separated later, it isn't until Genesis 11 that we have the separation 474 00:30:45,000 --> 00:30:46,000 imposed. 475 00:30:46,000 --> 00:30:49,000 And that was only on Isaac, Ishmael not so. 476 00:30:49,000 --> 00:30:53,000 And furthermore, Genesis 6 says all flesh was corrupted. 477 00:30:53,000 --> 00:30:55,000 There were no good guys, if you will. 478 00:30:55,000 --> 00:30:58,000 And Noah found grace, and that's a whole other issue. 479 00:30:58,000 --> 00:31:01,000 But only Enoch and Noah's eight are spared. 480 00:31:01,000 --> 00:31:02,000 Now, think about this. 481 00:31:02,000 --> 00:31:07,000 God chose to wipe out the entire world except for nine people. 482 00:31:07,000 --> 00:31:11,000 He removes Enoch first, and then these eight on the barge, or boat that we'll get to, are 483 00:31:11,000 --> 00:31:14,000 spared. 484 00:31:14,000 --> 00:31:21,000 And also these Baha'i Helohim took wives. 485 00:31:21,000 --> 00:31:24,000 It doesn't sound like they had any choice in the matter. 486 00:31:24,000 --> 00:31:26,000 They chose who they wanted to. 487 00:31:26,000 --> 00:31:31,000 And if the Sethites were the good guys, why did they perish in the flood? 488 00:31:31,000 --> 00:31:37,000 But furthermore, Enoch who had Seth's son is the guy that initiated defiance of God, 489 00:31:37,000 --> 00:31:41,000 if you study the text carefully. 490 00:31:41,000 --> 00:31:47,000 See in Genesis 4 verse 26 in the previous chapter, we discover if there's a mistranslation, 491 00:31:47,000 --> 00:31:48,000 men began to call upon the name of the Lord. 492 00:31:48,000 --> 00:31:51,000 It says no, men began to profane the name of the Lord. 493 00:31:51,000 --> 00:31:58,000 And that's in the target of uncleos, the target of Jonathan, the Hebrew translations 494 00:31:58,000 --> 00:32:02,000 out of the most venerated translations among the rabbis. 495 00:32:02,000 --> 00:32:05,000 Make it quite clear that Enoch was bad news. 496 00:32:05,000 --> 00:32:12,000 So the line of Seth was not the good guys and Cain, the bad guys, quite the contrary. 497 00:32:12,000 --> 00:32:15,000 Cain murders brother and yes he did sin. 498 00:32:15,000 --> 00:32:18,000 But you'll also notice if you look at his genealogy, his children for several generations 499 00:32:18,000 --> 00:32:20,000 carried the name of God in them. 500 00:32:20,000 --> 00:32:21,000 I believe they were believers. 501 00:32:21,000 --> 00:32:24,000 I believe they were repentant believers. 502 00:32:24,000 --> 00:32:31,000 Anyway, in the rabbinical literature, this is the one that supports this angel view of 503 00:32:31,000 --> 00:32:33,000 Genesis 6. 504 00:32:33,000 --> 00:32:37,000 The whole idea of the Nephilim being unnatural is important. 505 00:32:37,000 --> 00:32:41,000 They had supernatural offspring, the so-called Hagibari and the mighty men. 506 00:32:41,000 --> 00:32:44,000 And there were no women of renown, what's going on here? 507 00:32:44,000 --> 00:32:47,000 And what made Noah's genealogy so distinctive? 508 00:32:47,000 --> 00:32:52,000 See it's a gene pool problem that underlies the flood of Noah. 509 00:32:52,000 --> 00:32:57,000 Now this angel view of course is a traditional rabbinical view. 510 00:32:57,000 --> 00:33:02,000 The book of Enoch supports it, not that it's inspired by speaking of vocabulary and grammar. 511 00:33:02,000 --> 00:33:08,000 As well as other literature, the testimony of twelve patriarchs Josephus presents this 512 00:33:08,000 --> 00:33:09,000 to Septuagint. 513 00:33:09,000 --> 00:33:15,000 The early church fathers taught this, Father Alexandria, Justin Martyr, Aaronaeus and 514 00:33:15,000 --> 00:33:18,000 the rest of them. 515 00:33:18,000 --> 00:33:24,000 Modern scholarship, GH Pember, Dehaan, McIntosh, Dilich, Gablein, Martha W. Pink, Donald 516 00:33:24,000 --> 00:33:30,000 Gray Barnhouse, Henry Morris, Arnold Fricktonbaum, Hal Lindsey, Chuck Smith, modern scholarship 517 00:33:30,000 --> 00:33:33,000 also embraces this. 518 00:33:33,000 --> 00:33:38,000 The Sethite view that most people have been taught, even in seminaries, is unscriptural. 519 00:33:38,000 --> 00:33:42,000 The text is self-refutes it, the inferred separation is nonsense, the inferred godliness of Sethites 520 00:33:42,000 --> 00:33:49,000 is not true, the inferred kingite subset, Adamites, the unnatural offspring, the New 521 00:33:49,000 --> 00:33:51,000 Testament confirmations. 522 00:33:51,000 --> 00:33:55,000 But perhaps the most important thing, and that's one reason I'm spending this time on 523 00:33:55,000 --> 00:34:01,000 it, you will not understand much of what happened in the Old Testament and you won't understand 524 00:34:01,000 --> 00:34:05,000 some of the prophetic issues unless you understand this view. 525 00:34:05,000 --> 00:34:08,000 I used to think, well it's just a view and there's two different views and that's fine, 526 00:34:08,000 --> 00:34:16,000 let's go on, until I realize that this undergirds a great deal of understanding or misunderstanding 527 00:34:16,000 --> 00:34:20,000 of the Old Testament, if you, whether or not you understand the angel view. 528 00:34:20,000 --> 00:34:27,000 You see there were Nephilim after the flood also and Genesis 6 and 4 said, in those days 529 00:34:27,000 --> 00:34:29,000 and also after that. 530 00:34:29,000 --> 00:34:33,000 And you'll discover when Joshua goes into the land, when he finds against the land there 531 00:34:33,000 --> 00:34:40,000 are at least four tribes, tribal names that he's instructed by God to wipe out every 532 00:34:40,000 --> 00:34:45,000 man, woman and child of these tribes, the rifaeim, the emim, the horeim, the zumzumim. 533 00:34:45,000 --> 00:34:51,000 These were vestiges of the Nephilim, Arba, Anak and the sons, the Anakim when they encountered 534 00:34:51,000 --> 00:34:58,000 kingites in Numbers 13 and 33, when Moses sends the twelve spies into the land, despite 535 00:34:58,000 --> 00:35:01,000 the land, the ten of them come back and say, we're grasshoppers in their sight, we're 536 00:35:01,000 --> 00:35:02,000 terrified. 537 00:35:02,000 --> 00:35:06,000 Now two of them, Joshua and Caleb said, no, let's God, Lord's on our side go. 538 00:35:06,000 --> 00:35:11,000 Because they trembled and didn't go, they wanted for virtually forty years in the wilderness. 539 00:35:11,000 --> 00:35:12,000 What did they encounter? 540 00:35:12,000 --> 00:35:17,000 They encountered Nephilim, Numbers 13 and 33, there were Nephilim in the land. 541 00:35:17,000 --> 00:35:18,000 So it's important to understand this. 542 00:35:18,000 --> 00:35:21,000 All the king of Bishan was the king of the giants, there were Nephilim up in the Galan 543 00:35:21,000 --> 00:35:25,000 Heights, that's the Deuteronomy 3 and Joshua 12 and so on. 544 00:35:25,000 --> 00:35:31,000 Goliath and his four brothers were Anakim, sons of Anak and so forth. 545 00:35:31,000 --> 00:35:35,000 See these are stratagems of Satan, he was attempting to corrupt Adam's line. 546 00:35:35,000 --> 00:35:39,000 When we get to Genesis 12 and God calls Abraham and announce that his plan of redemption 547 00:35:39,000 --> 00:35:44,000 man isn't just, his redemption doesn't just involve man, it's going to involve specifically 548 00:35:44,000 --> 00:35:47,000 Abraham and his descendants. 