their right of self-determination that

they had rebelled against the crown to

secure.

He may be a revered figure in America

now, but in 1865,

he had more enemies than friends.

People demand a complex explanation for

the murder of such a man, hence the

conspiracy theories.

The first thing you need to know is that

John Wils Booth was not a murderer. He

was a southern patriot. When his country

was invaded, he acted in her defense.

>> But by the time he acted, his country no

I remember him for the man he was. He

was a gentle man, a man of honor. The

same cannot be said of the conspirators

power. The South grew the cotton that

your country needed. You had the power

the south needed and the northern

investors had the money to pay for it.

through a network of Confederate spies

to cotton investors in England. They

used the money to bribe members of

parliament to support diplomatic

recognition of the Confederacy. But it

didn't work. When the South was on the

verge of defeat and the investors were

on the verge of bankruptcy, the

conspirators conceived a new final

mission and they chose John Wils Booth

to perform it.
