In an old stone house in
the country lives a litter of

Russian blue kittens born
just eight days ago. These three

boys and two girls are
descended from a long

and distinguished
line of Russian royalty.

Regal Russian blues are named
for their shimmering silver blue coats.

The breed's history is quite
mysterious. Legend says Russian

blues descended from the
royal cats of the Russian czars in

the 1800s.

But this litter of five descended
from proud house cat Katya.

It's her third litter, so she's
a pro. And it's a good thing

because their father, Stoly,
isn't exactly the most hands-on

dad. He prefers to curl up
and stay cool in his secret

hiding place alone. While
Katya finds herself in a far more

crowded spot,

the kittens are still learning
their table manners. And

mom knows to grab a nap
when she can. This little guy is

Sputnik. Like the rest of his
brothers and sisters, he still

hasn't opened his eyes and
relies on his nose to guide him.

Rather than fight the
crowd, he looks for a side

route. But some roads are
less traveled for a reason.

Unlike his brother Sputnik,
Cosmo here is happy to take

it easy, though he sometimes
gets a little stepped on.

After the meal, it's time for a weigh-in.

But seven-ounce Sputnik
isn't a fan of the cold, hard

scale. And mom Katya
isn't a fan of crying kittens.

Sputnik's brother Cosmo
is up next. He doesn't like

it either. And Katya's had
enough of this manhandling.

In the coming weeks, Katya's
kittens will have all kinds of

adventures. But for now, the
only place they need to be is

with mom. Not far away, a
different tale is unfolding at

a house which doubles as a
rescue sanctuary for animals in

need. The orphaned or injured
residents are rehabilitated

before they're released back
into the wild. From raccoons to

foxes. Squirrels to skunks.
This wild manor welcomes and

cares for all kinds of critters,
including a guard turkey

who keeps watch over
the front yard. While inside,

it's sent to the German
shepherd who keeps watch.

Cinta is sort of a den mother.
To a very busy den. Since

this is her permanent home,
it's her job to welcome and look

after all of the residents
who pass through.

Today, some tiny new kittens arrive.

This teeny trio was found
with no mom in sight. Since

they're too young to go to a
regular animal shelter, they'll

stay here until they get
a bit bigger. Among this

pile of black kittens is one
little tuxedo named Oreo.

Tuxedos aren't an actual breed.
The name refers to domestic

short-haired cats with a black
and white coat pattern that

looks a lot like formal wear.
It was a tuxedo who inspired

the poet T.S. Eliot to write a
famous book that became a

musical about cats.

Oreo is the smallest of the
bunch, but he's got a pretty big

voice. He's hungry for dinner,
and he's not shy about asking

for it. With no mom to feed them, the
kittens get nutritious formula in a bottle.

Blended and warmed to water.

At this age, most kittens
nurse constantly, so these

little guys get bottle-fed
about six times a day.

Oreo tries to drink every
last drop. But when you're this

tiny, every task is a challenge,
especially when there's no

mom to guide you.

But little Oreo seems to
have landed in good hands.

It's been an exhausting
day, and with a full

tummy, the tiny tuxedo
can finally get some sleep.

A few miles away in the heart
of Suburbia, a very protective

new mom named Freckles
watches over her seven-day-old

kittens.

Freckles is an Ossicact, a
crossbreed of Siamese and

Abyssinians, which unexpectedly
produced speckled kittens.

Ossicacts were first bred in
the 1960s and are named for

their resemblance to ocelot
wildcats. Though they're wild in

appearance, they're 100%
domestic. But that doesn't stop

Freckles from fiercely
guarding her little ones, like a

wildcat would in the jungle.
It's lunchtime for the kittens.

But before Freckles can relax
and feed them, she scopes out

the surroundings to make
sure no danger is lurking.

Freckles' kittens arrived
wearing a variety of coats. While

four have classic chocolate
coats, this little boy named Leo

was born with a rare light-colored
coat known as lavender.

This guy next to him is
Rex, who's got a more typical

chocolate coat. But there's
something extra special about

Rex. He's the first one to open his eyes.

But keeping them open is another matter.

After scoping the perimeter, Mom
finally decides the coast is clear.

The kittens have worked up
quite an appetite. But on the way

to the table, Rex encounters a
squirmy roadblock named Leo.

But Rex isn't a quitter, and
the determined little kitten

soldiers on. And there's a
delicious reward at the end of

this fuzzy squirming obstacle course.