549 00:35:47,000 --> 00:35:53,000 Satan could then focus his attack on Abraham, the famine, the destruction of the male line 550 00:35:53,000 --> 00:35:54,000 and the exodus. 551 00:35:54,000 --> 00:35:59,000 Pharaoh's perceiving after he released him, Pharaoh pursues them to wipe them out. 552 00:35:59,000 --> 00:36:04,000 Satan is trying to wipe out the Jews because he's trying to wipe out God's program of 553 00:36:04,000 --> 00:36:06,000 redemption. 554 00:36:06,000 --> 00:36:13,000 When they finally return to, well when God announces to Abraham that his descendants 555 00:36:13,000 --> 00:36:17,000 400 years later are going to return to Canaan, that gave Satan four centuries laid out of 556 00:36:17,000 --> 00:36:23,000 minefield and he'll populate Canaan with these strange creatures. 557 00:36:23,000 --> 00:36:27,000 When God reveals that his plan is going to involve David, that allows Satan to focus 558 00:36:27,000 --> 00:36:30,000 his attack against David's line. 559 00:36:30,000 --> 00:36:34,000 And as you go right through the whole chronicle from the second chronicles, Isaiah, so forth, 560 00:36:34,000 --> 00:36:39,000 you'll discover again and again there's attempts to wipe out the royal line but there's always 561 00:36:39,000 --> 00:36:45,000 somebody that gets saved, a servant that saves a child and so forth to maintain that line. 562 00:36:45,000 --> 00:36:50,000 And even when you get to the Book of Esther, the Persian Empire, Haman tries to wipe out 563 00:36:50,000 --> 00:36:55,000 the Jews, again it's a tannic plot, very analogous to what Hitler tried to do in more recent 564 00:36:55,000 --> 00:36:56,000 times. 565 00:36:56,000 --> 00:37:00,000 When you get to the New Testament, it continues, Joseph's fear when Mary's pregnant, that was 566 00:37:00,000 --> 00:37:02,000 a capital situation there. 567 00:37:02,000 --> 00:37:05,000 Herod's attempts to wipe out all the babies and Bethlehem. 568 00:37:05,000 --> 00:37:10,000 When they try to throw Jesus off the cliff in Nazareth, there were two storms at sea and 569 00:37:10,000 --> 00:37:16,000 I personally suspect that those storms were not normal storms, they were exceptional storms. 570 00:37:16,000 --> 00:37:21,000 The disciples aboard were professional seamen that knew those waters and they were terrified, 571 00:37:21,000 --> 00:37:22,000 something strange going on in there. 572 00:37:23,000 --> 00:37:26,000 And of course the old thing is the cross and it's still not through, one reason you need 573 00:37:26,000 --> 00:37:31,000 to understand this because Satan is still at it in a variety of different ways. 574 00:37:31,000 --> 00:37:33,000 You don't understand that. 575 00:37:33,000 --> 00:37:38,000 Let's talk a little bit about angels because I think they're often widely misunderstood. 576 00:37:38,000 --> 00:37:42,000 Angels always seem to appear in human form. 577 00:37:42,000 --> 00:37:44,000 At Sodom and Gomorrah they were there. 578 00:37:44,000 --> 00:37:48,000 The homosexuals wanted to attack them, it tells you something about angels. 579 00:37:48,000 --> 00:37:53,000 They're always in pairs at the resurrection, at the ascension and other places. 580 00:37:53,000 --> 00:37:55,000 Angels spoke to men. 581 00:37:55,000 --> 00:37:57,000 They took people by the hand. 582 00:37:57,000 --> 00:37:59,000 They ate meals with them. 583 00:37:59,000 --> 00:38:05,000 The New Testament tells us that many of us have entertained angels' unawares so they apparently 584 00:38:05,000 --> 00:38:08,000 can take human form. 585 00:38:08,000 --> 00:38:11,000 They are capable of direct physical combat. 586 00:38:11,000 --> 00:38:14,000 The Passover in Egypt was the result of the death of angel in Egypt. 587 00:38:14,000 --> 00:38:21,000 One angel after dinner one night slaughters 185,000 Syrians. 588 00:38:21,000 --> 00:38:28,000 So we'll get into some of this as we get into those descriptions. 589 00:38:28,000 --> 00:38:34,000 But the point is angels are capable of materializing and engaging in physical combat. 590 00:38:34,000 --> 00:38:41,000 We do know that angels in heaven don't marry because marriage, appropriation is for mortal 591 00:38:41,000 --> 00:38:43,000 people is a way of multiplying mortal people. 592 00:38:43,000 --> 00:38:49,000 These are not intended to be reproducing. 593 00:38:49,000 --> 00:38:53,000 Because they don't marry in heaven many people assume they can't have sex. 594 00:38:53,000 --> 00:38:55,000 Let's be careful here. 595 00:38:55,000 --> 00:39:03,000 I think the Scripture makes no restriction on technology available to them, especially 596 00:39:03,000 --> 00:39:04,000 if they're bent on mischief. 597 00:39:04,000 --> 00:39:06,000 That's what we're dealing with here. 598 00:39:06,000 --> 00:39:08,000 Angels are formidable. 599 00:39:08,000 --> 00:39:11,000 Demons in the New Testament are very different creatures. 600 00:39:11,000 --> 00:39:13,000 They always seek embodiment. 601 00:39:13,000 --> 00:39:15,000 Angels are materialized. 602 00:39:15,000 --> 00:39:16,000 Demons can. 603 00:39:16,000 --> 00:39:22,000 Demons appear to be powerless except to the extent that they can indwell a host of some 604 00:39:22,000 --> 00:39:23,000 kind. 605 00:39:23,000 --> 00:39:25,000 And they have to do that with permission apparently. 606 00:39:25,000 --> 00:39:30,000 So you want it when you study your Bible, summarize what you think you'll learn about 607 00:39:30,000 --> 00:39:32,000 angels and summarize what you learn about demons. 608 00:39:32,000 --> 00:39:35,000 I think you'll find they're distinctively different. 609 00:39:35,000 --> 00:39:44,000 In Matthew 22 and also Mark 12, he says, speaking of believers that are in the resurrection 610 00:39:44,000 --> 00:39:45,000 body. 611 00:39:45,000 --> 00:39:48,000 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are as the angels 612 00:39:48,000 --> 00:39:50,000 of God in heaven. 613 00:39:50,000 --> 00:39:55,000 And that simply means that sex and procreation is not part of the program there. 614 00:39:55,000 --> 00:40:00,000 That doesn't make any comment about angels that are up to mischief might do. 615 00:40:00,000 --> 00:40:02,000 This word habitation is a fascinating word. 616 00:40:02,000 --> 00:40:04,000 The word in the Greek is ochitarian. 617 00:40:04,000 --> 00:40:07,000 It only appears twice in the Bible. 618 00:40:07,000 --> 00:40:12,000 It refers to the body as a dwelling place for the spirit but it's used two places. 619 00:40:12,000 --> 00:40:17,000 In Jude 6 it's that which the angels had disrobed from. 620 00:40:17,000 --> 00:40:24,000 In 2 Corinthians 5, 2 it's alluding to the heavenly body that we aspire to as believers. 621 00:40:24,000 --> 00:40:30,000 And in Jude 6 the angels which kept not their first estate but left their own habitation. 622 00:40:30,000 --> 00:40:32,000 There's that word ochitarian. 623 00:40:33,000 --> 00:40:38,000 In 2 Corinthians 5 it says, we know that if our heavenly house of this tabernacle 624 00:40:38,000 --> 00:40:42,000 dissolved we have a building of God, a house not made with hands eternal in heaven. 625 00:40:42,000 --> 00:40:49,000 For in this we groan earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house or habitation 626 00:40:49,000 --> 00:40:52,000 or ochitarian which is from heaven. 627 00:40:52,000 --> 00:40:54,000 So it's interesting. 628 00:40:54,000 --> 00:40:55,000 Same term. 629 00:40:55,000 --> 00:41:00,000 I think this is a highly technical term used in a very specific way. 630 00:41:00,000 --> 00:41:04,000 It's all he has is roots in Genesis 3 when God declares war on Satan. 631 00:41:04,000 --> 00:41:08,000 He says, I'll put enmity between thee, the nakash, the shining one, and the woman between 632 00:41:08,000 --> 00:41:09,000 thy seed and her seed. 633 00:41:09,000 --> 00:41:13,000 He shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel. 634 00:41:13,000 --> 00:41:16,000 So we have a conflict between two seeds. 635 00:41:16,000 --> 00:41:20,000 The seed of the woman from that passage becomes a title of Jesus Christ. 636 00:41:20,000 --> 00:41:23,000 It becomes a messianic label, the seed of the woman. 637 00:41:23,000 --> 00:41:27,000 Which incidentally is a contradiction in terms because the seed is the man, not the woman. 638 00:41:27,000 --> 00:41:30,000 It's a contradiction in biology, not just grammar. 639 00:41:30,000 --> 00:41:37,000 But of course it's an illusion that Isaiah 714 picks up as an indication of a virgin birth. 640 00:41:37,000 --> 00:41:39,000 We'll talk more about that when we get there. 641 00:41:39,000 --> 00:41:42,000 But it also alludes to the seed of the serpent. 642 00:41:42,000 --> 00:41:47,000 There's another seed, the serpent being the red dragon. 643 00:41:47,000 --> 00:41:51,000 These are allusions to the coming world leader who is assisted by a false prophet. 644 00:41:51,000 --> 00:41:56,000 And this duo is going to wreak havoc and we'll deal with that when we get there too. 645 00:41:56,000 --> 00:41:59,000 But these forces are behind the world today. 646 00:41:59,000 --> 00:42:01,000 We need to recognize that. 647 00:42:01,000 --> 00:42:02,000 They have an agenda. 648 00:42:02,000 --> 00:42:09,000 That agenda is to entrap you into and bring you to oblivion. 649 00:42:09,000 --> 00:42:11,000 The flood of Noah. 650 00:42:11,000 --> 00:42:13,000 This has all been background. 651 00:42:13,000 --> 00:42:16,000 Now we get to the famous story of Noah's ark. 652 00:42:16,000 --> 00:42:20,000 It's amazing how many people say, well, the skeptics say that ark was not big enough 653 00:42:20,000 --> 00:42:21,000 to hold all the species. 654 00:42:21,000 --> 00:42:22,000 Couldn't be. 655 00:42:22,000 --> 00:42:23,000 Well, how big was the ark? 656 00:42:23,000 --> 00:42:24,000 They don't know. 657 00:42:24,000 --> 00:42:25,000 They don't know. 658 00:42:25,000 --> 00:42:26,000 Sure. 659 00:42:26,000 --> 00:42:27,000 Well, let's take a look at this. 660 00:42:27,000 --> 00:42:32,000 The ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high. 661 00:42:32,000 --> 00:42:33,000 It's specified. 662 00:42:33,000 --> 00:42:36,000 There's some scholastic debate just exactly what a cubit is. 663 00:42:36,000 --> 00:42:41,000 Anywhere from 18 to 22 inches is the typical estimate. 664 00:42:41,000 --> 00:42:44,000 For our purposes, we'll just assume it's 18 inches, foot and a half. 665 00:42:44,000 --> 00:42:50,000 That would make this ark 450 feet long. 666 00:42:50,000 --> 00:42:55,000 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. 667 00:42:55,000 --> 00:43:02,000 They would have a displacement then of approximately 24,000 tons, 1.4 million cubic feet. 668 00:43:02,000 --> 00:43:06,000 The equivalent roughly of 522 railroad cars. 669 00:43:06,000 --> 00:43:10,000 That's a non-trivial volumetric space. 670 00:43:10,000 --> 00:43:15,000 That would be room enough for 125,000 sheep. 671 00:43:15,000 --> 00:43:18,000 Now taking a sheep is a nominal average. 672 00:43:18,000 --> 00:43:21,000 Obviously, many animals are smaller, more smaller than larger. 673 00:43:21,000 --> 00:43:23,000 And there are, of course, obviously some large exceptions. 674 00:43:23,000 --> 00:43:26,000 In any case, how many species? 675 00:43:26,000 --> 00:43:30,000 A defendable estimate is about 18,000 on the high side. 676 00:43:30,000 --> 00:43:32,000 So you've got 125,000 sheep. 677 00:43:32,000 --> 00:43:34,000 You've got room for 18,000 species. 678 00:43:34,000 --> 00:43:37,000 That leaves you room for some a few large ones. 679 00:43:37,000 --> 00:43:39,000 And now there's a couple of other. 680 00:43:39,000 --> 00:43:40,000 We don't know. 681 00:43:40,000 --> 00:43:47,000 We do know that whatever entered the ark a year later left, they lost none, gained none. 682 00:43:47,000 --> 00:43:49,000 Losing none, OK, finally they were preserved, none died. 683 00:43:49,000 --> 00:43:51,000 That's surprising. 684 00:43:51,000 --> 00:43:57,000 And secondly, the fact there was no bollification, no additions, indicates that God somehow, 685 00:43:57,000 --> 00:44:02,000 most scholars presume, we didn't say this, but presume that some kind of hibernation may 686 00:44:02,000 --> 00:44:03,000 have been established. 687 00:44:03,000 --> 00:44:07,000 Because God is in this thing, obviously. 688 00:44:07,000 --> 00:44:09,000 But let's go a little further. 689 00:44:09,000 --> 00:44:13,000 This is all based on the cubit of 18 inches, the most common estimates you see in most 690 00:44:13,000 --> 00:44:14,000 of the textbooks. 691 00:44:14,000 --> 00:44:18,000 But there are cubits that virtually approach 25 inches. 692 00:44:18,000 --> 00:44:22,000 If it was a 25-inch cubit, just to give you some feeling here, that would be 625 feet 693 00:44:22,000 --> 00:44:27,000 long, 100 feet wide and 63 feet long, I mean deep. 694 00:44:27,000 --> 00:44:35,000 And it's displacing them, it would be 65,000 tons, 4.1 million cubic feet, 1,400 railroad 695 00:44:35,000 --> 00:44:36,000 cars. 696 00:44:36,000 --> 00:44:40,000 And of course, that gets to be a third of a million sheep and so forth. 697 00:44:40,000 --> 00:44:41,000 And you still only have 18,000 species. 698 00:44:41,000 --> 00:44:46,000 So the point is, this estimate is not only very large in the original, but even it's 699 00:44:46,000 --> 00:44:51,000 also vulnerable to being much larger by depending on what the cubit really was. 700 00:44:51,000 --> 00:44:57,000 And as an able Academy graduate, I have to talk a little bit about the marine architecture 701 00:44:57,000 --> 00:44:58,000 here. 702 00:44:58,000 --> 00:45:05,000 The arc, as I say, was 50 feet, using the foot and a half cubit, about 50 feet wide and 703 00:45:05,000 --> 00:45:07,000 30 feet high. 704 00:45:07,000 --> 00:45:11,000 That turns out to be mathematically a very useful ratio. 705 00:45:11,000 --> 00:45:15,000 Because you have the center of gravity in a device like this and you have a center of 706 00:45:15,000 --> 00:45:19,000 buoyancy, depending on the water that it displaces. 707 00:45:19,000 --> 00:45:25,000 And if it tilts over, gravity is pulling down from the center of gravity, the center of 708 00:45:25,000 --> 00:45:28,000 buoyancy is pushing up from the center of buoyancy and you'll notice there will be a 709 00:45:28,000 --> 00:45:33,000 tendency to write this up. 710 00:45:33,000 --> 00:45:40,000 It turns out with these particular ratios, it can sustain an enormous tipping and still 711 00:45:40,000 --> 00:45:42,000 be stable. 712 00:45:42,000 --> 00:45:50,000 This has, these ratios have a very, very attractive stability, hydrologically fuel. 713 00:45:50,000 --> 00:45:55,000 And so this is not some primitive contrivance here. 714 00:45:55,000 --> 00:45:58,000 There's some very subtle engineering behind this. 715 00:45:58,000 --> 00:46:03,000 Well, the flight had rained for 40 days, but that's not a count for all the water. 