Coming up, Oreo goes on
his first adventure into the big

wide world. And Sputnik
tries to avoid a crash landing.

Over at the rescue house, a
tiny tuxedo kitten has opened

his eyes and is just learning
to walk. Little Oreo is now

the center of kitten attention.
His litter mates have been

placed in another foster
rescue. But he's too tiny to move

on and stays for some extra
TLC, which center the dog seems

happy to deliver. There are
lots of furry creatures here,

but Oreo is on the hunt for
one in particular. A new mother.

Here's a possibility.

Oreo makes his best efforts to say hello.

But the big kid doesn't seem
to want anything to do with

this tiny tag along. There's
that fellow. He's furry and big

enough to be a mother.

But he's not listening at all.

Here's someone who looks
familiar. It's Nellie, a three

week old orphan skunk.
She wears a tuxedo like him.

But doesn't smell quite right.
The search for a new mother

is hard work. And Oreo's
not getting far with these guys.

But when he least expects it,
someone steps up to answer Oreo's call.

Cinta looks after everyone who lives here.
She's awfully big. But she sure is nice.

Maybe Cinta would make a good mom.

She may not be a mother cat,
but when you're a tiny rescue

kitten, it never hurts to
have friends in high places.

Back at the Russian Blue
House, the three week old kittens

have opened their eyes and
discovered their legs. While the

curious bunch looks for
adventure, their hands-off dad,

Stoli, looks for peace and
quiet in his favorite hiding

place.

First task for the kittens? Getting down.

More cautious, Sputnik
prepares for his descent.

But without a clear view below,
it feels like a long way down.

Little brother Flash borrows
his brother's technique. Mom

offers a little encouragement,
but leaves her boys to fend

for themselves.

Luckily, Sputnik sticks around to help.

But he's kind of new at this.

But there's one more
kitten still stuck above.

Little Cosmo is afraid
to take the plunge. And

the timid kitten suddenly
finds himself all alone.

Mom Katiana comes to the
rescue. She knows there are plenty

more adventures in store for
her kittens. And until Cosmo's

brave enough to venture out on his
own, she's happy to keep him by her side.

Since having her litter three
weeks ago, protective mom

Freckles has been watching
over her little ones around the

clock. But at three weeks,
her five kittens are finally old

enough to be left alone. Well,
not all alone. Mom's leaving

them with a trusted young
babysitter. She introduces them to

toys. Though the kittens
aren't sure what to do with them.

Sometimes it's tough
to tell the difference

between their toys and
hers. Or her toys and them.

When playtime's over, the
kittens find a new spot in the

house. It sure smells good
in here. They don't know it, but

they're ready for another first.
A meal that's not from mom.

If only it looked as good as it
smells. So far, the kittens aren't biting.

Finally, Leo, with a rare
lavender coat, steps up

to the plate. But one
sniff is all he gives it.

Maybe the kittens just need some
encouragement. Still no takers.

Finally, Rex, the first kitten
to open his eyes, is also

the first to open his mouth.
And it's pretty good. But don't

expect any compliments to
the chef. Coming up, Flash

explores uncharted terrain
and goes for a wild ride.

At six weeks old, the five
Russian blue kittens are looking

for their next big adventure.
Until now, they've only lived

upstairs.

Flash takes the first steps
toward the world below. Eager

to find out what's there.
Even more eager is his brother

Sputnik, who seeks a faster route.

And it's a hit with the whole gang.

Except for timid Cosmo,
who is once again reluctant to

take the plunge. But this
time, mom's nowhere in sight.

And when he goes to investigate,

the little scaredy cat can't turn back.

Down below, the kittens waste no
time exploring some uncharted territory.

Filled with wonders that
seem to go on forever.

The kittens are so
wrapped up, it takes them

a while to notice there's
someone else here.

It's their dad, Stoli, enjoying a
very peaceful afternoon. Until now.

The kittens have never met
their dad before, but they waste

no time getting comfortable.
So much for secret hiding

places.

Stoli wasn't expecting company,
but he's got plenty of it now.

Now six weeks old, the domestic cats with
the wildcat looks have doubled in size.

Today, they get their first taste of the
wilderness. Or at least the backyard.

This place takes them getting used to.

But before long, the tiny osso
cats find their inner wildcats.

When brothers Leo and
Rex spot a cricket, it's game

on. But there's just one
cricket for two hunters.

Leo sneaks up for the attack,
but a spiderweb throws him

off. Maybe Rex will have
more luck wrangling it. But two

kittens are no match
for this crafty cricket.