716 00:46:03,000 --> 00:46:05,000 See it wasn't just rain. 717 00:46:05,000 --> 00:46:11,000 The fountains of the deep were opened up and these waters prevailed for 150 days. 718 00:46:11,000 --> 00:46:12,000 It rained only for 40 days. 719 00:46:12,000 --> 00:46:15,000 The waters prevailed for 150 days. 720 00:46:15,000 --> 00:46:24,000 They're in the ark for 371 days, five months floating, seven months waiting on this mountain. 721 00:46:24,000 --> 00:46:28,000 Now it's interesting again, if you go through the ancient traditions, you discover there 722 00:46:28,000 --> 00:46:34,000 are traditions of a flood, a global flood, disastrous flood, in virtually all the ancient 723 00:46:34,000 --> 00:46:35,000 traditions. 724 00:46:35,000 --> 00:46:38,000 Many of them are quite fanciful. 725 00:46:38,000 --> 00:46:43,000 Many of them, most of them in fact, contain elements that are consistent with the biblical 726 00:46:43,000 --> 00:46:44,000 account. 727 00:46:44,000 --> 00:46:49,000 Egyptian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Hindu, Chinese, the Druids, the Polynesians, Mexicans, 728 00:46:49,000 --> 00:46:53,000 Peruvians, American Indians again, and in Greenland, they all have very colorful, very 729 00:46:53,000 --> 00:46:55,000 interesting flood traditions. 730 00:46:55,000 --> 00:46:57,000 Now the question is, was it universal or local? 731 00:46:57,000 --> 00:47:02,000 There are some people that try to indicate, well this was just a local flood. 732 00:47:02,000 --> 00:47:05,000 If it's just a local flood, God did not keep his promises. 733 00:47:05,000 --> 00:47:11,000 The every living thing was destroyed, the scripture says, all high mountains were under 734 00:47:11,000 --> 00:47:12,000 the entire heavens were covered. 735 00:47:12,000 --> 00:47:14,000 You say, Jesus, some mountains are a lot higher. 736 00:47:14,000 --> 00:47:16,000 Yes, they may have been disrupted since. 737 00:47:16,000 --> 00:47:18,000 That's another issue. 738 00:47:18,000 --> 00:47:25,000 And the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat, but God then promises Noah that he'll never 739 00:47:25,000 --> 00:47:27,000 do that again. 740 00:47:27,000 --> 00:47:31,000 Now if that was a local flood, there had been lots of local floods, which means God didn't 741 00:47:31,000 --> 00:47:33,000 keep his promise. 742 00:47:33,000 --> 00:47:38,000 If that was a universal global flood, that God said, I'll never do that again. 743 00:47:38,000 --> 00:47:42,000 Peter warns us to watch the small print, because the next time he'll do it, he'll do it with 744 00:47:42,000 --> 00:47:43,000 fire, not water. 745 00:47:43,000 --> 00:47:45,000 That's his point. 746 00:47:45,000 --> 00:47:48,000 Now some questions here. 747 00:47:48,000 --> 00:47:53,000 We know that dinosaurs apparently were quickly drowned and buried. 748 00:47:53,000 --> 00:47:54,000 Is that possible? 749 00:47:54,000 --> 00:48:00,000 We believe there were some dinosaurs on the ark, probably babies I assume, because we find 750 00:48:00,000 --> 00:48:03,000 dinosaurs talked about in the book of Job. 751 00:48:03,000 --> 00:48:09,000 And we find that mammoths were quickly drowned in North America and quick frozen in Siberia. 752 00:48:09,000 --> 00:48:11,000 These are mysteries. 753 00:48:11,000 --> 00:48:14,000 That ones in Siberia where they're frozen, they still have food in their digestive tract. 754 00:48:14,000 --> 00:48:16,000 They can analyze their diets. 755 00:48:16,000 --> 00:48:21,000 But the main thing is they died suddenly, very quickly. 756 00:48:21,000 --> 00:48:27,000 And the petrified forests are found 100 miles from the south pole by Admiral Byrd, petrified 757 00:48:27,000 --> 00:48:29,000 forest in the south pole, really. 758 00:48:29,000 --> 00:48:31,000 See, it was a universal climate at one time. 759 00:48:31,000 --> 00:48:35,000 Land animals found fossilized in locations below sea level. 760 00:48:35,000 --> 00:48:37,000 Now, very frankly, you have fossils. 761 00:48:37,000 --> 00:48:46,000 You talk a little bit about that, but the fossils imply pressure and the absence of decay is 762 00:48:46,000 --> 00:48:48,000 also an indication of shortness time. 763 00:48:48,000 --> 00:48:51,000 Sea animals are found fossilized at high elevations. 764 00:48:51,000 --> 00:48:57,000 You go to very high mountains and find seashells and so on. 765 00:48:57,000 --> 00:49:01,000 The key thing about fossils, you understand, fossils are dead. 766 00:49:01,000 --> 00:49:03,000 And that may sound silly to say, but realize it. 767 00:49:03,000 --> 00:49:06,000 That means they are after Adam, after Adam. 768 00:49:06,000 --> 00:49:10,000 And there's no decay which implies a sudden, quick change. 769 00:49:10,000 --> 00:49:12,000 And the dating depends on circular reasoning. 770 00:49:12,000 --> 00:49:16,000 You see, we found a 10 million year old fossil here. 771 00:49:16,000 --> 00:49:17,000 Really? 772 00:49:17,000 --> 00:49:18,000 How do you know it's 10 million year olds? 773 00:49:18,000 --> 00:49:21,000 Well, it's because it's in the layer that represents 10 million years. 774 00:49:21,000 --> 00:49:22,000 Oh, really? 775 00:49:22,000 --> 00:49:23,000 How do you know that layer was 10 million years? 776 00:49:23,000 --> 00:49:26,000 Well, because there's 10 million old fossils there. 777 00:49:26,000 --> 00:49:27,000 You see the circular reasoning? 778 00:49:27,000 --> 00:49:29,000 You think I make facetious. 779 00:49:29,000 --> 00:49:31,000 Watch the reasoning in your textbooks. 780 00:49:31,000 --> 00:49:34,000 You'll discover that they date the fossils by the layer and they date the layer by the 781 00:49:34,000 --> 00:49:35,000 fossils. 782 00:49:35,000 --> 00:49:41,000 It's all circular reasoning, very, and based on all kinds of attackable premises. 783 00:49:41,000 --> 00:49:42,000 And why are there no fossils formed today? 784 00:49:42,000 --> 00:49:46,000 Something dies or goes down in the decays and so forth. 785 00:49:46,000 --> 00:49:47,000 Well, we could go into that. 786 00:49:47,000 --> 00:49:52,000 There is a theory about the flood that has to do with the canopy. 787 00:49:52,000 --> 00:49:56,000 And the fact that there was, the theory is that there was an atmospheric water shield 788 00:49:56,000 --> 00:49:58,000 that protected the earth from cosmic radiation. 789 00:49:58,000 --> 00:50:02,000 And this may attribute, this may be one of the explanations to the long lifetimes. 790 00:50:02,000 --> 00:50:06,000 Before the flood, we have these extended lifetimes prior to the flood. 791 00:50:06,000 --> 00:50:13,000 And the waterfalls, it complements the subterranean waters that are unleashed in chapter 7. 792 00:50:13,000 --> 00:50:17,000 And also, we understand from chapter 10 of Genesis, this continental drift occurred from 793 00:50:17,000 --> 00:50:19,000 the fractured land masses. 794 00:50:19,000 --> 00:50:23,000 Now if you're interested in this area, I encourage you to look at the books by the Institute 795 00:50:23,000 --> 00:50:26,000 of Creation Research, particularly Henry Morris and John Ritkin's book called The 796 00:50:26,000 --> 00:50:27,000 Genesis Record. 797 00:50:27,000 --> 00:50:31,000 And they get into this and you get into the whole canopy theory and it has its proponents. 798 00:50:31,000 --> 00:50:33,000 There are many scientists who believe this is correct. 799 00:50:33,000 --> 00:50:36,000 There are other scientists that have a slightly different view. 800 00:50:36,000 --> 00:50:38,000 There are a lot of geological mysteries, however. 801 00:50:38,000 --> 00:50:40,000 The Grand Canyon origin is something worth studying. 802 00:50:40,000 --> 00:50:43,000 That alone will certify all of this if you want to get into it. 803 00:50:43,000 --> 00:50:46,000 The fact there's the mid-oceanic mountain ranges have to deal with this. 804 00:50:46,000 --> 00:50:50,000 The submarine canyons involved in the earth. 805 00:50:50,000 --> 00:50:56,000 The submarine variations on the ocean floor, coal and oil formations, frozen mammoths, 806 00:50:56,000 --> 00:51:03,000 all of these are areas of study that you'll discover all argue for support of a recent 807 00:51:03,000 --> 00:51:04,000 global flood. 808 00:51:04,000 --> 00:51:09,000 Metamorph, there are certain rock changes that are worth studying and the fossil grade. 809 00:51:09,000 --> 00:51:15,000 All these are geological mysteries that are explained by a universal flood. 810 00:51:15,000 --> 00:51:17,000 And the jigsaw fit into the continents. 811 00:51:17,000 --> 00:51:19,000 There's another view called the hydro plates. 812 00:51:19,000 --> 00:51:21,000 Both of these are true to some extent. 813 00:51:21,000 --> 00:51:26,000 Hydro plate theory points out that the continents are and work interconnected. 814 00:51:26,000 --> 00:51:29,000 There's subterranean water underneath them. 815 00:51:29,000 --> 00:51:31,000 With increasing pressures, there's buckling that takes place. 816 00:51:31,000 --> 00:51:34,000 It's horizontal buckling that explains most of this. 817 00:51:34,000 --> 00:51:38,000 And if you're interested in this area, I encourage you to investigate the ministry of Walt Brown 818 00:51:38,000 --> 00:51:40,000 in the center for scientific creation, Phoenix, Arizona. 819 00:51:40,000 --> 00:51:45,000 It's got marvelous materials on this and the whole creation area. 820 00:51:45,000 --> 00:51:51,000 You're pointing out that the earth has had a cracking and a breaking and these things 821 00:51:51,000 --> 00:51:52,000 all fit. 822 00:51:52,000 --> 00:51:59,000 There is a great deal of technical background in their material that you can get into. 823 00:51:59,000 --> 00:52:00,000 But let's get back to the flood. 824 00:52:00,000 --> 00:52:01,000 It rained for 40 days. 825 00:52:01,000 --> 00:52:02,000 Again, not just rain. 826 00:52:02,000 --> 00:52:03,000 There were fountains of the deep. 827 00:52:03,000 --> 00:52:04,000 Water's prevailed for 150 days. 828 00:52:04,000 --> 00:52:07,000 They're in the ark for 377 days. 829 00:52:07,000 --> 00:52:10,000 Five months floating, seven and a half months on the mountain. 830 00:52:10,000 --> 00:52:12,000 Now some perspectives are all. 831 00:52:12,000 --> 00:52:14,000 There's only one ark. 832 00:52:14,000 --> 00:52:17,000 There's only one way to be saved in that old world. 833 00:52:17,000 --> 00:52:20,000 There was only one door in the ark. 834 00:52:20,000 --> 00:52:22,000 When that door was closed, it was closed. 835 00:52:22,000 --> 00:52:23,000 One interesting question. 836 00:52:23,000 --> 00:52:24,000 Who closed the door? 837 00:52:24,000 --> 00:52:25,000 God closed the door. 838 00:52:25,000 --> 00:52:27,000 And I'll leave it to you to think about this. 839 00:52:27,000 --> 00:52:29,000 Could Noah have gotten out if he wanted to? 840 00:52:29,000 --> 00:52:32,000 I personally don't think so. 841 00:52:32,000 --> 00:52:33,000 There's no births or deaths. 842 00:52:33,000 --> 00:52:37,000 Everybody on the ark was preserved and saved. 843 00:52:37,000 --> 00:52:46,000 The fact that there's no births or deaths suggest that there's some kind of biological 844 00:52:46,000 --> 00:52:51,000 piece or hibernation or something going on. 845 00:52:51,000 --> 00:52:58,000 Now all your theological speculations certainly would end when that door was shut. 846 00:52:58,000 --> 00:53:01,000 And the people outside could argue all they like. 847 00:53:01,000 --> 00:53:03,000 They were not saved. 848 00:53:03,000 --> 00:53:08,000 There are only three groups of people that are dealt with in the flood of Noah. 849 00:53:08,000 --> 00:53:10,000 Those that perished in the flood, of course. 850 00:53:10,000 --> 00:53:13,000 Most of them were all but nine people. 851 00:53:13,000 --> 00:53:18,000 There were those that were preserved through the flood, the eight that were in the ark. 852 00:53:18,000 --> 00:53:22,000 And there were those that were removed prior to the flood. 853 00:53:22,000 --> 00:53:27,000 And I suspect that there are some lessons here in terms of how God deals with things. 854 00:53:27,000 --> 00:53:31,000 I think there'll be all three groups of people that are going to be dealt with prophetically 855 00:53:31,000 --> 00:53:33,000 as we get into the prophetic word. 856 00:53:33,000 --> 00:53:35,000 There'll be those that may move prior. 857 00:53:35,000 --> 00:53:39,000 There are those that will be preserved through the judgments that are coming. 858 00:53:39,000 --> 00:53:44,000 And as I said, other flood traditions all through the ancient groups, Egyptian, Babylonian, 859 00:53:44,000 --> 00:53:47,000 Persian, Greek, so forth. 860 00:53:47,000 --> 00:53:49,000 Now you can get through it carefully. 861 00:53:49,000 --> 00:53:52,000 You'll find some people quibble about the record. 862 00:53:52,000 --> 00:53:54,000 If you read the record carefully, you'll find it all fits. 863 00:53:54,000 --> 00:53:56,000 That's not only true here, it's true in general. 864 00:53:56,000 --> 00:54:01,000 Many places you'll find some critics say, well, here it says this and here it says that 865 00:54:01,000 --> 00:54:02,000 and they don't really seem to agree. 866 00:54:02,000 --> 00:54:07,000 Whenever you find that, rejoice because behind that will be a discovery. 867 00:54:07,000 --> 00:54:11,000 The Lord always rewards the diligent. 868 00:54:11,000 --> 00:54:16,000 But getting to this that we have Noah enter the ark at the 10th day of the second month, 869 00:54:16,000 --> 00:54:18,000 seven days later the rain begins. 870 00:54:18,000 --> 00:54:26,000 And then we have 40 days later the heavy rains stop and 110 days later the waters recede. 871 00:54:26,000 --> 00:54:29,000 The arks now on Mount Ararat. 872 00:54:29,000 --> 00:54:33,000 74 days later the mountain tops are starting to become visible. 873 00:54:33,000 --> 00:54:36,000 40 days later the raven is sent which can survive on its own. 874 00:54:36,000 --> 00:54:40,000 Then the dove is sent, dove in a one is sent and returns, dove in a two is sent and returns 875 00:54:40,000 --> 00:54:43,000 to leave and then dove in a number three is sent and does not return which tells them 876 00:54:43,000 --> 00:54:46,000 that it's safe now to leave the ark. 877 00:54:46,000 --> 00:54:52,000 And so 22 days later the water recedes and Noah saw a dry land and when the land completely 878 00:54:52,000 --> 00:54:54,000 dry they exit the ark. 879 00:54:55,000 --> 00:55:00,000 That's the chronology you can study it more carefully if you want to get into the details. 