Guess they won't be
bringing dinner home tonight.

It's a new day at the rescue
house, and tiny tuxedo Oreo

awakens to an amazing sight.
It's the very thing he's been

looking for, a mother cat.

Her name is Ginger,

and these are her kittens
Chester and Murray.

Oreo watches in awe as
the new family settles in.

Ginger seems like a
wonderful mom. Perhaps

she's got room in her
heart for one more kitten.

Oreo introduces himself, but

Ginger is distracted by
something she's never seen before.

It's Nellie the skunk, and
her lunch smells really good.

Nellie's good at
sharing, but Ginger is not.

Meanwhile, Oreo tries to

treasures were left behind.

Over at the Ossicat's house,
the eight-week-old kittens

are paying a visit to
their favorite babysitter.

There's no shortage of fun
places to explore in her room.

It's truly a magical room, where a
whole other pack of Ossicats seem to live.

But no matter how many
things there are to play with,

brothers Leo and Rex always
seem to have their eyes on the

same prize.

And Leo's not so good
when it comes to sharing.

But they soon set their
eyes on a new prize.

There are some things no kitten can resist.

The best part is that there's
plenty to go around, so

the only thing the kittens
have to share is the fun.

At the animal rescue home,
tiny tuxedo Oreo is enjoying

a lazy afternoon with a new
house resident who's a little

closer to his size. When
Danmother Cinta makes her rounds,

Oreo is happy to see her.
But not everyone knows that

Cinta's just doing her job.
The frightened kitten's cry

attracts Ginger, who steps in
to assure the newcomer that

everything's okay.

Oreo's impressed. From the
moment he opened his eyes, Oreo's

been on the hunt for a mother,
and he's determined to win

Ginger over.

The tiny kitten could get
used to having a mom around.

If only he could get her attention.

But her attention is
hard to get, especially

since Ginger has her
own kids to check on.

But Oreo's not easily discouraged.

It seems mom cat Ginger
has disappeared again.

But Oreo does spot some familiar faces.
Ginger's kittens, Chester and Murray.

The duo welcomes Oreo
to their nest with open arms.

Nellie the skunk is hoping
to join in the cuddle time, too.

But she doesn't get quite as
warm a welcome. Guess it's

kittens only at this party.

Coming up, Oreo has a creative
way to finally get Ginger's attention.

At nine weeks old, the Ocicat
kittens have boundless energy.

And keeping track of them
gets pretty exhausting for their

mom, Freckles.

Perhaps the playroom is a
better spot for them than the

stairs. While the kittens have
mastered the art of playing,

Leo has not quite
mastered the art of sharing.

And though there are
plenty of toys to go around,

Leo seems to think
they all belong to him.

His brother Rex is growing
tired of all the toy hogging and

is determined to teach him a lesson.

Leo gets the message loud and clear.

Over at the rescue house,
Oreo is enjoying all the attention

he's getting from his foster
brothers, Chester and Murray.

Oreo loves playing with the big kids.

But the best thing about Chester
and Murray is that wherever

they are, their mom Ginger is
close by. And being an orphan,

Oreo's been looking for a
new mother. But try as he might,

he just can't get Ginger
to notice him. So he invites

himself to lunch. Oreo
shows off his best behavior.

But no matter how good
the stuff in the dish is,

there's nothing quite like
what a mother can deliver.

And just like that, Ginger
takes Oreo into the family.

It's been quite a big day
for the tiny kitten. Now with a

full tummy, a new mom and
two brothers beside him, Oreo no

longer has to dream about having a family.

The adventurous Russian blues
have explored most every inch

of the stone house in the
country. And at ten weeks old,

there's almost no place they can't go.

Almost. Mom Katiana shows
them the Kitty Holy Grail, a

wooden beam 15 feet off the
floor. The curious kittens are

eager to join her. If only
they could figure out how.

Bold explorers Sputnik and
Flash scope out the path.

But even for the bravest
kittens, getting to the top is a

tall order. Looks like there
are some spots that are still

out of reach. Until a very
unexpected member of the litter

takes a leaf of faith. Timid
Cosmo reaches new heights.

Perhaps he's not so timid anymore.

Just 12 weeks ago, the kittens
came into the world, a pack

of helpless newborns. But with
mom's guidance, a few helping

hands, and a little
brotherly love, Freckles

kittens have grown
into graceful young cats.

And today begins their biggest
adventure yet, meeting their new families.