880 00:55:00,000 --> 00:55:07,000 But basically it's seven days till the, from the seven days there's 150 days it rests on 881 00:55:07,000 --> 00:55:09,000 Mount Ararat, 163 days they saw dry land. 882 00:55:09,000 --> 00:55:13,000 Anyway the total of 377 days for you want to get into that. 883 00:55:13,000 --> 00:55:16,000 But this is another interesting thing, this is something we're going to talk a lot about 884 00:55:16,000 --> 00:55:17,000 as we go. 885 00:55:17,000 --> 00:55:22,000 The ark rested in the seventh month on the 17th day of the month on the mountains of Ararat. 886 00:55:22,000 --> 00:55:24,000 And I want you to notice the word mountains there is plural. 887 00:55:24,000 --> 00:55:27,000 It turns out to be important because there's as many people, there's as much tradition 888 00:55:27,000 --> 00:55:30,000 that's ignored that. 889 00:55:30,000 --> 00:55:33,000 Why do the Holy Spirit want you to know this very day? 890 00:55:33,000 --> 00:55:36,000 See if you're a well adjusted person you're reading your Bible it says the ark rested 891 00:55:36,000 --> 00:55:40,000 in the seventh month on the 17th day of the month on the mountains of Ararat. 892 00:55:40,000 --> 00:55:42,000 You say fine, you read on. 893 00:55:42,000 --> 00:55:46,000 But if you've been to one of my Bible studies you are no longer a normal well adjusted reader 894 00:55:46,000 --> 00:55:50,000 because you'll remember that I said everything in here is by design, everything in here 895 00:55:50,000 --> 00:55:52,000 is deliberate, everything here is a result of the Holy Spirit. 896 00:55:52,000 --> 00:55:56,000 Why do the Holy Spirit want you to know that the ark rested in the seventh month of 897 00:55:56,000 --> 00:55:59,000 the 17th day of the month of the mountains of Ararat? 898 00:55:59,000 --> 00:56:06,000 Well you need to understand first of all there are two calendars in the Jewish community. 899 00:56:06,000 --> 00:56:10,000 The civil calendar is the Genesis calendar. 900 00:56:10,000 --> 00:56:14,000 The year starts in the first of Tishri which is in the fall. 901 00:56:14,000 --> 00:56:18,000 It's called Rosh Hashanah the head of the year, the new year. 902 00:56:18,000 --> 00:56:21,000 The Jewish new year is in the fall. 903 00:56:21,000 --> 00:56:26,000 But they have a religious calendar where it starts in Nizan which is in the spring because 904 00:56:26,000 --> 00:56:31,000 in Exodus when God sets up the Passover He tells Moses among other things this month, 905 00:56:31,000 --> 00:56:35,000 the month of Nizan will shall be unto you the beginning of months. 906 00:56:35,000 --> 00:56:37,000 It shall be the first month of the year to you. 907 00:56:37,000 --> 00:56:43,000 So because of that the religious year starts in the spring, the month in which Passover 908 00:56:43,000 --> 00:56:46,000 falls, the month of Nizan. 909 00:56:47,000 --> 00:56:51,000 The old calendar, Tishri is the first month, Nizan is the seventh. 910 00:56:51,000 --> 00:56:55,000 But from the Exodus on the religious calendar starts in Nizan, it's the first month and 911 00:56:55,000 --> 00:56:58,000 it turns out the Tishri becomes the seventh month. 912 00:56:58,000 --> 00:57:01,000 Okay the new beginnings. 913 00:57:01,000 --> 00:57:04,000 Jesus Christ was crucified on the 4th of the 4th of Nizan. 914 00:57:04,000 --> 00:57:05,000 How long was he in the grave? 915 00:57:05,000 --> 00:57:07,000 Three days. 916 00:57:07,000 --> 00:57:11,000 The resurrection then took place on the 17th of Nizan, the seventh month on the Genesis 917 00:57:11,000 --> 00:57:13,000 calendar. 918 00:57:13,000 --> 00:57:20,000 The God's new beginning on the planet earth was on the anniversary in anticipation of 919 00:57:20,000 --> 00:57:22,000 our new beginning in Jesus Christ. 920 00:57:22,000 --> 00:57:24,000 And I think that's very deliberate. 921 00:57:24,000 --> 00:57:29,000 I think it evidences that God enjoys dealing in precise patterns. 922 00:57:29,000 --> 00:57:33,000 I never use the word approximate and God in the same sentence. 923 00:57:33,000 --> 00:57:40,000 But it fascinates me to see a pattern set down in Genesis fulfilled in the Gospels. 924 00:57:40,000 --> 00:57:44,000 So be sensitive to that because there's many of these throughout the Scripture. 925 00:57:44,000 --> 00:57:46,000 The ark rested in the seventh month, on the 17th day of the month, on the mountains of 926 00:57:46,000 --> 00:57:48,000 Ararat. 927 00:57:48,000 --> 00:57:51,000 So Noah's new beginning on the planet earth on the anniversary anticipation of our new 928 00:57:51,000 --> 00:57:52,000 beginning in Christ. 929 00:57:52,000 --> 00:57:53,000 Okay. 930 00:57:53,000 --> 00:57:58,000 Now Ararat in Turkey, which many people think is the Mount Ararat, is a single mountain. 931 00:57:58,000 --> 00:58:02,000 There's not a lot of mountains around it, which makes it suspect. 932 00:58:02,000 --> 00:58:04,000 But let's move on here. 933 00:58:04,000 --> 00:58:09,000 In Genesis chapter 11 we're going to discover the whole earth was of one language and one 934 00:58:09,000 --> 00:58:14,000 speech, basically, Paleo-Hebrew, ancient Hebrew. 935 00:58:14,000 --> 00:58:21,000 And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east that they found a plane in the land 936 00:58:21,000 --> 00:58:24,000 of Shinar and they dwelt there. 937 00:58:24,000 --> 00:58:27,000 That's the first couple of verses of Genesis, chapter 11. 938 00:58:27,000 --> 00:58:33,000 Well if you take a look at a map, I've marked on the map in the left there, there's a place 939 00:58:33,000 --> 00:58:38,000 called Mount Ararat in Turkey, a traditional Mount Ararat. 940 00:58:38,000 --> 00:58:42,000 And you have Bab-Bell, or what later becomes Babylon, south of it. 941 00:58:42,000 --> 00:58:47,000 I might point out to you that Mount Ararat is not only north of Babel, slightly west, 942 00:58:47,000 --> 00:58:52,000 Mount Ararat in Turkey is a site that was labeled by Marco Polo in the 14th or 15th 943 00:58:52,000 --> 00:58:53,000 century. 944 00:58:53,000 --> 00:58:55,000 It's a traditional site. 945 00:58:55,000 --> 00:59:01,000 And there are many people that claim to have seen the ark up there, that have found pieces 946 00:59:01,000 --> 00:59:03,000 of wood and that sort of thing. 947 00:59:03,000 --> 00:59:07,000 And so far the people I know that have tried to check that out get quite frustrated because 948 00:59:07,000 --> 00:59:12,000 it's all legend, all myth, it defies confirmation. 949 00:59:12,000 --> 00:59:15,000 But let's stay with the scripture. 950 00:59:15,000 --> 00:59:20,000 It says, you see Mount Ararat is north and slightly west of Babel. 951 00:59:20,000 --> 00:59:26,000 Genesis 11.2 says they came from the east to Shinar, which means if I was looking for 952 00:59:26,000 --> 00:59:29,000 the Noah's Ark, I would look east of Babel. 953 00:59:29,000 --> 00:59:31,000 That's where they came from. 954 00:59:31,000 --> 00:59:37,000 And east of here, there's a whole range of extremely high mountains. 955 00:59:37,000 --> 00:59:42,000 And I anticipate, I won't get into conjectures here other than to say I anticipate that it's 956 00:59:42,000 --> 00:59:46,000 going to be found and I think when it is found it's going to be found in Iran, in the high 957 00:59:46,000 --> 00:59:48,000 mountains of Iran. 958 00:59:48,000 --> 00:59:51,000 But let's go back to Genesis 9. 959 00:59:51,000 --> 00:59:52,000 We got a new beginning now. 960 00:59:52,000 --> 00:59:53,000 They're out of the ark. 961 00:59:53,000 --> 00:59:54,000 There's a whole new order. 962 00:59:54,000 --> 00:59:55,000 They're not vegetarians anymore. 963 00:59:55,000 --> 01:00:00,000 God instructs them to use, to eat animals and so forth. 964 01:00:00,000 --> 01:00:05,000 Capital punishment is ordained and the human government is established. 965 01:00:05,000 --> 01:00:08,000 There's a whole, you can study that quite carefully. 966 01:00:08,000 --> 01:00:11,000 Sinful man has been wiped out by the flood, but not sin. 967 01:00:11,000 --> 01:00:15,000 Man is still sinful and Noah has no exception. 968 01:00:15,000 --> 01:00:19,000 He has vineyard and there's some things that happen. 969 01:00:19,000 --> 01:00:20,000 But there's a prophecy. 970 01:00:20,000 --> 01:00:25,000 May God enlarge J. 5th and may he dwell in the tents of Shem and may Canaan be his servant. 971 01:00:25,000 --> 01:00:29,000 So Ham, Shem and Japheth, there's prophecies here we'll pick up when we get into chapter 972 01:00:29,000 --> 01:00:31,000 11. 973 01:00:31,000 --> 01:00:34,000 Something else, back when we talked about the creation, we talked about an entropy profile 974 01:00:34,000 --> 01:00:42,000 of the universe, how order was inserted in the universe in the successive steps and 975 01:00:42,000 --> 01:00:43,000 then rest. 976 01:00:43,000 --> 01:00:51,000 We recognize that the fall of man, and God's curse, that the order was disrupted, that entropy 977 01:00:51,000 --> 01:00:52,000 was increased. 978 01:00:52,000 --> 01:00:56,000 Entropy increases as you go down on this chart. 979 01:00:56,000 --> 01:01:01,000 So the fall of man results in a decay, a destruction of the universe. 980 01:01:01,000 --> 01:01:04,000 The flood also, the flood was more than just a lot of water. 981 01:01:04,000 --> 01:01:09,000 We know a great deal of changes. 982 01:01:09,000 --> 01:01:15,000 We don't know anything about the creation prior to the fall and we only have some conjectures 983 01:01:15,000 --> 01:01:18,000 about the creation prior to the flood. 984 01:01:18,000 --> 01:01:23,000 And the history as we know it really is certainly since the fall of man, but probably history 985 01:01:23,000 --> 01:01:26,000 as we know it in other terms since the flood. 986 01:01:26,000 --> 01:01:29,000 The post-flood changes, we know the thermal blanket that once protected the earth is 987 01:01:29,000 --> 01:01:32,000 gone because the universal climate is no longer there. 988 01:01:32,000 --> 01:01:34,000 It's the end of the universal climate. 989 01:01:34,000 --> 01:01:38,000 We find these tropical creatures embedded in the ice near the poles and we realize that 990 01:01:38,000 --> 01:01:44,000 the earth had a very different ecological situation in those days. 991 01:01:44,000 --> 01:01:47,000 Atmospheric pressure apparently reduced 50 percent because we know that tetheredactyls 992 01:01:47,000 --> 01:01:52,000 couldn't fly unless we had at least two atmospheres of atmospheric pressure. 993 01:01:52,000 --> 01:01:57,000 And we also notice that these extended longevity that are recorded start to decline. 994 01:01:57,000 --> 01:02:01,000 So from going from the hundreds of years down, ultimately down to the three score in 995 01:02:01,000 --> 01:02:05,000 ten or the 70 years, that even to this day with all our improvements in medicine still 996 01:02:05,000 --> 01:02:06,000 hover around. 997 01:02:06,000 --> 01:02:09,000 Of course fossils, I said they were dead. 998 01:02:09,000 --> 01:02:11,000 That means they came after Adam. 999 01:02:11,000 --> 01:02:13,000 No decay, sudden quick change. 1000 01:02:13,000 --> 01:02:15,000 Dating as I say, depends on circular reasoning. 1001 01:02:15,000 --> 01:02:19,000 And one other question, why don't we have fossils today? 1002 01:02:19,000 --> 01:02:21,000 Well let's move on to chapter 10. 1003 01:02:21,000 --> 01:02:27,000 Chapter 10 is a discussion of the genealogy of the sons of Noah. 1004 01:02:27,000 --> 01:02:30,000 It's called the Table of Nations. 1005 01:02:30,000 --> 01:02:33,000 And Noah had three sons, Shem Ham and Japheth. 1006 01:02:33,000 --> 01:02:38,000 Japheth had sons and it goes through all these, Gomer, Magog, Medai, Yavon, Tubal, Meshach 1007 01:02:38,000 --> 01:02:39,000 and Tiras. 1008 01:02:39,000 --> 01:02:45,000 And as you study your Bible, you may want to make note of these and try to learn, especially 1009 01:02:45,000 --> 01:02:46,000 the important ones. 1010 01:02:46,000 --> 01:02:53,000 Magog is very, very important to understand when you get to Ezekiel because Magog is the 1011 01:02:53,000 --> 01:02:56,000 forebear of the Scythians which in turns are the forebear of the true Russians. 1012 01:02:56,000 --> 01:03:00,000 And they're very prominent in the prophecy in Ezekiel and you want to watch that. 1013 01:03:00,000 --> 01:03:06,000 Medai, from them came the Medes which of course we call today the Kurds and they're going 1014 01:03:06,000 --> 01:03:09,000 to be prominent in our current news broadcast too. 1015 01:03:09,000 --> 01:03:15,000 As well, Tubal and Meshach were principal ingredients to the area that we know as Turkey. 1016 01:03:15,000 --> 01:03:16,000 So that's it. 1017 01:03:16,000 --> 01:03:21,000 Now Ham is the other, he has Kush, Miseron put and Canaan. 1018 01:03:21,000 --> 01:03:26,000 When you think of Kush, he settled south of the Second Cataract of the Nile. 1019 01:03:26,000 --> 01:03:29,000 It tends to be idiomatic of black Africa. 1020 01:03:29,000 --> 01:03:31,000 Miserim is a different guy and that's Egypt. 1021 01:03:31,000 --> 01:03:35,000 Miserim is the biblical term for ancient Egypt. 1022 01:03:35,000 --> 01:03:38,000 And put is North Africa which is quite distinct from Kush. 1023 01:03:38,000 --> 01:03:42,000 In North Africans or you have another, so you've got Kush, Miserim and Pete, all Hamites 1024 01:03:42,000 --> 01:03:45,000 but of different backgrounds and of course Canaan. 1025 01:03:45,000 --> 01:03:50,000 And it's interesting that all Israel has to do to find out who the enemies are is to take 1026 01:03:50,000 --> 01:03:51,000 a look at the genealogies. 1027 01:03:51,000 --> 01:03:52,000 They would be their enemies. 1028 01:03:52,000 --> 01:04:00,000 So the Kushites, the descendants of Kush also descended in, ascendant. 1029 01:04:00,000 --> 01:04:06,000 The Kushites that is the descendants of Kush settled in South Arabia and southern Egypt, 1030 01:04:06,000 --> 01:04:09,000 Sudan and northern Ethiopia. 1031 01:04:09,000 --> 01:04:16,000 And they became mingled with some of the Semitic tribes there and so forth. 1032 01:04:16,000 --> 01:04:18,000 The first Hamite, it's really significant. 1033 01:04:18,000 --> 01:04:22,000 It is of course the Canaanite group. 1034 01:04:22,000 --> 01:04:28,000 The third son of course is Shem with the Ilam, Asher, Arfaxed, Lud and Arram and Shem are 1035 01:04:28,000 --> 01:04:31,000 the ones that were interested in because out of that will come a very prominent one. 1036 01:04:31,000 --> 01:04:33,000 He has Ilam which is Persia. 1037 01:04:33,000 --> 01:04:39,000 It's interesting when Isaiah is called upon to talk about the Persian Empire a hundred 1038 01:04:39,000 --> 01:04:41,000 years before it emerges. 1039 01:04:41,000 --> 01:04:42,000 How does he deal with it? 1040 01:04:42,000 --> 01:04:45,000 He calls it, he speaks of it in terms of the forebear, the Ilam. 1041 01:04:45,000 --> 01:04:48,000 Ilam is what Bible would call it. 1042 01:04:48,000 --> 01:04:52,000 We think of as Persia which is modern Iran and we have others here. 1043 01:04:52,000 --> 01:04:55,000 Arfaxed is very important under Hamasala which in turn has Hebrew from which the word Hebrew 1044 01:04:55,000 --> 01:05:02,000 comes and then we have Pellegh during which the earth is divided and Jaktan and we have 1045 01:05:02,000 --> 01:05:03,000 some others. 1046 01:05:03,000 --> 01:05:12,000 It's from Pellegh that we have ultimately Tara whose son is Abraham and our whole study 1047 01:05:12,000 --> 01:05:17,000 of the second unit of Genesis, the second half of Genesis, chapter 12 to the end is 1048 01:05:17,000 --> 01:05:18,000 our study of Abraham. 1049 01:05:18,000 --> 01:05:24,000 Very very important, one of the most important people in history for a lot of reasons. 1050 01:05:24,000 --> 01:05:33,000 Kind of interesting, there are about 26 mentioned under the under Shem, 30 under Ham and 70 1051 01:05:33,000 --> 01:05:34,000 under Jephth. 1052 01:05:34,000 --> 01:05:39,000 There are 70 nations listed in Genesis 10, the Table of Nations. 1053 01:05:39,000 --> 01:05:46,000 That's interesting because they're going to put in parallel to the 70 of the family of 1054 01:05:46,000 --> 01:05:51,000 Jacob I should say that goes to down to Egypt when we number them. 1055 01:05:51,000 --> 01:05:55,000 And so we have 70 nations from Noah, Ham, Shem and Jephth. 1056 01:05:55,000 --> 01:06:01,000 We'll have 70 families that will enter Egypt and that's interesting that God indicates 1057 01:06:01,000 --> 01:06:07,000 in Deuteronomy 32 that the bounds of both are set, that the boundaries of these nations 1058 01:06:07,000 --> 01:06:10,000 are determined by what God wants to have happen. 1059 01:06:10,000 --> 01:06:15,000 And so there are some discrepancies here. 1060 01:06:15,000 --> 01:06:21,000 In Genesis 10 we have 70 in the Table of Nations and they're mentioned in 66 and 46 1061 01:06:22,000 --> 01:06:28,000 we have a total of 70 that go to Egypt but in one place there's only 66 because there 1062 01:06:28,000 --> 01:06:31,000 are already four down there. 1063 01:06:31,000 --> 01:06:34,000 And so you have the 66 plus the four still gets you 70. 1064 01:06:34,000 --> 01:06:41,000 In Acts 7, 14, Stephen mentions 75 because he's including Joseph's grandsons which the 1065 01:06:41,000 --> 01:06:43,000 Septuagint makes clear. 1066 01:06:43,000 --> 01:06:48,000 But so these discrepancies get resolved but the main issue is to recognize that the scripture 1067 01:06:48,000 --> 01:06:53,000 clearly seems to set a parallelism between the 70 and the Table of Nations and the 70 1068 01:06:53,000 --> 01:06:56,000 that become the nation of Israel itself for what it's worth. 1069 01:06:56,000 --> 01:06:57,000 Okay. 1070 01:06:57,000 --> 01:07:03,000 There is a person that emerges out of Ham that is very important to be aware of. 1071 01:07:03,000 --> 01:07:04,000 That's a guy by the name of Nimrod. 1072 01:07:04,000 --> 01:07:07,000 The first world dictator's name means we rebel. 1073 01:07:07,000 --> 01:07:09,000 He's the first world dictator. 1074 01:07:09,000 --> 01:07:13,000 He found two cities, Babylon and Nineveh, both of which become world capitals in their 1075 01:07:13,000 --> 01:07:14,000 history. 1076 01:07:14,000 --> 01:07:20,000 Babylon will be the capital I believe of his successor in a sense. 1077 01:07:20,000 --> 01:07:24,000 There will be a world dictator that emerges out of Assyria that we call the Antichrist. 1078 01:07:24,000 --> 01:07:28,000 I believe Babylon will be his capital among others. 1079 01:07:28,000 --> 01:07:30,000 But anyway let's get back. 1080 01:07:30,000 --> 01:07:31,000 Take a look at chapter 11. 1081 01:07:31,000 --> 01:07:34,000 There's one language, the language of Hebrew. 1082 01:07:34,000 --> 01:07:39,000 There is a godless confederacy organized by this first world dictator on the plane of 1083 01:07:39,000 --> 01:07:40,000 Shinnar. 1084 01:07:40,000 --> 01:07:41,000 You need to be familiar with that term. 1085 01:07:41,000 --> 01:07:43,000 Shinnar occurs seven times in the Old Testament. 1086 01:07:43,000 --> 01:07:48,000 Always it alludes to the plane in which Babel, the Tar of the Heaven, was built. 1087 01:07:48,000 --> 01:07:53,000 And Babel was originally some kind of astrological temple. 1088 01:07:53,000 --> 01:07:58,000 It's at this place that the Zodiac, as we know it, or the Matsaroth and the Hebrew, was 1089 01:07:58,000 --> 01:08:00,000 corrupted. 1090 01:08:00,000 --> 01:08:05,000 It strangely enough seems to embody a record of God's plan of redemption for mankind if 1091 01:08:05,000 --> 01:08:09,000 you understand the names of the stars and the order of brightness of the twelve constellations 1092 01:08:09,000 --> 01:08:11,000 that link to the twelve tribes. 1093 01:08:11,000 --> 01:08:16,000 But all that gets corrupted at this time, so most of what we know in the field of astronomy 1094 01:08:16,000 --> 01:08:21,000 carries labels from the original Babylonian terms. 1095 01:08:21,000 --> 01:08:26,000 Don't confuse this with astrology, which is an occultic application of those things. 1096 01:08:26,000 --> 01:08:31,000 These labels are still used by astronomers today in a sense a form of geography. 1097 01:08:31,000 --> 01:08:36,000 You should also understand that your whole Bible can be viewed as a tale of two cities. 1098 01:08:36,000 --> 01:08:41,000 The city of Babylon, which is regarded as the city of Man, or the city of Satan, if 1099 01:08:41,000 --> 01:08:44,000 you will, and the city of Jerusalem. 1100 01:08:44,000 --> 01:08:46,000 With all its faults is still considered the city of God. 1101 01:08:46,000 --> 01:08:49,000 In fact, it gets replaced by the New Jerusalem. 1102 01:08:49,000 --> 01:08:54,000 Babylon and Jerusalem from the beginning, climax at the end, where Babylon is destroyed 1103 01:08:54,000 --> 01:08:59,000 in Revelation and the New Jerusalem replaces the one destroyed. 1104 01:08:59,000 --> 01:09:03,000 So we have the Tar of Babel, very, very prominent in ancient history, going to be prominent 1105 01:09:03,000 --> 01:09:05,000 again in prophecy. 1106 01:09:05,000 --> 01:09:09,000 We'll deal with that when we get to the book of Revelation. 1107 01:09:09,000 --> 01:09:12,000 And also Isaiah and Jeremiah will deal with it. 1108 01:09:12,000 --> 01:09:17,000 Okay, so we have now moved to the next unit. 1109 01:09:17,000 --> 01:09:23,000 We finished our survey of the first unit of Genesis, chapters 1 through 11. 1110 01:09:23,000 --> 01:09:26,000 In the next session we'll be picking up chapter 12 to the end of the chapter, the time of 1111 01:09:26,000 --> 01:09:27,000 the patriarchs. 1112 01:09:27,000 --> 01:09:30,000 We'll talk about Abraham, chapters 12 to 20. 1113 01:09:30,000 --> 01:09:37,000 Isaac from 21 to 26, Jacob from 27 to 36, and then the rest of the book, the incredible, 1114 01:09:37,000 --> 01:09:39,000 colorful story of Joseph. 1115 01:09:39,000 --> 01:09:42,000 Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, the commoner called the patriarchs, and we'll take that 1116 01:09:42,000 --> 01:09:43,000 up in the next hour. 103331
